Let's talk about how the industry standards Zbrush, 3ds and Maya are vastly superior and Blendlets will never make it into the 3D Industryâ„¢
>>
Yes, let us all be baited by OP and argue about things that don't matter instead of actually working.
Just like we always do.
>>
>>627366
So shitpost and whine about software just like in any other thread?
Geez OP thanks for making a new one
>>
>>627398
>things that don't matter
Spotted the Blendlet.
>>
>>627404
Sure thing bro. Let's talk about why blender is a PoS for the 40th time today.
I think we all know it's worthless in the industry and only low-tier hobbyists will ever be included in its userbase.
Tell me, why should we care about shitting on it every single fucking day?
Or do you have nothing better to talk about? You probably don't. You probably come on /3/ just to argue about software you don't even use.
>>
>>627410
>You probably come on /3/ just to argue about software you don't even use.
You do know that's the point of /3/, right?

What is it with 'the Industry' meme?! instead of being a cg goyim why don't you lot go freelance, we all know that Pixar and co outsource their 3D work to Pajeet anyway
>>
>>627467
You don't understand.
If you don't get into the 3D industry you can just as well just stop doing 3D at all since you won't achieve anything otherwise. Same with the software. If you don't use the industry standard you will not be able to create anything of worth. All other ~software~ like opensores are just toys. They will get you NOWHERE. Don't even think about doing things differently or trying new things. You. Will. Fail.
Only use based standards and join the industry masterrace!

Freelance work is a meme. Software that "fits your needs just fine" is a meme. Opensores is a meme. Don't use memes and become a professional!

Those guys that make insane money off art are the lucky ones.
Most of them don't make shit and have to get another job just to support their "hobby."
Which is only a hobby because they can't find any work.
>>
>>627467
its some kid that thinks pixar is lurking on /3/ and deviantart to find exceptional talent. the truth is the industry doesn't give a shit about your meme work you posted online, they have a "pipeline" where they can just steal artists from other companies or hire by ear

There are literally thousands of normies and redditors who unironically think every board of 4chan is there for the sole purpose to act as stupid as possible while they cherish their precious Leddit their homebase.
A decade ago we had a great mix of some shitposts, ok trolls but also lots of really good content and posts. It's just fucking sad.

"the industry"
most people here probably imagine it as being like a sweatshop with thousands of computers lined up in row's working on the next big hollywood movie
>>
>>627724
pixar/dreamworks is like 30 people max. i don't think people here realize that. you don't swaths of people to make a movie.
there are teams of 5 that made very good movies already
>>
>>627725
So the chance of anyone getting hired in the "industry" is even smaller. Why do people continue to bitch about things that is equivalent to winning the lottery?
>>
What is the problem with blender? I am currently learning it.
>>
>>627747
for a generalist program, nothing. Well there are a bunch of stuff but you won't notice until you git gud. Don't expect that you'll get industry standard output with blender alone. You can do almost everything in Blender but it's a frustrating program to work with and I'm not talking about the user interface because that's a meme and anyone who complains heavily about the UI is probably retarded. Not saying it's perfect but it's not as bad as this board makes it out to be.
>>
>>627747
It's not the industry standard and you're learning the wrong thing (you can only use one software and be good at it!). Also, it's free so it's automatically shit. And the GUI is too complicated. You won't make ANY money while all the based industry bros are getting rich at this very second.
>>
>>627747
Software like Maya, 3ds Max and Zbrush are the ticked to the 3D industry.
If you're not pro at one of these you won't make it into the 3D industry.
>>
>>627720

>>

ill expand on this. (longtime user for 5 years)

in terms of modeling, UV mapping, rigging and animating its up to par with most 3D packages (and in some areas' even better) but like the guy said its not a "complete package"
for vfx, simulation, rendering, baking and texturing avoid blender.
the video editor and the compositor are the 2 obscure tools that no one uses but they are great
>>
Is it very hard to switch from Blender to other software? I am an absolute beginner, probably will not need too many advanced features anyway, if I even continue this as a hobby but having the option to switch later would be an advantage.
>>
>>627768
>Is it very hard to switch from Blender to other software?
Not at all, as long as you focus your learning on general principles rather than specific software techniques.

It helps to stay away from Blender-centric forums, and frequent instead sites like Polycount, CGSociety, or FXGuide.
>>
>>627768
depends on your skill level.
Learning it for the first time is always hard, chances are that if you learn it in Blender first you have to learn something again because Blender has an idiotic way of dealing with it.
Other than that, the core principles are the same.
>>
>>627763
Been dicking around in blender for around 8 years myself, I agree with everything in this post.
The video editor I would still avoid due to some sizing constraints. However if you don't ever need to scale your sources, then it's fine.
>>
>>627770
>>627772
It depends on how you learned.
If you watched nothing but blender tutorials who held your hand the entire way, you probably just learned your way around the software, rather than actual techniques.
I would suggest watching tutorials for other programs once you know your way around the program and try to follow them. If you can, then you're probably fine.
>frequent instead sites like Polycount, CGSociety, or FXGuide.
Make sure you do that, as well.

I live in a Western country. Even if I don't make enough to pay market prices on housing and food, the State affords me a basic quality of life while I don't find a decent income.

So if i understand correctly: blender is the go to software for life happiness and no one should use any other trash software because anyway it is impossibile to enter the "industry"?

>>tfw I can't tell anymore who is memeing and who is not since everything said on this board at this point is just a bait.
/3/ is one step closer to ascension.
>>
>>631067
>because anyway it is impossibile to enter the "industry"?
Now you're starting to get it.
>>
Here is a comparison about different 3D software performance while trying to render a simple 2000000 poli scene using the same hardware.

https://twitter.com/masu_cganime/status/1014528322104000513

This should set most arguments to rest.
>>
>>631067
its possible to get into the industry but you don't wanna do it.
doing art for fun, and churning it out is 2 different things
>>
>>631133
Yeah, no. That video isn't even about rendering. It's just comparing the time each software takes to _save_ a 2 million polygon scene to respective project file formats. It's so fucking low resolution too, it's hard to even make out anything besides the time taken and the software name.
>>
>>631136
If it's saving, then it's even less worthy of consideration. Blender dumps memory. Other programs output sanely structured scene data. No surprise then that it takes less time to save the scene, but that doesn't mean that it's better doing it that way.

The pure enjoyment you have when you use the industry standard is like nothing else!
