I'm getting ready to start my lolita wardrobe, but I not sure what pieces I should get first. I got around $300 set aside and I will be primary buying secondhand.
>>
>>9820253
Do you know what style you want to start with? This will determine the style of everything else. It can be difficult to mix different style blouses.
I would get a jsk or skirt, rather than an OP. They are more versatile. Then focus on a decent petti that matches the main piece in cut.
>>
>>9820253
Also, know what style of dress will suit your body type. There are a few different cuts of dresses and nothing hurts more than looking like a giant frilly potato in a cut that doesn’t sit right.
>>
Recommendations on good basic sewing pattern books?
I just want basic shirt, dress, pants patterns which would be easy to modify to different cosplays. I know there's books out there which has ready made basic patterns but the one I want the most is sold-out everywhere.

What would be the best way to do the visor and buckle, other stuff the belt for Char? I've already worked everything else out. I'm thinking about using thin cardboard for the belt stuff, but unsure about the visor. I could use cardboard but it'd look crinkled when bent around my face. I'm thinking of going to Joann's/Home Depot and seeing if there's some thin, plastic stuff I could use for it.
>>
>>9820253
its cheaper to get a skirt+blouse than a jsk+blouse so i'd get a skirt as your first main-piece

Should I just go with DHL? Is there significant better chance of it reaching me in better condition with the other ones? I don't mind paying more if it means my stuff is more safe

I haven't chose shipping like this before so I don't know the reputations of these methods, and info would be super appreciated
>>
>>9821784
What's being shipped? This is ZenMarket, right? You can always pay a little extra for reinforced packaging if you're really worried; I've done this when having parasols shipped with EMS and never had issues.
>>
>>9821789
a couple of bits of clothing, not more than 2kg. and yeah, zenmarket.
i just wanted to know if like SAL, DHL or airmail has a bad reputation for taking forever or losing things
>>
>>9821811
In that case you shouldn't worry about damages to the parcel, ZM are very good at packaging even if you don't pay extra for reinforcement.
I've never used SAL and haven't had anything shipped with DHL in years, but airmail is typically fine. The only "issue" with airmail is that it takes a bit too long in my opinion, I have no patience so I tend to prefer EMS.
It might depend more on where you live and what the different services are like in your country though.

almost all the wigs for males seem super cheap, like 10-15 bucks at most.

Does that mean they're shit or is it just because its mass produced and anime wigs are by default cheaper to make than actual realistic wigs.

I've heard quite a few gulls discuss using sports bras to compress the boobage when they wear their dresses. Is there anyone who can tell me what kind of bra to recommend a 32 C size bra? I also work out a lot so if the bra is high impact that would be another big plus!
>>
>>9821983
Just literally any sports bra will do. If you want more compression than what a sports bra gives, wear a binder instead
>>
>>9821971
they are usually shit BUUUUT they're not party city shit. the specific kind of shit cheap anime wigs are is usually thin as hell and frizzes/tangles easily
meaning if you're not planning on styling it heavily, you can get a cheap wig to look pretty decent
>>
So I'm gonna be distressing some fabric soon. I've been told Tulip fabric paints are a good brand.

Once I've applied the paint, can I still wash the garment? I imagine it would fade the paint at least somewhat, but would it totally remove the paint? Should I wash it by itself, or would it still be safe to wash with other garments?
>>
What are some clothing brands like Cyberdog that are around the same price point (or less)? I have no problem using a shopping service so Japanese brands are fine if there's still any ones that make that style of clothing
>>
>>9821970
honestly, I've ordered a 3 pound wig from ebay in the past, and it came in better shape than a 15 euro wig I picked up at a local costume shop. if you're good at wig styling/cutting, those can actually turn out quite decent.

I don’t want to keep shitting up the BST thread, so I’ll ask here instead. How should I word asking for a partial refund from a lm seller? Her proof photos looked good and there was no damage disclosed, but when it got to me it was badly discoloured. But I’ve never asked for a refund before so not sure how to word it?

How washable is Romantic Rose Letter? There are some stains I want to remove but I’m afraid of the print fading or the colors running.

Wash it on its own or handwash the first time just to be safe, then after that you're good to just treat it normally

is it even possible for asian people to look "cute" without circle lenses in lolita?? almost all asian lolitas I follow wear circle lenses and while I'm willing to try them, I'm not too interested in them.

Of course. The asian lolitas you're seeing are just online and aren't really the huge majority of asian lolitas. I know that in oldschool it was popular to not wear much makeup including circle lenses.
Personally I find them a bit creepy, they just look really unnatural.

I'm fairly new to keeping lolita dresses pristine, can anyone tell me how to safely get the wrinkles out? I've been too terrified to take an iron to any of my dresses. I know you can put a pillow case over delicate fabric and iron on low heat but I'm not sure if that would be ok.

God, I'm so annoyed over this dumb mail situation, figure I might as well ask for advice here.

>buy dress on LM
>seller sends it via her national post
>eurodis couriers it to me, then UKmail is meant to pick it up and deliver it to me.
>package arrives at my house, it's not my fucking package
>it obviously is meant to go to someone else, has a different address on it (somewhere in kent) but UKmail has put my address on it on another sticker
>has some bullshit in it which isn't meant for me obviously, I shouldn't have opened it but i didn't see the other addresses before i did
>package tracking is telling me it's arrived at my house, but obviously it's just the sticker
>ring Ukmail
>"Sorry anon.. we just deliver what we're given, ring the courier"
>try contacting eurodis through their shitty contact form, no answer
>seller is going to try and see if my postage insurance covers this

God freakin damnit I want my dress though. What do i do? I'm still waiting on answers but I want to be proactive. Please don't tell me I have no hope
>>
>>9823224
PayPal is shit protection lol. Most people trade within their comm, so they trust each other. Though maybe that's just because LM doesn't allow trades, so people post them in the fb sales groups of their comm/country. I would trade with someone from outside my comm/country but only if she has 100% positive feedback.
>>
>>9823548
Does the seller have pictures of the package or remember how the packaging looks like? That would help a lot when you report a lost parcel.
>>
>>9823580
I'm not sure. I'll ask, but currently I have no idea who lost it or even if they have just delivered it to someone else

Shit shit shit I'm so angry at myself right now...

Do any of you gulls know the name of this headdress? The movie is from 2004, if it’s any help.
>>
>>9823308
You can relatively easily get them out when the dresses are wet, preferably after they're hand washed. I hang mine up on their hangers to dry, and smooth out the fabric/gently shake them up from the hems to get wrinkles out. It depends on how thick the fabric is but that usually gets most if not all the wrinkles out.

Recently bought milky cross OP and the organza top layer on the dress is ripped in multiple places. Do I have to take out the entire sleeves to fix or is there another way? (I have intermediate sewing knowledge)

>>
>>9823736

If you are just repairing the rips then no. If you are replacing the organza completely, maybe. It really depends where the rips are, a photo would help

AP USA, Baby SanFran and Tokyo Rebel all have blouses in stock and ship quickly.

Check WW there are plenty of blouses on there now. Don't forget WW Fleur as well. If you want quick it will be expensive. Otherwise you'll need to be patient and check CC and LM daily for stuff that pops up.

The hat is a bit of a problem because of the insignia, imo anyway; otherwise I don't think you'll be banned just for wearing the set as long as you don't pose with the Nazi salute or anything similarly provocative, but do keep in mind that some newbs who aren't familiar with D Walkure and the controversy around it might pitch a fit. Worst case scenario your coord might be removed from COF, if a shitstorm happens.

>>
>>9827294
you can search most brands in English ("Angelic Pretty", "Baby the Stars Shine Bright") and then use the categories in the search filters to narrow it down.

Select "レディース" (women) from the dropdown and then a secondary dropdown should pop up. I then let Google Chrome translate the page into English so I can select whatever I want from there (hair accessories, "onepiece" for dresses, etc.).
>>
>>9821715
Btssb shop staff confirmed sissy
>>
>>9827337

When I hit this point I usually take a waist tie with me into the fabric store to find the perfect match fabric. Then make my own headbow. If you're not crafty, maybe look for a local seamstress who can sew it up for you (you provide the fabric to be sure it's the color you want).

The other alternative is to go with something other than a matching headbow, but it highly depends on your coord. You could try looking for pink pearl and white pearl hair accessories if you're going for a sweet-elegant vibe. If you'll be wearing a lot of white and blue you may be able to get away with using smaller white and blue accessories instead. etc.

Late answer, but if you're still here.

I find eye makeup to work better than circle lenses for looking cute. Try roma gyaru makeup tutorials (not the circle lenses, just the makeup), they tend to work pretty well at giving a nice, doe-eyed look.

I'm so confused.
I was looking at all the stuff I've purchased on Lace Market and I scrolled all the way down and noticed something strange.
An item that I literally never purchased was there.
I checked and it said that I won the auction.
I know I wouldn't have bought it myself because it wouldn't fit me (It's a Bodyline blouse in small, and I'm too much of a fatty chan to fit into that) and it's not something I'd like.
The seller never messaged me regarding it, and I never messaged them. They do have a lot of positive feedback, so it's not like it was a deadbeat seller.
I'm just so confused. This happened in Janurary 2017, so it was a long time ago. It's not like I could've misclicked and bought it, you always have to confirm a purchase on LM.
Has this happened to anyone else? I'm just really confused. I'd feel awful if somehow I bought something and never paid for it, but at the same time the seller didn't message me if I did buy it. Is it just LM glitching out?
>>
>>9827525
Can you find evidence of payment? Maybe contact the LM admins
>>
>>9827572
Well it's not like I ever paid for it, I'm quite stingy so I always pay a lot of attention when I'm buying something, nor did the seller ever send me an invoice, message, etc. I'd expect that of someone with 0 feedback, but I believe this person has 20+ feedback.
I'm usually very on top of things so I feel like I'd at least remember that I purchased something. I just feel really bad for that seller if I really did purchase it and never pay, but then they also never asked for payment. There's no history of them messaging me.
Since it was so long ago, I don't think it really matters enough for the admins to get involved, it's just really strange and confusing.
If it was something I think I'd buy, it'd be a little less confusing.. but considering it's too small for me and not my style, it just seems like some kind of glitch.

Why does AP give a little piece of print cloth with the dress?
>>
I have a genetic skin condition (that’s not contagious), but I’d still love to wear lolita. For the most part I prefer pre-2006 pieces, so how would I go about keeping them in pristine condition/free of stains? Out of pure respect for the brands that made them and in case I ever feel the need to sell any of my items. Would long-sleeved undershirts/plain shorts work as protective garments? Sorry for the weird question, feel free to point out how gross I am desu.
>>
>>9827881
Depends on the kind of skin condition (rashes vs. some kind of secretions), but in most cases an undershirt/undershorts would be fine, yeah.
>>
>>9827616
The scrap of cloth is something you can use to test cleaning products before using them on your dress.
>>
>>9827881
I don’t wear Lolita myself but I’m sure if you found a thin enough material for both garments, that doesn’t make you uncomfortable, and looks okay, that’d totally work! But stacking too many layers could chaff and be worse.
>>
So, does the men's Roland jacket have enough flare for a lolita coordinate or is it different enough from the female coat that I'd have a hard time. Bust and waist are out of measurement for the female cut.
>>
>>9827881
Yes they would work. They would probably look out of place if you wore them under short sleeves or in place of a blouse, but you could probably wear a long undershirt below a jsk and cardigan and look fine. Shorts are 100% fine, the petticoat will also add several layers of protection for the dress.
>>
>>9827999
It's fine for lolita.

>>9827881
Compression wear/activewear might be better depending on the skin condition and the climate you live in, as it's usually designed to keep you cool and also breathe. Since it is skintight it will also prevent chafing. You shouldn't be able to see it since lolita is fairly full coverage. Something like psoriasis or eczema where you need to be creamed up may actually benefit from that as well because it'd be kinda like a wet wrap.
>>
How fitted should a Roland be? My bust is 84 cm, so the women L is looking a bit large for me... But the M is out of stock.
>>
>>9827999
The men’s is just larger, but it’s larger all around. Check the measurements because the shoulders are bigger abs the sleeve length is a bit longer.

>>9828246
It shouldn’t be skin tight because it’s over Lolita. If you fit the M the L will be baggy though, it’s closer to the men’s size it seems.

Fabulously stupid question. I've always had a crease around red line related. I'm not fat and I've always been around the same weight, just slightly chubby/soft. As a kid i know I wore a lot of ill fitting clothing due to poverty, including panties that were too tight as I grew. It's been there as long as I can remember, including as a child. I'm worried this crease is permanent and caused by that. Is the crease normal, and is there anything I can do to get rid of it now?
>>
>>9828368
Wig detangler, or a silicone spray (people commonly use Mane N Tail, yes it's for horses but it works).
>>
>>9828257
So with an 84 bust... I'm close to the measurements for the M and I'm not getting any thinner, but I guess the L would be too big for me. Guess I have to try to find one secondhand or wait until their next rerelease.
>>
>>9828819
Boz doesn’t show the waist but keep that in mind. The M is small probably 66 or 68 so if that is ok for you too then wait for the M for sure. If that is a bit too small you can try the L and sell if it doesn’t suit you.

A little new to buying lolita online. I've really only purchased second hand from lace market, but while searching for a dress I stumbled upon closet child. Is it a legit site? I don't want to buy replicas.

Closet Child is legit, yes. So are Wunderwelt, Lolita Desu, and Maidenclothing.
>>
How does lolita dress value depreciate over time? A dress I'm trying to buy secondhand is basically new (only tried on, I believe), isn't super sought-after, is about three years old, and retailed for $300 when it was released. What price should I propose, since the seller is asking me to do so?

I'm almost 20 and have never cosplayed in my life. Would I look autistic or creepily overage if I crossplayed Prussia from Hetalia?
I no longer watch/read the series, but I have wanted to cosplay this fucker since I was 11. Yet I understand most people into Hetalia are younger than me.
>>
>>9830253
Most people still into Hetalia are about that age but they've been in the fandom for years and haven't grown mentally at all.
You still can if you direly want to, I just don't recommend interacting with any other Hetalia cosplayers.
>>
>>9830281
Yeah, I figured it would probably be better for me to do it with my old Hetalia friends at my own flat instead of actually going to a con in full cosplay. I want no association with the screaming fujoshi girls that are my age and act like teenagers.
I don't think the current fandom is as controversial as it was 5 years ago when every other cosplayer was ironically sieg heiling, but you can't be too safe I guess.

Dumb question from an anon who crossdresses and likes to wear ball gowns and prom dresses.

Is there any difference in hanging heavier dresses up with wooden hangers or velvet lined plastic ones? I currently hang all my stuff up on wood hangers but I was wondering if I should switch over to velvet.

Just a question bc sometimes I have questionable judgment - would a cute cafe waitress coord be too costumey? Using strictly HQ actual-lolita items ofc. Nothing cheap or shitty.
>>
Wtf, is my package back on its way to Japan? Or is this a weird mistake
>>

Looks like a dispatch scan was missed so they added it later. You can always check on local tracking to make sure it's moving as it should in your country.
>>
Do I bother selling brand tights, that have been used once? I'm receiveing them as a part of set, and while I don't want to keep them myself I feel bad for throwing them out.
>>
>>9830785
ahh, thank you. I didn't think of that.
>>
>>9830463

Velvet hangers are less slippery so they're used for things like jackets so they don't slip off the hangers and end up in a messy heap on your floor. That's their main draw.
>>
>>9830747

TPO. Find a time, place, occasion where it's perfectly reasoable for you to dress in a waitress outfit and that will be fine.

There usually isn't a blanket "this is okay" for everything. An OTT princess looks nuts shopping for groceries. A casual cutsew dress looks too sloppy for a tea party.

That said, I can't really think of any place where it's okay to look like a cafe waitress. Maybe you can think of one though.
>>
>>9830824

If the condition is fairly good, I'd say try listing them for sale anyway. They can be cut up and made into thigh-highs, worn with garters to keep them up. There's some prints that don't have OTK options so I guess making used tights into thigh-highs are the next best option if you're one of those collector types. Or maybe some girls just don't mind used tights, idk.

If they look kind of ratty then throw it out, or cut it up and use as rags to clean around the house.

If you have enough space you could also consider hoarding it until you want to sell the dress.
>>
Has anybody ever purchased a pre made costume and run into someone wearing the same thing? Is it ever awkward?
>>
>>9830865
Yes, but it’s only awkward if you act autistic about it. A nice “Hey nice costume!” and then move on is fine. They’re pre made costumes so unless you’ve specifically changed or modified something there’s not really any reason to make a big deal out of it
>>
>>9828406
i mean... does it really matter. most people wont even notice or care.
>>
>>9829454
i feel like part of it is traslating the character from 2d to real life. certain things wont look right in real life if you try for 100% accuracy. like when people do very sharp points of hair all over their fringe and it looks like shit, but it technically is accurate.

there was this character i was cosplaying with piss yellow ribbons all over and it genuinely looked cheap with piss yellow ribbons, so i used a slightly more muted yellow and it made the costume look so much better overall.
>>
>>9830865
i had a premade costume at home that i didnt wear to a con, but i swear... almost every single person dressed as the character was wearing the one i bought. it was so fucking funny.
>>
>>9830851
Thanks! That's a good way to think about my outfits in the future. Maybe I'll save it for a roller skating meet.
>>
I bought blouse in pic secondhand and it was fairly yellowed. I treated it with seventh generation detergent and then a soak with oxyclean, and while the blouse itself is looking great, the ribbons sewn in are still yellow. Is there anything I can use to treat those ribbons?

Overdone, I know, but I really want to wear a D.Va spandex suit for an upcoming con. I have no previous experience with spandex/lycra suits and was wondering if I would need to wear certain things under them to prevent weird lines or bumps or whatever. I’m a female. Any tips would be really appreciated!

My mom sold my sewing machine without telling me and now I have a lot to sew by the weekend and low funds. Anyone know of any cheap ways to get access to a sewing machine/if the cheap mini machines are any good??
>>
>>9832328
Mini machines are okay if you just need a straight stitch and the fabric isn't too thick.

Otherwise get the fuck out of that house as soon as you can your mom has a problem and it won't be healthy to stay there. I say this from experience my mom did the same shit.
>>
>>9832328
Search for sew along and maker spaces in your area: at least around here there are often places where you can pay by the hour to use their sewing machines, sergers and workspace, though they're not very well known.
Failing that, you could try explaining the situation on a local cosplay group etc and offer to pay someone for use of their machine for a few hours?
>>
>>9830865
Yeah but in my experience it usually ends up as more of a smile and finger guns from across the room situation than actually awkward, especially in fandoms where bought taobao cosplays are common (lovelive, bnha, snk...)

Definitely post on your local group like >>9832375 suggested. A lot of people only use their machines every once in a while. I'm sure they wouldn't you mind borrowing it for a small fee or even letting you sew at their place.

Kinda like this, right? (not me, just found through image search)
I'm only about 90lbs and I've got one too, it's a pretty normal thing and not really weight related, dont worry. That's just part of where your stomach creases when you bend over, and if you slouch often or spend a lot of time sitting in certain positions it can show up a bit more prominently. It's not really different from a forehead crease/laugh line. On some skin, depending on complexion and skin elasticity it leaves more of a noticeable mark than others. It is more or less permanent (though you can reduce its appearance a teeny bit with stomach toning and hydration) but normal and nothing to be self conscious about at all

How pricey is tenshi's service? I usually use Accio Tokyo and I'm looking for alternatives that will buy from fril
>>
>>9832581
For fril it's going to be 5% of the item price. The tenshishop site has calculators for fees and shipping. You'll want the one under Auction/App shopping.
>>
>>9832455
Her underskirt is from Little Dipper, which is a Taobao brand. If you want that exact underskirt you're going to have to order from China, unless someone happens to be selling it on Lacemarket or a sales group.

That crease is very normal. If you drink water and eat food, you probably have it. Work on some daily light abdominal exercises to really strengthen your muscles, and it can become less prominent.

What are some decent and cheap places to get a catsuit/spandex as a base for this costume?

The first results i get are Athletic shops like Underarmour
>>
>>9834599
there's usually a section of the fabric store (here it's often under the cutting bench) with lots of cheap thin lining fabrics like pic related especially for that purpose. Just ask when you're in the store and anyone should be able to point you to them.
>>
>>9834607
It depends on how cheap you're talking. Places like Zentai-Zentai, LatexCatfish and some dance supply shops sell pretty quality catsuit's for a decent price, and you can send them custom measurements if you're worried about the size and fit.
>>
>>9834607

has anyone else been hit with insane shipping fees from japonica market? just received my final ¥5000 invoice for a light cotton dress and a thin hoodie that apparently exceed 1100g in weight. idk what to do, I’m suspicious that two light clothing items could weigh that much.
>>
>>9835792
Japonica is generally expensive like that. Dresses are heavier than one thinks.
>>
>>9835792
That fee is likely more than just for shipping to you, it likely includes shipping within Japan and service fees. Japonica add these extra fees to the final invoice when your order is complete, and if they're shipping your order via EMS, shipping for dresses tends to be about 2,000 yen, and the weight might include the box as well.
Though admittedly it is a bit odd; I paid almost 7,000 yen to ship my order this morning and I have a lot more stuff in mine which justifies the price, unlike in your case. Might be worth it to look at the calculation that they add to the email they send you about the order, to see how everything adds up.

It just occurred to me, I think I might be growing out of this, and I seriously don't want to.
I mean, it's been ages since I last made a costume, and a long time as well since I last went to a con. I'm wondering, am I getting old? Are my priorities and likes shifting away from this or is it simply lack of habit, that I've been out of this world for too long and that because of that I no longer feel the urge?

The situation is, I'm here, looking to plan a cosplay, and I don't really feel an urge, a real want or passion to make it, even though I want to (the real want referring to a more emotional kind of want, so to speak). Could it be plain laziness at work?
>>
>>9838402
It's the reason I haven't cosplayed Jecht yet, gotta put on muscle first.
Kamina, however, has a fair amount of stuff, accessory and clothing wise, as well as the tattoos, to draw attention away from the lack of muscle, and even then, he's rather lean, all in all, he's no JoJo. I think you can realistically pull it off pretty well even if you're not muscular if the rest is spot on. Go for it.

Ok, guys. So, I want to make a Venom Snake cosplay, but because of my job I can't use my beard or let my hair grow like that. I saw a lot of lace wigs and thought about making my own and fake beard too. Is it hard? Is it worth it? Where should I look for tutorials?

How well do Meta shoes hold up, and are they ok for wider feet? I'm in a pinch and need a new pair of gold shoes, so I was thinking about throwing a pair in with my friend's order, but if I can only squeeze my feet into them for pictures it isn't worth it. I usually wear an 8 W in American sizing.
>>
How do I go about finding someone to commission a prop from? I'm completely detached from the con scene since I don't go to those and have no connections. I know it's far beyond my skill level; it's a sword that has light up components (it's not a lightsaber though)
>>

I don't have a skin condition, but I always wear light garments under my dresses/blouses. A short sleeved tshirt under my blouses/OPs, and always panties/tights under my bloomers. It keeps your fancy dresses much cleaner
>>
>>9839152
How do you feel about your cosplays/the characters you cosplay? That's where most of the want and motivation comes from.
If you're just cosplaying because you're used to it, you do lose the drive.
>>
>>9839669
I might be misunderstanding the question, but whenever I'm going to do a cosplay I just don't make any random thing, I pick something with a design I like aesthetically, that I'd like to wear.
A design that belongs to a character that I know, that I've gone on a journey with, that I understand how he is and I like, that I enjoy the game he's from. You know, the usual.

It's something that takes effort, mostly because the costumes I make tend to be practically entirely from scratch, I can't just buy the parts, so I don't really see a point in making it just because, it's important to me that I really like the character I'm going after, or if it's a non character, that I like the design itself a lot. In a sense I see it as paying homage.
I tend to cosplay solo a lot due to that as well, I want to do something I'm sure I like, not something out of compromise.
I want it to truly mean something to me, it's what I'm saying.
>>
>>9839729
Yeah, so you have the passion/right mindset when cosplaying, but you still find yourself losing the fun in it?

Do you get satisfaction from people recognizing you/talking to you about said-series because you're cosplaying it? Not to say attention is the only reason to cosplay, but it does play into it for some people.
Or do you get more satisfaction just from the process of making it and wearing the finished product?

Lolita sizing question. I know Triple Fortune tends to have generous sizing for dresses and skirts, but what about tights? I haven't heard anything about them, and I ordered some recently with a matching dress. Are they just as generous, or are they for tiny legs? Pic related for what I bought.

Why do so many cosplayers wear flower crowns? I mostly notice it with Voltron cosplayers... is it a character thing? a tumblr/fashion trend I'm unaware of?
>>
>>9839990
I have a little sister who's active in those spheres and I can confirm that she's talked about how flower crowns are meme status, I think on tumblr and instagram, though I'm not sure, I don't know what these kids are into
>>
>>9839990
>>9839996
Oh jeez have we reached that point already? People don't know about flower crowns?

It started with a bunch of shitty edits/filters on Tumblr and Snapchat. Just flower crowns, but people had a tendency to edit them on characters a lot, usually with aesthetic text or some shit as well.
So of course it became a trend to cosplay this kind of thing.
Even though this was quite a few years ago, it still holds up as a trend for the underaged cosplayers.
>>
How frowned upon would it be to wear one of these face masks with a cosplay that doesn't actually have one? I'm insecure about my jaw and nose (they're pretty ugly) so kinda want to wear a plain black one that matches the aesthetic of the character.

Is it considered a dick move to play music from a Bluetooth speaker you keep on your person while on the con floor? Or is it okay under certain circumstances (e.g. Initial D cars) as a gag?
>>

Being asked for photos is always a boost, I'm not going to lie, but the main thing is the latter. The experience and learning of making it is very cool if stressful at times, and seeing yourself in the mirror with something you made with your own hands, after months of work, is certainly a very special feeling.
I really don't enjoy doing it in a group, however, I feel like I'm not in control, that now I have to meet other people's standards and that I have a hard time limit and it's just a stressful process.
It could be due to that that I don't feel the urge now, since my two last cosplays were with groups and the actual meetups were pretty underwhelming. That or lack of habit/laziness.
The group thing is a shame, though, since I had a lot of fun the times I do it on my own, I end up finding a group that's formed at a con, we all join and it's a great time.
>>
>>9840296

How authentic do you want it to be? eBay, Ali and taobao are full of shiny satin "bathrobes", it's fairly easy to find red ones with floral designs. The downside is they're obviously shiny satin and obviously meant to be sold as cheap souvenirs to gaijin tourists, but if all you want is to use it as part of a cosplay it'll do its job well enough.

If you need it to be a real kimono, then ichiroya is the easiest site to find secondhand kimonos. If you're okay with using shopping services, Yahoo!Japan auctions and Rakuten both have pretty huge category of secondhand kimonos (real ones), yja lets you sort them by colour as well. The bonus is the kimono will at least be the proper length, the bathrobe shiny souvenir kimonos tend to be calf length while the real thing is usually ~160cm in length.
>>

I can plop my 60cm on a scale later tonight, but to be honest I think you'd end up paying volumetric weight for the box it's going to be shipped in, those things are kind of bulky.
>>
>>9840337
Hm, what about trying something more challenging? Maybe making something that's above your skill level but still capable to do. Or-- do you have any dream cosplays? The kind of shit you've always wanted to do but for XYZ reasons you couldn't before.
Something like that might bring back the excitement of cosplay for you.
Also, you can try looking into booking a really nice photographer, then you can see the full display of your hard work.

I wish you the best, anon!

Dude doing cosplay for the first time at a con in the fall, I'm gonna go as Caesar Zeppeli, what should I expect from the experience?
>>
>>9840800
Expect being stopped for pics, being stopped for many pics if you look good, and possibly having Jojo memes yelled in your direction. Bring snacks and/or actual food if you can, and plenty of water (and actually drink said water throughout the day), and if you're looking for other Jojo fans, I'd look up the local cosplay comm/Jojo group on FB to see if there's a meetup planned at this con.

Thank you, you've been pretty nice to talk to.
If we're talking about dream cosplays, one that's never left my mind is Solid Snake, but I don't think it's a realistic project, at least not now. Let me ask, when you want to do a cosplay, but don't know what character to do, how do you look for one? Do you make a list of things you like for future reference as you play games, watch media and such or is it better left to be more of an impulse thing? I used to go on impulse, but I think I've lost the momentum I had going before, I'm having a hard time deciding on who I want to cosplay.

Looking for someone who makes custom masks.
I live in the US and would love to commission someone to make a mask (pic related).
I have been wanting to cosplay my own character in an MMO for a while now and I think now is a good time to start trying to piece it all together.
>>
>>9841208
I personally don't involve myself much outside of what the hobby involves. This is in no way the way everyone is, but generally I've met rather strange girls, one used to randomly bite me in the arms for no reason. And not playfully, but hard, and out in the open in the middle of a con.
Shit's super weird. I don't know what is it about cons that brings out the crazy in people.
Pay attention to how they behave and if you get the slightest hint of crazy, be careful or just leave.

>Let me ask, when you want to do a cosplay, but don't know what character to do, how do you look for one?
For me personally, I either look at characters I've liked in media I've already watched/played, or I just focus more on whatever media I'm currently consuming. The lens of a cosplayer is a bit different from just simply "I like their design!" I have to pay much more attention to what would look good on me, how to make things, etc. And then from there, I start planning a cosplay. It is pretty fun when you find a detail/prop that you know you have the vague knowledge of construction, but haven't actually done anything like it before.
Impulse cosplays are less fulfilling since it feels like making something just so I have a new cosplay to wear, at least for me.
>>
>>9841128
Do you already know how to sew anon? What level of skill are you starting out with?
>>
>>9841331
Be prepared for multiple people to either stop and ask what anime you're cosplaying from, or mistaking your costume being from some random or obscure anime that you've never heard of.
Or you may get completely ignored. If none of these possibilities bothers you then go for it.

How do you maintain a ringlet wig and keep it looking nice? Mine is getting frizy as shit
>>
>>9839861
I'm not the best responder probably as I'm not very tall (only 160cm) and not overly heavy (53kg), though my legs are a bit muscular from my job and they aren't as cute and skinny as I'd ideally like. When I did a pic of all my legwear my TF tights were noticablely longer than my other JP tights, so maybe they'd be better for slightly taller people. At the same time though the designs are so precisely printed that they don't stretch well at all. My lighter tights work better, the dark parts are less significant so it's not as noticable that the print is stretched, but I actually ended selling up my darker ones because the stretching thinned out the color too much imo.

So tl;dr, depends on the tights. Darker ones are better on skinnier legs. I'd just try them on and see how you feel with the ones you bought. TF tights are of decent enough rarity that you can probably sell them for what you bought if you think they thin out too much.

I feel a bit silly not knowing this already, but hey that's what this thread is for right?

I normally avoid longer cut skirts as I feel they make me look too short, 5'3" here, but I'm trying to tell myself that I'll look alright with heels as I'm really eyeing the End of Immortal Eden skirt on LM. Since I've never actually looked into it, is there a good petti out there for longer skirts that isn't too volumous and not brand?

And since worn thread is dead, does anyone even have a picture of the skirt worn? Strangely hard to find. Or even a picture of another shorter busty girl with a longer skirt coord. I keep worrying the skirt will look terrible on me since I'm not a tall thin model type body and instead short and busty...

>The lens of a cosplayer is a bit different from just simply "I like their design!" I have to pay much more attention to what would look good on me, how to make things, etc.
Of course, don't worry, I'm aware of that. I'm not just going to pick up the first thing I see, I have to take into account if it's realistic for me to make it and have it look good and if it's compatible with my body type and face. Talking of which I should practice my makeup skills.

How skinny do I need to be to cosplay Seto Kaiba? I'm shedding weight, and cosplaying is something I'm using as a target for when I've made it.
