Rumor has it that the game room is supposed to be amazing this year. I'm excited.

Also looking forward to attending a room party or two this time. Despite having gone to ACen for years now, it's something I still haven't done.
>>
who else flying in?
>>
hoping this year they'll kick chatterboxes out during the concert
>>
>>9813972
how do you go to room parties? do you just find them?
>>
>>9814084
If you're cool and don't act like a complete sperg, you might get invited to one. Also, go to the seagull meetups where there's plenty of room party mentionings
>>

Why? They're usually pretty lame.

>>
>>9814383
That's what people said last year and it was still people awkwardly sitting around until a dude brought coke and got the party broken up
>>
>>9814386
this is my first year so I'm pretty motivated to be sure we all have fun
>>
>>9814347
how do you find meetups?
>>
>>9814486
discord, or someone might post about it in this thread
>>
>>9814486
The 4chan ones get posted in here or in whatever discord is organizing them.
There's also the photo shoot meets where you can meet people who like the same series and talk to them about shows

Honestly even people you stop and take pics of in the hall and talk to about whatever they're cosplaying, as long as you're not awkward or weird and you have a good thing going they will probably invite you to hang out or whatever.
>>
>>9814383
Wait a minute... I recognize this Daki.

>>9814486
Discord or keep checking the thread. 9 times outta 10 it's gonna be In the thread. We meet at the Red Bar and just chill.
>>

dont sperg out too hard. last year a good 15 of us met up at the bar for overpriced food, and it just kind of went from there.

Cosplay plans probably gonna change one last time but the theme is idol trash from Thrusday to Sunday.
>>
I'm thinking about attending this year... it'd be my first since like... 12 years ago... is it worth it? It was fun 12 years ago but...
>>
>>9815070
at this point it's mostly the vendor hall, cosplay meetups, then parties
you could probably do most of it without a badge
>>
>>9815070
paneling has taken a side stage to the merch. everything is about fitting in even more vendors pushing the same bootlegs and then celeb guests. If you want to meet actual studios and authors straight from Nipland, then yes. Asides from that, the only draw is getting shitfaced and hanging out with the ragtag band of misfits on here.
>>
>>9815082

.... I think I'll skip, then. Have fun for me, gulls!

this will actually be my first con and I am beyond excited! planning on doing a monster hunter cosplay. Worst case scenario im just going to craft up the basic sexy male underwear and a low level hammer (hammer bro for life) but if I can find the time I'll try to slap together a kirin cosplay like pic related. The helmet would be a bitch but everything else could potentially be done in two months time

Is anyone else planning on increasing the beefcake population of Acen?
>>
>>9818372
>>9818375
If this is your first con then chances are you're not going to be a "beefcake" since everyone's first cosplay sucks

also that's a very complex cosplay so if you haven't started now you're not going to finish by ACEN
>>
>>9818382
by monster hunter standards its very simple since its almost exclusively sewing. (pic related is not me, its peter of tamayaki cosplay but is what i would be going for)

Bit of a moot point since you're almost certainly correct about me not finishing. Not that it bothers me, I'll be just as beefcake in a "Naked run w/hammer" cosplay.

Are you playing a cosplay stranger? :)

>>
This is my first time going to Acen. What should I expect overall? What should I avoid and what's a must?
>>
>>9818468
>what to expect?
Merch, merch, lots of merch. Several celeb guests and actual studio heads, writers, other notables and whatnot from glorious Nippon itself
Paneling was kind of meh last year, lots of people cancelling. Rave was good. Big rowdy party con with lots of stuff to spill shekels on, and a good amount of people from here going.
>>
>>9818468
Quality has been going down hill recently. Industry guests get beat out by other cons and their panels aren't up to par with other cons.
Parties and the rave are full of 16 to 18 year olds looking to get wasted do unless you're a pedo or looking to watch some teen girl ouke her guys out from alcohol poisoning those aren't really worth it
>>

Hentarmageddon! Porn, comedy, hentai dubbing competition and other games with mystery prizes, us taking shots of soy sauce for laughing, etc. Check us out and you might get free toy dinosaurs.

This is our eighth year and if we've done it before midnight before now I was too sleep-deprived to remember.

>>9818468

You'll have a good time. Avoid the shitty parties/drunk teens others are talking about, check out the late-night panels (not just mine), make sure to catch The Bad Anime Panel if you can, also from what I've seen in these threads the Oregon Trail panel's consistently fun as hell.

everything in the DH is overpriced, but meh, whaddayagonnado
>>

Is this a good con for kids who're just getting into anime? My coworker's got a pair of fourth graders (two out of a set of triplets, their brother must be mortified) who want to go to a real live convention and are having their mom sew them Hunter X Hunter costumes. I've been going since 2001 but haven't been there during the day in like ten years and I have no earthly idea what families would be looking for at a con anyway.

They're considering either this one or Midwest in July. I'd rather they not give any money to Kopf but I want then to have a lot to do.
>>
>>9823375
this one may honestly be overwhelming as babby's first con. If you don't wanna do the Kopf there's other smaller cons in the area
>>
>>9823375
I would say if you do 1 day for ACEN like Saturday, there's plenty of good cosplays for viewing and taking pics, along with a very good Artist Alley and Industry presence for getting fanart/official stuff. There will prob be a great HxH cosplay meetup too! If the kids are into dubs of anime, u might want to consider Midwest since it's like a third of ACEN size and usually has a wide variety of English voice actors.
>>
Is there a reason Anime Hell doesn't play classic clips like Rejected anymore?
>>
>>9823375
I think ACen has Children's Programming every year and the Manga Library's coming back so if your co-worker's looking for some family friendly activities, there's that. Midwest is smaller but for family friendly stuff, I didn't see anything dedicated last year but there is the maid cafe there.

Both do offer discounts for children with kids being a completely different price for acen and midwest giving $10 off whatever the adult price for kids for midwest. So there's that for you to tell.
>>
>>9823375
during the day is fine for kids but after about 6pm I would not have any kids under the age of 16 walking around
>>

>>9825498
you cant just say that and not tell the story anon
>>
>>9825532
Sorry, it was all over the news and in the acen fb group so I assumed everyone knew. Basically a girl died under suspicious circumstances at the crowne plaza. She was hanging out with some friends in a room there. She went missing, her friends claimed they didn’t know when she left or where she went. The friends then took her car and drove around for awhile and eventually decided to tell the girl’s mom that they couldn’t find her. Eventually she was found dead in a freezer in the hotel. It’s all super sketchy because the friends lied about some stuff, they took her car, and one of the friends was working at the hotel so they had access to the whole building. There’s also several videos from their room party which people tried to analyze for evidence. If you want the full story or to see the videos, look up Kenneka Jenkins.
>>
>>9825692
it took about two seconds of googling to find out it wasnt even a murder anon, dont hype things up so much when its just average drunken stupidity
>>
>>9825692
>>9825719
The fact that she could drunkenly stumble into the walk-in freezer could be negligence on the hotel's part, but it was ruled an accident. I don't see anything pointing towards foul play. There's no need to try and make it sound like a spooky murder story.

>>
There hasn’t been any good lolita or even jfashion stuff in a while, anyone know what’s up with that?
>>
>>9826707
it's an anime con so i wouldn't expect much on either front
>>
>>9826707
nobody in the local comm wants to sell their soul to staff or organize a fashion show, ngl I would love to see an indie fashion show next year but the rest of the lolita/jfash comm kinda gave up and put their energies towards anime midwest
>>
>>9826888
How ironic that lolitas would rather go to and support a con run by a rapist.
>>
>>9826707
You should try to run something next year!

>>9826902
Yeah it’s unbelievable how many people in jfash and cosplay try seem positive and supportive of the times up/me too movement and yet they still support kopf cons because doing otherwise would be mildly inconvenient to them
>>
>>9826902
>>9827658

Oh look, more he said she said bullshit.
People will stop supporting Kopf when he stops providing a better con experience than ACEN.
>>
>>9828342
so what you're saying is that even though he's a scummy guy who advertises his con in the middle of another con, and has a questionable past, he panders to lolitas more than ACEN so no lolita events at his competitor's con?
>>
>>9827658
Unfortunately, I’m not local so it would be really difficult to coordinate anything more than a panel.

I’m just curious to why no one local would do it? Does the Chicago comm have a grudge against Acen?
>>
>>9828485
I think it's more than Kopf makes lolita a centerpiece of his cons at the expense of other parts.
Con Alt Delete for example, had the same guest list it's had for the last 2-3 years but there was a huge focus on lolita even though walking around I never saw a single one
>>
>>9828485
A panel is better than nothing
>>
>>9828342
>more he said she said bullshit.
there's a police report, anon......

>>9828485
ACen just doesn't really care about Lolita stuff because it's niche and doesn't really "pay" back what's spent.
If you want panels or fashion shows feel free to organize one~

How are you guys deciding what to wear which day?
I have 2 cosplays, but the better if the two doesn't have a photo shoot, and the worse if the two has a shoot Friday and Saturday.

Do I just change halfway through the day, leave my best and favorite cosplay to sunday, or just skips shoots?
>>
>>9853943
Why do you want to wear the “worse” cosplay more than once? If there’s a shoot on both days, you don’t have to attend both. Just go to the one on Friday and wear the better one on Saturday.
>>
>1 month out
>nowhere near ready for panel

>>9853943

Saturday shoots tend to be more crowded, so if you want a lot of people to see it I would go to that one. Otherwise, just wear it for the Friday shoot then wear the better one Saturday. If you don't mind changing then do whatever.

>WEW LAD. Acen isn't exactly the best con in the US scene, or even in the Midwest, but kopf's cons are bootleg as fuck.

If you mean bootleg goods, there's actually not many.

If you mean the con is just a knockoff of acen, maybe, but more like when things were organized on time and the con staff seemed to care. Anime Midwest has a lot of good shit going on and costs less like acen used to.

Disappointed there aren't any lolita guests when teeny tiny Con Alt Delete had BTSSB, what the Hell

Also totally wondering why lolitas boycotted Anime Matsuri but have little problem with Kopf cons, though I go to them too so I can't really say shit

Regardless I'll probably walk around in lolita all weekend
>>
>>9863383
>why aren't there lolita guests?
because this is an anime con. CAD is an omnicon that is run by a very unpopular figurehead, so he needs to pander to whomever he can.
ACEN has no attendance issues by keeping it to strait anime and japanese culture only, so there's no need to get lolita guests
>>
>>9863385
Acen is too busy pandering to ravers
>>
>>9863383
it's not that ACen CANT get lolita guests, they just choose not to. they had AP and AaTP and chantilly a few years ago but it's not like lolita guests are super profitable and in high demand so they haven't even tried to invite any brands since.

>>9863386
>>9863385
ravers spend money to go to ACen and see the musical guests, maybe lolitas should have put their money where their mouths are if they wanted to keep stuff like AP around.

>also CAD is just another kopfcon so it's pretty easy to just import BTSSB to all of his events since hes already worked with them before

I broke my toe a few weeks before the con. So I haven't been able to even get to my sewing machine in the basement, let alone make anything. I get my next X-rays a week before the con. If I can't walk I think I'm going to get one of those knee scooter walkers. This is one of my few cons a year. I'm not going to let a small thing like broken bones stop me.
>>
>>9867941
That really sucks! Can you not get someone to move the sewing machine for you or is there nowhere else to put it or something? I hope your toe heals fast anon!
>>
>>9867968
Thanks anon. Acen would be the 5 week mark so I should be pretty much healed. I have figured out a way to drive even with the broken toe so I'm sure I could opperate the peddle but it's all the other moving and pinning that is the problem. Even if I had an assistant I still have no place to set up a station upstairs. Meh it's fine. I have old cosplays I can wear. Just the ability to walk around without a walker or crutches would make me happy. Haha.
>>
>>9823375
If they're not used to large crowds, it might be pretty overwhelming. Ramencon might be a safer bet to take kids to, at least for sanity.
>>
I ordered my 3 day badge too late for shipping. How beneficial is it to show up early (say, before 10AM) on Friday to pick it up?
>>
>>9868294
As someone who lives in the area, I always just go Thursday to pick it up tbqh. Shit is already popping Friday morning at Acen, but better then than later that day.
>>
>>9863383
You know believe it or not but cons are actually really interested in who their attendees want to see. If you want lolita back at acen, start sending them emails requesting that. Go on the Chicago comm fb group and start a campaign to get them to email acen about it too. The more people requesting it, the more likely they are to listen.

Just so no one misconstrues anything, this did not happen during ACEN and was almost certainly not a murder.

That said, if me and my black friend showed up as Vincent and Jules from Pulp Fiction would that be obnoxious? We're going together and we can't really think of any male black and white pair in anime AND he's being a chode and doesn't wanna be Brock.
>>
>>9870625
Nobody will mind. That said:

Bakura and Marik (Yugioh)
Simon and Shizuo (Durarara)
Dan JD and Iceman Hottie (Basquash)
Soma and Hayama (Shokugeki)

They're not all black, but it matches the dynamic closely enough.

Nobody cares if cosplay is actually anime related as long as it's not Deadpool or Homestucks. Some guy last year wore boxing gloves and a white box with "United Airlines" on it and people went fucking nuts.

Not me. The past few years have had bad contestants, so while the panel members are still as good as always, the quality of the events have been brought down by shitty, unfunny players.

ACen is collapsing as an anime con and becoming C2E2 Normieville 2.0 due to people like your friend. Every year I see less and less people doing anime cosplays and more and more people doing some shit comic book or Hollywood movie cosplay. Half the people at con seem like they don't even watch anime anymore.Tell your friend to kill himself.

I actually really enjoyed the limited amount of Midwest I attended before I got too drunk and sprained both ankles. They had a consuite! And karaoke!

Granted the karaoke was what you'd find at any bar in Chicago (seriously, who has Bread at an anime con but no Megumi Hayashibara?), but still...

>>
>>9833360
>there's a police report, anon......
I'm not necessarily defending Kopf, but a police report doesn't mean anything on its own because you can just bullshit anecdotal evidence for your case. Anyone can get a police report filed if they have a convincing enough story, but nothing actually matters until the accused party is tried and found guilty in court.

>about 6-7 people in street clothes
>if you're lucky, 1 girl
>over half the people there will be crossboarders or be constantly asking about parties or drugs, or picking up women
>the ones who aren't will be talking about traps or staring at their phones
>a few people will head off to a party or a panel or something and everyone else will just break off

also, don't ask about parties, asking to get invited is the quickest way to not be invited.
Honestly the meet ups aren't that great and are usually full of thirstlords.
>>
About what age do you think you should stop going to anime conventions?
>>
>>9881345
Most people go to cgl meetups with some really fucking weird expectations of what they are but you're more or less right. I more or less will swing by a meetup area see if anything is going on maybe buy a beer and hang out for 10-15 minutes. If you're idea is to meet up to get into one of the prearranged parties, pretty unlikely since most people have set up a discord or something by then to plan it and keep them on a pretty tight leash, especially acen since a ton of underage people try to get drinks.

>>9881358
Why is there an age limit, I've met people in their 60's still going to cons and having fun. Just don't be a weirdo trying to get with young people, and just go because there is shit you like to do. I think the median/average age for most cons is like 25 or something now.
>>
>>9881358
Around 30 to 35 is when you should stop doing nightlife at cons and focus on programming, cosplay, or merch. Especially at acen, being that 40 year old guy drinking with 20 year olds is creepy
>>
>>9881208
Most cons are, especially if you are a gopher/volunteer; just expect everything to change randomly by the hour then have no way to understand what is going on.

Basically what the other anons said. Meetups are just that, some gulls meetup up for 30-45 minutes before they all retreat to their prearranged parties, hit a bar, or go to the dance. Most of the time it's cool, been to a few where it was just a whole bunch of "well I totally left my ID in my hotel room but am really 24! can you buy me a drink from the bar PLEASE!" or "hey where's the mega party, I can't give any details but it was the one everyone knows where it is and is really big and cool I am suppose to go just forgot any detailed information about it!".

Go stop by expecting to just chill with a few anons for a bit and leave or group up with a few others with not much to do. If memory serves right the Hyatt bar is pretty expensive in terms of drinks/food so I don't expect people looking to share a drink will stick around there long.

Turning 30 this December, but I've only been going to cons since 2014. I intend to do it for as long as I still have fun with the experience, although I have a feeling that at some point I'm going to move from just being an attendee to volunteering/staffing.

This idea of an age limit is weird. Anime can be enjoyed by people of all ages, and if you're having a good time, nothing else really matters.

>>9881358
You stop when either you fall out of love or financial ability. Age should never be a factor.
>>
>>9881210
Basically you have a nucleus of gulls hanging out and sharing what's been going on during the day, and then a shitload of orbiters will drift in and out with a good deal being degenerates or "crossboarders" (retards who think they'll get involved with some ambiguous cool shit because they're hanging out with people from 4chan).
>>
>>9873743
This will be my 4th year going, since 2015. I am so pumped, I head downtown tomorrow on Thursday for the con, chilling with my homeboys at their Dorm til the con.

Will be my first year going all 3 days + going to the rave. I'm actually really pumped for the rave, as I hear a lot of wild things go on at it, I plan to get wasted and dance it up, meet some nice people too! I have never found any of the meetup places either.

meetup is redbar at the hyatt, 7pm both nights. look for the fat men and prettybois in touhou attire
>>
>>9881358
If you go with friends or to meet up with friends there's no reason to stop going no matter how old you are. It's not like some of them are getting younger while you get older. If you're going to find a new group of barely 20 year olds to hang out with every time, I'd say your body will let you know when to stop.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to buy a room, or rather, have not yet, so I won't be able to run an emergency room like last year. I'll keep a lookout about buying a room off of someone to do what I did last year, but for now, nada.

>>9873743
2004? 2005? I forget, it's been many years. And still there shenanigans and bullshit that happens with management, ha. Though for most of that, I had a curse in that I was only able to make it every other year.

>>9817202
You're not fucking old. And old people cosplay too so get out of here with that shit.
>>
>>9881345
Surprised it's all guys since this is a majority-female board
>>
>>9883327
It's 50/50 but most cgl girls bail quick at meetups if they aren't the center for attention
>>
>>9883330
That's very wrong
>>9883327
The reason for that is the number of very thirsty guys looking to hook up with a cosplay girl outnumber the normal cgl people. Girls don't show up often because they don't really want to be surrounded by autistic guys in street clothes asking about their feet or whatever.

There are a lot of girls, and a lot more people on here than show up at the meet, but it's typically at a private party or smaller group where they won't have randos from r9k, v, or wherever else trying to out their dick in anything that moves.
>>
>>9883327
Usually it's just people looking to sit chill talk about a few things before going off to parties, it also has a lot of people from other boards just showing up looking for said parties and wanting to be invited because "lel I has video game t shirt on!".

Really just depends on the cons, gone to a few where it was a lot of women, gone to others with just dudes wanting to go to the closest bar and party, also dealt with many other situations. ACEN is fucking and not everyone makes it up that planned to go anyways.
>>

you can say damage control all you want but in terms of guests, his cons blew ACEN out of the water last year. ACEN is stepping it up this year, but they need to ditch some of their image of only being a party con if they want to compete with the big boys like C2E2, and AX
>>
>>9884933
acen still 3x the size of AMW and 2x the size of AMW + CAD, I think theyre safe for at least another 3 years.
Chicago is kind of a party scene, lots of people come from out of town to it specifically because of that reputation. Kopf just gets beat at that game so he plays the other hand of "oh theyre not about anime" and it doesnt really work...
>>
>>9884935
you seem to think that Size of a con is everything, along with partying being the main reason people go to cons.
Maybe it is for underage b&, and crossboarders, but people definitely go for the guests and daytime panels, which ACEN has always been lacking in. They started booking good guests this year but idk if it's enough when they pump so much money into flying DJs in from Japan for a stupid rave.

DAY 1

IT IS FINALLY HERE AND HERE WE GO
>>
Still too shy to hang out with you guys. Looks like fun though
>>
>>9885285
wimp
>>
>>9885289
I'll pop up tomorrow if you guys post
>>
In a panel with a legendary anime animator. But of course the room is half empty because all these Fucking weebs can't appreciate good animation
>>
>>9885350
VOFAN?
>>
go to the mech game in the game room
>>
>>9885350
Was it mitsuo iso? I was just there
>>
Anyone going to project B.B panel
>>
Synergy is canceled due to aforementioned visa issues with some of the artists.
https://twitter.com/animecentral/status/997557461136629762?s=19
It has been replaced with another event.

I feel bad for anyone who came out just for Synergy.
>>
>>9885421
Is this yet another Fakestar fuckup?
>>
>>9885350
>>9885411
How did the panel go? Did he announce anything?
>>
>>9885431
No he just showed off his animation carrier and talked about working as an animator
>>
>>9885435
How was his engrish? Or did he have an interpreter? Did he take questions?
>>
What panels are worth going to tonight?
>>
>>9885452
Funimation peep show should be fun
>>
>>9885431
No but he might on Sunday. His panel for Friday was strictly focusing on his past work/cuts.
>>
>>9885448
He had an interpreter and called cool people “hentais”. He took some questions nothing too crazy though
>>
>>9885421

>ACEN in charge of correct paperwork
>>
>>9885421
whats synergy anyway
>>
>>9885470

Japanese rave. This year's lineup was a shitload of Bemani guests (Kors K, Ryu, etc).
>>
>>9885485
Tfw no DJ Kagamine cringefest
>>
>>9885502
Don't worry, you get him both tonight and tomorrow.
>>9885485
I really wanted to see kors k and Ryu, but I would've been working anyway. I have a problem of always missing the people I want to see at Synergy.
>>
>>9885534
Fuck
>>
>>9885055

Viewing rooms, raves, and vidya do not count as panel programming
>>
>wanted to see Project BB and Sonoda most of all
>couldn't because it was scheduled at fucking 3,PM and the Renaissance didn't check us in until 4:15
Shoot me.
>>
>>9885421

>>9885615
I dunno, since I never cared for the rave anyways, I can say it's really nice, the night atmosphere. Night panels are more relaxed. And you might snag some booty.

>>
>>9885819
Arcade and battletech

How's the board game section?
>>
>>9885833
This desu if you don't fuckin play that battletech mech game you're seriously missing out
>>
Surprisingly I didnt hear about any orgies yet.
>>
Anyone know what happened with those two guys that got wheeled out
>>
does anyone know if there is a windjammers arcade machine anywhere in the game room?
>>
Is the doujins well priced? I was considering getting one today but I have no idea how to price them. I know they are pretty cheap to buy in Japan, but the whole shipping aspect of it can get pricey. But l really don't want to pay more than I should.
>>
>>9885991
It evens out after shopping, really. Unless you have someone going to Japan and buying them for you while they're there, you're not getting too much of a difference either way.
>>
>>9873743
I first went in 2004 and 2005 and then I went again in 2014. Now I'm fat and more disabled and I don't really want to hang out with a bunch of young 20 somethings and teenagers. I never understood how older people could go to conventions and have a good time. I just get depressed.
>>
>>9884771
I ended up not wearing it because I didn't try it on like a dummy and turns out I don't fit it anymore. I'm still losing weight from having a kid. I do have a gun prop and plate carrier for it though it's one of my favorite cosplays. Maybe next year I can fit it or alter it to be a little bigger and hey I have some more motivation to lose these last few pounds!
>>
Currently at Rosemont Giradanos. Looking for room party tonight. How do I find one?
>>
>>9886151
If you have a vagina I wouldn't worry.

Otherwise try not to be autistic, or at least have liquor to offer to get yourself into one.
>>

anyone got pics of the nier meet? I swear i'm cursed with never finding pics people have taken of me. It was a pretty massive meet yet I have yet to find a single pic of it.
also
>people request poses with 2b
>fat short ugly 2b in shitty "fancy" outfit volunteers every time
>none of the decent 2bs volunteer
>80% of 2b pose requests end up with 2diaBets front and center
>>
>>9886547
The evolved form of asking for a pic and their friend insists on being in frame even though they are a different franchise.
>>
>>9886547
Nope. I was in the middle of a signing. Whoever this man was in the rat/bart bootleg, great job. I’m absolutely terrified of the cosplay.
>>
>>9886407
Well Acen is pretty much Ambulacon. I mean didnt they get up past a dozen ambulances last year?
>>
>>9886332
Cuz a lot of the people who have made this go to con are getting old and just want to get drunk in their rooms and watch Food Network rather than be asshats pulling fire alarms, or setting off the elevator alarms, or shitting in the lobby, or breaking doors.
>>
Do they still open the gates in the parking garage past like, 3am so you can leave for free?
>>
>>9886603
that's not rat/bart that's ratboy genius!!!!
>>
>>9886628
According to the EMTs I was shooting the shit with and IIRC yeah, something like 10 or so.

>>9886677
Little King John cosplay when?
>>
I am hungover
>>
>>9881358
I'm older and mostly do panels now and help organize events and different aspects of the conventions. You grow out of some aspects of con life, you come to realize that partying is a waste of time and energy and there's no real reward to those "night life" activities anymore when you start getting older, instead, you grow into a new type of con life. You create and make things others enjoy. You hang out with people your age, hit up a nice restaurants, drink some wine over a good meal, and chat about.. well guess you would say "mature" topics.

It's part of life. You won't be in your 20s forever, and it's a natural part of life to grow out of activities you found fun and exciting when you were that age.

How'd we do at Hentarmageddon? Saw a lot of people leave during the new people's info sections, were surprisingly low on willing participants for the dubbing contest this year.

I did find room parties, sorry I didn't really post about em. But the real drugfest was outside. Jeezus. In any case, had a good time I think overall. Prices for things in general seem even more jacked up than usual.

I'm a hookah person in general, so that's one of the highlights for me Saturday nights when there's none of the panels I want on. Went for the hookah, stayed because a nice time and plenty of drinky, and eventually having to do the parent thing and babysit drunks. One friendo there was really fucked up, like he was high, drunk, and had a bad hit of acid or something at the same time. But I got him to his room eventually lol. I hope he's doing alright.

>>9887289
Dang i was shad yesterday and an impromptu d.va on friday. Still wish i had seen ya
>>
>>9887291
Yeah, it was really fun up to a certain point. Some drunk guy made his way into my friends party and lied down on the bed claiming it was his room. I had to yell at this guy and explain to him that he was literally 7 flights up and well past his hotel room
>>
>>9887338
This is precisely why invites shouldn't be mass broadcast.
>>
>>9887187
same here, I've never had this great of a con time. probably had something to do with me actually saying fuck it and getting a room at the hyatt instead of driving back and fourth as well as because of better scheduling on my part

>>9887279
>Prices for things in general seem even more jacked up than usual.
yea, I noticed this too. I remember asking for the price of a keychain, and being able to tell the stall runner had literally made the price up on the spot
>>
>>9887338
Ah but that's half the fun! Can't really help doing the parent thing and helping attend to drunk kids who are unfamiliar with their limits and are out from their parents thumb for the first time. Even legal randos do it, or especially do.

Why didn't you tell us of this friends party? Not that I really have room to talk since I didn't tell you ones I found.

Not when the room you paid for gets damaged and the person responsible pisses off and you're stuck with the bill. Alternatively, getting shut down by the police.

Well that does suck. But you gotta learn how to run a party room better, and I hope you did. One key aspect is having someone run the door, preferably you. Another is check IDs no matter what. And make the door person has some actual gravitas, and upper body strength, in case belligerent drunks show up. I'm sorry you had the room damaged, but these things apply to all parties, not just room parties.

I hope it doesn't put you off hosting forever though, when done right, room parties can be memorable forever.
>>
>>9887439
I think you're mistaken. I'm not the host. I just so happen to know the people who hosted room parties personally.

I don't know about anyone else, but it really seemed this year as if the Hyatt in particular doesn't want to be hosting this shit anymore. Far less tolerant of parties and stuff. I mean I get that dealing with a bunch of gross weebs every year and a bunch of ambulance calls on Friday and Saturday is not a good look, but they should just stop fucking hosting if they don't like it.
>>
>>9887984
We had a suite and when we got there they made us sign a waiver that we could only have 5 people in the room. Its like dude.. what. We had the cops come to our room even ON THURSDAY. Everyday they came to check on us. Its pretty crazy cuz my friend is like.. a hyatt club member or something I guess and normally gets the management a gift every year and we are generally treated well. This year it was just like fuck you to everyone I guess.

On another note I was one of the thundercocks dudes, nice seeing everyone again, if.. I know anyone here that is.
>>
>>9888021
same, they had us sign the same waiver and it's like, we have more than 5 people simply sleeping here you dumb motherfuckers. also I laughed because their little waiver said "no alcohol not purchased in our hotel bar" and other goofy shit.

We initially thought it was an insurance policy to make it easier to kick out especially problematic groups who get multiple complaints, but fucking housekeeping was snitching to the front desk and immediately called police. IRT wasn't even involved, either.

no idea who thundercocks are though

>Note for next year, avoid the Hyatt because its full of degens who get the cops attention

>>
>>9888060
it's because everyone drinks a bunch and does a bunch of drugs then goes to the rave and never hydrates or puts limits on themselves so they end up collapsed or OD'ing or getting alcohol poisoning. And this is the entire con, not just the Hyatt, the Hyatt just happens to be where all the parties are

So what can anyone tell me about the prop checking at ACen this year? I heard it was problematically lax. I want to know if anyone else had any issues with it.
>>
>>9888175

>>
>>9813949
Is the discord in the OP a nice place?
>>
>>9888175
near as I can tell, prop checking was entirely voluntary outside of a few areas. I don't recall even seeing anything ziptied or anything. I didn't cosplay myself, but I saw plenty of big ass props.

>>9888214
there was a sign at the entrance to the dealer hall, but again, it seemed voluntary.
>>
>>9888175
I only brought a small prop pistol on Friday before they put out the prop check signs and I couldn't figure out where to go for it so I just never went to get it checked and nobody ever said anything to me about it. Of course it was kind of out of sight in a holster most of the time though. I didn't see anyone with any sort of bands or anything around their props either. I thought maybe there wasn't even any prop check until I saw the signs out on Saturday

Bit late on this, but I've had a suite for seven years running, throw a private party every year and have never had an issue with IRT or the hotel.

Just don't be an dumb about how you throw things. Don't let too many outside randoms in, lay down some ground rules, and toss anyone that breaks them.

And don't let anyone under 21 in at all. All of the 'rules' on their waver are more of a CYA thing, as long as you aren't throwing a rave in your room or serving a bunch of highschoolers you're probably going to be fine.

nah I'm no stranger to hotel parties in suites and this is still a bit more stringent than previous years.

They're far less lenient of the parties than they were in previous years, and the waiver gives them more of a justification to shut down parties and kick people out. It's a CYA thing yeah but they also want to cut down on parties.

No, stop asking because it's fucking creepy and unless you're a really good Okita crossplayer she isn't going to like you.
