I'm starting to wonder if it is even worth it to start new series. JUMP is dying.
>>
JUMP is being shit for a while now
>>
>>153540677
You can tell from the get go that this shit was going to be supreme garbage though.
>>
Yeah it was shit, but this was probably the most abrupt cancellation of a series in a while.
>>
I can tell the author stopped trying from chapter 3 onwards.
>>
>>153540677

Why even bother serializing it in the first place?

That's a problem with JUMP's editors though. They're the ones that say who goes in. They keep the shit getting in while the good stuff out.

>>153540677
Nope. Jump has officially jumped the shark (kek). Go look elsewhere, way better series out there than the likes of jump.

Not as long as the editors keep approving this garbage.

Never read this one but the artwork is pretty shit going by this image. You either need good artwork, fujobait, harem or isekai wish fulfillment to really make it these days. One Piece would've been canceled in the first 20 chapters were it released today.
>>
>>153540994
Because they thought it could be popular.
Turns out it wasn't.
In fact, it was so unpopular it had to be axed as soon as possible.
It's a good thing too, now we can have something better.
>>

Still better than all those fetish manga that should just be porn or the isekai LN adaptations.
>>

Off yourself.
>>
>>153546008

Problem with this one is how ham-handed the premise is, perfect for much younger children but it's a high school setting and the art style is definitely more suitable for older audiences.

We'll have to see how it goes but for a first chapter it's absolutely toothless.
>>
>>153546008
This looks like some kind of parody image. Please tell me it isn't real.
>>
>>153546008
Sounds like what young people are saying Japan is like in 2017.
>>
Jump's most popular manga now:
>Haikyuu-high school male team sports
>BnHA-high schoolers with superpowers
>Black Clover-""""fantasy"""" adventure/fighting manga overflown with shounen clichés
Whee the fuck is the creativity?
And we're getting more and more new series that looks generic as fuck.
Confirmed dead.
>>
>>153546273
Meanwhile, popular series five years ago (and five years before that, and five years before that, and five years before that...)
>high school male team sports

Dead as fuck.
>>

The next new series Poro looks really cute
>>
>>153546362
In the 80s and 90s there were a lot of manga with adult protagonist.

Was being cancelled after 12 chapters also part of the demon's plan?

I honestly haven't kept up with anything manga related in the last year or two.

Even light novels have died for me cause they're so slow in releases.

I only occasionally browse Souma and Mon Musume threads for the weekly fanservice bit and that's it.

These days more than often I'm reading chinese novels (ISSTH, World of Cultivation, etc) than anything else because they have a continuous and steady stream of releases.
>>
>>153546470
I guess they saw that young boys (children/pre-teens/teens/young adults) were their biggest demographic so they wanted to have manga to which they can relate.
>>
>>153546470

The 80's and 90's.
>>
>>153546733
This manga had such a weak plot and bad pacing, but they should have realized that before they started even publishing it.

Rest in peace Mx0

Anon, that series was a huge pile of shit from chapter one.

JUMP is trying to find a new hit but they are looking in all the wrong places. There are some new series which have potential like Kimetsu no Yaiba but the rest are pretty crappy.
>>
>jump is dying because it keeps the popular ones that makes it money and axe the shitty one's that arent worth a damn

yeah demon plan woulda saved jump jokes on them.
>>
>>153540677

That was quick.
won't be shedding any tears for it.
Even if it didn't get canned the whole rule of 'one most die' tends to get writers cornered fast.

Took a slight interest because I thought the female companion was cute and it didn't really amount to anything.

Interestingly enough the series creator, Kohei Horikoshi had a series that only lasted 12 chapters in jump just prior to the currently highly successful boku no hero academia.

So maybe it's for the best and this guy will come back with something better. Probably not.
>>
>>153545210
>Naruto
>>
>>153546008

Why the fuck does JUMP keep doubling down on the High School setting. If you look at almost every hit series JUMP has published. Almost all of them don't have a school setting.
>>
>>153547080

Goes to show that if Naruto were released today it probably would have failed.
>>
>>153546071

It's more difficult to find series that don't star high schoolers.
>>
>>153547292
Too be fair, YYH barely counts for Highschool setting
>>
>>153547292
Main character being a high schooler =/= high school setting.

>>153547420

Yeah, they need more of their non-high school hits like AssClass and Boku no Hero Academy.
>>
>>153547420

>>

Point is a huge chunk of Jump hits, particularly recent jump hits, are school settings or at a minimum are schoolkid protagonists. Of course Jump wants more of that.

which one? the animal kingdom one or the star spear one? I didnt read the animal kingdom one but the star spear one felt really adventurous, felt like it was gonna be jumps ver. of mad max.

AssClass was fujobait garbage, Boku no Hero is westaboo with decent waifus. Neither one of them are actual hits. I'm talking Dragon Ball, Naruto, One Piece, HxH, early Bleach level of volume sales.

>>
>>153546008

>>
>>153546008
That's gonna get cancelled too, you have to strike gold with first volume sales to survive in Jump

Or hope you're chosen as the token gag/harem series of the magazine, then they give you some breathing room.
>>
>>153545425

Spring Weapon seems to be surviving as well. For now, at least.

But yeah it looks really bad that all these new series are axed before they really have a chance to develop anything. Some of them were DoA (like OP and Ibitsu) but others like Takuan and Red Sprite could have had something interesting happen. Basically, slow-starters are not allowed in Jump.

And before anyone says Neverland is a slow-starter, it is most definitely not. We've had DN-tier mind-games and high stakes since chapter 2.

Sometimes I wonder if just cancelling a series without forcing it to end would be better. Just a page of "Yeah, sorry, this was shit, nevermind". I think in some cases I'd prefer that over a premature "ending" the writer clearly did not intend. I mean, a cancelled tv series doesn't usually get an ending, and that feels bad in its own way, but I think that's preferable.
>>
>>153547158
Come on, as shit as the writing in naruto was, it at least had the decency to not be as bad as this until chapter 249

>I mean, a cancelled tv series doesn't usually get an ending, and that feels bad in its own way, but I think that's preferable.

They don't usually because they generally don't get the chance.
It works significantly different for television.
Some series won't even know if they're cancelled/not renewed until way after they're done filming.
And inconveniencing a few artists to drum up an end isn't nearly as complicated as shifting 10s of actors, crew, locations, whatnot to compile an end.

I imagine mangaka get about a month notice (4 or so chapters) to wrap things up. I probably prefer letting them try to end it.
It also gives the 'illusion' Jump isn't just putting them on a chopping board and saving face.

This got people riled up. I don't think it's a better option.

>Or are they only allowed to make so many chapters for a new series if they aren't a big time mangaka?
It has nothing to do with that, and everything to do with rankings and sales. Samon has sixty-something chapters now and is still running, and the guy who writes it has only written a few doujins before he started it. Basically, Demon's Plan wasn't good enough to keep, but the author may get a second chance one day. Horikoshi (who writes BNHA) had two series get cancelled in WSJ before he hit it big.
>>
Why is it so hard for these faggot mangaka to create Naruto/HxH/Bleach/DBZ clones? Its not that fucking hard.

I actually unironically love the Sasuke retrieval arc.
Shippuden wasn't as good as part one, but I thought it was decent untill the end of pain, almost everything after that is wonky to bad.

>>

>>153552626
I guess they decided to cut costs as much as possible. I mean why bother printing a one volume series of the most unpopular SJ manga to come out recently? It does suck though and hopefully the mangaka will get another chance in Jump.
>>
>>153552441

What makes you say that?

I read KnB for magical basketball and hardly noticed anything that could be construed as "fujopandering", unless FRIENDSHIP and RIVALRY and now fujobait. Because it had plenty of that (as most sports shounen do). I expect RxL to be more of the same only on a smaller scale since golf isn't a team sport.

Demon prince looks cute but I haven't seen anything about it that suggest fujobait. In fact all I've seen is the teaser art. I don't even know what genre it is. Comedy? SoL?

>>153551544

If by "fujobait" you mean "two or more males interacting with each other in any way" then yes, probably so.
>>
>>153552441
True. But Samon, Neverland, BC and Yuuna have little to no fujobait. Neverland and BC could actually go out of their way to appeal to fujos but they don't.
>>

That was seriously the climax of Naruto for years.
>>
>>153553343
It ended badly. People split up and moved away, forgot about one another, etc.
>>
>>153552835

Toriko tried that, did well for a while, then tanked hard.
>>
Are they just shotgunning new series right now hoping to get a hit?

They had plenty of time with bleach and naruto ending to carefully tryout and vet things.

The got boku no hero academia, which was a great pickup, but a lot of these ones they are giving a shot all of a sudden are blatantly iffy.
>>
>>153553357
There are degrees of fujobait.
>>
>>153553343
Sadly yes, you can still enjoy cute Karin for a short while but don't expect much payoff at all or the MC growing a pair either.
>>
>>153553256
Something about if you pay a billion dollar you can get your wish granted by some guy with a demon box.
2 orphans who become best friends, saved up since their entire childhood to get their wish granted.
turns out the wish granting demon box thing is fake, 2 orphans bros get framed for stealing some bank money that coincidentally is the same amount as they have saved up.
they both get sent to jail, the sasuke looking bro was going to sacrifice himself, but suprise suprise.
the demon wish granting box was real, but some other guy had it.
Demon wish granting box turns people into highlanders with special power.
Last highlander standing gets to get their wish granted.
Mc Sasuke bro leaves MC behind, MC is qualified to be a highlander too.

Samon and Wonderland are the only 2 new promising series that jump have to offer right now.
I guess even Hero academia is decent those times, but in 90s or 80s Jump it would be cancelled pretty soon.
Black Clover is boring and it feels like Fairy Tail over and over again, even with Naruto as mc. Dropped after 50 chapters
Yaiba has terrible art and plot was boring or tooslow, dropped after 25 chapters
I usually like spokon, but Haikyuu didn't do it for me
Soma got repetitive after a while
WT was killed by his hiatus
>>
>>153554160
I don't blame early Sasuke for his dickish behavior since he was the only one who took this ninja thing seriously,
Naruto was a fucking idiot, Kakashi was just fucking around if shit wasn't real and don't even get me started on Sakura.
He does warm up to them, but then Itachi came along and he had to ruin everything.
>>
You can't expect Jump to keep around a series like Demon's Plan, it didn't have anything going for it.
Also, even series that start out strong can fall out of grace very quickly, like Kiruko-san.

Jump is correct in giving a little while for the author to finish the series or leave a cliffhanger however they want. It'd be worse to just have a "this series will not be continued in the next edition of WSJ" message.

When are they going to move Dragonball Super from VJump to WSJ
>>

Yes, the author had to rush the last chapters, the ending turned out pretty meh as result, but it didn't really feel inconclusive, which is much more than most these new series that get axed within the 30 chapter range get to experience (Psyren has 146 chapters, for example).

>>153554905

It did fine for a long time, but just like all the newest series from the mid 2000's which were supposed to be the saviors of WSJ (DGM, Nura, Toriko and so on) the ratings started to go down due genre fatigue I guess

>>
>>153557773

Don't get me wrong

>>
>>153557741

I dunno', based on the leaked pages and the one-shot I think she (he?) will do well enough. It seems like the mangaka is good at telling stories in a succinct way plus her art is great. I definitely have a soft spot for Poro right off the bat because she came up with a pretty unique design for a demon. Usually they just look like normal people but lol no they're demons guys I swear. She gave him weird eyes and a funky design without going full edgelord so kudos to her. What I've seen from her doesn't feel like an amateurs work unlike U19 and a few others, it gives off an established vibe so I guess only time will tell how right or wrong I am.
>>
>>153557773
>>153557868

I just can't understand how anyone could like that steaming pile of shit. The story was incredibly heavy handed not to mention poorly executed and the art was awful. And I do mean awful. MC looked like a character that a 14 year old would come up with - though I did appreciate bald-chan for the few panels we saw her in. Not many people would 'deface' a cute schoolgirl like that, it was a bold move. Too bad it wasn't the heroine to give it even more impact.
>>
>>153540677
This really shouldn't have tried to Naruto. It was too damn sudden, both in terms of plot and in that Naruto just ended like two years ago so it's still relatively fresh in people's minds.

You don't want your readers to compare you to a very popular franchise and find you lacking. It's just like when Jump tried have their own AoT with Iron Knight.
>>
>>153558179
I'll refrain from commenting on the other aspects since there's barely any content to judge that but the art wasn't bad at all. It's no Eyeshield 21 but I'd put it on the same level or above Fairy Tail.
>>
>>153540677
You're an idiot, garbage series like this are essential because it teaches the mangaka what being serialized in the toughest magazine is like which allows them to then prepare for their next work and potentially come back with a huge hit (see: Masami Kurumada, Tetsuo Hara, Kazuki Takahashi, Tite Kubo, Sho Makura, Yoshihiro Togashi, Takeshi Obata, Hirohiko Araki, Yuto Tsukuda, Daisuke Ashihara, etc.)

I'm getting real sick of fucking retards like you (who aren't even paying for or voting in the magazine no less)
>>
>>153557752
Boku no Hero will last, but whether it reaches the same popularity as Naruto will depend a lot on the next anime and how well it is received.

Jump has never been so desperate as it is now. It's been greenlighting and axing shit faster than ever before, while trying to fill the void that Naruto and Bleach left when they ended, while knowing perfectly well that their current replacements, Black Clover and Boku no Hero aren't generating the hype their predecessors did in their heyday.

That's why they didn't let Toriyama end Dragon Ball end on his terms. Whenever a flagship series ends, they suddenly become a headless chicken, while waiting for the next hit.

They're the best selling magazine by a margin of over 100%. In fact, their lead on all other magazines has actually grown slightly since Naruto ended. They also have One Piece literally printing money for another however many years.
>>
>>153559318
Nobody is questioning that retard. What I'm saying is that they're paranoid in order to keep it that way. You can't deny Jump isn't even a shadow of what it was when the Big 3 were serialized. Both the serialized and the axed manga quality is a noticeable drop from before, many of them resorting to pandering.
>>
>>153559609
>quality
Jump's editors don't care about quality, they care about sales. And sales-wise, Haikyuu (I don't know why the fuck you mentioned Clover over that) did better last year than Bleach did any time in the last decade and comparable to what Naruto did for almost all of that period, while BnHA and Shokugeki both did better than Bleach had been doing for the last five years, so at best you're seriously exaggerating this "void" that these supposedly left recently. Fuck, you should be mentioning AssClass instead, that left a much bigger void than Bleach did.
>>
Why the fuck does Black Clover dude write like a teenager with ADHD? I swear his pacing feels like if he was getting cancelled.
>>
You know, have you guys considered the possibility you're a bit tool old for Jump?
You must be in your 20s at least right?

I personally stopped reading Jumpshit around my 20th birthday almost a decade ago. Was the content then better than now? No. It was still shit. It always has been shit. We grew up.

The Promised Neverland saw a big jump in sales with the release of volume 2 (first two days that is). It's going to get an anime after this first arc is over I'm willing to bet.
>>
>>153558472
>Boku no Hero will last, but whether it reaches the same popularity as Naruto
It won't. Even when it was copying the Naurto exam arc (the one that propelled Naruto to international success and million of sales) it was still mediocre.

BnH is altogether generic and not very good. It is one of the few manga in Jump worth reading but that doesn't make it less average.

Picking a random year, 2000 had 12 new series, 9 of them were flops and one (Sand Land) was a miniseries that ended within the year. And the 2 successes of that year were Black Cat and Pyu to Fuku! Jaguar, neither were huge hits. So this is the natural cycle of Jump.

Speak for yourself. In any case, battle shonen is still more enjoyable than haremshit, it's just kind of stupid instead of outright infuriating. I don't find shonen to be very exceptional, but it is still entertaining to me and I prefer that to the pain of harem series. If the MC is going to be a gay oblivious boring faggot who has an unrealistic disinterest in females, at least have the series objective not be his relationships with females.
>>
>>153557330
Aren't there only 3 series left.
>>
>>153560489
I've noticed this too, I've become much more disinterested in the class' school troubles. The chapter with Overhaul was awesome and so was the Toga reveal because they both felt like progress. All Might vs All For One is the cause I feel. Going from that to the provisional license exam was such a downgrade. Horikoshi also needs more chapters where it's just Shigaraki and friends. If he wants to build this parallel between Deku and Shigaraki we need to spend more time with Shigaraki.

No. It really isn't.
There was a short while in the early 2000s when they were trying to be edgy with it and it was kinda fun, but it lost all originality and flavour a long time ago.

Otherwise only a kid or a manchild can enjoy it.

The only only shounen that are good now are the ones with sports, cooking, etc. Pretty much everything that isn't fighting per se.

It is. After the last arc ended I stopped reading the manga hoping something will eventually happen so I can pick it up again. It doesn't seem like it will anytime soon.

This is the problem with baby's first serialized manga. H. has no idea how to pace the manga and it's showing.

They should change his editor to someone more overbearing capable of telling him to man up and move the story along. His current editor is a tard.
>>
>>153561646
I'm going to have to completely disagree that nothing is going to happen soon. It's clear this arc is going to deal with Overhaul, which is clearly the next step in advancing the overall story for both Deku and Shigaraki.
>>
>>153561646
>baby's first serialized manga

what

He's had two serializations before (even if neither lasted that long). And I thought the pace was fine for the first 100 chapters or so, and since then it's just become agony for whatever reason
>>
BC is the exact opposite of MHA, with stuff happening too fast to have weight and every arc consisting of just rushing forward and ridiculous escalation of stakes.
>>
The provisional license exam does make me wonder if Jump has intervened and is forcing the series to go on longer than necessary. Hori wanted to end it at 300 right, or was it 400 chapters?
>>
>>153561745
You'd think that, but I thought the twice chapter was going to lead to something...it ended up being 10 chapters before we even saw the villains again.
>>
>>153561775
The start was pretty slow as well.
All of the arcs have been kinda slow. Kinda boring.
Well the boring part isn't something he can really do anything about, he's just not a particularly good writer. But at least the pacing is a question of experience and less about talent so his editor should've helped there.
>>
>>153561845
Deku vs Bakugo happened in those chapters and that is notable progress. The inevitable reveal to Bakugou that Deku was All Might's successor had been building for arcs when the reveal was finally made.
>>
Bakugou is the only well written character in MHA right now. No surprise he won the poll.
>>
The story is definitely moving in HeroAca but it's gotten to a snail's pace after the Hideout Raid arc. I'm almost certain this is due to editorial intervention. The story was probably moving way too fast for their tastes beforehand.
>>
>>153561976
But ultimately, it didn't really change the status quo, did it? Their relationship isn't much different than it was before, and nothing truly dramatic happened. The buildup felt like it went nowhere.
>>
>>153562135
Nothing has happened in the manga so far that I'd call dramatic or inspirational. It's just kinda been average and predictable.

Every chance Hori has had to show the strength of character of the main cast he's kinda wasted it save for a couple of scenes with All Might but he's not the MC. And hell, he didn't even kill All Might when he should have.

I think Hori doesn't know how to make a proper gag fightan and doesn't want to write a typical drama figthan either so it's just kinda bland overall.
>>
>>153562356
I found All Might vs All For One to be pretty inspirational. Also it's hard to see you call the manga predictable when literally everyone predicted All Might's death that never happened.

But yes, Hori needs to step up with the main characters now that All Might has permanently stepped down.
>>
>>153562356
I liked stain and the camp rescue stuff. Since then, he just seems dead-set on being a buzzkill for any angle that would potentially make the series exciting. All Might not dying was weak, but there was at least the promise of villain activity being increased. Since then, we've gotten...a handful of villain chapters, and some cops saying "the villains are more active now". It's an endless tease because we expect them to do something but it's taking far too long for anything to happen.

We just get more training and exams, except he's not as good at writing that stuff as other shounen authors

It isn't but I can see it going the harem meandering Nisekoi route very easily.

>>
>>153562612
It's pretty sad when the reason you'd say it's not predictable is the one thing that could've made the manga good and move the story along.

All might is defacto dead. He's too weak to affect the story in any way besides finally dying now. So again, his death like everything else has been kept back for whatever reason. I don't know how many hundreds of chapters Hori intends on dragging these initial arcs out to but if he wants his manga to thrive he should get them over with.

I didn't think I'd ever say this but he should probably study Naruto. That's one manga that however shit it was managed to introduce new villains every arc and hype you up for the fights with them.

I don't really get why people are complaining about the pacing. We are 50 chapters in so far:

>MC has done his 'chuunin exams'
>MC encounters main bad and we learned a decent amount about him.
>MC already fought against one of the generals and won
>MC was introduced to all of the strongest yokai hunters and their faction leader.
>Currently going through the second training arc which seems to have wrapped up in 2 chapters.

Honestly, compared to most other battle Shounen I think the pacing is fine. My biggest issue so far is with the way Nezuko's character is being handled. I like the character but I just hope the author isn't planning on keeping her a mute for the rest of the series. She's more of a dog/pet at this point than a person. Which is strange considering no other Yokai that has been shown is like that.

JUMP is always fishing for the next One Piece|Dragon Ball. This isn't anything new. They try new authors and axe their shit all the time. If you look back through the years this is the same shit they have done until a new hit series is found. I think they are hitting a bit of a slump right now. Any day now they will find the next big thing, might be one of the newer series, one shots they are currently publishing. Now a big hit like One Piece or Dragon Ball don't come often. Eventually some rookie author will break big in JUMP and his/her shit will be shilled to oblivion.

I will say this about recent JUMP. They have been pushing the wrong series for the past 10 years or so. They shilled Toriko like fucking crazy. I don't know why they expected that to be the next Dragon Ball. It was okay at best, nice idea poorly implemented. Definitely had its moments. Same thing happened with BnHA, although at least that didn't receive a cancerous Toei adaptation.

Also, a lot of people here are speculating (jokingly) that TLR could go back to JUMP. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if they did this. If you aren't following that series, it has reached a point where the only way it can move forward is with a battle shonen space/adventure transition. Basically Rito (MC) will have to battle his way to becoming Harem King. The author already had a hit battle series on JUMP before (Black Cat) so it wouldn't be surprising.

Okay, picture this: you're the author of a long running series in Jump. It's been going on for a couple hundred chapters, it's gotten pretty convoluted, lots of characters, lots of things in the air.

One day, Jump calls you to tell you your series is getting the axe, and you have, say, five chapters to wrap it up.

There's obviously no sensible way you can do it. But instead of going out with a whimper, you decide to go out with a BANG.

What do you do? What last-minute plot twist or asspull or whatever do you introduce? Would you turn the ending into a surrealist masterpiece or the biggest cliffhanger you can think of, or a huge cocktease, or something else entirely? How would you make your premature ending memorable, instead of just shit?

>>
>>153564134
Ask kids to send in their artwork and just fill out five chapters of that :^)
For real though, I think I would make every main character just disappear. Suddenly they're completely gone from the universe, but everything else is the same and everyone knows they've disappeared. Draw a bunch of big landscapes of their past battlefields, draw their friends/family now lazing around their homes not knowing what to do with their time. Draw their end goal now just collecting dust or whatever. Over these scenes add some text saying that the world will go on without them.
If I'm feeling like a dick then leave it at that. If I'm not feeling like a dick then at the end of the final chapter add some bullshit about how everyone was made better by having known the MCs and they'll carry their memories on blah blah.
My point here is to kind of draw a parallel to how my long-running series is just kind of up and disappearing.

New villain appears: Shuwayshuh

He's there to erase the world unless he's properly entertained, and all the heroes and villains drop everything to band together and fight him

Pull out all the stops, do the coolest action shit you can think of, combos between characters no one ever thought they'd see

Penultimate page of last chapter Shuwayshuh snaps his fingers and says "Still not interesting."

Last page is completely blank except for the text in the bottom corner that says the end
>>
>>153564635
Pretty much this only far more vindictive, like the fan favourite characters get captured by the Shuwayshuh empire and are basically the closet thing to systematically and utterly destroyed (Not Killed, that would be a release) you can get away with in Jump today.

Thing ends with the world replaced by a blander more safer world, one that is declared "Good" by the empire and have the end caption read that it shall last for eternity.

Zoom on MC Replacement's eye, the eternity of horror be upon him.

Biggest, largest Kanji for "End" you can draw on a comic page.

Fujos don't always go for the androgynous traps, though. I'm pretty sure plenty of dudes like them too.

It felt like it had enough other things going on to not be fujobait, and I say this as a fujo. There's more emphasis on Nagisa/Kayano than Nagisa/Karma, the only other gay ship that's kind of a thing is Isogai/Maehara (for some reason). But all the actual romance and relationship jokes were het ones (Karasuma/Irina, Koro/Aguri, etc).

Also I feel like there are more doujins of Nagisa getting tentacle raped than there are of him getting fucked by a human male. And shota tentacle rape possibilities aren't really fujobait to me.

>>153564134
I can't decide between "MC was in a coma all along" and "it was all a dream".

Coma would be more sad, if the series was generally happy, that would be a more jarring shift, I'd go with that one. Last five chapters have a totally different tone and art style as we see "reality".

Dream would maybe more infuriating though. MC wakes up where he was in chapter one and goes about his completely mundane day. It would make the series feel even more pointless than the coma ending, that would be fun too.

Basically, I just want the implication that all the adventures and friendships they made along the way don't exist.

If you want to go with the greenlighting/axing shit thing as a sign of desperation, it's actually (historically) a sign of prosperity, the years they went through the most series was when they were selling 6 million copies because no new series could overthrow the established classics

They are going through just as many series now as they have for more than ten years. And more importantly, the manga industry in general is failing and will continue to do so...you have to look at the lead they have over their competitors which continues to be absolutely ridiculous.

Also, I'm not sure if they keep this stuff secret, but does anyone ever consider that sales are lower because of digital sales? Most stuff gets released same day digitally nowadays.

The last few chapters show how the world the villain created actually is a better place to live in compared to the old world order the heroes defended.

I want a series a bout a disgruntled Jump editor, who does his best to get every series he supervises axed. Along comes some cocky upstart mangaka, who manages to make a successful series, by taking his editor's shitty advice and twisting it into something the readers like. Series consists of the editor coming up with new schemes to get the series axed (think Wile.E.Coyote) and getting thwarted by the mangaka. There's also tits and great legs.

I don't think Kinnikuman got axed...I mean, fuck, when one half of Yudetamago was hospitalized during the final arc of the series and it had to be put on hiatus, the magazine went and fucking reprinted two chapters in each issue he missed, as well as updates about his health and messages from the creators

It ended completely naturally on a final arc that was over 100 chapters long...I think they ended it where they wanted to...they also spent the next decade getting cancelled series in Shonen Jump until they just went to Playboy and made a Kinnikuman sequel (where they have continued making Kinnikuman sequels for over twenty years now)

So did they coast too long?
>>
>>153574064
Well, unless he moves to another magazine where he won't be held to his previous work...but I just don't know what else he wants to do, he could have easily used Gintama to go on forever with short gags but he instead wanted to give all the characters a proper conclusion...but I don't know if that's just because he cares about his fans and wants to finish this one properly before starting a new one or if he wants to retire

That said, historically most of the biggest stars of Jump's history have gone on to make even more successful works, but a number of them did it by going seinen, which I don't really see Sorachi being interested in

What makes the past decade of Jump so confusing and unknowable in the future is it's the first era where manga were just left to keep going for ages and relatively weak series could get to 30 volumes

We haven't seen any of these mangaka of the long-running titles even try to come back yet (like normally by now you'd have expected someone like Kishimoto or Shinohara to have returned with a new series), Fujimaki, Tamura and Inagaki will be some of the first to come back so I'm quite interested to see how they are received
>>
Do you think its Jump that has been holding back Togashi's chapter until at least one manga stick the landing? They're also very lenient with Oda with break and all
>>

Still in the works. Kishimoto has been working for years, and is still consulting on Boruto. Give him some time.
>>

>>
>>153574675
The problem is they're trying to find the next Naruto/Bleach instead of trying to find a series that's unique of it's own accord and any similarities is minimal.

As a publisher they would take a big hit but so would the manga industry as a whole as far as smash successes go. I don't think it's as certain the magazine would suffer, the magazine is already at its lowest-selling point ever since like the 70's, One Piece outsells it by a significant margin which means that a huge portion of people who buy One Piece don't buy the magazine. I think a lot of people follow the magazine for the same reason the people in these threads do, to see if they can catch the next big hit

They had AssClass as a surprise big hit a while ago, to the point where Korosensei featured next to Luffy on the covers with all the current running series. A bit surprising how hard they pushed it even when it only started serializing actually since Matsui'd previous work Neuro only did moderately well overall and spent most of its lifetime in the bottom half of the SJ ToC.

>It's pretty rare for Mangakas to have another hit after a long successful running series.

Not really, a lot of successful WSJ mangaka came back with another strong long-runner.

See: Toriyama, Hojo, Morita, Togashi, Obata, Yabuki, Shimabukuro, Matsui and Murata.
Their new series were also all more successful than their initial hit, except for Morita (and Murata, but it's only a matter of time until OPM outsells Eyeshield 21).

One Piece had three boosts in sales throughout its lifespan (East Blue arc, Skypedia and Marineford). Naruto had two boosts (during the second arc in the anime and at the beginning of part 2) Bleach only had one (Soul Society).
>>153561553
>Series never get a boost from second seasons
Tokyo Ghoul, Haikyuu, Kuroko and while not a second season OP got a huge boost in 2009 with Strong World that was way late in its run so basically despite already being a high seller most of the nation still had not picked up the manga. Also the reairing of the anime has brought back all volumes of the HeroAca manga in the Top 500.

I seriously hate characters like that. They have to put in someone the audience can project onto, with little to no powers compared to the MC, so they make up the biggest fucking weenie possible. Never fights, half the height of everyone else, never has any input, development never matters, nothing. He just gets dragged into stupid shit, sits in the stands and makes gag manga faces whenever MC or the arc villain opens their fucking mouth.

It sucked in One Piece, it sucked in Toriko, it was so bad in Shaman King that I fucking dropped it, etc. And yet they keep doing it. The closest I can think of to getting it right is Kengan Asura, and that's just because he has the observational skills to keep up with what's going on, sometimes to their advantage.
