>gib me monies plz
>>
a thread died for this post
why
>>
GOD i hope this con is a fucking dashcon tier dumpster fire
>>
I can't believe they emailed three years of attendees begging for donations to keep this confidential afloat. Please just do the humane thing and let Shito-con die already
>>
1. Why do they have an unexpected bill?

2. What's the drama that people keep alluding to in the comments? (Aside from Shuto being an SJW hugbox con.)
>>
Drama that I'm aware of:
Conchair left her co-conchair husband (who she has a daughter with) for a girl she met on the internet who was also leaving her husband.

Stephanie (conchair) keeps pushing these generic plushie kickstarters and crying to as many FB groups as she can when no one is preordering

Shuto is a for-profit con and more than likely the primary income of Stephanie/her new girlfriend (who is also now a core staff of Shuto), so it suddenly being so out of money seems super suspicious

It's been years since the failed random battle con and they fundraised to recoup those losses too, which is super coincidental that this con is sudden broke now too

If you donate ten dollars you get 10$ con cash to be used at 'participating vendors and artists' but no word on how many vendors and artists agreed to accept the coupons, essentially making them con cash useless
>>
Also comments are being deleted left and right in the Facebook group if they don't conform to the appropriate level of asspats Stephanie and Co are looking for
>>
>>9631769
>1. Why do they have an unexpected bill?
Divorce costs probably.
>>
As an artist, fuck that con cash system what the fuck
>>
Olol
>>
Maybe sjw re-education rooms cost a lot more than Shito-con had expected
>>
I have a feeling the financial troubles started after the failure of Random Battle Con. Which brought in a whopping 300 attendees for a 2 day con. The con chair got a taste of success and it's gone to her head.

Stefanie has no job, and no income aside from shitty plush kickstarters she pushes every 5 minutes. I'm betting the con debt is money she used to support herself/kid/also unemployed girlfriend.
>>

>>9632289
Yeah, they say they will reimburse the artists but they are clearly shit at managing money, so who is to say they will have any? They've also scammed people they owed out of money in the past.

When they started paying volunteers they "forgot" to collect any contact info from said volunteers so they had no way to mail checks out. They made a post in the group saying that people had to send their contact info by the end of the day to get paid or they would just "donate" the money back to the con. The made the post at like 8pm.

There is a LOT of contradictions going around right now, like that they already have special musical guests but they won't announce them (early) unless they meet their fundraising goal? This whole thing stinks more and more with every bumbling response from staff I see.
>>
>>9632340
don't loans kind of, you know, need to get paid back? it's not free money. does their money tree sprout in a week and they need to float the funds til then?

I can buy two NESes at a flea market and bang them together on stage in front of a mic. Give me a call, Shitocon.
>>
>>9631120
It'll be fucking icing on the cake if they have to beg for money at-con like Dashcon did.

So I've done work for RBC on the promise that I would be paid at the end of the con. GO FIGURE when it was time to get paid at RBC they said "No money left, will you take a free registration to Shutocon?"

>>

>>

>>

>>
If you are 6k out of budget with 65 USD tickets you need to take a long hard look at your business model because you either don't have a safety contingency, haven't properly accounted for all of your expenses or you are overestimating your revenue flow. Or you are trying to scam people, in which case you don't care.
>>
>>9632483
The family (current and ex) have a naive understanding of businessing, and often seem to have a pretty unclear distinction between "operating for profit" and "donating". Joe's kickstarter for the con VR business was pretty much "save me from having a shaky business model".
>>
Shutocon has been going downhill for years.
>>

My favourite thing is when she's bashing other people for making derivative Undertale art when she's made the exact same sort of thing.
>>
>>9632558
I seem to remember she had a big blow-up on AANI because of some embroidered tote bags or something she was selling using the sprites from undertale and she claimed it was original/unique because it was a lot of work to program the embroidery pattern
>>
So looking at the website they have zero musical guests, some shitty tumblr "artist", and a couple of VAs that probably won't end up showing up once they realize the con can't pay their fees. Yup, totally worth $60.
>>
>>9632560
Haha, yep, that's specifically what I'm remembering. And you know what, I'm not even contesting the fact - maybe it is a lot of work. I personally don't have a lot of issue with derivative art that doesn't take the market away from licensed work. It's the hypocrisy that just tickled me to no end. Loved it, would salt again!

>>
Stefanie says she only wants constructive criticism, and that's fair. People screaming at her that she sucks and shouldn't run the con anymore isn't constructive. So here you go Stefanie, because I know you're reading this.

Stop. For your own sake. Stop. Stop taking on debt. Stop alienating yourself from your friends. Stop busting your ass for something that just isn't working.

Shuto was a nice, chill con, five years ago. Conventions have changed, and Shuto hasn't changed with it. For all the lip service that you pay to Shuto being an inclusive space, your con feels more and more hostile every year, and there is going to be a point where you won't be able to get back to where you were.

How much debt are you willing to go into for this con? Your reputation is getting more and more damaged by the HOUR. I don't say this out of dislike for you, but instead, ambivalence and respect for another human being. Don't destroy your credit and your life for an anime convention.

Honestly I'm just surprised that it's been a week since Facebook con communities were in a riot about it and expected it to be a hot topic here because it seems like something this board would jump on the moment word started going around. I dislike having multiple threads for con drama/gossip so I don't want to make one myself, but if someone else wants to:

Joe, my mortgage payment is very real as well, but before I bought the house I budgeted for the possibility I may need a new hot water heater or a new roof. Having just enough money for the bare minimum expenses is piss poor planning and in no way the responsibility of the con community to pick up the slack. If I wanted to go to a 65$ con, I'd at least go to a good one.
>>
>>9633405
That white lead body paint doesn't pay for itself, chief.
>>
Has there been any official word on what these not scam, totally real unexpected costs were?
>>
>>9633524
From what I've been able to look into, it's because they had a lower attendance than expected and put way too much into their guests. That sort of hit can really be a cons undoing.
>>
>>9633530
That's not an unexpected bill though. That's an unexpected shortage of income. Not really the same thing
>>
>>9633530
what? when you're a massive cunt to your attendees, staff your con with actual idiots, piss off everyone who wants to see you succeed, and then tell people they can't walk around with their friends because MUH SPACE, people don't want to come

HOLY SHIT I HAD NO IDEA

Plz tell us how to run our con
>>
>>9633959

So several years ago, Stefanie decided the con needed to be a Safe Space, so part of the con initiative was that staffers were listening for wrong think words, pulling the people aside and telling them "We can pull your badge and expel you from the con, or you can come with us and have a talk about why those words are bad, if you do, you can stay."

The SJW re-education camp was born.
>>
>>9634064
After years of not listening to people and attendance going down, maybe figuring out what people want is an option. Or just waste the proceeds on a "gaming" con that is almost completely Yugio and some shitty fighting game, and some random board games. Or just waste the proceeds on an LGBTAQ+ con because when I think of gay fun, I think of dour tone police telling everyone else how to live their lives. Oh wait, I don't.
>>
I live in the area and while I want a con here, Shutocon has become so bad. I have worked at 3 other cons that were bigger who never asked for donations because they couldn't pay it in full. It's so unprofessional, AND badge prices were near Youmacon prices this year, which is ridiculous. I know some staffers who are abandoning ship, but I also know one person who passionately keeps trying to excuse the situation.

Watch as Morgan takes it over or something. I wouldn't be surprised.

I see shes in AWA's AA. what i dont understand is why all her staff people are saying literally the same thing. Almost copy/pasting and none of them seem to think, maybe we shouldn't say "we will pay this even without donations."

because saying that makes this seem like a scam. they claim to not NEED the donations, but are begging for them.
>>
>>9634884
She is being watched. We are aware of the situation.
>>
>>9634884
That is the part that still irks me, why broadcast that the expenses will all be paid with or without this 9k 'donation'? That completely de-legitimizes the whole thing, granted it probably wasn't very legit to begin with, but that just completely blows the whole cover. If all bills are paid without donations, why ask for donations? If special musical guests are already secured, why promise them as a stretch goal?

This is the worst thought out scam I've ever seen. I do like the nice touch of using EventBrite to collect the donations though. No one can verify if they've hit any of their goals, so they can keep begging for money endlessly. At least with a YouCaring or GoFundMe outside folks can see how much has been raised.
>>
>>9634988
Maybe raid the Eventbrite with flags stating this is a scam?

Didn't she have a conspiracy theory that Gencon was scheduled so close to Random Battle Con to "kill" her con? Presuming I have my conspiracy theories straight:

A: Like anyone gave a shit enough about her sad Yugio and three console fighting game con to "sabotage" it.
B: Like anyone at Gen Con knew anything about Random Sad Con.
C: Like anyone who had the time and money to go to Gen Con and a local con would go to a bad-looking local con.
D: If you think Gen Con is your competition, you've already lost. Roll saving throw versus stupidity or die.

I mean, hell, I like board games, but I don't like collectible card games. I like videogames, but I don't like fighting games. And ironic videogame musical guests, the mere idea makes me cringe. I'm in both of your core audiences, RBC, and you managed to practically beg me not to attend in a way only slightly more effectively than if you had sent an engraved invitation carved into the back of a dump truck carrying a hundred incontinent babies.

Good job.

I like Rock Band, though, so I guess you didn't fuck it up completely. Gratz?

Check this out. Not only is Shuto begging for money for their con, they are spamming groups to fund their Kickstarter (joint company between Stefanie and her GF) that is ALREADY FUNDED. This is shady af.
>>
>>9636052
It's because the way she set up the kickstarter it's not actually viable until it hits the 6,000 stretch goal (the kitsune doll). The 2,200 goal is just some keychains but obviously since all the suckers that made pledges did it for the actual stuffed toy, they would drop out at the end if the stretch goal isn't met, leaving not even enough money for the key chains to be funded, so nobody gets anything. Why set it up like that in the first place?

Wait so her husband just put up with his wife going out and fucking this other chick until she finally left him for her?

I wouldn't be surprised if she let her do it out of pity honestly.
>>
>>9636711
Oh, it's so funnier than that.

They had an "open relationship", which is often a tool the man uses as an excuse to talk the wife into letting him try "exciting new things" such as introducing third parties into a relationship to cause simmering resentment into a relationship that already isn't working. Exciting!

So, apparently, he tried his hands at this, often by trying for the desperate pity-fuck angle within his extended friend circles and con attendees, and wasn't as successful as she was, possibly because her standards were lower.

So one day, lo and behold, "they" had a new girlfriend, but only she was talking about her in raptuous terms as if it were a life-changing event. We could all see where this was going - it was more "her" girlfriend than "his" girlfriend. Joe was super supportive, too, and we knew this because she told us he was. Eventually, he did, too.

Shortly after, she tried on her genderfluids, because gender non-conformity is, to her, a mere fashion statement one has when one wants to enjoy a bit of androgyny and wear pants instead of a dress and have a girlfriend instead of (whoops, spoiler) I mean in addition to a husband. We could all see where this was going. Joe was super supportive, too, and we knew this because she told us he was. Eventually, he did, too.

Her new girlfriend was SUPER SUPPORTIVELY ASSPATION about everything she ever posted, which honestly is all one ever needs out of a girlfriend, amirite? It's a match made in heaven. Certainly better than a relationship with pre-existing complications - romantic, financial, and otherwise - and with no dangerhair to boot.

And then the payoff. She went to her faceblog and pounded one out, because everyone needs to know every aspect of her personal life. She was too genderfluids to have a husband, but everything was super cool with Joe, who was super supportive and everything was super because it was super and super. And the GF was "proud" of how mature they were both being.
>>
>>9636725
Woooooooooooooooooooooooow.

I knew one guy who did a similar thing. Had a bunch of fuck buddies, fell in love with one of them but didn't want to give up the harem, who he thought loved him. She fucks a bunch of guys until she finds a dude in a gender flipped relationship who's scamming his girlfriend for money. They try to make it a foursome, but the hangers on don't get along.

Out of no where everyone leaves everyone else.

>
So, apparently, he tried his hands at this, often by trying for the desperate pity-fuck angle within his extended friend circles and con attendees, and wasn't as successful as she was, possibly because her standards were lower.

Delusions of grandeur, how hilarious.

Of course she has PCOS, and depression, and pink hair. Doesn't every single tumblr SJW begging for money from strangers?
>>
>>9636725
Peak tumblr. That kid doesn't stand a chance.

>>9636404
whoever this was, well done.
>>
>>9637217
sometimes they have blue hair
>>
>>9636890
this bitch looks like danny devito
>>
>>9636736
>Wait you are forgetting about Nancy's boyfriend who was another unfortunate casualty in this mess.
No I'm not. I never knew! The plot thickens, this is a fun new angle for me, much appreciated!
>>
>>9637192
What's a "con currency"? Is that a plush Pokémon that looks like Squirtle fucking a $25 dollar bill?
>>
>>9637487
It's shutocon issued gift certificate, that maybe artists an vendors will take?
>>
>>9637617
I wouldn't.
>>
>>9637446
Hey now don't you go insulting Danny DeVito now.
>>
>>9637793
fuck, you're right, that was rude and thoughtless of me, I'm sorry danny, danny devito is a talented entertainer and giving philanthropist who speaks honestly and from the heart

all things that goblin and stefanie probably know nothing about
>>
I run a convention. It is not based in MI or anywhere close to it. I've been sitting in the background watching this unfold. This is showing me everything on what not to do if we ever get low on funds.

Thanks Stef/Shuto Con.

I wonder if shuto will pull through from this. With most cons the average attendee is pretty much deaf to any behind the scenes drama but shuto email blasted everyone who's bought tickets about their financial woes. A lot of people might reconsider about buying tickets when the con has money problems & apparent mismanagement. I'd assume they will have to cut back on programming in order to get their debts paid off
>>
>>9638043
Well if you are talking about the fan-run panel portion of programming, that doesn't really cost them anything since they've stopped reimbursing panelist badges and show no sign of bringing that back. For running like 4+ hours of programming you are rewarded with a t-shirt, whereas every other con I've done panels for I either got a discounted badge or a completely free badge.

As a panelist I'm not really looking to pay shuto to have a space to provide my content, especially since the atmosphere is so much more like a day care than a fan gathering. I'm essentially paying the con for the privilege of presenting my panel and watch their ill behaved attendees, which is definitely how I want to spend my weekend.
>>
>>9638077
I'm talking about the stuff a badge price usually covers, like guests, musical acts, gaming, dances, prizes for contests, program booklets, etc. They have said that they're revisiting their policy of not reimbursing panelists at all, so there's that, I guess.
>>
>>9638100
I really hope they don't try to bring FreezePop back, that year was a disaster
>>
>>9638193
FreezePop? I haven't heard this one yet.
>>
>>9636216
Youmoucan doesnt seem fun either. Both cons seem to serve very specific people. Youmacon is very folksy. Not a lot of different people.
>>9636289
So once upon a time she was reasonable. Knock off plushies.
>>9637203
Is this the guy thats so salty in this thread. The con doesnt seem that profittable so she wanted to charge you paid photogs "rent". It only seems right. This is the only thing I agree with them on.
>>9638077
I would use shuto as a test con or to promote my merch. You sound mad that they wouldnt pay you. Maybe you should step back and ask yourself is my panel worth how ever much the badges were running. If its not just be glad you can work out the kinks in peace.
>>
>>9637991
If you don't overshare your private damage
>muh PCOS
>muh open relationship
>muh kid that I trot out for attention
>muh tumblr performative lesbianism with another dangerhair

and don't micromanage and thought police the participants, on top of having a professional attitude about the whole thing (calling it off and not desperately clinging to the idea if it doesn't take off), you'll be fine.
>>
>>9638304

"I would use shuto as a test con or to promote my merch. You sound mad that they wouldnt pay you. Maybe you should step back and ask yourself is my panel worth how ever much the badges were running. If its not just be glad you can work out the kinks in peace."

speaking of kinks.....did you know that she shiped Sans and Frisk?

Did you also know that, with this in mind, she routinely dressed her kid up as Frisk while she dressed as Sans?

Because I sure did and want to fucking kill myself because of it.
>>
>>9638428
someone call CPS already, this is emotional incest if not worse.

Apart from the child abuse: that skeleton print over a fupa isn't exactly the effect she's going for I assume.
>>
>>9638304
Mmmm I've been doing panels for over eight years so I highly doubt I need to work out the kinks at some shitty con like shuto con. Weird that Ive been invited to be a guest at larger cons and shuto still expects me to want to pay then for access to my content.
>>
>>9638451
>I'm important
>>
Shit gave me cancer. Fucking skeletons. That's what you get. HiV isn't a death sentence, sometimes. Just comes and goes. I just want to be the way I want to be. Security
>>
>>9638428
Maybe they should be putting money towards the lifetime of therapy their kid is gonna inevitably need after growing up in that shitshow family instead of trying to run failing cons.
>>
>>9638451
>I've been doing panels for over eight years
you say this like it is the crowning achievement in your life that's just sad
>>
>>9638543
Let's not turn on one another. It doesn't matter whether we're great panelists. Let's talk about how brave Stefanie Shall is. So brave. So breve. Such brevery.

Oversharing your personal life is bravery. Denying your own shortcomings is bravery. Having your friends come to your defense on facebookings is bravery. Talking about how you are addressing issues while you're deleting actual criticism is bravery. Saying how bad and miserable you are and then begging for asspats from your followers is bravery.

We can be heroes, just for one day
>>
>>9638543
anon was just stating a fact.
>>
at least it's not dashcon right guys ....?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ZgxeX2dCnQ
>>
>>9638748
It's not for lack of trying. The possibility of locking attendees in the room during opening ceremonies, turning them upside down, and shaking them for pocket change remains a real possibility.
>>
Part of me wants to go to the con just to see how bad it is. No part of me wants to give them any money though.
>>
>>9639229
You could probably trade badges with someone if you know a local who's going, just to get in the rooms and panels at least. I would love somebody to do a live rundown like what you saw on tumblr during Dashcon.

I also want to brainstorm another way to pull something like the emails to remind Stephanie why she's being the scum of the earth for this
>>
>>9639413
I think linking her fanclub to this thread often enough so that she's aware that there's a place where people know her tricks and she can't make them go away with her Tone Patrol might suffice for a start.

Are you saying we should share this thread to the Shuto Con Facebook page and watch the Shitshow unfold?
>>
>>9639745
Someone has to be the martyr though it'll be an instant ban for lyfe from Shuto Con and Shuto con affiliated events, such as the much anticipated plushie making convention dedicated to sourcing cheap Chinese labor, as well as a Kickstarter convention filled to the brim with strategies for hitting up friends and family for every penny they can muster to fund your shitty business ventures
>>
>>9639754
Why not play it out as a
>Lol look what I found on 4chan Stef
Or would you guys rather go in guns blazing instead?
Cause I would like to go to the con just to film the entire Shitshow.
>>
>>9639767
You should go to film, AND one of us should link it. I'm an ex-michigander so I'm willing to take the hit to never go to Shita Con
>>
>>9639784
God Speed Anon.
>>
>>9632710
>t. absolute garbage weeb
>>
>>9639784
I'd consider going to film and maybe sit in on some of the more cringy panels. I really do not want to give the Shall's any money though so I'll have to see if I can borrow a badge
>>
>>9639754
>make burner FB account with fake name
Wow, was that SO hard?
>>
>>9635899
unless the security company was extremely EXTREMELY incompetent, you don't just switch things like that two weeks before the convention! You're asking to be in debt at that point. that dug the hole that they're in now.

It is in the middle of Detroit, but I love Youmacon! I staffed for three years in GR and I may be biased, but I recommend going! I've gone for five years and I've had a good time every year.

>>9640436

Hi Blake.
>>
>>9638428
I knew someone would hone in on kink but I couldnt think of a better world. Is she just uncreative or what. The picture is set up so she's creeping on the kid. Crazy bitch. Look at the face. And the kid is like " just doing my job".
She is wearing clog houseshoes. Cheapo costume. I think I will save this picture.
>>9638467
Whats this about?
>>9639229
Me too but the price is steep. It must be somewhat fun cause people keep going back. Probably more of a friendship meetup con. Could be a sex swinger con after dark.
>>9640432
I dont think there is a hole. She just has personal bills.
>>9640436
Just because its in detroit doesnt mean its welcoming. One year I was driving pass and everyone looked alike.
>>
>>9640991
...who?
>>
So, it's been a few days. Did they ever post the details that they promised? Or post how much in donations they got? Or are they just going to pretend it never happened and keep collecting people's money?
>>
>>9643543

Oh, no, of course not. They're not saying shit. Stefanie made Joe post that pathetic mea culpa so she could still look spotless, but there's been exactly zero information about anything other than "we dun goofed, money please to fix our goof"

If I know Stefanie, and I wish I didn't. She's watching this thread and waiting for it to die. Once she thinks people have forgotten about all this bullshit, she'll get back up to her usual tricks.
>>
>>9643891
The donation link says it's available until Oct 11. I doubt they will give any more information or ever publicly say exactly how much money they raised. Meanwhile Stefanie keeps begging for more money for her kickstarter out of the other side of her mouth even though she's selling at AWA and got a massive shipment of her crappy owl plushes
>>
>>9644582

She won't say a fucking peep ever again unless she needs to ask for more dosh.

I feel almost, kinda, sorta but not really bad for them. It seems like a lot of people have had a lot of problems with the Shalls or Shuto for some time, and it just sort of erupted all at once, and I can guarantee you once this thread dies another will take it's place.

what do you guys think is the truth and whats a lie. I assume the 3000 private donation from a private sponser. I also think the raised more than 682.
