WSJ threw the axe, Bozebeats is now dead, who will be the next victim?

Jujutsu Kaisen vs Act-age vs Noah's Notes vs Ziga
>>

gyaru shit needs the axe
>>
Why would you care about any of these series unless you're under the age of 18? They are all garbage, who cares if they are successful or not. It won't have anything to do with you.

I see all of them axed except Noah's Notes who for the moment looks like is going to survive. Maybe Act-tage too, but it has been in shit for some weeks.

Shokugeki manga possibly ending could save one of them
>>
Jujutsu and Ziga are fucking awful, how did they even end up in the magazine?
>>
The only one who has any chance is Noah's Notes, the rest will die. Act-age will probably last 6-7 volumes though.
>>

nigga are you high? why would they end shokugeki when it still sells well?

I have to agree. Act-age might have less volumes or even more than 7.

Ziga is the most garbage WSJ has ever had, mangaka must be someone's bastard child.
Only act-age is surviving for 2 rounds.
>>
>>171502669
not that anon and I have no idea if what he said is true but writers get sick of working on the same thing sometimes, or they decide it's best to end on a highpoint
>>
>>171503162
Do any of these have translations past the viz chapters? How did a trainwreck like boze get translations?
>>
>>171503052
Giga is the best thing to appear in WSJ in years
>>
>>171503334
Boze got translations by LHT, which is literally worse than nothing.
Jujutsu and Ziga got nothing.
Some anons picked up act-age and did 2 chapters, they'll continue if it ranks well (it doesn't so far).
Jaimini's shit picked up Noah's Notes, but they're starting from the beginning.
>>
>>171503301
I'm not a Food Wars fag, but I know the manga has 3 people working on it so it can't be that simple to just drop it.

Act age and Gyaru are pretty good, not sure if they will stay that way but Jujutsu and Ziga gonna die first

How so? Do they make up translations or what?
>Some anons picked up act-age and did 2 chapters, they'll continue if it ranks well (it doesn't so far).
So this has 5 chapters with translations, if the manga doesn't get axed maybe they will do more
>Jaimini's shit picked up Noah's Notes, but they're starting from the beginning
They're pretty good, what made you hate them?
>>
>>171503820
>How so? Do they make up translations or what?
They just have some ESL sentences sometimes.
It's just entitled faggots hating on them.
>>
>>171503736
they only work on 3 chapters, they should work on 10 chapters in my opinion
>>
>>171503820
>How so? Do they make up translations or what?
Their raws are blurry public shitscans, their translations have errors, and their English sounds like ESL. They're not an English group, but a Vietnamese group, and they suck at both.
>They're pretty good, what made you hate them?
It's mainly how their scans are shit (most of the time? sometimes? I don't read enough of their series to know)

>>
Definitely all going to be axed. I'm going to miss Act Age though, it was some fun bullshit.
>>
>>171509687
In jump everything gets the axe eventually except the eyebrows cop series or OP.
>>
>>171509687
I wonder if they're all going to go. Can they afford to axe things for 2 years straight? They still haven't found a replacement for Saiki. I think they should wait and see which one has the most potential to grow.
>>
>>171509797
>the eyebrows cop series
It ended a while ago though.
>>
>>171509508
The thing I notice with all Jump Starts that tend to fail are dull/forgettable protagonists. Jujutsu's is about the worst but Ziga took basically the least interesting turn of all the latest entries. ActAge is going to live or die just based on the premise which is unusual for WSJ. I mean, a shounen version of Glass Mask?

Noah's Notes first few chapters really stuck in my head and I somehow like Mirai despite her role literally being tits and ass for Noah to explain stuff to. Noah is fun. I read all the available material for Ziga and Jujutsu Kaisen and I couldn't remember the names of either MCs with a gun to my head. That's not good, generally. Ziga just became instantly boring when the magic brainwaves and technobabble equipment and "Cast Iron Bitch" girl soldier showed up. Ziga had a shot at differentiating itself from the rest of the magazine by going for more of a survival/horror riff by being a shounen attempt at the "regular people try to survive a kaiju disaster" series, but went for a boring battle series. bleh.
>>
>>171509042
One solitary Gyaru butt scene, I feel cheated.
>>
>>171501422
Actage should be changed from magazine rather than be axed.
>>
>>171504224
Where did you found spoiler pics for Ziga?
>>
>>171509916
He retired though didn't he instead of the axe I thought?
>>
>>171510066
He voluntarily ended his series after a several decades run.

Then he literally went on to start working on something insane like 5+ other series if I recall? The dude is basically Tezuka.
>>
>>171510066
Yeah, he ended it himself. Not retired, he went to make more series or oneshots, can't remember.
>>
>>171510118
>>171510126
I meant retired the series
>>
Is there a new serialization round coming soon? Seems like Jump will go through all of 2018 without keeping a single new series.
>>
>>171509940
Noah's Notes did leave a positive impression for me, it's fun and the idea works really well. Ziga is horrible and Jujutsu really failed at creating main characters that had an ounce of personality. I hope Actage survives for some time, what's the point of axing it when we constantly get new garbage like Jujutsu and Ziga every new round.
>>
>>171509940
The forgettable thing applies to most aspects really. The most popular titles, old or new, are all memorable in some way.

Hopefully Ziga and Jujutsu will get axed. Both of them were so painfully boring and moronic, especially Ziga.

I'd like to see Act-Age last as long as Spring Weapon did roughly, and Noah's Notes should survive longer than that.

Not really. It was about a guy who can see people's "souls" by playing whatever instrument it was he played, and in doing so could make them happy again or whatever. Hungry Joker had a cool premise and solid art, but was ruined by terrible pacing and bland characters. Noah's Notes is giving me similar vibes, but at the very least the professor knows his shit and the gyaru is cute so there's hope for the characters
>>
The only thing about Noah's Notes that is sort of a fuckup to me is the reveal of Mirai writing her book from a presumably ruined future.

It's kinda giving away some potentially really obvious twists. If we make it far enough I guarantee we'll see something like any of the following:

1. Since everything happens the same in the loops, the people are all the same too. So there's past loop versions of Mirai, Noah, etc. There'll be some big scene where they find their own remains, and the version of Mirai you see in the opening is actually her previous loop self writing her book which they then find.

So this dovetails back into Mirai not caring about history- her past loop goes on the same adventures with Noah, learns to love history, maybe falls for Noah, writes her book possibly after somehow not being "raptured" like the rest of humanity. Mirai's history book ends up saving the second loop. It's like pottery

2. Noah or Mirai are "mortally" (in anime terms which never sticks) wounded and dying and other openly says they don't know if they want to stop the next loop anymore because they want to "meet [the dying character] again", to which the "dying" person snarkily tells them that it's ridiculous and they need to save everyone.

That's the main character from the One-Shot. The manga got axed because they ruined everything with the gay shota main character.

Don't. The manga is nothing like that.

It's worse than Jujutsu and Ziga and those are bad.

There's an unofficial three-strike rule that often gets talked about in interviews.

Basically, the editorial department gives up on creators who can't deliver by their third attempt.
>>
>>171501422
BokuBen needs the axe, Nisekoi was a mistake.
>>
>>171520786
>The manga got axed because they ruined everything with the gay shota main character.

This, the character was so androgynous looking that even when he was fully nude I couldn't tell if he was male. He had bumpy chest and female curves.
>>
>>171501422
Ziga is so dead
I can feel it.
>>
>>171520498
Everyone always says that but from what I've seen, it's not popular with fujos. It must be golf fans or regular sports manga fans buying it.

>>
>>171521014
Jujustu has a cast of literal nobodies trapped in a no-plot limbo and Ziga is just childish tripe. Bozebeats had massive firepower, demon possessions, and feral children with spirit energy that could power a city. WSJ has literally lost sight of what its readers desire.
>>
>>171521090
Didnt kimetsu is not axed because its recomended by togashi and its part of jump push group
>>
>>171521125
Aren't there plenty of those? I know of Berserk and Witch Hat Atelier but I'm sure there's more. Isekai for instance are typically fairly RPG fiction like from what I generally see.
>>

>>

Are they just reading it and fangirling about to themselves? When a series is popular with fujoshi we always know because they're never secretive about it.
>>

Then don't claim it as a fact.

>>
>>171521552
But how do you know it's fujoshi who are buying it? Do you have any demographic stats? Amazon reviews? Maybe a picture of a store display where RXB is clearly being marketed towards women? Anything that would give us an idea on who is buying it. Not just "the mangaka's previous work was a fujo hit so this must be too."
>>
>>171521681
That would be glorious. I wanted to say the same thing for Kubo but he's definitely done with weekly manga.
>>
>>171521829
Kubo despises Jump Editorial too, so if he ever works again he'll probably go with a different publisher or even not do a regular manga.

Kishimoto coming back and getting axed would own incredibly hard. I think he mentioned he might be back at some point the next year or two as well.
>>
>>171501422
Wait, they really axed Bozebeats? Wasn't that the best of the 4?

I would think that actual golf fans would hate it for being unrealistic, like how tennis fans hate PoT.

>>

>>
>>171523018
I mean, it was but who was traditional fujo bait on the Devilbats outside of Sena? I know they liked Hiruma a lot too but he wasn't really classic fujo material.
>>
>>171522867
How about we have your traditional hype sports series but the main cast is female?
>>
>>171523107
Shes clearly a hack, look how bad eldlive is
>>
>>171523150
Then it won't survive in Jump unless you make it ecchi.
>>
>>171523107
Katekyo Hitman REBORN! ended in 2012. That same year she did the character designs for Psycho-Pass. In late 2013 she published a oneshot in Miracle Jump about an eccentric detective and his assistant that was actually pretty good, but it wasn't picked up. Then did some special art depicting a future Vongola boss for the special Jump VS issue. Followed by aforementioned dream buster oneshot. Eventually she did eldLIVE for the Jump mobile app, which was apparently popular enough to get an anime even though it isn't that good.
>>
>>171522867
But fujos eat up anything with a majority male cast even if the designs are ugly. See: Kaiji, Inazuma Eleven, Osomatsu-san etc. Giant Killing had a fujoshi fanbase and those guys weren't traditionally attractive.
Mangaka aren't intentionally baiting fujoshi. They don't even have to do anything other than having male characters to get fujos salivating over their sports manga.

Yeah, eldLIVE which is exclusive to the app ala ishoujo. It's pretty crappy and has been going for like 5 years, but is supposed to end by fall iirc. I have no idea how it even got an anime. Amano has great art, but she is not a good writer

I'm not saying the set-up was perfect, but the potential was very much there and by the end it showed the over-the-top insanity it was always capable of

It was way beyond adults vs teens since it literally had eugenics shit right from the beginning which is what separated the MC and the girl he was going to marry, it was government vs. people who had not yet been culled which happened to be teens because no adult would have lived long enough and still had a passion

WSJ needs more mangas that can help the magazine sell a lot, like the old "Big 3", plus in the past few years, One Piece popularity decreased a bit, including sales of the manga and merchandising. WSJ know they can't just rely on one title so they need to push some of the mangas they have.
So far they are pushing BnHA because its quite popular and its selling quite a lot and Black Clover because even with how blatant it is, it sold decently.

Of the current crop of new titles, the acting one is probably the best of the stragglers, but none of them feel particularly promising or untouchable to me. Ziga in particular, and maybe Noah, feel especially disposable.

It wouldn't have been axed in another magazine but the author keeps trying over and over to get published in Jump for years now and I just don't get his thought process.

You have a point. I forgot to put something in my posts.
>>
>>171540897
BokuBen and Yuuna are both harems(also both on the heels of Nisekoi) which is why they're successful.

Cross Account was more of a straightforward Love Triangle(but barely since one of the chicks was the obvious childhood friend loser) so it was ill-suited either way.
>>
>>171541050
BokuBen and Yuuna are still romance manga and I don't think WSJ have had more than 2 dedicated romantic series running at the same time, at least not in this decade.
>>
>>171540940
Well there's no shortage of manga magazines anyways. Cross Account could work bi-weekly too...but monthly would probably be too slow.
>>
>>171541105
The only other successful romance jump manga that I can think of is Ichigo 100% which was also a Harem.
If it's not a light-hearted harem it has no chance in in Jump.
>>
>>171541109
To be fair there are only 4 weekly shounen mags and the rest is monthly, bi-monthly or quaterly. Can't think of bi-weekly shounen mag yet.
>>
>>171541216
Finally found the name of the only bi-weekly shounen mag called Shonen Big Comic, sadly it got rebranded as Weekly Young Sunday which got discontinued in 2008.
>>
>>171501422
I just noticed that one year has passed since the big hyped up six new manga startup. Has there seriously not been one interesting new manga since then? I don't stay up to date with new jump manga. Are any of these decent?

Yeah desperate for the next bleach.
All those "getting the axe" manga get into their main plot way too fast.
Bozo beats and golem farts had the same issue.
Red shite was the worst of them all.
Like they treat their manga as if they were already popular properties that everyone cant get enough of. They dont leave any time for the characters to grow on people first.

I don't know what these authors were thinking in this most recent round.
>gag series ending
>gag manga is a genre that Jump is lacking in at the moment
>let's make more battle shonen instead
>>
>>171546951
i think they submit ideas for manga months in advance, maybe next round we will see new gag manga
>>
>>171546951
You see, gag manga is the cream of the crop of WSJ next to battle actions and sport dramas and people somehow underestimate them. Just look at Kochikame and Gintama: they're very popular in Japan and in some parts of the world, sadly they are overlooked in the west side of Atlantic because of the ubiquituous misconception that all shounen are battle manga.
>>
>>171547234
Spring Weapon too. That one somehow escaped the axe more times than it really should have. Hell it somehow lasted over a year and even got a popularity poll. Promised Neverland didn't even get one and it lasted longer.
>>
>>171546499
It wasn’t, so it only deserves 12 chapters of monster punching if it doesn’t shape up.
>>
>>171537413
Disappointing. I don't like manga that comes up with those scenes without proper setup (which I sadly foresee before the manga debuted) and I'm looking forward to it only because I wanted to be a manga version of Godzilla where the protagonist has to survive shooting things or something, not some dumb SnK clone.

Not sure if other mangazine is better. Jump goes full battle shounen, while Magazine tries their luck with romcom. I think Sunday has the most balance tittles right now, from sport, romcom, comedy, fantasy to battle shounen. Yet, I find mlMagazine has the most manga that appeal to me right now, if only they has dedicated weekly translation like Jump.

They have a new EIC and hes less retarded. I think he even admitted the magazine was run like shit in the past. He is trying to mimic Jump, since Sunday had 6 manga start last year but they all failed to gain traction, 3 are already axed and the out of the remaining 3 only one can sell 15k per volume. There are a lot of new serialization rounds happening in Sunday lately.
>>
>>171555671

>>
You can pretty much tell a doomed series just by the art.

Only exception was Black Clover.
>>
>>171555858
>>171556034
Shame about that.
Right now I am reading 6 series from Sunday with only 3 got translated up to date, 7 from Magazine with 4 up to date translation, 8 from Jump which only has act-age is behind in translation. I think they all have great quality tittle and the bottom dwellers one are just minority due to inexperienced (which magazine doesn't face thank to its stealing veteran strategy).
Sunday and Magazine are really behind in marketing, as I can see here a new series like act-age got more discussion than a series with 4 volumes and a taishou award nomination like runway de waratte (the fact that merakiscans priority senryu shoujo over runway baffled me).
And runway is a really good manga, which prove that shounen manga doesn't always need to deal with manly topic, which in some way, give me hope for act-age survivability.

There's a good balance of mystery manga in both manga (particularly Magazine), a shame WSJ doesn't have it.
>>
I can see Noah's Notes surviving but Ziga is getting the axe for sure. Haven't read the first two so I can't say about those
>>
>>171556919
>runway de waratte
My nigga.
Sunday, Magazine and Jump all have really good manga right now, it's a shame people on here don't really give a fuck about anything outside of Jump manga. For now Act-age doesn't seem to be getting axed in 16 chapters, so it will be around for a while longer.
Magazine isn't doing that bad, most of their new manga are growing in sales and sell over 40-50k per volume. Sunday are struggling, the last time they had a new manga that managed to even reach 50k or more for new volume sales was Maoujou de oyasumi, and that made its debut two years ago. Their newest manga that sells a little better is Hoankan Evans no Uso and that barely reaches 15k for new volumes, everything else that started after 2017 can't even reach 5-10k and they have 3-4 manga from 2014-2015 that also barely sell 10-12k.
Magazine and Kodansha constantly poach manga authors from other magazines, while Sunday constantly lose their big authors, the most recent example is Kodansha stealing the manga author behind Magi. Sunday need to learn how to advertise or they'll become irrelevant.
>>
>>171557852
Sheriff Evans is doing that bad!?
Wow, sunday is in a really shitty situation. Guess they need to ramp up their marketing department. They don't even have a dedicated Western publisher like viz or kodansha usa.
>>
>>171556769
Sort of. As mentioned earlier the MC is on the set of a survival game thing and she's starting to panic because despite it being acting it looks realistic.
>>
>>171558121
>Sheriff Evans is doing that bad!?
I don't know if it's funny or sad that it's the one that is doing the best from the 6 new manga round.
Right now Sunday only have 4-5 manga that consistently sell over 100k or much more than that. I wonder if they can do anything to save themselves.

>>
>>171559307
Jesus that hurts. I see it ranking highly in the magazine but they really should jump on that train already. Unless Tanabe is the one holding out after what happened with Kekkaishi
>>
>>171559402
>Unless Tanabe is the one holding out after what happened with Kekkaishi
What happened? I never watched the anime for it. She shouldn't have any reasons to refuse an anime since it promotes her work. Maybe it's taking longer since the manga is monthly.
>>
>>171501422

They'll all get cancelled. Knowing my shit taste; im wrong.

Kaijen and Noah will prob stay; others won't last.

Jump Probably should get a series with a comical funny fujoshi lead with cute boys to appeal to fujoshi fan base to actually make more money on shounen aimed towards them AND kids/teens/college kids, young adults; etc. Like a Gintoki heroine MC that's comical cool cute hot and hilariously funny. But the series is actually funny and points out actual real true issues.

I think you're misunderstanding why fujoshi like Shounen Jump. They don't want a series catered to them. For that they would just read BL or shoujo. They want hot blooded stories where boys bond with each other and become close. Shounen manga already appeals to them without having to go out of its way to intentionally do it.
