I've been neglecting my unrelenting & endless backlog lately, so I decided to splurge a bit.
No pics, but
>Doom Patrol omnibus
>Multiversity (SC)
>All-Star Superman (SC)
>Final Crisis 10th anniversary omnibus

I was initially looking at Absolute ASS, but I just can't justify spending 90 eurobucks on it right now. What is the general consensus on Absolute, anyway? Some of the books that have gotten treatment are a little puzzling, IMO and the prices vary wildly. I have Sinestro Corps War and Batman & Robin, and while I love them both, I really don't see the point in collecting everything in the format. ASS is a bit saddening since I know it looks great, but it costs nearly as much as the colossal Final Crisis omni.
>>
>>103980549
Good, one is uzamaki which is basically his main work. Tomie is a bit less connected but I enjoy more. The quality of the books are great with some colored pages sprinkled in.
>>
>>103983485
If you can justify spending that much on Final Crisis omnibus where 60% if not more of it is tie ins that are either not very good, don't have anything to do with the main story or most of the time both.... then you should definitely get Absolute All Star Superman. Absolutes are the best.

>>
Also, waiting for my order of DOKUDAMI TENEMENT to arrive
>>
>>103983898

How does Ito's Frankenstein compare to the other releases? Heard this one was better than all the previous hardcovers. I need a new series to read, how is Birthright? Heard lots of cool things about it.
>>
>>103983936
Simply grabbed Frankenstein cause it looked nice, I'm aware of Ito's usual quality and "whynot it's 40% off". I'll probably save it for some dark and stormy night.
>>
>>103983936
Birthright is pleb trash.
>>
>>103983977

Get Fragments of Horror next, nice little collection then I suggest moving onto Uzumaki. I own all of Ito's work in hardcover so far along with Dissolving Classroom but I haven't picked up Frankenstein or Cat Diary yet, Cat Diary just looks pretty boring but I'll get it for completionist reasons.
>>
>>103976833
While it's very easy to believe he had cancer, the whole "draining up" thing and the "stroke" can both be explained by alcoholism, which seems more likely considering as soon as Adams said he was helping Frank with the booze, he started to look better.
>>
>>103984032
A friend gifted me the cat diary one.
It's pretty fun and good for a casual laugh. It's basically if Ito did a "my daily life" webcomic about his cats. Just very basic and fun stuff.
>>
>>103984095

It doesn't seem as experimental as his other books but I'll definitely get round to buying it.

>Hows the quality of those essentials senpai?

Decent. I've got the Court of Owls Saga one as well. Planning on getting Lemire's Green Arrow.

Skipping Tomasi's Batman and Robin Essential because DC changed it from 14 issues to 8 issues.

Skipping Death of the Family Saga Essential because it's only the 5 batman issues and a hardcover for some reason. None of the tie-ins which is lame.
>>
>>103984032
I like Cat Diary because it's something different. Ito to me always felt too one note, good at what he does but he doesn't branch out at all.

if you want it enough, go for it. I believe that's the only alex ross vampirella cover. If you're gonna spend big on a cover, alex ross is the man.

>>103991495

>>103995181
I would go for it. 1. Alex Ross covers are a good bet and 2. Vampirella is an artist character, as in good artists flock to draw her and that she is well known for art (even though she has had most of the greatest comic authors write her as well)
>>
>>103995423
Not him, Why are Alex Ross covers a good bet?
>>
>>103995470
Because he's probably the most famous artist working in comics these days and he's a legend in the business.
>>
>>103995470
People will buy an Alex Ross cover just because it's an Alex Ross cover. I imagine that's part of the reason why you (or that anon) want the cover in the first place. Alex Ross is THE cover artist.
>>
>>103995532
He's more famous in Superhero comics, but yeah his covers are famous as hell. Vampirella has different artists that she is famous for, but in terms of cross over with superhero stuff Alex Ross is the one to go with. Texeira is probably a far more famous Vampirella artist but he's not as known in superhero comics. But you have all sorts of famous artists doing her, even David Mack
>>
>>103995594
I'd say Frazetta is the most famous
>>
>>103995608
If you mean most famous artist, yeah probably. But famous Vampirella artists are probably Jusko, Lisner and Conner are some of the most famous Vampirella artists

Physical is a better experience, but it’s FUCKING expensive . Spend your money on other things if you don’t have money to burn and just read digital. Maybe just get physical of your faves, or the classics like Watchmen, All Star Superman, etc

In one hand, you can spend infinite money on it, or you can just burn 100 dollar, and get 3 cubic feet paper from the '90s.

I would recommend to buy some collected stories from a secoundhand store (watchmen is common like the 50 shades of grey books)

Pirate new issues, look for good deals and discounts on old stuff that's newly collected.
Don't buy trades or Omnis or such at your LCS, just floppies if you want them.
For instance, I've got the Just Imagine omni. It costs $75 off the shelf. I paid $25. I'm eyeing a DC Archive Edition of some Golden Age Batman. It would cost $50, this place is selling it for $8.

I bought a damaged pack, that was send back to amazon.
I wrote to the publisher, when they announced the "reprint" of only the box.
I got the torn-up box and the perfect books.
Now in november, the publisher send me a new , empty box.
Now I have a perfect box, with perfect books, for half a price, when the box-set was OOP everywhere.
Its available now for a higher price (it was 140 euro, now 165)

Yeah, and even then he mainly stumbles when it's an editorial driven book. The Sentry was pretty good. And I've been meaning to pick up Roughneck.

Lemire is one of the writers who you can tell is phoning in his mainline superhero work. His passion projects are his creator owned stuff. Essex County, Underwater Welder, Sweet Tooth, Black Hammer, Royal City, etc. Honestly? Best writer of the decade.
>>
>>104035096
The biggest influences that come to mind are:

Ultimates 1 & 2 by Millar
New Avengers by Bendis
Astonishing X-Men by Whedon

Those comics set the "tone" of the MCU. Then there are individual storylines that are drawn upon like Winter Soldier, Demon in a Bottle, etc. Definitely read the Ultimates though. That comic was literally written to be a pitch for an Avengers movie. The characters are even drawn to by like actors Marvel wanted to use. Tony Stark is drawn to by Johnny Depp, and of course, Nick Fury is drawn to be Samuel Jackson. There is even a scene in the comic where they talk about who would play them in a movie, someone asks Nick Fury, and Nick Fury smiles to the camera and says, "Why, Samuel L Jackson of course".

>Who cares if it doesn't fit on your shelf
I mean, I get that it's 10 feet tall, but it's Jack Kirby and the introduction of Galactus. I'm a fairly solidly DC guy and I'd like that.
The size of it just means that you have to get creative. Put it on a stand, hang it from your wall. Fashion a coffee table with a glass top and a velvet lined bed for it to set in.
>>
>>104038291
Exactly. You FIND a place for something like this. Len it against the wall if you have to. Look at the fucking thing! If it were 100 dollars I'd understand, but it's so cheap I wonder how they make any money on the thing. If you slice it into thirds and stack them on top of each other you have a book thicker than any omnibus, but for a fraction of the cost.

>>
>>104038533
>It was dumb but I can't spend that kinda time on something like that.
You can't lean it against the wall? Or put it on a table/dresser? I just hope the thing is still available when you want it in the future. I never shill for products as hard as I've shilled Behold Galactus.

You get an automatic loyalty discount of 2% after you make a purchase. So it's best to make one small order, then make your next order larger to take advantage of the discount. Sometimes they'll send out random 3% discounts, but they don't stack.

The "funny" thing is, I already own a copy, bought it last year, new and unopened, still shrinkwrapped. But since it was still shrinkwrapped for four years after its' initial release, nobody knew that it was damaged - a bunch of pages were folded together. And since it was shrinkwrapped for four years after its' initial release, those pages became stuck together in a way that one couldn't un-stuck it (without help from a professional bookbinder). Unfortunatelly, I don't have the pics I took of it to share the morbidness.

Paul Jenkins is doing an IDW series right now, that's an easy find. Only `1 issue in and I'm liking it

I dunno, I've had full billy's for a year and there isn't even any warping. people here assured me they wouldn't last, but they are.
>>
>>104075825
too late i done scalped them for a profit.

>>104076033
it takes more than a year to fail unless you treat them terribly.
>>
>>104075248
Tailspin is cool, Funko Pops however, are shit.
>>
does anyone use the metal cabinets that are often found in offices for storing their collections?

I think they've gotten a lot better in terms of design but the quality still suffers, but you get what you pay for.

The Robbies are the only ones that work.
The rest kind of suck.
>>
>>104076973
The robbie ones are being turned into Custom blaze and ketch when I get some time, I don't care for robbie.
>>
Finished my Demon Knights collection. Also picked up Buddha and Vinland Saga's first volumes. Looking forward to reading those.
>>
>>104077412
Vinland Saga I remember being alright, and I usually hate manga.
>>
This was a good thread
>>
>>104078050
I love you /shelf/
>>
>>104076674
I wonder what the sell-through on those was.
What did you want to get specifically? I remember J H Williams III was upset that Promethea didn't get that treatment (and it was apparently part of his deal to do Overture).
>>
>>104078406
I don't know what the sales or print numbers do be, but they generally sell out. The Sienkiewicz one just released the past few weeks is already out of stock everywhere.

I'm just more annoyed at the long-term implications of their abandoning the line. I know IDW's Artist Editions guys have contacted DC about collecting certain works but were told no - and now that DC/Graphitti Designs aren't doing em themselves it leaves a whole lot of work off the table.

IDW haven't released a DC collection since last year, so looks like it's all but done

coming from the team who brought you an omnibus with missing dialogue and pages in the wrong order this doesnt surprise me

There's like six people in that office and they seem to focus on the collections of new stuff
>>
>>104076279
metal can have condensation form on them.
>>
>>104077441
Nice. I'm trying to branch out and read more. All the stuff I read is casual as fuck (and I know these aren't really exceptions), but it's just nice to read things that aren't shonenshit sometimes.
>>
>>104079188
Give Fullmetal Alchemist a try. Best manga I've read
>>
>>104078690
I wonder if AT&T is meddling. I predict that department getting even worse at reprinting stuff.
