I am going Keto tomorrow. Anyone have any good recipes? Is this a good diet?
>>
a good diet if you like getting kidney stones and spending time on reddit
>>
>>10133846

I'd recommend eating a bullet.
>>
>>10133846
Be prepared to feel like dogshit for a week straight anon.
And everyone recommending fucking weird baked goods that's 50% almond flour.
Not worth it.
>>
I find it's a good diet. Just hard to hit your macro ratios sometimes. Don't be dissuaded by the meme stance /ck/ has taken on keto.
>>
>>10134106

>taking on a meme stance to a meme diet

What did he mean by this?
>>
Diabetic here, don't do it. it's designed for us, and it's pure shit. Just cut down your carbs to 1-2 bread items a day and you'll be fine. Cutting out carbs entirely will have ill effects on a body so used to them. My mom went on a keto diet several years ago and kept it up for 4 months solid. She decided to have a sandwich one night and the next morning she was running a 608 BS and in urgent care. Don't do it.

There aren't actually blood sugar spikes when stopping keto. They just return to normal. Granted, if you're diabetic, that might happen.

>if it's popular it's bad
Must be tiring being a hipster.
>>
>>10133846
it's great just don't go full keto cold turkey. Start limiting the amount of carbs gradually, starting with no more pastry shit. Then after a week start limiting your toast/bread/potato intake. Feel like making a sandwich? Use a small loaf instead of a bun, eventually cut that loaf down to half. Continue as you feel comfortable, you should see weight loss as soon as week 3.
>>
>>10134027
Why would Keto give you kidney stones?
>>
>>10134200
small loaf = small slice of a loaf of bread
>>
>>10134200
This is a good idea if you feel like you can't give things up easily. Weight loss can actually happen within days of starting though, in the form of water weight. After that, it'll slow down a lot and you'll see slight drops every so often. Don't expect instant results.

>>10134208
Not him, but it's not uncommon if you aren't careful. Just get your electrolytes and you'll avoid 98% of the negative effects of keto.
>>
>>10134200
Why even bother with keto? Just stick with half a sandwich of 1/4th cup of pasta in a salad if you want to lose weight. Cutting it out entirely is pointless if you just limit it and keep it limited.
>>
>already talking about his diet before he even does it

Ketoniggers are worse than vegans
>>
>>10134273
Because grains and carbs from grains are fucking terrible for you
>>
>>10133846
>going Keto
bad move.
>>
>>10134273
Because keto forces your body into ketosis, and helps burn fat even faster than it would just eating with a calorie deficit.

For ketosis, you need to eat no more than 20 net carbs. You also need to keep protein at a moderate level to avoid gluconeogenisis, which kicks your body out of ketosis. For me, that's the hardest part of keto. I find it easier to get protein than fat.
>>
>>10134279
Except they aren't. Over-abundance of grains is. A sandwich a day isnt going to make you fat when controlled and proper wheat bread is used. Not to mention Semolina's Glycemic index is among the best out there.
>>
>>10134290
>and helps burn fat even faster than it would just eating with a calorie deficit.
And what exactly is the rush again? Are you 300 pounds and have to somehow regain your honor and image? You're literally putting your body through undue stress and pain just to shave a few pounds faster? You're going to pay for that later in life when your body starts quiting on you out of abuse. Just enjoy yourself and take your time man.
>>
>>10134290
Sounds like it would be terrible for someone who lives an active life, who need carbs for high intensity training/activity and protein for recovery.

Pass.

Fun fact: Toothpaste may have carbs. Or it may not. I dunno. Just some random shit that I thought of right now.
>>
>>10134290
why not supplement with protein shake?
>>
>>10134294

Go away /fit/ nobody cares.about you meatheads
>>
>>10134310
Why do you assume there's suffering? People on keto eat tremendously well when done right. It's the people who do it wrong who you see piling cheese on top of cheese on top of bacon and smearing butter on it for every meal.

Keto isn't for long term anyways. Regardless, doctors recommend it and there are countless success stories on it, so it can't be too bad. Granted, health issues could arise later on as a result of the strain you're putting on your body.

I personally just used keto to get to a weight where working out wasn't going to literally give me a heart attack.
>>
>>10134357
>Granted, health issues could arise later on as a result of the strain you're putting on your body.

There is no granted. It's going to happen. The body will not take that kind of starvation and abuse lightly. Whether its now or 20 years, you're going to destroy yourself on keto. Doctors recommend it because its trendy, and has positive results NOW. Give it ten years and watch all the patients sue doctors for ruining their lives, and everybody blaming keto for their health issues in 2030
>>
>>10134365
>starvation
Please research keto before assuming shit. You aren't starving yourself at all. Also, it's been around since the 1920's. Started off for epilepsy, gained traction for weight loss.
>>
Try telling someone that the path to better health starts with eliminating your intake of fruits and vegetables with a straight face.
>>
>>10134451

You can still have most vegetables on keto, dipshit.
>>

Literally one apple. Yet you guys have no problem with cooking your food in butter. What a fucking meme diet.
>>

Fact : no diet is a good diet.
>>

My girlfriend went full keto and I’ve been eating the same since I do all the cooking. It hasn’t been hard for me to adhere to, but I was already cutting back on carbs in general. I feel fine and I’ve been losing weight. I’ve found good substitutes for most of what I usually cook.
>>
>>10134200
I tried this when I started keto 2 years ago. If anything I just had carb cravings all the time until I went all in. I would just start with buying some low carb wraps and shirataki noodles and using them to replace carbs when you're starting out and have massive cravings.

>>10134273
The energy boost you get from keto is insane, especially if you're the type of person who feels lethargic all the time. I wasn't overweight when I started keto, I just wanted to shave off 15 pounds and become a little leaner. 4 months into keto I realized I didn't feel tired 24/7 anymore. I also started pooping regularly for the first time ever--before that I used to poop once a week. Eventually ended up dropping 30 lbs with no exercise.
>>
>>10134090
This, don't fall for all the weird fake-carb recipes its always;
A) Disgusting
B) Specific and expensive ingredients
C) Just makes you miss carby shit all the more
Its much better to just get used to not eating carbs, and eventually you will enjoy the filling sensation from fat and protein over carbs. Those cookbooks by Maria Emmerick are pretty tasty and varied dishes as long as you ignore the desserts. Full-fat coconut milk has changed my fucking life.
>>
>>10134351
Nothing wrong if you enjoy joint and gut inflammation. The exhausting feeling of digesting carbs and wanting to nap. Yea I'll pass. Keep pretending carbs and bread are good tho.
>>

Literally every fat fuck sperg itt bitching about dieting and health
>>
>>10135586
>keto is good because the internet says so even though there's zero proof it's good for you
>>
>>10135612
There are droves of doctors who have dedicated their lives to studying nutritional science you dense fuck. I think they would know over your dumbass
>>
Keto is probably going in the right direction, grains and fruits are good, but nobody needs any processed flour. Hamburger bun, tendies breading, meatloaf insert, burrito wrap, white or even wheat bread, it's all just savory flavored simple sugars. ditto rice and deep fried potato. There's definitely a happy medium, but 90% of the carbs you eat in a day are just very slightly longer chains of glucose than white sugar. Carbs have their place, but when you remove them from your diet you can adjust to a lifestyle where your carbs carry actual nutritional value along with them, not in bread or breading.

I'm not going keto because if I don't eat carbs in the morning, it takes until the afternoon for my energy to come to me and I am already finished with classes. So I will keep my drugs of choice, caffeine and sugar, thank you very much.

OP might want to try google instead of /ck/.
>>

Keto seems to work for a lot of people but it made me tired as fuck, like i literally could not make it through the day without nodding off. And I really didn't notice a difference in weight loss on keto vs regular CICO. I lost 4 lbs of water weight on the first week and stalled for the next 6 weeks.
>>
>>10134486
Bullshit anon. I could eat a pound of bacon on keto but not a pound of broccoli. Missing my veggies is part of the reason why I gave it up.
>>
>>10135710
This may be true but diabetics have a diet similar to keto. Mind you, it is similar in the fact that is low carb. I personally eat under 60 net carbs a day and have for years. And to that piss baby that's bitching about eating an apple on keto. Suck a fucking dick. Moderation is better than dieting. To OP, if you want to loose weight do it slowly. Change your habits and "food in reach". Be safe and good luck.

Ever since I went into keto-acidosis i've been eating a lot less food in general. My portions have gone from a large saucer of 3 meats/grains/dairy + 8oz cup of drink, To A small salad saucer of 1-2 meat/veggies/grains + 4oz cup of drink

Yet, I fel far more satisfied and fiilled with that little portion, over the big ones I used to make, which never made me feel full. Its a weird feeling, but I like it. Means i sped less a month in groceries too. My ingreident budget went from $180 to $100 just for the month alone.
>>

Ketosis and ketoacidosis are not the same thing.
>>
>>10136036
I never said they were. I just said I recently got out from it. It is however a reason I will not do keto. because that state fucking sucked and 0 carb means 0 crunching for my insulin, which is outright deadly for me.

If you have diabetes type 1, you probably shouldn't yeah. Although you can do a mild version of it at like 50-60 net carbs instead of 20. Seems to me that's what you're doing.
>>
>>10136078
I actually came to that by measuring three cups of broccoli and weighing it. Doesn't come to 1lb. Three cups comes to around 17.4 g carbs. I'd say that's about as much as you should get on a standard keto diet. Though people have gone up to 25-30, so you could probably do two more cups and be fine.
>>
>>10136111
Well i'm being treated as type 1 but I haven't recieved my A1C results yet, so we don't know for sure. Weirdly enough though, is i've been getting lower every morning, I was 61 this morning after my Lantus, which leads me to believe my body may very well be producing minimal amounts at the very least.

If this diet works it sounds perfect for me because I dont really like bread and so forth anyhow. What is the most red pilled website or guide to it? Also it seems like alcohol is the biggest problem with this. I drink at least twice a week and it will kill my social life if I dont. Is booze a big no no with this?
>>
>>10136147
You can actually drink a ton of things. Beer, liqueurs, and I think some wines are not okay on keto. Depending on the brand, Vodka, Tequila, Gin, Whiskey, Rum, Scotch, Brandy, and Cognac are all totally fine.

>>
>>10136242

>>
>>10135724
If you buy white all-purpose flour from the store, it's the same as what they use in sliced, bagged breads. Even the 'wheat' variety will have the bran and germ removed, be stripped of a lot of the oils, and be enriched with vitamins to make it just a brown-flavored white flour, with a little more protein IIRC. Even ultra seedy bread will have nutritive grains in a glorified cake. Think of cereals as steak cubes, and bread as meatloaf... with much less meat.
>>
>>10136302
Plenty of carbs meaning I could have five more if I really want.

>>
>>10136560

>>
>>10136605
I never said the average ketoer eats like that. I said they're doing it wrong if they aren't. Keto isn't about eating bacon and spoonfuls of butter. It's high fat, moderate protein, and low carb. 75% fat, 20% protein, 5% carbs. How you get those is up to you, but there is still a wrong way and a right way to do it. Common sense dictates that you don't shovel butter onto your pan with eight strips of bacon and call it a meal. It has to be balanced. You need some semblance of balance.

>>10136619
Not sure if that's right. Fat has 9 calories per gram. Carbs and protein have 4 calories per gram.

>>10136632
I'm pointing out his retarded reasoning.
On top of that most green veggies arent heavy on carbs in the first place AND they're filled with fiber which reduces the amount of carbs further.

You can fill up your plate with green shit really hard when you're on keto.

Carbs on keto means net carbs. So carbs minus dietary fiber. Also minus certain sugar substitutes, like erythritol.

>>10136645
Try MyFitnessPal and scan before you buy. It's helped my a lot, even when off keto. For chopped spinach, 1 cup is 2 net carbs. A small Hass avocado (200g, with skin and pit) has 1 net carb. One large onion is 11 net carbs, so probably avoid those.

whats so bad about carbs
>>
>>10136690
Nothing inherently. Sugars and such are bad, of course. But carbs are completely fine. It's just that on keto, the goal is to enter ketosis. For that, you need to have a low carb diet.
>>
>>10136690
They make some people crave more
>>
>>10136651
I can measure and/or weigh my foods. The thing that's frustrating is allocating enough of the vegetables I want to eat without consuming too many carbs. It's not like all the eggs, cheese, and meats don't have some carbohydrates too, which further restricts how many vegetables I can eat without capping out on carbs. There's a guacamole dip in my fridge that is in the process of going bad, and I don't know if I can eat it without chumming up in carbs. I prefer whole avocados to dip too, and that can have a lot of carbs as well:

https://www.fatsecret.com/calories-nutrition/usda/avocados

>17.5g of carbs in one whole avocado.

So that's 8.75g in a half portion of avocado, if I only eat one half. Maybe I can try to fit it in to the diet, but foods like that make it difficult. I really like crunchy peanut butter, but that's not really an option on keto either, it seems.

>>10136670
I don't see how an avocado has that little amount of carbohydrates in it. Everything else I'm seeing shows them as having multiple times that much, even for small portions.

In regards to MFP, I just downloaded after years of disregarding it, and the UI is really clunky. I've been able to remember perfectly everything I eat for years, but I just need something decent to look up nutritional data with.

http://badges.myfitnesspal.com/nutrition-facts-calories/hass-avocado

So many entries for the same thing. It's going to make me blow my brains out looking for all of my foods like this.
>>
>>10136729
That's why you use the scan function while at the grocery store. It's on the mobile app. Easiest thing in the world.

He isn't. The one he listed has 13.5g of df, so it's only 4 net carbs.
Total Carbohydrate 17.15g 6%
Dietary Fiber 13.5g 54%

What exactly is the point of losing weight for ketosis? I'm seeing people who are like 160-170lbs going OHMYGOD, I CAN LOSE 50 LBS IN 2 MONTHS!, Isn't that a BAD thing? I get it if you're over 200lbs, or higher, and you want to get your life back on track, but whats with all the actual healthy people wanting to starve themselves to anorexia? If you're over 20 and around 150-170 lbs you're perfectly fine. No human being should be under 100 lbs and alive at your age and weight.

I wasn't even aware that the whole concept was centered around net carbs; subtractions by the dietary fiber. I can't believe I've been trying to eat under unadjusted carb values. My mind is blown right now, holy shit.

I'm going to dig into that guac dip later tonight with my eggs. I'm very grateful for this information. It's really going to help me-- thank you both.
>>
>>10136792
In america they don't substract the fiber. In Germany as an example they do.

Avocado is low carb super high fat
>>
Wait wait wait...

Whats a NET carb? I thought it was by grams, Isn't it only 20g of carb a day?
>>
>>10136801
This wasn't even mentioned in ANY guides or videos I looked into before starting keto. I never knew about it because I never paid much attention to carbs so much as having a high protein, cholesterol, and saturated fat intake.

>>10136820
I just looked it up, and had my mind blown. You might have the same reaction:

Dietary fiber - carbohydrates = remainder carb value. It's a gram for gram subtraction, from what I've read. So if something has 2g of fiber and 5g of carbs, the net carb value is 3g. That's my understanding, at least.
>>
>>10136820
"Net carbohydrates are what you’re left with after subtracting the grams of fiber per serving from the total carbohydrate amount per serving. For example, if an item has 20 grams of carbohydrates and it contains 8 grams of fiber, then the amount of net carbs the item contains is 12 grams."

Things like erythritol are also subtracted.

What are you guys talking about? I'm a type 1, and have been in dietary ketosis for years. My A1c is excellent. I use 30% less insulin than I used to. You just have to very carefully lower your basal dosage in stages until you arrive at your true basal dose sans carbohydrates. If you have to abort the mission from hypoglycemia you can just start over again based on your logs. The level of control I have now even surpasses insulin pumps, yet I don't really even have to measure my food. It's fucking rad sailing at 70 mg/dL all day. If you're inexperienced at this, talk to your endo.

I don't think there's anything wrong with complex carbs for most people. The problem is most people eat highly refined carbohydrates like sugars, flours and hulled grains. This robs them of their nutrients. Even when fortified with vitamins during processing, the lack of naturally occurring dietary fiber causes metabolic fuckery like type 2 diabetes, possibly Alzheimer's in old age, and most likely is the cause of most modern heart disease. We are making the carbs bad on an industrial level. All this processed food is utter shit.

I think a lot of people use almond bread. However, you should be getting 400-600 carbs in roughly twice a month on keto (if you are trying to lose weight). Rye, sourdough, and 9-grain are good for those days.

>recalculated my macros because I've started lifting and actively exercising
It's the last value that actually has me worried. Isn't keto supposed to have MODERATE protein? Wouldn't this cause gluconeogenesis and throw me out of keto?
>>
>>10137977
Yes it will, you want probably no more than 50% of your fat as protein
>>
>>10138052
Do you mean calories? If so, I think I can actually get away with those macros considering fat has more calories per gram. Didn't realize that before.

Are you heavily overweight or have specific diseases keto helps against? Then yes. Otherwise no.

You literally can't eat high protein and be in ketosis god dammit. Both posts you quoted tell you about the machanism, gluconeogenesis.
>>
>>10138176
I am aware of gluconeogenesis. It depends on your activity level, sorry if I wasn't clear. If you sit on your ass all day and eat 200g of protein it will turn out poorly for you. If you're lifting, and do not eat enough protein, your lifting will not do much for you aside from burn more energy.
>>
>>10138182
I mean keto and lifting for muscle growth inherently do not work well together for more than just that reason. What's the thought process there? If you want to exercise carbs literally are your best friend and keto limits your protein intake.
>>
>>10138198
https://www.ruled.me/mythbusting-training-on-keto-diet/
>>
>>10138198
I don't see how keto would stop you from building muscle. If your body is fat adapted then it uses ketones and stored fat for energy. You don't need carbs to have a great workout. It all comes to calories for energy. Unless I'm missing your point, I think you're fine building muscle on a keto diet.
>>
>>10138198
Lifting for gains and staying in ketosis helps preserve your lean muscle mass. Just because you're eating a lot of fat doesn't mean your body won't turn to lean tissue for energy, even if you ARE in ketosis at the time. And I've personally found that while in ketosis my recovery times are shorter.

Fuck I wrote a huge post with 1100 words and then accidentally close the thread. Too lazy to write everything again, the site has extremely weak sources, few and very old studies and their own site says that you shouldn't overconsume protein because it kicks you out of ketosis. It's plain wrong to call it a "relatively high protein diet", only compared to a vegan diet or so.

The point is that you are depriving your body of it's primary energy source for explosive exercices (which is like 90% of lifting since you need the stress to build muscles). A diet limiting carbohydrate and protein intake is the worst combination for muscle growth.

Give it a try, maybe you can strive on it but there is an inherent conflict.
>>
>>10137205
Waiting for your peer-reviewed source that is tested for replicability before being published. until then, stop claiming your meme diet has any advantage.
>>
>>10138354
If your body is fat adapted, then you don't need to use carbs for energy. Ketosis allows you to maintain a constant energy level throughout the day with fats. Typically, the ideal time to workout is in the evening and to have your carbs right before. Since your body is fat-adapted it uses glycogen more efficiently, and you don't fatigue like you do on a non-low carb diet. There's also research on fasting for 24 hours, which helps get you back into ketosis fast, and allows for more HGH production at the end. I don't think limiting carbs hurts your gains, and you really don't need much protein to gain muscle. A protein shake will do you fine.
>>
>>10138491
Look, when you make a point and cite something, usually they have to be relevant to each other. You just stated that your brain runs on carbs and then cite something which has to do with low carb vs keto. What's your point? Keto has it's benefits just like any other diet. It's not just simply eating at a caloric deficit.

>I could eat a pound of bacon on keto but not a pound of broccoli.
Hey guess what, you're wrong. Broccoli has 4.4g of digestible carbohydrates per 100g. There are 454g in a pound. If you'd bothered to do the math, you would find that that means 1lb of broccoli contains 19.976g (approx) of carbohydrates. Which is below your daily limit. So you actually can eat a pound of broccoli, you just can't eat an entire bag of Doritos plus a gallon of chocolate ice cream while on the diet, which is what you're really after you stupid fat fuck.
>>

Everyone's health is unique and you have to figure out what shit works for you.

For me, Atkins/keto whatever the fuck you want to call it works. This is the only way I can eat at this point.

I do 2 eggs with bacon every morning usually in bacon fat (or butter), and grilled chicken with vegetables and butter for lunch. Dinner varies. Before when I ate like a horse I'd easily cram 4,000 calories a day, now I get about 1,200 in and am completely satisfied.

I haven't tried any of that almond flour shit.

I've had about a dozen people at work stop me and tell me I've lost a shit load of weight (only 6 weeks in), and proceed to ask me how I did it.

You have to source information like that, bucko. It doesn't "burn fat faster", it just begins using fat as energy. But guess what? You'd have to go through the fat you've eaten through the day to begin burning the fat in your rotund, fat heap you call a stomach. A similar mechanism to someone who eats carbs in a caloric deficit.

2-3 days. Don't forget to use a little more salt than usual and drink 3-4 liters of water every day. The fast track to dietary ketosis is fasting for 24 hours, followed by the standard 20g daily carb limit. The first time you do this, you may feel sick for a few days. This is fairly typical and can be mitigated with increased salt and water intake. It takes a few weeks to be fully metabolically adapted to using ketones for energy. During this period you may have more difficulty doing intense physical activity. Most people feel great after fully committing to it for a while. Good luck!

Right, so eat a handful of salted nuts, a piece of cheese, a piece of dark chocolate or some avocado along with your fat, protein and green vegetables. It's not difficult. I do understand that a lot of people doing this for weight loss had horrible diets and don't know how to eat nutritious foods outside of vitamin-fortified processed crap, but it's really easy if you sit down and plan it out for a couple hours.
>>
>>10142092
Yeah, but some people don't eat balanced and buy into the meme that you just eat bacon and steak all day. Just want to make sure people are getting them somehow, and know to get them, so they don't come back (like a lot of people) and scream about getting sick.

Not him, but here's one with some serious vigor. Tl;dr: The ketogenic diet's TDEE effect is under 100cal/day

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4962163/#!po=45.0893

I like it because it seems more rigorous than most studies done by nutrition scientists. A lot of studies like this have problems with people not cheating.

"We aimed to avoid this difficulty by confining study volunteers to metabolic wards where they consumed, under supervision, a 4-wk run-in high-carbohydrate baseline diet (BD) followed by an isocaloric low-carbohydrate ketogenic diet (KD) for another 4 wk."

Results:
"The weight-adjusted EEchamberwas 88 ± 13 kcal/d greater during the KD period than during the BD period (Table 2;P< 0.0001). Adjusting the EEchamberdata for body composition changes resulted in the KD period having 96 ± 12 kcal/d greater expenditure than the BD period (Table 2;P< 0.0001)."

Which is within the range of error they establish at 150kcal/d.

In my opinion, I find it really challenging to maintain isocaloric intake when on keto. I end up eating a lot of foods that are more filling and manage to do more with less calories than I would eating carb-rich foods. It's more about not dealing with the hunger pangs throughout my day than just losing some weight. When I started I was over 250lbs and really didnt bother budgeting anything so a super simplified model of counting to 20 worked well for me.

I tend to use drops. Two drops in the morning, two drops at night. They're available at most markets next to the water, or in the supplement sections. I use Mio Electrolytes, but there are obviously other brands.

You could also go with gummies, pills, etc. Only thing to worry about is the calorie and carb content in gummies and drinks (like Gatorade).

As far as I know it's just B vitamins, potassium and sodium in what I use. I should probably look into supplementing magnesium and calcium, but as far as I know I get those just fine from my diet.

Spinach, avocado, pumpkin seeds, cheese and dark chocolate (and meats) are how I do my vitamins and shit. Sodium is a non-issue. I'm still alive after years of this. Kinda curious though. I'll go look for those thingers next time I go shopping.

I've had great success in the past doing Keto (losing ~22lbs in 3 months) and I'm doing it again right now to get in shape for the summer
I'm not really overweight (155lbs @ 5"8) but due to wide hips and all my fat accumulating there I look like a childbearing woman at the moment. I only look decent naked if I'm skinny
I don't think it's magic or anything. After all it's just eating less than you burn. But I love pasta etc. just so much that I overeat. So it's easier to skip carbs entirely than to moderate myself
The lazy way works for me, e.g. don't count any calories, just skip the carbs. I also like to fast most of the day. On weekends, I cheat and eat like a pig
>>
>>10143195
Are you smooshing your avocados? This makes the texture even worse. I like to make a simple salad with them. I coarsely dice them, drizzle some olive oil on it, squeeze some lime juice, throw a little salt on there, and fresh cracked black pepper.

If you select fattier sources of protein like eggs, cheese and fattier cuts of meat it balances itself. Think chicken thighs or pork belly. You can always just eat less protein and balance the ratios by adding more fats. Butter, olive oil, bacon fat, sour cream, etc.
>>
>>10143222
I've been afraid of chocolate on keto. Most of the stuff available where I shop is just carbs on carbs. I do almonds, cheese, and spinach a lot. I eat a lot of fish, chicken and beef as well. Been trying to get avocados in my diet, but every time I shop they're all hard as a rock or way too soft. Sodium is a definite non-issue.

I really need to look into pumpkin seeds, different cheeses, and different types of nuts. My diet is really awkward at the moment.

Yeah, as of 4 months ago, my doctor suspects that I might have had an un-diagnosed gluten intolerance my whole life. Makes sense, since I cut out pasta, bread, and a lot of other gluten carbs once I went keto. The other explanation for the increased pooping is that my fiber intake has increased but I doubt that's the case since nearly 50% of my pre-keto diet was leafy green veg already.

>damn really makes you THINK?
No he didn't. He died from slipping on a patch of ice, falling, and hitting his head on the sidewalk. His heart problems were caused by a viral infection that damaged his heart muscle. This is well-documented, you lying vegan sack of shit.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Atkins_(nutritionist)
> Dr. Fratellone treated Dr. Atkins from 1999 until 2002, and also worked with the doctor at the Atkins Center. He says Atkins suffered from cardiomyopathy, a chronic heart weakness. But this condition, he says, was caused by a virus – not his diet: "I was his attending cardiologist at that time. And I made the statement… When we did his angiogram, I mean, the doctor who performed it, said it's pristine for someone that eats his kind of diet… Pristine, meaning these are very clean arteries. I didn't want people to think that his diet caused his heart muscle – it was definitely a documented viral infection."[12]

Thanks, keto, I love you.

Same. I had a kidney stone about ten years ago. I have been on a ketogenic diet for years, yet it has not reccured. There's something to be said about a diet in which drinking more water is a priority I suppose.

I went to the grocery store and looked at the whole section of those flavored water drop supplement things. I could not find any that contained potassium or calcium, so there goes 2 out of 3 of the main electrolytes for those things. Most of them featured B12, however. Good to know, but not useful for me. The Wikipedia page on B12 states that type 2 diabetics who take Metformin are often deficient in B12, so that's probably a good solution for those people. Next time I go shopping I'll look at the main vitamins section to see what has potassium and calcium. I'm still a proponent of getting my electrolytes and vitamins from dark green vegetables, avocados, nuts/seeds, cheese, seafood and various meats.
>>
>>10145517
It does make me wonder about the propagation of fallacious information when it's so easy to find the authoritative sources now. I have a feeling that myth latched onto the popular imagination because the story of a famous proponent of low-carb diets dying of a heart attack is so ironic and the reality of an old man just hitting his head and going into a coma is so boring.

Atkins is a bit different from keto, but both operate on a low/no carb start. Keto keeps to it, while Atkins adds them back later. Atkins is also "eat anything as long as there's no/few carbs" while keto has a ratio of 75%, 20%, 5%. It can however go from 60-75% of calories from fat (or even more), 15-30% of calories from protein, and 5-10% of calories from carbs.

From a vegan website, it looks like they are trying a new tactic where they are trying to make everyone think they're just like them.
>Are right-wing politics and veganism incompatible? No, of course not. It’s just a little barrier that needs breaking down a bit. Some “exposure to documentaries or books on the impact of meat consumption on animals and the environment could help those striving to achieving a vegan diet as their own personal goal” could be all it needs. Just not from some preachy, left-wing, snowflake, virtue signaller… Or whatever.

This is not true. It's based on a flawed assumption that insulin is the only hormone in the body. Seriously you keto people are so fucking stupid and just because you don't know how to count calories doesn't mean shit. the fact that you aren't holding water doesn't mean you lost fat.

>the human body can't adapt
One of the main parts of keto is using fat, a more efficient (slowly burned) energy source than carbs. When entering ketosis, the body starts to use and prefer fat as its source of energy. You're brain dead and know nothing of human biology if you think carbs are that important.

Explain to me exactly how the same amount of calories will cause you to burn more fat if you’re in ketosis. Watching a yet video where someone talks about insulin for 5 minutes doesn’t count. And my point with water weight is that people are mistaking losing water weight and keeping it off for lost fat. Your body is in a constant state of storing and burning fat regardless of your diet, even while you’re gaining weight. Your fat stores move around during weightloss even. A recent study of people who went on crash diets showed that fat around the heart increased quite substantially for a period when the body was adjusting, for instance.

I’ve lost 100 lbs multiple times and monitor my weight fluctuation in relation to macros and salt regularly. Take your mom science somewhere else brain dead ketofag.

Just look at the whole "Putin hacked the election!" bullshit. So far the only thing that's been even slightly credibly alleged is that the Russians got into election systems to look at the voter rolls -- something that literally anyone can walk into their state election commission's office and buy on a CD-R. >I could not find any that contained potassium or calcium, so there goes 2 out of 3 of the main electrolytes for those things
It's easy to find potassium supplements, either in pill form (e.g., potassium gluconate from NatureMade) or as salt-substitute (potassium chloride, brand names "NoSalt", "Lite Salt", or similar). I just bought some of the tablets last week; I had to check, but "gluconate" isn't a sugar so I guess it's ok. I'd prefer the KCl but can't find it anywhere here.

And as far as calcium, you can get chewable supplements in pretty much any nutrition store; the electrolyte drinks sometimes have it too, but most of them also have sugar "for energy". It looks like there's one called "Hammer Endurolytes" which has a bunch of Ca in it. I can't find a full ingredients list to see if it has sugar too.

Vodka and Dasani sparkling water is fantastic. You can have it in moderation of course, but it slows down/stalls ketosis to burn off the alcohol then starts up again. Any hard liquor without sugar, any diet soda usually, and like I mentioned the sparkling flavored waters hide the vodka like you wouldn't believe.

Or very dry wines.

I believe I have been hitting my calorie/protein/fat intake goals, yes. Should there be any doubt, I can consume a casein/whey protein drink to compensate. I like this powder:

https://us.myprotein.com/sports-nutrition/milk-protein-smooth/10852575.html

110 calories, 24 grams of protein, and 2 grams of carbohydrates per portion, making it a solid 220 calories, 48 grams of protein, and 4g of carbs for two large scoops in water. Simple, easy, and very filling. I wouldn't worry about being too full to hit your macros, as you don't have to eat everything in one sitting and wait a full 24 hours to gain benefits from fasting. Many people extend their eating windows, perhaps even up to around four hours or so. You can eat a large meal, then have a protein shake or other meal item an hour or two later, and begin your fast from there.

In regards to water intake, I personally aim for about 6L/1.6 gallons of water daily (more than enough). Really, if you just keep a large container full of water near yourself at all times and take drinks frequently, you'll be well-off.

I'm kind of committed to it because I have type 1 diabetes. I've gotten much better control of my blood sugar eating like this. The fat loss over time was a side benefit. I've always worked out at home with pretty humble, but effective equipment like dumbbells and a pull up bar. Don't let gym fees stop you from trying to be healthier! I used to exercise a lot more years ago on a higher carbohydrate diet, but now that I've pretty much got the diabetes management on keto nailed I can learn how to combine all three. It's hard for me to make a lot of changes at once. There was thread recently with another type 1 talking about lifting on keto, so I've been reading a lot about it trying to figure out a plan. I said I'd try to do it! This winter is driving me crazy, too. I can't wait to go outside and do stuff again.

I assume I went too hard on beef and cooking oils, because most of the rest of my diet was yogurt in the morning and green salad with chicken for lunch.
>>
>>10158185
You're dodging the question, and that's not a good sign.

What kind of yoghurt did you have? Salad is fine for the most part, depending on if you used dressing or croutons. Highly doubt beef and cooking oil were the culprits, considering those have no trans fat. They actually have saturated fat, which is beneficial.
>>
>>10158185
Ok. I eat a lot of eggs, dairy, fish and chicken. I eat 3 avocados and one pound of bacon a week. I eat a serving of different dark green vegetables and some pumpkin seeds every day. The only cooking fats I use are the bacon fat from the bacon, extra virgin olive oil, and butter.
>>
>>10158498
Since he's giving his I'll give mine. Rotation between spinach, bok choy, and broccoli. Usually at least two per day. Up to 4oz of beef, lamb, pork, or chicken. Usually bacon and eggs in the mornings, three eggs and at most four pieces of bacon. Macadamia nuts, almonds, chia seeds and/or peanuts for a snack. Kielbasa, Italian sausage, canned sardines, or salmon for lunch. Cooking oils include avocado oil, grapeseed oil, and coconut oil as my primary. Usually have at least 2 litres of water a day, but I should really be doing way more. Seasonings/toppings can be either dill, rosemary, basil pesto, hot sauce, butter, or mayonnaise.

Differs weekly usually, but that's about the gist of it. None of it is in any particular order. I also take electrolyte supplements, and have a bag of whey protein on standby for workouts since protein demands are higher on those days.
>>
>>10158624
Oh, and I eat anywhere between an inch cube of Camembert or two slices of mild cheddar a day.
>>
>>10157514
>that's pretty
Thank you.
>I don't know how you eat that many eggs
When you go for such a long period of time without consuming anything, and become used to a single feeding period, it becomes more feasible to consume larger quantities of food at once. The sides of feta cheese and avocado help bring the meal together, and can help with the simple taste/texture of the eggs. I ate everything shown in my pictures in one sitting, with water.
>whats your eating window?
I've shifted it a few times, recently. That said, it's either been an established eating time of 9:30~7 AM, or 6:30~7 PM. I take some supplements 30 minutes before, and immediately after my meals. Then I fast for anywhere between 20 and 24 hours.
