How come some birds are super smart and can talk while their brains are size of peck?
>>
>>2569106
only thing that matters is brain size proportional to body size
Right?
>>

Birds enlarged the front of the brain to deal with the needs of navigation and flight. It takes a large and complex forebrain to see and understand where you are in the air.

some birds then used this enlargement for things other than just migrating and precision flight. Problem-solving and auditory memory for example.

size isn't as important as how 'wrinkled' the brain is
>>
>>2569106
Different brain anatomy.
>>
>>2569116
Yes and no
There are other factors like brain wrinkles
Dolphins for instance have larger brains in proportion to their bodies than humans for instance

*per square inch

Their brain structure is alien compared to us since our closest ancestor with them is our very first reptillian ancestor dating back to 325 million years ago.

I often wonder what a hyper-evolved, sentient avian would be like cognitively, psychologically, emotionally, etc.
>>
>>2571455
do you think they'd use humans as sex slaves
just asking haha kinda weird haha
>>
>>2571455
As someone with many pet birds, they would be an entire race of cheeky passive aggressive assholes.
>>
>>2569213
This. Koalas have much bigger brains than a raven but their brain is as smooth as a river stone.
>>

>>2569121
How are their brains wired?
Looks like they don't have much white matter.

im a human from a alternate reality where hyper-evolved, sentient avians rule, and the few humans that exist here are worshiped as sex gods. (haha.)
>>

Ratio of neurons to total brain mass I believe.
>>
>>2572580
Do the sentient avians worship bird men with human heads? Like a reverse Horus?
>>
Since we measure intelligence by how human like an animal behaves, it's likely that birds communicate more like humans than other animals and other animals just know things and see the world in a way that can't be imagined by the human brain. Our olfactory bulb is tiny tiny tiny. Dogs have 40x bigger olfactory bulbs than humans when accounting brain size meaning they smell a world we can't imagine.

can you have a crow as a pet? alternately how do i attract a crow bro?

How truthful is that snippet of article, exactly?
Cause it's damn impressive if that's all accurate
But I doubt it is

Never forget how amazing bowerbirds are. The males build huts and collect objects to impress the female with which they sort into piles based on the color and material of the objects they find.
>>
>>2573579
it's entirely true but not the whole story.

all birds have more densely packed neurons, even the really dumb ones. So it's not the entire reason some birds are incredibly intelligent. It's necessary to their intelligence, but not the sole cause of it.

This is truly amazing

Local superstition holds that disturbing a bowerbird's display brings about dangerous weather.
>>
>>2569106
birds are dumb, you are just comparing their intelligence with yours
