Is it worth even trying to get into larme if I have an uncute face, or should I just give up?

Depends on how uncute, female Danny Devito or average white girl but with a long face? I feel like larme is the most forgiving of that short of J-goth or super gothic lolita. So long as you get the make up, hair, and overall feel right you should be fine.

Try looking up Petite Meller. She's not traditionally cute face wise, but she isn't even going for larme and she still gives off a similar feeling in a lot of her pics.

A lot of her pics are boderline nsfw and extremely the "other lolita" just as a warning. I can't remember which but a larme brand put out a t-shirt with her name. Also her music is pretty nice imo.
>>
>>9651479
White girl with shitty Slav peasant genes. I'll look up Petite Meller, thanks.
>>
>>9651485

It seems all the white girls who are into jfash always have the same long face... anyone noticed this?
>>
>>9652158
Lots of white girls have long faces which is normal in Western fashion, but looks out of place in jfashion because they're compared to Asians instead of other white girls.
>>
>>9652158
This isn't true at all really? I have a short heart shaped face.
>>
>>9651483
I think it was Katie?
>>
I just received Larme 30 and with a quick look I failed to spot Monaca Nishi on it. She isn't even in the anniversary group picture although she is (was?) one of the most featured models. What is going on, did she leave Larme?

I don't have Larme 29 so I don't know if she still appeared there or not...
>>
Do you think having pale skin is important to the larme aesthetic?
>>
>>9652158
It's more like J-Fashion accentuates long faces. Blunt bangs, the makeup, bigass head accessories, lots of stuff in general going on around the head. It's not forgiving but that doesn't matter if you're having fun.
>>
>>9654834
I think it helps, especially with the dreamier stylings, but having nice skin of any color is most important.
>>
>>9654834

What like being white is important anon? Pfft. It depends how you style yourself and looking cute more than skin colour. As usual whites get the upper hand ugh
>>
What's so special about larme that it needs it's own category? It's just feminine normie fashion with drunk blush makeup.

It's a magazine. It'd be like making a kera thread and commenting "but there's already aomoji kei". Larme magazine made their styling a big part of their marketing.

Considering most of the models are Japanese I'm going to consider this racebait. That anon too.

>>9655157
Pale =/= not being African black
The OP image >>9650769 has a "normal" skincolor. >>9650771 and >>9655104
somewhat as well.

Unsurprisingly purely Japanese fashions suit Japanese people first, with them as their only concern and priority other than extremely rare examples. Exactly like how even with AP making their dresses very wide now in the 2000s fattychans anyone above 5'4 had an actual reason to complain. Make up is the same as any other kind, adjust to skin tone, shade, and face shape.

The only shade I can see it being impossible for is extremely dark shades where less than three brands have foundation in your shade. Otherwise play around with it and you'll look cute and accurate enough eventually. There was a really cute half-black model for a Japanese brand. I'm horrible with names though t.bh. I'm sure another anon will remember or have pics.
>>
>>9655341

Racebait against darker skin anons, not white people. I guess it's like when anons say flat but mean a c-cup or fat for 120lbs. I'm not used to hearing anything but Kat Von D's lightest shade and up. I haven't seen any Japanese models that are that pale even with filters that it'd be a question I thought anyone would ask seriously. They all look fairly normal for their ethnicity to me.

>>9655454
No I actually haven't seen that. She had a really retro vibe, down to victory rolls I think. And in saying that I figured it was probably Katie and luckily enough it was. Bless google for understanding "black model Katie Japan."

Definitely. I'm hoping that people are just busy because of school around this time of year but it could be that there's not much new large content for real. I feel like the usual western people haven't posted outfits in a while.
>>
>>9662290
And then people are busy with holidays, then with exams, then with vacation... People are just not that interested in Larme anymore
>>
>>9662290
>>9662525

I feel like there's much more activity on insta than there is in this thread/the fb group
>>
>>9662541
I think it will pick up once the weather gets cooler.
>>
>>9662541

Even jfashion is turning more and more normie nowadays... all of it. I think people just want to look more mature and "normal" these days. Plus Larme seems to only give people the idea its only the fetish style which screams Larme. Most of the models in the magazine are changing their personal style rapidly. Also a lot of the big western Larme fans - kinda dropped the style. I think if it wasn't for Risa then Larme would have not done as wel as it has. She literally looks like a little doll and Japanese automatically squeal over shit like that. No wonder the magazine never got rid of her... she brought in the money. Hence now why shes gone all high fashion and splurging out on big designer brands - her old dolly style is in the shambles now.
>>
>>9664474
Normie fashion has also become a lot more Larme. Now I'm not saying western stores copied Larme or anything, but when I got into Larme it was a lot more novel and you really couldn't shop offbrand for it very well. I remember a few anons in the early threads attempting and it was a little cringeworthy. Now you have stores stocking off the shoulder tops, lace up details, ruffles, etc so while it's a lot more accessible, it's also a lot less "special." And I think a lot of people who are into jfashion like it because they "want to be different." Now that it's been coopted by the mainstream it's not cool anymore... or something. On top of that a lot of the Japanese brands are really stagnating and not putting out anything really new so there's not much to aspire to there either.

For me I've just kind of gotten tired of being part of the community and knitpicking all the makeup and hair and stuff so I mostly wear it for myself and don't really post my outfits anymore despite the fact that I still wear primarily Larme brands in my everyday life.

would larme look good on a short person like me? (147 cm)
>>
>>9665095
Honestly, I think people forget that larme is pretty normie because it's meant to be. A "larme" girl is meant to be any girl who generates a "larme" vibe, aka it's pretty loosely defined. Even from the beginning, larme magazines always took normie fashion trends and added their own take onto it, but it was still based on what was popular at the time.

As for whether they will diverge soon, probably not for 3-4 years. Asian fashion has become trendy with the rise of Kpop and culture and China just becoming more of a global giant. Fashion leaders are leaning towards Eastern fashion (pajama trend, high-waist, bomber jackets) trends, so it's less that normie has become more larme and more that larme is taken from general asian fashion, and normie fashion is also taking from general asian fashion.

This is so disappointing for me because Im finally out of school so I will have the money to buy from Larme brands and other jfashion brands. But the stuff I want has been out of style for a few years and there's been nothing new to take its place. I think distinct alt fashions in general have been dying out. I haven't seen any distinct fashion pop up in Western countries either, just an updated/watered down version of older styles

Shouldn't winter be when Larme picks back up again? When people posted in the summer threads that the style seemed dead everyone kept insisting that it was just because Larme clothes aren't suited for summer.

It's getting colder but these threads are way slower than they ever were last year. I think Larme is dying down in western popularity.

I do quite like her outfits here, she didn't overacessorize like she sometimes does. I would wear outfits 1 and 2.

But what the hell is up with those locations? A shitty laundromat, really? She could have potentially spruced up even those locations with some video editing/filter effects but as is it just looks a little bit sad.
>>
Do the last two issues of Larme still have some of that nymphet vibe going on? I haven't bought them and I'm hoping they'll be a bit different. I actually like Risa's style better now (she was never my favorite)
>>
>>9690997
fucking kek
>>
>>9691000

Geez anon... you must be as blind as she is. They're all horrendous and tacky. She's tacky though so y'know... can't really polish a turd.

But yeah... the locations... would've cheered up her rags if she stood outside pretty places but they're all dingy. Maybe she was going for the try hard edgy though like "Look at me! I'm in shit locations and in Larme! So cool huh?"

Nevermind... Lets just concentrate on the next new issue of Larme. It's a shame Katie picking up her copy (cos she will) can't be electrocuted when she does. That way she can never dress in Larme again.
>>
>>9693163
No, they're not that bad. They're all pretty average Larme outfits and again, she didn't completely overaccesorize like she's done in the past. Still not a big fan of her makeup but even that's not as bad as I've seen from her. Personally I don't like the third outfit because it veers a little too far into Swankiss territory for my taste but that's about it.

I know you have a hate on for Katie and all and believe me I don't like her either, but the tackiness of the video isn't the outfits so much as everything else. I guess that's what annoys me. She has all the opportunity and ability to make something nice and aesthetic, there are plenty of places she could go in Tokyo, but she fucking does this.
>>
>>9689376
Great taste, anon! Now I'm tempted to make a wardrobe collage as well

Katie did - when she created that fuckmunchstrosity dick-chan.

>>9693539

They don't look good at all and those who say they do clearly dress as terribly as her. But yeah I did notice she toned it down with the many bags she usually hauls around wth her. Why? Fuck knows.

It's like clown make up - I hate it even on Japanese girls with that ridiculous pink blush. I get what they're striving for but compared to the over edited images of Larme magazine with porcelain dolly models and glowing cheeks... the reality is different when they wear it with a yellow/beige skin town and bright pink cheeks. It looks a bit ridiculous.

THANK YOU! You hit the nail on the head. She has the opportunity to buy decent stuff to pair together and actually put together a video with decent graphics/typography and she has all these amazing locations in the palm of her hand. This always annoys me about foreigners who go to Japan - these girls who live there and their outfits are bad, everything is terrible and sloppy. Yet the ones who live OUT of Japan seem to put more effort into their stuff. It isn't difficult!
>>
>>9694517
You would probably like the outfits better if they weren't on Katie. It's really not the outfits, it's everything else about her. She manages to make things look sloppy. And she may not be be fat or anything but she does stretch some of the brand stuff to the limits. But I don't think the base coordination is too far off. Are there a lot of coordinates in the magazine itself that you don't like?

Larme may not be for you though if you hate the makeup which is kind of a mainstay for the fashion. I agree that it can seem like too much at times though. Make up is often exaggerated/enhanced for photos but can look like a bit too much under normal conditions. Katie definitely strays to the "too much" side most of the time, as do a lot of foreigners honestly.

I don't really follow any Jvloggers since they seem like such a circle jerking shit show for the most part but I've seen what you're talking about. Some of them actually make Katie look amazing by comparison with how sloppy and gross they look all the time and that's saying something. And then they just sit in their tiny apartments in Tokyo and bitch.
>>
>>9694573

Not really anon, I'm not fond of her or the outfits. That's what I keep saying... It isn't just her but the way they're put together. Sloppy looking.

She does stretch but I have noticed other western girls stretch out Japanese brands too. Even Dakota Rose! Some of it doesn't even fit her properly if you find the shots where she hasn't photoshopped herself to a T.

It isn't the coordinates in the magazines (sometimes some aren't my taste though) but Katie just seems to throw something on which just... destroys the whole outfit. I don't know what it is. Nothing is ever... right? It isn't just her. I've noticed it with other people who dress Larme in the western tag too.

Yeah but not all the Larme models even wear the clown looking make up though. Sometimes I see Yui Kanno and her make up is so plain. Sometimes Monica goes all out but then it can be minimal. Risa's changes all the time because she's always being sent piles of make up anyway so it's easy to just swap and change. I only ever see that make up more so just in the magazine, the odd Japanese girl on Youtube or some of the western Larme fans who try it out but half the time they fuck it up with winged linger and give it more of a western twist anyway. That make up only looks good in pictures - that's it. Once you've tossed 8393929 filters on it no wonder it looks good!

Most of the Jvloggers such as Taylor, Sharla ect have split anyway. Now we are awaiting a fresh patch of e-fame hungry little bitches who want to be the next model in Japan simply because they're white, blonde with blue eyes or half Chinese then pass off as Japanese. Same old story. Katie isn't innocent with hanging around porn star Shani and then that Sere weirdo with the two kids from various host club men and then prostitutes herself. Plus people have said she's quite annoying anyway - she looks it. It doesn't surprise me.
>>
>>9694830
Eh I still think the outfits aren't too bad, but yeah they're not perfect in a ~Larme lookbook~ kind of way. I mean a lot more work and thought goes into the magazine's outfits and even the personal outfits of some of the big Japanese models on their own instagrams. It's a different level from some girl just dressing up on her own. You can find plenty of Japanese girls on wear or similar sites wearing all brand that have that typical "something slightly off" look. Pic related. We usually only focus on pics form the magazine and major models here so we sort of lose sight of the fact that it's really just regular clothing.

I also noticed that Katie's posing is really hunched in this video, which makes her look kind of dumpy and wrinkles her clothes in the process so that doesn't help. I don't follow Dakota much either but from I've seen she's gained weight during her time in Japan so it's no surprise brand doesn't fit her well either.

The models may wear different makeup in their off time but the makeup in the magazine itself hasn't really changed too much in the last couple of years. It's still heavy and blushy but that pretty much only works well under heavy lighting and filters.

Yeah all the jvloggers seem pretty annoying and I don't even follow their drama. Would be nice to see an interesting channel pop up but I haven't found one yet.
>>
>>9694830
>She does stretch but I have noticed other western girls stretch out Japanese brands too.
White girls don't realize that they have bigger frames than Japanese, so they need to have lower BMI (below 19 probably) to get the same proportions.
>>
>>9695147
Agreed. I'm on the chubby side and I am losing weight, but I also have to keep reminding myself that this is about fitting *more* brand, not *all* brand. I've seen some brand pieces that have <80cm busts. I have very little fat around my rib cage and my *underbust* is 80cm. Even if I lost all my excess weight and got as flat as a board there are brand pieces that would never fit me because my bones are too big.
>>
I really feel like Larme is dying off a bit... I wonder what the next J-fash trend will be...
>>
I think it’s funny that people in this thread cry that the fashion comm is dying, but when someone actually does something like a lookbook, you tear it down. To think that you can hold a regular person to the standard of models in Larme magazine is as anon pointed out above, pretty dumb.
I get the hate with Katie because most girls who live in Japan within the fashion community have a bunch of haters, but in general the western Larme community should support itself if it wants to last.
>>
>>9698450

But Katie doesn't put actual effort into her outfits anon. Plus the drama behind her doesn't help either. There isn't really anyone normal with a decent fashion sense foreigner wise who has a bit of limelight online. The only decent ones are OUT of Japan.
>>
I like Katie's take on larme kei. Idk why the hate.

Gulls, any of you have clothing from EAT ME? How's the quality?
>>
Agreed with the Anon above, don’t bring your lolcow shits to this thread. Her Larme is nice.
In other news, what are the best brands for plus size Larme?
>>
Volume 31 Cover
>>
>>9700444
I own three EATME pieces and I'm very pleased with the quality.
>>
>>9700444
I own a decent amount of EATME, as it's my favorite brand. I'm always impressed by the quality and the amount of details. A lot of my pieces have detachable parts not shown in stock photos, and I recently discovered one dress has pockets (on the third or fourth wear lol).
>>
>>9700444
Agreed with the other two anons. Their pieces are nice quality and have held up really well for me through repeated washing and wearings since they're pretty much my favorite brand to wear out and about. I think it's worth it even at full price, but they also have good sales and there's a lot available secondhand on fril and Mercari and similar sites.

Ank rouge has been doing a lot of eatme knockoff stuff lately and while I do like Ank, you can definitely see the difference in quality even in stock photos.

They're also offering a lucky bag this year with a bag exclusive dress and coat as well as some other overstock items, so it's a good deal if you want to get your feet wet with the brand. Be warned though, last year it sold out pretty fast. I wasn't able to snatch one but maybe you'll have better luck.

Anyone getting a RoseMarie Seoir lucky pack?

Randomly noticed that BonBon`s lucky bag is also out now. Unfortunately the items included don`t look that appealing to me so I am going to skip it. I have been a disappointed in their things lately, very few new things come out and almost none of the items excite me at all. Is BonBon going down? They were so popular when Risa started as a producer but the hype seems to be going down and I am not surprised why.
>>
>>9712114
Yeah, I haven't really liked anything from BonBon in a while. The Happy Bag contents look kind of like stuff you could find anywhere.
>>
Is larme dead as a style already? A while ago all my friends and their moms were into it but now I hardly see anyone into it.
>>
>>9712239
Can’t say it’s dead, when the magazine is popular and Larme brands are doing well.

The thing that westerners call ”Larme kei” has obviously became less popular tho.
>>
>>9704466
How would you know the shoes fit?
>>
>>9704466
I would say either way don't get the small accessory one. Not worth it at all and they really do give you stuff that nobody else could possibly have wanted.
>>

You might get one of those in the lucky pack if you're lucky but not more than that. Out of 6 pieces I got, one was something I could actually wear, another was kiiind of cute but didn't look particularly good worn, the others were kids playset level stuff... oh and a clear file folder because that's exactly what I'm after when I order an accessory lucky pack. Oh well.
>>
>>9714339
That's the preview of the LP though. What other stuff did you get? Stuff they didn't have in their webshop? They do have kids stuff but I assumed they would keep the kids and adult stuff seperate.
>>
>>9651485
Slav? That girl is from Israel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YdwIQf0FSo

But she's trying to be a French girl now, and I guess that's where her unintentional larme vibe comes from.
>>
>>9719563
Anon means that SHE is Slavic, not petite meller.
>>
>>9714339
Out of curiosity are you talking about the 3000 or 5000yen packs? Or are they both a bad idea?
>>
>>9720338
I haven't bought accessory one but after seeing some haul pictures it seems like you never get only popular/nice items but also some "left overs". Same goes for the clothes bags (I have bought those): if you get a great piece of clothing the accessories you get are often less exciting. And if the main piece of clothing is a bit meh the accessories of your bag might be really nice. Usually you get something nice but I have never seen anyone getting only pretty/popular items in their Lucky bag.
>>
>>9720360
But did you get things that weren't in the preview image for the one you ordered?
>>
>>9720376
The preview of the LPs is usually some of the items you *could* get, with others added. So yes, you'll likely get things not pictured if you buy the LP.
>>
>>9720398
I thought it was more like "you'll get 3 of the items pictured". I guess you're right and I was just lucky last year? I got a Rosemarie Seoir and Katie one (only accessories) and everything I got was in the preview pictures, just some different colors.
>>
>>9720411
It depends on the brand and the lucky pack, anon. What does the listing say?

For example, AP sells blind lucky packs of old stock, set lucky packs of new prints, and set lucky packs of old prints, and what is offered changes a bit year to year.
No anon on /cgl/ is going to know exactly what you'll get unless it says so on the listing, in which case you'll already know.
>>
The Laura Geller Hollywood Lights kit looks like it could work for larme and is on sale a Ulta for $30.
>>
>>9662269
Where are these from please?
>>
>>9720424
I was asking about what >>9714339
got in hers, Idk what the listing says
>>
>>9719532
I did get some stuff that wasn't on the webshop. The nicest items I got were a pair of earrings and one of the headbands. The rest was small plastic jewellery which I personally don't care for at all & it really did feel like you were getting leftovers from their stock. To be 100% honest I would rather have spent the same amount of money on 1-2 accessories from their site that I really like and would definitely wear.

>>9720338
When I was buying mine last year they only had the 5000 yen ones. Can't speak for the cheaper one but well it's a smaller expense so would be worth it just for the fun of it maybe.
>>
>>9712114

Yeah I agree... Bon Bon did well when Larme went VIRAL. Now no one seems to give a shit. Less and less seem to be into J fashion... all I see japanese girls wear now on IG is like snidel, jill stuart ect they seem to be going more normie
>>
>>9720707
I think Swankiss
>>
>>9720778
Jill Stuart has been popular with them for as long as I can remember
>>
>>9720376
I got nothing from the preview picture, totally different items. For me it was about 50/50 so half of the items where nice or even great and the rest a bit bleh. I don't regret buying the LP though!
>>
>>9721060

But I tend to see more normal styles now rather than Larme or J fashion. The fact Risa doesn't dress it anymore kinda tells us Larme is dying...
>>
>>9721651
It looks kind of weird to me that Risa still does that typical larme sad face and never smiles in her colorful high fashion clothes.
>>
>>9723922
Have you seen her photos for Angelic Pretty?
>>
>>9724083
I've seen some but I don't care about lolita, I just always enjoy Spoon photoshoots
>>
>>9723922

Yeah... come across really...

You know the Japanese. They hate smiling
>>
>>9725521
Huh why? When I think about people I know there it isn't true. They don't smile to strangers on the streets but otherwise this doesn't seem true?

I think Risa's style to pose (the expression) has always been quite serious, not just because she models for Larme.
>>
>>9725521
I don't think you've ever looked at a Japanese normie magazine
>>
>>9725845

Actually I have. But Asians in general never seem to smile that much. Normie ones are just bs to seem kawaii and happy.
>>
>>9725842

Risa never smiles. It's her image, that mysterious dark dolly look. She just does that post with her eyes and always looks really lost or jaded somehow. She does rarely smile.
>>
>>9727293
She probably doesn't smile because she gets laugh lines and that takes away from her dolly image.
>>
>>9727293
Irl she miles a lot though, not for photos so much. I met her and she smiled all the time while meeting her fans. >>9727324
what laugh lines, looks like a picture of cute girl smiling? The light is not the most flattering but she looks still cute.
>>
>>9727599

>>
>>9727293
I know but it doesn't go that well with her clothing style anymore
>>
>>9727293
Don't most models do that though?
>>
>>9727599
>>9727622
I didn't mean that she doesn't look cute still, it's just not the perfect dolly image she likes to project. Her pout is her signature look. She does look fairly different though without the filters and pout.
>>
>>9727968
Tbh I think her face looks really bloated without filters. When I saw her in person I was sort of shocked because of it.
>>
Is there a larme sales group on facebook? Or where else is a good place to buy larme items?
>>
>>9731983
fril or mercari is where I get my secondhand stuff. Western markets overprice larme items
>>
>>9731983

I'm interested in buying a swankiss lucky pack but I feel like no one will buy the pieces I don't want to wear.

>>9733209
So then don't get one? I never have a problem selling my stuff second hand, but I'm not stupid and expect a lot back for second hand larme items.
>>
>>9733217
Uh ok. I'm just seeing if there's any interest in new larme items.
>>
>>9733268
It's going to depend on what they are. You can't just say "i'll have new items" and expect immediate interest. Once you get your lucky pack list what you don't want in the BST. Why do you need someone to hold your hand and tell you basic shit???
>>
>>9733268
You could also just wait and buy the things you like from the pack secondhand. The swankiss lucky bag items go for pretty cheap, although the bags themselves tend to go for more secondhand.
>>
>>9733270
Calm the fuck down. I'm not expecting anyone to hold my hand. I'm just seeing what the general trend of reselling new larme items is. For example, I've had a hard time trying to sell Listen Flavor items. You misread what I said - I'm not seeing if anyone here is interested in buying my unwanted LP items. lol

>>9733363
Just curious, do you have to buy them on fril/mercari? I know you can get a good deal but SS fees and shipping can stack up pretty easily.
>>
>>9733437
Then say that? Your post was vague as shit.

And you don't *have* to buy them off of there obviously, you see them pop up on LM and larme sales. But if you buy a few items most likely you'll spend less going through fril/mercari +SS. How new are you??

How are we supposed to let you know the value if we don't know the items? You're dumb as fuck.
>>
>>9733655
Dubs confirm.
>>
>>9733655
Uh, are you telling me I should know what items I get in a lucky pack before I order one?

Isn't there a general resale value for each brand or lucky pack items? With lolita it's a little different because specific prints and releases are treasured over others, and it seems like every burando release is catalogued with a name.

I was just looking for something like "If you buy a Swankiss lucky pack, you shouldn't expect to make back what you paid if you don't like the items" or "You could probably get 60% of the price tag if you decide to sell a new with tag item". But I am starting to think you don't have any experience with this.
>>
>>9733690
I'm saying come back when you have items or ask specific questions to begin with. You didn't even ask a question to start off, you just threw out a statement about not knowing if you would be able to sell your other items. The quality of response you get is only as good as the information you provide. Now fuck off.

>i am starting to think you don't have experience with this
Lel, sure jan.
>>
>>9733690
Okay since I feel bad you're retarded I'm going to give you an actual answer.

It REALLY depends on the piece anon. You are better off coming back when you know what you have. We can give really large ranges to work with like you may be able to sell a top for $20-80, but why would you ask ahead of time to get such a huge range when you can come back later with specifics and get an actual answer?

In general, don't expect to sell lucky pack items fast or for any large amount. There's a reason they are lucky pack items to start with, it's what didn't sell.

>sage for this bullshit you could have figured out yourself

>>
>>9733802
NAYRT but there are resources, how do you think we all figured this stuff out? Anons really do not like people who come in and demand to be spoonfed information, because we had to figure that shit out for ourselves. You're basically demanding instant access to something that took others time and effort to discover without compensating them for that time and effort. And yes, you are demanding it because you're arguing back when you're the one in the wrong and acting contrary to the accepted code of conduct.

Honestly you can't have been on 4chan for very long if you haven't encountered this kind of attitude previously. It's customary to at least contribute a relevant pic (or some porn usually on non-blue boards) as a show of goodwill and acknowledgement that you are wasting posts and people's time with your bullshit. If we didn't come down hard on this shit every single thread on every board would be full of the same stupid newfag questions that have been answered a million times already.
>>
>>9733802

There is? Archives of old threads, sales posts, etc. Anyone who's been in Jfashion for more than like a month and who comes here should be able to figure this out.

Where do you live anon? In the UK high street shops are full of coats like pic at the moment. You might be able to get something more suitable for the weather where you are from a normie store, depending on what katie coats are like. No experience in that dept sorry anon.
>>
>>9734027
I'm in the rural US, so unfortunately no shopping near me.
It seems like the UK branches of HM, F21, etc. all seem to get much cuter and more larme-able clothing than the US ones; it sucks.
>>
>>9734028
>HM, F21
Those shops suck anyway, you're not missing out on anything. I heard Katie isn't doing well so I throw my money at them whenever I can but I don't know if their coats are warm enough for you.
>>
>>9734013
I own a faux fur from their older collection, bought it as second hand. I live in a cold country and I´d say it is still warm enough for medium cold weather, -15 celsius or something like that. My coat has 3/4 length sleeves so it is not very practical, I need long gloves or something haha.

For very cold winter some Katie coats are probably a bit too thin so I am not 100% sure about the coat you linked. Some Japanese faux fur coats generally look thicker than they are but my Katie coat is still ok!
>>
>>9734029
They are not? This makes me curious as I like their stuff, where did you hear this?

I have been a bit disappointed with some of their latest collections but they always have something cute and the quality is usually good!
>>
>>9734035
I heard it from my SS, she says the target group of Katie now buys a lot of cheap fast fashion and that the stockist in her city (baby pink moon I think) has less from Katie every season.
>>
>>9734039
Tbf it is massively overpriced for what it is. I get you're paying for the brand but you can't really argue that unless the brand is well known with a good reputation.
>>
>>9734050
I think it isn't that over-priced consider the costs in Japan. Everything is just more expensive there. The clothes I have of them are all made in Japan with really nice fabrics and the accessories I have are made in South Korea. If they lowered the price I'm afraid the (fabric) quality would go down.
>>
>>9733960
>lollll
>sighhh

Another newfag has a stupid opinion, what a shock.
>>
>>9734057
That's a good point tbf, it's easy to take it for granted that everyone just outsources their labour to cheaper countries.

Do you guys get the impression that a lot of Japanese brands don't really like foreigners having their shit? It's not as if the international market is hard to break into at all, and it obviously can be done because some sellers do do it. Unless there's some kind of hidden obstacle for these companies I can't see any reason other than spite?
>>
>>9734057
I agree, I have also been happy with my Katie stuff as the quality and materials are usually good.

Japanese fashion is a bit expensive and there are so many brands that have relatively expensive stuff but the quality is a hit or miss. The clothes often look nice in pictures but you can see and feel the quality is not good irl. But the prices are around 4000-8000 yen anyway. If you start checking the materials scarily many things are like 100% acrylic.
>>
>>9734101
>Do you guys get the impression that a lot of Japanese brands don't really like foreigners having their shit?

No shit. This isn't anything new.
>>
>>9734102
>100% acrylic

I have this theory that it's because Asian people tend not to sweat as much. If I wear something even half synthetic fibre it will make me sweat really heavily. So there isn't as much as a difference in comfort for the user, and therefore isn't considered a decrease in quality over natural fibres.
>>
>>9734101
I am not 100% sure, but maybe they feel Japan alone is big enough market for them so they are not that interested? Many brands still do 1-2 sizes tand that wouldn`t probably work in Europe´s or America´s market as we are used to having so many sizes available.
>>
>>9734101
The main obstacle is probably customer service. If they open up to international customers, they'll have a lot more inquiries (in bad Japanese and/or foreign languages) to deal with.
>>
>>9734113
Yeah that explains why on second hand markets a lot of people won't sell to SSs.
>>
>>9734029
>>9734050
OP here
I love Katie and have been very happy with the quality, so the price isn't too much of an issue except with things like this coat, where it's a large investment on something I might quite literally not be able to wear for most of the year.
I also buy a lot of my jfashion secondhand.

I just brought up HM and F21 because the other anon mentioned cheaper options.
>>
>>9734108
That is a interesting point! I have also read how some Asian people don`t sweat like western people. Personally I have thought acrylic is popular in Japan (and in Asia?) just acrylic is cheaper material than natural fibres. I try to avoid it mostly because it tends to fuzz or pill more easily.
>>
>>9734105
You got me.

Wondering how other gulls feel about it though. Why are we going out of our way to support brands financially when they'd clearly rather die than open up to the foreign market?

Also wondering if anyone knows the actual reasoning behind it, is it just racism? They think westerners are to fat to fit in anyway so don't bother? Limited English ability? I've worked in a really niche business that only caters to collectors and I just can't understand it - it's slow suicide.
>>
>>9734101
they are just not interested in learning how to do business internationally.

>>9734114
that's because they are worried about shipping something precious (non-fast fashion) overseas. they don't want to deal with something getting lost or damaged. postal services are much safer in japan than in most countries.
>>
>>9734118
>they'd clearly rather die than open up to the foreign market
You can buy Katie internationally though. For small brands it might not be profitable to spend extra money and hours on customer service, shipping, getting a system that works in different languages, making more sizes etc. It could actually damage the company financially.
>>
>>9734118
You must not know a lot about Japan in general. As a whole they're one of the most zenophobic countries to date. They've always been that way, it's just their culture.

How is this news at all to you is what's more confusing.
>>
>>9734120
>that's because they are worried about shipping something precious (non-fast fashion) overseas. they don't want to deal with something getting lost or damaged.

Not true. You run into this with all sorts of items. It's because they don't want their products going outside of japan's market. They'd rather sit on a sale and keep it in Japan than sell it to a Gaijin where it leaves the market.
>>
>>9734126
Who told you that? I'm inclined to believe what Japanese people have told me about it more.
>>
>>9734127
I'm Japnese. I don't reside there now but I have family there currently. But yeah I'm probably totally wrong because what do I know right?
>>
>>9734128
I work at a Japanese brand and you are right, it's because we don't want Gaijin to have nice things.
>>
>>9734118
I don't think brands would necessarily rather die than open up. I think it's an issue of cost and barriers. I don't want to turn this into a blog post (though maybe I will later), but some quick points:
>Language
Japan's English is notoriously abysmal, and opening up would require staff with sufficient English to manage logistics as well as customer service. On top of being harder to recruit, multilingual employees command higher wages. Imo they could totally hire in native speakers, but I doubt they'd do this for a number of reasons.
>Sizing
As others have noted, many jfashion brands produce limited sizes, and increasingly they've come under fire for doing so. Free Size does not fly in the West anymore, so they'd deal with backlash and feel pressured to expand sizing.
>Money
Most of these brands are small businesses, and they likely simply don't have the resources to create an international orders division.

There might be racist owners or designers, and there is some inherent biases in Japanese society, but I think it's a lot more complicated and nuanced than "racism!"
>>
>>9734127
>>9734120
Once the package arrives at the SS the seller has done their job so I'm thinking your reason doesn't make sense. The seller can't be blamed if the package is lost by the mail when the SS ships it out.
>>
>>9734129
Can you be salty about this somewhere else?
>>
>>9734127
>not realizing that Japs will lie to save your feelings

I don't think you actually know any Japanese people if you don't think this is a huge possibility. Japan is all about saving face.
>>
>>9734136
Honestly what you are saying sounds more like a stereotype than anything mentioned so far. It's not exactly nice and polite to say their postal services are superior to the rest of the world.
>>
>>9734120
There's nothing to learn though, that's the thing. As I said, I've worked at a company that's pretty comparable to j-fashion brands in that it only has a very small, niche audience. Although I was in customer service I know the logistics and financial side of running this kind of business. My confusion comes from knowing how this shit works and seeing them not do shit that would be good for them and cost little, if no money at all to do.

Shipping doesn't cost any more because the customer pays, Japan post does international postage so they don't need to arrange multiple pickups. They don't need to translate the website because they're not trying to open up to the west as a whole, just the small portion of people who already know and are already buying the products via SS. This also has the benefit of keeping people who can't speak the language off your website therefore making customer service's job easier. Literally all they need to do is add another dropdown box on the shipping options with "International"

Whenever we got foreign language emails we just replied with a script that basically said
>Translate this into english or we can't answer your query, sorry!
>>
>>9734137

Why are you so angry damn lol. I just asked what do you want them to do. A lot of brands do offer international shipping through worldshopping, buyee or other methods.
>>
>>9734123
Honestly they don't even have to offer English/different sizes/etc. I'd be happy for them to slap my address on the box and hand it over to Japan Post/EMS. It's not hard if you already have the capacity to process orders. I think it's laziness or fear of the unknown. It's why I don't pity brands that go under who never opened up to the intl market when there is significant enough demand. Money is money, and even kawaii fashion brands need to operate according to basic business principles.
>>
>>9734174

>>
>>9734174
nayrt but going through a shopping service or similar process =/= they ship internationally.
>>
>>9734179
>>9734181
I wonder if they could do that easily... Why would they give up part of their profit to other companies such as worldshopping if all they had to do was print out an international address instead of a Japanese one? The only extra thing I can think of that they have to do is print out invoices and customs paperwork. In their eyes, offering worldshopping and buyee is offering international shipping, that's how they advertise it.
>>
>>9734184
Because they don't give a shit about their consumer base outside of Japan. i don't see how this is even something that can be argued any more. They don't advertise it as them shipping internationally by the way, they advertise that as their recommended company to use. Most likely whatever SS they link on their site they have a contract with.
>>
>>9734187
Because that doesn't make sense, they obviously want you to use other services to buy their stuff. When I go to Japanese webshops I immediately get a pop-up with INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING THIS WAY!! or something
>>
>>9734181
The thing is, Shopping Services have a long history in Japan, and they currently fill the gap very well, which gives the brands even less incentive to put all of the resources into international shipping.
>>
>>9734190
But what resources? Is it a lot of work to ship from Japan to the rest of the world? A lot more work than to ship from the US to Japan?
>>
>>9734189
How does it not make sense they'd advertise the company they are in contract with for their international shipping?

>>9734190
Nobody said anything to argue against this.
>>
>>9733473
Seconding this request
>>
>>9734194
>they don't care about international customers at all
>they promote a service that ships internationally
>>
>>9734184
Small business anon here; it legit is that easy. You have something called a franking machine (At least in the UK that's what it's called) and it prints pre-paid postage stickers with the address etc on. When the customer pays the postage costs automatically go to your account with the postage company. If they're making postage labels manually then they frankly deserve to go bust because that's so stupid.

You can also get pre-filled customs declaration stickers. You only need to specify the type of goods for the import tax bracket - broad categories like electronics or clothing and give a very rough estimate of the weight.

I'm thinking the fact we "Support" These companies so fervently is actually shit for them; the fact that we have to lie and order through shipping services pretending to be real Japanese customers means they don't understand what percentage of their business comes from overseas and whether they actually rely on it to stay in the green.

They might open up to the international market if people stopped using SS, but that's never gonna happen obviously.
>>
>>9734198
Promoting a company they have a contract with =/= caring about customers. If they actually cared they'd have a translation for their website and shipping that doesn't require additional fees. Are you an idiot?
>>
>>9734192
I listed some of the resources in a longer post above.
You act like offering international shipping is as easy as slapping on a label and sending it off, but when you're a company or clothing brand, it's not.
At minimum, brands would have to invest resources (time, money, space, human capital) to recruit/train English speaking staff to handle customer service. In addition, there's probably some legal and tax issues they'd have to address.
Running a full-fledged clothing company is a lot different than selling your secondhand clothing or even running an indie brand.

I think people tend to over imagine their own significance, too. I'd be interested in seeing sales figures because I'm willing to bet that for most Japanese larme brands, at least 90% of the market is domestic.
>>
>>9734174
NAYRT but that's not shipping internationally, that's just recommending a shopping service
>>
>>9734201
If they didn't care they wouldn't have that contract in the first place. You act like they're trying to treat you worse than japanese customers on purpose.

>>9734200
And you are assuming it works the same in every country. I've never heard of a franking machine or pre-filled customs declaration stickers. We make all the invoices and customs papers ourselves because we're not paying for a service to automate it. It wouldn't be worth it to pay for that stuff for the 10 or so international customers we get in a month.
>>
>>9734120
>that's because they are worried about shipping something precious (non-fast fashion) overseas.
How does that make any sense? If you sell to a SS then you stop worrying about it when it reaches the destination (the SS in Japan, not the overseas customer). Like >>9734131 said.

>>9734200
I don't see the point. I think opening up to overseas customers would require English proficiency which a lot of Japanese people lack.

What's the big deal about using shopping services? If you are buying something at retail price then the SS fee isn't going to be that much. Also it's not like lolita where you need to be very on time to catch a new release.

My problem is I don't understand why fril/mercari won't sell to SSs.

>>9734201
The Japanese on shopping websites is pretty basic already. Most categories are written in katakana.
>>
>>9734207
>>9734203
what if you read what people are replying to, before you reply to them
>>
>>9734206
You really don't think they provide the same quality of service to their overseas customers that they do their domestic ones, do you? You can't be this dense, can you? The fact is, despite your feefeez clearly being hurt by it, that you aren't as important as their home consumer base and that yes, they do not treat international customers nearly as well as domestic. Making you pay more for a SS fee on top of what you pay for international shipping isn't them giving a shit. They care enough to take your money and contract another company to handle the actual work, but not enough to go out of their way to reformat the website or do actual international shipping.
>>
>>9734108
>>9734116
I'm Asian. Yes, we sweat pretty normally, except our apocrine sweat glands (the ones that produce the odor) are somewhat different. The other kind of sweat is a thermoregulation thing necessary for human functioning. If you are really sweating that much less, then you probably have some sort of disorder. Regardless of whether I'm sweating or not, no I don't think acrylic is just as good as any other material just because of my race.
>>
>>9734207
>My problem is I don't understand why fril/mercari won't sell to SSs.

Despite people not wanting to admit it because it makes their glorious uguu pure japanese girls look like shit, it's because Japanese girls who sell on fril or mercari don't want their shit leaving the Japanese market. there is no other logical explanation.
>>

You pay for the franking machine once and it makes postage cheaper for your customers when you send in bulk. I know they do it like this all across Europe. Only really, really tiny business can afford not to have a franking machine or at the very least a business account with a postal service.

Also I just googled it and Japan post does have business accounts that work in basically exactly the same way.

>>9734207
You really don't need foreign language proficiency, as I already said you just have a stock response saying you can't communicate if it's not in X language. What do you think they do when they get email inquiries from gaijin in japan? They tell them they can't answer unless they speak Japanese.

>>
>>9734213
I do agree. I don't think there's any other good explanation.

>>9734208
Uh ok.
>>
Furima appli (fril/merucari) sellers don’t sell to SS because the buyers are male, don’t follow seller instruction (self intro, comment before buying), and don’t confirm receipt (buyer has to confirm they receive package &leave feedback before seller is paid). Also furima app company discourage “resellers” (scalpers). Actually this recently happened in Singapore with a company that served as a shopping service for Taobao/Alibaba

Japanese business don’t sell overseas because language barrier, annoyance of dealing with international shipping. Have to fill out custom form, for some countries also need additional invoice + copies for outside of box. International shipping is higher chance of package being lost. Also customers complaint if package is lost, not received fast enough, or customs fees. Japan is usually not allowing returns or purchases, so more foreign customer complaints. probably higher credit card processing difficulty and fees as well.
>>
>>9734213
It's also to try and protect the market's pricing. You might not be aware, but many jfashions have suffered from SS and scalpers scooping up cheap finds and jacking the prices up, which then outprices the domestic market.

Stores like Angelic Pretty have dress codes for in store releases they anticipate will be very popular for this reason. Maybe they just accept that they can't do anything to combat it other than limit purchases if they sell online.

I personally don't sell to people who run resale shops, so I understand the sentiment. It would be better if they implemented a system for international shipping where the seller didn't have to do much work, but maybe they just can't right now.

I feel like a lot of people are reading a whole lot of negative intent here when there isn't any.
>>
>>9734234
And then you have shitty international customers like Kelly Eden forcing brands to allow them to return items, threatening credit card chargebacks (didn't a lolita chargeback from AP a few years ago), etc.
>>
>>9734237
To be fair I don't think them wanting to keep their items in the domestic market is malicious. Sucks from an outsiders perspective but it makes sense to me.
>>
>>9734207
>What's the big deal about using shopping services? If you are buying something at retail price then the SS fee isn't going to be that much.
You pay SS fees on each item and you pay internal shipping in Japan. With the cheapest service I know that's still an extra 860 yen, which is a huge deterrent for making small orders. Then it also takes extra time for the internal shipping, and it's a hassle to have to pay multiple times. Where so many Larme trends are attainable in the west now I haven't bothered doing an SS order in a whole year because I don't have to go through the hassle.
