Why is everything made in Blender that attempts to look competitive with current gen quality, always look like a cheap rip off? Those slightly overly-exaggerated facial proportions, the 'i'm clearly trying too hard' eye shape. The skin shader that just barely misses the realism check. The material on the jacket is the worst offender; looks like something from a decade ago.
Once again Blender proves that despite their best efforts they will never be competitive. I'd actually prefer to move to freeware like Blender, but it's hard to want to use inferior shitware.

As a person who started with blender with some blendtuts by oliver and never even saw any donut/anvil tutorial, I can honestly tell everyone, that this whole donut meme is only relevant among the lowest in this community - people, who deal with mainstream bullshit pathetic enough to become a meme instead of actually developing their skills.

Therefore everyone who participates in the whole donut/anvil/cup/whatever tutorial debates isn't just worth listening to.

Okay, I know we're all having some fun trolling each other here, but at least try making a smart response. If Blender is godlike at anything, that would be exactly the thing you mentioned - extremely fast and comfortable move/rotate/scale/extrude/inset/bevel operations with as little key strokes as possible. Nothing can come close to it.

Is there any other software which can be customized in a way that you can move and scale on different axis just by choosing the x/y/z and moving your mouse?

Call me retarded, but as much as I hated that feature the first time I opened Blender, now I can't live without it. Just think about how many times you have to click on that little gizmo in order to transform your object, removing that workload from my fingers is too good and I can work more without feeling the hurt.

I heard Modo has crazy customization options so I'm interested if it can at least be changed to work in some other way where I don't have to constantly click on the right axis to move something every 2 seconds. Please give me a legit answer if you know it, I need it so bad if possible.

You can be honest with us. Does Adobe suck ass in your opinion? Did Photoshop and/or AE murder your dad?
>>
>>606429
i don't understand why you think like that.

if people agree that krita is close enough or equal to SAIpainttool then why would it be so far fetched that blender is close to maya?
in the case of GIMP i understand. that's because the developers intentionally fucked their own software to the point where its a mess. but if they will just correct some stuff here and there, its still a worthy competitor to photoshop.
so lets say that autodesk employees are pro's that get paid very well for their work.
well, what is the difference if blender programmer get paid too? just because the software is free doesn't mean that they work on it for free, and it doesn't mean that the people that work there are amateur's. they get accepted to BF just like every company
>>

And BTW I used to work for a printed publication and altough I've tried, the situation there is worse for open source software than it is for 3D. Long story short the main reason is offset printers require patented color correction methods that only commercial software has and *can* have.
Krita and Gimp are irrelevant and are always going to be irrelevant for that reason. Blender is likewise always going to be irrelevant. And Blender is also really bad and unpleasant software.

this is the entirety of the blender mindset, its about memorizing trivia rather than acquiring a solid knowledge of a interfaces foundation and how to use it as a tool. un-intuitive scattered interface excused only by people who have fully bought into the blender delusion because they are either to cowardly or stupid to obtain proper software. Its no wonder that most of the stuff that comes out of blender is the most bland generic industry groveling crap that fills the portfolios of hundreds of amateur portfolios. it comes from the baby mindset of coddled by education through hand holding tutorials and blender orthodoxy that neither requires nor allows abstract thinking, creativity or experimentation within.

Stopped reading after that. "Trivia" is a knowledge of hotkeys? Your statement doesn't even make any sense. Just because you know hotkeys means you don't actually know how to use the tool, or how to use the interface (why would you, at that point, anyway?) Not defending Blender, but this is pathetic. To each his own, I guess. I like hotkeys, and prefer having a keyboard close (it helps I don’t need to look at it to type). My preference for hotkey-based UIs is what leads me to chose Emacs over Atom, for example, as well as Blender over Maya, where functionality is the same for what I’m trying to accomplish.

The keyword is “preference”. We shouldn’t compare software on such basis. It is futile; there will never be broad agreement, because there can’t be.

You just didn't take the time to learn zbrush. It's way above DonutMaker (and everything else) when it comes to sculpting.

You just didn’t take the time to learn DonutMaker™. It’s way above Maya (and everything else, with maybe the exception of Modo) when it comes to modeling.

>explain, please
just sheer observation m8
it's literally NOT Pixar quality in all its aspects (modeling, surfacing, rendering, hair, etc.)

Nice explanation m8. I see you have a deep knowledge of the subject.

How do I make a rig like this in Blender?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfL8VD7vGGs&hd=1

Specifically the mouth, are there any tutorials that explain how this is done? Is it all morph targets?

Or, are there some recommended tutorials for rigging in general?

Feels like most tutorials have results that look so ugly, like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Map_ro-xUwg

Spacedraw > daz > sfm > blender > the piratebay for everything else.

What the fuck are you trying to say, nigger?
>>

Rigs like that are usually accomplished with similar tutorials like the second one you linked. Most of what's shown in the first one has added steps to it, like those shapes around the jaw, which are custom made.

As for recommended rigging, if you're using Blender, I'd say "Humane Rigging", which can be found on YouTube. You can also look up several character creation tuts that go into detail of how rigging works. And that should be true for any program you want to use (Maya, Blender, 3DS/Max, what have you).

I still prefer maya but I gotta admit that blender has become pretty good in the past few years. Competition is a good thing, people will benefit from this, no matter what program they prefer
>>
>>607429
People like you and me are n the minority here. I like all 3D programs because they let me create stuff. I like some more, dependent on their usefulness for me.

Coming from xsi it looks its rigging to a bunch of curves(brows/nose/around the eyes/lips) and some blendshapes(mouth/blinks)
Basically you make some blendshapes and then lay out curves on top for further modification, if you want to send it to a game engine then you would skin to nulls constrained to curves.

blender has become quite something in terms of renders and shader outputs.

Blender has become quite something in terms of shilling and being horrible software.
