London Comic Con ~ Oct.13-15 ~ London
GTA Comic Con ~ Nov.12 ~ Oakville
Quinte Mini Con ~ Nov.18-19 ~ Belleville

>>
>>9626381
Attending Animara Con, Requiem, Thundercon(maybe) if not FCCC, Ottawa Geek Market, Fantasticon, QCCC, Geekfest, QMC and Pomtario.

Seeing this makes Quebec look like the new Ontario with all the cons we are having this year
>>
>>9626381
Hal-con, Capercon, Enbicon, and Animaine are all I got left for the rest of the year
>>
>>9626882
See you at Hal-Con!
>>
>>9626381
FCC = Alright con
HCC = Crap
LCC = Crap and overpriced
GTACC = Never heard of it
QMC = Hahahahahaha
EEE = Also never heard of it
Kupocon = Much excitement
DTAC = Went once, never again. $10 for just a dealers hall

>tfw Otafest Aurora's been canned in favour of holding crappy mini-conventions at places shared by normie festivals

Guess con heads haven't learned from all the criticism about normies harassing cosplayers over the July long weekend.
>>
What happened to nekko? I was hoping to see him at con bravo or the beach meet up but he never showed up like he said he would and he hasn't posted in a while. Has he finally given up?
>>
Newly moving to Canada this winter so I'm hoping to hit up Anime North 2018.
>>
>>9631467
Judging by discord he is either shitting up /fit/ or he actually got roped into a relationship and hasn't left japan yet. My bet is on the later one.
>>
>>9627991
FCCC is so comfy. I think LCC tends to get better guests overall, but I despise the venue. And anything that requires me to drag my cosplay clad ass into East London is just no bueno.

I wish FCCC had done two days this year as well.

Don't worry guys, he's back. He was just busy getting ready for his trip, and didn't have time to go to many events leading up to it.

Just a head's up, Next Music Tokyo Show is happening in a couple of weeks. The show is a bunch of indy bands from Tokyo brought over to perform in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver.

>>
Anyone going to the karaoke thing next weekend? Seems like it might not be half bad so I'm giving it a shot; I figure if it's cringey I only paid $5 and can just enjoy the venue for what it is while ignoring the weebfest
>>
Feel free to say hello if you're going!
>>
>>9631506
Don't bother. Unless you love tumblr politics, cosplay, and Western fandoms, it's shit.
>>
>>9637274
I think the con went pretty well today! Felt sorry for everyone in heavy costumes cause heat, but at least it was nice and cool inside.

I got some fun goodies from the dealer's room and had a good time overall, no ragrets

How did everyone else do?
>>
>>9639401
I was boiling in my costume, but ran into a quite a few friends, and met a lot of nice people too. Con felt a bit short though since it seemed to wind down much sooner than other cons.
>>
>>9639401
Really enjoyed the con this year. Just shame it couldn't be 2 days like last year
>>
My friends want to go to GenreCon this year, and I was wondering. How did everyone else feel about this con??? Any good?

I thought I'd share this in case anyone is interested in attending a small event this Saturday called Japonica. It's basically a small Japanese flea market to buy things like kimonos, tablewares, bento boxes, etc.

Can someone explain what the hype is about Kupocon? It's coming to Vancouver too so I had a look a the schedule, but it looks...boring, even more so than AniRevo. The swag doesn't interest me, maybe that's why? (I'm not into con specific merch). It's also a bit pricey for a one day event considering what is on the schedule.
>>
>>9642647
Garbage

They were dead and brought it back and still no one cares. We don't need another shillcon.
>>
>>9642963
I was hyped at the idea, but looking at what is involved with the con so far ... meh. There isn't anything particularly exciting in terms of panels, events or guests. I was excited about the swag at first because I thought it would be like a final fantasy lootcrate, but it sounds like it is going to be t-shirts and things with their logo on it. I'm waiting it out to see if they post anything worth paying $59 for.
>>
>>9629612
Yeah, I don't even get the logic in it. The reason that Aurora was not being held was so that they could focus on actual Otafest. Which okay, I get that; fair enough. Especially with it being moved back to May long (thank the gods) and it being their 20th and all that. But if that's the case, isn't holding these multiple mini conventions just as much work as Aurora?
>>

Just a friendly reminder that the Next Music Tokyo Show is happening this week. The show starts in Toronto for Friday and Saturday, moves to Montreal for Sunday and holiday Monday, and wraps up in Vancouver on Wednesday.

The show is a bunch of indy bands straight from Tokyo brought over to perform in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver.

>no Unplugged Expo
>FrostCon is truly kill
>Atomic Lollipop is kill
>Con Bravo apparently has financial issues
>no picnics ever
>no Centre Island picnic because of flooding or whatever
>if there's anything it's usually held at Seescape, which is often crowded and stuffy, fine for events, not really good for conversation
>the only constants are AN and whatever's at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, so stuff like Fan Expo

Really I think the only new things we've got were that new con at the Science Centre back in August, and then Anime Shogatsu back in January is still pretty fresh.

Aside from that though, what the hell is happening to this scene

>Really I think the only new things we've got were that new con at the Science Centre back in August, and then Anime Shogatsu back in January is still pretty fresh.
you forgot yeti con

>Aside from that though, what the hell is happening to this scene
over-saturation of market. there are too many cons and "meetup" events happening run by dickheads, so some of them have to start dropping off

I didn't hear anything about this. What happened
>>
>>9648176
The last time it was around was two years ago and we've heard nothing ever since.
>>
>>9648176
Supposedly they needed a new location to host it as it outgrew the Science Center, and there was a lot of property damage. But I heard a rumour that behind the scenes the organizers had a falling out of sorts and disbanded. This is just a rumour though and dunno if it's 100% true or not?
>>
>>9648004
Haven't heard anything from Shogatsu either. I emailed them a while back about dates and Artist Alley, but no reply, and no website update.
>>
>>9649630
They're usually a little later in the year with their announcements/applications since it's just a 1 day con. Last year I applied for the AA in November.

It's absolutely insane how these events aren't even more packed than they are.

For $14-20, you get 6 different groups performing of all genres. There's something for everyone and I wish the Toronto Japanese music fans came out in droves to show their support.

I have way more fun here than I do at a $150+ concert of kpop in Toronto and I met a lot of new friends through this.
>>
>>9654728
Sorry anon, you have me at a bit of disadvantage. Do I happen to know you?

Yeah, these concerts are great and a incredible value desu. I feel bad that the organizer (Steve) is basically a philanthropist and loses money running these concerts. So I try to help out a bit by advertising these events here and a few other places to get people to come out and enjoy the shows.

>it's another fucking See Scape event

Even if the distance wasn't an issue, I've been there once and once was enough. It's just so cramped and not really the best for conversation.
>>
>>9667065
Yeaaah I went to check out the last one and never again
With no ventilation to speak of (during the heat wave nonetheless) and everything being that cramped, I nearly passed out more than once. And then woke up sick two days after. Add in the drunken weeb yelling fuckin "YABBA DABBA DOOOOOOOO" every 30 seconds, the scream-sing karaoke guy trying to promote his brony record label, and the same couple people winning every single raffle prize they had available, and you can be sure I'm never going back for round two. Nooo thank you.

The concerts lean to indie and math rock but the last few have had an idol group on the lineup for variety. There were some penlights in the first night but only one sad fading glowstick on the second night :(. Here's a video from this year

Speaking of allegations, I heard Poynter Photography tried screwing some cosplayer over after getting butthurt over constructive criticism. I heard Poynter got him in trouble by hacking into his mom's phone number and getting her involved by texting her. God, how selfish and egotistical some people could be in the cosplay community screwing an innocent cosplayer over like this but then Poynter himself gets all the glory from cosplayers around him.....what a shame.
>>
>>9683533
Who did what now?
>>
>>9683533
>caring this much about some hack who calls himself a professional photographer when my grandma takes better shots with her cellphone

>>

his shoots are literally just $5 - 10 worth of him using a shit nikon camera without any filters or editing or equipment, and literally just photoshopping his name over his photos. also note some of his shoots are pornographic too...my broken xperia can provide better services.

>>9683686

>>
>>9687174
Jesus christ dude, did you even get to witness his personality at all? I heard he's so toxic to his friends and like... just talks to his fans for less than a minute too.
>>
>>9685308
>>9688082
Big, childish creep with glasses who's obsessed with Western cartoons. He's also an archetypical "nice guy" who's obsessed with cosplay girls. He blames his Asperger's Syndrome for everything, and back in March, he lashed out at another cosplayer (who also had Asperger's) who genuinely tried to give him warnings about his creepy behaviour.
>>
>>9686479

>>

>>
>>9685308
I know a friend that had a huge problem with him a few years ago. He would follow her around events and tried to friend her on FB more then 5 times even though she said she didn't want to add him, but he would keep asking expecting her to take pity on him or something? He uses his disability as an excuse to be a creepy asshole and doesn't want to change or do anything to make himself more tolerable to be around. Theres probably one person who puts up with him and he thinks that because one person is too nice to tell him off that theres nothing wrong with how he acts because "Hey well this person likes me so it must be a problem with you, not me" whenever people try to level with him and get real on how his actions come off.

He is very toxic and also a foot fetish guy, so girls should watch out doing shoots with him because he will be like tom savage and low key take foot pics for his spank bank.
>>
>>9688726
>uses his disability as an excuse to be a creepy asshole
>doesn't want to change or do anything to make himself more tolerable to be around

A disability might be hard to deal with but it simply explains how a person acts, and doesnt excuse them from any wrong doing they commit

And it sounds like he's committed a lot.
>>
>>9688726
Apparently even that one person knows what's wrong with Poynter.
>>
>>9688794
ya hes just too nice to say anything. Probably knows that hes his only friend and is scared poynter will hurt himself if he cuts ties
>>
>>9688726

Yeah, I am reading this comment you posted about Poynter and I seriously have to agree with you there. Like, it actually fills me with rage that he manages to be friends with some friends of mine (heck, even the most NEUTRAL people) in the cosplay community, when in reality he's doing really bad shit to some of my friends.....as well as creeping on girls for foot pics and taking their money.

And I have to say, how DARE people like he blame his Asperger's Syndrome on not only his creepy, but very narcissistic, egotistical, selfish, toxic and even manipulative behavior too. For him to blame his own condition like that just makes people who have Asperger's look bad, and it shouldn't be that way....like honestly.

Oh, and on another note....he is friends with Tom Edward Savage. I wonder why the resemblance of their photography career is so evident...!
>>
GTA cosplayers, I need some assistance! I've been trying to find some places that would work well as photoshoot spots for specific themes and am stumped. Anywhere that you guys would recommend for idol/stage themed photoshoots to resemble a performance? If I found some outdoor stages, would I need a permit to shoot there?
I'm trying to get some more story style photos done instead of the glamour shots everyone else has that doesn't require a permit of any kind

so, looks like Anime Shogatsu is taking place at the JCCC in January based on their teaser photos.

Is this going to make or break your decision to go for a 1 day con? It's really out in the middle of nowhere and after the one year APOP was there (and flopped imo) I don't think this is a great decision.

>>
>>9690432
If he's actually sexually harassed anyone, the latter. Otherwise, the former. Just my opinion though.
>>
>>9690440
This makes sense

After all the former's like a "be wary of this guy, he's a creep" and the latter's "stay away from this guy at all costs, he's an actual predator"
>>
>>9690443
is there any difference these days, though?
>>

Well... yes

The former is "this guy exhibits creepy behavior" and is more so that they haven't done anything specifically to hurt people but they give off a horrible vibe and could POTENTIALLY hurt people, while the latter... actually hurts people

Novii just had a bunch of chicks that didn't fucking know how to tell him to back off. Tom kept on posting underage girls on porn groups on DA and doing fetish photography in public and at conventions. Idn... i think they might just be both as bad.
>>
>>9691403
So where does Poynter stand?
>>
>>9691155
What >>9691298 said and post a pic of what you want to make so people can actually help you with it. A pair of tiny deer antlers is very different from giant ram horns.
>>

>>9691403
You know, it's really sad how some annoying kid yelling YABBA DABBA DOO gets banned from conventions and cosplay hangouts (and i admit that gets tiring after a while, i saw it myself) but then scumbags like Tom Savage and Poynter Photography who take feet pics of female cosplayers, sexually take advantage of them as well as manipulating them tend to stay in the community for as long as they can...

Absolutely sickening. And especially to spread such a toxic influence into the community as well as making excuses to stay relevant. Cosplayers new to those hacks will never know what they'll end up getting into before they get taken advantage of....!!!

We need to spread awareness to everyone about those toxic, manipulative fucks.... and possibly report them to convention staff WITH even screenshotted evidence when the time comes.
>>
>>9691711
Especially Poynter, he's a stereotypical "nice guy" who tries to come across as innocent and harmless, and probably legitimately thinks that he is
>>
>>9689527
Celebration square near square one in sauga? Dunno if you need a permit, but they have an outdoor stage that's usually blocked off during festivals. Might be available to shoot on during regular days though.
>>
>>9691155
To skip the middleman, i'm a long-time homestuck cosplayer and can hopefully answer your questions.

So long as you're wearing a wig, it's easy to go without a headband and just put screw anchors in some foam or tinfoil bases. Paperclay on top of that, then once its dry, sand for approx 100 years til its nice and smooth. Regular acrylic is fine on top of that, cheap stuff even. Water it down if your doing multiple colours so that the blending is nice. Kryolan sealer (can be purchased where you buy spraypaint- walmart even has it in the same shelf) over top of that. You can do gloss or mat finish, whatever you prefer.
My datemate's tutorial should cover it if you need a visual guide for anything, or just more details:

Hope that helps!

jccc is actually way more conveniently located for my sad scarborough ass so I might check it out after all, but I worry the location might make it less popular and a bit more lackluster? I havent had a chance to go before though, so I don't have much point of comparison.
>>
>>9688726
I heard similar stories about this guy. Where he would follow girls and wouldn't leave them alone.
I haven't heard about the foot fetish stuff of tom. Not about Poynter. is it on his facebook page?
>>
>>9692761
I have heard of tom. typo* I just haven't heard about foot fetish for Poynter.
>>
>>9688183
Yikes I remember this guy. How many of these allegations are true? I think he was quite awkward but didn't know he was dangerous.
>>
I used to have a screenshot of poynter commenting on a foot fetish post not realizing it was a mocking meme for foot fetish people, but the link doesn't work anymore for some reason.

It was something along the lines of ankle bracelets looking good on women, then had four pictures where the first three are barefoot women wearing anklets then the last was a barefoot woman wearing an ankle detector for home arrest. He comments like "i see nothing wrong here :)" thinking that it was about people shaming foot fetish guys, when it was fucking mocking them and he didnt even see the ankle detector, just a "sexy" bare foot.
>>
>>9692856
he's dangerous in the way that he doesnt know the meaning of the word "No" and uses his disability as an excuse for his creepyness. He won't change how he acts because he thinks that everyone else is in the wrong for discriminating against him and his disability, when he is the one who is being too creepy for even the nicest person to handle.
>>
>>9692768
He keeps it more under the covers than Tom does, but that is more creepy IMO because at least with Tom you know what you're getting. U dont know how actually creepy poynter is because he hides it more. Like.. what more do you have to hide other than the creepy stuff savage has done?

TL;DR:
>This happened during MTAC/March Comicon
>Person is friends with Poynter despite his annoying/persistent tendencies
>Friend needs to point out that Poynter is making their own friends uncomfortable
>Poynter uses one of his few other friends as justification for his behaviour
>First friend tries to reassure and teach Poynter
>Poynter blames other people for not liking him and calls them "judgmental pricks", as well as his disability despite the fact that first friend has the same disability
>Poynter ends convo with, essentially, "I CANNOT please everyone and I'll just be me"
>First friend gradually dropped Poynter as a friend after that point
>Throughout the whole convo and afterwards, Poynter hasn't considered for a single fucking second that he may be in the wrong
>>
That said, other than a few bad eggs like Poynter, the community seems to have gotten healthier since the unholy trinity of Antonio, Meltyfate and Vic Teresa fizzled out

Antonio = creepy cosplayer who ran the OCC and was constantly feuding with Roger and CHG, the OCC is now defunct and Antonio is less active in the comm
Vic = underage drama queen who manipulated and seduced guys and ruined their lives, and lied about her age until Toronto Life of all things revealed it
Meltyfate = Brigitte Quinn, was a very prominent cosplay drama queen in about 2015 but quieted down
>>
>>9693582

With all this talk about bad and creepy photographers, what are some good photographers in the GTA?
>>
>>9695122
That's a good question. There must be a way to publicly 'vet' normal photogs just as you can call out the creeps.
>>
>>9694305
there is a canada /cgl/ one but I dunno if you get banned for posting discords or not
>>
>>9695122
A lot of my usuals are currently inactive, but of the active I can vouch I've had nothing but good experiences with ConMom , Paul Hillier, and Mintley.
Alex Rose good in terms of quality + uncreepiness but I personally don't use them anymore bc of timing issues (there seems to always be some issue that means she's 5 months backlogged in editing or something).

I'll probably be trying out a few more soon and can report back with review/skeeve factor (I'd love to hear others' recs too!)
>>
>>9695132
wow, it's almost like we're on an anonymous messageboard where we can do exactly that
>>
>>9695222
Con Mom is a bit controlling when it comes to using her photos and submitting them places but it isn't much of an issue.
Alex Rose is taking a break from photography apparently for self-care reasons (possibly related to her backlog). She was bashed on this board a few months ago, but it's believed that a lot of it was Antonio and his cronies looking to give her a bad name.
>>
>>9695338
yeah I feel like it was because of that cosplay picnic thing she organised ages back? I might be mixing up people but I remember thinking it was a chg event at first and then hearing drama on here about it and about antonio getting salty when it got popular
>>
>>9695122
There are about 72 cosplay photographers within the GTA, Ottawa, Hamilton, Montreal, and the Niagara region. I will list the worst four in my opinion:

Burditt Photography
Does the "nice guy" thing like Poynter. So he's basically just friends with girls just so he can ask them out. He has drama with many cosplayers because of this.
He does little to no processing with photos, and has an old camera that is obviously showing its age. He seems to beg for photoshoots quite often.

Poynter Photography
He honestly doesn't know how to use a camera. He lingers around areas for too long. This could potentially be related to his Asberger's, since he openly uses it as an excuse for deliberately socially-inept behaviour. He seems to lack an ambition to learn or improve. His photos are bad with no work put into them at all.
You guys have already addressed the foot thing.

Tom
You guys seems to know that he is a man child.
He has a glue, foot and handcuff fetish, yet can't seem to take decent "sexy" photos. He will deliberately take photos in an upwards angle to emphasize his fat fetish, which makes otherwise attractive cosplayers look unflattering.

Novii:
He asks for sexual favours during photoshoots (ex: states that he gets "hard" during shoots and will ask the cosplayers to blow him). His Facebook page has seemed to be removed.
>>
>>9695723
>"hey could someone recommend good photographers"
>Here's a list of the ones I hate the most instead

Thank you for shitting up the Canadian community a little bit more.
>>
>>9695723
Novii has been laying low since all his shit boiled to the surface. Apparently is trying to get back in the photo game, which is sad
>>
>>9695915
How does one even recover from that? He basically just disappeared from the face of the earth.
>>
>>9693503
Antonio wasn't around anymore though? Or at least i wouldn't think so with how angry and weird he was.

Melty was a cosplayer who blew up years ago when pictures of her as Ryuko from KLK made their rounds on the internet before the series even premiered. I met her once and didn't have any problems or quarrels with her, but apparently bouts of instability and shit with Novii mid 2015 caused her to stop making costumes and going to cons until the past 8 months or so
>>
>>9695920
He already had a handful of girls groomed who keep a good word of mouth for him, but the amount of shit he's done has already spread anyway.
>>
>>9695122
Paul Hillier is great.
>>9695927
I met Melty years ago and thought she was nice, but felt bad for her later when i saw her plastered at the hotel. I don't drink much anymore as a result of that, and i'm glad she's gotten her life in order i guess
>>
>>9695920
he just keeps shooting insecure cosplayers who care more about photos than those favours
>>
>>9695915
Hopefully he's learned and isn't just trying to get back his successful thirsty predator status quo
>>
>>9696611
I need to find him and report him to the authorities for what he did.
>>
Quick q, are DTAC tickets only at the door, and is there usually a long wait or risk of selling out? Don't want to head all the way downtown just to find out I can't get in
>>
Besides QMC, Horror Expo and Toycon. All we got is POP's cons. Maybe he'll do us a favor and continue his expansion and take over the Quinte region. Heard that he might just be doing that next year or after
>>
>>9671061
Maybe they are focusing on other projects or gathering funds for future "gatherings"
>>
>>9693241
I wouldn't include him on their level of unholiness. He does mean well(if you exclude the "gathering" drama)

>>9693503
He is still around. Just not out and attending as many cons. Think he's going through some finical issues.

>>9693628
He's not as creepy as people here make him out to be or compared to other community serial creepers. Also what makes you say OCC is defunct, provide the proof! As I still see their page and group active. Also I still see him active within the larger community and not so much Toronto/GTA's cosplay community.
>>
>>9695378
She didn't even organize a cosplay picnic. She was doing shoots and said people could come if they wanted to, and a ton of people happened to decide to come
>>
>>9696738
Yes, and no

No one really buys tickets for DTAC. "Tickets" are basically just access to a dealer's room and artist alley. Everyone's still allowed in the lobby or near the area at least.
>>
>>9693628
There was no feud to be had until Roger and CHG ignored Antonio/Jax/OCC and local bylaws(don't know for how many year's they broke them). If they would have been more proactive and listened to the warnings people gave them about hosting events without a valid permit or within locations that couldn't host picnics/gatherings or actually attend their Kariya Park "picnic". I think none of the past year's drama, hate, harassment, bulling, etc would have occurred. Just if both sides would have acted like grownups on that day and solved things themselves before they escalated
>>
>>9695122
The YetiCon Gazebo has recommended some good solid photographers
>>
>>9695338
Got any proof that it was Antonio and/or his friends? Otherwise it's your word against his
>>
>>9696792
Didn't Antonio host his own cosplay picnic in High Park like around that same time though

and didn't have a permit either?
>>
>>9695723
I remember Burditt getting really creepy and thristy for some young lady cosplayer a few year's back. Think her name was Linnea or Brittany or something of the other. Thanks for all these photogo warnings
>>
>>9696800
He did. But Toronto parks staff allowed it to occur after checking it out for themselves after some people reported that it had gotten out of control and there were cosplayers everywhere. Least that's what I got from when I talked with one of them after they finished talking with Antonio. So seems some salty CHG (staff+fans) decided to get revenge and be like children and not take the high road, even though they hosted a totally illegal "gathering" within a park that can only host photoshoots, many a time.

But let's not go back down this dark road. As many other's have said in the past, we should just leave this between OCC and CHG staff and hope they both grow up and that we should let them solve their differences themselves and not harass either side.
>>
>>9696774
OCC has been dead ever since Frostcon. And now Frostcon is dead. So I am assuming OCC is dead now?
>>

Agreed. I'm tired of hearing about Antonio, Jax, OCC v Roger, CHG drama almost every thread. IT's none of our business and should be handled by them. But they gotta all do that themselves and having us all weigh in and harp/badger one side or the other isn't going to help matters.

It's a new con, and this will be it's third year running. This will be the first time it's hosted at the JCCC. Previously it was held downtown at the Michener Institute. I attended it last year, and the con was ok. It's kinda small like you mentioned, but that's to be expected since it's only a new one day con. This guy honestly doesn't get enough attention here. He's easily one of the worst offenders in the Ontario con scene IMO. He kind of flies under the radar because he's quiet.

He engages in some pretty predatory behaviours, however. He's in his mid 30s, but he looks young and lies about his age and will try to pick up girls as young as 16 (or even younger on occasion). He's very insidious. He tries to paint himself as the nice guy and the victim (he has no friends because he's managed to alienate everyone) and will try to guilt you into feeling sorry for him. He will then try to separate you from your group and make a move when you're alone. He's been called out on Facebook numerous times and sics his lawyer on people to suppress them. He also has had a peace bond (restraining order) taken out against him and has been arrested (but ultimately not convicted) of sexual assault.

Bottom line, ladies: if you see him, do not talk to him. Not even with a group of people. He will attach himself to you, he will try to split you up and get you alone, and he will try to manipulate you. Do not buy anything he says, do not go anywhere with him, and do not give him your contact info.

Steve is a very bad man.
>>
>>9708675
One time, I couldn't tactfully avoid talking to him, as he tried hitting up a conversation with me and I couldn't bring myself to walk away or say "fuck off", especially because it seemed like he was doing nothing wrong at the time. However, he was just... completely insufferable. At some point I just wanted him to shut the fuck up and I just said screw tact, I just walked away once there was a break in whatever he was saying. He gave me such an awful vibe. My story isn't that eventful compared to what I've heard though.

I've heard nothing but awful, awful things about this guy, especially in regards to how he preys on younger girls and always tries to play the victim. I'd always hear from younger cosplayers (who are all female at that) that they felt extremely unsafe around this guy. Even when I saw him at events I'd overhear him trying to flirt with or hit on people in a rather desperate manner. It's... pathetic.

I feel like he probably didn't get much attention here because he's not a cosplayer or a photographer or anything but he still showed up to events and thus WAS a part of the scene. I say was because I think he's trying to lay low like Novii.
>>
>>9708718
See, this is the thing about Steve that most people don't get. They think he's oblivious, but he's not. He knows people don't want to be rude and he uses that desire to insert himself into groups so he can target girls. Steve knows the things he does are bad, he even expresses remorse (or at least makes a show of doing so), but he still does them. That, to me, makes him much worse than someone who's just creepy because they don't understand how they're perceived.

Steve knows very well how he acts, he's just manipulative and narcissistic enough to be able to twist it around in his head to justify his actions. "Oh, well, yeah, 16 is young, but if she's with me, she'll know what it's like to be with a proper gentleman, so she won't date assholes in the future". He's honestly able to do mental gymnastics to turn himself into the good guy in any scenario.

He really is a sick person and girls should feel unsafe around him. I don't know the details surrounding his rape case, but he did get arrested, he did spend time in jail, and there was a trial, so it was a relatively serious thing, whatever it was. I, personally, have seen him do very scummy and predatory things with girls half his age.

He seems nice at first, but he's not nice. He is manipulative and selfish and he uses people, and if you give him even the slightest opening, I promise you will regret it. Every single person who has given him a chance so far, myself included, has. You will not be any different.
>>
>>9708718
Well, he DOES cosplay, just not well because he's cheap/poor, so he just throws on a green vest on top of a grey sweater with a green hat and goes as Link. I doubt he's laying low, he's probably just low on money and couldn't find a way to bum a free room/tickets off someone. He'll be back.
>>
>>9708739
Preyed on younger girls? Obviously, they're more attractive. Predatory behaviour? Oh so he made a move, like men are supposed to. Get over it you hags. Stop male shaming.
>>
>>9708743
Get off 4chan, Steve.
>>
>>9708739
He seems like such a "Nice Guy" ™ in the sense that he's the furthest thing from nice. And if he KNOWS what he's doing is awful and still does 'em anyway to basically manipulate others... that's even more awful.

Like if you don't know you're being creepy or weird but you do stuff anyway, sure that's not good, but you're also ignorant and unaware of your behavior. There's the possibility for growth. A time to step back and think "how do I better myself?"

And if you don't know you're like this and refuse to change, that's bad. If you DO know you're like this and you fucking revel in it then that's just... fucked up.

He likes to think of himself as a nice, genuine, upstanding guy, but at the end of the day, when push comes to shove, as long as he gets what he wants, he doesn't really care. Morality is being good when it's difficult, not when it's easy.
>>
>>9708743
He followed the sister of a friend of mine, who was 15 at the time, around for hours making "jokes" about how it was ok if they dated because she would be 16 soon. He also repeatedly groped her and tried to put his arm around her waist while he was walking with her. He was 33 when this happened. That is not just being a dude, that's predatory.
>>
>>9708786
Well that's gross and sounds just like him! A couple years ago when I was 19 he followed me around all day and kept trying to touch me and getting me to come out for coffee with him even though I have a boyfriend! He's disgusting and creepy and made me feel super uncomfortable.

Novii is a classic example of someone who has more money than sense when it comes to understanding reputation.
A hobbyist with a full-time job and salary that dropped thousands of dollars on equipment for specifically cosplay photography.
He has(had?) a very simple style of just shooting in the shade when it's not too dark. This makes the lighting even and allows for a lot of photoshop while still looking good and sharp. Most photographers over-complicate things instead of sticking to fundamentals and they suffer because of it. Not Novii.
Unfortunately most of this over-complication in shoots is because when you start with shit equipment you have to jump through hoops to get images that look genuinely nice. Even with amazing light it's not the same and good luck using only OK light. Novii understood this and lived it as X11-whatever. When you've got a 35mm 1.4 prime on a fullframe it really opens doors and simplifies things.
Then to top it off he was very motivated and dedicated to shoot often. I'm pretty sure he would just drive everywhere too which made organizing things with models really easy.

The problem was the motivation came from demonstrating a high value so he could get laid. Without that hype train going why would he desire to be "THE" GTA cosplay photographer as he once was?
Suddenly shooting those groups of meh cosplayers with their ebay sports anime outfits for 40$ a piece all weekend on your time off is a lot less appealing when you can't leverage all that cosplay community 'charity work' you do with the less-than-hot to build trust with hotties you want to bang and become part of their ironic-meta-inside joke circle. For a dude with Novii's looks using photography as a way to demonstrate high value is a great way to avoid becoming a Beta Orbiter.
I can see Novi doing some stuff for people he worked with previously for their Patreon feeds or whatever, but the dream of the Novii Hype Train riding again is all but dead.

How do you get back into the scene after having vicious rumors spread about yourself?
>>
>>9712386
Are you referring to Novii or to yourself, and if so as a cosplayer or photographer?
>>
>>9712462
Novii is dead, guy will never be able to get back into the community after leaving for a year, or at least he'll never be able to shoot all the pretty cosplayers again.
>>
>>9712386
You don't.

Once the damage is done, that's never getting repaired. Apologize and make amends all you'd like, it won't mean a damn.
>>
>>9712386
Just slowly make your way back in to the scene, If they were only rumors you can show people that your different then what people say about you.

If they weren't just rumors take some time and slowly prove to people that your improving yourself. I'm sure any reasonable person understands that people change.
>>
>>9712614
>show people that you're different than what people say about you
>or slowly prove to people that you're improving yourself

Your best bet here would just be to find people who don't know about you in the first place. Take in what you've learned in your time of exile and be a better person. Turn over a new leaf in a sense.

Because 9 times out of 10, the people who are either spreading rumors about you, or worse, the people who you DID hurt, they'll refuse to accept or acknowledge any change, no matter how hard you try.
>>
anyone go to kupocon? Was it worth it?
>>
>>9712665
Seconded. It's usually best to find a club or a circle of friends where people are willing to accept and help you, and grow from there.
>>
>>9712386
Honestly, find people your old crew never hung out with. Whether that means hitting cons they don't go to, trying US cons, whatever. If someone eventually brings up your past, clarify for them, but let that happen on its own. I mean, so long as theyre Just Rumours and shittalking, not you actually having done terrible things to people.

I split with a girl and afterwards she decided the best way to not see me around anymore was to get no one to talk to me any way she could. People i'd only spoken to once suddenly had me blocked on all social media. It made it very hard to continue doing conventions at all, so I just started from scratch elsewhere and slowly worked my way into the swing of things again. I still see her at cons, shes still catty and loves to do the highschool 'whisper to friend and laugh' bullshit, but the crew i hang out with now doesn't live for the same sort of drama and its easier to shrug off her crap knowing they have my back.

It's possible, anon. It just takes time, and going into it knowing you want to hang with better people.

speaking of hypocrisy, does he think this only applies to cosplayers and not photogs, or did he not even read the comment he's replying to? I havent encountered most of the other stuff people are saying about him here but twice now he's tried to butt into the middle of my paid photoshoot with another photog to try and take his own unflattering shots without asking and it just comes off as incredibly rude
>>
>>9713155
>twice now he's tried to butt into the middle of my paid photoshoot

When did he do this?

That's pretty poor form of him either way. Generally when people are busy during a photoshoot, you leave em be.
>>
>>9713157
I once withnessed him stand off to the side when another photographer was shooting and the SECOND he got an opening he marched nto the shot and handed over his card and said "I am doing paid shoots, I might be able to fit you in" He then walked off as the photographer tried to continue his shoot. Marco is the number ONE shoot interuptor. This is secondary only to the fact that he told my friend that he needed permission to jerk off to her. This guy is slime.
>>
>>9713157
>When did he do this?
I don't really want to out myself in case he ends up reading these and gets angry or something, but just at local cons when we're shooting around/near the venue itself
>>
>>9711961
Don't flatter yourself Novii
>>
>>9713509
So is he like the new Tom? Or is he just impressively worst?
>>
>>9713564
>So is he like the new Tom?
Nah not to downplay how annoying he is but as far as I know this guy's just rude and obnoxious, rather than flat out predatory
>>
>>9712874
I went with a friend since im not too into FF and I had fun! It was a cute small con.
>>
>>9713571
I was with a group of friends and he out right tried to sedice my friends girlfriend...Marco tried to hold her hand...offer her foot massages and when he was called out on it said he had asberbers. That was SEXUAL ASSULT that he did in front of ten people. I would call him predatory.
>>
>>9713571
Nice deflection attempt Marco
>>
>>9713574
I have Marco on FB he is legit whining about this tread so I can imagine he will do everything n his power to keep people talking about other people than him

I imagine he will do everything in his power to not change himself for the better

Thus giving people a reason to still keep talking about him here

while definitely creepy and probably qualifies as some major harassment I don't think you're quite understanding the meaning of that word
>>
>>9713574
nah just me >>9713155 based on my own experiences/what I'd heard until now. Figured he was just awkward and rude, but like no worse than the average convention cringelord.
if guy's a legitimate threat though that's another matter entirely
>>
>>9713626
>touching a woman without her permission

It might as well be sexual assault
>>
>>9713575
I hope he sees all this and realizes how much everyone hates him and how he should stop trying. If he isn't willing to change, he shouldn't be allowed around other people, yet alone pretty cosplayers that he wants to be photographing.
>>
>>9713685
We all have flaws, but his biggest problem is his stubbornness, his refusal to change, and how he blames all of his woes on his Asperger's Syndrome instead of his refusal to learn. Fact: 50-75% of the cosplay community is on the spectrum too and you don't see us creeping around and being obnoxious like Marco is.
>>
>>9713571
OK MARCO
>>
>>9713575
Do you have his response to this thread? I would LOVE to see it.
>>
>>9713574

No seriously, some people who dislike Marco haven't seen his predatory side for themselves. Marco probably thinks he's nice, that he's an outcast, and that he's special.

Marco sexually harassed my friend online last year and was lurking around her like he wanted to come talk to her. We made a protective shield around her so he could not. We filmed him lurking and sent it to the people running the con. They have already sent a message back. Guess what...he is likely to be officially banned!

AN early bird reg is back for 2018, attendance drop must have hurt

I thought based on official numbers that last year was still one of if not their highest attendance despite that? I think sales were just slower/more spaced out because nobody was really in any rush to get them before finalizing the rest of their plans
>>
>>9720102
I would say they are garbage cosplayers. Most of them seem young so they probably do not have money to afford a good photographer.
>>
>>9719443
>>9719066
im actually curious about this as well, ive never seen the tom poster.

Basically what happened
>>
>>9720286
You're mistaken, attendance dropped last year and they didn't sell out of weekend passes. I'm guessing they're wary and decided to reintroduce the early bird discount, especially considering the hotel debacle.
>>
>>9725056
Many people I spoke to felt with the hotel changes that it wasn't worth investing into Anime North and to put funds into other cons like colossal con or Yeti con. From what they told me that it was more the hanging out then the con itself that matter. The con for them was an after thought. Con Bravo also turned into that as it was a shit show this year for some people.
>>
>>9725599
what what was wrong with conbravo this year? We went and had a great time, no issues at all
>>
>>9725599
>>9725628
Mostly for me it was the games room which I heard they had to move to 1up down the street. It wasn't a big deal in the end but it felt shitty to have to walk. I don't think it was a decision they controlled though
>>
>>9725056
Hopefully, attendance will continue to drop, staff will notice, and they'll finally get their sticks out of their asses and improve the con. I'm surprised people even bother with the con at all when the staff on their FB page present themselves as being totally unable to handle criticism like adults.
>>
>>9725764
Ah, I love drama over a baby photo.
>>
Sup!

Is it the only Canadian thread here? I wasn't able to find another one, although I currently live in Ottawa;
>>
>>9626381
Someone should make a new thread for any of the up coming cons for next year. I only know MTAC and anime shogatsu.
>>
>>9731818
Yes, this is the Canadian thread though it tends to become a GTA thread. Oh cool, I'm currently living in Ottawa too. There's not much to do here con-wise though.
>>
>>9731838
There's also Anime North, Yeticon... Uh... Con Bravo? Cosplay Matsuri if that's coming back? And then Fan Expo.

I think FrostCon and Unplugged are kill. Atomic Lollipop is super kill because they've been completely silent about it in the past two years.
>>
So Anime North is reopening their forums and they're not going to allow feedback or criticism or anything but event signups. Have you ever seen such fragile people?
>>
and as always, literally no one cares about these no-name dub VA guests.

>>
>>9734041

>>
>>9734041
vote with your wallet and stop supporting AN. go to cons that listen to their congoers and actually offer programming and guests that are worth something to you. AN is beyond saving at this point.

Seriously, AN has been shit for years. They're full of the kind of extreme leftists who need safe spaces. Just look at their panel selection. I don't get why people spend all sorts of money to attend it anymore. Brand loyalty?
>>
>>9734569
Lol they just announced a bunch of no name guests, they never seem to learn do they?
>>
>>9736363
Even though AN is shit and a waste of money for a lot of resons, those guests are hardly no-name to dub fans. They've done lead roles in some popular shows. I'd wouldn't call the guy who does the voice of the MC in Yuri on Ice a nobody.
>>
>>9736309
Much of the Toronto community (and younger cosplay communities in general) is like that, full of LGBT people with depression/anxiety of some sort
>>
>>9736563
A large portion of AN attendees aren't from Toronto, though.
>>
>>9736309
I don't understand the need for safe space... Anime expo information booths are called "safe spaces".
>>
>>9736563
What's really sad is that the people we are talking about (AN staff on FB and the forums) are not kids. I mean, younger people being anxious/depressed and unable to handle criticism is annoying, but a bit understandable because they're young and a lot of us went through the same kinda thing. It's normal development. The people we're talking about are much older (30s, 40s, 50s). Holy shit.
>>
>>9737094
I'm talking about the "leftists who need safe spaces" part.
>>

>I'd wouldn't call the guy who does the voice of the MC in Yuri on Ice a nobody.
>I wouldn't call the guy that I don't know the name of a nobody
Am I the only one who sees the irony here?
>>
>>9738090
I didn't mention it because no one asked. Point is... Josh Grelle can't be getting huge roles such as that one if he was truly a "nobody". Yuri on Ice, like it or not, is the most popular anime to have come out in the last year and a half outside of shounenshit. It is just that you don't probably don't follow dubs.

J. Michael Tatum definitely isn't a nobody either. At this point, he's one of the most popular actors among people who watch dubs, and his panels are always well-attended.

Japanese guests don't tend to get announced for AN until 2 months before the con. This is how it's been for many years. They're considered "bigger" guests because they cost a lot more and have more of an international following. This doesn't make dub actors nobodies, since there still are and always will be people who like dubs. They have fans and people who will attend a con to see them.
>>
anyone gonna bother to stay up for the early bird tickets?
