In mspaint, in marker, in CSP - whatever you want, it doesn't matter. Just draw your waifu or husbando.

I can't believe that Japs draw like this on average. So flat. Somehow they make it work but it's the exact opposite of how western artists are taught to draw.
>>
>>174224538
I'm reading the entire "How to draw manga-style series" and it's been extremely fun and rewarding. On the other hand, though I still got something from those books, reading Loomis, Hamptom's and other western authors books was a huge chore.
Japanese style really is for me.

Ok, holy shit.
I'm still drawing my husbando in MS paint but I was cleaning a cupboard full of my old homework sheets, notebooks etc. from school and I found an old drawing I made of my husbando back when I was 14 or 15.
I found it in my phisics notes, pretty sure I was drawing him in class and that this unfunny concept was an idea that my friend made. We thought it was so fucking clever back then.
Also the lightting is shit, I know.

I always thought the point of these threads was to draw something on the spot, that way when the next thread happens we can try something different and see how far we've come from the last. Holding onto the past isn't as fun as knowing we're all drawing at the same time. Feedback feels better too when you know it's the current you who got it.

So, I can ask this question in the drawthread but might as well ask it here.
If I want to make high quality digital drawings with all those effects Japanese artists use, do I need an expensive high tech tablet or any generic tablet would do?
The important thing is the programs you use like Sai and Photoshop as well as your skills as an artist and knowledge of those programs, not the tablet itself, right?
>>
>>174242675
Program matters more than the tablet, yeah.
>>
I just don't know...I like a lot of ladies. But I can't say I have a "waifu". Most of my favorite girls have a guy and I usually prefer them as a couple anyway.
>>
>>174242675
You'll want to learn how to use Clip Studio Paint because that's what most nip artists use now.
>>
>>174242675
Clip Studio Paint + medium/large tablet
>>
>>174242363
I think I will. But now my question is if any generic tablet will do.

>>174242719
But will the quality of the tablet influence the quality of the digital drawings I will be able to produce? I wonder if all those great Japanese artists use high tech tablets.

>>174242767
>>174242776
Is that expensive? Some of the pixiv artists I follow use Sai and Photoshop, according to their profile.
>>
>>174242823
>expensive

>>
>>174242823
I don't think it does much, although I'm not an expert. At most the size will make it easier to work.

You dont stay long enough to get around /ic/ culture. Like /a/, it has its own rule and norm that works effectively when you get used to it. People ask the same questions on /ic/ over and over again, as of result, /ic/ shitters will attack any newfags coming thru. /ic/ is like a double edge sword, cynical-ism is pretty tame there, while the actual helpfulness of the board only exist when it try not to, which is rare.

You don't need to anon, this is always the dumbest excuse to not draw, there's plenty of tricks and cheats you can use to get around stuff like that
Look through this thread at all the drawings in different styles and levels of skill. I guarantee that over half the people in this thread think their own drawings suck, even some of the best ones, but everyone's waifu and husbando is just as cute because they tried, it's not your inability to draw a straight line that's keeping you from drawing, it's your inability to try.

Who? That's the fundamental excercises for developing your drawing skills. You might also want to check out stuff by Scott Robertson on condtruction. +everything on youtube on construction, shapes, lines and perspective. If the thumb shows some basic lines or shapes looking really cool, you should probably check it out.
>>
>>174253178
Forget those fools. The easiest way to learn to draw is to trace. Trace about a dozen or two pictures. There's no shame in tracing when you've never drawn before. That should help teach you some basic line and curve drawing skills. Then move onto reference drawing. Put a picture to the side and copy it on a blank page. Keep reference drawing for a few weeks. Reference draw dozens, even a hundred or two pictures. You'll develop some skill and your own personal technique over time. Then you can start drawing with your imagination. It's still just reference drawing but with your mind. Practice.

I agree with this, I've gotten a lot better at drawing after tracing for a couple of weeks, the key is to get comfortable with drawing the lines and shapes consistently.
You can also try just tracing the basic outline and adding the details yourself, try turning it into a different character or changing the clothes or hairstyle or facial expression
>>
>>174253507
>It's all angles and calculating curves.
That's an impractical aproach to drawing. You can be using 3d software and your stuff will still suck, even though everything is calculated perfectly.
>>
>>174253556
Isn't that how you draw? Learn to produce shapes correctly and do the calculations for perspective?
>>
>>174253543
>You can also try just tracing the basic outline and adding the details yourself, try turning it into a different character or changing the clothes or hairstyle or facial expression
This definitely. I've drawn about a dozen frames for those /a/ draws the OP projects we did last year. Not only did it really boost my own skill at drawing, but it was alot of fun.
>>
>>174253411
Don't listen to this baka - the only way to teach yourself to draw is to lock yourself in a pitch black room with a ream of paper and a selection of pencils, and draw exactly one hundred pictures of you're waifu using only your imagination and your sense of touch, and then give them to all your friends and relatives to critique. When they've all finished laughing at you, go and do exactly the same again, but this time, switch the lights on. Hey presto: drawing is suddenly nowhere near as hard as you thought it was.

That's the same as saying that singing is just hitting the right notes at the right time. Techincally true, but as an aproach to learning is almost useless.

You probablly suck at teaching yourself how to draw because you're trying to turn yourself into a calculator for lines. That's a tedious and retarded way to spend your time. This is not a race, this is a soul-murdering marathon. If you'll try to brutforce it, you'll burn out immediately, just like you did. If you really want to learn how to draw, start drawing shit you enjoy, and a lot of it. No matter what it is.

I.e. in the past I enjoyed painting and cool colors a lot, so I have a ton of shit with different weird color schemes, some tables with calculated colors and so on. Not because I wanted to be a calculator for colors, but because I've got ecited by the idea. Most of that shit I haven't even finished, because at that moment I lacked the skills, but I had a lot of fun with it, so I manahed to keep going. Now I switched from colors to lines, construction and manga-like stuff. And it's still kinda fun. Mind you, I'm 10 years in. I've spent 10 years without producing enough shit I would even consider that good, but I've had fun and just the mileage made me a little bit better with every dumb pic.

Everyone else suck balls and acts like salty crabs in /ic/. If you're not in a school and lack discipline, you do what's fun as much as you need it. Then you can do the excercises and grind the fundamentals. Then, again, you return to the fun things. That's how you keep your spirits up even when you suck.

Sure, you might lack some important skills in the future if you do it like that, but if you don't want to lack those skills, you should go to an art school. You do the fun things, and suddenly you end up with some skill developed real well, even if you lack something elese. I.e. my construction kinda sucks, but because of my love for colors I can bullshit a palette for a picture on the spot without the need of thinking too hard about it. And I still get my other skills developed just because you can't make a picture by only using colors, so I pick up some stuff even without thinking about it.

tl;dr: do the stuff that motivates you to keep going and only after that grind the core skills

im not much of an artist but my mum is a professional artist who went to art school etc, and heres a tip for you: fundamentals are useful, but the core of all art is literally just practice. Do some sketching every day if you can, it doesn't matter if its good or not. Just keep practicing. Eventually you will start to notice parts of your work that dont look right, or where your having issues, and then you'll turn to the fundamentals and they'll ACTUALLY MEAN SOMETHING because you have the experience to know what they're for. Then you sketch and put them into practice, rinse and repeat.

Who in the world taught you this bullshit? Making things harder than they need to be won't make you draw better. You can CHALLENGE yourself to do soemthing complex, but that's a completely different matter. Like, you can improve at running by making the distance longer or trying to run faster, but just breaking your legs or puting nails in your shoes isn't a way to improve. In fact, it only stops you from learning how to run.

>>

I really like your minimalist style of painting, it looks close to mine.
>>
>>174257614
From my pov I think it'd help you if you can figure out how you want to draw (digital, pencils, ink/ markers).
Additionally, flooding your brain with advices will lead to contradictions; having the opinion and advice of others is alwys a nice starting point but some stuff you'll have to figure out for yourself.
Good luck, anon!
>>
>>174257683
That you can just practice doodling, and then go back and try to see what's wrong, but you also need to study in a certain way to see any improvement, but you also should try your fundamentals and tracing before any of that, and also if you don't do it the right way you're wasting your time, and also you can start on whatever you want to start on and also you have to figure it all out by yourself, and that site or book everyone said is good is also shit,

This, if they can't be bothered to put in more effort on their waifus no less, then they don't deserve a spot. It's like the funko pop debate.
>>
>>174259844
Renaissance artists used to be forced to copy their teacher's art until they could paint an exact replica, that's where we get master studies from. Drawing is a culmination of thousands of years of progress from all humans, so copying your favorite artists is definitely a good way to improve. The /ic/ way might be the fastest, but if you're not having fun, you won't be able to do it. Take it easy and draw anime girls.

>>174259844
Technically this is right but at the sametime not, you got this from that one video and we discussed it many time on our board. This method is used widely in the Japanese art community but that does mean they ignore fundies, they do apply basic loomis and hampton stuff before they start coping. But unlike how we apply them, Japanese have different system of their own after loomis. Copying is one of them, and they have a wider community that help teach them to draw anime style, while the none that resource almost doesnt exist here in the west, Even if does it's really niche, and no one have a clear concept to approach it. Those who do, tend to keep it to themselves.
>>

Usually many of those how-to anime books are for those who want to draw for fun which is it nothing wrong with it, they derive the teaching from western fundeis anyway. However, those who are seeking for a advance foundations, they tries to approach western teaching then apply it to Anime art. Take this Twitter for example, it's basically made to prove that anyone is capable of drawing by consistence practice and study smart. It's one of the head community that teach nip to draw. https://twitter.com/hakubi8888
