Right? I honestly don't understand some people. We've just had a convention -
there are plenty of actual cosplay things to talk about - and someone takes the time to collage a random cosplayer's perfectly fine teeth? I don't get it.
>>
>>9640323
are you blind
>>
>>9640323

>>
>>9640327
Weird thing to focus on, but agreed that we should focus on something relevant.

Did anyone see any cosplays they loved from Brisbane Oz Comic Con? I didn't get a chance to take pics because I was in a bulky costume on Sunday, but I saw the most amazing warlock/enchanter. He had bones hanging from his antlers, a great-looking mask, and good leather details. Just nice work all around.

Looks like it's my time to shine again. Positivity anon is back! I just delved into some albums that popped up on my feed and picked my favourites.

>>
>>9640345
First up is the winner of the Brisbane OZCC cosplay heats. The amount of care put into every detail is enormous. I love the weird prism thing sitting on top of the staff.
>>
>>9640353
There were a lot of Wonder Womans (Wonder Women?) over the weekend, and I loved all of them, but this cosplayer had a very lovely face and cosplay!
>>
>>9640357
I really liked Twerking Gherkin's Riverdale group. Simple costumes, but you can tell they're having fun.
>>
>>9640359
I have no idea what this is, but it's impressive as fuck. That headdress!
>>
>>9640361
This Stormtrooper was very cool! I like the weathering on their armour.

>>
>>9640363
This Austin Powers duo brought a smile to my face. Their expressions are on point and their costumes are just the right sparkle of silver.
>>
>>9640364
Another of the cosplay competition entrants. This is actually stunning. I don't know what it is exactly (Sakizou??) but hot damn it is GORGEOUS.
>>
>>9640366
I like this Beast Boy cosplayer. I think he captured his appearance very well.

>>9640361

>>
>>9640855
Nope! For thechampionships of cosplay!
>>
>>9640753
Yeah it is! Between Julietta Knight and Garnet :)
>>
>>9640876
If I was you I would chose Julietta as she has more techniques and the judges love that. If you're not confident in armor then Garnet. But goodluck Anon !
>>
>>9640908
Agreed. You've got the armour, the potential for embellishment, plus that wig is gnarly. Good luck!

Though it's weird how the Sakizous haven't been that well represented/placed that well this year. I wonder if the hype is dying down.
>>
Anyone know a better photographer that i won't need to spend $500 on, and that i won't get a photo back looking like i've rolled in from a bakery? pic for example.

Thanks.
>>
>>9640942
where are you located?
>>
>>9640875
Ohhhh ok. Good coz cosplay comps at pax should be left for game related cosplays. Just saying
>>
My F4 institute helmet mold failed cos I rushed the process... so dunno what I'm gonna do now.
>>
>>9640975
Agreed! Don't think there are any cosplay comps at pax though :)
>>
>>9640942
This cost her $500? Jesus not worth the money girl, and i swear she was smaller unless she has gone up 2-3 sizes in clothing.
>>
>>9640942
Well, your photographers technique is pretty good. The pose and positioning just looks a bit awkward. Did you discuss your vision clearly with him/her beforehand? Both model and photographer contribute to the finished product. If you visit the MCC Facebook page there's a list of photographers there and their pages/contact info. Browse through the them, find one that suits your taste, then contact them. Pretty sure all of them would be willing to help you achieve the images you want.
>>
>>9641022
The photographers technique is dreadful. Are you blind? It looks like a raw image with terrible mise-en-scene and no editing. The models tattoos blend in with the dark lighting making her look trashy and cheap. It looks worth $40 maximum amateur.
>>
>>9641048
The Model makes herself look trashy and cheap thats not the photographers fault. But i agree, if i got that sort of shot out of $500 i would be highly disappointed.
>>
>>9640942
>>9641048
I dont think its that anon.
You dont suit the whole kitten play look. You look like a 40 year old cigarette smoking mom trying to dress younger than your fitted to. Your tattoos are distracting from the innocent look your going for. The results will look awkward, trashy and off-putting no matter the scenery or photographer.
>>
>>9640942
If i was spending $500 on a shot like this i'd really hope my photographer would let me know how horrible my body looks in that lingerie and get me out of it into something that actually fits me.
>>
>>9641052
>>9641053
I see it now. I think it's a combination of both.
>>
>>9640942
Llana gave up on cosplay and is now trying to get into soft core porn? Really shows where her life is going at the age of 27 lol.
>>
>>9641011
Hmmmm I thought there were. Oh well, probably better that it never have cosplay comps anyway :)
>>
>>9640942
I feel sorry for the photographer because it's evident that it isn't their fault.
Hard to shoot images when you have a shitty model.
Also, those very obviously backyard job tattoos are horrid and she needs to stop stuffing her bra. It's stupid when all you have to put in there is loose skin. Stop.

Her 'sexy' is worse than her 'cosplay'.

And am I the only one who is wondering wtf happened to her kid? No one has seen anything about her since Supanova and there's some pretty serious rumours she was abusing her. Anyone know if the kid is somewhere safe?
>>
>>9640942
And wasn't she starting a Patreon?
What happened to that?

>>

Llana's everything is bad, she just needs to stop and start getting her life together. But i assume thats too far gone now since she is 27, bums around at home and had her child taken from her.

Her child is in a safe environment now from what i have heard, she is with the father.

>>9641081

For that "modeling" photo, its trash and she is trash. I'm glad she wasted $500. It was probably for her Patreon that will never get anywhere because lets be honest, who wants to see that thing with less clothes on and waste good money on something most people have seen before.

I have a confession to make and I can't tell any of my friends for fear of sounding like an utter bastard, but here goes.

I'm so effing sick and tired of being friends with Variable on FB. Literally every single post she puts up on her personal FB is drama of one kind or another, or a #triggered post, or a complaint, or a freaking whinge, or a sob story about how boohoo #unfair her life is. Her constant negativity is seriously starting to bring me down, to the point where I've just unwatched her feed now because I'm tired of her constant whining. I thought that, cosplay personality aside, at least she was good to hang out with a few times, but she never. Stops. Complaining.

That's my rant, I feel good to get it off my chest now.
>>
>>9644879
Im sick of being friends with beethy on facebook. He keeps commenting on my photos and i want to gag everytime i see his face but i cant unfriend him and have to pretend to like him because of position im in.
>>
>>9644620
katyuska has gone sellout with nudes in her patreon. Its sad because she had potential in her prime. Is there any decent popular cosplayer who has not sold out gone nude, implied or boudoir in cosplay?
>>
>>9644888
Even major Sam has done a lingerie shoot, so no
>>
>>9644879
Whenever I feel bad about my life I just look at her wall.
>>
>>9644879
I think it's easy to complain about everything when you have a mountain of people willing to drop you some attention or sympathy every time you make a status update. She's probably addicted to it after doing it for so long. Heck, I'd be addicted to it if dozens of people commented and messaged me with well wishes every time I farted sadly.

On the other hand, it's easy to attract so much negativity towards yourself when you willingly surround yourself with bad thoughts, bad people and bad situations. I guess it's easier for her to complain and get online asspats than actually do anything to improve her state of being.
>>
>>9644902
My ex is exactly like this. Though she has Autism. If even the slightest thing was wrong, she needed attention from not just me but every person she could get it from
>>

>>
Same old, same old. Seems this thread always comes back to shitposting about the same people. Pretty woeful as Australia has so much talent to showcase.
>>
>>9644966
Then showcase it, or encourage them to. We're not their publicists, and I mean that term considering how many cosplayers are just attempting to be business's now. If we could have discussion about events, meet ups or groups; great. But you can't police the place unless you're going to be a positive example. People are allowed their opinions, negative or positive.
>>
Lol i think most of the really good cosplayers have outgrown the comm and just do their own thing with friends.
>>
>>9645000
FoyerCon is a thing. Especially at GoldNova.
>>
>>9644921
Pretty good as a patron.
The location is way more accessible than the motley assortment of trains you have to catch to Sydnova and the view from both the balcony and the interior is nice.
The facility itself is clean and spacious but the layout of the floor (the stalls, etc.) made things a bit more cramped and chaotic than normal.
>>
Forgive me if this seems like flogging a dead horse but the topic of photographers has been coming up frequently in the past few threads I've been lurking.

We identify particular photographers as being good or otherwise but which determines which in your opinion? Where/how do you meet ones you're likely to work with and is pro bono work considered weird?

>Tl;dr Green and Red flags for photographers
>>
>>9645042
Usually meet togs at cons, exchange cards, follow each other on social media. The more you see of their work over time the more you'll be able to tell if they have a style you like. Sometimes personalities have to be sussed out, so if you're unsure, bring a friend to cosplay or assist. There may be casual cosplay meets sometimes too, where togs and cosplayers can freely ask each other for shoots in a more public/safe environment.

In my experience, good togs listen to suggestions, ask for feedback as they shoot, and give you feedback on your posing. If they don't offer to show their camera for previews, you should ask to see in case you need to take charge of the shoot. Their response may give you an idea of how easy they are to work with. Retouching can depend on the tog, and I know some of them might post pics before the cosplayer has had a chance to check them over and/or do their own editing. Best to talk this over before the shoot.

I... Haven't actually had to pay for shoots lol. I'm generally on friendly enough terms to just get a free pass. It does depend on the tog though. I do know some will charge money, but I'm not sure how much.

I haven't had many issues with togs personally, but there were apparently spots of drama within the Melbourne bunch. TDP in particular hasn't been popular with a lot of people due to his attitude problems, which is why he hasn't been shooting with certain cosplayers recently.
>>
>>9645096
Thank you. In the toxicity that usually characterises our humble little thread, this was an unexpectedly informative breath of fresh air.

If you'll indulge my curiosity for a moment, the suggestion for tog behaviour appears cosplayer-centric (though of course not to the detriment of your advice); what if the photographer themselves has a vision for the shoot (Location, lighting, pose, etc.)? Is this out of the ordinary? Perhaps even taboo?

You must have quite an affable personality to maintain such a lovely working relationship. I feel that the exchange of money may inadvertently cheapen the endeavour but circumstance and demeanour vary wildly and it's unfair of me to suggest that lucre demeans the creative aspect of a photoshoot. Thoughts?

TDP and casual cosplay events? My apologies for my ignorance by the way.

I'm glad you found my wall of text helpful! I'm just speaking from firsthand experience as both cosplayer and tog.

I've found that while cosplay photography is a very collaborative process, it tends to be easier for shoot requests to come from the cosplayers bc:
- They're not professional models, so they know what they can/can't physically do;
- They're usually more knowledgeable about the subject than the tog, or have their particular take on it, so they take charge of direction and/or location scouting;
- Ultimately, they're proud of their costume and want some nice pics. Having these pics do more for them than they do for togs, so it's up to them to organise;
- Cosplayers who are prepared with poses and know what they want is very helpful to togs for getting as many usable shots ASAP, esp in ambient/changing light;
- If the tog is also interested in the subject, most cosplayers are happy to take suggestions and try new things, bc they don't actually have -that- much prepared, and the location, lighting, interactions can open up new avenues to explore.

Of course, togs may also be asked to shoot subjects they're not interested in. Most togs I know don't get paid for cosplay work (they treat it mainly as a hobby and hanging out with friends), so it's very much within their rights to refuse a shoot for whatever reason.

If you follow the togs' social media pages, you'll see some might ask for models for shoots they want to do. In this case, the main vision, story-boarding, set-up, etc... is the tog's responsibility. I tend to see model requests for casual fashion, wedding, lingerie, etc... type shoots, but it would be uncommon to see a tog ask to shoot particular characters/series, especially if there aren't people in their acquaintance already cosplaying it. Most cosplayers aren't going to bother getting/making a whole new costume just for one tog unless they were planning to cosplay it anyway.

(Cont.)

I don't think I'm particularly friendly, but I've been in the comm long enough to be decently connected via mutual friends. As you say, circumstances and demeanor can be factors to how people work together. I think depending on how much work others put into a shoot, especially in things I am personally unable to do, I'd try to offer to pay for a meal or the like, at least. Really depends on your relationship with the person you're working with. Between friends, it's easier to drop money issues to work on something you enjoy together.

TDP is Trung Do Photography (on FB), a Melbourne-based tog. I think maybe a couple of his pics were posted at the top of this thread. I won't bore you with his dumb drama lol.

There used to be a casual cosplay meet-up event called MelCosPho run by a tog who wanted an excuse for togs and cosplayers to meet and take photos without the need to pay for convention fees. Not sure if anything similar is still being run, but it was a good place to meet people.
>>
>>9641087
I honestly don't understand why anyone would cosplay a real life person. This is where cosplay is dying.
>>
>>9645157
Very informative anon. Thank you.
>>
>>9645161
Isn't TDP an old Asian guy? What's the beef with him?
>>
>>9644665
I'm really confused, what actually happened? All I have seen are vague, indirect tweets and statuses...
>>
>>9645604
He's a bit of an asshole. That's pretty much it.
>>
>>9645655
Oh come one, you can't leave us hanging like that, give us some context
>>
>>9645161
Sup Wahid.
>>
>>9645730
Don’t think so. Anon said they’d been both a cosplayer and a photographer.
>>
>>9645744
wahid used to cosplay back in the day, and would still consider himself atleast somewhat a cosplayer.
>>
>>9645746
Oh shit really? I had no idea.
>>
>>9645753
What this person fail to mention is that there are those who have an issue with TDP are far and few in between. Sure he doesn't shoot with a number of cosplayers anymore but he's now shooting with a lot more others keeping it diverse. And there's few cosplayers who also do photography that remembers melcospho. So for this anon who I'm assuming it's Wahid to say TDP isn't popular with many people right now is stretching it and I too have an idea what has been going on as well.

I smell a lot of saltiness going on
>>
>>9645756
Lol have you even met TDP? He's a whiny 30+ dude who acts like a child (even the 20-somethings he hangs around with at cons know better), picks fights with people, blocks them on fb, goes around telling others about it (who don't care), gets mad again when the person in question doesn't care and ignores him, then unblocks them long enough to msg stuff like "don't post and tag my photos of you again" even though the shoot was ages ago. That's if you were a friend. If you just were just working with him, he wouldn't take suggestions from anyone, thinks he knows best and lashes out, whines all the time, and may block you for being friends with whoever he has beef with. If anyone is salty, I doubt they can top TDP lmao.
>>
>>9645779
Nah. Wahid tops it off more than this. How often do you ever hear his drama. I would say it's quite a lot. If you're trying to stir the pot you should try much harder
>>
>>9645779
Have you met TDP? Hes an awesome guy who has been here longer then a lot of people in this community, he's blunt and cares about a few people who care about him. You annoy or piss him off he will tell you about it, and if he's telling people about it is the truth not gossiping like brats like wahid who blow it out to get a gain from those childish acts. He’s not going to put effort into people like who just waste his time. In terms of criticism if you have actually worked with him you should know that he takes it into consideration as long as you're not being an uptight dick about it.

And seriously you really think no one can top those remarks? Seriously Wahid get better material and use your time elsewhere. Maybe look back to 2013 and the shit you've pulled back then, using people and backstabbing them by talking behind their back, blocking him and being a prick about it trying to say you're the victim about it. Don't forget it when you had these little kids wrapped around your finger and sitting on your lap. Then before you knew it you had a bit of a downfall, keep falling kid, can't wait to see the mess at the bottom.
>>
>>9645785
Not trying to shitstir, just telling it like it is. I wasn't even involved and got blocked anyway for being friends with certain people, and have seen his behavior since. I just don't think he's someone worth working with, let alone being friends with, no matter how good his shots are.
>>
>>9645803
But actually, yeah, I know what you mean about Wahid. I've never been close enough to experience it first-hand, so I've only got gossip from other people. This comm has got just as many drama queens in the togs as it has in cosplayers, it's amazing.
>>
What did everyone think of the Championships?
>>
>>9645803
Sounds like you got blocked for something you did but either you don't want to acknowledge what you've done or choose to shift blame. Again you sound salty as fuck for telling it like it is. Why else would you bring TDP into your stupid vendetta
>>
>>9645816

>>
>entire con happens over this weekend
>only 2 posts about it

What a fucking shit thread
>>
>>9645818
Admittedly, TDP's the closest to tog drama I've gotten to, since I haven't worked with Wahid. If recounting TDP's actions makes it seem like I have a grudge, so be it. I won't lose sleep over it. Only mentioned his attitude problems as a tog bc it stood out to me as something newcomers might want to be aware of. Good chat.
>>
>>9645808
Unfortunately it seems to be the case but also seems like there's salty ass people who has a vendetta over someone due to various reasons. Need to lay off the salt
>>
>>9645816
I don't know, honestly. I felt sorry for the Dark Link cosplayer in the Sydney heat - definitely not the right costume to take to a Championship. I was disappointed with Artemis's costume. Her shape was just completely off and she was in dire need of better support garments. But Wirru's Bahamut was amazing, as expected. I thought he might win overall, so the results weren't really a surprise. I'm a little worried about what this means for future Championships, though. Are contestants just going to go bigger is better? Or is there still hope for smaller but beautifully crafted poeces? (Not to say Wirru's wasn't - his leather work was gorgeous.)

I'd like to know what you thought of it, anon.
>>
>>9645830
It's Sunday. Isn't the con just finishing now?
>>
>>9645831
And I take it you've shot with him before? Again seems like youre salty if you're putting his name on CGL like this. And I bet he won't lose sleep over it as well if there are people he's willing to shoot with. To bring this matter out so newcomers have an " idea" of what he is like but your "story" is simply just that. Having said that, there's plenty of other photogs to shoot with. There are people who fit the bill of being an asshole than TDP. So stop being a salty cunt
>>
>>9645836
I'm actually quite interested in what the scoring criteria is for these competitions and how they weigh competence across the array of technical skills people are incorporating into costumes these days.
>>
>>9645831
TDP is a great guy but I personally feel he can take things a bit too personal, I know there was a rift between him and Moko and it effected him pretty badly while Moko doesnt seem to give too much of a shit and even credit previous photos TDP has taken of her. I really wish they could solve whatever the problem was as I really enjoyed the content they created together back in the days.
>>
>>9645861

Yeah, if we were going off a variety of techniques, I would have thought that the Melbourne winner showed the most of them.
>>
>>9645862
I dunno. I hear many things and have heard Moko will take it personal while TDP have let the matter go. Sounds like Chinese whispers in the end. Whatever really, for a photographer there's plenty of people to shoot with. For a cosplayers there's plenty of photographers to work with. That's how it is.

Now let's back to some wholesome matters like talking about ozcc weekend. Next anon who starts vendettas will be reported. Shit gets stale really quickly

It's not even cosplay. It's called impersonating. Cosplay can only be done of fictional characters.
>>
I've had the pleasure of being surrounded by amazing cosplay all weekend but there's a girl from Sydnova this year who did a Monster Hunter cosplay who was absent. Does anyone know the name of this cosplayer by any chance?

Also, I'm >>9645118 and I really need to thank >>9645157 for that amazing post. It's sad to see such constructive and informative parts of the thread get derailed by the bitching that shortly followed.

As an aside, the championships were fantastic and I feel bad for the person who did the Destiny cosplay; the construction was amazing and it was bad luck they had such fierce competition.

Does anyone know the names of the competitors at the championships?
>>
>>9646073
I just realised how many times I said "amazing" in that last post. I suppose I'm fangirling a bit, sorry.
>>
>>9646073
In hindsight I'm sorry I brought up someone's name, regardless of my own opinions on them, if only because the toxicity that followed was truly vulgar (I have an issue with people calling others 'c***', so maybe it read more badly to me.)

Having said that, I'm really glad you found my reply helpful, and that you enjoyed your weekend!
>>
>>9646058
I beg to differ. Cosplay's costume-play. Where do you draw the line between fictional characters and real characters? For example, the Infamous Harley Quinn only got popular because she has the traits of an impersonator; looking exactly like Harley Quinn but not being able to actually make costumes/props. Is she not a cosplayer then, just because she happens to be 'impersonating' a fictional character?
>>
>>9646118
Well youve missed the point completely
>>
>>9646058
I’m not sure. I think if the celebrity has a sort of character they play as part of their performance, it could be considered cosplay.

Like if I dressed as katy perry, that would be impersonation, because she’s just... katy perry. But melanie martinez has this crybaby persona that she uses for her aesthetic. It is sort of like cosplaying a character.
>>
>>9646058
Does cosplaying as an akb48 member or kyary count?
>>
>>9645836
What do you mean by better support garments?
>>
>>9646636

I reckon the drum farthingale wasn't a good choice of hoop skirt. In the source material the skirt slopes from the hips but hers just plateaued and then dropped. Plus the skirt had no fullness. If she had petticoats under there, she definitely needed more layers.
>>
>>9646058
I can understand where you're coming from but I agree >>9646118 and >>9646599 on the question of where one draws the line.

For instance, many historical games bear a wide range of characters that have been created with an historically accurate aesthetic; is cosplaying Gauis Julius Caesar or Sextus Pompeius from Rome II considered cosplay or akin to LARP? Likewise with many characters based on historical personalities from the AC franchise.

The portrayal is inherently fictional but the basis is accurately historical, where does one draw the line?
>>
I see that the most casual BnHA fans are coming out from rocks since the Anime has picked up speed. Why is it people that cosplay find an anime that has been out for ages as a manga etc then attach themselves like a parasite. Screaming about how much they love the series they got into 3 days ago and post memes and take meme cosplay pics of them in Mcdonalds or some shit.
>>
>>9646936
How Dare People Like This Popular Thing
>>
>>9646941
It's not that they are liking something popular, it's the speed of it. It takes them no time at all to embed like a tick and engorge themselves on everything to do with the show.
They binge it in one day, hop on tumblr, see the memes, pair their pairings and come out screaming like a Pterodactyl as they put it about everything.
>>
>>9646950
I know plenty of cosplayers binge-watch while cos-making, so that could be a factor. Reading is a bit more hands-on and requires more attention, so not everyone has the time.
>>
>>9646950
I think you’re reading a little too far into it. This happens with every series, especially the shounen anime with likeable characters and easy school uniforms. People just get their friends into it and it spreads.
>>
>>9646950
Yup look what happened to Attack on Titan. Now you got every week who has cosplayer from this series at least once
>>
>>9646961
Weeb*
>>
>>9646599
>>9646118
I think you have misunderstood. Im stating that dressing up as a real person isnt called cosplay, its called impersonating. You would be taking away the definition of impersonating if you called someone dressed as a non-fiction person, cosplay. Theres nothing wrong with it at all but its not under the definition of cosplay. If your actor is acting as a fictional character in a movie and you dress up as them thats still cosplay. If you were to dress up as Trump then thats impersonating. Melanie is a tough call because technically shes trying to be the fictional Crybaby in her music videos. If you dress as Melanie when shes acting as this character in her videos it could be called cosplay but her alone is not.
>>
>>9646936
Aside from the awful behaviour, I am someone who fell in love with it a couple of weeks ago. The people who genuinely like the series will stay, the others will go jump at the next season's Hottest AnimeTM.

The show is great and I'm starting the manga when I'm less busy. But you sound like you're just annoyed that you liked it before it was cool.
>>
>>9647133
No I understand what you’re saying haha. I just don’t really agree with everything you’re saying. Impersonation isn’t just dressing up as someone, it also comes with actually acting like them as well, which most cosplayers don’t tend to do.
>>
>>9647133
There was a photo of Daft Punk cosplayers on this thread. Are they not cosplayers because they’re doing real life people?

>>

ntayrt but I really don't think so. Most people are still overwhelmed my worbla armour. Creating something that big would require a lot of time and money and most cosplayers won't finish/can't justify it.

At the risk of sounding like a wk, doesn't she have a pretty huge following? I don't think a couple of anons on this board would really make any difference, attention-wise.

>>
>>9651332
Having a decent following doesn't mean costhots DON'T do things to cultivate attention, though.

I've heard positive things about Mel PAX from mates but never been myself, personally.
>>
>>9651332
It depends on what you're into, anon. PAX is very game centred, as you might expect, so if you enjoy indie games and dev talks then it's an amazing time. If you're in it for things like cosplay or artists alley, then you might be disappointed.
>>
>>9651605
PAX is general is pretty good, esp if you're into games, and there are plenty of opportunities to get free stuff. Riot is back this year, so League of Legends will have a sizable presence. Don't think there's anything for artist alley, and not much for cosplay events, but there are usually a lot of great cosplays milling around anyway. Worth checking out for a day at least.

men are simple beings when the blood rushes down there they cant use their brain which makes them easy to take advantage of.
what seems like an abomination to a female is usually sexy to a male.
>>
>>9653830
Men will do anything for a chance at sex mainly virgins. If you have a guy who is close to you and you vent to him about the girls you hate or think are ugly. The chances are is that he will agree with you and bitch about them to you for a chance of fucking you. But if given the chance he would fuck the shit out of the girls you hate.

Anyone else not a fan of these low budget costumes that are just a suit and no effort? "Cosplay". Came across this picture and that was my first thought.

I think you'd be surprised who is behind some of these posts. If you listen to people who say they only read here once every so often, they seem to know an awful lot. >>
>>9654859
Can you stop giving a fuck what other people do with their free time you vindictive cunt?
>>
>>9654859
Thats not black facing, that is her normal skin tone
>>
>>9654839
Personally I don’t think it’s black face, Rai is quite tan in realife. So what’s the harm in a little darker makeup for a character she pulls off quite well.
>>
>>9654859
Sure, if you cunts stop stealing our white hero icons and appropriating them
>>
I would fuck Andi so hard.
>>
>>9654873
No it isn't
>>
>>9654904
Aww, is someone feeling a little oppressed
>>
>>9654873
No it isn't.
>>
>>9654859
This just literally looks like she got a tan? It's not even remotely black face. Honestly they even sell tanning foundations in cosplay stores in Japan for these types of characters. How far can you go with tanning before it's considered blackface jfc
>>
>>9655064
Personally, I think it's acceptable if they're not doing it in a way that is demeaning to the race and culture, but I can see it can be a hard line to walk, and the line may be different for everyone. In this case it seems obvious that she's trying to do justice to the character, and hasn't been acting in a way that reflects poorly on others. A far cry from "blackface", which is generally done to stereotype a whole race.
>>
>>9655098
I like the way you put this. For me, any kind of darkening of skin is a no-no. This is because generally, the darker your skin the less advantages you have in society. So brown and black people don't have the ability to take off their skin at the end of the day, whilst white/Asian people can treat their race as a costume/cosplay and return to their privilege afterwards. That's just me though. I think this person did it tastefully.
>>
>>9654964
More I think anyone can cosplay any character they want and I'm sick of the gatekeeping PoC culture from SJW's. A great example are the ones currently telling people they can't do Aquaman...who was traditionally a white blonde haired guy.

Basically SJW's appropriating geek culture annoys the shit out of me when they try and force those views on people having fun
>>
>>9655511
Please qualify 'Asian Privilege'.

No I'm really curious, I'm a 3rd gen Chinese Australian that was born here after my grandparents worked their asses off their entire lives off during the days of the white Australia policy. I'm in the position I'm in now because my ancestors got shit done instead of complaining about how much they were disadvantaged.

So again, please tell me about my oh so privileged existence. Until then I'll cosplay as whoever and whatever I like.
>>
>>9655511
If black people want to lighten their skin for a costume, please go ahead. Just don't complain if other people darken theirs to be faithful for a character.
>>
>>9654859
obvious troll,
cause if you knew this cosplayer, you would know she is naturally a darker skin tone.
>>
>>9655511
What is skin lightening powder and bleaching
>>
>>9655511
I'm sorry anon, I didn't realise all Asians had light skin! Wow! I've been living my whole life as a Chinese person without knowing I could just tell everyone who gave me shit for it that I was the same privilege level as they were!
It's a good thing "Asian" isn't a term used to cover a whole diverse range of people and cultures and skin tones, huh?

>>
>>9655862
Background, who even is this person?
>>
>>9655659
>>9655740
Does it matter that I'm Asian too? Of course not, because that would discredit your views. I wanted to discuss this in a civil manner because I know not everyone here is going to agree with me (/cgl/ tends to brush over topics like these), but I can't be bothered going into discussions of racism when you all just clearly want to shout down anyone who doesn't agree with you.
>>
>>9655750
I don't know who Lani is, but I'm not her. Nice try though, anon.
>>
At the end of the day, cosplay is cosplay and people are going to do what they want. I get that. But I'll stick to my views and you stick to yours. I don't mean to discredit any of your views, and I hope y'all have a good day.
>>
>>9655905
Well you're as retarded as Heroine for Hire then
>>
>>9655862
andi from a-muse? that’s the only andi i’m vaguely aware of
>>
>>9655904
CGL is unfortunately not the best place for civilised discussions, but I agree cultural appropriation/black-facing/etc are important issues to consider in a hobby as performative as cosplay. In this case, this particular cosplay and cosplayer were probably not the most demonstrative example you could've used. That said, it's a shame when arguments get dismissed as butthurt SJWs etc when there is nothing inherently wrong about being aware of social issues, and learning to think critically about the media and information we consume, even while enjoying it. So I'm sorry to see people flinging shit like that when you were trying to raise an otherwise valid point. Hope you have a good day too.
>>
This thread got a little bit off-hand. Wholesome anon is back to post more wholesome cosplay pics! This time, Sydney OZCC edition (may do an EB Expo one if there's demand for it?). As with Brisbane OZCC, I pulled these photos randomly from photographers on my feed, and the Kotaku article.

>>
>>9656062
Aaaaaand finishing what is probably my longest dump yet with Major Sam's Maleficent. I like how she managed to keep it simple (like the classic Disney version), but also added the gold jewellery on the headpiece, and the embroidered dragons (?) for a nice touch.
>>
>>9656063
Sorry this dump was so long, Sydney Oz Comic Con had a lot of really cool cosplays and I just couldn't pick a few. Until next time, friends. [disappears into the shadows]
>>
>>9656065
Nearly forgot; honourable mention to Infamous Harley Quinn for cosplaying Catwoman this year, even if it was an AU. I think she should try doing other characters, I'm sure she'd suit them just as well.
>>
Thank you, wholesome anon. We need more people like you in these threads.
>>
>>9655979
>Blackface
Has historically always had negative connotations because the people doing it didn't like blacks. A person that smears lipstick and black paint on themselves to look like a racist caricature is completely different to a cosplayer that spends time to look just like a character they love (that happens to have dark skin). They're simply not comparable. You don't honestly believe that a white girl that cosplays as Shantae is a horrible racist do you?

>Cultural Appropriation
Utter bullshit again. Most cosplay is of Japanese characters in Japanese media, yet you never hear about them complaining about how you're appropriating their Yukatas and Jfash.

Both of these idioms have been made up by blacks (read: not other minorities) to victimise themselves yet again.

>>9656605
How has someone not honeytrapped him yet? Come on girls, you're formidable women and there's nothing men enjoy more then tearing down a creep. Record him doing it(There's plenty of stealth apps for your iphone. Upload it, and let the community do the rest)
>>
>>9656629
A lot of girls have proof of his actions through chat messages but they're scared of him since he has a history of psychotic acts and he knows where they live.
>>
>>9656632
If someone can organise the girls and get statements; there's a womans advocacy group that can assist and get a DVO on him. At the very least it will be a temporary DVO which will keep him away from the cons, once it pushes to a hearing and you can present the evidence, you can have him banned from harassing women entirely for up to 5 years.

I hate how anonymous this site is sometimes, because there's no way to out you for who you are entirely.

Kris is none of those things. The most basic amount of research and talking to people will confirm this.

You've tried to ruin his life once before to no avail, and here you are again. Resorting to 4chan because they'll believe anything and you don't need an iota of proof to post this shit.

I don't frequent here often, but is this how autistic/dramatized /cgl/-folk act at conventions? I plan on going to PAX this year, but don't want to be part of the 'community' of cosplay. Or, in better words; don't want to go there just to converse with others 70% of the time.

Would anybody judge me for avoiding conversations with other cosplayers after its apparent that their personality is something on the negative side, possibly some of you /cgl/ folk, and then get shit-talked on here?

Sorry if i'm taking this the wrong way, its not like the notorious drama Aus-cgl scares me off, but makes me question if I should even bother having bit of a connection to some of you (((very))) nice and lovely people here.

And yea, I will be lurking here for while, still.
>>
>>9658131
Dude, what the actual hell? Giorgia is super nice, works hard on her stuff, and she actually studied sewing. Lily bought costumes and passed them off as her own, went around accusing people of cheating in competitions, slandering cosplayers and basically being a giant dick which is why everyone hated her. Comparing the two is like saying that a cupcake and a rock are the same thing.

It's just an example of why there never has been and never will be a successful wholly female organisation or society. Emotional beings such as they are just can't resist attacking one another when they've got nothing else to do. You simply don't see this type of unhinged, pointless catfighting in male societies.

The bright side of this is that women tire out quickly and are much more bark than bite. Not a single one of them would ever express these views in good company as they know it would lead to them being (physically) put in their place. I say let them have this thread, let out the anger and whining and hopefully it will eventually expunge them of their vapidity.
>>
>>9658346
Basically, if you don't make friends or waves, you'll be fine. The people shit talked here generally are the peacocks, the showboaters and the dramamongers. Unless you're involved with someone like that you'll do great, 98% of cosplayers are totally unknowns just enjoying themselves.

Its just like going into business with your friends; eventually people get screwed over and it all goes to shit
>>
