Ok time to use this thread now i guess. That secret about Briz is sp ficking accurate. I talked to her the first 2 days at sakura con not even knowing who the fuck she was until i saw someone tag her on twitter. Lay off the damn shoop girl! You dont even look that bad in person but you are fucking unrecognizable irl compared to the potos you post online!
>>9845540This is also true about the 2 ''efamous'' girls in my comm. One of them is more popular than the other, but they are known for their coord photos. Their faces look really gross irl because of how much make-up they use.
>>9845546Pls sneak a pic for us next time anon! I live for online vs irl comparisons!
>>9845567No, they're really nice and actually deserve the praise they get for their coords
Sometimes I really wish japanese lolitas would join Lacemarket. Even if they'd just buy, that would be okay too.
>>9845587they don't speak english and hate international shipping. same reason a lot of europeans buy+sell on facebook instead of lacemarket.
>>9837624Look at this glorious classic master race photo. My heart clenches to see this. VM please stay alive, or VM designers please make a brand like this afterwards.
>>9845540From the Motie fashion show
what is the max height for grimoire tights? would 173cm with thin legs fit?
Why do Western lolitas blame the Chinese for more OTT brand releases? I spent 4 days in China and already saw more casual lolitas than I've seen in my own comm in the past 5 years.
>>9845651Chinese buying habits are not indicative of Chinese sense of style, as weird as that is to say.
>>9845568Then why are you here talking shit about how gross they look irl?
>>9845656because it was relevant to the conversation. saying something on anon about someone anon isn't the same as posting someone from your comm.
>>9845656>'They are nice and have good coords' Why won't you post them???They told you Janice, now gtfo
>>9845611To be fair, she looked better in real life
>>9845590So does everyone. Sort by continent, not that hard.
>>9845611Are there any other talented Mexlitas who just don't sell themselves as hard as Briz and that's why we don't know about them?
>>9845888What ever happened to Nadia the bodyline winner? Wasn't she Mexican?
>>9845563Interesting. I always thought it was unfair to make international customers pay tax to a country they aren't receiving benefits from. Plus when you buy in store, if you have your passport, you don't have to pay taxes (if they offer it, not all stores will fill out the paperwork). I generally avoid buying anything in Harajuku for this reason (they usually don't offer tax free).
>>9845601So much glorious VM. I wish we could have big VM meet ups like this in the west.
>>9846004There's going to be a Rococo Bouquet meetup soon and I'm excited for the photos.
>>9846014I am insanely jealous and i want to go.
Anyone know of anywhere I can get a custom lace/chiffon overdress/peignoir?
>>9846041I am even more jealous of those who can see the press room. I had wanted to see it once in my life, at least. But it looks like these meet-ups are happening quite a bit, so who knows, you might be able to attend one day!
Am I the only one who thinks it's weird that sfe announces their new event without any specific information like the date, guests or location at the same day as the eternal twilight ticket sale?
>>9845844if you're italian and don't speak english why would you want anyone from another country to find your sales?
>>9846000In my country there are only some really big department stores that offer tax free>>9846251I didn't realise that it was the same day, but now I think it's very rude of them
Will we ever get a "search auction only" function on Lacemarket? Or would that be too hard to code?
My dream dress/the single dress that got me into lolita which is rarely put up for sale in the cut and colourway I want, is up for sale. Problem is, I'm not able to spend money right now.Already has people bidding on it though, so I can't wait to buy it when I have money. Guess it's time to let it go.What is this crippling sadness that I feel?
>>9846252You're right. I forgot they don't actually update LM to prevent people from buying if they live in another country and the seller doesn't ship internationally or to add language support.
What Taobao brands are known for making replica prints so I can avoid them?
>>9845651because you probably won't see the people with the money who prefer the outlandish collections on the street. they're not daily lolitas, they're special event lolitas.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-e1_VQXzQVs
>>9846251I also found this really weird. Why couldn’t they just wait until tomorrow with announching they will announche more on the 18th of April.
>>9846310I can't think of any legit brands that made replicas other than kidsyoyo back in the day. if you see replicas these days that's a good indicator right away that the shop has nothing good to offer so it's right to move on.>I'm a snob though so I only really follow good TB
>>9846325That's not snobby that's actually pretty true and accurate.
>>9846324Maybe they wanted Mana as their guest. I also don't get why sfe announced it today after nearly a year of silence. Makes me wonder what happend with sfe.
>>9846251I don't get what is even the point of such an announcement, it's not even a “save the date“, for what do they need 10 more days?
>>9845888What's with all the Briz shade? There was stuff about it in the Sakuracon thread. I don't know much about what she's done other than GLW but I thought she was pretty nice and approachable in real life when I met her.
>>9846365Search the archives. She bought likes for a meta coord contest. She works with the leighs.
>>9846368Briz doesn't work for the Leighs. You're confusing her with Danelle.
>>9837624I know MM isn't dead yet, but I'd love a big MM event too...Hardly see any Japanese girls wear it too.
>>9846272Anon, just get a credit card and just pay it off slowly, then once it's paid cancel the card. The Paypal Credit option also lets you have 6 months to pay the purchase interest free.I don't recommend unless it is a really rare item that never pops up for sale and always has heavy competition, so in your case I think you should take advantage of these options.
>>9846375I think she does works with the Leigh’s too, how come she ended up modelling for GLW just like all Daniela’s friends. She also has gone to AM and has openly supported the con.
>>9846561I'm so confused. Wasn't she supposed to be a lawyer? Why is she working for the leighs now?
>>9846561Briz has openly said that she boycotts AM/Leighs. Please don't mix Daniela and Briz up.
>>9846533I'm very afraid to, as I'm petrified of debt/overdrafts (which I am somewhat in already: student loans)I guess I'll just keep an eye out. Maybe whoever buys it will end up selling it on.
>>9846310the majority of them steal, maybe not by making replica prints but by using images they found online
>>9846368She doesn't work for the Leigh's and she's been open about boycotting AM. If she ever modeled for them or attended, it must have been way before people spoke up about the sexual harrasment.
>>9846584sounds like you definitely shouldn't buy it then. be responsible and don't go into more debt
>>9846533opening a line of credit only to cancel the card soon after is a good way to destroy your credit breh
>>9846567Then why has she gone in previous years and when called out she defended Anime Matsuri?
>>9845611Maybe she suffers from atopic dermatitis. Not so much to do about it since skincare just dries out the skin and moisturizers that aren't on recipe aren't hydrating enough for eczema.
>>9846727that's a different person
>>9846567I’m friends with her on fb, she says she boycotts am because that’s where the trend train is moving, she just hops and does whatever other people does in order to look cool. What the other anon said is true, when she went 2 or 3 years ago, after Choke and Buttcape spoke up, she was called out and she dm’d the girl about it asking her to stop drawing attention to that issue.Daniela is the one who married for a green card and sucks John dick, I got that, but Briz sucks everyone else’s dick.https://youtu.be/WxSMF4Takhk
>>9846727She only went once. You're confusing her with Daniela.
>>9846738yes of course I totally believe everything you say without caps, this is enough to open a lolcow thread about her
>>9846598Yeah definitely not going to go into more debt haha. Just sadposting because I've been searching for this dress for a long time (it was even rereleased, but I assumed it'd be sold for cheap second hand after the rerelease) and it's something I've wanted to own for ages.I guess when I get the funds to buy it I'll start making my home in the dream dress thread and slowly become as iconic as meta telephone anon.
>>9845611Idk. I think she looks fine. A lil red in the face but who isint?
>>9845611I find her e-shilling annoying but she looks pretty decent in this picture. I prefer it to her usual shooped uncanny valley pics. Her makeup looks nice and sure, she has lines under her eyes, but so do a lot of people over 20ish. Not really sure what the issue is, she doesn't have acne or anything.
>>9846806Anon what is it allready? I am so curious and now i want to know to help you out. Maybe someone has it and will do a payment plan for you? Or win the auction and hold it for you like we've done for other anons here?
>>9846932I cant speak for other anons, but i agree, she isnt bad looking in person. I jist wish she wouldnt shoop herself to hell and back. The fact that people couldn't tell who she was in person because she shoops herself so much in pictures, her real self is completely unrecognizable.
>>9846365I met her at SakuraCon for the MmM tea party & she was actually very sweet and the least snotty person there. She looked like she was wanting to talk to the other Lolitas but I think die-hard Moitie fans weren't wanting to socialize with her (maybe because of her reputation?) Won't lie though she looked a bit overwhelming in her OTT getup.
>>9846903Yeah. It's a super close up photo. Not everyone's skin is going to look flawless. Most skin has some sort of texture. God knows mine would look terrible.
>>9847027She really looked like a child pageant contestant with her rattlesnake sceptor and how she was waving as she entered the area where other attendees were waiting.
>>9847027Die-hard moitie fan here, and im socially anxious as fuck and dont talk to people i dont know unless they approach me first. She looked kind of riddiculous and out of place i.m.o. but she didn't look bad. Im not snobby or anything im just really shy and am afraid to drop my spaghetti all over the place in front of strangers(or worse of all Mana)
>>9846310Probably important to remember that when the taobao brands started trickling into lolita, the replica debate hadn't happened yet, so it was still ok to make them for sale. Way back then taobao brands generally fell into either replica makers or cheap weird costume makers, so if the taobao brand you're looking at is old enough it's usually one of this two.Old taobao replicators off the top of my head:Momo & Jia - copied AP and Baby dressesKidsyoyo - replicated several dressesSecret Shop -- replicas of AP OTKsDream of Lolita - several low quality replicasAmastacia - Marie Rose jskYolanda - a floral jsk from either VM or MMRose Melody - copied a defunct indie brandTanaka - CDC, Rosa BiancaMilu Forest -- this one is annoying because there's still newbies that turn up in A/P's MND without knowing it's a replica and then getting upset when someone lets them know.Dear Celine -- blouse trimmed with replica Milky-chan lacelaces.taobao.com -- this entire shop is almost built around replicating burando lace. Not a definitive list, sorry. I forget who made the Miracle Candy and Sugar Hearts replicas. Also HMHM has made replicas but I don't remember which.Nowadays most of the taobao brands go for cheap printing and make print dresses.
>>9847072the fuck are you talking about lol. the replica debate has been around since the beginning of time. maybe you were in one of those ita comms where they were okay?
>>9847072If we're going back in time, didn't F+F replicate some MM dresses and coats too?
>>9847151Try pre 2010. Old lj entries talking about side-by-side comparisons with replicas should be enough proof for you. You could also try looking for the actual egl announcement that replicas will be banned, but I don't remember when that came out.>>9847154Yesssss. F+F pretty much started out as a costume shop, not a lolita brand. They were actually known for a lot of shady shit. An indie designer contracted them to sew clothes that she then put up for sale in her own shop, which is pretty normal business practice. F+F then went ahead and put her designs up in their own shop and undercut her prices. Basically screwing over their business customer. It led to a boycott for a little while, but apparently the poorfag itas still buy F+F and Bodyline, even though Bodyline is another shop with a shady past -- they not only copied brand, but apparently half of their not-burando-replica designs are actually ripped off from Japanese artists, it's just because of the language barrier that nobody in the West knows they did this shit. Someone once linked a (Japanese) database that showed where almost every one of Bodyline's designs were ripped from on egl, might still be there is you can be arsed to search for it.
>>9847189Nayrt but I’ve been into lolita since 2005 and in my comm and partially on egl, replicas have been frowned upon from the beginning. Just because itas posted about buying them and the egl mods were too pussy to ban them (muh inclusivity) doesn’t mean replicas were universally accepted at any point. The main reason taobao initially had a shit reputation in my comm was because so many of the ~Chinese indies~ on it were known as replica makers.
>>9847020It's royal library in green - corset version. I really should have bought it at rerelease time. I would ask the seller if they're open to payment plans but once someone's bid on it, they have to let the auction run its course. Thank you for thinking of me though
http://www.fyeahlolita.com/p/lolita-glossary.htmlAre there any lolita glossary in other languages? I can only find this one, but when I look for one in Spanish, French or German I just get Nobakov stuff.
new Physical Drop
>>9847197I didn't say they were universally loved, though? Precisely because they weren't banned, it seemed okay to produce them for sale, and taobao brands did. It’s a minor detail that seemed important. A lot of taobao brands made replicas when they seemed profitable, and then stopped when egl banned them and the tide of opinions in the replica debate started turning overwhelmingly towards the anti-replica side.Yes, it’s an old list of replicas, most of which aren’t even available anymore. But it does well to remind newbies that there are still people like you and me who remember taobao for being rampant replicamakers that only stopped when egl put a replica ban in place. It’s not ancient history if I can still remember it, I’m not even grandma-aged yet.
>>9847318''the replica debate hadn't happened yet'' just admit you're wrong or don't reply, it's not that hard
>>9845546There are some girls in my comm that won't let anyone else take their pics because they shoop so much. It's fucking ridiculous and they're not even e-famous.
What normie brands do you recommend for a sweet lolita?I'm not looking for loliable clothes in normie shops, I want things I can wear on days that I don't want to (or can't) wear a cupcake shaped skirt. Having a cohesive wardrobe is really important to me, so I've been struggling to find normie things that fit in with the high-quality and cuteness of my current sweet lolita wardrobe.
>>9847331I would love to hear about some cute high quality brands! Anything that isn't Japanese brands (higher quality, but expensive)or taobao (cheap and bad quality) seems to forget that some adults like pastels. That moschino sweater is out of my price range, but something more or less like Missguided or Lazy Oaf would be ok
>>9847219I think I saw one in Spanish but it was cringy
>>9847342I bought that Moschino sweater secondhand for 80 euro! But most of their stuff is not as cute.
>>9847328Not for this reason, but I also don't want my comm members to take my pictures because they can't tell a good picture from a bad one and they all will go up to the group page on Facebook.
>>9847345lol same. There are a few girls in my comm who like to designate themselves as the meetup photographer but they’re absolute shit at taking pictures. Awful lighting, shaky hands, and too impatient to wait for people to pose so nearly every pic someone is still talking or fixing their dress or has their eyes closed. Their candids are even worse and they seem to prefer taking pictures of people as they’re eating or mid-sneeze. When one of these girls is running around with a camera I avoid them like the plague. There are some truly beautiful girls in my comm but they managed to photograph them looking like Quasimodo. And posted it on a semi-public page without first checking with the people in the pics if they’re okay with that. I’d half think they’re doing it on purpose.
>>9847331Listen Flavor?Ocean in Space?
>>9847348>I’d half think they’re doing it on purpose.Same, anon. I really think they might be at this point. Surely they can't just be that oblivious that they are making cute girls look terrible.

>>9847263oh my goodness yes I need this right now
>>9847322I still think the definitive moment where the tide of opinions against replica makers was when girls realised that both IW and AP were putting dresses on sale that replica-makers already sold out of, plus DoL made a replica of Little Bears' Cafe, which nobody even wanted, which is what I'm referencing, as that sparked a lot more heated debate than before.Still, I get what you mean. Next time I'll pick a more concrete event we don't have to argue over, such as the moment egl banned replicas.

>>9848246I noticed it just last night myself. I suppose it is since yeah, it's empty but there's definitely from "plus size" friendly pieces on the site.
>>9848211Do you have better examples?
>>9848211I know some of them that I listed have not as great quality. I dont have experience with every single one. Garment quality is kind of hit or miss imho for LF. I've had some shirts from them that are extremely thin they are sheer so I have to wear a slip with them which is annoying, but their anniversary shirts were a nice thick cotton. I dont know why the inconsistency.I dont love /everything/ lazy oaf but I do like some of it. The pieces I have own are fairly well constructed and definitely above fast fashion quality. I'm not worried about them falling apart anytime soonI'm happy with everything PUNYUS I've purchased. Dream V is hit or miss but some of their skirts are my favorite in my wardrobe. Maxicimam is actually nice despite their stock photos being garbage. A lot of their pieces are made in Japan.
>>9848169>discussing D Walkure>in the current yearDidn't we have enough of a shitstorm when it was released?
>>9848282Imo it's not an issue unless they're obviously copying a brand design like AP's characters, or including brand logos or acronyms. Looks like they have some pretty nice stuff, honestly.
>>9846427Me too! MM is so rarely worn nowadays...
>>9848312>>9848282It's one of the grayest copying I've seen to date imo.If you own original AP you can see they copied the donut or candy, not as in "generic donut" or "generic candy", but line for line, exact shape, exact drawing. The only thing they leave out is the AP logo. So I guess it's not a replica in that it's not trying to pass itself off as the original, and candies and donuts aren't really copyrightable, but to have them copied line for line is kinda obvious it's exactly copied from brand lace, not their own original creation and not a generic clipart. The stars and dot laces are even more of a grey area. No one can ever say an arrangement of dots and stars and scallops is copyrighted to one specific brand, they're way too generic and there's only so many ways to arrange them, so I would have said these aren't replicas. Just to help you along, though, the sales pages on this shop helpfully show you a closeup of the dress it's copied from. So while I'd say some of it doesn't even look like replicas the shop itself seems to really push the "our lace looks exactly like burando lace" angle.
>>9847331I would just go for related brands. Leur Getter, ETC, Jane Marple, and other soft lolita, "otome" brands or similar stuff.Non-lolita shoes are the hardest. DreamV, RTBU, Irregular Choice shoes are the easiest to find lolita stuff in, but they're all more or less taobao-tier, and taobao is well, taobao-tier. Melissa shoes sometimes has a colour and style that matches sweet lolita, but it really depends on what comes out for that season. In a pinch, I'd suggest buying white shoes of whatever favorite brand and then using Angelus or Flora paint to paint them pink/lavender/blue. If you need orthopedic shoes this is probably a better option.
>>9845540Who is Briz?

>>9848170I'd like to add fancy surprise. The illustrations really get me in the sweet lolita/yumekawaii mood I love. By the way, does anyone know everything about Swimmer's illustrators? Are they doing anything by themselves?
>>9848447>not looking for loliable clothesActually. Soft lolita and otome brands are notorious for being strangely tricky to properly lolita up. Jane Marple in particular tends to have very narrow skirts that won’t fit a petti. LG has a cami jsk cut in half their releases, that looks like ass if your petti is too big, and it’s pretty short to boot. Secondhand ETC is an even tossup whether it looks good with petti or looks like ass. Most of these I’d actually recommend wearing without a petticoat, it tends to look better. So right there is your non-cupcake everyday wear. In fact, if she’d requested loliable things I would have suggested staying away from otome brands unless she can figure out what it looks like with a petticoat under it.They’re just useful because their aesthetic and maybe inspiration is pretty close to lolita, so quite often you can find similar motifs and colours to keep your wardrobe cohesive in.

Sometimes I just want to wear a tight skirt or slacks, but still be covered in lace/ruffles/sweets. Unfortunately, most normie brands focus on minimalism and exotic prints.

I'm US based and sending a dress to Canada. Do Canadians get hit with customs fees? True value of the dress is 65 bucks, I just don't wanna put that down on the customs form if it'll fuck over the other person.
>>9849816I think it's easiest to ask the buyer (if you still have time to do that). I just know in Europe they get hit with customs for anything above 22 euro or something.
I wonder how many people own brand yukatas? I can't seem to find many pictures of them worn. I have 2 that I would love to wear out, but never have, but i always see them akin to my more elaborate dresses, or fancy/formal wear and dont have much of an opportunity to wear them out. Do you guys treat them the same way or are they just the same as the rest of your brand dresses/items? Do you ever wear brand yukatas out casually or out on the daily? What are peoples reactions? Or are they the same as any other time youve worn out brand/lolita?
>>9849816Is the package insured? >>9849961>There's they hold from canceled ordersquestioning my english right now because i don't understand your comment
I don't know if Japonica tries to play dumb or if their english is just bad. There's a deposit they hold from canceled orders but they mentioned it nowhere in the final invoice. I told them about it but they literally just replied "hi! the invoice is correct. the invoice is simple."I mean the deposit amount is not much but it's still bothering me.
>>9849962He is happy
>>9849904Do you have any example coords? Are they in cutesy designs like brand ones are? What ethnicity are you? I'm really tanned hispanic. I guess I'm just self-conscious? I guess it's dumb since i regularly wear AP sweet in my daily life so I shouldnt be concerned.
>>9849964pssht anon, I have no idea what you're talking about.
>>9849967I'm white and I have a solid yukata in pink and one ''proper'' kimono with butterflies. I personally feel like I'm making it more into a costume if I look for a special occassion to wear it, it doesn't bother me when other people ask or comment about what I wear though.
Is anyone else having problems with lacemarket pop ups? I'm on mobile and it's impossible to shop I don't know what to do.
>>9849974yeah me too. i actually hate lm but i have to look for my dream dress every day.
>>9849965They use the extra deposit money against the commission and shipping cost, if that's what you mean.
>>9849967We've had kimono "coord" generals before, maybe check the archives?
>>9850003Yes but they didn't and claim they did.
>>9849965>>9850008I stopped using japonica and only use fromjapan now. You can use them for fril purchases and pretty much everywhere.
>>9849975I'm not sure if you know but you can set up email notifications for search terms on LM.
>>9850012I know, but my dream dress has a very generic name.
>>9849965You don't get it back. They use it to pay the domestic shipping costs and fees and offset your shipping. If you don't have any cancelled orders, the shipping and fees with them will be fucking huge
>>9850033Well okay not entirely true, I once got some of it back since I had overpaid by enough. But usually I end up having to pay extra still for shipping
>>9850011Can't use fromjapan for mercari.>>9850033Yes, that's what they supposed to do but again, they didn't. They charged the full international shipping, fees and domestic shipping. I have 2 canceled orders but they didn't calculate that into the final invoice. I mentioned that and got the reply I quoted.
>>9849816Officially you need to pay taxes and tarrifs if you make a purchase over 20 but the limit is 60 if it's a gift. I always get hit by customs if it's EMS regardless of how much it's worth.
>>9850049Japonica got some new employees since they were overrun with orders. Maybe the employee just missed it. I would hassle them with screenshot until they give you your money back. Their english is wonky at times so hopefully it's just a misunderstanding.
>>9850116Canadian customs seem pretty weirdly inconsistent about enforcement. I've only ever got hit on one package and it was from Australia. Anything from Japan or China comes through no problem.
>>9849909I've had no issue. You just need the sender to open a case, because obviously they know what was inside and insured it for that value.

>>9849816>>9849903Ive recently been getting hit on almost all my orders from the USA. I ordered a sweatshirt once that was $30 USD and had to pay $2 on actual customs, and then a $10 handling fee. It was ridiculous. My items from Asia usually go undetected if its under $200. USA however... I havent avoided them for a long time.
>>9850343I recommended like a completely different Shopping service. Ever heard of reading comprehension?
This is a mistake, right? I tried to email them anymore it but hoping there wasn't an overnight shipping option or something I accidentally hit. Ordered from Iw once before and shipping was fine, normal EMS prices

>>9849895If you wear that, you're a weeb.
>>9851405News flash: we're all weebs.
>>9851377I saw this and had a hearty, horrified laugh. The fact people looked at those images and thought "a trucker lolita!" says a lot about how dumb the community has become.

>>9851377Im not in the lolita humour group so I didnt see this unfold in real time. A good laugh was had this episode
>>9851416Not to mention the people referring to this scum as a "she".
>>9849895I own two yukatas, but I want a brand one too. You're supposed to wear them to festivals when it's hot outside, so I usually wear in summer. It's essentially a casual kimono you can sweat in. I'm not very good at it, but I want to get better at tying my obi into cute bows and shapes. I also enjoy styling my hair and using hair accessories. I only receive compliments, but I live in Japan and I dress well. If I was visiting my family in the west I would only wear it to summer festivals dedicated to Japanese culture.
>>9851405My mom wears haori because she likes bold colours and patterns. She's a weirdo but she's never watched or listened to anything Japanese in her life. Kimono brands are disappearing in Japan, it's sad.
>>9851409a lot of girls that wear lolita are into it because of historical costume dramas or something and they don't give a shit about Japan.
>>9851524I wanted black, but not like that! Are there any candy stripers who wear black and white? I don't get this one
Does anyone know what's causes the smell of second hand clothes from Japan? At first I thought it was from dry cleaning but most of the clothes smell like that. It's a bit of a musty smell so I think it's from storage and the environment in Japan. I air dry my clothes with a scentless detergent and they smell like nothing so I don't think it's from just air drying. It also doesn't have that floral smell most detergents have. Whenever I smell it it reminds me of brand.
>>9851626I want to know, too. I love that smell. I reminds me a bit of shampoo? I might be a common detergent scent from Japan though.
>>9851626>>9851630I think it's the detergent. I lived there for a few months and after returning to the US I noticed that my clothes had the same sweet appley scent. I was just noseblind when I was there.
>>9851626>>9851630What I usually smell is tatami. Not detergent.
>>9851560somehow I doubt that cause even the hardcore classic no print historical themed lolitas I know are all into weebshit to an extent
>>9851638when i wash my clothes in the blue oxiclean they come out smelling like second hand brand
>>9851416>>9851539I’m assuming these are the same kind of people on RC who think that referring to menstruation as a female issue is “too gendered”
>>9851643Maybe you're in a weeby comm or you're american
>>9851661I think you're more likely the outlier in a less weeby comm.
>>9851666I mean, how many of the people in your comm do you actually know? I never go to meets, nor do my friends, becauss the people there tend to be kind of weird and geeky. I know we're the majority though, because the average comm meet has the same 10-15 people attending whereas there are hundreds of lolitas here.
>>9851646How is that too gendered? I will never understand their logic. Female literally means the sex that can produce eggs. If you can't produce eggs, you're not female. Why is this hard to understand?
>>9851661I'm not in a comm though
I'm in the market for a new petticoat. I can't seem to find any reviews on brand petticoats that aren't on egl (and with broken photobucket images). Does anyone have any photos wearing an IW petticoat and an AP petticoat for comparison?
Sorry this is off topic, does anyone know what's going on with 4chan?
>>9851638God I love that tatami smell.
>>9851717I found Alyssiumbaby's petticoat review pretty useful in regards to AP petticoats: http://www.alyssiumbaby.com/petticoat-review/I personally own an AP soft tulle petticoat and their organdy petticoat (no IW though), so if you have any further questions feel free. In general, brand petticoats don't actually seem to be that poofy so if you're more into maximum poof I'd say look into the other well known petticoat brands.
>>9851626I've had that smell attached to new shit like toys from UFOs and such when they've come from private parties, so I'd wager it's environmental. The tatami anon's probably right, or it's got something to do with the humidity there and how things can get musky/near mold smelling depending on length of exposure in a home.
You know what, since there's potential petti discussion - does anyone know a good minimal poof petti? Smallest poof ones I have are CP's two dailies for each shape but even them for some simple classic items they're too much. I hear about Malco Mode's Zooey, but is that more minimal poof? I'm headed to Japan in May, should I aim for getting a secondhand brand one in CC if they're really that un-poofy?
From zit stained romantic cat to zit stained kiss me cat. There's more than one damage pic of zit stains too which makes it all the more horrifying
>>9851777The Zooey is great for more casual A-line poof. I really love mine.
>>9851897WASH YOUR CLOTHESWASH YOU LIFEYOU NASTY BITCHES
>>9851777They aren't that low poof anon.
>>9851643Im not so much a weeb except the anime shit that was played on saturday morning cartoons like tokyo mew mew and sailor moon as a kid. Pkkemon also came out when i was in kindergarten. I love japanese kawaii culture/ food and fashion, but i found lolita through my love of historical fashion and discovered japanese culture through that rather then the other way around like a lot of other weeblitas i know.
>>9851717And Romeo has the best cupcake petticoats
>>9851777For low poof I like to buy cheap organza pettis off Amazon. They're still soft and comfy, they give the right shape for classic and it's ~10$
>>9851626I think it's a combination of the detergents they use there that are SUPER scented and the humidity. When I went there all of the second hand stores smelled like that and when I got back home, the clothes I took with me and had washed there also smelled the same.
>>9851777I bought a daily a-line on a taobao shop called Candy Rainbow and it's good for low poof. The downside is it's very scratchy so bloomers or tights are a must under it.
Does your comm have a discord? Would you want one for your comm? I think the threshold to post on facebook is higher than on a forum/cgl/discord, so a lot of people in our comm are lurkers.
>>9852126My comm has one. Its nice for setting up casual get togethers and splitting orders and such. It also helps to weed out the lurkers.
>>9852126Our comm and sister comm have them but they're pretty dead aside from the usual people posting. Most still just join and lurk.
>>9852144>>9852134Maybe it's because our comm facebook group also has a lot of rules about what you can and can't post
>>9852150Nayrt, our fb group has very few rules as to what can be posted and people still hesitate to post; when lurkers do post they beg to not be chewed out for daring to interact with us, which is strange because our comm is very friendly. People are odd sometimes.
>>9852150We don't have a lot of rules on fb so I doubt you're actually in my comm
>>9852151I used to be a lurker myself and I think a discord is more ''casual'' than facebook so it's much easier to interact than on facebook. But our comm doesn't have a discord so Idk.>>9852169Why would you even think that?
>>9852177Nope. Northeast US comm>>9852178See >>9852150They said "our" which I interpreted as them thinking I was in the same comm as them

>>9852229To summarise, the secrets this week was ; clair, nazis and chronic illness. Must I say the comments section is cancer too.
>>9852151It's the same in my comm. Many first-time posters are either super conciliatory and apologetic as if they expect us to bite their head off, or they're obnoxious and cry bully when people reply politely but forget to sprinkle their post with heart emojis. I suspect that the obnoxious ones run back to wherever most newbies/lurkers come from (cosplay or general weeb groups?) and whine about how the horrible lolitas were so mean to them, like how dare we tell them that the Milanoo maid costume they linked is not really lolita, or that buying from Taobao through an SS is often cheaper than resellers, or that secondhand brand can be pretty affordable! I thought lolitas were supposed to be luvelies!!!1
>>9852252I actually got told off by mods when I started posting in my comm for the first time, so I don't blame newbies for being scared. We have ''topics'' as if it's a forum, and you have to post a comment in there instead of making your own post. But when you're new, you don't know about the existence of a lot of topics because you have to scroll down A LOT to see all of them.
>>9852266My comm page works the same, but I’ve never seen anyone being told off for not posting in the appropriate thread unless they kept doing it after being redirected multiple times. I’ve often seen mods and regular members respond like>Hey it so happens we have a thread for this, check it out! :) [link]and the OP gets super defensive and acts like they’re being picked on for no reason. Isn’t it helpful to know that there is already an ongoing discussion on your subject? Most of these topics are still decently active too so it’s not like they’re being indirectly told to stfu.I wonder how people like this are/were able to function in school, much less wear lolita out in public where actually rude comments from strangers are par for the course.
>>9852329In my case, someone commented on my post ''you can't post this here'' and a mod send me a PM to say I should post it in x topic (which took a while to find because it wasn't active). It wasn't a big deal, but I was still surprised since I read all the rules and stuff before posting.
US seller here, first time shipping a parcel to an Aussie buyer. USPS just quoted me ~50 dollars for the slowest method (first class) with tracking, and that's not even insured. I checked again online and it looks like as long as I print and pay online I can get free delivery confirmation for ~30, registered mail is what would bump it up to ~50.Experienced sellers, does that sound right to you? Are there any better methods for shipping to Australia?
I'm very eh about Facebook comms. It feels like the same topic gets posted over and over again. Everyone acts overtly formal or try too hard to sound friendly and non threatening. I guess I just find them very boring is all. There's no culture and there's no fun.
>>9852467the culture is acting boring and unthreatening
>>9847263I really wanted to get this but I hate the how they always elasticise the waist and sleeves. It just feels like lazy tailoring to me. The red serging looks cheap as hell too.
>>9852437What are you checking prices through? If you use paypal shipping it always quotes you the cheapest possible shipping at each weight through USPS.
>>9852437Austanon here, unfortunately $50USD sounds about right for a dress. That’s what Angelic Pretty US quoted me last order. I ordered a pair of earrings from a US Etsy seller and it was $25USD for postage.
>>9852531>red sergingYikes, you're right! I didn't even look at it up close until you pointed it out, but that looks like absolute garbage.
>>9852467That's because there's no anonymity.
>>9851666>>9851643 I'd like to go to meets, but young weebs complain incessantly that going to a decent place for tea or dinner or to see a show is too expensive, and god forbid you have a meet at a museum where they don't like 20 minutes of taking selfies before they want to leave and go get bubble tea. I know a lot of people who share my opinion, and prefer to lonelita. The weebs are usually the louder more sociable types, so they dominate public meetups - and off-put the more reserved people from showing up.
>>9852538I checked at the post office and also the USPS website. I'll see what PayPal quotes me, thanks!>>9852553Okay, thank you! Man, I totally understand why Aussie lolis hate shipping fees now.
>>9848338I'm trying so hard to wear it but it's also so hard to find...
>>9852266Is it really so difficult to explore the community you're about to post in, before you post? >weh I have to scroll down and READYou realize how pathetic this sounds, right? Expecting new members to look around before they post whatever they want is not irrational.
>>9851952Do you ever feel lonely or isolated in your comm for not sharing all the hardcore weeb hobbies?I thought I was a weeb but I really don't care about most newer anime, I don't cosplay or go to cons and don't obsessed over idols, real or anime. Sometimes I feel like I have nothing to talk about or add to the conversation at meets and even if we talk about something different for a bit it always goes back to cons, cosplay etc...
>>9852618I feel this, except it’s not a poorly dressed comm. mostnof the lolitas are obsessed with love live and sailor moon. Personally I didn’t care for it nor do I like of those fandoms. But the meets are all like social fests about talking of those shows. It’s stopped going to meets because of that. I was unable to communicate with the community memsbers because I didn’t like either of those two things and didn’t want to watch them to be a part of their conversations. So I could either sit there looking cute and bored off my frilly ass or go and do something alone with my partner and enjoy myself.
>>9837624I was walking with my bf at Japan fest Houston and we see this girl walking with her husband and baby. She was wearing a black floral gi or something. I tell my bf that she looks ridiculous walking around like that and he said that he thought that she was pretty! It pissed me off that he would openly comment on another girl like that in front of me so i told him that. He walked up to her and asked what she thought about my dress and she said i was really pretty and she liked my outfit and that she liked the "whole lolita look". We held a small conversation and she was really nice. But it pisses me off she made me look bad and she didnt have try.....
>>9852749>>9852753Nayrt but same here. With every upcoming meet I pray that there will be someone else who also isn't super into the newest flavor of the month anime, Love Live or cosplay so at least I'll have one person to talk to (or exchange confused glances with across the table) while the others talk about those subjects. I don’t mind people talking about subjects I’m not interested in but it does get very lonely when it’s the only thing they’ll talk about for a long time and I can’t participate at all. One meetup I got stuck awkwardly staring into space/at my phone for well over 30 minutes because the others were all playing Love Live on their phones. Then later on I heard that some of those girls had complained about me being antisocial for being on my phone instead of… being on my phone playing Love Live like they were.My “normie” coworkers and I have very few interests in common yet we always manage to find plenty of things to talk about. I’m not sure why it’s so different in my lolita comm.
>>9852772Jealousy isn't kawaii.
>>9852775Its not! But dammit! She had an ok complexion and the only makeup she wore was eyeliner and mascara. She was super pasty pale and she didnt look good!!! T.T i didnt like how my bf forced me to confront her like that.
>>9852777Did you mean to post this in the feels thread? No one here cares.
>>9852786Im hanging out in my cutest outfit i had 7 or 8 rum and cokes but i ran out of coke a few drinks ago. Would you consider Hotaru from Dagashi Kashi as casual lolita? <.< gi girl said she thought she was casual lolita but i disagree. She atleast has good taste in anime. I might cosplay as Hotaru.... But she reminds me of gi girl and im still steamier than steamed broccoli.
>>9852773Jeeze I know the feeling too. Its so hard to talk to people who can only talk about anime or love live and not about... lolita or cats or tea and the like.
>>9852772>>9852777>>9852791what the fck
>>9852797Maybe it’s a roleplaying crossboarder who thinks this is how girls act and is trying to fit in or something.
>>9852794>>9852773I cosplay but try and keep the two seperated unless someone asks me about what I’m wearing to a convention. I already know that some lolitas think I’m snobbing them because I don’t wear lolita to conventions. But I just don’t want to wear something I consider fashion to a place that it can be miss interpreted as a costume. Plus I spend time making my cosplay, I’m going to wear it to a convention where it will be appreciated. There are two lolitas in my comm that play league of legends so I do have those two to talk to when a meet up rolls around. But then we often go out together in the fashion and watch pro games or hang out at a Internet cafe and play together. Been blasted for “private meets” because we do it. But we don’t care. We like to play league while the others want to talk about sailor moon and girly AF anime we have no interest in. Our last ILD was a rented movie theater that all we did was watch anime and kamikaze girls. It was boring.
>>9852662Did a newfag piss in your tea?
>>9852800Nobody was saying you can’t do both lolita and cosplay, just that it’s annoying when cosplay or anime is all someone can talk about at a lolita meetup. I’d actually like to talk about cosplay to someone who sews their own costumes because I’m into sewing too, but all the cosplayers in my comm buy their costumes from China and only talk about convention drama or how many new social media followers their latest cosplay got them.
>>9851643Nah, I'd be one of those. I'm a goth that does historical shit on the side and I found ega, and gothic lolita. I'm still not into most weeb shit, although hanging out here has influenced me.
>>9852809I don’t find it fun to play the easy card and buy the cosplay. It’s like buying a full lolita set and entering a contest. I have nothing wrong with buying full sets or cosplay. It’s when you enter an essentially talent contest with someone else’s work. My comm doesn’t really cosplay. Just watch too much anime and magical girl garbage.

>>9853033Tbh lolita doesn't have official rules. Just because some people say you have to wear a certain amount of accessories, doesn't make it a fact. It's a fashion based around what a handful of brands do, but individuals can literally do whatever they want. It doesn't actually hurt anyone or change lolita if some people wear it the ''wrong'' way.
>>9853038Lolita has a silhouette, they're not rules, but if you're not following the silhouette you're not doing lolita. If Lolita didn't have these rules then it would have died ages ago. Why wear lolita if you don't like how it looks?
