Anyone have any new info on this recent change of events? It's like two weeks before the con and they are moving locations?
>>
>>9735345
Once a shitshow, always a shitshow
>>
not surprised in the least to see this
>>
Why the hell do people go to the con? It’s been exposed for so much bullshit and then they do stuff like this.
>>
All those people who booked rooms already are going to be so fucked.
>>
Sweet, now it's more convenient to ghost and they will finally crash and burn.
>>
I would call the new hotel to confirm it is there. I wouldn't put it past him to say it was moved but really be canceled, and in the confusion skip town with whatever money may be left.
>>
>>9735651
considering mike anderson's known past and present, i wouldn't doubt him doing exactly this

It's ONE week before. Top kek.

assumption is that Red Lion wanted the money before the show, and they don't have it from ticket sales yet because they used ticketbud (which doesn't pay out in advance)

As one of the vendors I was looking forward to the Red lion, but this sub 1 week alert of a change to the piss poor Hilton and it's hill climb driveway to the would be vendor area has me thinking about dropping. All i was sent was a "setup is at 4pm Thursday at the Hilton."

>>9736319
We don't like traveling too far, so the more local shows the better. Last year was pretty meh in the Mariot but justified going for the profit margin. Also we didn't get fucked as bad as many others when it was at the double tree and half the vendors were in the hall.

powers took michael anderson to court over the thousands of dollars anderson borrowed from him in order to keep newcon 3 from being shut down. newcon owed the hotel like 15 grand on day 0 and hadnt paid so they were about to get shut down and kicked out. anderson went on a tirade against the hotel, but in the end borrowed money from powers and some others to foot the bill. years later he has never repaid anyone. powers took him to court and won, and collections has been after anderson for the money he owes powers.
>>
>>9736317
You're fucking retarded for continuing to vend at a toilet bowl cesspool of a convention. I bet you vend at AkiCon also. I guess that urge to make a buck is just too powerful for you.
If you're moronic enough to still even consider going this year, you deserve to lose every dollar that you undoubtably will.
>>
>>9736451
Lol omg calm down like I agree with you but damn you’re so salty
>>
Gonna ghost for the lulz, if the con even happens.
>>
I'm loving the people going "oh NOW you're speaking about the con" as if it's bad that more people want to boycott it. Now I'm remembering why most of the Portland cosplay community is obnoxious.
>>
>>9736555
it's only obnoxious BECAUSE of Mike and his manipulation and abuse. Once he's out, it's not that bad.
>>
>>9736442
I know a lot of the sums that Mike owed and didn’t pay, so let’s keep stories straight. This lawsuit didn’t exceed $3k. It was bad, but not $15k bad.

Now, there’s the other fees that add up, like not paying Rikishi or equipment rentals and such, but we gotta be the ones to make sure his criminal record is accurate since for some reason he hasn’t been arrested for tax fraud yet.
>>
>>9736620
Surprising that after all of this he hasn't been charged with tax or Isurance fraud, after that illegitimate claim he filed and left his ex-roommates to deal with
>>
>>9736620
the 15k, i think it was 16k though, was how much newcon owed owed the hotel, not how much he borrowed from powers. yes he only borrowed around 3k from powers. he apparently borrowed from other people also but i'm not sure how much. i do know that a staff member had to take 7k in cash to get a cashiers check to give to the hotel so they wouldnt be immediately shut down.
>>
>>9736451

Angry artist here. I'm fucking pissed. Here is the email we got this morning regarding the convention. I swear to fuck I'll see this cunt in court if I don't see my booth fee back. Fucking assholes.

"Artists,

It is with a heavy heart I regret to inform you all that Newcon PDX 6 is officially cancelled. As are all other events run by this ownership team.

I know many of you have made arrangements to be at the event and I am sorry it has come to this. Our back-up venue has rescinded their offer today and that leaves us with no other options.

We are in the process of getting our deposits back from various companies, as well as selling off our entire assets. This way we will be able to fully refund each and everyone of you. We will update you with exact timelines when we have them but our intent is to get this done as expediently as possible.

Please note that this is not to any fault of our staff or management and that I take full burden of this cancellation.

Sincerely,

Michael J. Anderson"

I'm not burger, how common is this stuff in there? Seems like this was a large scale event
>>
The screencap mentions I got "paid late in year 3," which is accurate, but it doesn't say HOW late. I think they actually paid me out of their earnings from year 4, and only because a friend of mine was on the board at the time and made a huge stink with Mike on my behalf. I had actually chalked it up to a total loss and moved on, but then I got a message from my friend, we went and had some burgers, and they finally paypal'd me A YEAR LATER.

Joke's on them, though ... I used that hour-long waltz set(?) they asked me to play as a way to fill gaps for some of the music at the HPA Yule Ball earlier this month, and that Yule Ball might be one of my favorite gigs of all time! :-) ~ Switch
>>
>>9737622
To be honest, I'm not privy to how much actually went down internally, but I've never run into this problem with any of the other Portland events that I've worked.

I also host panels, have a podcast, and organize live music events, so I've done some bigger and smaller events around PDX and I've worked a couple of cons that aren't around anymore. The thing is they were still handled much more professionally IMO, and they took care of the people involved right up until they decided not to continue the events.

Newcon is (was?) a well-marketed event, so it had lots of interest from both vendors and guests and had grown quickly to a good size, but the same year I worked with them I had some other vendor friends that got bumped because they didn't clear the floor plan with the fire marshal ahead of time. One specific local vendor friend of mine had to wait a few months to get reimbursed -- which is still not OK -- but at least she got paid back.
>>
Oh, and side note about my vendor friend ... she got paid back a few months later, and I didn't, so -- even though I was glad for her -- for a while there I was pretty sore about it.
>>
>>9737717
Cool. I've seen lack of professionalism being a recurring point. By that, do you mean they're not using contracts? Or that everything worked through word of month?

How many attendees does an event of this size have? I'd imagine a lot of cosplayers would be pissed. Panels people too. I suppose you're losing money with this, right? But is it a big deal? Did you not attend any other event to go to this one?

Good luck.
>>
>>9737733
I don't know what paperwork ever changed hands with the vendors, but I agreed to book the gig on word of mouth because it was relatively small. Maybe that was my bad, but my total commitment amounted to a few hours on a Saturday night, so as long as I got paid I wasn't gonna look too close at the paperwork ... but then I didn't get paid.

As for size, I think the event had grown a bit since then, but when I played in January 2015, there was a few hundred (I'd guess about 300-350) at the dance, and I'd imagine plenty more attending the con that didn't go to the Saturday night party, so not a HUGE event, but big enough that a lot of people are pretty upset by this.

I wanna add to the drama about new con with two incidents that don't often get reported.

Newcon and the Swimsuit Competition

There was a popular Swimsuit Competition from CA ran by Hentai Cupcake. Newcon invited Hentai over to do the panel which he accepted. A year later, Hentai cupcake gets the boot and Newcon does their own Swimsuit Competition but copied the same panel strcture and formula as Hentai Cupcake.

New Con Pro Wrestling

New Con approahed the creators of Cosplay Wrestling to do a show at Newcon. When the creators didn't accept Newcon did it's own show called New Cosplay Wrestling

http://www.newconpdx.com/new-cosplay-wrestling/

This in it of itself is not too shady. However compare the rulset in the CWF's application in the link below to the ruleset in Newcon's application pictured here

http://www.mediafire.com/file/d7dmo78u0mb4541/Cosplay+Wrestling+Federation+Application+%2812-8-2015%29.rtf
>>
>>9737843
Not only did newcon take the application word for word, but they copied the question order and capitalization of certain words. It's probably the most blatant case of ruleset theft to date.

There's more to the Hentai Cupcake bit though. He was a friends of Mike's BEFORE Newcon started and wsd one of the first people to really help the con get going. After Mike "borrowed" an exorbitant amount of money from him and didn't pay it back is when HC refused to have anything to do with the con. So Mike copied his event for the convention since it was one of the few events to ever completely fill a panel room.
HC has since taken Mike to court and Mike has been ordered to pay him back, but let's see if that will ever happen.
>>
Ok but why did switch roll in for an ama like his story was important and not common af lmao

>>
Apparently they didnt officially email/notify any attendees that the con was cancelled until an hour ago. And only because someone mentioned it. Part of me wanted to see what kind of fresh hell broke out when 100s of people showed up to a cancelled convention.
>>
This fucking piece of shit Mike just called the Beaverton police on one of the artists (a friend of mine) because of their emails inquiring about refunds. Dude, every convention I've been to Switch has been really cool and down-to-earth.
>>
Is boyfriend dad itt?
>>
>>9738061
Mike, don’t you have bags to pack for your Canada trip?
>>
I am amazed he called the police on an artist wanting their money back. He's backed into a corner and has no other way to react, I guess. Gotta pretend to be the victim.
>>
>>9737994
They didn’t sell that many badges. Only around 300
>>
>>9738207
Not the first time he called the police on someone he owed money to
>>
Hey, look on the brite side! This just gives Mike's bitch ass "native" girlfirend more poor me ammo to manipulate the few friends she has left. So that is kinda cool.
>>
>>9737896
HC did take Mike to court.
HC won. Mike legally owes HC something like $6k.
Mike still hasn't paid. His wages will (or might already) be garnished if he doesn't pay.
>>
Both Jordan and Mike LOVE to play the "poor me" card. Just glad most people are seeing through their bullshit now.
>>
Hi angry artist here again. I am the one who spoke to the cops. They seemed not amused by these dudes acting like idiots. I explained to them the entire situation and they suggested taking his dumb ass to claims court. Hahaha. I would, just to prove a point. I've done it before. (and won, no shit) These fucking manchildren are going to get what they deserve for fucking with our community.

I also received a tip via twitter to an attorney who has already dealt with these fools. We'll take 'em down!

I'm going to wait 1 week for my refund. If it is not in my account, I'm reporting them for fraud, taking them to claims court and I've already started down the path of contacting all of the event organizers I know to let them know what is going on. No way these guys will ever be able to run anything here ever again. Bye bitches! (the con guys, not you, you're probably cool) ;)
>>
>>9738228

I imagine even if they are he’ll work under the table to avoid ever having to pay.
>>
>>9738228
I heard he uses Newcon’s account as his personal account because he owes so many people money
>>
Yeah he uses multiple paypal accounts, all under newcon/animepdx. Plus there was that boogus Kickstarter he used for Animepdx probably to raise money for his own debts.
>>
I think mike is trying to leave the country so heads up to anyone looking for refunds.
>>
Haven't heard anything about refunds being issued yet. I bet he's gonna wait until the funds are released instead.
>>
Yeah, he uses the Newcon paypal as his personal paypal to avoid having to have an actual bank account. Seen him do it. He also took out a paypal business loan to pay for personal stuff. That one he told me himself.

>>
Has anyone gotten a refund yet for anything, including badges?
>>
>>9739835

No badge refunds here, and no message from Ticketbud to indicate that the process has been started.

Mike's 'We have to click each name individually and send out refunds one by one' story feels fake, too. Why would there NOT be an 'event cancelled/refund all' button on Ticketbud?
>>
>>9739835
fwiw I just sent a message to Ticketbud directly to see what's going on/if it's true that an event owner would have to refund each ticket one by one like Michael claimed on Facebook.
>>
>>9740141
He'll keep spinning the story until to give himself time. He's either planning to keep the money, or they don't have it to even give refunds.
>>
>>9740153

According to Ticketbud's policies they don't release the funds to him until after the event. So he could be stalling until that happens, yeah.

>>9740146

Aaaaand this is how we stop the above from happening, unless I'm mistaken on Ticketbud's authority to halt the entire thing.
>>
A quick search of ticketbud's refund policy will tell you exactly why emailing them don't work.

"If you purchased a ticket for an event on Ticketbud and are looking for a refund, please contact the event organizer. Ticketbud operates solely as an event registration and ticketing platform for organizers and we do not control, collect, or distribute the proceeds from ticket sales, which are processed through a third-party payment processor and go directly to the event organizer's merchant account. Therefore, Ticketbud does not have access or authorization to issue any refunds or changes on behalf of the organizer."

Contact your bank and make a fraudulent charge claim.
>>
>>9737994
they still are
they'll show up to the red lion and make it very awkward for the employees there
>>
>>9740166
Kek

Leave it to fucking Mike to pick a business that has an F rating with the BBB. Con artists work best with other con artists.

You assholes are never getting your refunds. If you were smart you'd go through your bank. If you were smarter you would have listened last time everyone called this fucker out and not have given him your money at all.

Good luck getting your money back from TB. They have terrible reviews all over the internet for not refunding from canceled events.

>>9740166
Is right.
>>
Ok. So the third party payment transfer company that goes between TB and Mike is WePay.

Mike has to literally go in and do this himself one by one. That part is true. If he doesn't completely neglect refunds altogether here's what you should look out for.

1. WP takes a 10% cut out of the host's share. So if you paid $100 you get that back and mike takes a $10 ding. This is a problem because:

2. We know Mike to always be in the red with this shit. He's not going to be able to take a 10% fee for every customer. He'll definitely be looking to weasel out. He's not smart enough to guess people will research this. Which brings us to:

3. WePay allows vendors to make partial refunds. Bet your ass he will do this to cover that 10% ding. Aka he will STILL take your money. But there's good news:

4. Ever dealt with Chase bank? It's a big fancy loan shark company and they will COME FOR YOU if you owe them. WePay is owned by Chase. Put in a bank claim against WePay and they will almost always concede. And they will go after Mike for what they're owed and they will win.

That's your solution, kids. Have fun.
>>
>>9740264
If Mike isn't working, is living off of stolen money, has no bank account, etc. then how is WP going to get money from him?
>>
Why did they change the FB page wallpaper to Anime PDX if they're selling that too? Why the fuck are these idiots so incompetent? I'm calling my bank today. Fuck these assholes
>>
Newcon got acquired by Green Mustard Entertainment.
>>

>>
>>9740805
This seems likely. According to the latest Facebook post, the new owners weren't even made aware the Kickstarter lifetime members were a thing, something Michael had previously promised he would make sure any future owners were told about.
>>
>>9740797
I have no doubt Michael is taking the money from selling the con and moving away asap. The new owners are so screwed.
>>
Does anyone have a full screen cap of the expired Newcon business license from last year?
>>
>>9740893
Newcon's license was expired, but he had a new active one under Events PDX Inc.
>>
>>9740898
The new license was generated in 11/2017. They had an expired license at the time of the Newcon that took place in 01/2017. That's the cap I'd like to see.
>>
I emailed that mustard company regarding refunds and they had the audacity to try to tell me how to speak. Fuck those guys too. I sent another email to pdx whatever's and then proceeded to call my bank because I've had enough of their shit.

I called my bank and opened a case. They said it should be a relatively smooth transaction and I should see my funds in a couple of days. They will be investigating.

Maybe if more people also open up cases through their banks, etc, we can get this guy in trouble. I'm sick of their shit. It's bad for the whole community. >:(

The response to the first email I sent -

While we appreciate your frustration, swearing in all caps in a professional request email is unappreciated.

As mentioned in the press release (facebook url) we are not responsible for refunds. You need to contact the previous owners: Events PDX, LLC. Their email address is EventsPDXLLC@Gmail.com and we’ve cc’d them on this reply.

Tom Croom. Oh lawd here we go.
You guys just traded out one sex freak for another. Before this guy bilked people out of enough money to run conventions and events, he was a photographer. He has this weird fetish where he gets off on girls restrained by sticky substances. He would have underage girls pretend that they were stuck in "goo" or whatever weird shit and take pictures. He is also Troy Doerner AKA Boner robin from Cosplay Deviants, litte bitch boy and spys on people in groups he managed to weasel in on for Troy. You think Mike was bad with sexual harassment? Wait till you meet Tom. He will try to monetize it and profit off it. What further proof do you need that Mike and Tom are in this together considering Jordan is associated with the new company.

Good luck guys, you will need it.

They deleted one of the comments talking about Jordan.
>>
I'm just going to throw this out there since I've been watching this all go down. Provided that Tom is taking this over and has someone on the bank account/PayPal login or whatever, there should be someone watching where the money is going. There should be someone watching the money flow other than Jordan herself so that way if there's any loss, Jordan's ass can be handed to her. As much as I want to say that it all seems pretty fucking skeevy, the incoming people still need access to any documentation, records, or finances. Most of that is probably in Jordan or Mike's name and will need to be changed over. It takes time. I had to do this at the current event I now run and literally it took months to rectify a problem. I still needed the twat we were removing to assist with name changes as they wouldn't accept me since I wasn't registered on the accounts that needed to be changed. It was literal hell.
>>
Jordan needs to be removed. They say Jordan’s involvement for 2018 is “set.” Last I checked, agreements can be broken. NOTHING about the mismanagement of this convention has changed if Jordan is still on the team; it doesn’t matter who is “in charge” of the financials now. It means enabling a criminal and that’s not cool?

Does this read to anyone else like "Hi, we are actually friends with Mike and Jordan and are here to work with them, not for you! And here is our completely illogical reasoning for keeping Jordan (and thereby Mike) on board!"
>>
>>9741906
No, it read like "we're experienced with this industry, but not the local scene, so we'll need a former, high-end staff member to aid in a smooth transition."

This is actually pretty normal for a transition like this. Chances are, Jordan will be gone either before, during, or shortly after the first year of Fandom PDX.
>>
>>9741914
Just because this guy is a smooth talker where Mike wasn't doesn't mean he's professional.
>>
>>9741914
And Jordan isn’t a “valuable” staff member. She was only added to the staff in 2016, and only made an executive because she was dating Mike. She had no prior experience with Newcon or ANY cons. Unlike the numerous execs who stepped down for ethical reasons and were actually integral to the parts of the con that matter for “consulting.” They could have contacted any of them. They know Jordan is tightly connected to Mike. This voids their assertion that Mike has distanced himself from the con.
>>

>>
>>9741920

>>
>>9741914

>>
>>9741906
I read that as "Mike and Jordan are our friends and still need an income source, so we kept jordan on for the next year because she is perceived as a bit less shady, so now they will have a year to finally get actual jobs because we didnt want them to be flipping burgers so soon."
>>
Reading some of the FandomPDX facebook posts it sounds like Mike is still behind the keyboard...
>>
I'm really amazed at Anime Wasabi for claiming Jordan was so important to running the con. I know a ton of people who essentially created major aspects of programming at Newcon who weren't contacted about helping, but the treasurer who assisted in stealing money and "accidentally" used up what was owed to Wunderwelt. Like even if she wasn't directly stealing and scamming, she's completely incompetent and has no experience successfully running a con.
>>
There are actual idiots on that FB page defending this new owner’s decision to keep on Jordan. Like honestly wtf? Can this con please just die already? No? Some fucking morons are still willing to give Jordan (and by extention her fucking live in bf) money?? JFC!

Yea ok cool, seems legit, not sure how they’ll swing the disability discount since that seems kind of legally fishy to me but I’m not a lawyer so whatever

>people with disabilities get special badges that single them out as having a disability

hooooooooo boy. they’re gonna need a lot of lube for the legal buttfucking that’s gonna give them
>>
>>9747588
Not necessarily. Other cons have medical badges that allow people to avoid lines etc. Usually it's a sticker or something that lets staff know.
>>
>>9747608

Yeah but the sticker is optional, and usually goes on the back of the badge. It reads to me like these guys are talking about giving a disability discount, and then everybody who gets a badge through the disability discount has a distinctly different badge. With the sticker on the back of the badge method, you don’t have to proclaim to the world that you have a disability unless you flip it around to show a staffer.
>>
I love how their shitty new con is avoiding questions about who runs the show on facebook.
>>
The con is NOT associated with Mike or his partner, I don't know who is running this convention but every convention starts somewhere Right? But I agree with a discount or line jump for people who have disabilities, I myself am wheelchair bound and am excited for it. I know a few people that are starting that con, and they do not like Mike and Jordan. You idiots are aware LEGALLY this new con cannot keep Michael, Jordan or anyone associated from attending correct? The con is a public place, if they pay for their badges they legally cannot be turned away without a court order or hotel security preventing them.

If you were to stop making a bunch of claims with no proof to an anon board, you would see up thread that people are also talking about PDX here.
It's sus that a new con pops up IMMEDIATELY after the fall of Newcon, to operate in the same time slot when the old crowd are still clearly in influence in the community.

Yes I did delete my comment, because I realized who that was and the comment was irrelevant

You are a PR nightmare.

Why talk about yourself like that? Did you finish your homework? If you go to bed now, you may be able to get enough sleep before school
>>

>>
Damn, shit talking yourself? Therapy is good for that.
>>
I keep talking to myself because it's the most stimulation I've had all week!
>>
Are we resorting to that now? You that butthurt? Need some butthurt cream?
>>
What was I talking about before butt cream?

This thread suddenly looks like someone with mpd is having a conversation with themselves. You are just ruining all the credibility this new convention could possibly have fampai.
>>
Can this just die already?obviously someone is trying to troll this Julia character and it isn't working or maybe it is, but newcon or not. Oregonians should be accepting of this and I understand Newcon fucked us and ruined our trust but what harm would it do to giving this other convention a chance? And give as much feedback as possible so the same thing doesn't occur!

Ashley?
>>
>>9747864

No sorry, my name is actually Julia

Hotels and convention centers are private property. They can refuse service or entry to anyone legally.
>>
That is not true, the Hotel itself can deny access yes! But not the convention without a legal standing.

Michael and Jordan could sue, unfortunately it is not illegal to be an asshole, I don't want them in attendance as much as the next person but if they want to pay money to attend. Cool, let them.
>>
Honestly who cares if Bonenkaicon was made to spite Newcon? Anything that draws business away from Fandom PDX's events is good in my book. The reason Newcon (and Akicon for that matter) survived so long is because weebs just want a place to hang with their friends in costume and don't care how toxic it is. Might as well give them a different place to weeb it up.
>>
You all are acting like children. Bonenwhosies is still very suspect. I won't even vend new first year cons because of the shit I've seen in the pdx scene. Have fun losing your money if you choose to support a convention who's being shady af. I'm seriously 90% certain they are a scam.
>>
Jesus christ, this thread started as an informed collection of receipts for Newcon, Michael and Jordan and devolved into a bunch of pissbabies bitching back and forth about shit that is only half related to the original topic.

Yeah, I get it, its suspicious that a convention appeared right after the ending of Newcon and people are rightfully going to be suspicious of it, regardless of who is running it just due to the history of Newcon.

To my knowledge, Bonen is working with the community to ensure that the issues that came up with Newcon (and even some issues that were experienced at other local cons) don't repeat themselves and its a safe place for the community to gather.

If you have questions, they have a page? I don't understand why no one is asking them any questions? Thats how you find things out?

Weebs gonna weeb

yes. they. can. as a private company you can refuse the right to provide a service to anyone so long as it isn't a violation of their civil rights.
try again.
>>
>>9748707
No.they.cant

That's already been established by multiple people publicly as well as on this thread. Without a court order, or a restraining order stating Michael and Jordan CANNOT be in attendance, the con HAS to let them attend.

Michael and Jordan can sue and would win that case more than likely.

Move on. Next subject.

Also I responded to the wrong thread.

From public spaces within the convention only. They can ban then from purchasing a badge and entering badge only areas, just like any other convention can and already do.
>>
Conventions are a private business and reserve the right to refuse service to whomever they want. With that being said, did boner con just remove their FB page?
>>
>>9748873

Its still active and showing up for me.
>>

It's still active, may need to refresh your browser
>>
Kids, please look up the difference between public, private and privately owned public space before giving out your wrong interpretations of the law

He openly states-
I totally was friends with micheal and Jordan
I totally saved this con, all me, nothing is wrong now
I totally am qualified to run and take over a corrupt con, it's not like I have plenty of ruined cons and a history of glorifying sexual predators and openly sexualizing underage girls.

Florida did NOT over exaggerate his huge ego
