How can I make my bag less lifeless? I have the whole window filled but I'm not overlapping everything so there's gaps where the insert shows through, and the acrylics are transparent. I've got a subtle pattern to make it pop more but I'm wondering what kind of trimmings do people use? I don't think lace or flowers would suit my boy.
>>
>>9846526
You can washi tape the back of your charms. If lace or flowers aren't suitable, you could just go to a crafts store or browse aliexpress and look at scrapbooking notations until you see something a bit more fitting maybe? Or if he has any motif items or something from his series that could be useful
>>
>>9846540
I saw in the faq that washi taping charms could turn out badly. Do you know any other ways to decorate them? I vaguely remember seeing custom cases
>>
>>9846540
Please don't washi tape them. Speaking from experience, a lot of us have had troubles and damaged our charms.
>>
>>9846549
You can print out a background you like for the charms instead and encase it along with the charm between two sheets of vinyl. Carefully heat seal the edges with an iron/flat-iron and trim off the excess. Very similar effect, no risk of damage. If anything, it's extra protected against scratching/items dangling against eachother.
>>
>>9846514
i love it, subtle yet so pleasing to look at
>>
>>9846549
There should be a tutorial floating around that shows how make custom cases out of pvc vinyl that you can easily get at fabric stores. Goods Republic has a few good ideas on how you can make them look pretty nice

https://goodsrepublic.com/blog/entry_307.html

>>9846526
Are their any items or symbol that your boy is known for? Or maybe a favorite food? Like my boy is known to have a pet bird so I try to find little bird charms to fill in the gaps. You can also try making/buying rosettes if you have badges. I'd say try walking around a craft store to see if anything sticks out to you. I've done it a couple of times when I got stuck with my own bag and I was surprise to find some of the stuff I did.
>>
Alright gulls how do we liven this bag up? I nabbed all this stuff at a local con yesterday and since I had the bag figured may as well. Since it’s a small window, not sure what else to do with it apart from an insert and a ribbon or rosette on the badge up top. Question is what color to go with. They’ve all got reddish hair tones so maybe that?
>>
>>9846745
I would think a medium/darker blue so that they pop out more. If somehow you could get 3 more of the straps with the hat, they could circle around the center like a pinwheel which could be cute
>>
Does anyone here have one of those cat ear base bags? I was curious about the quality.
>>
So, I'm currently trying to bid on a badge on YJA and each time I place a bid (using FJ), as soon as the "processing bid" page is done loading I'm instantly outbid? I've tried about 4 times now, and even while attempting to process my bid, it said that my current offer had been outbid. However, checking my past bids I was the lowest and the new highest bid somehow managed to beat FJ's loading screen?

Am I stupid and missing something, or is someone actually actively bidding against me? I've been watching this listing for about two weeks now, and it had to be relisted at a lower price since it didn't sell the first time. Sorry for such the long post, this is just a bit confusing and I'm worried I'm doing something wrong.
>>
>>9846911
If you weren't the first bidder, the first bidder put in a maximum bid and your bid just isn't high enough to outbid them. It works similar to ebay in that sense.
>>
>>9846919
Makes sense, but there weren't any bids on the item. This started happening as soon as I placed the first bid.
>>
>>9846944
It’s happened to me a few times as well. Sucks but you gotta keep putting in bids until you beat their max or decide it’s too much.
>>
>>9846694
That's exactly the link I was looking for!

Not especially? I guess chains could sort of work. He actually hates all the stereotypical stuff associated with his job so it's been a bit of a pain. I'm thinking of decorating it sort of like his room?
>>
I think I'm finally almost finished with my itabag. It looks like it's missing something though, maybe a border around the window? I'm not sure what.

I'm in the same boat. The character I wanted to make a bag of has 0 merch and the series he's from is dead. What I've planned on doing is making custom pins of the few official art he's been featured in and make something similar to >>9848579

That or look for artists to commission like

Are there any US-based sellers that have tote style base bags? I want to put something together before my next con in 2 weeks and the only thing I can find on amazon that qualify for prime is backpacks. I checked itabagparadise, but they are stupid overpriced. Am I just shit out of luck?
>>
>>9848903
you can try etsy sellers, but every US-based reseller is a mega scalper. some overpriced ebay options might have faster shipping too i guess

dude im literally making a bag entirely out of commissioned fanart (see last thread), if i can do it you can too! icon commissions are the cheapest kind; if you ask nicely a lot of artists are willing to make them circular specifically for badge purposes. just put some effort in and get some commissions! it's not impossible.
>>
Why do so many people in the itabag scene look down on fanmerch bags? Especially if a series barely has any official merch.
>>
>>9849091
We've been over this a million times.
No one's gonna judge you if your series doesn't have much official merch, people mostly bitch if it's a major series with a wide variety of merch (Love Live and Yuri on Ice are main examples) yet people still cop out for mediocre fanart.
>>
>>9849091
You must not have spent a very long time here because they don't? The only time it's kinda side-eyed is if a series is drowning in official merch eg Sailor Moon.

>>
>>9849091
Because they're usually a way for people to bypass spending big money on official merchandise. I mean why hunt for weeks and pay proxies for that rare item when you can just grab some poorly drawn fanart charms from your local con's artist alley, fill your bag with those and get instant attention for "supporting the series you love" lol.

There's exceptions to the fan rule eg your series has a ton of official merch (love live, utapri, dangan, tourabu, pokemon, YOI, sailor moon, CCS, any flavor of the month I could name a load). But if you're bagging a western show like Voltron or Korra you have next to no choice.

It's about buying official when it's there and not using fanmerch as a way of cutting corners. You can use fan as a filler until more official comes out, but your main bag should always be more official. Japanese baggers, who invented this god damn hobby, frown HARSHLY on bags with more fan than official. They're just polite enough to shit on you in private instead
>>
>>9849091
Goes against the original purpose of itabags which consisted of showing your love in how much official merchandise you would buy. I find fanart bags to be tacky looking but each to their own. If I wanted to make a bag for a series without official merch (I wouldn't because it defeats the point) I would at least use official images and make badges. If there is only 1 official piece of merch I would rather see a whole bag filled with it than fanmerch, if there is ANY merch don't take the easy way out.
>>
>>9849091
Most people don't look down on fanmerch. The only people who do are dumb asses who incorrectly think it's cheaper/easier than official goods, and low self-esteem assholes who are looking for a reason to pretend their ginormously expensive shrine is somehow better than someone else's ginormously expensive shrine. You find a lot of both in these threads because it's 4chan.
>>
>>9849585
Someone shat on your fanbag, didn't they anon.
Fanmerch is not ideal when official merch exists and actually supports the series. Quit getting so defensive about accepting subpar choices.
>>
>>9849586

Like a lot of other anons have said, we've been over this quite a bit on the thread. General consensus for the most part is that fanmerch isn't always a bad thing/looked down upon.

What is looked down upon is when you use fanmerch as the bandwagon/cheap option. People often don't/won't import merch because of how pricey it can be. Others are just scared of doing it for some reason. When you fill a whole bag with stolen art of Ali/eBay knockoffs, that's looked down upon. When you go to a con and buy an overpriced knockoff Wego heart bag and buy all your charms at the con, that's looked down upon. Some people like to mix the two because sometimes people find the official merch ugly. It honestly comes down to the bag in question, as well as the person's opinion on official vs fanmade.

For me, my husbando has very limited official merch. I'm personally not a fan of screen shot buttons, so I chose to go the fanart route with my fan art bags. That being said, I also have two bags that are all of his official merch to date. He has a decent amount of official Reaper merch, but zero official Gabe merch. Pic related is my Valentine's day shrine.

Sorry for blogpost.

Is that the old Wego heart tote in the bottom right? If it is, would you mind sharing the window dimensions? I've got a blue one ordered and I'm worried it won't be big enough to fit the rest of my Tokage stuff.

Has anyone been doing any crafty stuff for their bags lately? I started making rosettes and it was a lot less hard than I anticipated. I liked it a lot, though I definitely have room to improve.

Sure thing! The bag is pretty flimsy so you'll def need a strong enough insert to help support the bag itself. Here's a picture of my insert next to the bag! There's a little piece of velcro that keeps the insert pocket separate from the big part of the bag on the inside, and I just decided to use that to help support the weight. I only have two thin layers of foam and it's not enough to support it. Though, the two guns I have pinned at the bottom are quite heavy.

From white dot to white dot, it's around 8.75 in.
Blue to blue is around 8.25 in.
Width of the heart is 10.25 in.

My insert is 12 inches by 14 inches. I didn't make it as wide as the pocket but it's about as tall. You can kind of see the heart shape on my insert - sorry for such the crap quality picture. If you need anymore of the inside of the bag, I'd be happy to help!
>>
>>9849743
You are truly the Reaper fan of the century.
>>
>>9849818
I tried making a rosette the other night as well. Took some critique so I’ll make another when I have some free time. Strange you say it was simpler than first thought because attempting the pleated kind turned out harder for me to get around so I just went fuck it and did ribbons instead. I’m considering cheating and getting one of those rosette kits but is it worth it if I’m just going to make two or three
>>
>>9849585
It's ok to like your fanbag, as long as you accept your opinion is wrong
>>
>>9849943
Concrit:

Don't use grosgrain ribbon for the tales because it'll frey easily when cut. You could seal the edges but really you should use a more silky type of ribbon that doesnt mind being cut against the grain.

Why do have polka dot tails when your main body doesn't contain polka ribbon?

The ribbon for the bow is way too tiny. You could use a curling iron and curl it though that'd be cute deco.

You don't have a solid base in the middle so it looks cheap and will fall apart easily. Consider pleating a circle first then attaching bows around the outside. You need the basis of the rosette first. Also the same ribbon layered twice looks a bit weird swap one for the estranged polka
>>
>>9850426
Are people really this nitpicky and strict about rosettes??? I think it looks great and the only part I agree with you is the bow being too small. Sealing the tips of grosgrain ribbon is a must though.
>>
>>9850396
nayrt but noob non-itabag-haver here, browsing the thread out of curiosity; i'm glad i learned that this is a thing in the community before trying to make my own.

out of curiosity, what's the expectation for shows where the merch is shitty/nonexistent (I assume there's such a thing even in japan as a show that does poorly enough in ratings to not get merched)?

would also enjoy schooling on how japanese entertainment industry merch decisions are made at the corporate level if anyone with knowledge feels like expounding, i'm familiar with US but it's clearly a lot different there
>>
>>9850426
>>9850451
Put a flame to the edges to seal quick and easily
>>
>>9850460
Most anime air late night, which means ratings are negligible in terms of profit. DVD/BD, merchandising and licensing are literally how a majority of late night shows make back money. In terms of fanmerch VS official merch, I'm gonna agree with these anons >>9849483 >>9849510 >>9849743 but if the show did that poorly, I doubt there will even be fanmerch for you to rely on.
>>
>>9850426
Sorry I didn’t clarify; this was just a test to figure out color and design, not a finished product I plan on putting on my bag. But I will take the concrit into consideration! Didn’t even think about the fraying, though so far I haven’t noticed any on it.
>>
Ok so I got a bag and merch and now I'm supposed to start arramging stuff on my insert, but I feel like everything looks boring and bad. How do you guys do it?
>>
>>9851000
It's really not more complex than trying multiple different layouts and picking the best looking one. Also thinking about embellishments that would suit your character. The FAQ has links to tutorials that would be useful too.
>>
>>9851000
Just start trying a bunch of arrangements! If you have a bunch of duplicates of the same item or similar, I would try and focus on creating symmetry as best as possible. If you have a bunch of different items, I would try and choose one item to be a centre piece and focus on building around that. Try to keep colours and shapes balanced.
>>
>>9850554
Interesting, that’s something I never thought of! Thanks for the insight anon ~

If I ever do a bag it’ll be all real merch but like... that’s because the only things I care enough about to put this much effort into are juggernauts like Sailor Moon and shit.
>>
>>9850501
Ah yes put a fire to a ribbon.

Or just use Frey glue
>>
>>9850451
Its not nitpicking dumb ass they're giving consecutive criticism to help them improve on their tests. Jfc go back to Facebook if you don't understand
>>
>>9851410
Have you really not ever used fire to seal your ribbons? I do it all the time and haven't failed even once. Or maybe you just don't know how to.

How do people feel about selfmade merch bags? I'm making one right now and having a great time, my character has almost no merch and I thought drawing everything myself might be another way of showing my love? Fanmade merch bags were discussed in this same thread, just a few days ago. Scroll up a bit and read.
>>
>>9851706
That's the thing, I have. Maybe because I'm not native english I'm misinterpreting things about the comments about official only and reading them as no fanmerch ever. I should reword my question maybe, what I'm trying to ask is if to those people fanmerch bags will always be less of a commitment than official bags. I dunno, am I expressing myself badly that you guys are getting kinda ticked off? I've been reading these threads since a long time but I've never made a bag from scratch, I have two official only bags and I guess I've paid less attention to the discussions surrounding fanmerch bags. I'm sorry if it comes off as annoying or stupid.
>>
>>9851708
Fanmerch/selfmade merch bags will not be automatically considered less of a commitment. The only reason anons are getting annoyed is because in this very same thread, this kind of topic has already been discussed (See >>9849091). If you've been lurking for a long time, you should have already come to a conclusion yourself, since this topic gets brought up frequently in many threads.
>>
>>9851615
Holy shit you anons are dumb. It's not sarcasm. Learn to tell the difference before you reply. I know you guys are kind of thick because all you ever seem to do is shit up these threads up when "AHHH SOMEONE SAID SOMETHING AND IT UPSETS ME" but just shut the fuck up already so we can have actual bag discussions without your crap.

Last week I took a friend of mine to a meet up, she barely gets to socialize due to her workschedule, it was a mixed group, mostly lolitas, some 'normal' weebs and cosplayers. When we showed up several people started bitching and insulting her because her bag (which is beautiful by the way) consists of buttons designed by her and a handmade doll. She owns every single piece of official merch of this singer, every cd, clothing, etc. ... you name it, she has it. People are ridiculous, what if the pins that exist are cute, but don't fit the whole theme you're going for?

Personally I would LOVE to be able to make my own merch for a bag! One thing I would worry about is it all looking the same though.

Also, as was mentioned previously, it depends on the person. One thing you need to keep in mind is you're not making this itabag for anyone else. It's for YOU, anon, and your love of your character! A lot of people make bags and just post them to get a lot of likes and validation. At the end of the day, all that matters is the fact that you're proud of your bag. Nobody is off limits to making a bag just because their character isn't from an anime or doesn't have official merch. But another thing to keep in mind is that if there is official merch of your character, it's great to buy it so you can support the series!

Do any of you have experience with base bags that are true to color? I'm looking for a yellow one for an Allmight bag and don't want to end up with a pastel.
>>
>>9851762
Let us know how they are. I have the rounded star bag and I hate the straps for it.
>>
I'm eyeing a huge lot of my character's goods on YJA; they mention they've all been used and there may be dirt and scratches. What are the chances that this is an exaggeration? I've bought used goods from Surugaya and they've all been pristine - the Japanese seem to think something's been 'used' if someone so much as breathed near it.
>>
>>9852268
It’s a gamble but as you say, Japanese sellers seem to over exaggerate the condition of second hand items. If you really want them just go for it, the only time I’ve experienced any noticeable damage on a used item was on the back and as such not an inconvenience at all.
>>
Repost because I posted in the old thread like an idiot.

Anybody have tips on how to remove melted tape glue/tape from the vinyl? I went to a con a few months ago and I guess holding the bag close to my body made all the glue dots melt right off.
>>
>>9852175
There's a knockoff Swimmer bag that's a good bright yellow, if you don't mind the cute scallops and bows for Allmight.
Also those yellow star-window bags are not pastel.

I feel you. I used to buy boxsplits for Osomatsu and sell the boys I didn't want. Orange seems like a cursed color for bags, but your options are a few of the Zakkamart ones, waiting for Wego to restock, the new "blossom" Berry.Q, the idol branded ones (utapri/tsukiuta/idolish 7), the bootleg swimmer, or those solid no-name brand ones that circulate various shopping sites
>>
>>9853107
Sounds like your friend is a bandwaggoner.
It's always rough seeing people resell off merch of their supposed husbando/waifus
I've seen people sell off their whole itabags with merch and all, it kinda rustles me since it kinda defeats the point of an itabag
On another note making a FotM bag is not worth it, attention/facebook likes is not worth it at all, and reselling shit just to make a profit off weebs/actual fans is tacky. I wish the fb group would understand this

>tfw you still genuinely love Ichi and osomatsu-san

Has anyone had any luck in dyeing base bags into a different color?

I'm looking for a burgundy / dark red bag for the character Shu from Ensemble Stars (pic relevant) but all the 'red' bags I've come across are too vibrant.
>>
>>9853307
If its a canvas bag you might be able to, cotton dyes well but you gotta be careful with the plastic. Look for cold dyes for non-synthetic fabrics, it's your best bet to keep the window safe. I'd still test on a piece of vinyl of same/similar grade to make sure it'll be okay (and on a similar canvas if possible).
Or just commission a bag with the color you want.

>>
>>9853399
I went through a similar buy recently. I wanted one strap out of a box of about 8 and it was the character everyone wanted to get. When the straps came out I tried looking for my character but nobody sold him. The one time I did find him for sale it was the same price as a box. I resorted to buying the whole box and luckily found someone who was ok with taking my extras. Ironically, now that the set has been out a while I've passed by the strap for sale and for good prices! Next time a new set comes out, I'll try and wait to see if wishlist straps get sold so I don't have to keep doing these dumb whole box buys.

Forgive me if this has been asked but I made sure to check FAQ beforehand and try googling. What is a good bag for displaying tsum tsums/mochi mochi mascots? Have you looked at the Wego Deco Room totes? I don't think I've seen bags with windows deeper than 2in/5cm. Maybe diy a deeper window. If you do it on a backpack type it doesn't need to look perfect since you won't really see it esp if you put an insert in.

It starts with one bag. Then it splits into a bigger bag for that character, so you can fit more items. Then you get the need for a bag for another character you love, and then another. Maybe you have the willpower to only make one bag at a time, so as not to spend all your money at once, but the thought is always there with you. You see great deals for some pieces you really want, and you think 'well, I'm not making that bag -yet-, but grabbing that merch now when its cheap will save me money in the long run, so its totally ok'. And then boom, you have 6 bags planned, all in varying states of creation, checking sites every other day for things, eyeing your 'modest' budget, hating it for being inadequate, and trying to bulk it up a skimming a few corners on actual necessities.

Not that I'd know or anything. This is all just conjecture.

I also needed something deep seeing how I have the SDC tsum things on preorder (will add pics in reply). However I already think the bag is too small T^T. So I'm new to the itabag scene but is this really the way people see reselling of merch someone doesn't want anymore? Because I have had times where I was convinced I wanted all the cute things from a series ever, but then the shiny wore off and I just realized I wasn't into it anymore. I'm not sure my incidences of this happening will change just because I feel like displaying my gear on a bag, if I get tired of something then I'm tired of it. Selling it or trading it is better than letting it collect dust. I've never bought things just for attention.

I think it depends how long you've liked the character/series. There's lots of series that I liked and had lots of fun talking to others about when they were showing, but then a season or two later I'd mostly moved onto something else. I think its the same way for a lot of itabaggers, at least the ones that you see selling tons of merch all at once, they got crazy into something, but then the glitz wore off and they found something else. I've only got a few bags I'm working on, but they are all for characters I have loved for many years, and that I know I will always come back to, so I'm not too afraid of falling into a money pit.
>>
>>9855782
For the last few years what started off as a little merch pruning for me led to huge purges of merch that I thought I'd never let go. This was years' worth of stuff and I had accumulated a ton of cards and character goods. Although I couldn't even come close to breaking even, I was (and still am) relieved I got to pass my things to other peeps and not just chuck out the stuff. That would've really hurt.
>>
>>9855775
Those plush are adorable. Consider me jelly.
As for your question, are you going to put all the tsums in the bag, or just the Jotaro and Kak ones? Looking at pic, it looks like you should still have plenty of room for badges and things in the bag once you put the tsum tsums in, they would probably only take up the corners I'm thinking. A little rearranging might be necessary, but I think you could fit in everything with only a bit of overlap. Unless you are planning to take your bag to an upcoming con, you can always just buy a bigger bag if they don't.
>>
>>9855823
I'm planning to put in Jot, Kak, SP and HG. No plans for a con, I still have a few more things to buy to make sure all the merch matches. I'm waiting on the vol 2 of the rubber straps with Kak to be listed on Ami Ami and there's a few more badges I'm looking for. Thanks for the help

Not really. Yeah the bag is nicely done but we get to stop encouraging people to buy the alice bootlegs, they outright stopped the company from producing the original. The quality of the construction is so greatly different it's a genuine shame people can't get a hold of the original bag because of this bullshit.

Also it's a shit pairing that is killing it's own 20 year franchise so there's that too
>>
>>9858872
Nayrt but I was just wondering how to know it's a bootleg To Alice bag just from that picture. I was under the impression that the differences were the zipper design and the fabric directly under the clear vinyl (where the original was PU instead of fabric) Just curious since I've never been able to see either of them in real life
>>
>>9858872
You're not wrong, but you're allowed to hate the bag just for the ship. You don't need to convince everyone that it's for some righteous reason.
Plus, they already stopped making the bags. Nothing's going to bring them back. It'd be more useful to discourage people from using knockoffs of bags that are currently in production.

The branding on the zippers and some, not all, are missing the criss cross ribbon design on the side. The bootlegs also have a very noticeable sewn hem around their front bows which is generally the dead give away. I've also noticed that some bootlegs can't seem to support themselves and they warp inwards at the sides.

I don't suppose we could talk you into posting the pattern when you're done drafting it?

You must be loving the Retribution event going on now. Also, do you plan on getting the new Reaper figma?
>>
I have literally just found out about itabags. Do they have any practical use outside of just displaying pins/keychains/goods?

They're a cute idea, but for someone like me who's always on the go and has a lot of necessities to carry, it seems impractical to carry around a bag that has no use than to just show off your fandom.
>>
>>9859611
Anon, did you look at any pictures in the thread at all, or are you so dense as to not notice that nearly every base still has a portion that can be used as an actual bag?
On most the window is a separate portion from the bag itself.
>>
>>9859611
if you can't even look this up, please don't make one yet.
>>
>>9859592
If it goes ok I'll try to upload something, I just have zero computer graphic skills to make anything too impressive for a downloadable pattern
>>
So tell me itabaggers, what activates your salt when it comes to bagging?
For me it's:
>Scalpers;merch and basebags(especially SWIMMER and Daiso bags)
>Buyers that beg you to lower your prices or make you feel guilty for not selling to them first.
>People that insist on not using a proxy and get defensive when you suggest it
>Itabags obviously made just for likes/attention
>>
>>9859726
>Buyers that beg you to lower your prices or make you feel guilty for not selling to them first.

Had this recently. It's a quick way to end up on someone's blacklist and then good luck trying to get that sweet bag merch then.

Bandwagoners and those who complain "I wish I could bag my fave but it's too pricy!!". If you truly loved your fave you can deal with their tax, budgeting is hard but possible in this hobby.
Also those who race to be the "first" to bag a flavour of the month series, it was in BIG effect with YOI and now people are trying to sell off their hoards of merch with no luck.
>>
>>9859726
>Buyers that beg you to lower your prices or make you feel guilty for not selling to them first.
THIS. But also people who comment on other people's claims like "Oh but I wanted [x]". Usually with some kind of sad emoji. It's all in hopes of getting the original buyer to back down and it's pathetic.
>>
>>9859726
Some that bother me:

When the base bag's color seems completely random and doesn't match the character, such as a yellow bag for a character whose image color is blue.

People putting various anime-related goods with no theme present into one bag and calling it an itabag and expecting to get asspats about it.

Aside from the ones listed, I don't like when people decorate their bag with shit that doesn't fit the character. A lot of base bags have cute bows, scallops, lace, heart shapes, flowers, etc. which looks really weird with certain characters.
I mean, there is a way to make it work (like a lot of the cute Reaper stuff), but you have to make it look intentional.
Most of the time it's just a serious/dark/cool character in a cutesy dolled-up base bag and it's just a bit jarring to me.
>>
>>9859726
People who whine about being "too poor" to make an itabag and behave like you MUST be rich if you have one.
I wore my first ever itabag to a con a couple years ago, I was so happy to get compliments from fellow fans of the series only to get someone knock down my mood by telling me how much they wish they could get one too but that merch was soooo expensive and they couldn't afford it at all. They completely disregard me when I tried to explain I had a small budget myself and that I had managed to make it by making the base bag myself, buying second hand items for cheaper and having been collecting for several months, a bit at the time, until I had enough.
Nowadays I don't give a crap but that one time, their unwillingness to even hear me out left me honestly kinda upset, considering it was my first bag, I had been gathering all my merch for ages and how excited I was to wear it out.
>>
>>9859877
I don't get the the "too poor" mentality for two reasons:

1. Secondhand merch from Japan is dirt cheap depending on series and character. I mean 50-100 yen cheap and if you're lucky you can get cheap lot auctions for under $50.
2. This is a luxury thing. Bags started to showcase your collection on the go. Implying to have a bag you had a collection to begin with. If you're not willing to put out the cash, don't have a bag.

In the end it comes down to people being too lazy to get good deals and too cheap to buy merch and passing it off as being "too poor".

Too poor before meant "I can't spend 50% of my paycheck on merch.." but now too poor means "I don't want to spend $50 to make this bag. Can't I just get a handful of badges from the Hot Topic bin?"
>>
>>9859888
Not that anon but I'm just ridiculously tired of that mentality, not just in itabagging but also cosplay, lolita, and whatever other hobbies.
I can get doing it on a budget, I'm no richfag myself, but people have built up this weird entitlement in these hobbies.
You don't NEED to participate in any of these hobbies to show devotion to whatever thing and I don't get why people now are so concerned with that. I've never seen anyone say "oh look at that loser, they don't even have an itabag of their fav", so why do people act like that.
>>
>>9859888
>>9859906
Because what they really mean is "I don't want to spend 100 bucks on a thing I'm doing for attention and will drop when I jump into the next bandwagon".
>>
>>9859912
Spot on.
>>
>>9859912
Pretty much. I guess they see itabagging as an "easy" grab for attention and get dissuaded when it's not as easy as buying a handful of 50 cent buttons.
The attention you get isn't even that great though, it's mostly a tool to attract fellow fans.

I recall there being an anon here who befriended a girl in Japan because they were bagging the same character, itabags are better for making friends not fishing for likes/attention whoring
I love seeing other people's bags and listening to them talk about how much they love a character, it's so wholesome.

http://crosspistols.com/review-to-alice-itabag there's a really good review of the original bag! The biggest giveaway is usually the fact the merchandise can slide behind the white part at the front, I've never seen a knockoff that has the fabric separation like the original. Sometimes it can be hard to tell from just the bow, but this pic has stitching around the edge which is probably the easiest giveaway. They're usually the lowest quality ones from my experience too unfortunately.

>>9859888
Hey my husbando has insane character tax! $50 will net me a single canbadge if I'm lucky. I'm not a richfag by any means my salary barely reaches $1k a month (I'm part time because of health) but you know what I do? I save. I buy a little each month and I build it up slowly. I keep track of what's rarer to get and if I'm tight that month I'll pass a common item incase that grail comes up. I hate that people feel like they're constantly entitled to be a part of a hobby, especially a luxury hobby like this. You don't need a full A3 size tote with 48 badges and 16 acrylics, its ok to make a little bag!
>>
>>9859969
I mean hey, you can also showcase your degeneracy so you can make some degenerate friends
>>
>>9859976
>depending on series and character
That's why I said that. I know character tax is bad but I figure if someone is that desperate to make a bag they'd pick a character they like that's cheaper.

I'm glad you prioritize though and budget. Some people on FB will bankrupt themselves for merch.
>>
>>9859726
Bandwagoners, people who deviate from what an itabag is supposed to be (still call it an itabag), not supporting official merch and defending shitty bags just to be inclusive.
>>
>>9859888
Anon you were originally replying to and I know, I completely agree with all you said.
That's exactly what always try to explain to people when they tell me they cannot afford to make one but really want one. That specific person at the con I mentioned simply wasn't even interested in listening, simply put on the "boohoo I can't afford something so expensive" and quite literally turned away as I began to explain I budgeted and collected over a long period of time.

I understand if you are young, still in school and don't have a way to pay for your own hobbies but it's pretty much what other anons said: you don't HAVE to participate in a hobby if you can't afford it? It's not a necessity and you aren't entitled to it.
I personally adore lolita and would love to have a gorgeous wardrobe but I don't earn enough to pay for it atm (I mean, I could by saving up and budgeting, I just wouldn't wear them out enough to justify the money), so I just sit back and appreciate it on other people. I certainly don't whine to my lolita friends how I'm oh too poor to be in the fashion and imply they must be be rich for wearing it.

I'm head over heels for his new skin. I absolutely ADORE it. And yep! I preordered two the day they dropped on Amiami! Though I am a little sad to wait til 2019 for them. I'm hoping to put one in a bag, though I'm not sure how well that'll work out.

>>9859726
People who say they can't find merch of (insert character they love so much!!!) because they only shop on eBay.
When people ask where you got something and you answer from (insert Japanese website) and people reply like "Oh, I don't know how to use/understand this website... :( "
Obligatory pins and chains showing in the bag, especially if it's a knockoff bag with knockoff merch of 5+ series.
People posting their bags with 1 item in them.
People asking questions that are answered in the FAQ.
People that post every time they get 1 or 2 new pieces of merch.
People pushing their crappy art/buttons on sales posts.

Though the last few I guess mostly apply to the FB group. The FB group gives me a lot of salt.
>>
>>9859611
Its a bag anon. You can put things in it. It has as much use as any other bag of the same size. Use your brain.
Most of us probably don't use it as our everyday shopping bag, but more like a 'special occasion' bag. Like you would a really fancy but not so practical purse.

>People pushing their crappy art/buttons on sales posts
Good God this. I check the FB sales page pretty often, as most people have very reasonable prices, but on every single WTB/ISO post there's always the same three people with the same three 'check out my etsy I make custom badges!' posts of just the crappiest drawings imaginable. If you are actually a good enough artist, people will come to you, ther is no reason to spam up the page with your overpriced crayon-tier drawings.

My biggest pet peeve right now is the sudden wave of people who are just lazy as shit. 'WTB -insert extremely popular character here-' Like bitch did you even attempt to look for them? There is not a single day that BnHa or Love Live items are NOT being sold by somebody. If you're so lazy you need to be spoonfed by buyers, this is clearly not the hobby for you.

I'm always paranoid that the seller may not be active anymore and it'll be a waste of time

These are by the artist Manamoko, who is behind the brand Fancy Surprise and were sold at a recent Comiket. She was selling them online at some point but I'm not sure if she still is. You'd need a proxy to order her fanmerch however as its a different site compared to her usual store front site.
>>
>>9860695
Do you even actually want the items if you think sending a message about them is "waste of time"? It's probably more of a waste of time to ask about it here rather than messaging the seller/proxy.

I haven't tried it myself but I think it will be alright to clean it. It's like... a jelly-like thick squishy adhesive pad. I don't really know what to compare it to. I assume if you just use a bit of water and let it dry a bit it will be fine and sticky.

I'm looking at all these photos of nice bags and realize I fucking suck at placement; all my bags just look awkward. I'm not sure if it's because I need to get better at placement and spacing or if I need more items or what. How do I get better? Just keep observing bags and experimenting?
