>Been wanting to do a toohoo cosplay group for over 7 years>Toohoo cosplays in the west are still mostly shitty crossdressing memesWhat do?Also, pic related, wanting to do a Yukari cosplay (Immaterial and Missing Power outfit) but torn on how to make the dress super puffy and long like it is in the sprite, thinking of either a cage crinoline and petticoat or just loads of petticoat layers (leaning toward no hoops and just a petticoat because of how flowy it seems to be in the game, and also how it looks in TH8). Suggestions/opinions would be very helpful since I don't want to spend a fortune on undergarments in organza/tulle.
>>9596208>Toohoo cosplays in the west are mostly shitty crossdressing memesJokes on you, I'm actively working on trying to not look like shit to do my wife justice.
>>9596208>>9596208Looking at her game sprites, loads of petticoats seems like the way to go in terms of accuracy. Wearing yard upon yard of chiffon or organza can get pretty toasty though.
>>9600693>I'm actively working on trying to not look like shit to do my wife justiceHe's right though - vast majority of it are garbage memes that hit everything on the bad/cringe list. Unstyled wigs, no make-up, poorly fitting purchased stuff from Asia, and stale memes.
>>9596208If you want to save on the cage one option you can consider is adding horsehair braid to the hem of the layered skirt to give it more body and "pop". Unfortunately you'll still find it difficult to make it volumous without a decent amount of skirt material. Buy a 5-9 tiered cheap wedding dress pannier off taobao and that should give you a pretty good amount of volume for an underskirt. And god, been waiting on a 2hu cosplay thread for so long. Looking forward to more discussion on costume construction and alternative designs.
I just saw a bunch of photos of 2hu cosplayers from this years Comiket, and I noticed they tend to be more creative with their fabric choices than 2hus here are.I also noticed most of them seem to be actual girls too.
>>9601211Those are the cosplayers who actually hang around the photography areas and are willing to be photographed. I can't say for certain it is similar, but from my past two trips to Reitaisai the average level of Japanese 2hu cosplayers isn't high and they cosplay more to be part of the festivities as well. I suppose it has to do more with your personal goal I guess. And I for one had no time to step into the cosplay area because I was too busy shopping. The cosplayers who are part of circles who put out photobooks are really amazing though. Glad I got to meet some of them.
Going for a con on Sunday and cosplaying Shanghai doll from Morinohon's Omoito doujin. Thankfully the costume was relatively simple and I managed to rush it out in 2 weeks.
Speaking from California, there is a lot of those terribly done crossdressing ebay costumes with no effort that are just in it for meeting people, but I feel like there's also a fair amount of good Touhou cosplay, girls and traps alike, where there's effort. For Yukari, I'd do a super layered petticoat, but I wear the Touhous with pants. Just experiment around. >>9602167Have fun friendAs someone who does a lot of Touhou cosplay, I encourage anyone thinking of doing a Touhou cosplay to just do it even if you think you'll be alone. I've received a lot of surprises and opportunities being in the fandom.
>>9601043>>9601202>>9602785OP here, thanks for the input! I went with making a massive petticoat and was pleasantly surprised, considering how heavy the dress I made is. Working on her cheongsam now, attempting to embroider the flame bits. Wish my fingers luck.
>>9602869if this thread is still alive when you're done would you mind posting pics of it? or at least how the dress/petticoat looks. I'm actually trying to do a similar costume and want to see how the way you did it works or if i should go with a hoop.
Where's Golem with the spam
Picture of my Shanghai cosplay! Event was a blast and there were quite alot of touhou cosplayers
>>9604895Looks cute anon! Where did you get the lace if you don't mind me asking?
>>9605435I usually buy my lace in bulk off taobao. It is abit of a gamble sometimes because the images might not give you a good idea of the color and how it matches with the fabric of your choice. I typically buy two candidates and use the better matched one when I get to see it in person. Also. I have some cosplay pictures I can dump. How nostalgic
>>9604895Super cute Anon! Love it
>>9605453Also wow I love this Yuyuko cos so much
>>9605495You'll like the rest of the cosplayer's stuff then. Search for Soubi on world cosplay. The Yuyuko is very much in line with her aesthetic.
>>9602167>>9602785>>9605442We self posting?
>>9607156Already did with my Shanghai so why not
I've always wanted to do some touhou cosplay (specifically Flan, Suwako and Cirno) but I know absolutely NOTHING about the series itself and haven't got a clue about how to get into it. A friend who is really into touhou told me to just go for it, she didn't know much about the series when she first cosplayed from it as well, but the thought of cosplaying from something I don't know absolutely almost everything about makes me uneasy>i wouldnt have this problem if "hurr you're a fake gamur gurl" guys didnt exist
>>9607417Imho the best way to get into touhou is to get involved in it first, in any of the ways possible. While not playing the games is missing out on the core experience, touhou is a very varied fandom where people can find their own niche of what they like, whether it is in the doujinshi, music, fangames or crafts. If you are genuinely uninterested in the games, try picking up a few doujins to start? There are some artists with amazing storytelling that is worth a read even if you dont know any basic information regarding the characters. Also there is touhouwiki so yeah. Information is easy to come by anyway
>>9604895you and your gf's alice dolls are super cute
>>9607577Woah shit. Small world huh.
>>9607417No matter what you aren't going to be anywhere near as bad as the touhou cosplayers at /k/ meetups.
>>9607628at least a clownpiece being there makes sense kek
>>9607681Given all the /pol/ memes surrounding Momiji the only one who really doesn't make sense is Alice.
>>9607156Sure why not. My post ( >>9602785 ) was from Touhoucon 2nd year where I was an ambassador. Was a lot of fun.I'm in dire need of new photos for a multitude of reasons, so sorry for the potato quality>>9607417There is so many entry points for getting into Touhou...the music circles, the games, the fandom in general; I specifically jumped in because of art and then just downloaded the games and read up on the lore.Respect points for having that concern in the first place though>>9607628I'm slowly discovering that there is an uncanny amount of Touhoufags that are also on /k/...literal bullet hell?
>>9607487>>9607806Thanks for the info! I hate cosplaying from stuff I don't know the ins and outs of but with touhou theres just... so much..... Every time I try to get into it I just end up getting overwhelmed lmaoI've listened to some of the music over the past few years but I'll be sure to check out some doujins, theres a battle arena style game for switch as well? which I'm planning on picking up since I could actually play that, unlike PC games.>>9607628I'm gonna mcfucking kill myself
>>9607995Unfortunately touhou is relatively new on console platforms as it is. Since the vast majority of the derivative games created are under Zun's IP and the creators need to go through Zun before being greenlighted for any sort of commercial tie-in. Even if your PC is potato tier in terms of specs, you could try out the fighting games. I'm not very clear if there is a battle arena type gane though, since games aren't my forte. I'm pretty much staying for cosplay, music and doujinshi
>>9607806If we're self posting this is from two years ago. I've cosidered doing another one, maybe Momiji?I would need some really good alt art with a masculine twist to it. If I ever were to do another.
The other pics I have go over max file limit (on my phone) so this is what I got haha. I originally cosplayed okuu at Youmacon in 2013 but I revamped her for Colossalcon this year. Bringing her back to Youmacon this fall! I also cosplayed Flan, will be in reply.
>>9609645Here's my flan! I also have sakuya but I borrowed that from a friend.
what 2hu/how would you do a 2hu as a guy so it's not just a dude wearing a dress?
>>9610481I'm not sure what you mean. You literally described all Touhou cosplay in the states.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljMBwkb4iA8
>>96104811) Shave that neckbeard of your face.2) Learn make up.3) Put a circle lense into your eye.4) Ingest some shady drogs with helium5) Don't sit with your clean shaven legs spread apart.... profit?
>>9610698Beard concealer is not a hard thing to use and it goes a damn long way
>>9610481Unzan, Genji, Youki and maybe Rinnosuke. I never really understood the whole man in a dress thing though. It just always looks like you just... gave up and half assed it. Not sure why it recieves so much positive feedback at all.
Aya's traditional news boy outfit looks really cute. I'm really tempted to try it.
I recently cosplayed as Okuu again. I fixed her cape this time! I reckon you can buy a large petticoat from TaoBao. I have a few friends who has them :)
>>9611873Do it! Sounds like most elements can be storebought save the wings.>>9612366Amazing Okuu! How long did you yake to build everything?
>>9613205Roughly less than one month to complete
>>9613676That's pretty fast considering the number of elements haha
>>9614316this is so pretty oh my god>>9614318idk why but this one, while beautiful in it's own right, makes me so uncomfortable? Weird sexualization of my lolis always makes me a bit uncomfy tho
>>9614318>>9614316>>9614312>>9614308>>9612366>>9612880>all these uncanon outfit changesDisgusting
>>9615160Are there people who get upset over it being too fancy? I was actually thinking about how boring my outfits are because I make them exactly the same as the art and how I love all these ruffle monsters.
>>9615163I get kinda upset because the original outfits are way more minimalist and many of these look too overwhelming.
>>9615165That makes sense! That's why mine are always super simple I think. I'm always afraid of making them too gaudy. I love seeing the cosplayers who get posted here though, they're all so pretty even if it's not super accurate.
>>9615158in zun's official art ya, im not talkin about that oc shit
>>9615160>Canon>Mattering in 2huit is easily one of the most fan-fueled pieces of media out there, The outfits are sticking plenty well to design. People should be dressing like the character, not zun's first grader art
I've read 200+ Touhou doujins (on the Dynasty-Scans site), and I like it a lot. I don't like fighting games, so I just read summaries or watch playthroughs of the games instead. I want my first cosplay to be from Touhou because the designs are generally simple and modest, there's a huge amount of characters to choose from, and it's not super mainstream in the US so I won't be stopped for photos too often.I do have some reservations about cosplaying from it, though... I haven't played the games, so I'm kinda iffy about being a "fake fan". Secondly, the highest concentration of fans of Touhou seem to be exclusively from 4chan. The chances of meeting a 4channer at an anime con who'd totally sperg on me about it and be really awkward and kind of creepy seems high, and I don't really don't want to deal with that. Any thoughts on this? Am I just being paranoid?
>>9615285Touhou is one of the fandoms where the games themselves aren't as important to appreciate the culture, so I'm sure nobody will call you a fake fan. And I've been cosplaying 2hu to cons for like eight years and I have met exactly one sperglord that I've had no trouble avoiding so you should be fine. You should follow your dreams and be a cute 2hu~
>>9615293Thank you for answering me! This actually put me at ease, particularly the large creep-to-noncreep ratio. I'm glad that the fandom and culture surrounding Touhou matters more, especially I don't even have a Windows PC to play the games in the first place.I think I'll start with Reimu (since I don't need a wig for her) and move on to others from there. I'll try hard to be the cutest 2hu there is!!
>>9615327I'm glad I could help! Reimu's cosplay is super fun to make! Be sure to post pictures when you finish it!
>>9615256Hags are for sexualizing.
>>9615165>>9615167I guess it is a personal taste thing? Having alot of elements has a strong visual impact in a costume but can tip into the gaudy realm a little too quickly for me as well. There's always the option of favouring designs drawn by artists who have a simpler aesthetic. Artists like Morinohon, Insanity factor, Arikan Robo and Plutoknight are just a few I can think of at the moment. >>9615285You got into touhou through the doujinshi, so I'm not sure how that makes you a "fake". On a practical note, in the event you do meet a sperglord, those fellows typically only have clout among their small circlejerks of purist fans. Effectively meaning you can ignore them with little to no effect to your wellbeing really. 7 years cosplaying touhou project and I've met a few of these people. But maybe cause I am a guy they don't pick too much trouble with me I guess.
>>9604895Very lovely clean craftsmanship! I'm glad you had such a nice time!
>>9615160I've been looking for some OTT inspiration actually, huge frilly dresses are so much fun to wear!Would anon have any Hina/Keine/Patchouli/Alice?
>>9610896Most guys do 2hu crossplays for fun, not to construct an actually good cosplay. I at least put in enough effort that I look decent and presentable, it's just that I'm not trying to be a convincing crossdresser. Personally, I use "ironic" crossplay to help get completely unhinged and relaxed at anime cons. I'm not a skeltal nerd or a neckbeard so I try to own the look, and I end up getting more conversations/photos than when I do a serious male cosplay.
Opinions on doing MAGA Momiji this far after the election?I'm probably going to make either Aya or Hecate next anyways.
>>9616540How about you stop cosplaying as a dumb crossie meme
>>9616540I sincerely hope you don't run into any nutjobs from the anti fa camp. I don't think they will get that you are doing it ironically. Costume wise looks fine though.>>9616384I don't see how doing a good job is mutually exclusive to cutting loose and having fun. Guess it boils down to your personal priorities then.
>>9616540Oh for fuck's sake, don't. This meme was fucking stupid in the first place and you're going to seem stupid by association. Plus, regardless of how late it is, people are still probably going to mean-mug you. Just make her tokin, it's not hard. sage for salt because I love Momiji and meme cosplays are cringy and dumb.
>>9616540General rule of thumb is keep it inside the con grounds. Noone is really gonna go sperg on you if you're doing memery like putting on a MAGA hat.
>>9616540>>9616721>>9616846>you can get physically beaten in the streets for moderate right wing imagery in a costume
>>9616721>thinking it's ironic despite the I voted stickerPast couple cons I just did a regular Momiji cosplay with a normal Token hat but I can't seem to find any decent pictures. And none of the characters from the newest game really stuck out as being fun to cosplay except maybe tanned Cirno.
Less politicking and more 2hus
I love the location of this photoshoot and the originality of the costumes but the costume's awful lace and loose threads make me die a lil on the inside.
>>9618154I would kill to have nice outdoor locations. Studios can only refresh their themes that often and it is a real challenge finding a nice place for themed shoots.
I want to snuggle a poofy and frilly Yukarin!
>>9596208If you want cosplay something amd the rest of the community isnt overly talented then you do a good job then. Shitty cosplays are a blessing. They will male your cosplay look exponential better.
>>9616867you can get physically beaten in the streets for accidentally looking at someone wrong, or quite literally anything elsehow high are the chances though
>>9620411The satin is really distracting. I havw no clue why people would use cheap satin in such large quantities in a costume.
>>9621102I like it.
>Cheongsam and opera glovesMy favourite thing ever!
I want to hug this spoopy ghost!
Goddamn, I love the Kourindou outfit! Also Ely's Momiji a cute! CUTE!
>>9615285Touhou isn't primarily a fighting game, m8
Anyone working on projects recently? I'm planning to start on this the moment I get a greenlight from the original artist. This is provably my most ambitious foam project to date.
>>9623616I'm starting a Junko cosplay for a friend, but they just went to Comiket, and want a cosplay like all the nips have. So I'm stuck explaining how expensive decent fabric is and how they're going to have to spend serious money on it.
>>9623810Oooh good luck. Junko is on my radar as well to experiment with beading and other embellishment methods. I haven't found a satisfactory material for it but if you intend to use brocade I definitely suggest you buy it from taobao. The variety of designs and materials will be far larger since there is greater demand for it in China.
>>9623813I'm mainly planning on doing appliqué for her tabard and gold braid for her sleeves. this friend already bought several yards of a lamé brocade fabric when they went to Japan, and they expect it to set the tone for the rest of the outfit so I really don't have any other choice besides going all out on it. Worse case scenario they can give me a gun or two as payment.
>>9623616I'm not going to self post because I fucked up in my ears and made them too big, but I'm hopping to have fixed up version of Momiji by Youmacon. I should have a shield. With winter coming I doubt I'll have a sword. Maybe it will all be done by next spring. lol
Next year I'm gonna go to my city's marathon and I am planning to run as a 2hu just for lulz, but I have absolutely no idea which Touhou cosplay would be best for running. I am thinking of Clownpiece, but since there will be too many normies, they might think I'm dressed as Burgerland flag. any suggestions?
>>9624746Yuugi or Byakuren? I assume you don't want to give yourself heatstroke so be creative with adapting the costume.
Happy Cirno day!
Is selfposting okay? I made Touhouvania Marisa cosplay last year. I also want to make Yukari and Hong Meiling some day.
>>9625501Go ahead! A few of us have already done so>>9625478Happy Cirno day to you as well. Just returned from watching ARM spin at an event. That guy has some crazy energy
>>9625729Here it is. My broom isn't exactly the same as the reference but it was my first time making such a prop.
The only thing that annoys the hell out of me is the people cosplaying touhou for the designs and at the dame time whining that "ZUN's style is shit boohoo I only cosplay fanart and I don't have time to play the games." I'd love to chat with other touhou fans in my community but most of them are in it for the cute designs and not the game itself..
>>9626832The cosplayers are the most visible portion of the fanbase, but also the group to likely be the most attracted to visuals precisely because of the nature of their hobby. Touhou's huge amount of derivative works naturally means people find their niches to stick to or different ways into the touhou fandom in the first place. While it is disappointing to realize they dont play the games, or some who outright dont know the character beyond stuff they dug out from a wiki, I find a more fruitful way is to befriend them nontheless and then slowly introduce them to the greater spectrum of the fandom. I rather put the effort into growing the fanbase than getting fustrated over something you cant really control.
>>9616540Just do it. Stand tall and people won't give you shit. You'll make better friends with genuine people rather than some petty cosplay circle of "superfans" that will spit at you for having fun. t. Maga Awoo 4x now and only ever gotten one off remark (from an LGBT booth no less).
>>9626731I don't think it looks bad. Good job nailing the touhouvania vibe!
I regret everything.
>>9626670I really like that Yukari!
>>9628637Why? Looks like you had fun.
>>9630051I love this! It looks so natural.
Permission recieved from Meima to work on his armored Ichirin. So I'll be started on EVA foam crafting soon.
>>9618819You can go to a state park if you live in the US. Or whatever equivalent your country has if you don't.There's beautiful scenery out there, probably not too far away either. Get some friends and go hiking, bring your cosplay in a bag. Optionally bring a chair and tent so you can change on site. If you go on a weekday during the school year most nature parks will be deserted. If not you'll probably make some old peoples' days by dressing up like weirdos and doing a photoshoot in the woods.
>>9626670That's some next level cosplay, holy shit.
>>9632154This so much. I have a friend who occasionally brings a handful of cosplayers up the mountain near our town to get some beautiful pictures like pic related.
>>9632154Oh we have those, just that the parks here tend to be have quite a lot of human traffic and those can wind up slightly disruptive. Also there aren't that many parks since the country in small and it is kind of weird when your pictures end up looking the same from one place to the other. Said photo was taken at one of the parks at night. The amount of modern fixtures tend to be very distracting so close cropped shots are usually the thing to work towards.
I guess I might as well ask here.I'm a 6'0 wide-shouldered hairy man with >1300lbs s/b/d total and I want to cosplay Yukari. After some searching around it seems that I would need one custom made. How much would something like this be usually, and would some serious manscaping be necessary?
>>9632626Depending on which costume. If you are talking about her white dress plus tabard you can get away with less hair removal, just mostly centered around your face should be sufficient. The purple dress may be tricker since it is short sleeved and reveals abit more of the figure. As for cost it really is dependant on your tailor's call. The most affordable option is to get a quote off a tailor on taobao and see how much they ask for. You'll need a translator + someone to help you get measurements though. Good luck anon
>>9632700Yeah I'm thinking of the IN tabard dress. I'd probably need to cut for around half a year for the purple dress, in addition to manscaping. Also I can speak Chinese so there shouldn't be too much trouble on the taobao end. The price shouldn't be too bad relative to my PhD salary. Thanks for the info anon.
Oh man, I'm so in the mood for cuddling a gappy girl right now!
Many years ago i made a Suwako cosplay for my little sister and suddenly a picture of it was all over the internet. Kinda funny how my big sister posted that one pic only on her personal fb pageMost of the comments were nice compliments and such but of course some sick fucks wanted to lewd a 6-7 year old (which is no surprise considering its *touhou* were talking about)She did win a hononary mention in the cosplay competition for cuteness tho
>>9609646How did you make the wings? The base structure looks really good and so does the floating effect
>>9632707Yeah good luck anon. >>9637294Heh. I've always had the intention to bring my kid, if I have one in the future, to a con in a matching touhou costume. Seems lile I may have to reconsider it in some places.
>>9615256>official art that isn't ZUN is very not loliZUN has trouble expressing age in his art
I love Koumajou Densetsu Yukarin!I also really like how the coser's gloves look in this pic, too, for some reason.
>>9637549My brother actually made them but we are planning on remaking them in the future. They are balsa wood sticks with tiny holes drilled in for clear beading cord. The crystals are acrylic sheet and painted on the inside. The wing fits into the harness inbetween two wooden protrusions with a metal pin that goes through a hole. They can also fold in and out and that's held with rubber bands stretched actoss the wings.Originally they also had individual leds inside each crystal, but for acen I had to take those out because a few were dead and I had no time to replace them. Pic related is what it's supposed to look like when lit up (old pic + resaving, forgive me for quality haha)
