Blade Runner 2049 is surprisingly good edition
Post fursuit pics, discuss construction techniques, performance tips, tutorials, and con info.

Frequently asked questions:
>How much is a new suit
Expect to pay at least 2k for a fullsuit commission, 3k+ for something padded, and higher if a realistic suit
>Where to buy second hand?

>fur supplies?
Fabric.com and fursuitingsupplies.com, Mendels if you want higher-quality stuff. Also try "I'm Stuffed Fur" and "CR Crafts"
>Foam?
I usually buy mine in bulk off Amazon.
>How to clean?
I prefer handwashing with woolite. Don't use a dryer unless it has a cool setting, you'll melt the fur

What's the general opinion on this style of suit?
>>
>>9652167
The face reminds me of 90s videogame mascots like Bubsy. Otherwise, I like dropped crotch suits.
>>
Has anyone tried turning a teddy bear into a fursuit?
>>
>>9652187
Wasn't there some normie fad where they bought giant teddies and hollowed them out?
Most of them were pretty much removing the stuffing but I imagine it might be viable providing you find a way to completely redesign the inside and have eyes to see out of.
>>
>>9652219
Yeah, I saw those, but I was thinking more along the lines of the bear maintaining its "stuffed" form, while working as a suit. I know Midori makes those plush suits (Which I prefer with the 2D eyes...the follow me ones kinda creep me out), so maybe something like that?
>>
>>9652221
Yeah, I think teddies would look really nice as fursuits.

Speaking of which you might be interested in this channel if you haven't seen it already, he sometimes posts teddy suit videos.
https://www.youtube.com/user/mascotmatt
>>
>>9652224
Oh! I've seen that one. I so want to wear one of those bear suits. To be honest, I've actually contacted his company (and even spoke to him!) about whether I could do that stuff in the LA area. Since I'm the same height and weight as him, I'd fit in the bear suits, though there was already someone in the area who he calls on for that stuff. But that was years ago, maybe there's an opening? I should try finding out...

You guys know that the teddy bear thing is a kink thing right? People pretend to be stuck in them. It goes along with plushification

Not sure, though it might be a “cartoons/mascots are for kids” situation.

>>
>>9652236
I’m content with making my own suits I guess. Make the suit you want to wear, maybe commision a few. But I guess it’s worth a shot looking for small gigs here and there
>>
>>9652239
I’ve read that Disney sometimes sizes you down for suits if a character needs a lot of presence at the park. I’m actually around 5’5.5, so I mighr be put in the high-limit for Chip and Dale. Which I’s absolutely love to do.
Here’s a question, what height is for Nick and Judy?
>>
>>9652240
That mom was a bitch, too. Yeah, Pluto shouldn't've gone after the kid, but it's not like she had to push him over once she'd already stopped him. Wonder where the kid learned him manners from. And where the fuck was his handler?
>>
>>9652245
Apparently some parents encourage their kids to kick mascots in the balls, even if they don't want to, it was probably her idea

Wow, even if I wanted to, I have no hope. Maybe Jack Sparrow if it wasn't for literally everything else.
>>

Not this year, but maybe Anime Expo and LA Comic Con after that, possibly others. I’m generally limited to that area due to PhD obligations
>>
>>9652337
Meh, i don't really care about the vilous stuff but I just like the critters in design. Worldbuilding is something I could get into later, but I feel like it's my own prerogative if I want to develop an alternate story. Sadly, I am a nub and have no idea if people would get pissy

Concept art for the character. Will be done in 9 months, max time is 12. I recommend Atlier Amanojaku because of this.
>>
How long is the average fursuit maker's backlog for them to reach years-long?
>>
>>9652577
Depends on the maker. Atlier Amanojaku is more of a company than a self-employed maker, so they get your suit done depending on how long you want to draw out the payments. Could be just a few months, up to a year.
Other makers will open for commissions while still working on the last batch so they can take that sweet downpayment money: they then tell you "It'll be a year until I get to you because of my backlog, but I needed the money lol XD"
>>
>>9652511
very nice anon, I like how the legs and chest turned out a lot!

>>9652577
My maker for my Christmas Bori started taking orders in September but she starts them next year (and advertises as such so people know when to expect their suit to be made) and takes 2 months or so to make each suit.

Girl with smile. easy
>>

>neck ruff in art: fluffy and short
>neck ruff on suit: thin and long enough
to look floppy
>hair is just flat pieces of fake fur instead of being sculpted
>color clashes
>horns or antennae? unclear design.
>weird long fur skirt that adds unattractive bulk to the costume

You do you anon but even if the concept of "bee cat" sounds adorable, this execution is. Yikes.

>>
>>9652664
She may make the design so complicated and hard to copy that Rufen loses the original charm. She worries too much about people copying her character.

RUFEN, THE FINAL FORM:
-Centaur legs connected to move with the front ones
-2 Tails that sway upright
-6 arms that also move like the fake legs
-Blinking eyes
-Giant peacock wings and tiny dragon wings
-Clawed feet
-Antenna
-Rabbit ears
-6 horns
-A mouth that shoots fire

It's not that she doesn't have time for K-Line. it's more that Eixin wants K-Line to be some huge profit machine while he really doesn't anything but the management. He always teams up with whoever is the most popular female maker in Japan at the time after losing his previous partner and uses that one's work as product example while the quality of the studio works will never reach that one's (he did the same with FZSW, Loki was in fact made for him so they could do PR as fursuit maker couple, pic related).

Good Job! Wish I had more to say about it, but it came together really well. Maybe a tiny bit of noticeable chest (unless that's just material creasing) if I had to be extremely pessimistic, but that doesn't have anything to do with the costume, so yea.
>>
>>9652684
Was it on tumblr by chance? If it was, there's a way to recover old posts through other peoples reblogs if you're willing to manually wade your way through peoples tumblr accounts.
>>
>>9652681
That sounds pretty shitty. Is it possible that K-Line might close/rebrand someday?
Anyway, If Eixin wants them to be popular, having recolor adoptables only as what you can commisison really won’t help. Their original showcase idea was much better. But, to go even further, they might consider opening for general commissions. Problem with that is Rufen copycats. But yeah, he’ll never make it big if they keep on doing what they’re doing now.
>>
>>9652681
This black foam makes me wonder why not more bases are done with the stronger eva foam (it's stronger than upholstery foam but doesnt break like resin)

>>9652688
Thanks! I think for improvs ill redo the black shoulder bands to be bigger and tighter to my chest, and maybe shave down the chest more while shaping the spikes at the neck
>>
>>9652691
I don’t think it was. I remember years ago looking through that stuff. FZSW had a tumblr a year or two ago, though, “redseedblue”. She deleted it, unfortunately.
Are Eixin and Rady an actual couple or just business partners?
>>
>>9652693
Yeah, what kind of foam is that?
>>
>>9652691
Nope, was the blog that was part of http://eixinweb.jp/

>>9652692
It's not about Eixin wanting K-Line to be popular rather than making lots of money fast. I mean, look how well the cat showcase sold, they sold 9 ¥500k suits within two days, thats 40365USD. Tthat while they didn't even finish ANY of their Showcase waves, since they announced the first one in winter 2015, yet.
>>
>>9652697
Wait, so people haven’t received their finished previous showcase suits yet? Ahhh, it’s the “backlog but we’ll still open” deal
>>
>>9652695
I think it's just upholstery foam. The store I buy from also has upholstery foam in black and all sorts of other colors. Noise-cancelling foam mats with the weird bumps are also black but is also polyether i believe.
>>
>>9652700
Ah, just standard foam. The rule of thumb is high density for head, medium for body, right?
>>
>>9652699
First wave misses the cerberus and pink chibi deer, the second wave from december 2016 misses the white bunny and green deer. I am not surprised about that taking ages btw, they are always weekly at events selling premade realistic wolf heads and tails.

I honestly don’t know? It just seems like this is their thing over there.

Also to respond to your other thing, K-Line has always had a problem with backlogs, see the girl who waited two years for a fursuit that yes, was cute but didn’t match her reference lol.
Rady has nothing to do was K-Line now because of her depression with the Rufen copies situation. The people who make the K-Line suits are kind of like students/understudies, so you aren’t really getting a certified Rady product besides the namebrand lol
>>
>>9652726
In the end, that's just going to hurt Rady's image as a suitmaker, even though she has nothing to do with the company anymore

Guy with the dragon outfit from a couple of threads ago, went and made some minor modifications and took pictures.
Most of which came out terrible because I'm edging on blind with the head on, (hardly anything out of the ordinary). Less so then before though, 'cause I installed mini stereo periscopes that come out into the googles, a notable improvement but still hardly perfect.
Still in it (sans head and hands of course) as I type this, so if anyone wants specific angles, I'll keep it on for probably about the inside of a hour. (As long as nothing comes up.)

Now that the wing supports are in and didn't collapse under their own weight (but won't stay up without assistance though, so something to fix) I can show off the wing span properly. Somewhere in the realm of just under 3m wide (I'll have to get someone else to measure it later.)
No head on for this 'cause I was getting a bit fed up with the camera turning off on me when I was putting it on.
>>
>>9652817
If that's for me, periscopes that go into the goggles, as well as the original slits in the eyes themselves (Plexiglass with duct tape colour. Works surprisingly well) giving a little bit of periphery vision.
There's a zip that runs along one side of the scutes down to where the belt line is to get in.

No problem. Sad to say the back's not nearly as interesting as the front. I'd have something airbrushed there, if I could.
You don't get a proper appreciation for how wide ~3m is until you try to photograph it, this was the best one out of four. For whenever a new one gets made though, I want it to be slightly wider, but way longer down the body, 'cause right now it's way too thin.

Sorry I guess that wasn't the best explanation but yes they're way too bright when compared to what seems like an otherwise realistically and more natural toned suit. I feel like the bright green eyes are somewhat of a kiddie choice of color but not the actual shape or the way they look to have been made. I get that they wanted that contrast to the dark fur but it's overpowering.
>>
>>9652956
...I don’t think you know what Photoshop is anon. Those are painted resin dome eyes. The back side has glossy black paint with metallic green. There may be an LED drilled into the eyes as well

West wise, Ponponsushi and Kemocube do good stuff. StuffedPandaStudios is getting into the kemono style. There's also Priamwolf in France. Pawaii are newer makers but I don't know when they're taking commissions.

East wise, Atelier Amanojaku and Yohen (Korea) are good. There's Ahuen who is also in Korea. Mochiri mentioned she might one day take commissions, I heard starting in November. A JP friend of mine might do international work too but we'll see what he decides first.

If Kemosuki/iSoniku wasn't closing definitely for commissions I'd recommend them but, yeah they're done with custom suits.

I've been wanting a fursuit for the longest and I feel like every year it just gets harder and harder to find someone to commision. Basically what I want done is a skintight suit(so i can wear clothes) a head(with a wig on it) and tail all done in a realistic style. Does anyone have any recommendations(that are actually taking commissions and not full or sick and in the hospital etc etc)? Pic for reference.

Personally don't assume it's a fetish thing if it has a purpose, but I know some people do assume regardless, and that's a bit of a problem I'm having. A character I have in mind has jet engines (a dragon, so as a assist) and for them to look realistic, they need a harness to keep them in place (Can't just bolt them to where they go and not have it look like a cyborg attachment), but that creeps into the whole "harnesses are a sexual" thing.
How'd I go about making it look functional instead of sexual? The closest analog to the strapping I had in mind was the 3D maneuver gear from AoT (pic related), but modified for the hypothetical stresses they'd be taking and the anatomy of the character in question.

A 1000 hours in paint to try to illustrate the problem (not perfectly to scale or 100% representative of actual theoretical necessary strapping). The main problem being the wing membrane length (which might be understated in the drawing) making backpack straps impossible, and the space between the wings making it impractical to put the jets there. (It'd be a lot narrower than the drawing shows)
>>
>>9653556
I don't see the problem. It looks like you've already found the only workable places to put the jet pack straps.
>>
>>9653240
>>9653321
Depends on the suit, but there is usually some source of air flow from western style eyes unlike most kemono ones. If you've got plastic on your eyes and a tiny, basically closed mouth, it can be a lot harder in comparison.
>>
>>9653573
The problem isn't so much where to put the straps, it's I don't want it to come off as fetish gear, even though that's not even remotely what it is.
It's more complicated than just backpack straps, and as much as I don't like it, there are visual parallels to bondage gear that I can't seem to get around.
>>
>>9653587
you might be able to get around it looking like bondage gear by the type of material you use for the straps
>>
>>9653590
To my knowledge it's mostly leather, isn't it? Not exactly my first choice. (stretches too much for adequate support). That'd be nylon, seems to be the most realistic choice for this sort of thing. (Along with the necessary buckles to clip things together with.)

You're always going to have people who will draw parallels with the fetish. It's inevitable at this point, just like it's inevitable that some people will see you in a suit and automatically assume there's a sexual component. Only thing you can do is hold your head up high and do you or quit because you can't handle strangers' judgement.
>>
>>9653596
Eh, lots of people do these type of harnesses for their fursuits because real dog harnesses are made of nylon. I'm not sure you can really get around the issue, but honestly, so what, some people might think you have a fetish that you don't. Not a big deal.
>>
>>9653600
This

Also honestly if you have a jet pack it'll probably be fine, people will get the connection and most folks are too polite to scream "is that a fetish"

And if they do just tell them no politely and move on.
>>
>>9653603
I'd have less of a problem with drawing parallels with dog harnesses, because at least they serve a legitimate function with the non-anthropomorphic version of the animal. It's the comparisons to sex dungeon type stuff I have more of a problem with.
>>9653600
>>9653604
At the end of it though, yea you're probably right. For just about everything I don't have a problem with doing anything that skews into fetishy territory as long as I can logically justify it otherwise. With this I'll probably forget about worrying about it and go out of my way to make sure it reads as flight suit. (With a bunch of patches and tubes with gauges and stuff like that.)

Rufen was there!?
Luckyy
>>
>>9652666
Didn’t the one anon a few threads ago who had YouTube videos talking about her SEVERAL years-long wait for an already half paid K-line suit say that the turnover delay was because Rady was depressed over people copying Rufen? Shits not only retarded but selfish.
>>
>>9653915
But didnt another anon said they have a studio with several students and other artisans that make the suits for sale and that's why they look subpar to rufen? Rady only works on rufen afaik.
Just the typical harvest money let people wait forever until they start getting annoying then finish their work.
>>
Does K-Line make multiples of the same suit or only one for each design?
>>
>>9653915
>>9653920
I feel like I was both anon and although I am not the person who made the video about waiting years on a k-line suit (unless she actually showed up then woah I didn’t know) I did mention the Rady being sad about copies thing.

It was an amalgamation of several issues that brought her to no longer participate in commissions, this is what we know:
-people would approach Rady with Rufen copies asking her to make them. Not wanting to make the same thing over and over again (ironic) and the fact people were taking her design, she got really depressed and left FA and most art platforms, she’s still on Twitter.
There is a journal she made about her leaving and reasons why but I don’t know if you can find it; I can’t find screenshots and her page is disabled

-She became busy and in 2016 started school, this didn’t help the backlog

-During the time that K-Line’s backlog got to this point, they announced they were no longer doing commissions. The Rufen clones are said to be the cause. Other cause could be the loss of motivation and depression, which were caused by the clones

-This would soon change to “no international commissions” but I think they closed them all together again soon after

-K-Line opens the “Showcase”, pre designs that people can buy. These can be purchased internationally. This is so that people can have K-Line products, but without the risk of the clones

-She no longer has the time and motivation, so she doesn’t really help with K-Line anymore.
It’s more Eixin’s project now which the understudies working on the suits. You can tell due to the quality, especially the necks. They’re always ill fitted.
I’ve heard she does the eyes but I can’t say that’s credible and I don’t recall where I read this

If you want to see the video anon mentioned it should be called “my experience with K-Line” or something. It’s pretty crazy

I hope this helped

Here’s a question: why do some furries treat the fandom like it’s so special compared to other fandoms? It has costuming, art, drama, weird sexual fetishes, and bad fanfiction like msot other fandoms. So why cartoon animals of all things is turned into some sort of spiritual awakening? It just sounds like someone who’s obsessed with klingons claiming their klingon lifestyle is an object of pride. I’ve only ever seen this with bronies outside furry.

That was back when I was a real big fan of hers also, so I was extra sad. My hobby now is changing the songs on her dance vids. Her dancing is so basic you can put any song on in the background and it’s seamless.

>>9655626
I just now noticed the spreader bar in the background. Nice.

I thought people wanted to get away from this image for fursuiting.

The Asian furry community is a complicated one. Very reserved, but they love their suggestive fursuit pictures. The ones I talked to all say that fursuit sex is super taboo in the JP community, more taboo than the fursuiting itself. But I don't think pinup stuff is a problem as long as the suit isn't used for that reason
>>
>>9655710
This may be an ignorant question but if they're insinuating it with a pinup pic, how's anyone to know if the suit is actually used for that or not? It seems like you would catch hell just for taking pics like that if it is that taboo.
>>
>>9655712
I honestly couldn't tell you there.
JP furs tend to stick to their community unless they're liking the fursuit/artwork of a western fur. So I have a feeling that it's a weird unspoken rule in their community.
A friend of mine over there says they use 2ch for their own anonymous shit talking. He said it makes him upset though. He sent me a link to a thread where I saw that some JPfur quit the community by posting a picture of his suit and badge cut up with scissors and a middle finger on twitter.

I could always ask but I'd have to wait for a response, time zones n' shit
>>
>>9655713
>He sent me a link to a thread where I saw that some JPfur quit the community by posting a picture of his suit and badge cut up with scissors and a middle finger on twitter.
That is sad, always hate seeing people leave a hobby or fandom on those terms.
>>
Here's an interesting question: do suitmakers expect to work their jobs for the rest of their lives? Fursuiting doesn't exactly draw too big a customer base. Things might change and new ways of construction might emerge that become the norm, and makers who don't adapt could be left in the dust.
What I'm asking is...do artists who make a living solely on geek fandom-related activities plan for the far future of their lives?
>>
>>9655723
Yeah, at first I was confused until I realized the badge was completely in half and the suit was a fluffed wreck. I don't know who they were but it was disappointing

Here's a link, it's moonrunes so if you can't read just use a translator lol. There's links to past threads at the top, it'll usually be the second part of the header. It's interesting to see.
>>
>>9655724
i fail to see your point/problem
lots of fursuit makers have a queue lasting of a year. with the fandom continuously growing, there's even more demand as time goes on.

there's makers that have been doing so for around 10 years now. they may not plan on doing it for the rest of their lives, but who cares? it works for them now, and having a specialized acquired skill can open doors for more careers.

This reads like a Japanese Encyclopedia Dramatica, if it were all written by a single person. Really don't know what to make of it, if it's paranoid stalker bullshit or if the popular figures of the kemo community do indeed have a lot of baggage to their names

it has a lot of upvotes because they posted Laki lmao. The artist that they actually commissioned is pic related
>>
>>9655895
This makes me so sad
>”she totally let me copy her suit cause I’m uncreative”
She left the fandom because of people copying her suit (and other horrible stuff) but it’s like seriously why lie? It’s gross. And I thought Reddit was already bad
>>
>>9655989
even if they did get a fursuit based on laki which they definitely did not ask radywolf about, why post an easily sourceable image from 2012 and claim it's your suit lmao. If I was citymutt I'd be pissed that someone who commissioned me was posting another artist's work and claiming it was the suit I made for them. That whole thread is a fucking mess, it's incredibly disrespectful to both rady and citymutt
>>
>>9656007
FZSW made Laki and Loki no Radywolf, so 3x the disrespect?
>>
>>9656013
aw my bad, but it's still them pretending to be the owner of laki. someone in the thread asks what the tail looks like and the OP responds "you can see it between the legs", bitch that ain't your suit
>>

i like the design and appearance of wild-life suits but that doesn't mean i agree with the creator's dog fucking habits either
