How are you preparing for the Halloween season, /cgl/?
>>
>>9625923
there aren't really any cons around halloween so I'll just work on my stuff for winter cons
>>
>>9625923
I was thinking of doing a generic ghost. I'm not sure if I want to ruin a perfectly good bedsheet though.
>>
>>9625923
I'll just be looking for a party to go to in manhattan. I've already got a costume ready from a con I had to skip during the summer.

Problem is getting my friends to come with me. I'm debating on going stag to some bars and seeing what happens.
>>
>>9625923
I don't really do Halloween anymore, all my friends stopped celebrating or doing anything. After 3 years wasted just hanging out and drinking beer with people I wasn't really close with I just said fuck it. I'll be going to a goth club that night, at least the music will be good.
>>
Everything goth and good died out here. Wanted to be poison ivy last year but had to work

We have a contest at work, which really limits my choices since I'm a cook at a nursing home and if I want to win the stupid contest I have to have the old folks vote for me. Figured pic related will be a safe bet, just need a baggy, white button, a toy ax, and possibly some vegetable puppets
>>
>>9625923
I have an OTT gothic coord that doubles as an aristocratic vampire costume to normies (something similar to pic related), but I don't know if I'll get to wear it. I'm visiting family on the weekend closest to Halloween so I'll probably miss any meetup and the big club nights, and since Halloween itself is on a Tuesday this year I probably won't be able to rope any friends into going clubbing with me, since they'll all have work the next day.

I need to order circle lenses soon if I want to go full vampire, but most opticians I've tried have flat-out refused to measure the curvature of my eye for them because they say coloured contacts are dangerous. I don't think it's a good idea to just order a standard pair from Pinky Paradise and hope it works out, but I might not have any other option.
>>
>>9626092
why don't you just get measured for regular contacts and use the measurements on that box?
>>
>>9626092
This. It should give you an idea of your measurements, in any case.
>>
>>9625923
It's funny, last year everyone thought that Harley Quin was going to be the costume everyone did but it actually turned out to be Eleven from Stranger Things
Seriously, I spotted like 20 in under an hour last halloween.
>>
>>9626097
why the fuck would you suggest someone get contacts that aren't the right fit?
that's how people lose their sight
>>
>>9626095
>>9626097
They won't measure me for regular contacts because I'm not actually short-sighted. I go to the opticians' every couple of years because I have a vision problem in one eye, but contacts/lenses in general can't correct it, they just monitor it to make sure it won't get worse.

Opticians in my country already don't like people using cosmetic lenses (I've heard a lot of cosplayers complain about opticians just going "no, you shouldn't wear coloured contacts for no medical reason" when they asked to be measured), and because I have no backup eye they straight-up refused when I asked. Kind of stupid desu, I'm a sensible person and wouldn't order contacts without knowing, but I'm sure plenty of teens would just buy lenses anyway and potentially fuck up their eyes worse.
>>
>>9626127
couple things
1 - in the US, it's against the law for an eye doctor to not give you your prescription or measurements if asked
2 - doctors are required to tell you to not get cosmetic lenses, but if you say you're going to get them anyway, they need to give you your measurements otherwise you will fuck up your vision possibly permanently. they are supposed to work to try to avoid that, like how trannies that go to the doctor can get hormones if the doc says they're unsure, just by saying they'll get them off the internet anyways.

>>
>>9626141
why wouldn't I assume people on an American website about American/Japanese culture are American?
>>
>>9626111
I was just about to post this, thank you so much
>>
>>9626160
Nobody remembers what Halloween's about.

These days it's just free candy and playing dressup. This is because we now live in "multicultural" societies that have essentially destroyed everyone's culture for a bland formless blob of nothing.
>>
>>9626406
Samhain isn't Halloween, anon.
>>
>>9626169
Whypipo have no culture
>>9626406
I do! I even practice some antique spells based on my books.
Anyway, i'm waiting for my magical OP, and i think i'll make my own witch hat with matching colours while i'm waiting. My pumpkins are growing kinda small right now, which is good because they'll be easier to empty.
I have more plans for the decoration but i don't want to make a blog post.
Sage
>>
>>9625923
This is mostly related to OP pic than anything else honestly...

I really like Harley Quinn. I like her from the Batman Animated series, where she's a fun foil to the stereotypical arch nemesis and grows some dimension of her own.

But god damn... I fucking hate seeing harley of the month cosplays everywhere. It was bad before Suicide Squad, too, with every other iteration of her popping up. But now it's insane. I don't usually care if something likes something because it's "popular". It doesn't diminish the basic experience for me, but when people clearly don't care it still looks stupid. It's just incredibly frustrating to toe the line between gatekeeping and trying to avoid all fans of something because I feel gross.

More on topic, I love free candy and dressup. I think Halloween traditions are different in different areas, for example Dia de los Muertos which really means something. In the US it's a little more complicated because like Christmas, it's involved with holidays that got "cleaned up" by the church.
>>
I'm going to try and make my own witch hat, because all the ones I've been able to find online wouldn't match my coord, were ugly or super expensive.

>>9626086
This is adorable!
>>
Eurofag from an old bigoted country. Every year Halloween lovers have to suffer old people's crusade against the celebration. For them it's a way to celebrate Satan and a method to loose our precious culture~
If you want to party, you can only go to clubs sadly.
This year I'm planning a movie night with my bf and some friends, wearing a witchy coord. Nothing too fancy, I know.

I'm preparing by getting the accessories for my wedding dress. I getting married on Halloween because I'm so cliche and goth it hurts. But my fiance doesn't mind at all. In fact he was excited to wear whatever he wanted. He's doing Doctor Strange. Pic related. It's my dress. Small note that the black on the red are actually bats. I kinda went full ham on my designer.

Yeah also a britfag. They also should be giving you the measurements. If not vision express and specsavers (who I've used and have always given me the measurements anyway), sell a brand of coloured ones they deem safe. they're pretty basic but get fitted for those then get the measurement.
If not, go to a contact fitting, if they complain you don't need them, say you're a lookalike for someone and you need them for your job. Then they should comply.
Also vision express do offer's for free contact fittings if you dig about online.

Got my coord ready for the tea part at my local AP, been invited to a halloween party at my usual bar the saturday before halloween, and prepping a halloween lesson and costume for my students (going as Kiki from Kiki's Delivery Service)

My students (I'm an english teacher in Japan) are super fascinated by American Halloween. I used to work in a haunted house and they go nuts seeing photos of me in my old workplace. Ive already bought a ton of these and some american halloween candies, going to give em out to the kids stuffed with a few pieces of candy for answering questions and raising their hands on Halloween.

I landed a cute temp job at a Halloween store, and I'm having a blast. Although probably very little from there will contribute to my costume. I'm going to be a mushroom witch with my Crucis Lovely Mushroom JSK (Long v, Navy), and I'm making my own floppy red velvet witch hat. It's gonna be decorated with pearls so that it resembles an amanita cap. The underside is gonna be some beige chiffon if I can find some, to do the droopy mushroom folds. I have the bag in the picture, and another muchacha mushroom bag with a hand for a stem. I still don't know what I'm doing for legwear, but I hope Lily of the Valley has hers restocked in time.

Doing Sandman for a halloween parade, local thrillpark has open for halloween so i might do shironuri for that. Maybe find a club? I don't know, I never go out clubbing but I really want to attend a halloween party this year...

Well it's not all on the day itself (the AP party is the sunday before and the other party on the friday) but it'll be fun!

Well Halloween is pretty different in Japan. For one they dont do trick or treating. My kids just think its so weird. Its what gave me the idea to do the little jack o lantern treat bags, give them a little taste for what its like. They love the decorations, a lot of them are already up (hell you can even purchase halloween themed toilet paper) but they arent super big on the horror aspect? At least not in my area. They like cute costumes or an excuse to wear cosplay. They get halloween is supposed to be scary but traditionally the Japanese tell their horror stories in the summer (the claim it keeps them cool, at least thats what my kids told me) so you dont actually see as much spooky movies or ultra scary stuff in fall. Instead they just like the aesthetics mostly.

Haunted houses are also a little more rare and different over here. A lot are based on traditional Japanese horror where as for instance the one I worked at (pick related) was very much victorian horror so they love the aesthetic. I think really its just the cultural differences. They think of their halloween as very western since the whole holiday is western, so when they find out its not so similar they get surprised.

You should see their faces when I told them we do valentines really different than they do too.
>>
Oh man-- I'm getting so excited for Halloween! I usually celebrate for at least a week. Up until a few years ago I was running a large haunted attraction here in the city and that made doing anything for MYSELF a little tricky but I always make time to attend this amazing light up indy puppet show out in the woods.

if anyone is interested---> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUSb9apAt0A

Its called Barebones..these giant, ethereal puppets come swimming through the dark with the haunting sounds of a gypsy orchestra. I honestly cry every year. Its so magical and beautiful I am overwhelmed. Here in mpls we basically have 2 real seasons- winter and summer. When winter is over and we all come out on the first warm day there is a huge parade and it is may day and we all celebrate life and having survived another winter- but barebones halloween show is the spiritual opposite to that, its the time we reflect on those weve lost, death, and the end of the cycle.

(but yeah, thats my ONE go to every year. other than that i usually go out running round in costume, drinking and dancing a few nights)

Sign up for the gym and dedicate your entire mindset to becoming the most perfect version of yourself. It won't numb the pain, but it'll distract you, and if you're at rock bottom you may as well put yourself through all the suffering involved in self-improvement so you can take advantage of it when you feel better again.

At least, that's what I did. Learnt Spanish, how to code, and turned into an absolute machine after my uni sweetheart dropped me.

Listen, I'm not saying young people can't have meaningful relationships. I can see he meant a lot to you, clearly. But you have plenty of time to grow. College will change you - I know it changed me. You'll be able to study, go to the gym, join a club, all without worrying about neglecting your partner. We never get any trick or treaters at my house (like 5 at tops because we live on a hill) and I'm too much of a loser to go to any Halloween parties, but I'm still hype and buying decorations and plan on spookin up the house regardless. Last year I went trick or treating, but a few people commented on the fact I clearly was late teens+ (rude) so I don't know if I'll go again this year.

I'm going to be making the Sucy from this little piece of art though as my costume for this year and I'll probably go out the day or so before Halloween and get some photos taken for the holiday though at least.
>>
Blegh. I'm not feeling so ambitious the year, even though Halloween is my favorite holiday. Maybe because it falls on a Tuesday and I don't have as big disposable income as I used to, otherwise, I'd been considering doing an Effie Trinket or Siouxsie Sioux look, but I'd have no where to go since most friends work weekends and I'm too old to go to college parties. Siouxsie might be fine for work. Pretty sure there's a contest, but I don't care to compete. I just want to be comfy.

Looking forward to the Halloween meet up though. I wish my comm wasn't mostly sweet Lolitas, but suppose it's better than itas showing up.

Maybe I'll just wear lolita, watch spoopy movies/play horror games, and pass candy that night.

Seriously considering being Scary Terry for Halloween. My plan is to make some latex prosthetics for my face. My one concern is should I just go for it and make his scrotum chin (I was thinking of embedding 2 silicone eggs I found on amazon) or go for a more generic turkey waddle?

I've done something kawaii witch themed for the past 3 years so this year I'm changing things up a bit and doing a creepy cute lolita look. I've already got everything together except for my blouse but that's because the meet I was originally planning to wear it to was in early October but now I've found out there's another meet closer to Halloween.

Goth wedding in October sounds cool and all, but judging by what you posted, the execution sounds like it's gonna be tacky as fuck. I strongly suggest doing something less Halloweeny and more on the timeless side so that you don't regret it years later.

This year I'm staying home and passing out of candy for the tons of kids that come by my house (live near an elementary school and always go all-out with decorating the yard). For home I have an OTT vampire coord and can't wait to see the kid's reactions.

Trouble is I'm working that day. My office has a very lax business-casual dress code, but I have no idea how a more toned-down coord would go over with my coworkers. We have tons of new employees so I have no clue if anyone else will be dressing up either. I might just do some dramatic makeup and wear the fangs to avoid any issues.

Pretty basic closet medusa. Black sheet turned toga, fake gold snake earrings, spray gold some little snake toys and throw them in my hair, green makeup with I'm thinking picrelated eyes and a gold gloss.

Losing my job, finding another job, and then losing that job over the past few months.
Also, generally despairing because I have no way to celebrate my favorite holiday because I have no friends, never get invited to anything, and even trick-or-treating is dead so I can't dress up to hand out candy for kids.

Perhaps death will come mercifully soon.

Wait wait
You have no relationship with your parents, and he's sending you to college... Is he legitimately giving you an education?
Well either way, he plainly cares about you. If you are super serious about this guy, tell him you'd like to try putting things on pause rather than breaking up, instead.
That said, he's not wrong. If you're this hung up on him, it's probably a good idea for you to find something strong in your own life. Get a good education in a field that pays well--do not get a useless degree--and make something of yourself on your own.
Then, y'know, ask him out again.

I'm going to try to sew a skirt and put together a casual coord. I really wanted to get a Holy Lantern skirt/ socks combo on Lace Market this summer, but unfortunately I wasn't able to afford it. I've found a couple of pretty brocade fabrics that incorporate spiders, pumpkins, etc. I might just throw together a very casual coord, since I'm probably just going to a friend's party or staying at home.

>He's right, long-distance relationships are a mistake

No he just didnt want to try. Lamest ecuse to break up. He was probably just happy to have a reason to.

My fiance was long distance for a long time, it wasnt a mistake, both people just have to try.

Sorry for your shitty bf.
>>
Probably going to go to some parties as Sonny Crockett since I'm a lazy cunt and I'm a sucker for 80s stuff. I've already found some linen pants that are spot on and did some minor alterations, and I've been thrifting nonstop to find a suitable linen blazer.

>>
>>9627941
>>9636487

You are both wrong, long distance relationships can work, but ONLY if both people think it is worth the effort. If one person doesn't want to, it doesn't make them a shitty person, it makes them a person who knows they won't be able to pull their half of the relationship. Long distance relationships are very hard, it is not selfish to back out of one if you know you can't do it. That doesn't make long distance relationships a mistake, they can be very worthwhile.

Huh. Let me tell you about my story then? I was going to college in a city that is 7 hours away from my home city, and he lived in my home city. We met at a convention on september 15th. But I have to leave but we talked everyday after that. So he asked, will you be here at halloween? and I was like hell yeah. At halloween night we kissed for the first time and started dating officially.
After that I went to his city every two weeks for weekend. This was a rule.
And then, he graduated and moved to my city. Now we are living together and we're together since 7 years.

Tl dr you can make long distance relationships work if you really want it.
>>
>>9629662
I already go to the gym, started going with him and never stopped, I love it but it reminds of him. I could learn how to cook, I made him some pretty crappy stuff that he still ate with a smile. Maybe learn how to mix cocktails, when we went to bar that wouldn't card me I always thought it looked super fun. Rock climbing seems like a good time. And of course get more into cosplay, we only ever did go to one single con.

>>9634950
Probably explained it wrong. He's not paying for my tuition, my parents are, 4 years ago they got a bloody bitter divorce and none of them could be bothered to be burdened with me so the last thing they agreed on was to dump me in that fucking boarding school, they're busy gallivanting and being single again, I get the ocassional call and they wire me money but that's it. Not even for the holidays are they around, I spent them with his family.

Which is not to say he never bought me nice stuff, he did, a lot. Lots of shoes, lots of clothes, fancy underwear, an ipad, my cellphone, books, a fetish maid outfit I asked for in a misguided attempt at spicing up the relationship, our gym subscriptions. When we went to the movies, or took a nice trip somewhere.

>>9636426

My fiance lived 5 states away me! We needed each other so much we didnt end our relationship because of something as fixable as distance. I hate you people the most.

Just admit it was just convenient for yall to breakup, the love wasnt strong enough.

My street used to get trick-or-treaters but it's pretty much died off in recent years. I was thinking of going to my sister's (she's in a school area) and wearing my halloween coord so i can answer the door in style.

I agree--my fiance lived across the across the Canadian border and we're still together happily.

It was a month where sex started to slow down, he felt distracted and less passionate so I immediatelly started getting worried thinking he was getting tired of me or maybe there was another woman. I ask for his credit card, order the maid costume in secret, the thing is of surprisingly good quality. Anyway I surprise him one night with it and a silly french accent, backstory and everything. Long story short he was just swamped with work, there was no other woman, I was just being paranoid.
>>
>>9638932
I love how you act like your passion is somehow better and stronger than the girls that all worked towards being with your love.

Are you that dumb? Do you not see how your passion wasnt strong and you lacked the love needed? Youre trying desperately to feel like you are better than them by saying "oh yeah I WISH I could just turn off my passion" as if these girls can or did.

They didnt, they suffered through it, they did not "quell" anything you dumb bitch, they just used their passion to fuel their love.

Yeahh two hours away sounds like a dream. My fiance is a 20 hour flight journey away from me and I've been detained four times trying to go visit him within the four years we've been together.

Long distance relationships are very very hard but definitely can work as long as you both love each other and are willing to put in a bit of work and the occasional (more like often) heartache.

It's definitely worth it because he's on the bed behind me watching some stupid Twitch stream and our wedding is in three weeks.

I hope your relationships turn out/ stay amazing because it's definitely worth the effort when you find the right person.
