In which Doppo gets his fucking face BTFO and Retsu becomes the best babysitter in 4000 years of chinese martial arts.

What happened to Dorian? I heard that he works at a restaurant now?
>>
>>177977568
Don't know but both Dorian and Yanagi are confirmed to be still alive after this arc.
>>
>>177977568

Read the manga, plebs.
Also, who tf told you a 400 pound potato works at a restaurant? He appears in the Kaioh tournament later on but is too retarded to fight properly
>>
>>177978516
It was just Itagaki's plan to hype Oliva.
Nobody really knows what happened to Dorian after that though.
>>
>>177976492
Should I watch this without watching previous anime? I've read ~150 manga chapters though.
>>
>>177978644
We'll probably get a hint or a few panels that offer some closure to his situation. Itagaki doesn't leave stuff in the air permanently. I like that about his style
>>
>>177978695
it's fine to watch. They'll reference times they fought between cast members but that's bout it
>>
>>177978695
Watch/read the whole thing. Trust me, it'll make the whole experience better. Don't look down on the other seasons
>>
>>177978037
Ain't Yujiro kicked Yanagi's head off?
>>
>>177978829
Just busted his lower jaw, he's still alive in prison.
>>

>We'll probably get a hint or a few panels that offer some closure to his situation.
Don't think so, the only people from the Kaioh tournament that are still there are Kaku and Jyaku Kaioh, and Jyaku only made just a simple cameo lately in the manga.
Plenty of characters just disappeared once their roles were over and done with, remember Che? Itagaki doesn't.

Wouldn't be more ridiculous than the head yakuza bringing Speck back in after a street fight. The convicts were too powerful to be contained and the "police" as you called them would take what they can get just to get them back into custody. That's the whole point
>>
Will the Shinogi brothers EVER do anything again?
>>
>>177980818
Tokugawa is a lot more influential than you'd think, besides, the police can close an eye on it since they brought down an extremely dangerous felon, if they can close an eye on Oliva's ways of "catching" criminals they can do the same with Tokugawa.

Kureha is the resident doctor of the team and the one who personally patches up and constantly buffs Jack, so he's doing quite a lot.
>>

Kureha is responsible for the repeaged height augment surgery?
>>
>>177982014
Yeah, they first bring it up during Pickle's arc iirc, Kureha takes Jack under his wing after the Maxim Tournament and he's the one who made him eat decently, gave him new teeth every time and made him a manlet destroyer.

Well, Sikorsky did have an element of surprise to him and his knuckle rippers are pretty unique.

Most people tend to forget that while Itagaki does love making people job to bullshit there's also the fact that he always emphasizes how preparation and knowing your enemy is also important, it's also why Doyle managed to survive his first fight with Oliva, whereas in another scenario he would have been fucking destroyed.

>>
>>177987910
Retsu hit him both physically and metaphysically with some big fucking truth pill and Dorian couldn't deal with it.
>>177988818
Oliva was just there to not make Dorian look like a complete potato, he then catches to opportunity to humiliate a few Kaioh for shit and giggles due to his own position and for making Yuujiro laugh.
>>

>>

Retsu was considered the strongest Kaioh of his time, but Kaku is a thing, and Retsu is also dead sooo...
>It seems like they just give the kaioh title to anyone.
Nah, the Kaioh are strong, Retsu and Kaku alone are definitely above most of the Baki cast, the problem is they had to deal with not just Baki, but Yuujiro and Oliva on the same team, and also Ali Jr. at his top Gary Stu level.

Sure, but they're gonna clone Sukune.

Well, most people end up like that, the only ones who push through it are the main cast of superhuman monsters, and even there Retsu was still heavily handicapped after losing his leg to Pickle, Katsumi is pretty muc useless now, not to mention people like Kato.

Think, Dorian wanted to get his ass kicked once in his life. But in search of that 1 lost, he beat everyone he came across, thus, he still lost because he wanted to lose.
That truth that Retsu gave him made him finally crack. Knowing that truth, he basically lost all will/ego. Becoming a child again.
Remember that story they told about the teasure hunter that rapidly aged and died? Same thing happen, just Dorian never found his "teasure" but the hard truth.

It has to be better than Dou. Itagaki's tacitly acknowledged his mistakes with it, so there's no chance of it being another 'what if everybody lined up to fight the same person' situation.

One key indicator that the fifth series is going to be different: everybody from Baki to Jyaku is invited to see Musashi's body, but Tokugawa only invites Baki to see Sukune's diamond.

Of course,
But seriously speaking, considering the shit Motobe pulled in Dou I wouldn't be surprised if he actually would kind of put up a decent fight, as much as you can do that on Yuujiro since he's invincible anyway.
Keep in mind this is the man that trolled Yuujiro to the point of making him cry not once but thrice and got away with it unscathed, and also the man that served humble pie to both Baki and Memesashi.

Not like it matters since Motobe had his run now and won't be relevant ever again, but Itagaki pretty much showed what he's able to do and it's really not that bad, even Yuujiro has a certain respect for Motobe despite everything, remember that even when Musashi himself observed that Motobe was strong Yuujiro didn't correct him and instead paused assertively.

Every time Itagaki writes a philosophical point to his arcs, it's both Mildly interesting and insanely retarded. Of course if you don't accept you lost you won't admit defeat, but when these guys are getting BTFO by multiple consecutive people and they are still like "I didn't lose yet" then it becomes a parody because of how hard the denial is. But it's still not as dumb as being declared the strongest creature alive because your dad added too much imaginary salt to a dish.

This is still the same Yuujiro who got tranquilized.

Nah, Memetobe is. Musashi isn't worse than Pickle.
>>
>>177995983
>Musashi is the worst thing that has ever happened to Baki.
How?
>>
>>177996304
>I felt it should've ended afterMemetobe's fight.
It kinda did. Motobe defeating Musashi was total shit, Itagaki wrote himself into a corner and had to abort the arc.
And in the end, it would have changed nothing at all if Musashi had beat Motobe. That's the most hilarious thing.
>>
>>177996688
Of course it does, but haters are just obsessed with Musashi being a Mary Sue when Pickle and Oliva were FAR worse in that regard.

Musashi lost to:
>Yuujiro
>Baki
>Motobe
Musashi had problems with:
>Pickle
>Gouki
>Retsu

Pickle lost to:
>Baki
Pickle had problems with
>No one

Oliva lost to:
>Baki
>Yuujiro
Oliva had problems with:
>Maybe Doyle
>Che Guevara
>>
>>178018677
Either way I think it's meaningless to argue whether he stopped an Earthquake or not, I think the point was to showcase Yujiro's power is his ego and his ego is his power.
>>
>>178001761
They're wrong. Retsu hit him in a vital point (philtrum), which basically made him retarded.

Fun fact: Mas Oyama, the founder of Kyokushin Karate, the guy Doppo is based on, once killed a guy with the same strike.

This next volume is dedicated to some personal friends of mine, the TMPD . For every cop that has ever taken advantage of somebody, beat 'em down or hurt 'em, because they got long hair, listen to the wrong kinda music, wrong color, whatever they thought was the reason to do it. For every one of those fuckin' police, I'd like to take a pig out here in this parkin' lot and stab 'em in their mothafuckin' face.

According to Baki-Dou, he totally does. In fact, he might be stronger than Yuujiro when both go all out:
>Defeats Musashi, which Yuujiro couldn't do
>Fast enough to sneak up on Yuujiro and Musashi, THEN jumping in between them to tank a hit
>Just gets knocked out by a hit he deemed dangerous to Yuujiro's life
Keep in mind that Memetobe was literally shit tier in Maximum Tournament and got offed by the sumo dude.
And that is why Baki-Dou sucks, not because of Musashi: It changed the power levels without rhyme or reason.
>>
Could Dorian beat Retsu in a no rules anything goes street fight?
>>
>>178019023
>>Defeats Musashi, which Yuujiro couldn't do
Memetobe stopped their fight and Musashi didn't even go all out against him. Saying the "World's Strongest Creature" is weaker than fucking Motobe is laughable.

>Musashi had problems with:
>>Pickle
>>Gouki
>>Retsu
Musashi fucking steamrolled all of them, who're you trying to fool?
He literally bested Pickle in a contest of raw brute force where Pickle was the one who demolished the rest of the cast at that outside Yuujiro, Baki included, and he toyed around with both Retsu and Shibukawa.
Don't make it seem like it's nearly as bad as Oliva of all people.
>Pickle had problems with
>>No one
Wrong again, Jack singlehandedly gave him PTSD.
>Oliva lost to:
>>Baki
>>Yuujiro
And Shibukawa

Not to mention that Oliva didn't have literally all of the old named cast job to him either.
So don't pretend anyone you mentioned bar maybe Pickle is even half as bad as Musashi, not even the japs like Musashi by the second half of Dou since he was the biggest Gary Stu in the series.
>>178018930
There you are PHG.
>>
>>178019096
>Musashi didn't even go all out against him.
Yeah, bullshit. Itagaki wrote that to save the story, but it didn't work.
Furthermore, Motobe already proved before that he was stronger than Baki, Retsu and Jack.

And you know what? This wouldn't even be a problem if Motobe wasn't originally a glorified background characters used to tell martial art tall tales. If he had been top tier from the beginning, it wouldn't have been bad. But he became top tier out of nowhere, and that fucks the writing.
Itagaki coud have switched Motobe and Gouki in the story and it wouldn't have been a problem at all.
>>
>>178004326

Depends on what you consider a loss. Doyle had the same thing. Katsumi rekt him so many fucking times he gave up ruining Doyle's ass. Dorian didn't 'give up' in the same way that Kaku didn't 'give up' vs Yujiro. As long as he lived, Dorian considered himself the winner until Retsu.

Retsu just managed to corner him philosophically and Dorian accepted it as the reason, leading to his mental collapse.

TL:DR edition.

Dorian couldn't be beaten physically because everything was a mental landscape to him. Retsu is the only one who tried to do that and it was the first win-loss Dorian had.
>>
>>178019484
>Yeah, bullshit. Itagaki wrote that to save the story, but it didn't work.
It makes sense considering these mid-high tier characters can actually hurt Musashi but can't hurt Yujiro. I agree it was mostly stupid writing though.
>Furthermore, Motobe already proved before that he was stronger than Baki, Retsu and Jack.
Against Retsu and Jack, yes. Against Baki he explicitly states that if Motobe was actually trying to kill him Baki would have reacted differently.
>>
>>178019276
Yeah, you're full of shit, you just dislike Musashi for some reason.
Musashi never steamrolled any main character except Doppo in the whole fucking manga. Pickle, for example, steamrolled everyone, even Baki.

>Jack singlehandedly gave him PTSD
Come on, that's nothing.
>>
>>178019276
>Ali Jr's fever dream consists of Baki saying "Daddy" like a child
Brilliant.
This IS Ali Jr's dream right? I don't remember.
>>
>>178012421
Because his tournament is meant to be the best of the best fighting. Baki losing to some 'nobody' like Yanagi in one attack is basically putting massive amounts of shame on his entire life.

Musashi literally, literally killed Retsu without breaking a sweat and beat Pickle fair and square at everything.
>>178019608
That's Guevara's feverish fantasy after getting casually ironed into the ground by Oliva like a used napkin.
>>
>>178019742
My bad.
>Guevara
That's even funnier.
>>
>>178019693
This. Tokugawa was yelling at Baki like a father would yell at his child when he's disappointed in him.

Yeah, I'm rereading the Arizona arc and it's pretty damn amazing.
It does help Oliva is my favorite character together with Doppo and Retsu, but he honestly has some of the most interesting characterization in the series, and his dynamics with Guevara, Baki and Maria are just fantastic.
Not to mention the reaction image material.
>>
>>178020229
Because the 'jobbers' were still world champs at what they did. They weren't weak by any means but it was to show how much stronger the Korukuen fighters were.
>>
>>178020357
Who is the weakest guy in the tournament who can defeat the Yasha Ape? Not his son, the one Baki fought.
>>
>>178020424
Igari I guess.
>>
>>178019023
>>Fast enough to sneak up on Yuujiro and Musashi, THEN jumping in between them to tank a hit
Or they were so focused on each other they didn't notice him.
>>Just gets knocked out by a hit he deemed dangerous to Yuujiro's life
First off, he was fearing his meme kevlar. The one Musashi can't cut. Second, HE deemed it a danger to Yujiro's life, who gives a fuck what he thinks?
>seriously arguing anyone in Baki can contest Yujiro

Yujiro's daddy doesn't count obviously.
>>
>>178020695
I wonder what kind of father Yuichiro was.
He seemed like a super laid back version of Yuujiro, like all the classic hammer smug without the ennui.
He must have been kind of a shit dad for Yuujiro to turn out like that though.
>>
>>178020424

Hard to say. In terms of fights? Most had a fucking harsh match up like the Kenpo guy vs Hanayama and the monk vs Jack were completely mismatched against endurance fighters when their styles were probably more tailored to more typical fighters and would have won vs more generic stylists outside the big guys.

Plus the old Yasha ape was way weaker than his son and Katsumi absolutely no sold the kid. Kato was always a chump as well. I'd put money on him being weaker than Suedo if it wasn't for his weapons.
>>
>>178001761
Freudian psychology is been long disproved, you are better not knowing it.
>>
>>178020889

Yujiro said that he's always been that kind of person since birth.

Yuichiro is more than likely a laid back guy who never took Yujiro's attempts on his life for what they were, since being a Hanma is tantamount to bullshit. So he just kept playing with Yujiro who kept fighting plebs and fighters to get better at it until Yuichiro died.
