Frequently asked questions:
>How much is a new suit
Expect to pay at least 2k for a fullsuit commission, 3k+ for something padded, and higher if a realistic suit
>Where to buy second hand?
https://www.furbuy.com/
https://www.thedealersden.com/
>What about Japanese suits?
I recommend Atlier Amanojaku at the moment, go to furstar.jp for pre-designed characters with a set price.

Anyone got any dream suits? Either ones you'd love to commission given your choice of artists and unlimited funds, or pre-existing ones you'd love to own?

Fabric.com and fursuitingsupplies.com, Mendels if you want higher-quality stuff. Also try "I'm Stuffed Fur" and "CR Crafts"

I usually buy mine in bulk off Amazon.

I prefer handwashing with woolite. Don't use a dryer unless it has a cool setting, you'll melt the fur

beyond these two, though, I'm in the processes of getting/making some other dream suits. I've commissioned a Zoroark suit which will be arriving early next year, and I'm just starting on a big twin suit project of Flammie and the Mana Beast, in this style.

Kemono style? At least $1500, for a predesigned made-to-order. above 3k for standard suits (usually padded). furstar.jp is a good option. Dozens of designs to choose from. Example of their work here. Pink one is owned by an anon
>>
>>9646738
Other makers are Mochiri, yohen (from Korea).
K-Line was the big name in the past, but due to so many people asking for copies of >>9646659, they've stopped doing custom commissions and only do predesigns. Now the predesigns are mostly adoptables, and are quire expensive. Some customers who got suits from them complain about low quality, though I've heard good things from other people.
>>
>>9646738
Oh no I've been posted.

>>9646743
Well that's because the people who work on the K-Line suits are kind of just workers/students of Rady. Rady doesn't really have anything to do with the suit making aspect anymore
>>
>>9646731
Full commission of a personal character will be more expensive than the predesigns on Atlier Amanojaku's furstar site
>>
>>9646744
Your suit is too cute not to be posted, anon
>>
>>9646738
>>9646745
I don't have a particular character to comission, I just want something adorable to walk conventions in.
3k is about what I expected, but would it be cheaper if I got a very simplistic design? Like a solid color cat or something?
>>
>>9646751
I'm not sure to be honest. Atlier Amanojaku does do made-to-order canines with digi padding for a bit less than 2000

Well, since this is how I got my baby I feel I can help with this. Especially because I had to explain this to other anons lol.

I used Furstar.jp (english link is on the site)
Prices are generally 3000-5000 but some can go as high as 9000 for one design.
The most simplistic designs tend to share a template of a generic canine. These can be as low as $2000+ but you have to keep in mind the 8% tax charge.

Next, be sure to read the description. Some come with extra padding options that you can pay for. These are purely optional. The standard will come with knee and possibly leg padding.

Once in contact, they will send you a quote form and ask for your paypal. You may discuss a payment plan or just pay all at once.
They only do WIP pictures at certain points, so be positive that this is what you want. They are very easy to work with, just be careful about their English. You may or will have to rephrase things.

Any other questions?

So, uh, this is gonna sound really stupid. But I figured you guys would have the most experience when it came to building large user-friendly helmet appliances that aren't armor.

I need to make a carrot. A really fucking huge carrot. Pic related. Does anyone have any recommendations as far as materials, maybe a support system, or a way to keep the bastard on my head? The furthest I've gotten as far as ideas is a couple layers of buckram for shape, a shell of thin upholstery foam to give dimension, and covering it in fleece or something similar and doing the ridges with hand-tacking to keep the structure from collapsing. Any sage advice would be appreciated.
>>
>>9646757
If there's room in there, just gluing a helmet inside should help. Though if you want your face sticking out that might be tricky.

I don't understand the appeal of dutchies. what does it for you?
protogens and dutchies just scream '12 year old' to me. I try not to think that way but... yeah
>>
>>9646756
Thanks anon! That's very helpful.
I may have to wait a couple months to save up, if I don't do a payment plan. How long does the whole process take from payment to ship?
>>
>>9646913
Not that anon, but Protogens can have cool stuff going on if the wearer splurged for a LCD display mask. I don't get how DADs got so popular though. It's not like dragon but fluffy and round" hasn't been done before.
>>
>>9646934
honestly, for protos, the only ones i like are the creator's two with the lcd displays. they're not protos i dont think though? i really like their suit either way.
really the problem with them is that there's a large majority of younger kids with oc's of them. i don't think i've ever seen a single good proto suit, most use cardboard or look terrible. lcd displays will never be cheap or accessible to them so it just doesn't work.
>>
>>9646938
What about Manokits and Sergals? Sergals were one of the original shared fictional species suits. I've never seen anyone attempt the Northern armor for a suit.
>>
>>9646938
I remember seeing a studio that made proto/primagen heads on commission with programmable LCD stuff for a few thousand but yeah stuff like that is out of the reach of most suiters.
If they want to have an OC of it why not but then it's a concept that is only really cool IRL and less so as a standalone original character.
>>
>>9646946
I like sergals as a monstrous race, they could fit into a d&d setting very easily. Haven't really touched them lorewise, though. Unsure what manokits are, I've seen one suiter and it looked like a fish crossed with a cat
>>
I want a Furstar or Atelier suit but the quality seems really hit or miss..
>>
>>9646946
mano's are alright. sharkdogs have always kind of been around, the only thing that differentiates them are the closed eyes which i never really liked about 'em. there's some cute suits floating around though

sergals and cruxes are like the 'original' custom species to me so i can't hate them. i almost considered making a sergal honestly!

>>9646949
yeah, those look great. when the suits aren't a construction disaster, it's nice.
i got nothing against people having oc's, not at all. i just don't find them appealing. which was kind of the point of the post i made in the first place. wondering what the appeal was.
>>
>>9646957

Six months! Which is very quck compared to most fursuit makers. This is because AA is a company and has a group of workers rather than a single person or two.

They are really simple. I think that’s the appeal. The backstory is neat and I’ve enjoyed watching the group grow. I’ve been a fan of Telephone since before the “Dutch Angel Dragon” was a thing. It’s been an interesting evolution.

My Dutch suit is unique. He doesn’t often get called one. I do get Krampus sometimes.

>>
I like to sexualize dutchies because it sets people off.
>>
>>9647239
Why are they even a chaste species to begin with? Creators personal ethics or just something that's evolved over time due to context?
>>
>>9647244
>Creators personal ethics
yep
I assume the creator also specifically hates vore fetish because they decided that dutchies also have no digestive tract
>>
>>9647268
They still have a mouth and stomach, so it doesn't rule out the softer vore. I'd guess it was more about them not shitting or pissing, so no scat, watersports, or diaper stuff with them.
>>
>>9647297
if someone really wants to draw that stuff then they're going to regardless, specifying otherwise is basically inviting people to do it out of spite. Regardless, this is getting a bit off topic now.

So, I've never called myself a furry. Never drawn anthro art particularly although I doodle all kinds of shit, never been into the fetish bit. I still really like the suiting aspect because It seems fun and cute, sort of social escapism. How did others in a similar situation get over the hump of "ohfuck an I a furry"
>>
>>9647386
I learned that the furries that don't interact much with the community are pretty alright and being a complete spaz isn't mutually inclusive with being a furry....just very very common
>>
>>9647386
Understand that if it's not a furry con, not everyone is going to like that you're there
Not everyone wants to deal with you and some people don't like to be touched or bothered by anonymous spergs in suits at cons.

That's pretty much my entire bad experiences with furries, people who get up in your face and wave or touch you when you don't want then to. Seems like every anime con has 2 to 3 of them and they can't take no or an answer
>>
>>9647413
>, people who get up in your face and wave or touch you when you don't want then to. Seems like every anime con has 2 to 3 of them and they can't take no or an answer
That's all I hear about other people that dislike furries too. Just know your space and you'll be fine.
Myself I cosplayed a couple antro and masked things that wouldn't be classified furry but somewhere inbetween, and I wouldn't classify myself as a furry unless you have a fursona, which I won't get, the whole roleplaying is not my thing. Still, there's a lot of awesome fursuits and I think I'll definitely design my own at some point.

>>9647438

They definitely are, and always a hit with children if they're pokemon and the likes. Probably a big reason why I make them.

>>
Serious question for furries, why are so many "fursonas" so damn cringey?

I think some fursuits are really cool, >>9646659
>>9646957 and >>9647162 for example, and they look really unique to me, but I feel like most people who make fursonas just take the standard cartooney wolf and slap as many weird colors and shapes on it as possible, and most of the time it doesn't look visually appealing at all

I know a lot of people who create OCs have the problem that they want their character to have every single cool aspect they can think of (different colored eyes, wings, horns, piercings, demonic powers etc etc) to make the most interesting character, but it just leads to the character looking boring and unappealing.
But I feel like this problem is so extremely common in (what I've seen of) the furry community

Not trying to be condescending, I'm just legit curious why this happens
>>
>>9647438
I thought the anon was asking for advice in how to act so people don't get mad at them
It's pretty much guaranteed that if someone is uneasy with you in a suit and you go over to them and start poke prodding or touching, they are gonna have a bad experience and start to dislike furries
>>
>>9647479
Advice pro mascots give: if someone is scared of mascots or doesn't like them, leave them the fuck alone. It looks bad on the performer's part if they make a scene. They're meant to entertain, not annoy. For all the "follow the mascot magic" furries talk about, they seem to ignore this fundamental part of suit performing.
>>
>>9647438
>>9647386
That makes a lot of sense. I mean I'm really just chilling, as an anon, but in a fur suit. Hanging with friends, taking pics, etc. if people go up to me I'll interact with them but what you described seems as weird as a Miku waving her arms in someone's face just because she's in costume or something. I enjoy the idea of pretending to be a character I like and I've loved the idea of Disney mascots and such.

"Less is more" usually holds true. You can do a lot with only a little, but people often end up doing a little with a lot.
>>
>>9647505
Good simple rule for suiting is always wait for other people to initiate contact, beyond maybe a wave if they're looking your way with a curious or interested look.
The rest is learning how to manage your body language when in costume so you don't appear overbearing when interacting with the public.

Obviously if you're just hanging with friends you can take some liberties but for the general public or anyone you're not familiar with, it's a good rule of thumb.

Newer furs sometimes want to show how much they like the fandom by being overbearing. It's the whole "furry pride" thing.
>>
>>9647386
I involved myself with the furry fandom for ages before calling myself a furry, and was in it way before I was into any other fandoms. Then I dropped out for a while and then when I returned I was hit with the realization that the furry fandom was the single best fandom experience I ever had.
It had been unconditionally accepting of a weird kid trying to figure themselves out, experimenting with sexuality and gender and presentation... nowhere have I EVER recieved so much encouraging feedback on my creative work, or met people who were so genuinely curious and willing to expand their worldview.

I guess I just grew up enough to realize that anyone who would judge me on whether I self identified as a furry before judging me on the hundereds of other things I am or do isn't going to be worth my time anyway, and also I wanted to give back to the community and destigmatizing the terminology is part of that.

There is already TheTailCompany selling animatronic tails, that market is already covered.
>>
>>9648519
If they get better marketing than TheTailCompany then they'd be taking the potential market that was unaware in the first place.
>>
>>9648519
No, the tail company stuff is simply remote controlled. You have to push a button to get movements or put in auto mode that just does the slower movements on a timer, this is pretty clearly different because it automatically moves with your body.
And there's 10 gazillion people that sell regular ol' stuffed non-moving tails and a ton of different fursuit makers, there's pretty clearly a big enough market to support more than one maker of robot tails.

>For a animatronic tail demonstration video
I shouldn't be as surprised as I am, but too many people can't into proper video formatting and upload everything in 1920 x 1080 regardless of the contents aspect ratio.
>Actual tail
Only things I have to say:
Generally, yes I can guarantee there's going to be interest in it if you guys are good enough at shilling it.
Me personally though, I'm not a fan of how the base moves about way more than the rest of the length, makes it look like it's not anchored properly.
I'd also want to have a better idea of how it works and how loud the servo setup is, by the look of the video I'd guess it's just a IMU or two for sensory input.
If you really wanted to corner the market though, there's no proper pre-made options for large lizard / dinosaur / dragon tails, animatronic or otherwise.Usually more of a hardcore DIY kind of guy when building this sort of stuff, but have no problems getting stuff off the shelf if it's on the nose for what I need and priced reasonably.

Anyone got any tips for adjusting the mouth position of a head? I'd like to try and get Natalie's mouth a little more open than it has gotten over the years, back to where it originally was. I've started propping her mouth open a little when she's put away to try and persuade the foam into shape, would there be anything else to do?

I suppose I could also look into getting a bust to keep her head on rather than sitting on a shelf, which would alleviate the weight on the jaw.
>>
>>9648770
Found it online a while back. I love this suit.
>>
>>9648774
That depends on how the head's constructed, and how the mouth attaches.
Either way I can't help you much, can't fathom the reasoning for anyone opting for a static jaw over a moving one, years ago or otherwise. The fact heads are still being made to this day with static jaws confuses me immensely.
>>
>>9648785
pretty sure it's entirely foam based
she's almost a decade old, I'm not sure how common moving jaws were back then ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
>>
>>9648788
How'd the head close? Wouldn't gravity mean that the jaw should be hanging or did they leave the head on a shelf for ages?
>>
>>9648819
I think it's been on a shelf for ages
>>
>>9648774
What you're doing now is probably the least destructive method I can think of off the top of my head
>>
>>9648453
They’re always leftists, so...
>>
>>9648774
You could try propping it open and then running over it with a steamer, but even that's a risk depending on materials. Steam is probably the least damaging of the heat treatments you could go for, but that being effective assumes it's a soft foam or plastic all the way through and no clay or glue that will be dissolved by heat or water...
>>
>>9648785
>can't fathom the reasoning for anyone opting for a static jaw over a moving one, years ago or otherwise. The fact heads are still being made to this day with static jaws confuses me immensely.

>going to try making first head
>afraid to try making it with a moving jaw because I've seen so, so many poorly made ones that look like shit
>but very confident I can make a static jawed one with no problem

Some of us are just learning and don't want to fuck up too badly the first time.
>>
>>9648905
First head I made has a moving jaw. Didn't quite work the way I wanted it to first time 'round, but with some internal changes it works well enough now. The worst that can happen is either it moves, but not enough to your liking, or you give up and make it static after the fact.
Don't be afraid of screwing up, plan ahead (ha) so the likelihood of screwing up is virtually non-existent.
Have any examples of bad ones? I've only ever seen meh ones myself.
>>
>>9648653
coming in from cosplay, it seems kind of ridiculous that furries own characters
usually when someone tries to own a character in cosplay they just get laughed at since you can't stop other people from making their own cosplays
>>
>>9648785
Not everyone wants a moving jaw and they are hard as fuck do to at anything that doesn't have a giant muzzle, reason for why japanese fursuits hardly ever have some with their anime mouths.
>>
>>9648932
You don't seem to know how intellectual property and character identity rights work.
>>
>>9648932
Fursuits are considered art and making copies of art in general isn't legal unless you have the rights for it.
>>
>>9648935
I thought this was a mincinno for a second, very cute suit
>>
>>9648774
have you ever tried contacting arito and asking if he'd do a refurbish on her? maybe he'd do it for such a legacy suit!
>>
>>9648932
I really, really want someone to unapologetically make a D.A.D. suit and not acknowledge the "OC" while doing it in the slightest. The whole "I own this species" thing is completely absurd, and I can't imagine that it has a legal leg to stand on at all. Specific characters, yes, but not modified recolours based off of something else.
>>
>>
>>9648938
I do, but they never come into play with cosplay. Kadokawa can own as many series as they like, but they never sue cosplayers for cosplaying their IPs.
>>9648940
same with artist alleys, you see a whole lot of unofficial pieces from various series being sold without any cut going back to the IP holder.

maybe it's unique to the furry community with their whole OC donut steel history, but if you try to say that you invented bikini 2B and no one else can cosplay bikini 2B like you did, they will laugh at you and do it anyways.
>>
>>9648935
For flat faced heads, it's slightly more understandable. Either way though, I've had more than one person tell me they find mascot suits / fursuits really creepy because of their unmoving expression, and a moving jaw's the easiest way to alleviate that at least somewhat.

how is that ridiculous? it's their creation, their 'representation' of themselves or something they relate to. when the character's a generic dog, whatever. but when you can tell it's a unique design with a lot of work/thought put into it, that's just rude as fuck to steal it.
anime characters are nothing like people's OC's anyways.

>>9648944
it's more of a respect to the creator and a community thing.
there's plenty of people who don't follow it/don't care. i don't like the whole species ordeal either but i never dipped into it enough to care.

I did ask him about if there was any special consideration for cleaning her. She's honestly in great condition even after nine years. No issues with seams or fur coverage from what I can tell, at some point I'm going to look into getting the paw pads replaced because the faux leather they're made of has had their surfaces run down a little.

The only thing I would consider getting refurbished are her feet since the soles are worn down on them and the paw pads are a lil torn. Pic related since I gave her soles a brush and a scrub today.
I need to invest in some sandals for her at some point.

>>
>>9648951
>but they never sue cosplayers for cosplaying their IPs
They don't sue because it is free advertisment that brings them money and they can sue just fine for using copyrighted logos. According to you, things like fashion design replicas would have to be legal which they aren't either until a certain % of the design is different.
>>
>>9648967
madefuryou/syber's suit army.
she has a bunch of suits of her character made by other makers, which actually really is a nice way of showing off styles. she's a suit maker herself so she does it through fursuit trades instead of commissioning.
>>
>>9648965
Bottom of the feet isn't the worst place to have wear and tear on a suit and the soles themselves are still solid and firmly in place, but yeah I need some new pads and white + black fur on them at some point. Next time I'm at a meet I'll probably enquire about both the sandals and anyone willing to do some repair work.
>>
>>9648969
except I don't think most furries have filed a copyright of their characters. They just have a verbal agreement to "not steal"
>>
>>9648958
>oh, so it's just a but of OC donut steel drama
It is possible to sue tho like how Nintendo used to sue some fursuiters over Pokemon.
>>
>>9648977
They don't need to, falls unter intellectual property either way.
>>
why are some people thinkin it's okay to copy people's characters or designs
what the heck ya'll
it's exactly as the other anon says, a lot of you hound ita's for wearing replicas. it's almost the same concept.
>>
>>9648982
For 1:1 copies, yea. But the wider issue here's trying to own a species. Pretty sure something based off of something but otherwise completely original doesn't count for IP. It's perfectly legal to emulate a style into something new, but not copy it.

This man. It's teenagers or weirdos who don't understand basic mascot etiquette. I haven't had my suit long but I used to work at Disney and even when you aren't a performer they teach you so much about guest interaction that being in suit at charity events and in public has felt very comfortable for me and I have had only pleasent experiences so far. You don't have to be lolwhackyaminal every second. A lot of it is common sense too, like if kids approach you crouch down to their level and don't push them to interact with you.

The last event I did was a sick kid's benefit party. There was a very young girl, maybe 3 or 4 at most who was very shy but interested in me, so when I noticed her near I would crouch down and wave. When she acted scared I would put my paws over my eyes and act shy too. After a while she finally found the courage to come over. I heldout my right paw and pet it with my left to show her it was okay to touch and she did. After that I was like a giant stuffed animal to her and we played with balloons and she kept dancing and hopping around me. It was a perfect interaction. If I had tried to grab her into a hug or chased her with crazy whacky movements she would have ended up crying and being traumatized.

TL;DR
Furrues need to learn to not splerg jfc.

Choose who you tell and be casual about it. If you act nervous or ashamed they will pick up on that negativity, but also don't be a dumbass squeeing and bragging about how kawaii your suit is. Find local furry groups and hope they aren't spergy. I found some through meet up and went bowling and did a few little events. My university has an unofficial club that I discovered through a member from one of the first groups I met with because they are in both and we started talking about school.

I told my parents. Called it a mascot suit and explained that I was doing volunteer work with it at fairs and charity events. I don't wear it around them or shove pics of it down their throats, but I needed a Hawaiian shirt for one event so it came up casually when I asked if my dad had one and he said "sure what for?". My friends are not comfortable going out with me in it so no handler right now but they're chill about my owning it.

This is the worst. When it happens I try to be as nice to the kid as possible or pose for the pic quick so the parent will haul that screaming scared child away. I wish parents would take time to slowly introduce the kid into being comfortable around mascots before dumping them on EB's lap or trying to get Mickey Mouse to hold them. Sorry I mean “whities” as in US people. The other two were either half black or full back. I’m a quarter so that doesn’t count for much.
They actually both made their suits and the rabbit is gonna start taking commissions while the otter already does (Kemocube)! I’d check em out if you want a kemono experience in the US without the shipping of JP lol

True! Let me migrate to my computer

Woman. Do not have suit and not sure I want one between people being inappropriate and normies automatically assuming it's sexual.

Yeah! You can follow her on twitter @remibunboy (which is also her FA and instagram) her FA actually has a journal about her commissions, pricing etc. So I'd go there.

Anyway, the story!
Pre thing- I got my first fursuit when I was 17 (pic related) from someone on Furbuy. A black and blue unicorn. I'm 21 now.

>Been a furry for years now but don't have furry friends, Didn't know about my local community but
>wanted to wear my suit out like all the cool kids seemed to do online
>It's November/December so it's good weather for suiting and family has planned a trip to the zoo
>Think this is the best time, so I go for it
>"Can I wear the suit mom?"
>she looks to her BF and the family. Not like anyone cared.
>Just says "sure if you'll be okay"

>Now at the zoo, they do an event where they decorate it in lights.
>Approach the ticket gates, didn't even think to call before hand
>"Are you here for an event?"
>"Are you volunteering?"
>Spaghetti drops
>"N-no I'm just kind of..."
>Panic.jpg
>Mom speaks on my behalf soon, explaining that I'm a unicorn and I can't talk and that I'm just here to enjoy the lights.
>Woman smiles and lets us through. I am now not ready for the public

>Walking around the zoo
>a lot of people obviously were confused but I did see a lot of smiles
>I had never worn a suit before this so I wasn't used to being blind
>Apparently a lot of people waved but I couldn't see, I felt bad afterwards.
>Kids loved me, but of course some parents were on the defense.
>Stop in one of the cafe's to get water
>little girl waves so I wave back
>Her mom pulls her closer
>I was sad but not surprised

Text limit soon, sorry this has been rambly so far.
>>
>>9649416
Be as rambly as you want! I'm interested. Your mom sounds really nice.
>>
>>9649412
Wallets are always unhappy when it comes to suits.

The finale though-
>The light show on the lake is starting soon so we stop to watch
>Mom's BF is military so he uses a lot of those terms
>"You got kids at three o' clock anon"
>I don't understand and trip on the sidewalk, falling back
>There's now a group of kids and their parents
>We're all laughing, my butt hurts
>Good times
>Then, a weight is on my lap
>A chorus of "awws"
>I'm not ready for this shit
>Freaking out because I already can't see in front of me and it's super dark
>A kid who was about one or two had apparently climbed upon my lap
>I can feel his little hand touch the suit's nose.
>Now I'm not one for kids, but in this instance?
>I kind of stopped feeling cold from the weather, like this kids smile and happiness was warming me
>We took a photo together and then the group left

In the end, I came to understand and enjoy why people fursuit. It's so nice to see people have their days brightened by you, or a child mesmerized and in wonder by the giant cuddly animal.
There were other times I suited but it was more for family events or Halloween. The suit was traded for another and I guess the owner turned it into a Dutch Angel Dragon
Uh, if anyone needs any advice on how to suit and act in public, I can do that as well lol Pic unrelated, it's another suit of mine.

She got super high and drunk once, proceeding to ask if she could wear my "raccoon suit", which she meant my cosplay suit of Pabu from Legend of Korra (I traded the unicorn for it)

I think I might do something like disney employees do

Those who get it will get it, those who won't dont matter
>>
>>9649498
or, just make a separate thing dedicated to that specific costume and stuff. That's what I do on Twitter
>>
>>9649509
Same. I have a Twitter and Instagram only for my suit stuff. It never crosses over with my other accounts/facebook/anything with my real name on it that can be traced back to me. The people I trust know about my suit because they're close or into it themselves.
>>
>>9649540
So do you never talk about suits to your coworkers or family? I am pretty open about it. When people ask where I vacation, I don’t ever hide that it was a con
>>
>>9649572
That really depends on who your coworkers and family are.
>>
>>9649572
different anon but my family is open enough to kind of just not care, as are my friends. Most of my friends cosplay so they just think of it as costuming. Some of them get a little weird but that's because of the stigma
>>
My parents know about my suit because im still living with them for the time being and it's not hugely practical to have big costumes hidden for long. They don't really bother I think they're just glad it gets me out and about.
I just explained it to them as being like performing for fun which it largely is for me anyway.
Friends don't really know, they might've seen something on Facebook but none of them have brought it up so if they have it clearly doesn't bother them
>>
I've never really been one for twitter. What do you do on a fursuit account, just post photos?
>>
>>9649592
post fursuit photos, furry art of the fursuit character, and like fursuit/furry posts by others or things related to the fursuit character.

Ok, longass furry horror story for October
I did that about furry lifestylers and people who treat fursuits as some object of spiritual awakening and I was kicked off a suitmaker’s patreon. Granted, I was already fixing to drop my support after she told me kitsune were sacred to her (But I’m totes an atheist guyz), bragged because of her anatomy skills, she would have gotten into MIT for biology if her father wasn’t abusive, and accused me of trying to steal her ideas after shopping around for another maker, comparing prices.
She then goes on a tirade to “respect other people’s characters and ways of doing the fandom”, all the while she was in the process of trying to resell an unfinished commission to her patrons she arbitrarily cancelled and refused to give the finished parts to the customer, only partially refunding. The character? The customer’s business mascot. The customer had waited six years and after asking “what’s up”, Mordrude canceled it. Her excuse? “It reminded me too much of my abusive ex, since it started during that time.” So basically, a fursuit project was triggering her. Mordrude is mentally ill, likely Borderline, and will try to run away with your money.
>>
>>9649826
Isn't that grounds to sue her?
>>
>>9649826
A big problem with the community is when artists buddy up and excuse each other of shitty behavior.
Anyway, here’s a question, should I rebuy the Red XIII >>9649169, or should I get a commission of pic related?
>>
>>9649838
It's whichever character you wanna be, anon.
Personally the XIII character looks WAY cooler to me though.
>>
>>9649838
What's the state (both inside and out) of the red XIII suit, and which character do you like more?
>>
>>9649836
For me, nah, but for the customer who had their commission canceled? Possibly. However, Mordrude does “change” the things she’s reselling so it’s not the same character. Her excuse was “my artistic integrity prevents me from giving an unfinished product to my customers”
Her “artistic integrity” also had to be dragged kicking and screaming to refund the customer for a big indiegogo donation. But...it doesn’t seem she did anything illegal.
>>
>>9649843
Red XIII needs some work. I’d have to move a zipper to the back, sew some parts together, and line the thing better. But that’s about it. Buying it back would cost the sams as a Greninja commission from my Zoroark maker

My parents are chill about the suit. My dad thinks it's cute and fun and even put the head on once, He's always been supportive of my art and is a creative type. He liked looking at how it was built and complemented the quality. My mom has no real opinion but isn't ashamed or negative. She doesn't really mind what I do it buy so long a I'm using my own income. Dress like the character would! When I wear my deer I go for J-fashions or sailor/marina styled stuff because that’s what she would wear. Just think about the character’s personality then that should help with fashion choices.

Would be so cool but generally that would require an immense expansion of the skillset of the fursuit maker so I guess that's why it's not very common. Plus the doubled costs.
That said you see a couple cosplay suits that have armor occassionally.
>>
>>9649994
So, could it be said that general cosplayers have a better skillset than fursuitmakers? I rarely see suitmakers enter suits into, say, Comic Con’s masquerade
I’d kill to wear/own pic related, also that worgen suit is rad
>>
>>9647754
>>9647923
DAD's don't have pupils, and they are kinda gross looking sorry
>>
>>9650005
Contests usually dont allow OC, and that's not really what i meant, i meant that there's a group that makes fursuits, and there's a group that makes armor cosplays, and the two rarely intertwine into someone who does both since you would have to have knowledge from both fields. It's just as much expansion of a skillset for a cosplayer to learn fursuiting.
And thanks! That's actually my cosplay from a couple years back. As a cosplayer im more inclined to enter a cosplay rather than a fursuit, even if it's from a known series. Judges don't really appreciate fursuits i believe and often don't assume you made it yourself, plus it's hard for them to guess the amount of work/detail work that went into it.

I like the curves on that suit by the way!
>>

So judges are biased against fursuits? That’s a shame. Not very professional. I didn’t know, but thrn again, whenever I search “cosplay masquerade winners” I never see a fursuit there.
>>
>>9650031
At that point, you’ve become George R R Martin writing about the adventures of a resurrected manlet and his dragon lady GF. OCDNS
>>
>>9650054
Yeah i think so, but a lot of judges are biased against multiple things and not necessarily on purpose. Not every judge knows the aspects of every field of craft and it's easy to overlook good work in a field you don't know much about.
Plus the fact there's just not a lot of fursuits or fursuit-aspect cosplays entered in contests.
>>
>>9650054
It's more that fursuits are overwhelmingly OCs. Look at the suits in this thread. Less than 10 percent of then are non-OC characters, which is all that's allowed in cosplay contests
>>
>>9650070
Yeah, that makes sense. Very few cosplay suits, combined with the percentage of suits that are masquerade quality makes the number out there very low. No wonder I haven't seen that many in photos, it's simple statistics..
>>
To the Anon who was posting about Kemocube, do you know how the ventilation in their suits is? I know kemono style has poor ventilation anyway but I'm not sure if western makers do anything differently inside the head.
Also, I see they've made a suit with squinty/closed eyes before. My character I want a suit of has the same type of eyes, do you think it would look like I'm copying that character?

>>
>>9650103
Clockwork Creatures won't do cosplay suits.
Actually, that's probably another reason why we so few cosplay suits, it's copyright issues. A lot of makers are paranoid about companies suing them and them losing their business, though often times they're just being that, paranoid. Temperance/Komicrazy, who made the Charr suit, might be able to make a suit for you, but it will be expensive.

Anon with the dragon outfit from last thread, making no promises, but I'm planing on putting it back on and taking some pictures of it 'cause I finally got to making the wing supports. Again. They see Disney going after Chinese knockoff suits, so they freak out. Now, some characters you need to be rather careful about, notably Nintendo characters. Disney is a no-go. But when you have suitmakers saying "no, I won't make obscure 80's character fursuit for you because licensing company nobody's ever heard of will sue me and I will lose my self-employed fursuitmaking job"
>>
>>9650134

>>
>>9650134
Looks good! Going to try my hand at similar ones in the next month, using some automated umbrella structure-ish with springs to make them a little less heavy to fold out. Excited to see what you'll make, the structure looks very clean

>>9650135
I see, i never really experienced or read about it except for cosplayers being repelled from certain events (e.g. amusement parks) because people would see them as staff, which is absolutely not what should happen since they don't have the same training or intentions.
>>
>>9650139
I mean I did.., Entire thing made with a exacto, pliers & multitool to bend the wire, scissors and hot glue. Don't really have the means to use power tools and actually get things done. (Have to ask for them, wait to be able to use them, etc.)
Whether foamboard's gonna be strong enough though is a entirely different question. It feels fairly rigid with the almost absurd amount of bracing I put into it, so I'm fairly confident it will be.

>>9650148

>>
>>9650135
I don’t blame them for being scared of chinese knock-offs. They do it to people’s OCs too.

Hell, I got a fursuit head of Alphys done by a friend and some Chinese company actually ripped the style of it off, not really the character itself
>>
>>9649918
Be careful with the sizing; go for fots that are a bit more roomy. Skinny jeans with obviously human legs that end in big, toony paws are a huge illusion-breaker... make it a complete outfit, layering is good for silhouette even if it might be a bit warmer!

>>9650005
Ime cosplayers have a wider array of skills, but the knowledge needed to make a fursuit is very different from the knowledge needed to design and produce a fursuit meant to stand up to wear and tear, develop a personal style, and get any sort of efficency in your production.

>>9650135
You can't copyright individual pieces of clothing and hairstyles, so commissioning a "Elsa" wig that really is just a specific blonde shade in a braid is FAR less risky from the sellers POV than literally tracking your steps looking at official game models.
>>
Is it bad that I want to buy a suit solely to wear it to one event and then resell it right after? is it easy to do that? I don't want to flip it for profit I just want to "rent" it in a sense.
>>
>>9650579
You might lose a lot of money doing that
>>
>>9650595
Mostly shipping. I'm looking at something very inexpensive and not a custom. Premade listing.
>>
>>9650256
I have the same machine, and while I havent sewn fur yet on it, I've sewn enough denim to know it should do just fine. If you want to invest in a new one, get an estimate on repairing the one you have.
>>
>>9650601
Suits hardly resell quickly or at the price you want.
>>
>>9650614
What if it's of a popular character and people are actively bidding on it? I feel like I could resell it in good time without too much trouble but I don't want to be out the money and have the poor thing sitting in storage forever...
>>
>>9650618
Those people might not be actually willing to commit or might move on if they don't get it, what you're considering is risky
>>
>>9650647
>Those people might not be actually willing to commit
Then why would they even consider bidding? You don't join an auction for something you don't actually want especially when that something is several hundred dollars.

This costume is animatronic. And it's for the Nut Job 2!
>>
>>9651093
Bit weird to be making it animatronic for a one-time event, are they hoping to use it at a theme park somewhere?
>>
>>9651093
Probably spend more on the costume then they did for the movie.
>>
>>9651104
>>9651105
Yeah, I have no idea why. But if some D-list animation company/distributor spends enough for a costume like this, there's no excuse that more suitmakers don't make a suit for themselves with these features. Besides lack of time, I guess.
>>
>>9651116
>Million dollar companies can get animatronic suits, why can't suitmakers who are probably not making/have alot of money themselves?
Wut

Though I do agree that it means there's no excuse for other big-budget companies to not do it, the Zabivaka mascot is pathetic
>>
>>9651121
Very basic animatronics aren't too expensive to implement. Simple ear motion and eyelids can be setup without too much difficulty, though it is quite advanced.
The real expensive animatronic suits are the ones that use foam rubber and have multiple degrees of motion for the face. That the only thing that moves on that squirrel are the eyelids, jaw, and maybe ears. I have seen furries implement this in their suits before.

i never understood the mentality of 'EVERYTHING NEEDS TO BE UNIQUE' !! people commission her for a reason, and it's cause they like her style/quality! i'd commission a lion like that too if i had that sort of cash

i miss 07-09 era cgl
>>
>>9651251
What was it like?
>Wasn't hanging 'round /cgl/ then.
>>
>>9651255
it was mostly cosplay and con vids, usually only a few lolita threads. lots of pattern/tutorial threads. drama/callout threads (shit that was fun, cgl got so uptight)
soooo many fucking name/tripfags too. most were friendly and helpful. lot of them were annoying.
it's such a nostalgic era to think of though, i remember the billions of kipi threads and the name actually escapes me- but a namefag who cosplayed a lot and stepped into a bit of drama. (lmao who didn't back then though.)

it also wasn't a blue board back then too
so that got kinda interesting

Makes me think of those really old cosplays long before the term technically existed where some costumes were even more borderline nude then they get today. Must of been great for that sort of thing, even considering the time period.

honestly a lot of the UK furs seem kind of quiet.
you could attend confuzzled and maybe meet some locals, the uk doesn't get many cons so a lot of people do travel for it~

You can wash fursuit heads and the foam easily becomes clean, but of course that's assuming they actually clean their suits, but i'd like to think since most people wash their clothes after they have sex in them they also wash their fursuits. As long as people keep their murrsuits away from the public then I don't really see it as an issue.
Oh and this fursuit is from 1989
>>
I’m so glad we all agree murrsuits are bad.

>>
>>9651530
As someone who used to strip old fursuits and fix them up for resale I'm calling bullshit on you anon. I don't care how good a job you do cleaning the suit, that shit sinks in and "cleaning it" only serves to push the mess further into the foam. You may be able to clean the surface fur but lol, no the foam never really gets truly clean.
I have seems some absolute shit reskinning old suits, where it was so gross I removed that whole section of foam entirely to replace it with fresh.

However if the suit is purely a sex suit for kicks, that's one thing, but don't be wearing that shit outside of the bedroom and buyer beware you don't accidentally end up with one.
>>
>>9651536
midori does cute suits but it feels like half of the suits they get commissioned for are lucario lol

i used to think they were purely sexual things but.. I kind of like the look now?
>>

I think they look good on dogs, since it’s a sled dog accessory.
Tack is cool on horse and reindeer suits.
Harnesses on anything else feel sexual to me.

Okay I guess I shouldn't assume people have any sense. I don't see why you'd spend $500+ on something you're going to ruin with something you can wash out.

>>
>>9651554
For my own purposes, I'm kinda worried about the whole thing. The character in question has jet engines (can fly, so as a assist) and naturally that involves harnessing for it to look realistic, (Can't just bolt them to where they go and not have it look like a cyborg attachment) but there's that stigma for harnesses coming off as being a sexual thing.
How'd I go about making it look functional instead of sexual? The closest analog to the strapping I had in mind was the 3D maneuver gear from AoT (pic related), but modified for the hypothetical stresses they'd be taking and the anatomy of the character in question.
>>
>>9651593
i mean you can clean it off the fur but anon pointed out that the cum has soaked into the foam after sitting on the fur, which can't be cleaned i assume?
>>
>>9651599
>which can't be cleaned i assume?
You can technically clean it but the problem with foam is, unless you're going to disassemble the pieces so you can actually submerge the foam and get the cleaner all the way through it, you really aren't cleaning it- only spot cleaning the surfaces. And if you only blot at the outer parts with cleaner you're actually causing the mess to soak further inward.
>>
>>9651593
>that link
Lol you can still see the stain in the last few pics, and while that might be clean enough, very few suiters could wash a head that well and to that extent.
