Halyomorpha halys, a completely fucking ordinary stink bug
>>

Lawd have mercy.

Does this thing bite? I don't want to throw it out and let it die, but I'm worried it might have some sort of unknown toxin just waiting to destroy an idiot like me.

What should I feed it if it ends up being non-aggressive?

>>
>>2565577
You don't have to kill it, but you should just put it outside your house. Unless you put it in a humid spot, it will survive, it will find another place. If you really REALLY are concerned, then just put it in the suburb or something.

Do not keep that thing. It releases aggregation pheremone. You will soon be infested. Once they find a warm place for winter, they call in their friends. It loves to sleep. In fact.. It makes cat naps look like light power naps. I hope it's not depressed, but yeah it sleeps a lotttt. Sometimes so much so that I panic over if it's alive or not.. But then I give the jug a few taps and it slowly stretches its legs and stumbles about all lazily. Really adorable when you start to think about it.

BIG update though! The bug terrarium den from zoo med and all the accessories was shipped out of their warehouse today. It's coming from the same province (basically state only Canadian word for state). Shouldn't take to long to arrive and then all the jug depression will be gone! It's gonna live like a king, or should I say queen! I'll look to getting a plant, any one in particular from your recollection?

As for a name, well, since it's supposedly female as was stated by our aussie-wise-man earlier, it would definitely have to be a girls name. I'm far too picky when it comes to names so I'd be at it for ages LOL I'm down for any suggestions though, definitely.

awesome news about the terrarium! I'm happy for you, OP.

I'm afraid I don't know much about potted plants or gardening, but I did a little googling for you, anyway. Based on this

I'd go with snapdragons

From all I read though, it sounds like stink bugs would be attracted to just about any ornamental flower or plant.

This site might be helpful for you, too. Pay no mind about the info coming from Orkin - a pest control business!

I must've missed the post about it being female. Maybe it's because I have flowers on my mind, but the name coming to me for her now is "Daisy". I like thinking of names. Any musicians or authors you like, OP? or some other interest that might inspire a good name from you?

Jesus you guys, you make it sound like the end of the world. This stinkbug in "captivity" is no longer harming the environment. In fact what I'm doing is both saving your agriculture and offering it a nice comfortable life. What's so bad about a little compassion... Just because they're smaller than us doesn't mean we get to decide if they live or die. We have our human minds and the ability to choose on an intellectual level for the sake of overseeing all that can't. Life above all else. There is no compromise too big when it comes to nurturing life. You guys should know this stuff!

You're fucking retarded.

Yeah, and what about the rest? I used to put them outside all the time. It was catch and release, and catch and release, again and again, because they keep getting back inside. Then once the winter is over they leave to feed and breed, and do they ever breed.

Go ahead and keep the one you have if you're so attached to it, but what about the rest? Are you going to try and keep every last one of them? You're going to end up with hundreds on your hands, many of which will inevitably escape as per their nature of getting in and out of things. Someone in this thread asked if you are vegan, and maybe you aren't, but I myself am and I had to weigh the damage they do against the damage we will have to do to correct the wrong we started. It's never pleasant, but these insects don't have natural predators here. The only way this is going to be fixed is if we do it ourselves.

I forgot all about soybeans! All sources say they love em. Gotta get some Thanks!

>>2576310

Catch and release to the rest in warmer temps. This one is being taken care of because it's winter out. Though I figure in a few months time I doubt I'll let her out of her snazzy enclosure. Too high a risk a bird or something else will kill her, nty.

If they are such a problem I'll let others deal with it. Me personally? I'm not in the business of killing something that was brought her by human error. It doesn't know any better.

wtf OP just flush it down the toilet like a normal person.
>>
>>2565286
It's a hemipteran. As other people said, it's a stink bug. It doesn't bite because it doesn't have mandibles. They have sucking mouthparts. They are not Assassin Bugs, so you will not get Chagras' Disease.
>>
>>2565301
They literally throw skinmelting chemicals at you and then light you on fire. Wait thats muslims. They still smell the same so its an easy mistake
>>
They're called dayoftherake bugs and spray toxic chemicals that only kill canadians are especially toxic against ones that eat soy

When lazily killing is the norm. We can't create life but we take it without second-thought.

With all the funding and advancements of our "modern age" we could not recreate 1 stinkbug if we killed ourselves trying to for the next 100 years straight we'd come out empty handed. But yeah whatever just crush it lol... :l

>>2576375

Mhm, rushed that research pretty darn quick to ensure the parasite didn't reside with this lil one. Scary stuff though.

>>2576376
>>2576383

It doesn't need toxic chemicals. I replace it's food with a glove on and when it fly's at my hand I literally cringe in the most terrified panic you could ever imagine. Living life on the edge.

Dude I'm in southeast Michigan and I never saw one of these in my life until a year and a half ago. Now they're everywhere, I see them in the house all the time. Last year I had to look up what it was.
>>
Brown stinkbugs come from Asia, are invasive and annoying, and you shouldn't crush them because they are full of some nasty smelling chemical. Pick it up gently with a Kleenex and flush it down the toilet.

Looks like what we in Sweden call Bärfis (litterary berry fart because they smell bad). You can find them outside during summer in the vegetation but they aren't dangerous, just nasty and smelly.

Lmao this entire thread. For the record, they usually suck the sap from citrus trees. We have orange and lemon trees and get thousands of them from time to time. I assumed this is where they got the smell, from the citric acids or some shit. Also some can cuase some nasty burns/rashes if crushed so not entirely harmless.

>they live for two years
Wrong
>>
Fucking flush it I live in NJ and these things infest my bedroom and state. I flush 10 and then minutes later I see another 10 bc they must release some stress pheromone to signal more. If I start to catch some with others in the room, they will become aggressive and fly at me - I swear they chase me as much as their clumsy flight allows them. I fucking hate them. They destroy both agriculture and even indoor plants bc I always walk over to my succulents to find at least one sucking on it. Barely anything eats them too. I am kind to every bug I see EXCEPT these pests because I can't even live comfortably anymore with their infestation that is immune to pest control

I did in fact get a pretty annoying rash on the top of my left hand. Had no idea where it came from. Went away and haven't had any problems since tho.

>>2577466

>I always walk over to my succulents

You're referring to the plant, right? You're not calling your fruits succulent are you? idk that made me laugh for a second...

But on a more serious note the idea of them being aggressive with me and flying at me... No, NO. I cannot withstand that level of attack. I'd lock my door and never go back in. I won't flush it but I will be weary to see what happens as the weather warms up. I'll use some peppermint oil around my windows and doors to keep em out as someone noted to be effective earlier.
>>
>>2577862
Yes my plants haha. Which is exactly why I came back to this thread right now because one was snacking on my plant, so I grabbed a piece of toilet paper and flushed it. Seconds later I'm minding my own business and am holding a mug with some liquid to bring downstairs, and another stinkbug just grazed my face and I hit the floor like a bomb just went off It stayed flying for another full minute while I hid under my blanket. I wish I was exaggerating this.

Just don't release it please because the only population control there truly is for these things is getting caught and flushed by humans.
>>
>>2577862
Also if you have a window AC unit, I guarantee you they get in through there. Seal the part of the window that slides up with duct tape because they come in through the window gap. They also come in through the AC vents, so there's not much you can really do there except cover it with cardboard when you're not using it. Look very hard for any gaps anywhere. It sounds like wherever you live isn't as bad as north eastern US since you didn't know what it is, but better to be safe than see at least 10 a day and waste tons of water flushing them like I do :^)

Anon stop! You're scaring me. I duck and run when a fly comes buzzing my way. I watched a video 2 nights ago of a scarab flying and I kid you not, I had my life flash before my eyes. If one of them flew at my face I'd react the same as if a heavyweight boxing champ landed a strong hook....

I won't release it. It will live a cozy life in it's enclosure....

But hey, what if.. What if they're attacking you because you are 'The Drowner'?

Central air, but yeah like I said I'll take every precaution possible to keep them out. I will turn my humble abode into a fortress if need be. Just to not have to fall pray to one that decides I'm not man enough to deal with it... And it would be right. No, no, no, no ty.

Same. What the fuck brought them here? Rising temperatures? Either way, I'm deeply disappointed in my house spiders' inability to kill them.

Op here, BIG UPDATE!

It's here, It's finally here! but damn it all I'm so dead tired I can't set it up just yet. Been up for over 24 hours with only 3 hours of sleep (been hectic over here).. So I'm basically zombie typing this right now. I'll get it setup and looking fancy first thing tomorrow morning. In the meantime the buggo is taking a nap, and I intend to make the most of this time with some much needed zZz's!

>>2578808

That's really adorable, anon.

Op here, once again. Small disappointing update!

The Zoo Med enclosure came with 3 cracks on the bottom. The retailer I ordered it from asked for pictures to have the option of a refund or have a new one shipped out. I replied with pictures and am waiting for a response.. Ofc I asked for a new one to be shipped out. Just, really sad that it's gonna have to wait possibly another 5 days. Was so excited for today.
