I kind of expected something similar to this, but not quite the same. I kind of expected Agni's flames to be put out again once San was dead, then him and Judah to wander a bit through the ruins of the world and eventually become that big tree together, resetting the world with no people.

This is nice too, though.

Other way around for me, I liked first 4 volumes more, than the last 4, I think Doma's death was the point where manga took the wrong turn, even though I still enjoyed the ride.
>>
>>166449352
The point is killing Doma made no sense because the guy was a fucking mess not the average villain who keeps playing "I am a bad boy" for the sake of the MC. So his death lacked any meaning and that fucked up Agni.
>>
>>166449352
>>166449449
imo killing Doma was a great character moment. It's difficult to just look at the guy who killed your only family and destroyed your life and forgive him just because he's a good guy, watching agni break in two trying to resolve that inner tension was great
>>
Great manga, great ride. Looking forward to the author's next series.
>>

>>
>>166449449
>that fucked up Agni.
Nah, Agni was fucked up since the day he met Doma, but his death made Agni realize, that he wasn't any better than Doma he hated so much, and that he was neither hero nor saviour, just a Fire Punch.
>>166449586
That's how I justify this moment, yet still I hate the fact that along with Doma, Agni burned all of his students too, at this point I knew there is no way back anymore and manga will change tremendously.

The setting is a world filled with eternal snow created by the supposed Ice Witch where humans with super powers are called Blessed. The main protagonist is a man with regeneration powers that's been burned alive for most of his life by another man with pyrokinesis that burns everything until it dies. The main protagonist seeks this pyro who had burned his village over the premise of human cannibalism along with his sister who both had given their flesh willingly to their reluctant cannibalistic village. His journey starts by saving a boy from persecution from men who are similar to the pyro man.

One of my favorite points in this series is Togata's realization that Agni has been burning alive since his childhood

When she and the reader learn that mentally he is still very young and innocent, it really makes you pity him, and when Togata catches fire and talks about how Agni has been alive for years and years in this pain

When Agni convinces Judah (and himself) that she is Luna, he puts on that forced smile to show how desperate he is to be happy, how badly he knows that hes fucked in the head and that the only thing he can do is escape into his delusions

Truly a masterpiece and the most wild of rides, I'm going to bust ass to buy physical copies if this even though i never do, and I'll be paying close fucking attention for the next story

Sequence shortly after Agni destroys the tree and deludes himself into Brother role, just to realize he is not anyone's brother and he is still good old Fire Punch, but it's too late to back off and now he has to keep on playing Brother, while trying to kill himself every single day for 10 years straight, up to the point where he was set aflame again. Build up before was just right to make this situation work and I love it.

The author really know how to build up conflicts and end them. I like the point where he deluded himself so he can pretend to be happy and the everything fits together because "people can become whatever they want to believe in." He was someone's big brother, a vital part of their family and the Fire Punch they hate all at the same time. It only took someone outside their small household to imply the truth and it all went crashing down but their bond wasn't forgotten.

On top of it all, this all happens and ends spontaneously like fire. We never see the side characters ever again. Only Agni and Judah/Luna who have been there from the beginning have all changed the most all the way to the end.

Agni and Luna are in the afterlife.
Agni died a few chapters ago when Judah tore out his regen core.
The 'Agni' we see now is a blank slate clone who had been renamed San.
San and Judah, being perfect immortals, as well as the last the last remnants of life in the universe, now get to live together forever.
They can now repopulate the universe with their immortal, self sustaining kids

Well, Agni did. And considering earth didnt burn under hos feet it would seem nanomachines have some kind of regulations.
Also, I somewhat doubt that they transfer from parent to child entirely.

Alright, I have just finished reading the whole manga. Took me around 9 hours to read it, I gotta say I was hooked but I have to agree with this anon >>166449352. The first half of the manga was more enjoyable for me (The whole burning man concept/Togata/Post apocalyptic metropolis with "Fuel"/Crippled San being reduced to a Matrix battery.

It felt as though some plotlines ended up unresolved and there were some plotholes as well. What was the matter with the flying english speaking bikini woman and the naked "iron head" man? Was the story situated in Egypt? (They drove around a giant pyramid). What the hell were people eating (apart from Agni's half cut face) all the time? I can't count how many times the phrase "Canned food is running out" was used. The world felt really empty concerning backgrounds (All you could really see all the time was only snow/buildings and scarcely some trees) so how the hell there were communities sustaining their lives for many years? Fishing seemed like the only reliable option, was that supposed to be it? Anyways I could go on and on and it wasn't really the point of this manga. I have to say that the suffering levels were up to Guts' level if not more.

Overall a fantastic start, solid mid part, decent last chapters but the ending was bittersweet and left me sour. (I am starting to believe the stereotype that japanese mangaka can't end their thing properly, I am looking at you 20th Century Boys/Gantz)
>>
>>166509988
If it helps your understanding of the manga, I believe the mangaka was quoted as saying that his goal with the series was to change the tone, or something like that, every volume. Which is probably why some things felt kind of half baked, since the mangaka was rushing to change the status quo.
Although I definitely do agree that a lot of plot threads didn't deliver on their promises, which lead to the ending feeling a little hollow.
>>
>>166509988
>so how the hell there were communities sustaining their lives for many years? Fishing seemed like the only reliable option, was that supposed to be it?
In the first or second volume it shows that Behemdolg has greenhouse farms.

>It felt as though some plotlines ended up unresolved and there were some plotholes as well.
I agree. But honestly, even through I liked Agni's 'three disciples' I had a feeling that it wasn't suppose to go anywhere because by the end of it all, it never mattered. What did mattered was Agni and Luna which lead to many major events that had happened so everything else was a insignificant byproduct (Agni leading a religion, the whole concept of vengeance among the cast, movies and humanity on the verge of extinction). The importance of their relationship was the only thing that didn't change and that was consistent even to the end.

I really hate the fact that despite the consistency, the author threw away many great ideas and character concepts for the sake of it. It was a big waste, I would've like to see how many plotlines that he discarded would've grew. Agnism grew but not to the extent where the earlier questions like human cannibalism or forgiveness was played significantly, although that's not entirely true but definitely different from the way it was presented. Or the fact that Togata's gender issue went nowhere and turned out to be nothing more than a reason to create conflict between her and Agni. Lots of built up storylines that all grew into different directions that no one predicted.

>Agnism grew but not to the extent where the earlier questions like human cannibalism or forgiveness was played significantly, although that's not entirely true but definitely different from the way it was presented.
To clarify on this point; they talked about how Doma disagreed with solving the hunger issue with human flesh but it never mattered to their budding religious sect because they all died for the first Judah tree. Then it was only brought up again at pic related but very briefly unlike it's earlier conceptualization that tried to make it a big deal. The mangaka doesn't just abandon these ideas, he brings each one of them back to the table albeit in untimely manner and makes it's value differ from it's birth. He makes some references from earlier chapters like when Agni first formed a fist at the start of his journey and then when he saw his own starring movie, he formed a fist again as if his body remembered that it was a sign of a newfound determination. It's compelling how he puts it all together but brings each detail whether it was minor or major and recreates these moments into something entirely new.

Well. That was Agni. The same Agni whose body could no longer ingest food. Agni couldn't eat or sleep because he spent decades not eating or sleeping because of being on fire. Presumably, with his mind and body reset to prior states by Judah-Luna, he'd be fine. >>

What
>>
>>166440100
Fire Punch was a movie the whole time and Luna and San were watching their old selves before things restarted again.
>>
>>166470018
It used to be about punching things on fire.
Then a faggot got inside the plot and everything became weird.
>>
>Togata was right about the afterlife being a movie theatre

So is the ending the two of them watching their entire lives? Do you think they'll reincarnate afterwards?
>>
>>166536994
Anon, they're immortal and can't die.
>>
>>166537107
Then explain the theatre and what happens right before it
>>
>>166537107
>ending is the two of them going to "sleep" together and then winding up exactly where Togata theorized you would go when you die
It fits too well dude.
>>
>>166526864
This. Reading the untranslated I thought that only a few moonrunes wouldn't make a big difference, but damn son, they done it.
>>
>>166523403
>>166536994
Holy shit, I forgot that Togata ever said that. Puts a totally new spin on the scene where Judah explodes Agni's head and he meets Luna at a cinema.

Puts a twist on Judah and "San" at the end too. This is the most chill world apocalypse I ever read.

When people were dying, they were entering the cinema. This time they leave it, howbouthat.
But seriously it's most likely just a pretty metaphore for things coming to an end with an ongoing movie theme throughout the series and shit. I don't think Fujimoto being this hardass about the theatre meaning certain death.

>>166537208
I think they both just stopped clinging to last bits of conscience they had and went into eternal vegetative state. Doesn't sound so romantic, yeah, but when you're immortal, it's kinda contradictory if you die for no fucking reason because plot happened.
>>
>>166529520
Because he was the protagonist, I'd think
>>
>>166525104
Considering it's about a man on fire in a wasteland of snow, Biosphere would fit pretty well.
>>
>>166537208
>>166537107
The Agni in the movie theater was clearly the original Agni, whereas the Agni that was still alive was the Agni who Judah reset to a pure state

>>
>>166537208
I think the author showed the original Agni and Luna leaving the theater as a way to say the story has ended, it even looks like a credit roll from the end of a movie. It probably doesn’t have anything to do with Judah and Agni/San.
>>
>>166540715
I think the real message is that Fire punch is a box office flop.

It's fun to re-read knowing that Agni can't perfectly regen brain damage. The soldiers at Behemdolg were more effective than they thought.

Made me look again. Original Agni meets Luna at the theater when he dies in c80. They start watching a movie; cut to black. Then they both leave at >>166440100

I thought >>166440100 was "San" and Judah because I didn't check. But it's Agni and Luna. Weird. I guess they were in the afterlife watching the final chapters of the manga as a movie. That's the only explanation I have for the scene starting at c80 and continuing at >>166440100

>>
Now that I think about it, it turns out Agni wouldn't have died from that. Togata died for nothing
>>
How would you adapt Fire Punch as a 90 minute movie?
>>
>>166551371
I think it would be better as a trilogy
>>
>>166526176
Why do you assume Earth looked exactly as our Earth if the story starts in a distant future?
>>
>>166554907
It would take millions of years before the continents look significantly different from us, and by then the pyramids would have been eroded away.
>>
>>166537208
I don't think they died so much as ended up in a Kars situation where their brain simply shut down after an eternity
>>
>>166557106
Well they can choose not to live if they are in a situation that can kill them.
Agni could have just let his body burn to a crisp two separate times, but the goading of Luna then Togata made him reactivate his healing.

Could be San and Judah just decided not to force their powers, after all they were in the void of space
>>
>>166551371
As a recreation of the movie he watches in the theater at the end
>>
>>166552996
Two parts movies would be better. First part gives you some odd “movie moments” that make the viewer ask themselves what’s going on, then after the credits at the end of the movie we see Togata. Second movie starts with Togata.

>togata was interested in Agni because he was the main protagonist that she always wanted to be
That puts her motivations to a whole new plane. You can say that she was into Agni from the start because he was simply a guy on fire who was strong but she actually looks up to him as a role model.

Adapt as two feature length movies.

First one, "Fire Punch: Agni", ends on Fire Punch killing Doma and Togata as a Tarantino-esque revenge flick. It opens with Agni and Luna entering the theater and aftercredits is a sign saying intermission..

Second one, "Fire Punch: Sun" starts off with a Kino lonely snow walk reminiscing/recap of the first movie leading to the rest of the manga. Sun will get some more scenes to build up his presence as a secondary protag so the Sun twist is more relevant. Aftercredits is a star wars teaser.
>>
Haven't finished reading this yet since a while ago. Is Judah actually his sister or what
>>
>>166565741
Instead of "Agni", have it be "Luna" with it ending when Judah becomes "Luna". It'll then match with the second movie with Agni becoming "Sun".
>>
>>166565884
Nah. Ending it with the tree fucks the overall tone of the movie and story is about the Fire Punch. The climax of behelmdolg arc is Doma's death and the tree takes away from the punch of it so it's best to save it for later. The "ice witch" scene stays in the first one as a "hint" that Agni's not all there in the head.

Wish we had seen more of the spaer girl. Hell, I'd like to read a Fujimoto work that was just a straight action series.
