Con is coming up in a few weeks and at a new venue

Cos plans? Any word on meetups?

Anyone have advice for those coming out of state about the area of San Jose/Santa Clara?
>>

Bring a car because there's nothing around that hotel. Well, there's an amusement park if you want to go to Great America one of the days. There's also a football stadium that thankfully isn't having a home game at that time
>>
>>9634293

The car thing sucks for those of us flying in. Burlingame at least had the free trolley that took you into town.
>>
Yeah, that convention area sucks ass. There's not even a starbucks or any good coffee place within walking distance. The only food is overpriced hotel garbage.

I suggest looking into the VTA Light Rail. I'm going to be riding it in from near downtown San Jose and the trip takes about 20-25 minutes. There's some other food options along the light rail route without going too far, still no cafes but there's some booze and cheap food options. If you wanna ride further you can go north to Mountain View which has a billion food options or you can ride south to San Jose downtown or Japantown which has uh, some. Japantown is about a 6 block walk off of the Light Rail route.

Here's some fare info: http://www.vta.org/getting-around/fares The best value is the day pass but you need a Clipper Card for that and it's not super easy for out-of-towners to get one conveniently. $2 for 2 hours tho means you can ride it one way and grab your food then catch it back on the same ticket without having to pay again as long as it's in the two hour window.

You can also download some food apps like Grubhub and Doordash for food delivery in that area, there's usually a decent amount of options.

>Yeah, that convention area sucks ass. There's not even a starbucks or any good coffee place within walking distance. The only food is overpriced hotel garbage.

There's a taco bell, togos and chinese place thats within walking distance.

I personally stopped going to Yaoicon on account of how much they exploit their bishi staff. A mid tier bishi can pull in triple digits during the auction and thats not counting funds they raise for bingo and calendar sales. Yet they only get badges for working 20+ hours and are not even compensated for rooms.

I understand staff not getting rooms but if thse people actually pull in cash and have an exact financial amount then I think the con should at least do more for them

There are more food choices around than I think most people realize, I've been to most of them after attending several cons at SCCC over the years.

1) 10 minute walk away and that's being generous on waiting for the street light in front of the Hyatt. Gas station minimart, Taco Bell, Indian food, Chinese, Togos

2) Hyatt has Tosca which is okay depending on their specials that night, the bar, sushi bar, and to-go grab food, Hilton across the street has a restaurant as well

3) Short walk from con. David's is standard mid-range American restaurant food

4) 10 min walk. Bourbon Steak, more expensive and only open Mon-Fri 5-9pm

5) 1 stop away on lightrail. Viet, American, Thai, Mexican, chicken&waffles, Carl's Jr.

Area 5 really is the best, the prices are all low and moderate since they generally rely on office workers on weekdays and neighborhood residents on weekends. Several of the places will close early though if they aren't getting business.

Purple line is the light rail line from SCCC to 5

Also you can hop on and hop off lightrail, they rarely ever check for tickets and the likelihood being caught from 1 stop to 1 stop is super low.
>>

>Also you can hop on and hop off lightrail, they rarely ever check for tickets and the likelihood being caught from 1 stop to 1 stop is super low

If you wanna risk getting a ticket for several hundred dollars instead of paying two dollars for a ticket lolokay
>>

This is helpful. Thanks anon!
>>

In my experience gull meetups are small for this con, I’m up for meeting folks though.

I sadly havent made any new cosplays in time for this con.
>>
>>9635193
What do you do about the bishies that won’t pull in enough to even make back the cost of 2 nights of hotel room? Have the “lower end” bishies stay 4 to a room? Would the bishies that usually pull in high numbers get a room alone? Also it sounds like a perk only returning bishies would have earned.
>>
>>9635193
them getting dates and laid is payment enough
>>
Off topic but I couldn't find a better thread for this:

Why are so many fujoshi lesbian? It makes no sense.
>>
My theory: Most yaoi characters are written by women and behave more like women, and unless you read bara (which is for men anyway) most of them look more androgynous or femme than like men. It becomes more of a self insert fantasy than yuri which is often done by/for straight men. Don't know how true that is but it's my guess.

I used to go to yaoi con years ago but the exploitation mentioned by previous anon is a major reason I don't go anymore. The other reason is because they try to advertise themselves as a "progressive" event lately while profiting off a questionable fetish based around stereotypes. If you're a sleazy fetish con, own it. Don't pretend you're doing positive things for LGBT people while auctioning off men and having spanking orgies.
>>
The bishi thing is odd. There's a ton of guys who are happy to a part of the bishi staff. They know what happens and how they can make money or not. If they are still happy to volunteer, isn't it up to them to decide if they feel exploited?

I'm not going to defend the system as I agree the bishi deserve rooms at least, but if they enjoy doing it I can't really hate the con itself.

There's still other things to enjoy besides the whole bishi thing.
>>
>>9639600
Even the lower tiered and new bishies pull in cash for Bishonen Bingo and Y-con is making money off of them in their calendars.
>>
Is anyone in this thread doing anything at Ycon besides buying a bishie to screw around with?

I’m looking forward to the swap meet, I’m always sorta nosy to what other people bought in the past
>>
>>9640392
This is based entirely on speculation but I think a lot of them like the idea of men for various reasons hence their attraction to fictional men but don't actually like real guys therefore they identify as a lesbian. One example of this may be is they are attracted to femininity which "yaoi men" often fall into the category of but real men for the most part do not.
>>
>>9641044

I don't go for the bishi. I go to buy a ton of things and hang out with friends. The panels are hit or miss.

Plus I'm a fan of Psyche Delico so that has me excited.
>>
>>9640392

Real dudes are fucking gross but bishonen are sweet boys with soft glowing penises. Honestly I think most fujo who identify lesbian are a bit bisexual or maybe even would prefer men but real men are just so goddamn terrible compared to the anime men they are attracted to that they just stick to girls. I'd consider myself a pretty straight fujo but I could finger a girl if she was my type and treated me nice.
>>
>>9641058
But the interesting thing there is that straight guys don't like yaoi and think it's gay.

>>9641077
So they won't date real men because they can't live up to their ideal? Wouldn't that be sort of like guys not dating girls because they don't look like porn stars?
>>
>>9641132
You're arguing with a brick wall if you think you're gonna convince fujos that what they do is unhealthy. Just back off and let them stew in their misandry.
>>
>>9641138
No I'm still just trying to figure it out, I'm not trying to get all moralistic about it. How is it misanderist? Because they objectify men while holding them to impossible standards? i.e looking like they're 16 forever. Prison lesbianism?

Do many fujos date trans gender people? And do they like pre SRS MTF's like chasers, or FTM's despite not having penises?
>>
>>9641154
Not a single sentence of your post makes sense anon, just drop it. These are women who have fetishised fake men and hate actual real men. They are sexists and misandrists. leave them alone to stew in their own hatred and go do something else.
>>
>>9641154
It's the same as weebs who hate women because they're not like the 2D waifus. I imagine most of these "lesbian" fujos have never been with a girl, or maybe they band together with other fujo girls because they understand each other?

Liking yaoi is already a weird way to approach ones own sexuality, I don't see how their adding another layer of weirdness would strike you as particularly curious, anon.
>>
>>9641154
Honestly, "fujoshi" behavior has never really been studied in-depth so anything you hear is going to be skewed by someone's own perspective. If they don't like fujo, they'll treat them like trash, and if they do, they'll praise them.

From what I have seen, fujoshi are divided into a couple of categories that come with their own stereotypes.
> Tumblr Weeb Fujo
The cringe. They ship based entirely on sex (guy/guy and girl/girl). Really enjoy the sex. Most of them don't seem to be in a stable relationship, and tend to be young. They'll grow out of it.

> JP Fujos
The bad. They make some great doujins, but overall they're too busy arguing for who tops and bottoms. Fujoshi is more of a culture there, and similar to otaku, they keep it hidden quite well. Most adult fujos hold stables jobs.

> Comic/Fanfic Fujo
The ones who actually create fan works. They usually start out as cringy as the tumblr weebs but if they keep working, you can see a maturity that develops in their work. The best thing about these fujos is you can tell the good from the bad very easily- the good actually research their ideas, the bad has no concept of healthy relationships and doesn't seem to care.

> Russian Fujos
The best. Ship anything and everything out of love for the media. Doesn't care about endgame. Russian fujo meetups are terrifying, but also ridiculously fun. Tend to be fashionable.

Overall, fujo are people, which means they're going to be as diverse as they come. Some will date transgender people, some will not. Some bring home the bacon, others are still in school. That's just the way it works.
>>
>>9641154
>Because they objectify men while holding them to impossible standards?
Congrats you just described what nearly all men do to women.
>>
>>9641274
I’m just glad barely any guys come to Ycon so we can just enjoy ourselves.
>>
>>9640392
Hey, fujo lesbian here (and yes, I have been with women in real life) to hopefully shed a little light on this from my individual perspective.

As a child, female characters were still being written as one-note love interests or girly-girls whose interests were centered on themselves and fashion/boys/whatever and you had to seriously hunt for girls who did not slot into these tropes. This made for a pretty dull character compared to the plethora of male characters who were focused on saving the world and kicking ass and having complex feelings about their male rivals and friends. Couple that with an absolute nightmare world of sex education - girls never learning about how to pleasure themselves, female sexuality being held up as a dirty thing to only think about after marriage, girls being told they never get horny etc - and you have a formula for guy characters = interesting, complicated, sexual and girl characters = shallow, boring, nonsexual/pure.

Real life girls are of course sexual and want outlets for it, but I found myself alienated by most female characters and completely uninterested in imagining their romantic escapades. Plus male sexuality was so broadly discussed and you could easily find magazine articles about how good sex felt for men and how to do things to please a man (while similar feelings for women were completely ignored) that relating to male sexuality and pleasure was simply easier and allowed the interesting and complex characters to become sexual outlets as well.

There are more things I could go into (like how yaoi allows girls who lack good body image to have porn where they aren't assumed to "project") but this post is tl;dr already so hopefully that's enough for you to get an idea.
>>
>>9641295

A few guys show up hoping to get laid. Some are ok, some are extremely socially awkward who assume it was an easy way to find easy women. You can usually pick them out.
>>
They look to be posting the schedule. I hope they plan to add more as it looks a bit sparse even for ycon standards.

Anyone know if the have rules for the cosplay contest?
>>
>>9641044
i'm just going to get drunk the whole weekend desu senpai
>>
>>9641259
>Russian Fujos

I had no idea that was a thing considering all the anti gay stuff you hear about. That actually does sound awesome just for how crazy it is.

The other stuff you said made a lot of sense to me. I know a girl who seems to be changing from an entry level tumblr fanficer into a proper comic writer, but then again she did actually study writing at university.

>>9641274
While that's true, the interesting part is that fujos like lots of guys judge partners by appearance, when men are lead to believe that female standards generally revolve around social and economic dominance.

>>9641306
I think I see where you're coming from, but the bit I find difficult to understand is how you're reading stories that center around a gender that you aren't attracted to having sex with one another.

For most straight guys it takes a long time for them to stop finding male homosexuality repugnant. And it seems a thousand times worse with lesbians, with all the gold-star, anti-bi hate and occasional misanphobia. Granted that behaviour doesn't represent all lesbians, or even some lesbians most of the time, but the ratios I've met just seem to high to be by chance.
Thanks for all the replies guys, sorry for derailing things and making the gender haters show up.
>>
>>9641538
Can’t we just ban all guys from attending that aren’t staff/bishies?
>>
>>9641044
I usually go on Friday, look at the swapmeet and the artist alley, and watch and play a little bit of bingo. Is the auction worth going to?
>>
>>9642018
>Is the auction worth going to?

It honestly varies from person to person, I always have a blast. I’ve known some people that call it cringe or only go to laugh at it with their friends. I’ve also known people that get super hyped and into it and try to bid.

So really your mileage may vary dependin on your own view of it and how altered a state you put your mind in as well.
>>
>>9642018
>Is the auction worth going to?

If you dont go you better have something else to do as usually ycon shuts down all their other programming so nothing competes with their money events
>>
>>9640546
>used to go to yaoi con years ago but the exploitation mentioned by previous anon is a major reason I don't go anymore.

The bishi's know what they're getting themselves into and like doing it for the attention and having a chance to perform.

If they're cool with it, can we really be angry?
>>
>>9642004

Ehhh
There's legit fudanshi
Plus you'll have a ton of transtrenders getting pissed

Slippery slope
>>
>>9642004

Anon is prob imagining the super stereotypical "straight coded" kind of yaoi. Although I'm curious, is that kind popular with men in the west? I know in Japan generally seme/uke yaoi artists and fans are almost all women and bara is the exact opposite but idk about weebs. I also wonder about this kind of inbetween too where they're both pretty masculine but not super roided out.
>>
>>9642045
Ayrt, and I'm not angry so much as I don't really want to give the con my money if they do stuff I don't agree with. I'm not saying other people shouldn't go, just that I'm personally not super wild about the direction things went after DMP bought them out, which is one reason I'm choosing not to go.

I hope everyone who does go has fun!
>>
>>9641793
tl;dr fictional men are relatable/attractive on an intellectual/sexual level because they're characters designed to be related to. Also dicks are great as long as they're nowhere near me and thanks to male sexuality being readily accessible everyone everywhere knows how great sex with a dick feels. It's just easy to relate to yaoi in a fictional escapist sense. Maybe that will help you understand? It's honestly a subject I've thought about a lot because while it seems like a big old shrug to me, clearly people do have difficulty reconciling the idea of lesbians liking yaoi. Just think of it like those people who like guro art but cover their eyes at gore in horror movies or something.

I think as people grow up with cool and interesting female characters they'll start to focus more on them - it's already happening with SU and Undertale I guess - and we may actually see the market for yaoi dwindle a bit.
>>
So what are people cosplaying this year?
>>
I'm cosplaying from two not to well known series and also from a pretty popular one. It's been a while since I've cosplayed but I'm really excited to premiere these cosplays.
>>
I expect a lot of YOI and Voltron, but I hope to see more obscure or older cosplay. It's the one con my partner and I get to gay it up.

I know there are cosplay photoshoots being scheduled, but haven't seen anything I'm cosplaying from.

I'm hoping to have my new ita bag finished by con, but we will see.
>>
>>9641077
>3dpd is absolute shit.
No really?
>>
>>9642125

No, seme/uke stuff is not that popular with men, in my opinion. Even though I noted they are some of my best customers, there are still very few of them. I think they are showing up more lately because a lot of western artists do pop culture stuff (movies and tv shows) in addition to anime, which results in generally more masculine men in the AA since they are based on hot actors, so I think that's more the aesthetic that gay men enjoy. Plus, at least for awhile, things were becoming more and more liberal so maybe men who secretly preferred soft boys and romance felt more comfortable coming out about it. I also noticed that many western women are fed up with the stereotypical seme/uke shit and enjoy masculine men and even bara.
>>
>>9642736

3d men's personalities are disgusting. I have no problem with how dudes look physically, I'm even kinda into that big boy neckbeard look as long as he keeps his ass clean, but most dudes just honestly have trash personalities and treat women like accessories for their dick. If most dudes just showered once a day and treated women like people then women wouldn't prefer anime boys so much.
>>
>>9642766
I agree with you except for the neckbeard part, if he doesn't put effort into his outward appearance then there are no doubt other aspects of himself that he puts no effort into as well.

The irony is these are the same guys that complain about not ever having a date but say 2D is superior...
>>
>>9642301
Oh right, so for you yaoi men are in no way equivalent to real men.

Do then if you met a gay guy into yuri it would be similar right? They don't like real women, but anime girls are completely different?
>>
>>9642766
You know what, as much as I hate parading in here and wasting your time could you please answer some questions for me?
1. Doesn't showering once a day bad for your skin? Isn't it best done every second day?
2. How often do you wash your hair?
3. Do you know of any place that super hates men? Tumble's a bit pathetic, and the S. C. U. M Manifesto's a bit of a joke. I'm looking for like GAS ALL MEN GENDER WAR NOW MILLIONS OF DEAD BABY PENISES type of man hating, that would be awesome.
>>
Can we get back on topic?
>>
>>9642983

Look, fuck that. It's fucking trendy or something to not wash yourself everyday because it's "bad for your skin/hair" but no. I'd rather have dry skin and hair that's clean, so yes, I shower every day, sometimes twice if I've had a long nasty day. And no I don't go to sites like that, I read fanfic about sweet men fucking and go to /y/ for pics of men fucking and that's all I do with my internet time. I don't really care enough about real men to commit time to trash talking them anywhere except inappropriate threads on 4chan.

>>9643040

This thread wasn't exactly popping off before but yeah okay, I'll shut up now. Polite sage.
>>
>>9643040
Awe yis.
Am going for friend, and drinking. Will be a Damien from Dream Daddy for a day likely. And crossdressing as just some party type chick another. Don't actually have costumes with me since I've moved around recent.

Am willing to meet anyone who wants. Last year I met Spike, with his binder of Dickbutt, and had a drink. As well as a cool Gilder.
>>
>>9642983
Nyart but
1. Shower every day, even if you’re just washing specific parts. It’s genuinely nasty to go without washing the sweaty/stinky body parts. Don’t make people gag as you walk by. I wash my underarms, chest, butt, nether region, and feet every day, and my whole body every second day (with lotion after every whole-body shower). Back before I sprained my ankle, I exercised every day so of course I showered my full sweaty body every day.
2. Oily hair can be washed 2-3 times a week. Different hair types have different timespans for washing. My black and half-black/half-white friends wash their hair once a week.

Yeah, most of the guys at Yaoi-con are straight. We have four or five Asian guys coming with us, because we don't want to go hunting at the con. It's hard to find snacks at cons in NorCal, in general.

Documentary on cons in general. Ycon was probably on their list because it's unique and at this point the only one of it's kind in the u.s. since the other died off.

They said if you don't want to be in anything, stay out of the way of cameras. Though vice is usually good about anonymity.

>>
>>9649450

Vice probably offered lots of money? I can't imagine any other reason.

This sucks. Already seeing people saying they're definitely not attending now. This con was already a toss up considering it moved from it's old location, I'm even more nervous it's going to be bad now. Now I might not only end up going to a bad con, I might be immortalized on film while attending a bad con.
>>
I think you are all freaking out over nothing

They already said they are going to take precautions and are speaking with Vice about anonymity. Chances are they will blur out faces except those who are ok with being on film for interviews.
>>
>>9649484
Are you even attending anon? It’s one thing to say that as a non-attendee and another thing to be one of us going.
>>
>>9649484

If you had your face show up on a doc about the weirdest thing you are into, would you be happy about it? It's an 18+ LGBT space, attendees always assumed there was some priority given to protecting them from outside exposure. The con is basically welcoming outsiders to come in and mock us.
>>
>>9649484
I kind of agree that people are getting in over their head on how upset they are about this. I'm not sure if they've ever watched a Vice doc before but usually, they'll follow one person around who consented to be filmed and interviewed and everything else film at on-site locations is just background stuff or fillers. They'll film for 3 days but probably end up using less than a minute of footage.
>>
>>9649496
nyart but the vice docs I’ve seen were all far longer unless this is just one segment of an entire doc
>>
>>9649503

>>

>>
>>9649513
....i wouldnt compare a nothing old af video to a large media publisher that gets many views now
>>
>>9649496

It doesn't matter what the end result is. Attendees of this con expected to be able to come in and make asses of themselves in an enclosed space, and suddenly find out that there's going to be a camera and a bunch of regular people there filming them. Of course that's going to make people uncomfortable regardless of the end result and regardless of whether it's technically legal or not.

The smart thing would be to designate an area in which they could film, let attendees choose whether they enter that area or not. There will be plenty of people who are excited about participating in this, and those that aren't can completely and easily avoid it.
>>
>>9649518
>a nothing old af video

This is high art. This video should be in a museum so new generation weebs can see it and understand how cons used to be back in the day.
>>
>>9649486

Yes I am attending. I'm just not going to flip out about something we have little info on. Vice is one of the few outlets I think would handle it professionally without mocking us.

It's more likely that most of the film will end up on the cutting room floor.

Just be aware of cameras and go around them. I'm pretty sure with how small the con is in general, you'll be able to easily spot a professional film crew.

Stop flipping out and just enjoy your weekend.
>>
>>9649528
>Yes I am attending.

Nice attempt at damage control, DMI. Artists and attendees are already canceling hotel rooms and will be requesting refunds on table costs and badges. Hope whatever Vice is paying you is worth damaging your con’s reputation.
>>
>>9649536
Wow, people are acting this autistic and letting something like this ruin their weekend?
>>
>>9649545
You might not be affected by this but other people are. How hard is that to understand? Some people are closeted and being filmed might out them which can have consequences for not only their personal relationships but also their professional ones. In some states it's legal for employers to fire employees if they're LGBTQ, etc etc.

And even if someone isn't gay, I can understand not wanting to be publicly associated with gay japanese cartoon porn on something that will likely be shared all over the internet.
>>
>>9649551
Are you like a 30+ year old office employee or work for the government?

Anyways, the con said they were going to talk with Vice about it and chances are you probably won't even notice they're there.
>>
>>9649556
The problem isn't that they'll be noticeable. The problem is being filmed - even if it ends up in a background shot somewhere.

Also have you ever even been to Y-Con? It's fucking tiny and they confirmed that Vice will be filming in both the Vendor Hall and the Artist Alley, as well as some of the bigger panels/events. At a bigger con like Fanime or AX, you're less likely to be spotted in a general pan/crowd shot but at Y-Con?? It'll be much easier to pick out faces in sparse crowds.

And uh - you're acting as if only office/government employees would be at risk for this when you can't account for the personal biases/discrimination of peoples' employers. Think about it this way though, would you want it advertised to your friends, family, and boss that you were at s porn con? You're free to still attend but don't be an ass about the people who are cancelling.
>>
>>9649559
I'm bummed that people are pulling out and not going to the con anymore. I'm really bummed that people are yelling to boycott the con. I haven't been in a couple of years and I'm really looking forward to it but this harsh vibe people are putting out is a real downer.
Quit the con by all means but don't go around demanding that everyone should boycott because of this. (not just you specifically I mean in general all of the others who feel that way)
>>
>>9649570
The way they announced it is shitty and there's a good chance many people will miss the announcement. Most of the people I have seen yelling about it are doing so to get the word out. I get that it's a bummer for you but it will be more so for people who show up Friday with no idea this was even happening.
>>
>>9640546
femboy yaoi is also written by and for men who has sissy fetishes
>>
>>9649536

Uh no. I'm going for fun and I'm from out of state. I'm also a professional working person. That said, I'm not about to let something like this stop me from having a good weekend.
>>
Filming in the AA seems like it could go badly for anyone who doesn't do 100% original character content.

Is the con itself welcoming this with open arms?
>>
>>9649720
If something isn’t an OC wouldn’t Vice need to license media rights from Funimation to show it or something? Especially since Vice clearly is going to monetize and collect ad revenue on their film?
>>
It's really sad to see how many people are dropping, not that I blame them at all. I won't sign a waiver, but I'm out to my family and work, so I have a lot less to lose than some people. With how much public backlash there's been, I wonder if VICE will be able to find anyone at all to interview.
>>
>>9649964
There's always going to be some sad sacks that are desperate for any attention at all.
>>9649588
Yeah, if they had been more upfront about this earlier, I doubt it would be as bad.
>>
>>9649964

It sounds like the bishies working for the con heard about it earlier than we did and were under the impression that it was going to focus on them, and they were obviously up for it. Personally I feel that if they aren't going to cancel, I'd rather have a few people who are up for it who distract the cameras from everyone else who isn't, so I'm not going to talk shit about anyone who goes for it. In the end we all lose anyway when they cut it to make us look like wacky losers.
>>
They just cancelled under the guise of "we don't think we'll be able to get meaningful stories"

>>
>>9650161

Well when you have a bunch of Tumblrinas flipping out before they have info, you gotta make a PR call

I wouldn't want to interview or deal with them either
>>
>>9650200
I don’t see why they would think providing no info at all would be to their advantage.
>>
>>9635193
Bishies get worked to the bone, but it's a really rewarding experience for us even without much compensation.
Went in 2014, and Bishies only actually get compensated for the following year's con. So even if you work 20+ hours, you still have to pay.
What sucks is that if you miss a year, you have to pay the next time you come.
Bonus is that it filters out tons of fuckbois who just want to get laid and given a free con.

>>9640731
Bishies don't HAVE to do every bishie-related event. You can do as much or as little as you desire. I know some who just do bingo, and literally nothing else.
But a number of the older bishies are very dedicated to this con.

>>9642402
>>9643049
I'll be Joseph Saturday probably with a Mary and Robert in tow.
>>
>>9650200

They announced it four days before the con, the attendees are hardly to blame for flipping out when there was pretty much no time to sit and wait for updates. A lot of hotel and flight cancellations require at least a few days advanced notice for full refunds.

Also if you think people are being unreasonable for pitching a fit about potentially getting outed on television either as a queer person or interested in queer porn then you must live a nice privileged life. Good for you.
>>
Anyone have anything you’re looking forward to at con?

I’m aiming to arrive Friday morning and get my hotel room squared away then
>>
>>9650200
"Tumblerinas flipping out"

a lot of people aren't publicly out, anon
it's a huge lgbt space
yeah vice cancelled but i don't think people being afraid of their lives potentially being ruined bc family members or their workplaces or w/e found out they were gay/viewed as a deviant is just mindless "flipping out"
>>
>>9650212
please notice me senpai <3
>>
On a different topic - if any of you gets it, could I get some pics of the ads of the printed guide? The company bought some space but none of us are attending this year, and we'd like to see how the guides they're giving attendees look.
>>
>>9651046
I’ll get you the pics tomorrow if no one uploads em today/tomorrow morning
>>
Did anybody look at the programming online? The times for everything feel super off
>>
>>9651617
Yeah, the one online is coded badly and isn't adjusted against the user's time correctly.

I ended up downloading the app on my phone and all the times are correct in that. Don't really like the app though.
>>
So the head of the AA quit today?

The schedule is full of typos - even guests are spelled wrong

This bodes ill
>>
>>9651631
I'll be drinkin' and checkin' out bishies.

That's good enough for me!
>>
Is there a meetup today? New con new place, should it be the usual 9pm at the Lobby?
>>
>>9651877
the "Lobby" of this hotel is pretty big, maybe we should say between the escalators and the bar?
>>
>>9651877
9pm is during bingo, but I can't really think of a better time so we might as well do it then, last time I ended up meeting with people during mid-day since that worked for us
>>
>>9651884
Ah yeah, thats exactly where I was thinking of actually

>>9651931
Bishonen Bingo is from 8Pm to 11, should move the meet up to 7?
>>
Looks like AA isn't opening up until 1PM, a lot of artists still checking in?
>>
>>9652020
7pm works fine for me

>>9652023
I think so, I saw people still bringing things from their cars like 15 mins ago
>>
>>9652023

Still not open as of 1:15pm
>>
>>9652034
You dressed up today anon or nah?
I'm Takemi with an Akechi (P5) walking around!

Man the Cons pretty small and empty, will there be more people tomorrow, or is it just to early today still?

I'm sitting with a Yurio getting drinks.

Nope. We're a game company
>>
>>9652260
You can sit with us. We are facing the bar.
>>
what parties are tonight I’m here alone lol
>>
Where the hell is the nearest liquor store? I'm not from anywhere near here.
>>
There's so many fat SJWs bossing me around at this con, it's like just being male, gay, and not fat is grounds for them to harass me. Fuck buying a badge I'm ghosting next year
>>
>>9652612
Bossing you around?
>>
>>9652616
They're probably microaggresing him because he's a cis male
>>
Meetup in the lobby again tonight?
>>
>>9652796
Im down, same spot as yesterday?
Seems like everybody is at the auction
right now, what's everybody wearing today? Just changed into Miku wig and Maid outfit without makeup Im too lazy to put any on this late wew
>>
Walked in on sweedish cringe song ho boy this auction
>>
At the auction currently, seems like alot less bishies than last year
>>
At the Dance, it's way dead here.
Is the attendee percentage way down because of the move?
>>
>>9653026
At twister in lobby
>>
This venue is... not great. The exhibition space itself is pretty decent, but the common areas just don’t feel like there are any good places to just hang out and socialize.
>>
>>9653032

The bar until it closed was good
Same with out by the pool
>>
Yaoicon is fucking dead
>>
>>9653102
as long as the auction makes money for the parent company, they can just continue to put less and less of it back into the actual con.

so even if it's dead, they're gonna put a hawaiian shirt and sunglasses and keep dragging it around like weekend at bernie's until it actually loses them money, at which point they'll probably try and pull a crowdfunding hail mary, which could buy them another year, or another chance at revamping it into a viable con again if they have interest in doing that and can get people involved who are both motivated and know what they're doing.

but you're right, and it's probably been functionally dead for a couple years, realistically.
>>
>>9653244
How was it last year in terms of main event turnout
>>
For all the organizational failings of Yaoicon, I think it really is still driven by the community in having a good time.

I enjoyed myself all weekend and met up with multiple people from /cgl/ so all in all worth it for me. It just would have been even better if the con were better organized and had at least tweaked some things.
>>
>>9653032
>hotel staff getting pissed at everyone and dumping alcohol that wasn't purchased from the bar, aka the one place to hang out and socialize
>getting in trouble for bringing outside food and eating it in the common areas

yeah it was shit
>>
>>9653697

Just put the booze in a damn water bottle or something. It's not rocket science
>>
>>9653760
what the fuck do you think we were doing, anon, just taking swigs out of 40s?
>>
>>9653761
>drinking 40s instead of MD 20/20

do yall not know how to party at yaoicon?
>>
is slamming doors a new meme or something? my party got busted because my stupid fuck younger neighbors kept slamming the door and security got called on ME instead of them

seriously fuck this con im out
>>
>>9652923
Some of the bishies were upset he was actually let into the auction, given his entire talent was "sing happy birthday in a different language, and translate lines for people."
No costume, no prep work, no nothing.

Usually he's better and sells for a lot, so they let him in and axed other potential bishies, but it was the weakest act and he hella undersold what they expected.

Minor behind the scenes drama, but nothing too bad that I heard, aside from that.

>>9652936
There were around 25 bishies or so. 17 auditioned for the auction, 12 made it in the time allotted to the event.
>>
>>9653369
Wasn't there last year but two years ago was pretty good.
>>
If they allowed crossplayers, I think they would make bank depending in who made the cut.

I don't mind dicks, but hot women dressed as hot boys are just as great.

They allowed it with Reika and the two people who cosplayed the mascots one year.
>>
>>9654195
Just wondering, have crossplayers tried to apply before?

I also would be interested if we had at least 1 or 2 as an option.
>>
>>9654482
I've been told two separate stories:

a) there used to be crossplayers a long time ago but nobody bid on them because they sucked and it was uncomfortable for everybody involved, and
b) they won't use crossplayers due to concern about sexual assault.

I'm not sure which is more true or if either of them are true at all.
>>
>>9654487

They are morons and are missing a good business opportunity

I know bishie can request only certain genders bid. Or they used to.
>>
>>9654195
From what I've seen, they allow transgender males, but that's it.
They'd probably run into publicity and legal issues if they tried to sell women off for "dates" like Yuricon did before it was shut down in its first year.

Yaoicon as is already has to skirt around a lot of prostitution laws, and have to give bishies the annual "Don't fuck your buyer. If you want to, please wait until the date is officially over."
>>
>>9654658

If the ladies are willing and understand the rules...why not allow it? Same rules could apply as they do bishie

Especially if they are hot, willing to do it, and have more talent than some if the ones that went up for auction...it seems like an easy money maker and everyone wins. Not all the bishie strip so that is even covered
>>
>>9654743
Because the general public would see the con selling women for "dates," and try to get it shut down.
It's what happened to Yuricon. Nothing went "wrong" with the convention, but they still shut it down, because people viewed it as a shady practice.

I think a lot of the staff and bishies would actually be down for something like that, but I realistically don't think it'd be smooth sailing.
>>
Overall verdict of this year's Ycon?
>>
>>9655788
fucking sucks, run by fat sjw harlots, poorly run, shitty location
>>
>>9654593
Bishies can still request to only be sold to a preferred gender, but it's kinda uncommon and a bit frowned upon.
Half the time the people using that rule are just first year bishies thinking they'll get laid on their date, so only sell themselves to women.

>>9655788
Con itself outside of the main bishie events is still dead as always, but bingo and especially the auction this year were fantastic.
Would be nice if they at least tried to put effort into the non-bishie side of the con, but everyone knows that's not what they're there for.
>>
>>9654658
>>9654755
Wtf this whole time, I was wondering why there isn't a Yuricon. I'm a girl and I personally prefer yuri manga so kind of sad there's only yaoicon. That sucks to hear why Yuricon was shut down. Not sure why there's even an auction for ugly looking people anyway, could do away with it.
>>
>>9655788
Overall I like seeing everyone and I’ll probably be here next year, but the meat market has taken over and actual programming/artists/fanstuff has gotten put way in the back of the bus. It’s a naked Digital Manga moneygrab, but the con block rate is good and like >>9653675 said, the community makes it fun despite the (many, conspicuous) failings.
>>
>>9655788
First time attendee, was only able to go on Friday, but I had a great time and will definitely get time off for the whole weekend next year. The atmosphere was really chill, and had probably the friendliest people I've encountered at a convention in years.
I have no previous Yaoicons to compare it to, but a lot of artists I like were in the AA, the main event I attended was... somehow less cringey than I was expecting. Dealer's room was laughably tiny, but that's my only real complaint.
>>
I agree they could have a decent con if they had someone in charge of programming that knew what they were doing.

There's a lot of potential. And with it so far from San Fran, there isn't much to do around outside the con. Use this a chance to have strong internal programming.
>>
>>9656342
After closing ceremonies some of us bishies were talking about this.
That people can get away with 18+ content at this con, like at the cosplay contest that they can't do anywhere else. But even then, when it's back-to-back with even bigger events like bingo or the auction, they'd rather just line up for those instead.

We kinda discussed spacing them out some, and running the cosplay contest earlier in the day by 1-2 hours, as well as advertising it more.
A lot of people don't even realize what panels and events are offered at the con aside from bingo and the auction.
Half the bishies didn't even know we had a cosplay contest.
>>
>>9656426

As someone who organizes cons, their lack of organization irritates the hell out of me. They are small enough to make it an easy but interesting con. I'm wondering if it's a lack of strong staff or what.
>>
>>9656434
I think they put all their competent staff on bishie events, and leave everything else as an afterthought to the less experienced staff.
>>
>>9656436
Todd the volunteer wrangler was really great at his job, but I didn’t see him around this year; did anyone?
>>
>>9656426
>A lot of people don't even realize what panels and events are offered at the con aside from bingo and the auction.

A failing of the con also is the really weak app they used for their schedule and even the odd organization of the physical pocket guide.
>>
>>9656426
Which bishies are gulls so I know who to bid on next year?

Are any of them chill?
>>
>>9656712
Only one I'm aware of is Phelps, but he didn't auction this year.
Pretty much every bishie I've met so far seemed surprisingly chill though.
>>
>>9656436
Ycon never had programming that conflicted with their money events. If you ran a panel you really got shafted to some less than ideal times
>>
I just saw this thread and was wondering if it’s weird meeting people at gull meetups at cons like this that are 18+ and lewd focused?
>>
>>9658535
Most people at gull meets are 18+ to begin with.
Idk how Cali meetups differ from PNW ones, but the people I met at con weren't really any different, just because the con itself had more lewd content.
