This. Also, he'd just turn into kryptonite and beat him.

This fucking idiot literally turned himself into the one thing he fucking knew he couldn't reshape himself from because a child said "herp, liquid is my weakness."

Any one who CAN'T beat Masked Mutant should be goddamned ashamed of themselves.

That book bothered me a lot as a kid because I thought Stine was just a hack getting surface info on comic collectors but after watching all the documentaries on the 90s comic crash I get that he just saw how completely stupid everyone was.

For years in grade school i would take out the books from the library just to look at the covers, i even checked out an episode from blockbusters when i was 8 but got scared and didnt get past 5 min. Later in 2009 CN started airing it and i fucking loved it, this was the only scene that creeped me out realy.

What the fuck man, that shit's freaky.

The parade of heads in the Haunted Mask unnerved the shit out of me as a kid. The mask dude was creepy as fuck too.

Also loved how the guy who played Spider in Say Cheese and Die was the same dude with the camera in the Tale of the Curious Camera. That's great.
>>
>>101044990
The covers scared the shit out of me as a kid. That damn mask book would always appear wherever I went.

I'm not sure that's true. The first one was a bit spooky in that it had a pretty definitive (and not played for laughs) bad end; but even the second book was a lot more casualized. The cover still kind of creeps me out though. As a kid I didn't realize it was supposed to be a leafy hand and assumed it was a zombie.

There were collections/anthologies of short stories that came out pretty late in the series' lifespan and those were pretty 'legitimately scary' relative to most of the other novels.
>>
>tfw teacher told me Goosebumps weren't real books and I couldn't use them for my assignment
Made me feel bad, but she introduced me to "Where the Red Fern Grows" and it ended up being my favorite book as a kid.

How about after one? The first had no jokes in it and was just a horror. The series was always supposed to be a kids book anyway.

Cold Lake is a terrible book. Not because of the writing, but because it's just one whole bad end. The whole book, except for one part, is just shitting on the child. Shame there was no sequel, nor did Sarah appear in the movie as a sad villain.

They weren't really that scary man. I read my first one, How I Got My Shrunken Head when I was 8. I read all of them over the next few years Except Monster Blood 4 and the only time I got freaked out was when the kid got those red splotches on his face in The Headless Ghost.

Well, it's official. I liked them anyway. Just be aware that it's one person doing everyone's voice, so people aside from the protagonist aren't all guaranteed to be completely different. Still, the people do a good job with the multiple voices, although the Slappy in the first book could be better. The guy doing the Maniac does a good job, and it is amusing hearing a girl do it, as it is hearing people do the opposite gender. Take what you will from my spiel.

>>
>>101050179
Pretty much. Now that's some real psychological horror for kids.
>>
>>101046421
Not really. The story's completely different from what the synopsis suggests, and not in a good way. It's more like a really vague version of your typical "teen discovers their true destiny" YA novel.
>>
>>101043833
But can she defeat the Lambs?
>>
I was such a fan of Slappy that I ended up getting this toy ventriloquist doll of I believe Charlie Mccarthy. The company did eventually produce a Slappy but I didn't find out til I was 20. Anyway I kept the thing next to me in a rocking chair because despite all evidence to the contrary I believed it would protect me from scary things at night. I was convinced that if it was the real Slappy I'd be the exception a d he'd be my friend.

Headless Ghost was fucking god-tier. I loved how the TV version built on the ending by having the guide and the others actually be the ghosts from the stories.

>the boy leading them through the house after hours tells them a story about a boy who fell to his death in the dumbwaiter
>he turns out to be that boy
>angrily shouts "How did you like the story of HOW I DIED?!" at the girl when she finds out

That always stuck with me.

It's been a while since i read it, so my memories could be wrong, but o remember while Masked Mutant is a muscular middle age man, his civilian identity (disguise) is in fact a 12 years old pretty girl who like reading romance comic and is very friendly and kind her friend , Is that for real ?

Actually, she reads not!Archie, but this is otherwise accurate.
>>
>>101045844
One of the best books in the series.
>>101047813
The scariness varied by book. The Goosebumps 2000 , Fear Street, Nightmare Room and Haunting Hour books were much scarier on average.

The Haunting Hour TV show barely used any of the books with good endings...

>>
i miss october. here's hoping the streams are as good this year as they were last year.
>>
The Werewolves ones (think there were two) were pretty creepy.
>>
>>101053866
Werewolf Skin was scary because the protagonist had to deal with a werewolf and whoever was wearing the Werewolf Skin.

Full Moon Fever was pure body horror.

Werewolf of Fever Swamp was a mystery that turned scary in the last few chapters

Werewolf in the Living Room was mindfuckery. The cover only tells a small part of the story.
>>
>>101051224
The illustrator for Series of Unfortunate Events does the new printings. It's a shame, because he's really talented and I love his style; but it still doesn't live up to the originals and people will shit on him because of it.

>>101044862
I figured Stine had to have like at least a surface familiarity with comics. He had one story where a kid namedrops X-Force at one point. (His only kid was born in 1980 which would've made him 11 at the age X-Force was out)
>>
>>101054378
The book even mentions Steranko as the credited in-universe creator of the Masked Mutant.

>The Goblin’s Revenge
>Night of The Krampus
>Slappy Vs. The Haunted Mask
>Bats About Bats
>Happily Never After
>Curse of The Were-Children
>Don’t Lose Your Head!
>The Day I Became A Monster
>High Noon at Skeleton Valley
>The Spirit of Halloween
>Little Candy Shop of Horrors
>My Little Demons
>No Escape From Mt. Hypothermia
>Dear Diary, I’m Dead!

>>101043833
Is the first fucking time that I see a decent fan art of worm
>>
>>101056367
>>
>>101056367
Dear Diary, I'm Dead! is actually a Nightmare Room book.
>>
>>101056367
I like most of them. Some are a little meh, like Goblin's Revenge and Night of the Krampus, but ones like Curse of the Were-Children and The Day I Became A Monster are very Goosebumps.

See how many you can come up with rear-cover descriptions for. I challenge thee.
>>
>>101056367
My Best Friend is Evil sounds like the plot of multiple Fear Street books.
>>
>>101049263
I'm actually surprised there's at least one person who focused more on what happened to Shari than Greg in that book.
>>
>>101045748
>The only non-scary one was the one where the MC got raped by eggs

you were a strange boy
>>
>>101053477
iirc, that one was based on an old folktale called The Tailypo. Basically, a hunter cuts the tail off this weird bobcat-like monster called a Tailypo and eats it. The rest pretty much plays out like every other version, and at the end the Tailypo kills him and reattaches its now skeletal tail. In some versions, it rapes him to death.
>>
>>101043624
>being so dumb that an actual child knows the weakness of your powers better than you

I doubt it.
>>
>>101046421
Long story short, the girl discovers she's destined to be a superhero and her cousin is her archnemesis that she's destined to kill. She gets around this by destroying the amulet that powers her cousin and giving her the Shadow Girl amulet instead, since her cousin always wanted to be Shadow Girl.

The book ends with her finding out her mother is also a superhero or supervillain.
>>
What exactly is the point of wearing a mask when you can shapeshift?
>>
>>101059849
Its kind of weird how Libbie, his human form, somehow smarter than him, even when she's just 12 years old. Aren't they supposed to be the same person ?
>>
>>101048934
The bully multiplies due to Monster Blood (Government Edition) and gangs up on the protagonists.

>>101048946
Some of the CYOA stuff came across pretty lewder than was intended.

>that blob monster that binds the main character's female friend and swallows her whole

Not even a vorefag and that felt kinda weird!
>>
>>101059967
Could be a Miracleman situation, where each version has different memories and experiences, shaping their personalities differently.
>>
>>101059967
I got the impression that the Masked Mutant used the Libbie persona to get close to the protagonist and then the MM let his guard down when he was about to finish off the protagonist which led to his death

Honestly I think about the differences our world went through due to 9/11 (our world as in the American lifestyle and thought process).
It depresses me, I was a child and didn’t understand the sub-text of the situation, but it really does suck, the way it changed everything and the lives lost. But, as horrible as it is, I wouldn’t change it. A world more informed about the evils that lie in it, is far more equipped than the one that isn’t.

No, we absolutely shouldve prevented its happening. Thats why i mock 9/11 because i hate the people who died in it whos death were used as a catalyst for everything wrong with the world now

Some of the Goosebump books that got sequels didn't really need them and a lot of the books that never got sequels should have had gotten them.
>>
>>101074352
There were very few sequels though when considering the amount of books. The mask, Deep Trouble, Monster blood, Living Dummy, Say Cheese and Die, Body Squeezers, and the two CYOA books are the ones I remember, aside from the Horrorland books.

>>

True.

Haunted Mask didn't really need a sequel(although the sequel was decent)

Night of the Living Dummy trilogy was pretty good.

Monster Blood didn't need part 3 and 4(3 was decent though)

Deep Trouble 2 gets bashed a lot but I liked it and thought it was better than the original.

The only bad thing I could say about Say Cheese and Die Again is that Shari didn't blow up along with Greg.

Both Body Squeezers were good despite the concept being batshit insane(big guys from outer space breaking people with hugs because they could).

Return to Horrorland(the book not the new Horrorland series)was awful.

Both Mummy books were good.

Mask did need one since there were so many masks.

Dummy 2 was needed because of the first.

Monster blood was just a bizarre series.

2 was an episode in the show, and was pretty nice.

The secend Cheese and Die was silly because Greg was being a jackass by going for the camera again.

I like how the ayys were actually killing folk. They never came back, right?

What was so bad about return to Horrorland?

I forgot the mummy books. The sister in the second or third was a bitch.

Terror Tower was a fun sequel too.

Which books would you have given a sequel to?

>>
>>101074887
The aliens from Body Squeezers never came back unless it got a sequel in the Horrorland series.

Return to Horrorland was basically a more boring retread of the original.

I thought there were only two Mummy books. The one in the Horrorland series was separate from those and actually quite good.

I didn't know that Terror Tower had a sequel.

I would have given a sequel to Haunted School,Cuckoo Clock of Doom, Revenge R Us, Attack of the Graveyard Ghouls, Camp Jellyjam, Egg Monsters From Mars and Beast From the East.
>>
>>101075054
Camp Cold Lake deserved a sequel too just because the protagonist didn't deserve the bad end she got.

Body Squeezers was also a CYOA. Weren't there two funny books while in Egypt, then one in America? Also, although the Horrorland books do count, I didn't because they were obvious. I think Slappy's world and the most wanted series had some sequels to older books.

The two funny books in Egypt were Curse of the Mummy's Tomb and Return of the Mummy. They featured the same cast of characters.

Who's Your Mummy took place in America and was about a mad scientist using mummies to live forever. It was part of the Horrorland Series.

Apparently the next series of Goosebumps books is based around Slappy the Dummy...

I guess the Horrorland books would count. I haven't really kept up with them

Not the Horrorland book. It was the one where the dad brings back a mummy in a sarcophagus who comes to live and attacks the family. I considered it a sequel despite not having the same characters now that I think about it. Honestly, the ending of Who's your Mummy is one of the most disturbing.
>>

>>
>>101076371
The one with the mummy in the sarcophogus is Curse of the Mummy unless your talking about another book.

The Who's Your Mummy ending was kind of heartwarming since the kids used the last bit of immortality elixir to heal their sick grandmother.

What the immortality elixir looked like and its creation was truly disturbing but it was used for a good cause in the end.

>>
>>101050017
For me it was the ending of Attack of the Graveyard Ghouls
>>
>>101076614
What was up with that TV show?

The thing about Haunting Hour books was that things could go either way. If the protagonist got a bad end they and everyone they knew were screwed royally. But if the protagonist got a good end it was a flawless victory for everyone involved.

What was the point of using the bad end books and changing the books that had good ends for the TV show.

It was a good book but I felt cheated by the ending. I wanted to see how he would deal with the real thing.
>>
>>101076865
I guess to make it more adult?
>>
>>101076865
I think they were trying to make it as scary as they could. But that being said, there were plenty of those stories that had happy ending that still managed to be terrifying
>>
>>101074421
And become a lizard-creature on top of it.
>>
>>101076940
Haunting Hour didn't need to be more adult considering that the bad ends we got on the show were tame compared to the ones in the books that didn't get episodes.
>>101076976
Haunting Hour was terrifying in general. Although it was nothing compared to the batshit insanity that went down in Fear Steet.

Getting a good end in Fear Steet meant that you might get killed off or possessed in a future book.

Getting a bad end in Fear Steet was slightly better than Haunting Hour because in Fear Street events in a future book might reverse your bad end.
>>
>>101076918
No, you're thinking of Are You Terrified yet?
Attack of the Graveyard Ghouls was the one where the kid swapped places with some arsonists ghost. Then he spent most of the book having to steal the bodies of various animals/people in order to get back to his. But he ended up in the body of his female friend instead
>>
>>101077042
Supposedly, there are three Fear Street movies in the works. But I don't know which ones
Though it's probably the Cheerleader trilogy
>>
>>101077042
Fear Street was nuts.

Two principals of rival schools arrange a killing game as a way to weed out 'problematic' students. The killing game is hijacked by a cult who started sacrificing the possible victims to revive a ghost or demon.

A serial killer on the beach leads to a time travel arc that involves time vampires and their master(some kind of elterich abomination). After those freaks are dealt with, the timeline is changed and this resurrects a bunch of characters who died in previous books.

Teenagers on a ski trip have to fight off a serial killer, a coven of witches and two rival alien invasion forces.

>>101077138
Dangan Ronpa 1 and 2 borrowed a lot of stuff from Fear Street.

There was a story about a brainwashing tape cassette or CD that forced people who listened to it to commit crimes.

There was also a book about teen delinquents with amnesia at a summer camp who were getting killed off. The plot twist was that a monster was the culprit and that the whole thing was VR.
>>
>>101077591
Wasn't the 'VR' revealed to have malfunctioned in a later book? If I remember correctly, 'the virtual reality' was actually a parallel universe that the kids got sent to by mistake. The monsters from that reality managed to escape and go on a killing spree in regular reality.
>>
>>101077591
Brainwashing people through media predates Fear Street by decades though.
>>
>>101077591
The one where they're trying to identify a serial killer

>>101077670

Taylor Hebert "Skitter" from Worm, which is a webnovel about a bug-controlling villian girl. It keeps getting posted here cause capeshit, and as you have seen from reactions, enough times that some people consider it cancer and get frothy about
>>
>>101077684
What made Fear Street interesting was that the stories could range from murder mysteries, regular mysteries,Scooby Doo plots,Goosebump style stories and some next level mindscrews.

I also liked how Stine used the cast in different roles.A character could be a protagonist in one book,an enemy in another book,an ally or a victim in others.
>>
>>101077830
I always loved it when a character from one of his books appeared in another one, even if it was only for a moment. I like the idea of it all taking place in the same universe
>>
>>101077980
Yeah, that was cool. The Goosebump Horrorland books are similar to Fear Street in that regard.

The worst feeling was when one of the survivors from a previous book got killed or sacrificed thenselves later on.

A lot of the dead did get revived as a result of all the time shenanigans later on though.
>>
>>101078064
The only problem I have with that is that some characters just don't seem to age. Like how Carly Beth has been 12 years old for three separate Halloweens know
>>
When I think back about Goosebumps I remember how thrilled I was with every new release. Every cover was lurid and evocative and the back would tease at upcoming new releases. I now realize that this might be what it felt like to read pulps back in the day.

I also remember there was a part where you find everyone at the resort under the troll's mind control, eating bowl after bowl of the super-strength cereal. Always thought it was a little disappointing that was the one part that didn't go into any further detail.
>>
>>101078127
Maybe Goosebumps uses a sliding time scale like Marvel and DC comics?

That's why I liked Fear Street, characters who managed to survive would move up a grade and past events would be referenced as happening x months ago.
>>
>>101078248
Yeah, they would occasionally do that in Goosebumps, mostly with Evan from Monster Blood. Nut I think it's more common in Fear Street than any of Stine's other series
>>
>>101078345
When reading Fear Street, you had to pay attention.A reference about someone getting killed, a random good luck charm or monster sighting in one book would always come into play in a later book.
>>

I think I read one of them as a kid. Now it sounds like I missed out.

On the whole, I'm pretty sure you're wrong.
While the books had more scary moments, they usually had cheesy endings.

The horrorland book had a comedic ending with a horror showing up at their house and giving them tickets for next year.

Meanwhile, the horrorland episode implied the family either died or gets trapped and tormented for the amusement of horrors forever.

That's a difference.

Shocker on Shock Street is literally just a story of two kids getting attacked and nearly killed repeatedly.

That was only in the TV version.
I suppose you could argue whether that's darker than the book.

Naked, cold, and wet like she had just took a cold shower, for the first time, Libby felt vulnerable , she has no where to go , no power to protect herself, and no friends in this world.....
Wait, she thought suddenly , she does have a friend, Skipper ! that fat nerd boy who she trick,
maybe he could help . She can tells that he likes her when they were together, he just can't hide from his eyes when he look at her.
There is a great chance that he won't help me,

No it wasnt because i still dont know what the fuck worm is, asshole.

You started this conversation by calling me a mong and telling me to find a post that nobody posted, dickhead, dont you tell me about acting like an ass.

I started off by calling you a mong because it's 4chan bantz. When I first read your response I was going to answer you because it was an honest mistake you made, then I read the rest and how you tried shit talking. All I said was you were shit posting and told you to look it up your self, then you got upset so I explained you were acting like an ass and I wasn't going to help. You then started insulting me with multple swears and try to claim that I'm the one who is being a cunt? Read our discussion again and tell me who actually is the ass in this.

Thats all you needed to do you dumb cunt, just be courteous and answer the question in a polite manner like that anon did, instead you do this.

This stupid game of "NUH NUH NO SPOONFEED MONG ASS ASS" was entirely pointless and a waste of both of our time because you decided to swing your e-dick on 4chan.

any storytimes on /co/?

It was about a co where a tribe of bigfoots was near, and a one was rampaging through the camp. I read it like 10 years ago and back then it was really old, made in around 1996 i think. It had a poorly rendered CGI bigfoot on the cover, and it belonged to a series of books similar to goosebumps
>>

Attack of the Jack O Lanterns was about aliens helping kids get back at some bullies on Halloween.

Stay Out of the Basement did have a green plant man that was impersonating the father.

I Live In Your Basement had a rotting plant monster(or something)on the cover but that never happened in the story.

To this day, I think that I Live In Your Basement was the biggest mindscrew that Stine ever wrote. It was truly bizarre.

He had green blood and leaves on his head but he wasn't a full blown plant monster like the book cover implies

I was always partial to this one, mainly because it hit on the exact kind of wishes that a kid of Goosebumps reading age would have made (to be rich, to be famous, to be super good looking) and detailed exactly how those things would fuck you over if the genie granting the wish was kind of a bitch.

Unlike most books that have 2-3 good endings there is only one good ending for the Jaws of Doom. Combined with having some choices like making 1 of 3 possible items or leaving a floor without properly looking it was very easy to lose the run.

Invasion of the Body Squeezers was closer to a Ghosts of Fear Street book than a Goosebumps book.

Ghosts of Fear Street was basically Fear Street for kids but without the stories being connected.

Now that think on it, Ghost of Fear Street was mostly about monsters, mutants, science experiments gone wrong and aliens. There weren't a lot of ghost stories in that series.

That's mundane.

Imagine going back in time and finding knights, castles, dinosaurs, time vampires, weirdos from the future and a cosmic horror that is causing a time portal to expand.

Cuckoo Clock of Doom. Pretty sure it was my first. Time distortion is a bitch to think about. And so is the protagonist's sister.
Least favorite? I don't remember much off the top of my head. I think My Hairiest Adventure was probably the worst I've read.

Funny how he could have raped the fuck out of her for revenge, then went back in time and it would never had happened.
>>
>>101110565
The world is about 6 or 7 years from ending completely in Cuckoo Clock of Doom. There's this quick aside at the very beginning where his dad mentions the clock only keeps dates up to the year 2000. If the kid accidentally knocking a year off the clock means the entire year ceases to exist then it's game over for everyone very soon.

/co/ hates reading and will complain Worm is lit.
/lit/ and /tg/ both complain that Worm doesn't belong on their boards despite being a book and having an RPG. So it suffers from that issue.

I enjoy it and can see why others wouldn't. But all too often the people that hate it seem to hate it for the community (which seems to be based entirely on the above lack of fit) or personal tastes.

The stories not perfect (worst parts are the first few Arcs) but its by no means bad. I would consider checking it out. I personally consider it one if not the best capeshit out there.
>>
>>101111242
I read it recently and I agree.
First few arcs aren't great, and there's some word choice throughout that bothers me, but it's well-plotted and thought out.

Secret Agent Grandma. It's a goofier one, but entertaining.

I am going to ask /ceg/ to see if some of those kids are there.
>>

>The first one was a bit spooky in that it had a pretty definitive (and not played for laughs) bad end; but even the second book was a lot more casualized.
And book 3 was fucking Monster Blood, the worst shit ever. Obligatory Blogger Beware mention.
>>
>>101114836
I'm sure most of /ceg/ would've been affected by Say Cheese and Die Again, but I'm sure there's a few folks in there who are into muscle growth as well as weight gain. Hell, I'm one of them.
>>
>>101065555
>>101065599
What ones actually had unambiguously good endings and not shitty twists or bad ends? I can really only think of How I Learned to Fly and arguably The Cuckoo Clock of Doom. Maybe Calling All Creeps.
>>
>>101106984
I liked it because it's not really trying to be a bad horror story. It's practically a slice of life about a bullied kid with flying powers and in the end he's smart enough to fake having lost his powers so his bully gets all the bullshit of being famous for flying while getting to live a normal life with his waifu and enjoying the ability to fly in secret.

It's a nice change of pace from the rest of the books.
>>
>>101114965
Depends on what you consider bad. The ghost next door ended with the girl saving her neighbor and her reunited with her family in heaven which could be considered a bad twist but I thought it was done well.
Piano lessons can be murder and How I got my shrunken head had unambiguous endings.

>2 was an episode in the show, and was pretty nice.
Actually the show's Monster Blood II had nothing to do with the book's. The TV version was literally Monster Blood on a Plane.
>>
>>101116478
>Jigsaw Jones
I remember that title and that during 3rd grade one kid lit one of the books on fire because his guess for the the solution to the case was wrong.
>>
>>101116263
What's bait? I hated those books myself as a kid so it was always funny seeing Troy agree with me. Unless you mean Blogger Beware itself is bati and then I just don't know what to think about you.
>>
>>101115034
Also I like that it's a book with an actual romantic plot attached to it and not just Platonic Boy/Girl Relationship. I've always been a sucker from romance and puppy love stuff even as a kid but for whatever reason Stine (and his ghost writers) never seemed to think that boys and girls noticed each other at 11 or 12. Granted I know they were written for an audience younger than that even but even being in like 3rd or 4th grade I was still well aware of whether or not I found a girl cute and had a crush on her.

>Jigsaw Jones
Define "unambiguously good". The Werewolf of Fever Swamp's twist is that the ending circumstances are presented as a positive.

I mean, one could make the case that it will eventually turn into a bad end if one tries to compare the average lifespan of a dog to the hypothesized lifespan of a werewolf, but everything becomes skewed when you overthink it.
>>
>>101116826
Why would I care what you think about me? You have shit taste.
>>
>>101116961
They have crushes on the books. Sheena has a crush on Matt in the Horrorland books. I'm pretty sure that the first actual romance was in the movie though. Of course I'm also sure that Fear Street had some romance.
>>
>there will never be a final goosebumps novel by stine depicting all the kids from the books (who weren't implied to die) teaming up to fight monsters

>>101118748

this. this shit right here was excellent for a kids spooky episode. The fear in this is, you have not choice but to become that which you despise and dread most. Its a fun little analogy for kids becoming their parents. also permanent clown make up has a very existential horror to it.
>>
>>101119139
Honestly, I think the story from the book is actually scarier. But it's scary anyway for me because I have pretty bad coulrophobia
>>
>>101119171
Just say a fear of clowns, anon. What's different about the book? Is he molested by the clowns?
>>
>>101119113

>so I got almost all of the original series for free.

>>101119198

>>
>>101119185
The clowns were all actually escaped convicts who used the makeup as a way to hide from the cops. His parents forced him to be a volunteer at the show they were preforming, and they all began beating the shit out of him with 2x4's and they said that unless he joined them they would just beat him to death. So he did
I remembered this actually being a lot scarier than it actually was...

For the most part that is true, with a few exceptions. They're still enjoyable books, and I would recommend them but the way they're written always ruins the twists at the end.
