And I did it all with my best friend. So I had lots of fun even if the con wasn't all that good.

A lot of panels I went to were no photo which sucked ass. And there was a great lack of giveaways at those panels too. This year felt kinda lackluster due to that. Not that I was gonna win anything anyway.

Panels with japanese people are pretty much always no photo that's not a new thing this year.

Don’t worry about single digit gain at a con, anon

Remember that you should only worry if it stays on and you keep adding to it.

If you were to step on a scale and people told you to hold a jug of water, of course the needle on the scale is going to move.

Just go back to your active lifestyle and you’ll be good

Also, fuck this Gundam. He was in a good spot on day 1, but on 2 and 3 this fucker didn’t want to move from the hallway leading to the entertainment hall and congested everything for hours.

So I checked out this just to see how bad it was, nothin else much to do Sunday. It consisted of 3 Fat white self hating sjw’s. The main chick had a shaved head and had a walking cane and if I’m not mistaken had gout, another one of the speakers was a fucking bearded lady, serious shit.

> shaved head he she talking about her first ever “cosplay”
> fucking monsters inc mike wazowski cosplay
> literally starts talking in wazowski’s voice, fitscharacterperfectly.jpg
> #metoo victimist bs
> shave head talks about fail suicide attempts, almost threw self out of 80mph car
> traps in audience
> speakers of course all have huge victim complex
> bearded lady shares experience when watched the purge, triggered tht the white people didn’t die in movie

God all mighty, if AX gets any more pc beyond that definitely never going again.

$20 kept me fed for all four days

It also helps that my roommates provided alcohol for the con. I ran the numbers and I only consumed about 1300 calories each day, with about 500 being from protein cookies/granola a day, the other 800 was the liquor

Pic related was the exception to the rule. That mom and pop Indian place across the Staples center was fucking GOAT

Lounge 21 is utter shit. All you end up doing is wait in a long ass line to buy an over priced drink that has less alcohol content than a baby's apple juice just to sit around other autists that can't socialize at all. Go to westin 3rd floor pool side if you want to have a good time.

>>
>>9936979
I was annoyed about the way they did exhibit hall line up and the bnha/aot premiers. Other than those it was good.
>>
This has probably already been said before, but fuck the people running the KH3 demo. Fuckers kept capping the line and telling me to come back in around 30 minutes only for them to tell me the same shit because they had no clear way of telling me when the 30 minutes actually started. This is compared to the FGO VR and Soul Calibur demos that were incredibly smooth.
>>
>>9936985

Yeah it was dog shit. If they just let in new people as the line got shorter (you know, like every other demo in existence) it would have been fine. Instead they tried to do it in waves and it was stupid.
>>
PREMIER FAN IS AVAILABLE AGAIN!!!!
>>
>>9936985
Honestly fuck the attendance rate. Shit gets capped so fast everywhere. The only thing they need to cap is attendance itself but they won't because everyone is after the jew dollar.
>>
Anybody got vids/webms from that vr hentai game they demo'd in the exhibit hall? That shit was hilarious.
>>
>>9936985
Yea they didn't set up in a way that let them have long enough lines for what kh was gonna draw.
>>9936994
Honestly I prefer it having as many people as possible, I always hate how pax and whatnot just sell out. Though that's partially because pax sells their passes in a retarded way. If passes were capped they'd need to cut down the size of the main events hall probably. Having a not full hall for big name stuff is a bad look.
>>
>>9936830
I lost 5 pound just walking around 5 hours taking pics
>>
Honestly I would rather put up with line caps than online waiting rooms where con badges are distributed by lottery.
>>
Does anyone know how many premier badges they sell every year?
>>
Did anyone get to meet Kim-chi or Kureyabashi? I went to both of their booths a few times and I kept missing them
>>
>>9936998
>a bad look
Once again the only people who care about looks/turnout is the companies because it boils down to the dollar.
>>
>>9936985
It was just as bad for the Aniplex store line. It doesn't help that they were so unorganized with their line, no line barriers, and the booth was located in the fucken front door entrance. Buy the time I was able to buy something, most of the shit I wanted was sold out in the 2 hour of the first day.

>>
What would you cap the attendance at? I'm thinking 100k flat.

>>9937047
Overall about $3000-$4000
Hotel, badge, merch, food, booze, tickets, etc.
>>
>>9937047
About $1k. Most of it was from hotel/flight.
>>
>>9937047

BUT now I gotta drop a bunch of dosh for the Pillows concert next week so thats probably another 3 or 4 hundo

I bought two tickets and my friend im going with might leave the state for that week so I'll probably sell his on StubHub for a neat profit. I've never scalped a ticket, I wonder how I'll feel right after.

>>
>>9937047
$600 on prints because I cant control myself.
>>
>>9936963
If Aquors doesn't come back, I would expect a lot of those will be for sale later.
>>
>>9937096
I've been buying only for concert tickets, but feel weird selling it since its tied to my name somehow.
>>
>>9937102
So I am not the only one disappointed with the DDLC boxes? I wanted to support the Devs, but the box was not quality at all.
>>
I bet I was the only person there who played Monster Strike while waiting in line.
>>
>just got home
>early bird tickets are already all gone
;_;
>>
>>9937047
If we're just talking merch, around $300.
>>
>>9937113
Honestly I'm not actually too upset with it because I mainly wanted to buy the box to take a shit in it and hand it to a friend of mine when I go on a roadtrip later this year
But for the amount of money it's pretty bad, particularly the stickers, those should cost maybe 1-2 dollars each if you're overcharging, the bag should cost maybe 7 from things like art bovine (for better quality no less) and the prints are maybe 5 dollars each at most, button maybe a dollar, that sums up to $22 at most while retailing it, the only thing I don't have a solid on is the acrylic (maybe enamel I don't fucking know) standee, so that must be made of some good quality shit to make that jump logically

That said someone in a thread a long time ago made a statement that I agree with to this day and that's that yeah while you could get the stuff for sale there for much less (and for big purchases you ought to buy from the cheapest) what you're paying for is the memory of buying that at some particular con with all that went with that
>>
>>9937047
$170 on prints and acrylic keychains/stands from the artist's alley, $85 on parking for all four days, and whatever the cost of gas was for commuting
>>
>>9937113
The ddlc box was only worth it if you wanted the dan autograph desu.
>>
>>9937047
I actually came out ahead

Bought 400 in idol merch for aqours during the day 0 morning line, resold with 30% markup throughout all 4 days

Won a few medium-big ticket things at booths and sold those almost immediately for another 200

Sold three TRIGGER bucks for about 60

FLCL shirt/poster from the panel was another 40

MHA ticket was sold to someone desperate for 100

I live close enough to LACC so in total I spent about 60 übering back and forth all three days so I am more than happy with the con
>>
>>9937128
Acrylic things like that are usually around $15 maybe more for official ones so not too terrible. If you wanted the autograph ticket too I'd say it's even worth it. Also for buying stuff at cons that's why I mostly stick to buying stuff at artist alley since there it's at least directly supporting an artist.
>>
>>9937146
Ah, so you're the reason why the con is shit.
>>
>somehow nabbed a premier badge
Hope to god it’s worth it and can make up for this shitty year
>>
>>9937128
> complaining about prices by considering the manufacturing costs
do you also go into clothing stores and say that you could buy the shit from china for a dollar?
>>
Am I the only one mad that Day 0 badges are not included in Full Passes?
>>
>>9937150
Lmao, get fucked because I paid everything with my time

I camped out for the idol merch line

I waited and planned ahead for everything that I was attending.I didn’t want to sell my MHA ticket but some neckbeard was borderline crying about not getting in,all I did was nonchalantly ask if he was interested in buying mine,I’m not that into MHA and the first number he spouted was $100

Same with the TRIGGER and everything else.

AX is crazy superficial and people forget that the merchandise means very little when compared to the experience itself
>>
>>9937106
It's in the interest of the person buying it to not fuck up because they got it for line skip/dealer hall to begin with so I feel anyone who does buy it will be careful with it
>>
>>9937158
it's kinda ridiculous that pre-show night is another 30 bucks
>>
>>9937157
No nigga, I'm saying those are the retail costs to begin with, the manufacturing costs are way way less
They are taking $30 MSRP and selling it for $55 and that's if you're getting custom made shit in the first place
>>
>>9937162
Did they have a half off coupon this year?
>>
>>9937160
I got what I wanted but I had to sit next to losers like you who were there to resell shit instead of actually enjoy it.
>>
>>9937160

This. I ain’t got time to wait for shit. I bought the aqours penlight from someone for a marked-up price, and I didn’t have to spend 7 hours in line.
>>
do they make you buy the official penlight or something?
the only reason to buy the official one is to resell it later because they always get marked up to $400 from $70 because it's memorabilia now.
>>
>>9937146
>>9937160
I'm glad you actually came out ahead at the end but doesn't it kind of suck to sink all that effort in for nothing? I hope you got some good stuff for yourself at least.

I did premier because I personally think time is more valuable than anything else when you're on a trip. Not so sure it's worth it these days since they compromised most of the time-saving perks.. but I can't imagine waiting around for stuff all day and not actually going to them!
>>
>>9937169
Not that guy, but you sound mad salty
>>
>>9937047

The stuff I came away with was the volunteer swag they gave us ;__;
>>
>>9937178
They're actually worth something? Isn't it only the idol ones?
>>
>>9937182

Hey some of my favorite things were free. Namely the Michelle and Alpaca hats, giant swag bag, cute Euphonium fan, etc.
>>
>>9937179
Not at all, I go to cons to meet up with friends and random fans for whatever series I enjoy. I’m pretty normie, so I have a lot of friends that work for different companies. I went to a lot of after parties and networked with a lot of people. You can’t do that during business hours, and if you think AX isn’t all about business during the convention posted con hours, you’ve got to be the biggest idiot in history.

>>9937169
Stay mad faggot. I sold a bunch of shit, but I also gave away a lot of it and got people into afterparties
>>
>>9936985
Same shit with Atlus and such. They cap the line and you can't stay near the line because it's basically a hazard, so you can't get in at all unless you try and guess when they reopen it.
>>
>>9937158
It's stupid how they have legitimate panels and stuff now for pre-show. Wanted to see JAST
>>
>>9937189
Same here. I go for the free shit since I already pay out the ass for travel, stay, food, ticket, etc.
>>
>>9937178
No you can use any light. Some guys want it as proof they were there. I used last year's light but they did a preorder on that one, thank god
>>
>>9937191
Oh neat, we probably met if you attended vendor or publisher parties. Yeah I can kind of understand where you're coming from if those were your objectives. Glad it all worked out!

That being said, con business isn't typical business so your last bit isn't totally true. Stuff like catching special guests is much easier during their downtime at the con. At least that's how it generally works out for me.
>>
>>9937191
I will stay mad since faggots like you will continue making cons shit for people actually there for the content.
>>
Can we talk about that fucking disaster that was the Closing Ceremony line? The whole line reorganization was bad enough, but that dumb Asian chick that was yelling at everyone, even the volunteers were the ones that fucked everything up, really put me over the edge. I was having an okay time before that, too.

>>
I hope more of the bigger booths adopt the ticket system that GSC had. It wasn't perfect but it beats hovering around a booth waiting for the line to open up.
>>
>>9937230
I legitimately snapped at the idiotic volunteers on day 0. There were 4 of them right next to each other shouting opposite directions at me after another volunteer told me to trek it across the heat to the wrong place. >>9937455

>>

It won't work, it'll just attract more orbitors and crossboarders.
>>
My highlight was getting hit by a dude. I'm not gay, but it's nice knowing someone wants to spend time with me. Most of my con experience was this year. The weather killed it for me.
>>
>>9937480
ALA 2016 was like 40 percent women if I remember and the board is like 50/50 gender wise. Beta orbitors exist to some degree at every party wether it is a seagull meet or not.
>>
>>9937480
When the female ratio is higher betas can't orbit a single target as well. Cross borders are just a fact of life but for the most part you can't tell.
>>
>>9937490
I'm talking about AX specifically. It's literally the worst for meetups.

>>
>>9937514
I stood in line next to someone with an ada badge but no visible physical impairment who kept ranting about how he could run a better con than ax.
>>

Yeah the problem with too many women is they fight for beta orbitors attention and try to take each other down.

At that point anyone who's cutting would realize the risk is not worth it and just leave. But of course no ones gonna have the balls to really call them out that far

I went to the "Diversity in Voice Acting" panel because I had nothing else to do and have an interest in voice acting. I went in expecting it to be about literal diversity like minorities, and was pleasantly surprised that it was just about having diverse voices and experiences and shit. But of course some people were a little upset it wasn't about minorities
>QA session comes up and a black guy gets picked for the answer
>He literally says "As we all know there is not a lot of black characters in anime for me to voice, and even then those black characters get played by white people. What can I do to get more black characters available for black people to voice?"
>The voice actors reply to him sounding sympathetic at first, telling him that he's right and there are very few black characters
>But tell him that the only way to get more would be for him to make his own studio/animation and produce them himself
>The guy voice actor (Torb from overwatch) then goes on to tell him that the beauty of voice acting is that you can play anyone, different races, creatures, objects, literally anything, and that if he's choosing to only want to voice black people he'd be severely limiting his ability to work on his own
>Goes on to say that he will never not be hired because he's black, but maybe they like someone else better for the job
I was pleasantly surprised that the guy got BTFO

I only go to AX anyway just for the atmosphere, and get away from my soul crushing work. I hope you guys had fun, and hopefully next year won't be as blistering hot.

I stopped a Uraraka cosplayer after she was ordering her food for a photo. I apologized for interrupting her, but she was more than happy to pose for a photo. She even complimented my costume and asked if I was going to the BNHA meetup later. We made some jokes about the heat and then she said she hoped to see me later. Our conversation lasted like 2 minutes but she treated me like we had always been friends. It was one of the nicest experiences I've had at a con.

>>9937871
they limit them in order to make people feel special plus to preserve the benefits of being premiere. sometimes when you get a lot of them together you realize you're not that special though ie. the priority entrances in the morning. premiere, industry, press, staff, and exhibitor, all in the same line.

we had people flying from east coast just for the aquors concert and then going home. it really depends on what your reasons for going are. if all your costs are high but you have the time of your life or you see stuff you wouldn't get to see it's worth it. if you have a shit time, even if it was cheap, it probably wasn't worth it.

I saw a black Tohru (Dragon Maid) cosplayer. It's one of the worst cosplays in human history. Black people shouldn't cosplay asian characters imo. They can't pull it off. They lack the cute features and body types necessary for anime characters. Also it's cultural appropriation. You guys should leave the anime characters for asians and cosplay as characters from Wakanda.

>>
>>9938061
Doesn't matter to people like that, unless 100% of black characters are played by blacks they'll throw a tantrum.
This isn't even in just anime, there's groups who believe that traditionally black/ethnic roles in all forms of media should only be played by those races. But then of course they also turn around and claim that traditionally white roles don't have to be played by only white people as well
>>

>>

It's just so strange because for the most part they never even list what could potentially be inside. I think the appeal to gambling is "oh shit I could win a lot of money, or I could win x!"
With the mystery boxes you don't even know what if there is a 'grand prize' type deal. Hell they're all pretty much shit.

Though I would not be surprised at all if they pay a guy to come by and buy a box while there's a big crowd and they purposefully give him a really good one to open right there on the spot

Nah. They only discounted the less popular items. For example they had 4 different shirts displaying each goddess in their signature lewd pose. Those sold like crazy unlike the pixel art shirts, so they discounted those.
The same applies for the hats. Everyone was buying the top nep hat, so they eventually discounted the dogoo hat that no one was getting
>>9938233
Well hopefully we both have better luck making friends

Did AX already remove all the streams? The fuck? Don't they archive this shit?
>>
>>9938531
The live stream?

You want them to spend their bandwidth on streaming old panels? And ruining the "exclusivity" of their world premiers?
>>
>>9938531
fffffffffffff i wanted to catch the panels that i missed due to JSL and otaquest ;_;
>>
Why was the guest list such dogshit this year?

Wait, really? Fuck, I only archived the day 2 stream.

>>9937629
Hi, I saw you and had a chuckle as well.
>>
>>9938681
Isn't there normally a month waiting period before they prune twitch videos? That's gayer than an Astolfo orgy.
>>
>>9938618
It's not a big deal when AX is eclipsed by the collective amount of shitty no-name streamers eating up the bandwidth and watching videos of the event is not the same as being there.
>>
>>9938781
I was in line for non-streamed events expecting I could watch the streamed events after the con. They hinted that we should watch the stream while we're in line but fuck streaming on limited congested phone data.
>>
>>9937963
By the looks of it, yeah.
>>
>>9937990
This happened to me once. I bought some wooden sword for $20 because I liked the carvings in it. Two days later I'm walking by the booth and the guy is hawking them for $5.

Cheapest lesson I've ever had. Ever since then I've bartered the fuck out of everything unless it was an exhibitor that I was familiar with and their pricing matched their web pricing.
>>
>>9939259
Do the vendors take kindly to haggling? I'm wondering if some would just laugh you off and say prices are firm
>>
>>9939268
Day 4 a lot of places will let you haggle, before then it varies.
>>
>>9939269
Does this apply to the official booths, or just the third party people?
>>
>>9939277
Some official booths it's a hard no even on day four but yea some will want to unload the stuff they're not sold out of esp if they brought it in from overseas.
>>
>>9937403
Two holes, I bought the same one, one vag and assuming the other is the asshole

If you're on the east coast, it really depends. AX is the biggest in NA and has many people from the industry coming in to talk with fans and present projects, but overall it can be pretty overwhelming and nightmarish. I live in Glendale which is 20 minutes away from the con so transportation is never an issue. I go each year because it's the closest and the biggest but really it depends on you. Look and compare prices, look up videos on the internet and determine if it is worth the price.

>I live in Glendale which is 20 minutes away
Same here. It's really nice living close by, but makes the idea of getting a hotel room, which could be a fun experience, seem like a huge waste of money

Ayyy. Didn't think two other anons would be from Glendale.
>>
>>9940176
Glendale meet up when?

Never because I'm a fatty and I don't want to look like a fatty eating in front of yall.

If time permits. I'm attending Glendale Community College at the moment with summer classes since I decided to become a productive member of society and exit my NEET life recently. Even so I'm helping out with the family business on weekends so finding free time isn't all that easy. But I don't mind making new friends.
>>
>>9940228
But anyways here's my email

I hope to see you guys at Anime California.

Also using moldy towels or clothes allowed to sit around damp rather than dried uggh
>>

Last day haggling tends to be easier because they would rather make the sale than have to repack the item and freight it back to their store. Whatever meager profit they would make is worth it. Plus, they have a better idea of how popular each item is and less popular items would just end up as dead stock anyway.

I lost all the figure giveaways but I won a volume of manga so I guess that's good. Try going to Seven Seas Entertainment's Panel next year, they give away a fuckton of manga and it was a relatively small room

don't know if I saw any of you guys, but I did the Chris-Chan cosplay on the first day.
