Foxes prey on the taxonomic superorder that contains rodents and rabbits.... and also humans. "We" are their oldest prey.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euarchontoglires

Could it be that foxes are using humans as a source of food, indirectly?

Are foxes the ones who are *really* in control of the world? Have we greatly underestimated their true slyess and cunning?
>>
>>5070617
It's either cats or foxes.

Manuls have a really similar weirdness going on and ALSO have round pupils instead of slit pupils.
There must be some connection.

You get a sapient pet fox who can also talk. But the catch is, it's a Tibetan fox.
What would you do?

The Moche culture of northern Peru (100 AD–800 AD) was one of the few that incorporated fox characters in their artworks, specifically, foxes with humanoid anatomy.

They also found anthropomorphic animal-headed statues in Mesopotamia, but I'm not sure evidence was fox related
That being said, fox.

Are their eyes placed too high up or their snouts too low?
>>
It took only 20 generations to domesticate red foxes through selective breeding. Scientists say it should take 15 generation more to grant them speech, a further 10 for tool use, and only 5 after that to surpass human intelligence.
>>
>>5071464
Foxes were domesticated thousands of years ago in Spain.
It definitely doesn't 20 generations.
There's evidence of ancient fox domestication else-where in the world too.
It's nice to have a modern reenactment of the process though.

That's a hurtful and outdated term. The preferred, more respectful, term for foxes of genus Vulpes is 'vulpine fox'. This term is more inclusive to urocyonine foxes, lycalopexine foxes, cerdocyonine foxes, and otocyonine foxes.

Sapient means having humanlike intelligence. And whether one treats pets as family or slaves depends on the individual I suppose. Similarly, I prefer 'buy' or 'purchase' for obtaining pets, because I cherish and care for the things that I buy. 'Adopt' and 'rehome' feel suspicious and euphemistic to me. Someone who 'buys' a pet fox may very well treat that fox better than someone who 'adopts' one, but the latter term makes them sound benevolent in spite of the reality.
