Mechanical web shooters are lame as fuck.
>>
No they aren't.

I liked the idea of Spider-Man running around with a set of web cartridges and keeping track of how many he can use before he ran out.

Raimi organicfags make me sick.
>>
>>103498305
I like the thought of Spider-Man using his knowledge of chemistry to whip up batches of web fluid, and in some stories having different types of web with neat properties. It plays into his nerdy angle that often gets overlooked.

They're fine as long as Peter is the one who makes them. Not only do they show off his smarts, but they can be a storytelling tool (almost out of fluid, all that jazz) as well. Plus, what's the alternative? Bodily fluid? That's gross as hell and probably stinks.
>>103498498
This as well. As an addendum, I also don't like armored suits or suits with LEDs.
>>
>>103498246
I like the thought of people thinking he doesn't use web-shooters and being creeped out. It justifies the mixed reception he has.

>>103498498

Hello, people with good taste.
>>
>>103498246

How about this. He makes the fluid, but he needs shooters to actually use them.

>Shows off mechanical skills
>No absolutely awful 'ran out of arrows' trope
>Doesn't mean he should technically become a millionaire overnight for creating industrial quality spider silk, because he is the source of the spider silk, he just uses it in machines
>That irritating subplot from ASM2 will never be repeated

How do organic fags suspend disbelief? It's just so blatantly nonsensical for him to have cavities form inside his arms to make room for web glands so his wrists can magically open up and propel web out on command. Even spider sense is easier to justify than web coming out of retractable wrist holes.

No, it's clearly a compromise, what the fuck are you talking about? You're suggesting mechanical dispersal with organic supply. And even as a compromise it's definitely not "entirely new," some fence-sitting coward makes that same pitch every time we have this thread.
>>
On the one hand I think mechanical web shooters are cool as fuck
On the other, it makes me think how the fuck Peter was the only person in the world to be able to manufacture the web fluid as it is, considering he is a fucking teenager nerd with no resources.
I mean sure at the beginning no one thought of that, but after Spidey gets popular in his universe, theres no excuse for someone to not make it.
>>
>>103498246
just combine both, organic web with webshooter for versatility.
>>
there is literally no reason why black panther can't make web shooters and use them
>>
>>103498726
Explain to me how the wall clinging ability always makes sense no matter what suit he's wearing then.

You literally explained all that's needed of the wrist gland thing and if you use the same explanation some writers use for his wall clinging through suits, he should be able to manipulate his wrist glands the exact same way.
>>
>>103498911
Here you go:
>A panel of biologists and physicists on the History Channel’s Spider-Man Tech suggested the barbed-hair on his fingertips (from the movie) could have the same effect as the miniature scopulae hairs on the ends of a spider’s feet.
>You literally explained all that's needed of the wrist gland thing
I explained why it was such a bad idea that it not only isn't realistic but rather isn't even fictionally plausible. Why the fuck would that happen in his wrists? The only way that would make sense is if he deliberately made web shooting located there which is exactly what the mechanical explanation allows for. There's no spider with web glands inside body parts analogous to human wrists.

His claws are also made of something that already exists in the human body, Peters body evolving just enough to create an entirely new system that produces something the human body never intended but not getting other weird spider adaptations is way more bullshit . Even spider sense makes some amount of sense because humans have a basic level of situational awareness and raising it up a thousandfold would probably make someone a lot more aware.

Mechanical web shooters are fine since arguably Spider-man does not have spider powers, and is just mutated and named himself after getting the thing that gave him the abilities.

In universe, there's plenty of characters with entirely ridiculous tech that they could have never realistically made with their resources, or that someone hasn't replicated. You could argue that Spideys shit is just really impractical because it dissolves after a few hours, and most people assume he creates it naturally.

Also, holograms/super hi-tech gadget shit like in Homecoming is the lamest shit ever. I was hoping when he got the suit taken away, he would make his more basic version of it at the end, but instead lmao got it back.

I loved the 90's TAS depiction of them. I loved that he had these BIG AS ALL FUCK plastic gauntlets stuffed under his costume, and they only ever got mentioned when the show needed to create drama. That's my favorite 90's cliche right there.

Literally neither of those is true. He could run out of organic fluid (like literally every living creatre can run out of bodily fluids) and he could still have webectile dysfunction except he can't create web instead of having trouble shooting it.
>>
>>103502222
Yep. The Raimi movies even went one step ahead of this by making him end up with a worse predicament than running out of webbing. He simply stopped having spider-powers because he felt bad about himself.

>and in some stories having different types of web with neat properties
This is the important part I think. Peter losing against an enemy and then updating his own tech just like his enemies have updated theirs is a pillar of his character. Removing impact webs and non-conducting webs etc. etc. just because you want to give him an explicitly spider-like superpower just lessens the storytelling and doesn't bring as much to the story table.

>>103502065

>Even spider sense makes some amount of sense
That's the part I never understood as a kid. Do they have different spiders in New York or something? Because I've never been unable to squash a spider because it could tell it was in danger, they're fucking easy to get. Flies on the other hand fly away at the last second like Spidey usually does.
>>
>>103508459
It's probably just your typical Silver age sci fi misinterpretation/embelishment of some cool science they heard. I vaguely remember hearing they said they based it on Spiders feeling vibrations to sense danger, and it got pumped up to Spider-sense which just got more and more ridiculous.
>>
It's hilarious that Marvel and DC are full of every imaginable kind of superhero with every imaginable kind of power, but where people draw the line is Spiderman being able to shoot spiderweb from his wrists. That completely breaks their suspension of disbelief. A man with spider super powers being able to create spider webbing? Whaaaaaat?! Thanos is fine though.
>>
>>103508710
It's hilarious that Marvel and DC are full of every imaginable kind of superhero with every imaginable kind of gadget, but where people draw the line is Spiderman using mechanical web shooters. If it ain't broke don't try to fix it with your retarded organics.
>>
>>103508710
The problem is it's a regression of his character. His web shooters are his main gadget. He also has web trackers and makes other gadgets for specific situations, but the sheer variety of weaponry he can employ with different web cartridges means organic webbing just completely dumbs down his character.
>>
>>103508710
Well Thanos wouldn't be created for another decade and even then probably wouldn't be near his status he'd eventually achieve.
However I think ultimately Spidey was originally pitched to Stan as a straight up gadget hero and got reworked into what he was but Ditko really held onto the smart guy aspect.

organic webbing
+ more spider-like powers
+ Spider-Man can fight any time with webs without slapping on his web shooters
+ infinite ammo
- iconic hand motion makes no sense since he doesn't need to press anything

mechanical web shooters
+ shows off Peter's intelligence
+ iconic hand motion makes sense since he needs to press a button
- web shooters can break
- finite ammo/need to switch cartridges
- more difficult to fight in civs if he can't find time to wear them

Organic webbing is objectively better plus it gave us Spider-Man 2 and that cool fight scene between Peter and Harry in Spider-Man 3.

He's not Cyclops. There ain't no infinite ammo just because it's organic.
And how the fuck is the chance of the web shooters breaking a negative? That just leads to more varied fights because the writer can have his greatest weapon removed so he has to think outside the box. Same thing with having to switch cartridges, it's only bad with shitty writers who just has it happen mid-swing for some pointless half-second drama. Also you forgot the part with with mechanical web shooters he can develop a thousand new webs to adapt against his foes, again displaying his intellect and opens up the story-telling avenue of showing him learn from fights and come back stronger as well as varying the fights. That's a solid plus.

You're blinded by your partisanship.

There are only negatives in terms of practical strengths and weaknesses.
For building a story, they're all positives as they give more options to the writer.
>>
>>103509031
>infinite ammo
But a fuckmassive reload time. Once he's out, he's out. He can't just pop in a new cartridge.

>Spider-Man can fight any time with webs without slapping on his web shooters
Doesn't he always keep an emergency compact variant of his web shooter around?

Also, organic web shooters means he's limited to a single web type and can't use preprogrammed web formations like the classic safety net in case he needs to stop something in a hurry.

We already had this thread a thousand times and the perfect solution already came up. Organic web shooters with limited use, mechanic web shooters as back up filled with synthetic webbing.
>>
>>103509440
>let's have both!!!
How about no, that's a retarded useless change and you can fuck off with your fence-sitting.
>>
>>103509054
From an orifice near his ass.

The problem with organic webbing from a spider mutation. Is that the webbing comes out from places convenient to human use.
>>
>>103502013
>>103502139
No, it denotes self awareness that you are being a fag, you fagfag.
>>
>>103509352
>organic spider-man can get special stuff if he puts on some web-shooters
Yes, and? The webshooter variations are indeed cool, but they also come with added baggage. That baggage is a horrible origin story.
>peter parker gets bitten by a spider
>doesn't get the most iconic feature of spiders
>instead, he wastes time and money developing a brand new compound to make what is basically just rope, but spider themed
>he does all this because he thinks that swinging on goddamn buildings like tarzan is a good idea
Good thing those web variations aren't exclusive to webshooter Spidey. We can also get them with organic Spidey.
>peter parker gets bitten by a spider and gets all the spider's powers
>peter tests out those powers and learns that the webs he produces are very strong
>he finds out that he's able to swing on buildings with those webs
>peter's web powers are very limited however, so he studies them and creates synthetic webbing using what he learned
>he creates webshooters filled with synthetic webbing that help him fight bad guys without overexerting his powers
Now you have webshooters without making Peter act like an insane person.
>>
>>103509481
The organic webbing gland is in his anus.
>>
>>103509532
>he does all this because he thinks that swinging on goddamn buildings like tarzan is a good idea

But it is a good idea.
>>
>>103509532
>he does all this because he thinks that swinging on goddamn buildings like tarzan is a good idea
>implying it's not
Also, it's fucking retarded to rewrite his origin just to have him use webshooters in the end anyway. Dude got bit by a spider and got mysterious powers from it and decided to base his superhero identity on spiders. It's that fucking easy. Ant-Man has less reason to base himself around Ants, and all of Spideys animal themed villains have no powers from those animals. They just decided on a theme same as Peter and Pym.
>>
Spiderman shooting webs out of his ass
>>
>>103501711
no way, gayfag
>>
>>103509601
>>103509574
It isn't, if you're a sane person in a world where this never happened before. You only think it's a good idea now because you got so used to 500 different Spider-Dudes swinging around in New York City in your comic books and movies.
>Also, it's fucking retarded to rewrite his origin just to have him use webshooters in the end anyway.
It's called having a more coherent origin story that doesn't paint your main character as a mentally insane person.
>Dude got bit by a spider and got mysterious powers from it and decided to base his superhero identity on spiders.
If he were just a dude who decided to base his powers on spiders, he'd just throw ropes and bolas around instead of >developing brand new technology just to swing on buildings. No normal person would ever have that come to their mind, ever.
>>
>>103509665
>No normal person would ever have that come to their mind, ever.
>normal
>Spider-Man
>>
>>103509665
This might come as a surprise to you, but superheroes aren't meant to be normal people.

Also, if I got the power to run on walls coupled with amazing acrobatics but didn't have any way to fly or run fast etc I'd definitely opt for running on skyscrapers and shit. Finding a way to use web like the spider that bit me to swing off them is just the next step.
>>
>>103509665
I already told you. He made it for a stage gimmick, fag.
>>
If he can't produce web on his own then he's just a tough, resilient and determined guy who can climb walls.

He's Cockroachman.
>>
>>103509665
Why dont you just use a torch like a normal person instead of super heating metal filament with an electric current, Davy, you crazy cunt?

I had to live in a basement for a while where they had big spiders. No description I could give would properly explain how fucking fast these fuckers were. They could teleport to the other side of the room in the BLINK of an eye. It was like trying to smack a bullet out of the air.

that's like calling your tear ducts eye pussies

>This might come as a surprise to you, but superheroes aren't meant to be normal people.
They are. They're supposed to be "normal" so people can relate to them.
>Finding a way to use web like the spider that bit me to swing off them is just the next step.
Spiders don't swing across the city on their webs though. They just use it like rope.
>>103509823
Retarded nigger. I remember I told you that developing brand new technology just to make people excited is a retarded thing to do. A sane person would just buy silly string or use rope to get people hype about the Spider-Man.
>>103509869
>comparing a person who spent his entire life looking to make a revolutionary discovery to a high schooler who is somehow also the leading expert on spider webs at 15 and thinks that swinging around the city on them is a better idea than improving it, selling it, and making the world better afterward
I'm done here. Good night, you fags.
>>

yeah. the only reason we can get over on spiders is because we're so much bigger.

hey buddy fuck you, learn your goddam history

Spider-Man is a 1960's hero, you know wtf that means? That fucking means his whole goddam shtick is fucking gadgets, gadgets and super science shit out the fucking ass, you can thank James Bond for that. Fucking hell none of Spider-Man's powers are even spider themed. His sticking to walls is a bio static power and his spider sense is mild telepathy not spider related whatsoever.

You want bio horror shit you move to the late 70's and 80's, you know why? Because of Alien, Venom is literally a fucking rip off of Alien as are hundreds of other characters that's why he's an organic horror that looks the way he does and is a bio horror unlike Spider-Man.
>>
>>103510105
Why? Were they selling web shooters?
>>
>>103510123
?
>>
>>103510078
Are you implying he should have started using ropes and become rope-man instead?
>>
>>103510144
That's why they needed gadgets, to sell toys so kids could be like their hero of choice. You can't buy radiation.
>>
>>103508773
That is my problem with Raimi Peter honestly, he doesn't really come off as a smart guy.

That makes no sense. And it takes away from the Symbiote making webs for Peter when he bonds with it.

That was one of the things I hated about Spider-Man 3. We're told the Symbiote is improving him, but we see virtually no difference in his physical capability.
>>
>>103510578
they reduced the symbiote to roid rage and failed to explain that it took some of him into itself and imbued those powers onto Brock while bonded, no one ever does the symbiote justice
>>
>>103501669
you are a nice person
>>
>>103509306
Nigga, spider don't use shoot web out of it hands!
>>
>>103510578
And the symbiote originally didn't even improve Spider-Man's abilities. It was literally just a costume that could turn into any clothing he desired and gave him infinite webbing. It was the 90's cartoon that later added in the ability enhancing capabilities.

Organic web with convenient wrist shooters is the perfect compromise because it shows off peter’s smarts and ingenuity without having him completely asspull a formula for a revolutionary super compound in his basement at like 15 with no budget.

Peter should be a nerd who can do some science shit to help himself out, yes, but he absolutely shouldn’t be a richards/pym/stark tier comic book superscientist, otherwise it raises the obvious question as to why he isn’t inventing absurd sci fi gadgets on a constant basis like the other superscientists.
>>
The other problem with webshooters is they’re kinda fragile. Spiderman has superhuman durability, a plastic gadget he whipped up in his garage doesn’t.

Heck, disabling his web abilities by smashing them aside, what happens when a web cartridge gets crushed and exposed to air all in one go?
>>
>>103511370
What, you don't think we should retcon 80 years of Batman and have him be a person with bat powers? I mean, it makes more sense, he is BAT MAN.
>>
>>103511404
a burst of sticky foam covering everything in about a four meter radius. Peter's done that intentionally a handful of times. its easier to break free from that properly spun webbing but it can buy a second or two since nobody expects it
>>
>>103511375
>why he isn’t inventing absurd sci fi gadgets on a constant basis like the other superscientists.
he is though. First time he fought Vulture he invented a gizmo that disrupts his flight harness. First time he fought Lizard he invented a human serum to counteract Connor's lizard serum. he invented his spider tracers, which emit a signal his spider-sense can detect. the first run of ASM had pretty much every fourth story involve him whipping up a gadget or figuring out someone else's life's work in like ten minutes of reading their notes
>>
>>103502139
So you’d be a faggotfag?
>>
>Hey, Stan.
>Yeah, Steve?
>How do Spider-Man use his web?
>I don't know, his ass maybe?
>Stan, that's fucking stupid. We can't him swinging around the city with his ass.
>Then how did he shoot web, Steve?
>I don't know, wasn't your early idea that he use a gun that can use web? Why don't we use that?
>I don't know Steve, that's doesn't seem practical.
>What about I make it a wrist web shooter ?
>Sure let's go with that
>>
>>103508814
Why doesn't Batman have fly???¿?
How can he see bata are blind?¿?
>>
>>103502400
No, it's still good.
>>
>>103512097
Because he doesn't have radioactive bat powers, you spic.
>>
>>103512217
Spider-Man doesn't have radioactive Spider powers. He got radioactive powers from a spider and named himself after it, which plays into his whole respect and responsibility thing. It also means he could stop being Spider-Man at any time, but he chooses the weight of his actions. You give him webs, he can never stop being Spider-Man.
>>
>>103512217
>Hawkman has mystical hawk powers, but needs mechanical wings to fly.
>This is fine.

>Spider-Man has mystical spider powers but needs mechanical webs.
>REEEEEEEEEE

Don't even come at me with "but katar hol!" when Carter and Katar have been an amalgamated mess for decades.
>>
>>103498246
Lol ok little guy, go do your fucking homework
>>
Organic web is just as reasonable in a comic book as every other mutation. It's bs magic science, we roll with it.

Mechanical shooters beg the question: the webbing can be cooked up en masse by a teenager on a budget, and a wrist sized cartridge can deploy thousands of feet of a material both strong enough to hold up a truck, yet also completely biodegradable within hours.

Every fire department, emt team, rescue helicopter, police, and military would be all over something like that.

The comics have tried to hand wave it by saying the degradation over time makes it worthless, but that just doesn't fly.

It works in the MCU since we already have stark tech, but in most other universes mech shooters break willing suspension of disbelief.
>>
>>103513801
Peter tried patenting it, but it's impossible without compromising his identity.
>>
>>103498853
Theyd have to make the webbing and the shooters, but even then they couldnt apply it in the same way. The strength and agility it takes to web swing and all
>>
>>103501711
>>Please stop
Whats this bitch-fag on about?
>>
>>103502732
very useful since it saves on cleanup

>>103508773
But gadgets and organic webbing aren't mutually exclusive. He can still build shit with organic webs, but people act like you can only have a smart Spiderman with mechanical shooters or a retarded Spiderman with organic shooters.
>>
>>103514263
At that point making it organic becomes redundant or nitpicky or whatever.
Him just having a synthetic web fluid is far simpler than him having organic shit he then works into his gadgets. It's just begging to complicate the origin of his webs in way that detracts from the point of both mechanical and organic. He's neither as smart nor is his power streamlined. It's a compromise that pleases no one.
>>
There's absolutely no advantage to Organic aside from "LOOK HE LIKE A SPIDER NOW." And the downsides are vast (Peter can never show his wrists under any circumstances, Peter can lose his webs forever if the spinners are damaged enough, Peter can't have someone else pose as him without begging the question of why he even has organic webs, Peter is using his intellect more sparingly, Peter can not modify webs without creating tech and undermining the point of organics, etc).

Only casuals, morons, and autistic fucks who can't get over the idea that spider powers ONLY gave him wall crawling and heightened senses want organics.
>>
>>103511823
>original character do not steal
>his name and backstory don't matter

Ditko's a genius but man, he seemed like an insufferable cunt.
>>
>>103502195
I wonder if he could make better fluid with more expensive/purer ingredients
Also probably the reason he's not always sporting non-conductive webbing, it's a burden on his wallet
>>
>>103514818
Except he came up with the backstory too.
Stan came up with the names and dialogue/narration, and even a good chunk of that is just revised versions of Steve's base script.

Proof: Kirby's backup in one of the first ASM issues changes Peter's demeanor and syntax entirely, almost as if the guy who writes FF wrote that story. This is absent from Ditko's Dr. Doom issue and the initial FF clash.
