>>154764791Literally none of them. 0.Anime is geared to appeal to the lowest common denominator of japanese society. Either children and teenagers, or adult otaku. The latter are the ones that have money to spend, so this is the target audience of love stories anime most of the time. Also the only other target demographic interested in love stories are shoujo series, but they won't have good writing since their audience is teenaged girls. Anyways, these otaku are the kind that rejected reality and decided that investing his effort and energy on fantasy worlds would make him happier, since he was rejected by the real world. For these anime, anything resembling irl logic makes the otaku reject the whole series, like the girl having an ex, or the guy being a not-mary sue that isn't a bland piece of shit that's liked by everyone for no reason.Japan will never produce a good love story anime as long as it's audience is teenaged girls and autists.

>>154764791Toradora is the greatest love story ever told, far surpassing stories like Romeo and Juliet.Compared to Toradora, the love story in Romeo and Juliet is superficial and one-dimensional. There's no substance or depth or chemistry in the interactions between the two main characters. They exchange cliche love dialogue which mostly consists of them adoring each other's good looks. The basis for the attraction Romeo has to Juliet is that she's a generically handsome and polite young girl. Yet, it is implied that there is a deeper emotional connection between the two that has never been established because they barely even know each other.Toradora, on the other hand, is the greatest love story ever told. I can't think of any other work of fiction in which two lovers fit together as well as Taiga and Ryuuji. The flaws of one character are perfectly complemented by the strengths of the other. Ryuuji’s practicality and low-key attitude is the perfect yin to Taiga’s abrasive, loud, and fiercely liberal spirit’s yang. Each finds comfort in the other as well, as Ryuuji’s paternal instincts being a support to Taiga, who’s family life is nonexistent, and her consequences-be-damned attitude liberates Ryuuji from the pressure of having to always act so mature.I think that the only reason why garbage like Romeo and Juliet is still regarded with such reverence is because of historic, rather than artistic, reasons. It was highly influential in the past. Therefore, it must be great art. It certainly was influential, but it's still a superficial love story which Shakespeare actually stole from people like William Painter and Arthur Brooke.

>>154782385To be fair, the only good thing about GT was the college setup, and the friendship portrayal. The romance was pretty lame, not bad but nothing special. However, the amnesia plot device was horrible as fuck. There's no way any story can be good if its based on amnesia and fucking ghost Tada Banris doing shit.
>>154782494Ghost banri threads were godly.
>>154782415There's three new E7 movies, one coming this year, 2018, and 2019. The first is a prequel, first Summer of Love. The second and third are supposed to follow the plot of the original series, but with a few new scenes and a completely new ending.
It's been a while since I watched it but I remember Lovely Complex did romance pretty well.Risa and Otani start out with snarky back and forth jabs, start to realize they actually like each other, confess and kiss halfway through the show, then try to overcome obstacles they encounter as a mismatched couple.
>>154775982Pretty darn good list here, Planetes is definitely a very good example.I want to say Crest of the Stars, but that show will just give you shipping blue balls. With anime it's kinda hard. But there's plenty of good romance Mangas.Emma comes to mind. Onani Master Kurosawa? Molester Man?Also, it's not a manga, it's a manhwa, but you should definitely read "The Girl From Class".Definitely.
Spice and Wolf does it pretty well with the constant flirting between Lawrence and Horo
>>154776103Also happens to be the only one to do incest right, Koi Kaze is truly a masterpiece.
>>154782716Lovely Complex is one of the worst examples of shoujo reverse thrust. It goes through the "I don't like him -> Okay maybe I do -> But he doesn't like me -> Or does he? -> MISUNDERSTANDING -> return to step one" cycle like four goddamn times over the course of a dozen episode. Fuck that show, I only finished out of spite.
I wanted to say Koe no Katachi... but then I just made myself feel sad.NOT EVEN A FUCKING HUG, FUCK
>>154782633Oh fuck. Can't believe I hadn't heard anything.A preque sounds amazing. I really hope we get to see Holland and the gang before the events of the series. However, I'm not too excited about the other movies. There's no way they can tell the plot in just 2 movies without destroying the pacing and removing a lot of stuff. One of the most important parts of E7 was its relaxed pacing and smallish character roster. With 50 eps they had enough time to build a lot of the relationships and develop the characters. Even if Eureka was a massive cunt for a good portion of the series, her relationship with Renton developed nicely. Even the annoying kids grew on me.I guess they can't be as bad as Eva rebuild.
>>154782933There were only two threads, that can be missed.
>>154764791Inu x Boku.
>>154764791Plastic memories was rushed but I think it did a decent job, guy fall in love with an android that is scared to die, I've always said they could have squeezed 2 seasons out of it, but with the entire show being over a time-span of 3-5 months I feel that emotional attachment was hard to achieve besides that which is based on the pity of her imminent death...Overall 8/10 if they would have had a year to live and not worried about it while they were just starting the relationship, it would have been easily 9/10 if not one of the best romance anime.Less despair and regret, More living and happiness for the time you get.
>>154782416I can't like it as a primary genre. It needs to be subtle or in the background, since the characters are in the foreground already. Ichigo 100% kinda did it right by making the mc go out with second girl at the end, instead of first girl. The worst thing many (shounen) romances do, is to let the main character helplessly fall in love with the guy/girl that gives him/her the first reaction in their pants.

>>154783231>I can't like it as a primary genre. It needs to be subtle or in the background, since the characters are in the foreground already.I agree. >>154767927Human males are often entering the "relationship" with human female to breed and have offspring. Love serves as biochemical mechanism which is suppose to help rise offspring. Humans produce low number of babies in comparison to other animals. Because of that they need to ensure that baby survives to carry genetic information further. Having two members of a species caring for a baby helps with that. This is what relationship is for. Of course human needs reason to enter the relationship. Love is there for it. Usually we need to have a set of variables to identify love. First both members of a relationship are enjoying each other's company, second both members of species are performing tasks that are biochemically strengthening their bond. There we have kissing, physical contact, sexual activities and so on. And at last but not least we have "getting used to". Living together on daily basis for a long time and performing activities together makes both specimens "comfortable" you can say. I mean they are adapting to this kind of life, and sudden change would be problematic, they would need to learn how to live by themselves again and so on. Specimens are reluctant to go through that so they decide to stay with each other forever. Of course biochemical bond between humans is not that strong. There are animals in the world that are always staying in their relationships forever until death of one specimen happens. Humans on the other hand can exit a relationship if they want to, sure they suffer some biochemical backlash but it is possible. In some other species it is not possible. Instinct is simply too strong.
>>154785727The manga that got me laid. Thanks Kana.
I watched Sasameki Koto recently and liked itAlthough I was a bit disappointed, the first episode made it seem like it was going to be more focused on romance/drama/crying gay anime schoolgirls but later episodes started to have more comedy focus
>>154764791The ones that do it right tend to be short.Dowman's Muse is the best love story ever told and it's only 5 pages.

>>154787930This. By far the best romance manga i've ever read.
Not anime but this manga portrays romance for the average anon pretty well, before he gets his harem of course.
>>154787802I want to believe! (especially because that is one of my favorites too.)
punpun depicted abusive relationships as best as manga can desu
>>154787802>Hanging out with female friend who is a closet pervertManga isn't what got you laid.

>>154767927It's an evolutionary mechanism whereby which the continual production of offspring of your own species is achieved. >>154790110fucking stop remind me picrel
Real talk /a/, tell us about the characters that should've won. Let's restart the legendary waifuwars of old.I'm still confused over who was better in School Rumble, Yakumo or Eri. I'm just sad Tenma didn't jump off a building in the first chapter.
>>154764842>the only mature person on the entire show is a anoying little princessnop
>>154791632Obviously Harima was the best girl anon. Eri was second.
>>154791632Yakumoe was better. Eri wasn't bad, but she was just standard tsundere fare we've seen time and time again by the time we got to meet her. Also: Mikoto best girl and best bro is the group of animals that always have Harima's back.
Berserk is the best love story ever told
>>154791780Unironically this. Casca and Guts are my favorite pairing.
>>154777036if i broke your heart would you die?
>>154791760Yakumo was the standard Yamato Nadeshiko though to be fair.
>>154791780This, Griffith did nothing wrong.
>>154791738The gay fishing boat guy should've won.I recently reread some of the earlier volumes and the manga chapters with Yakumo and Harima are some good shit and Eri's sports festival etc. chapters are great too. I still don't know how the author made Eri and Yakumo so appealing, but the man did an amazing job.
Best pairing is Gendou and Ritsuko. No love, just hate sex.
>>154791833Yeah, but for every one of those we get 10 tsunderes, that is the problem between Eri and Yakumoe.
>>154791833I don't really agree with you there, a Yamato Nadeshiko is supposed to be graceful and sophisticated, she was way too shy and awkward for that.
>>154791856>did not saved best shota
>>154791917"The term "Yamato nadeshiko" is often used referring to a girl or shy young woman and, in a contemporary context, nostalgically of women with good traits which are perceived as being increasingly rare"I just grabbed that from wikipedia. My understanding was that the shyness is part of the appeal to japanese dudes.
>>154791632Yakumo should've won. Less so because of Yakumo's character (I personally prefer Eri even) but more because that whole subplot about Harima being a mangaka should've actually gone somewhere and Yakumo happened to be tied to that whole thing. She helped the guy find a sense of self-worth in his life, let her win her man as her reward damnit.
>>154792029My bad then, I had it in my head that it was the stereotypical cool beauty thing they love to push.I got this >she always respects and obeys her husband and never opposes him, even when she thinks he's wrong I always thought it was a pretty weird concept to be frank, because I always understood it in the above context.
>>154792029Wiki is wrongsource: 10,000 hours in VNs
>>154791662>mature>little princessare you ok?
>>154792362I'm open to other interpretations. It's just the understanding of the term I've had. Demure, attractive etc etc.>>154792322I could definitely be wrong. If we're going by Street Fighter then it's just a wrestler with a bowlcut.
>>154792206I preferred Eri on my first readthrough too, but now that I go back, it's hard reading Yakumo's scenes because she's painfully selfless. Would it have killed Kobayashi to let her struggle for something?
>>154791035>Everyone can be a superheroEven me?
>>154792480Yes everyone, everyone except (You)
>>154783184Plastic Memories is a disaster. The worst bait and switch series in a long time. And the few things they did right were thrown into the trash when they did that last minute thing in the last episode. If there is a prime example of a series with excelent potential that ended utterly wasted is this.
The Simpsons 10/10 romance huehuehue
>>154764941>>154787984You sure love white-haired catgirls, aren't you?
>>154792362You're pretty good anon, I'll take your word for it.>>154792443Hell, we could both be wrong. I prefer your understanding of it though, the one I had had some weird connotations. I found it bizarrely controlling - made all of those MCs who want to date a Yamato Nadeshiko seem like some right weird fucks.
Honestly, Golden Time is the only romance focused show I ever got through. Was pretty fun.
>>154792443The Nadeshiko part of the name is a wildflower. The keyword here being "Wildflower" which means this bitch can survive the winter and bloom again the next springCombine this with ancient societal norms of how women are supposed to behave and you get the archetype of Yamato Nadeshiko, that speaks of the ideal Japanese doormat housewife who nonetheless contains within her an iron will. Yamato nadeshikos tend to act all shy and demure, but when push comes to shove they got your back 100% being Determinators as fuck, that is what the character is meant to be.
>>154792476It's made worse by the fact that Yakumo as a character just sorta goes nowhere herself. I guess it goes for everyone to an extent because of the ending but Eri had a lot more development with Harima towards the end and of course Tenma goes to Karasuma, whereas Yakuma was just sort of there.
>>154792836I see. I've never seen the determined side of it short of "kill yourself to avoid dishonour" shit in old samurai shit.My view was basically a shy attractive doormat which is Yakumo in my eyes.
>>154764791The problem with 99% of romance is that the girl always falls for the guy because *he's nice* to her. Like he has no redeeming qualities or even a personality beyond being a regular nice guy. Some anime tend to sidestep this better than others (like toradora), but most fall into the same pit trap (WA2).
>>154792836So, the whole ''they will not go against their husband even if they don't agree with him'' thing is incorrect?
>>154792902How does Toradora sidestep what you're talking about?
>>154792899>>154792846Yakumo needed character development badly. A shame too, she had a great design and was a fun character to read.
>>154774318>Kokoro Connectthat was terrible, and it's more of a drama
Friendly reminder that "realistic" does not necessarily mean "good"
>>154789886>in other shows they are afraid of kissing even after half a year in their relationship
>>154793181Well, we are watching anime or reading manga, I think that goes without saying even more than in other forms of media.
>>154778344>edgy shit for teenagersAnime's romance is for manchildren
>>154792899The original Yamato Nadeshikos where ladies of high society, back in the day that meant a Samurai clan, And THAT meant they got trained to fight so they could defend themselves in case another rival clan decided it was time to invade when Hubby and his friends where out pillaging the countryside. (This is also where the Naginata being a woman's weapon comes from, as it was a usual dowry for the family of the husband when they took their daughter in)>>154792983Nah, this part is sort of correct, in public and even to his face they will be perfectly agreeable, but that doesn't mean they never disagreed or did something behind their husbands backs. The part they never talk about the character archetype is how they can also be master social manipulators. If you want a character who is Yamato Nadeshiko with no extra bullshit added just look at Belldandy from Oh My Goddess, with the exception that she's not Japanese she's is 100% what this trope is meant to embody
>>154764791Teaching Feeling will when it gets an anime.
>>154793181It's usually the exact opposite actually. Realistic fiction is boring as fuck.
>>154793470Well damn, they drop the most interesting part of the character just like that. What a shame.
>>154793775What did he mean by this?
>not even a mention ??after reading the manga, i think the story was very well done
there are a bunch i liked (as far as manga) like Skill of Lure and Taiyou no Iebut I'm still pining for that one perfect piece of escapism
>>154764791surprisingly pic relatedI hate romance because usually it is terrible and I am not interested in it. But this was one of the few instances where romance actually did not bother me.That said, I wish anime producers would stop trying to shove in shitty and forced romance everywhere.
Kimi Ni Todoke was cute in a weeny kind of way.
>>154794036Good thing the nipples are covered or else this would be NSFW.
>>154766425>>154766493>>154766580you gotta be shitting methe "romance" in Cross Ange was horrible. how can you call that good? are you sub 80 IQ or what
>>154786398yooo did the director of this also do ACCA 13? I really like the art style

>>154794227I tried to get into the show, but it was generic as fuck to me. I'll try the manga i guess
>>154781385>>154781385>>154781385This is legit a great love story but it's /v/.
>>154791471>There's nothing special about this aside from the MC looking different.I'm not usually into shoujo so maybe I'm wrong, but I thought the main characters getting together at the start and the series being about their relationship as a couple was uncommon.
Midori No HibiI'm still mad best girl lost.
>call it a rec thread>gets deleted>rec thread stays upreally makes you think
>>154797333everyone knows rec threads have to be thinly veiled
>>154764791Lovely Complex, made sense because while the male lead felt weird about the height difference, he was mad alpha the whole show.
Romance without some sort of drama is tedious and not satisfactory
