Unironically name one better director.
>>
>>175468476
Miyazaki. Tomino always cited Miyazaki as an inspiration and when created Minovsky Particles he was thinking about Miyazaki's approach to animation and general advices.
>>
>>175468756
Tomino looking up to Miyazaki doesn't mean Tomino didn't surpass him.

Eh, as much as I actually like Tomino, he's too rough, too on the nose. Sometimes it really works, sometimes it's what the fuck am I even watching.

You are a retard if you can't see his talent and influence, but you also shouldn't oversell him. Hell, he's like 60% of EVA, rest are Anno's bio-garbage spin on it and "stop watching anime". Even he admitted he hasn't made a single decent thing since 00's.
>>
>>175468476
Stanley Kubrick.
>>
>>175469025
Well I was mostly referring to Tomino's older stuff. I don't think it's an issue if a director runs out of ideas. Miyazaki kind of fell off over time. The reason I like Tomino is I feel like he was able do really good work while being held into a specific genre.

>>
>>175469155
The reason I like Tomino is just how much crap of high quality he managed to shit out.

While Miyazaki did work on shows like Lupin III and Future Boy Conan, he became mainly movie guy afterwards.

Tomino worked on motherfucking Ashita no Joe, worked on before mentioned Future Boy Conan with Miyazaki and also Anne of Green Gables with Takahata Isao, created Gundam and effectively became a father to Real Robot just after nailing Super Robot with Zanbot III, made Gundam movies and sold shit ton of toys and finally got to turn Gundam into powerhouse it is to this day with Zeta. I think he jumped all over the place for a while, but you can't say he didn't try new things, even though I don't like Victory Gundam a lot, for an early 90's show it looks a lot like how shows would look like just a decade later and minimal shading approach would become more welcome overtime and the scale of battles it shown was pretty impressive for a TV show. But it was worth it just to see Turn A Gundam, his swan song imo.

If nothing else, G-Reco did give us this beautiful moment.

G-Reco was messy and hard to follow but it wasn't all bad. Just about every Gundam there is has some serious fucking flaws in it, and I say that as a huge Gundam fan. G-Reco was simply one of the more flawed ones.

hilariously enough this is true. kawamori directed every single macross worth a damn, and the one he didnt direct (macross 7) was the worst in franchise history. meanwhile tomino didnt have any success as a director after the original UC storyline ended. it was based hirai who made SEED sell 90k copies per volume and helped gundam stay relevant!

turn a was a) far from being a financial success and b) shunned by the japanese for the first 10+ years of its existence. it had the status of g-reco until just recently. thats something that can be observed in every single popularity poll. still confued what caused this 180.

Noburu Ishiguro directed the original Macross. Kawamori was a concept creator and mecha designer for both the original and 7.

m8 everyone that worked on G-reco treated that shit like it was a damn training camp. I wish I could find the interviews from EVERYONE saying that everything they submitted constantly came back with loads of stuff in red pen being like "no think more like this!" etc, and how he spent time de-training the "typical anime habbits" out of the voice actors.

And G reco was fucking beautiful. The movement was so good, so expressive, the art was great, it just suffered from being scattershot with it's plot really.
>>
>>175489052
People finally got over the moustache. That's literally all it is. The Japanese were outright saying "oh the story is the best!" for 10 years, but people would say they just weren't going to watch it because of the Gundam.

A) 0079 doesn't have bad animation. End this fucking meme. It has conistent motion of everything in its world and full scenes of impressive mechanical and action animation every single episode. It has above average animation quality for any era of anime.
B) The director's job is to direct the production. To make sure everything is organised and working to the best of its potential. If the production is faulty and the animation quality lacks, then that's more the director's fault than anyone else's.
>>
>>175474249
Steins;Gate is the single best VN adaptation because he brought that same strong sense of atmosphere, so it doesn't feel as flat and indistinct as every other VN adaptation ever.
>>
>>175496456
why do you hate 7 so much you'd compare it favourably to Delta?
>>
>>175468476
Imagawa
>>
>>175496622
theres literally nothing about 7 that even warrants its existence. the animation is dogshit by macross standards and probably consists of 40% stock footage. the acoustic direction is lackluster as hell, and by that i dont mean the music but the way the songs are being woven into the animation. the characters and overarching narrative are extremely shallow and aimless, even by macross standards. the show might improve by the time the final quarter rolls around, but that certainly doesnt improve the first 3/4ths. only the production committee knows why this series, which has less actual substance to both plot and characters, is the one that received 50episodes. both frontier and delta had a more convoluted narrative that could have made better use of the amount of time that 7 got. the show also has some of the most incompetent directing ive ever seen. for some reason they had like a dozen different animation directors, most of whom worked on no more than a handful of episodes.
>>
>>175474249
He actually managed to create a good VN adaption. That's impressive.
>>
>>175496875
I kinda think that weirdness is what gives it a lot of it's camp value though personally. It's so weird and off beat while throwing out 80s hair rock, the stories of the episodes can be downright weird from an episode about newspapers pretending Basara and Gamlin are in a gay relationship to Basara singing aliens to orgasm. If it wasn't so out there it would be trash, but it is so out there. A leaf flies in Basaras face, and he just eats it, why? it's that shit that really encapsulates why M7 is good, in a very strange way to me.
