Who sells ringlet wigs? Dreamholic's looks like shit and I think bodyline pulled theirs some ago. I asked that semi-popular old school lolita yetaxa or whatever because hers is real nice but she ignored it of course.

Can you do a non comic cosplay to a comic con? I was going to do a Miku cosplay since I have everything for it and wouldn't mind wearing it again, but is there some written code you never do anything but comic stuff? Never been to a comic con before
>>
>>9782635
No. If you show up in a noncomic cosplay you will immediately be escorted out. Everyone will stop what they are doing to look at you while you are escorted out and you will be banned from all future comic conventions.
>>
>>9782638
I wholeheartedly accept your sarcasm as a wake up call to remind myself that at the end of the day I'm just some random running around in a wig, so just don't give a fuck.
>>
>>9782635
based on how people act on here, yeah, people are gonna be pissed at you if you wear an anime cosplay to a comic con
but don't you dare say anything about overwatch, video game, or deadpool cosplayers or you're an "autist"
>>
>>9782635
the absolute WORST case scenario is someone sneaks a creepshot and makes fun of you on cgl afterwards. no one on this board has the balls to actually be a raging asshole to peoples' faces, and this board is the only place ive ever seen people give a shit about cross-cosplaying

There's no AX thread up yet so figured I'd ask here.

I have a wedding to attend July 7th, which means I'd only be able to go July 5th and 6th and head home the night of the 6th or morning of the 7th. Would that be worth it? The schedule isn't posted yet but I don't really care about the panels or concert. I'm mainly going just to meet up with friends that live out of state and to finally attend a big convention.
>>
>>9782800
*Update: wedding is in the evening so I'll be able to leave early morning on the 7th.
>>
>>9782800

I have a dumb question regarding dressing for your body type. Pic related pops up every now and then on cgl and is also on lolitaguidebook.
As someone with a V-shaped body I should avoid things that draw attention to my upper half and anything that cuts my frame in a diagonal line, which means not going to wild with frilly blouses. What exactly do they mean by decoration on the bust/blouse then? Something like necklaces and idk what else ?
>>
>>9782898
No ruffles on the bust, no bows there. Also anon, these charts are only suggestions, no body is the same, you ought to try if you look good in something before you completly scratch it from your wardrobe. Myself, I'm a hourglass, but I look good in highcollars and I won't stop wearing them just because.
>>
>>9782905
I'm sorry, I forgot to add the table suggests that having decoration on bust/blouse will actually help you there, judging by the separation between + and - .

But you're probably right. in the end it all comes down to trying things for yourself.
>>
How do I fill the gaps in my sword between the tube and the foam ?
I need setting that is quite liquid so it will go everywhere but stays strong when dry to make the pipe stay still.
>>
>>9780313
I do have a second pair with the same buckles so I might actually follow your advice on swapping them, thanks!

stupidly vague question: how do I get into foamcrafting/general propmaking? I'm passable at dividing things into segments and suggesting how to tackle sewing projects, but for some reason it doesn't seem to transfer into props. on top of that I don't know how to pick materials, make samples/trials or anything else along those lines. is there a general catch-all introductory guide, or is it just throwing shit at a wall and seeing what sticks?
>>
>>9782721
Oh wow, I'm an idiot. I wasn't aware she had multiple accounts. Checked the FAQ for her fashion one and sure enough it was there. Thanks, anon!
>>
How exactly do trades work? I'd like to trade a jsk with someone overseas, however I'm concerned about being scammed. Is there a safe way to trade, or is it just a case of how trustworthy the counterpart is?
>>
>>9783039
Usually I go for trustworthiness but if you don't know the person, have them buy the dress from you, and you buy the dress from them through PayPal. If one of you doesn't send the buyer can file a claim
>>
>>9782963
Wood filler may work. I've heard great things about poly filla as well.
>>
>>9782635
Yes. Last year I dressed up as Yoshikage Kira at comic con and got recognized a bunch. Plus a lot of artists have prints and such for western and eastern toons
>>
>>9783046
That makes sense. Thank you, anon!
>>
>>9782992
>is there a general catch-all introductory guide
I know this might be the obvious answer but I'd say try Bill Doran/Punished Props' stuff; it's served me really well over the years. There's a pretty wide variety of free guides/tutorials and paid (but ridiculously comprehensive) ones on his site, plus links to other similar creators. Kamui's is pretty okay too, but honestly I dont think I've used it more than once since buying, unlike the PP/Foamsmith ones

What kind of wig would one recommend for someone who has a decently and unfortunate oblong face? It seems like long wigs don't look good on me, short ones make my face look fat...etc. If anyone can give me some recommendations I'd appreciate it
>>

Your best bets are Mercari, Fril and Y! Japan. They do come up on websites like Wunderwelt and Closet Child, but you have to be really fast.

What do you guys do for fangs?

All the premade ones for Halloween look too small, custom made are over a hundred dollars and the only tutorials I’ve seen involve fixodent and fake nails and those tutorials are made by the kind of kids who think stacking contact lenses is a good idea

Is there anyone here who can attest to the fixodent and fake nail thing or is there better ways

Does anyone know of any other brand (asian or western) that currently has good tan/brown oxford heels? Or ones you own that you really like and would recommend? Bought these Patricia Nash ones yesterday since they had some deals going on for $130, and while that price is eh I'm not certain what else is out there. I feel like I remember someone saying they had bought some from some handmade leather company, but I cannot recall more off the top of my head.

What's the best iron-on transfer paper to use for dark shirts? I wanna make a custom shirt for something silly but last time I used transfer paper, it transferred the "blank" parts of the cutout as well and had a shiny border.

Oh I think I have another dumb question that someone here can help with. Well since a lot of seagulls ended up becoming pretty famous outside the 4chan bubble, I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips to help my gf become famous as well. She has the looks down, but she doesn't know how / never made a cosplay before. Is it alright for me to buy a custom made cosplay from someone and have my gf play it off like she made it?
>>
This is a particularly dumb question, but what sort of stuff do they sell at anime conventions? From what I gather my local con is mid-sized. I’d like to attend and maybe buy some stuff: art, a manga or two, a nice figurine, etc. Am I likely to find legit stuff for sale there or will it all be shitty fursona art and plastic keychains?
>>
>>9784120
I would just buy art if you really wanna buy something. Maybe some mangos but figs are really overpriced and you should just get it online.
>>
Interested in cosplaying; never done it before. Is it better to get in the habit of trying to build a cosplay from scratch or is it okay to start out by buying one instead?
>>
>>9784084
>>
>>9784129
It's personal, really. Either work on making stuff yourself or buy your cosplays; the former will take practice, trial and error and effort until your costumes look good, while the latter is fine as long as you don't parade it as your own work.
>>
>>9784129
Totally okay to start off buying cosplays. No reason you can't start learning to build while you're cosplaying in ready made. It'll give you a chance to try out different characters and seeing what you like/what suits you, without having invested lots of money/time in something you might not actually enjoy.
>>
Hiya /cgl/ I don’t often post here but I was wondering if you guys make masks? I’m trying to recreate pic related but so far any process I’ve seen has been a bit beyond my skill range. Unfortunately I can’t find anywhere that actually sells these.

A women's ascot is similar (also called vintage neck scarf online I guess), but it also made me see the term "skinny scarf" which is apparently a thing I didn't know about and what I bet Fanny used to get that look since the ascots are too short for such a long bow. How exactly does purchasing from Y! Japan auctions using a shopping service work? I realize that the services allow you to bid, but what do they do if you win the auction?
A lot of sellers list that they want the winner to contact them within 24 hours. Do shopping services handle that or would I be responsible for contacting the seller on my own?
>>
>>9784819
It's basically like buying from eBay except that you'll pay two shipping fees: one to get it to the shopping services warehouse and one to get it to wherever you live internationally. Buyee (and presumably most other shopping services) will take care of contacting the seller.

>>
So my absolute favorite pair of print tights are starting to wear out in the crotch area, I just noticed today when going to handwash them. Is there anything I can do to minimize wear there/repairs for this area since no one should be seeing it anyways? I normally wear shorts or bloomers on top to keep the tights from riding down, there is no thigh wear, and the feet portions are very well kept as I wear those no show socks for flats on the - I never suspected the crotch area would be the place to really be worried about. The print is fading out to white and there's one spot near the seam where it's getting very thin.
>>
>>9784830
Nayrt but I also have a question about Y! Auctions. So I understand that I pay for the item + shipping to the SS + shipping again to get to me, but how do I know how much shipping to the SS will be? Is it on the items auction page and I’m just missing it, or is it somewhere else?
>>
>>9785727
It's kind of on the auction page, but unless you know where your SS is located and depending on what kind of shipping you choose with your SS it can vary. Underneath the item description there are two sections - the one on the right is about shipping. It should say where it's from, what kind of shipping methods they provide, sometimes a flat fee.

Honestly I always just expect shipping to be anywhere from ¥300 to ¥1000 depending on how heavy the item is and how far apart the shipper / my SS are. Unless you're ordering really tiny stuff, I often got dirt cheap domestic shipping when I was buying individual trading cards.

I bought one of those printed shirts. How should I wash it before I wear it for the first time so that I don't get black dye on my light bags while protecting the design?
>>
>>9785833
Black dye usually doesn't run much, especially on a shirt, but wash it in cold water with other darks if you can. Turn it inside-out to protect the print.
>>
>>9785833
Seconding cold water + turning inside out + with like colors. Vinegar also helps with "sealing" the dye in clothes that run. I usually handwash them with a cap of vinegar in a bucket of cold water and let it soak for a little bit, so I'm not sure how or where to put the vinegar in a machine.

i've been into lolita since i was like 11, but now i finally have expendable income to start my wardrobe. do i start with buying basics like pettis and blouses or do i just go headfirst into buying a full coord?
>>
>>9788978
Figure out what style and colors you want to wear and then go for the petticoat and foundation pieces - i.e. a cupcake/bell petticoat will suit sweet or gothic, A-line suits most classic pieces and some gothic pieces as well; blouses come in all kinds of cuts, details, and colors, and even though the basic peter pan collar off white blouse will match most styles, it's better to decide what you like before you buy the first blouse you find.
Decide on the basics and build your first coord from there. If you pick versatile pieces it'll be easier for you to build a functional wardrobe, which will make it easier to coord the same pieces in new ways and also save you money in the long run.

Want are the best hangers for lolita dresses and tops?
My crappy plastic hanger made a little hole in my parka :(
>>

Hey another Atlanta anon! It's probably on the seller's side, absolutely contact them as soon as you can. They probably wrote your address or zip code wrong.

The rounded wooden hangers are good but can be a bit slippery, cloth padded hangers are great for knits, flocked velvet is good to not have stuff slip off.

What are some good sellers for daily wear wigs?

I have really bad trichotillomania that I've dealt with for years on years and it's at the point where my hair's so patchy, I would just rather wear a wig while I try to pull myself together long enough for my real hair to grow out.

Any recs?

My question is: is it okay to dress like a girl if you are a male? I have this friend who really wants to dress up but I'm just not sure I should.
>>
>>9789008
if we both were to enter the worst cosplay of the entire known universe at an anime convention I would win because I would cosplay as your mom idiot.

>>9789123
if we both were to enter a spelling bee at a spelling bee convention I would win because your mom is one of the judges and she likes me more than you so she gave me the questions ahead of time. I studied all of the words and when it was time for the competition your mom shouted my name and cheered for me and it made you sad so you choked and I won by default dumbass.
>>
>>9789437
Depends on what's the reason behind dressing as a girl.
If it's purely a fetish, don't go out with it, keep it in your bedroom.
Really love lolita, but are a guy? Then being brolita is an option. Just please shave these manlegs and manarms, wear long sleeves and tights/otks. Yes, hair can still poke through them. And for god's sake, shave and apply make up.
Being trans? Then you don't want to be seen as a guy for sure. It's normal for girls to wear dresses. Just learn how to dress, use make-up, and put a lot of effort into it.

I don't think this is something we can really predict, especially since this rerelease was in-the-last-few-weeks recent. You can wait until the next one or look for this piece secondhand, it's fairly easy to find.
>>
>>9789567
Of course, there are so many you can easily find them whether you prefer tutorials with pictures or videos.
Personally I like this one by Meta: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Pz2A70Dfrc Naturally, it's especially useful for Meta's ridiculously long waist ties, but you can find many others on youtube if you search "how to tie a lolita bow", "lolita waist tie tutorial" or something similar.

Unrelated to >>9789529 but this made me think - I recently won one of Baby's elastic strap JSKs from auctions, one of the designs they've rereleased recently, but only now noticed that the seller said they've bought it about 10 years ago. >>
>>9790393
Completely up to you and your budget of time and money
>>
>>9790393
etsy is generally gonna get you higher quality than ebay but also cost you a pretty penny

there's always the midpoint between buying a full cosplay and making a full cosplay, which is buying normie/generic jfash clothing pieces that sort of resemble the thing and then frankensteining them into an accurate cosplay
>>
>>9790393
Depends on how complex it is. If its really simple then give a try if its complex then you might waste more money of supplies than a finished costume. Try Amazon or Ali express instead because you can see customer review pics more easily and usually cheaper than Etsy

I suppose recommendations for neck decorations in general.

I have a couple sailor neckline dresses and round lower collared dresses like the pic related. With sailor dresses, I usually wear a hat with a ribbon tied under my chin, but with the more wide collars, I feel as though my neck is a little too bare. Not sure what kind of necklaces I should be looking at. Figured chokers would fit the bill, but I don't know how well it'll work? Would a simple ribbon choker in main/accent colours? Or should it at least attempt to look frilly? Sorry I'm as dumb as a bag of rocks.
>>
>>9792604
Personally I think that chokers above big collars like this look a bit silly, but I'd say the level of detail of the choker you pick should be balanced with what you're wearing.
I.e. if your OP/blouse is very frilly, pick a more simple choker. Statement chokers look better worn with "cleaner" main pieces imo, unless you're going for an OTT look - And even then it's better to simply try it on with the coord you have in mind and consider what it looks like, so you don't end up with a mess.
For the OP you posted, I'd go with a ribbon choker in a matching/contrasting color or a delicate pearl choker, possibly with a cute centerpiece that's not too overwhelming.

Really dumb question but what is Sakizou? I've been seeing these beautiful designs around everywhere for a while and I'm still not sure if they're from something specific like a manga/fashion brand or if it's just a really good artist whose work people have taken to cosplaying?
>>

>>9793120

>>
>>9793134
Thanks I guess? Obviously I searched for myself first and found a deviantart with a small selection of their stuff (but to be fair this isn't the first time I'd seen deviantart accounts just blatantly repost official art from things anyways). Half the other results are either japanese website links that don't translate properly or artbook sales which made me think maybe the artist in question had a series or brand or magazine or something, especially since I've seen what seems to be a similar art style if not the same artist on certain lolita publications in the past? I figured that if so many people were cosplaying these designs they had to be more than just random art but I guess >>9793138 has a point.

Where do I buy oldschool gothic pieces?
I really love Moitie, but I rarely see Moitie pieces pop up on secondhand sites. Other gothic brands are fine as well.
Mostly when I look up lolita clothing on places like fril/mercari, it's just AP, Baby, and Meta, which aren't very gothic at all save from a few pieces. If I search moitie, a few things do pop up, but not much.
Is there some better search to do for gothic pieces?

I see gulls talking about Japonica and Tenshi, but has anyone used Buyee? I’m new to buying from Yahoo Japan Auctions, and I’ve found something I really want, the listing has two days left. Buyee seems pretty straight forward, but I’m not sure if I’m just being a newfag and Buyee could be bad??
>>
>>9793562
Iirc buyee is more expensive, but fine. It's run by the same company as tenso (well known forwarding service).
>>
>>9793562
Iirc their fees are irrationally high and not worth it. If you're going for auctions I suggest you try ZenMarket: They only charge ¥300 per item, they give you ¥300 when you start your account so basically the first item has no commission fees, and you can control the bids yourself. If the seller you're buying from doesn't accept shopping services, then you can try Japonica or Tenshi Shop.
>>
>>9793450
Moitie is slow as fuck dude. Very little is added to the market in a week or even a month. The same stuff will stay up for months and when new stuff comes up it either goes at the speed of light or joins the regular lineup for months. Mana makes you work, since you have to have the timing and the money on hand. Personally I just have a MmM war coffin to pull from.

If you're looking for a specific old dress that isn't a print I wish you the best. People have gone mad searching for that one elusive Moitie dress.
>>
>>9793562
Buyee's only really worth it if you're using it to bid on a yahoo auction at the last minute, imo. Two days should be enough time for another SS, but if you need to, using buyee isn't going to kill you.

I have a question about body shape. My body has always been very straight. Even though I am thin, my waist lacks definition, and my hips/ass never seemed to get any bigger. I have always considered myself a "rule" or "banana" type.
However, many guides I look at say that if you have about 10 inches of difference between your bust/hip and waist measurements, you are an hourglass.
I am currently 32-23-33, but I really just look like a box. I look thin from the side but wide from the front. So I am still a "ruler," right? Is there anything short of surgery I can do to look more curvy or feminine?
>>
>>9793918
Try to build muscle on your butt and thighs. Also do core workouts to see if the issue is that you are retaining water in your gut. Eating some more high fiber veg can help.

Don't do laxatives or skinny tea. It works for a day or so, but it comes right back. Long term use of those is a recipe for gut problems. (Plus it's a slippery slope to EDs.)
>>
>>9793918 You can pad like drag queens do, otherwise putting on some weight can put curves where your bone structure doesn't. For butt curves hit the gym and work on your glutes.
>>
>>9793932
I already have thighs from years of endurance running and am on a high fiber diet for IBS. I'm pretty sure I'm not retaining water since I know what that feels like.
>>9793933
Are there specific squats that are supposed to help? I did strength training for a while and saw no difference, not sure if I wasn't using enough weight or what. And I don't get any more shapely with weight gain, just look more like a potato.
>>
>>9793918
I have the same issue and nearly the same measurements. The only real surgeries you can get are butt/breast implants or lower rib removal (for a smaller waist).

For workouts, you'd want to look into lunges rather than just squats; squats will just give you massive thunder thighs (unless you're looking for that). There's not a whole lot you can do with your actual hips.

The tricky part is that the coord is shiro, and the temperature lately goes as low as -5°C through the day. If I will be lucky, it will be around 0°C when I will be out.
I will check out the white thigh-high socks and tights I have, and see whichever feel warmer.

I guess I will cross my fingers (and legs), hoping that there will be no wind and I will have to stay outside as short as possible.
>>
>>9794836
Well shiro doesn't make it trickier, if anything it makes it easier because you still need to stick to a single solid color.
When in doubt, layer your OTKs and tights. Keep in mind your OTKs might be stretched out a bit afterwards so it's best to do this with a pair you can easily replace if need be. And consider getting a pair of bloomers eventually, even if you don't use them all the time, they're really good for extra warmth.
