putting water into a 6-pack sized mini-cooler is literally how you do it.
Cloudy ice is from microscopic particulates in the water.
Ice crystals form preferentially with liquid water, not around particulates. There's no insulation in a tray, so the the water freezes from the outside in, pushing the particulates into the center and making the cloudy effect. In an insulated cooler, the surface freezes first and the particulates will be pushed down into the water below rather than trapping them in the middle.
You have to cut the block into cubes afterwards, but they're clear as glass.
