Did you just try and call me a gook?
Racist. I'm a kike.
Also I'm meh. Playin vidya. Waiting for shit from CC in the mail
>>

Whoops meant to say whats going on
>>
>What cons are you gok
OP got garroted before finishing their statement.

Heading to Colossal East in the Poconos this weekend. Honestly I'm mostly a midwest-midatlantic con person so I don't go to many cons in the region.

Going to put together a list of (known) cons for the thread in a bit.
>>
Skipping NYCC this year since it's been meh for me the past couple of years. Probably gonna try Anime NYC instead, hoping it's somewhat decent.
>>
May have missed some, didn't include Wizard Worlds.

I feel the same way about NYCC and was considering just selling my tickets. I really don't care about comics or Western media all that much, and it doesn't look like there's going to be any anime oriented stuff at all this year. Definitely gonna be headed to ANYC, just need to start making a relatively last minute cosplay.
>>
>>9622808
PAX is April 5-8, 4 days now!

>>9622887
Yeah same here, not really into comics, and it just feels way too crowded now.
>>
>>9622801

Same. I just flat out didnt go this year and went to j1con in philly which was its last year there too. Also holy shit ive never seen such a micro con, even though it was short notice. Like the whole con only had a game room, a dealers/artist alley and 1 panel area. It was nuts but it was still a fun time, cant wait for j1con 2018

Why does every con in nj go to Atlantic city though, i cant stand being at Atlantic city
>>
>>9623193
Would you say j1 is worth getting a hotel and driving from North NJ for?
>>
>>9624064

Id say yes since its pretty cheap with its 99-149 hotel costs right now and 40-50 ticket 3 day prices in addition to the hotel rooms being in the con so you dont have to worry about beggers and the usual shit in Atlantic city
>>
Bump.
>>
I'm gonna be headed to AAC for the first time in several years. Staying at a different hotel off-site, but should be a good time anyway. Now to get going on costumes...
>>
>>9628925
Same with AAC. I think the last time I went was about 5 or 6 years ago. I'm curious to see how the con has grown.

>>9622887
I'm going to NYCC mainly because I was able to secure a pro pass. The regular line is enough to make me not want to go.

Going to NYCC is definitely an experience I think most people should try once. But if you're putting yourself through 4 hours of lines each year; I think you're a masochist. It just isn't that fun of a con to make into a yearly thing.

NYCC. Not sure if I'm going yet because of how big of a clusterfuck they turned ticketing into. ANYC looks promising tho, but the date clashes with -

DerpyCon - been going every year, lots of fun. Not too big, not too small. Great crowd, in the middle of a nice town. Not going to give it up for ANYC.

Wicked Faire. They're bringing it back next year and I'm fucking hyped. One of my favorite cons ever. I'll also throw in Steampunk Worlds Faire here since it's by the same guy and also loads of fun.

Heliosphere for some old school SF goodness, and to be one of the youngest people there instead of one of the oldest like at an Anime Cons. RIP Lunacon.

Anime NEXT. Went this year after not going for a while and was blown away. Having it in Atlantic City worked out much better than I would have expected, and you can hit the casinos when you need a break from the con.

I'll throw Arisia in here just because I love it so much, even though it's in New England. Great atmosphere, amazing panels, incredible room parties, terrible hotel in a awful location tho, and the weather is almost always a horror show. Has also gotten seriously infested with SJWs, but they haven't ruined the fun - yet. Make sure to seek out the Rocket Fuel party if you attend.

I-Con: It's finally back! Or is it? I can't find any info on 2018. :( Ditto for LI-Con.
Liberty City Anime Con/Blaze Con/Play NYC - A special shout out to the planning geniuses who independently scheduled 3 cons in NYC on the same weekend this summer, guaranteeing that they'd all have depressed attendance. I hope they don't make that mistake next year. Much better to have a con every weekend in your City then having to choose between 3 on the same weekend.

I'm going to AnimeNYC mainly for the Gundam concert. Otherwise I don't plan on going to a con until AnimeBoston.
>>
A local con (Setsucon for anyone in the central PA area) that I've been watching grow for several years now finally moved to a good, much larger venue, so I'm going to save up/panel for that and Tekko.

anyone going to kotoricon next January?

I mildly hope they can get a bigger venue but they kinda seem like they're locked into the college. unless they decide to use more buildings for more stuff
I've been going to this con ever since 2013 I think and I love it, its just small enough for my taste
>>

All these conventions in Massachusetts and I've still never been to one.
Somehow I always end up returning to poor, no matter how carefully I manage my funds or how hard I work.

End my suffering
>>
>>9634188
There was a lot of cosplayers there (I think it had a higher cosplayer:not-cosplayer ratio than toracon), but the panels were pretty dull.

i'd give it an meh/10.
>>
all we really have here is UBcon and Fan World. rumored return of Tatsucon (unfortunately). there's Kaminaricon and Lilcon but you'll stay away if you know whats good for you.

then toracon in rochester and roccon supposedly. out of all of those, toracon and UBcon are my only plans. UBcon is easy to ghost and toracon is decent enough for a college con.
>>
So it looks like AAC isn't doing an informal dance, just a formal and a 21+ event? Anybody have insight on whether or not either of those are worth going to?
>>
Not a convention per se, but a free one-day Ren Faire in upper Manhattan, outside of an actual medieval castle known as the Cloisters:

http://www.whidc.org/festival/home.html

Absolutely worth going if you're in the area.
>>
Any females in NH want to cosplay with me and also be my gf
>>
>>9642392
The AAC rave a few years back was always really fun.

I guess it also depends on how drunk you plan on getting.
>>
>>9642392

same as last year. hotel is trying to get rid of the con overall so no more rave (plus endless harping on noise complaints, room stuffing, etc). sad because AAC was a fun social con but no more. RIP.
>>
>>9644558
Ah, that kind of sucks, this is the first time I've been back in several years. Might check out the 21+ thing but I get the feeling I'll probably have more of a good time drinking in a hotel room with friends...
>>
>>9644682
Hope you aren't staying in the main hotel. Last year they made you sign a waiver agreeing that you'd never have more than five people in the room at once, even if it's just friends who stopped by. Staff then patrolled the halls each night, knocking on every door to make sure there were no groups of people and claiming "noise complaints" to make sure everyone stayed quiet. Staff knocked on my door three times in one night to complain about noise, even though me and my roommate were just chatting and watching videos.
>>
>>9624064
No. I'm from North NJ and went to j1con each day because I was in the AA. It was pretty dull and not exciting at all. There was barely a n y t h i n g as they didn't even have a panel room, and the whole thing was basically just in a warehouse. It was really ghetto, and you can't hear anything, always have to scream to talk because they used a corner of the warehouse for their panels, having a mic and several speakers. It's cheap for a reason.
>>9630784
I signed up for Wicked Faire hall table at $250...really expensive imo, and that was the cheapest table option. If I get accepted, I sell handcrafted wands and sigil art/paintings along with some other animal themed trinkets. Would you happen to know if this is the kind of thing attendees would be willing to buy? I'm really worried about not breaking even... If I even get accepted.
>>9633676
I'll be going if I get into their AA. I went once in 2011? I think their second year, and it was only a day. It was really... Shitty and I didn't do well at all. Of course my art is pretty bad too, but over the years I improved and rebranded myself. Would you say more people go every year? Do you know if people actually buy there, or is it still just a hang out con?
>>9623193
Dear God I wish there was an actual GOOD con in north NJ too...seriously everything is at least a 2 hour drive or more from here.
>>
>>9644780
No, we're staying in a hotel about 10-15 minutes away. We only officially decided we were gonna go about a month ago, so the main hotel was booked. That sounds obnoxious, though. Glad we're not staying there, as convenient as it would be...
>>
Definitely going to go to ANYC for saturday/sunday, gotta start working on a costume now.

Hopefully there will be a Danganronpa meetup there
>>
>>9637669
Tatsucon's return will be worth it for the horrific website alone.
>>
I'm laying in bed for the 10th day in a row, with no immediate plans to go to a con. gotta recover, then find a job, first. I'm still losing weight (down almost 40lbs all together) but still got a bit more to go. I've also dropped my list of potential cosplays to 4 characters:
>Krillin (dbz)
>Ikkaku Madarame (bleach)
>Rude (ff7)
>agent 47 (hitman)
>>
>>9623193
There was a con in Newark that seemed promising. First year was big, at the nicest hotel in the city. Media, minor celebrities, local artists, etc. etc. but the turnout was great and I heard it made enough to upgrade to an even bigger venue (Pru Center maybe?) Next year took place at what seemed like a murder warehouse off Rt. 21, I refused to touch it with a 10 foot pole and it died after that.

Not sure what happened there but sad nonetheless
>>
NYCC was not as much of a shit show as I thought it would be. Anyone else end up going? Also Another Anime Convention is going on in New Hampshire this upcoming weekend. I'm going to see if I can get a group of friends to head up there.
>>
>>9622725
Pennsylvania and New York aren't technically 'northeast'.
>>
>>9654034
I went. First time at NYCC but from what I heard it was very different (although they say that every year...) The Javits Center is under construction so apparently the con was more cramped, not to mention work shut down certain sidewalks. They also moved Artists' Alley from a large area to a smaller one, and I can definitely attest it was cramped as hell. Panels were meh, allegedly much less star power than usual. The show floor was alright, but there were at least a dozen booths selling nothing but Funko Pops, Dorbz, Dunnys, etc. Very annoying. The area outside was a minefield of photography and there were so many people smoking and vaping there was practically a constant haze. There were ZERO spots to sit down the entire time so I ended up shambling around like a zombie exhausted. Big pet peeve I had were the half-dozen people pushing around strollers like bulldozers and the employees practically running people over with trash bins. I understand they have to get rid of trash but saying "Ey watch ya back." two seconds before practically knocking someone over is not cool at all. Also who the hell brings a baby to a con? I get it's their right and there are extenuating circumstances but when I see someone with their double-wide stroller filled with stuff it's irritating.

Overall a fun experience, but with the Javits Center under construction until 2020 definitely not an "every year" event unless you're a masochist.
>>
>>9654038
Uhh yea they are?
>>
>>9654528
Nayrt, but NY and PA (and CT) are usually categorized as "Mid Atlantic"
>>
>>9654551
No, the Census Bureau blankets all nine states into "North-East" and then sub divides them into "New-England" and "Mid-Atantic". North-East is correct to include PA and NY.
>>
fucking christ on a bike, as it turns out the guys behind nycc are coming to Philly next yearand thats great and all but the year their con happens is intersecting with j1con which just moved out of Philly to Atlantic City and the new con is the same day as j1con

>>9654514

AAC was lit for partying and fall foliage and I would like to go again but that hotel situation/staff is looking more unfriendly by the year. Not going this year. Please provide good stories for those going. Curious how this year will go.
>>
>>9657377
Also curious. I'll be heading up tonight after a fun drive from CT.

AAC was always great in the sense that the con itself was pretty lame, but the drinking and partying was great.
>>
Con is comfy but Im also spending little money as with every AAC people cancel. Nothing big and expensive in the dealers hall to temp me, a bit of a gift and a curse. J Michael Tatums panel was excellent as always. Kind of dead at night. No clue where of even if there's parties like the old days
>>
Someone on the AAC FB group is complaining about a group in the masquerade "cheating"? I'm guessing this is sore losers, but any deets?
>>
>>9659512
They didn't separate store bought and home mode or novices and experts, from what I heard
>>
>>9659540
But it’s a masquerade and not a costume contest. Does that really matter? Almost every other con I’ve gone to judges the masquerade based on the quality of whatever skit/song/dance they do.
>>
>>9659584
It's both, you can either do a walk on or a skit but your costume is still subject to judging. AAC has been shit this year imo.
>>
>>9659540
Bought costumes were not eligible for craftsmanship or best in show prizes, but were eligible for performance prizes. That's pretty standard?
>>
>>9659540
>didn't separate novices and experts
No? They gave out awards for best novice, journeyman, and masters. Whoever said that must have not watched the masq.
>>
>>9659512
Link?
>>
>>9659512
I searched the FB group for "cheat" and "cheating" and got zero results. Was it deleted or in another group, maybe?

>>9659656
>>9659675
Are both correct... definitely sounds like someone was just being a sore loser. Unless they have evidence of someone claiming they made something when they didn't?

Anyway. Overall the con was pretty chill, but I wasn't interested in any panels whatsoever. I hadn't been since the con was back in Nashua. Probably will go again next year.

The most disappointing con I've been too. Constantly wondering where all the people were, even on a Sat night. Too much space for little people in the older section of a college. I'd say it would be good if it were crammed into a hotel but the people weren't talkative.
>>
>>9664690
That's too bad, we really could use a decent multi-genre con around here since CTCon is garbage these days.

AAC posted this about Hall Cosplay winners:
>Hall Cosplay staff would like to make a statement regarding the winners. We do not condone any forms of harassment against our contestants regardless of if they placed or not. We stand by our decisions until we can see irrefutable proof that shows that a contestant shouldn’t have won.

Sounds like the drama >>9659512 mentioned. Anybody know details?
>>
>>9666532
The 2B is accused of buying her costume. If you know her she's a total sperglord with no talent - definitely not good enough to win for craftsmanship. She was the wedding dress Peach last year - a dress made of two Salvation Army dresses cobbled together.

She is reported to have claimed to have made the 2B in two weeks despite there being photo evidence of her wearing it at CTcon this year.

Yes. She tried posting a Patreon "guide" to prove she made the cosplay but just posted a bunch of stolen tutorials and patterns with zero progress.

She gets really upset whenever she doesn't win something so I'm not surprised she's resorting to cheating.

I screen shot this early in the train wreck planing period.

I think the also got rid of the Cosplay Makes Happy and Fun Cosplay Entertainment or something dumb like that.
>>
>>9669437
Wow, yeah, that's really obvious. It doesn't even look nice enough to win an award in the first place, either. It's so ill-fitting. She needs a petticoat and the poofy sleeves are so limp and sad looking.
>>
>>9669771
It's because she said she hand embroidered the whole thing. I don't understand how a judge could look at that and think it wasn't store bought.
>>
>>9669386
Oh jeez, her. I worked semi-alongside her at CTCon and there's plenty I could say, but I'm like 80% sure she goes on here (I think she even posted a picture of this 2B after the con) and she would definitely recognize me if I spilled.

But yeah, she talked to me about how much of a pain in the ass embroidering the skirt was and showed it to me and I remember being... skeptical. Also she showed up to set up day wearing an ita-ass satin lace monster and cat ears and called herself a Lolita and I died a little inside.
>>
>>9668486

>>9669186
Neat, hoping for a good amount of DR3 cosplayers for good pics
>>
>>9669833
>hand embroidered
What. That's OBVIOUSLY done by machine. She could have at least lied and said she designed a pattern for her embroidery machine to do.
>>
>>9670057
She's a major try hard who thinks because CTcon gave her control of the cosplay events (newsflash, it's because no one with any merit would take over for that shit show, they hemorrhage staff every year) she's hot shit now.

She told the judges - who aren't the masquerade craftsmanship judges, but a separate team - that she made it in two weeks including the embroidery. If that was true I can see it being impressive enough to warrant an award, but not second place masters. And let's be honest, bitch didn't make it.
>>
>>9669386
I just looked at the tutorials she posted that she claims she used. I've been doing this shit for over a decade and there is no way to use the dress pattern she outlined for that dress. Absolutely no way.

This is laughable.
>>
>>9670828
Oh boy gossip.
This whole thing is funny because she literately had a fb post about her buying the costume, and showing it off.
I known her for a bit and she is a nice person but everything always revolves around her. It's always about self-pity and validation from all the beta orbiters, if something goes wrong then it's the fault of her autism, if it's something goes right she takes all the credit. I don't want to say too much because the beta orbiters will threaten you with physical violence, it's to the point where I have turned off all notifications from them.
>>
>>9670828

Not surprised she went hall contest this year, after she lied to the masq judges about making things that were obviously bought last year and didn't win anything as a result (and then had a public meltdown over it) Most of the Masq judges were the same so she must have hoped the Hall people were dumber.

I cannot understand why people want to compete with things they didn't make themselves. It's not like that's how you get cosfamous these days (and especially not at AAC).
Maybe it's because she's too ugly to actually get popular? And her horrible makeup doesn't help. She doesn't even fill in her brows.
>>
>>9671962
She's an attention whoring vampire? I've seen events she's in (though I don't know why they keep letting her do them because she's garbage...?) and she turns everything into her. She's always driving to make sure everyone is looking at her, even when it means acting like an idiot. It's embarrassing to watch.

This way she could win something and everyone would fawn over her. Instead, bitch got caught and she has no idea what shit she's in for the future.
>>
>>9672376
But why not participate in the performance category instead? Unless she's just so horrendously not creative that she can't come up with something to do as a skit? Idk, the pathetic aspect is just absolutely astounding.

First day at rhode island comicon. The security situation is a fucking mess. They have an attachment to the games room from the main con, but if you go to it, you can't get back in. And not only that, you are forced to run outside in the freezing cold around both buildings, then you got forced to run around the entire arena to get back to the panels and dealers. Wouldn't be so mad if I didn't have to do it 3 times, even asking "can I get back in this way?" And being told absolutely.

If anyone's here, planning on running my oni genji cosplay again tomorrow.

>They have an attachment to the games room from the main con, but if you go to it, you can't get back in. And not only that, you are forced to run outside in the freezing cold around both buildings, then you got forced to run around the entire arena to get back to the panels and dealers.

WHY??
How can they possible justify that??

>is it still just a hang out con?
for the most part

Plan on going to Tekko if I can. Missed last year because I wasn't sure when it was and moved a year before...
>>
Ace Comic Con is this weekend

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to find cool new england area cosplayers or do they not exist? I'm in the NH area near the MA border and all of the meetups I've been to are overrun by immature weaboos in terrible cosplays. Other states have top tier cosplayers and close-knit communities so why don't we?

I think, it's because most people in the new england area generally keep to themselves and to their groups. In Mass I know there are groups around but I keep away, because of unneeded drama. My advice would be just keep trying.

Was Anime NYC worth going to? Any larger vendors here that can ballpark the amount of volume they got?

Every cool person I've met in MA/NH started by casually socializing at a con, then invited to hang out with that person's group over a slow span of time and encounters. People are protective of their friends groups. Be patient and chill.

People who go to public meetups are usually too crazy or annoying to make friends the normal way.

I liked it a lot, smaller than ABoston for sure but for a 1st year con it was pretty nice.

Panels were kind of a crapshoot, but they had a lot of gundam stuff (that I wasn't into) which was good for the fans.

I'd go again for sure, mostly because I live real close.

Public NE cosplay gatherings aren't worth it because of the accessibility of younger/cringe crowd. Smaller ones that aren't as publicized may work. I suggest having a friend go with you in case you wanna split elsewhete. But like others said, a lot of the good cosplayers stay away and con setting is the best way to try socializing.

I had a pretty good time especially for a first year con, I'd say its worth going to.

NoSuchCon in Poughkeepsie is scheduled for Feb. 23-25.

For the 4 years I have been going to this con, its first 2 years were great, but unfortunately the last 2 had so much left to be desired. I'm hoping they will get their act together this year and start acting like a convention again, and not just an anime marketplace like last year.

It was alright. You didn't even need a badge if you weren't hitting the dealer's room or artist alley. Lots of people came Saturday and Sunday to ghost it since you could walk through most of Javits without badge check or security checking your bags and props.

So how about that Southcoast Comic Con drama? First they change their other con's name to Boston Anime and get sued by Anime Boston when the refused to change it back. Now they refuse to fire or make attendees aware that a registered sex offender is running their photobooth. The staff member voluntarily quit after the story went viral, but how bad are these people at running a con?

Yikes. First I have heard of this con. That sort of writing from the con's page is even more cringey.

>Kotoricon

Literally Dashcon-tier every year since it has existed.
>>
I am thinking of going to Arisia for a day, any other anons that have been there, what's it like or if it's worth going?
>>
>>9714999
Also Anime NEXT drama with the page admins making stupid memes and then attacking people and deleting their own posts to make it look like people were bitching about the memes

>dissing my local small con
>>
>>9716025
Tell your local small con to fix all the broken images and missing text on the guest pages. Shit's embarrassing.

Any superfly women out there want to get with a guy who is 35 years old, lives with his mother, no job but lifts weights and would love to cosplay with you? Don't all step up at once now.
