I saw two ospreys in a tree that looked like that right by a river. I was on a train. Was near San Fran I think. I also tend to find a lot of ospreys near piers or wherever lots of humans fish.

Border Field Park, which is, umm, right on the border. Don't know how things have been in, well, the past year, but you used to literally be able to walk right up to the border fence. You can still get a good look at the Tijuana bullring through binoculars. Going back to birds, it actually has some surprisingly dense, remote-seeming riparian areas and it's a good place to go birding. There's also the Chula Vista Wildlife Sanctuary where you can see endangered clapper rail and the neat-looking black skimmer.
