Responding to the anon who asked me the publishing question last thread... basically I just did my research and kept an eye out for any publishers who were printing material similar to my own. One comic that is sometimes shared in this thread is Jasper Gold, the creator is a good friend of mine and similar in tone. I figured if he got published I had a shot, and sure enough they responded to my inquiry, even though my proposal was for over 120 full-color pages.

So you should probably be documenting publishers, tracking their news, and seeing what they are publishing at the time to figure out who you should approach. Don't just blindly submit comics, tailor your pitch to them.

tl;dr The Goonies Meet Jackie Chan.

It's a "practice" comic, meant to help me get better with actually making comics and figuring out a good work flow before jumping into ideas that are much more my own. Highly influenced in style by Dragonball, if that wasn't obvious enough.

the design here is all great imo. I would review these things:

- the asymmetric colour in the torso doesn't really work. Either go symmetric or balance it with another asymmetry.
- pointy fingers don't fit, the rest of the design is very blocky / solid, so maybe square or blocky fingers similar to the hair could work better
- the spear just needs rebalancing, but the overall idea with the black body and purple tip looks great to me

Also I can't tell but are the eyes fixed shape or can they emote? They could get much more expressive if you let them follow the expression the brows are making, and if you do it while keeping them triangly I think that'd look amazing

You're in denial. Maybe they're not carbon copies in the narrative sense. I don't know if this is a Dragonball fanfic or an original story. But they're certainly copies in design. It's fine though. It was just pointed out that it's a practice comic.
>>
>>104002336
It's architecture, actually.
But sexual connotations are fine. Giger's landscapes, buildings and creatures are almost entirely comprised of sex organs, and he's one of the most influential fine artists for the medium of comics.
>>
>>103991948
How did you make those backgrounds? They're stock photos you edited to be black and white, extracted the lines and then pasted in, right? But how did you arange them for shape, especially in the first panel where they form a kind of clearing?

These first two pages are very atmospheric by the way, they'll be an instant hook to many readers. Good job.

File: image.png (231 KB, 540x694)

>>104002832
The line between hommage and rip-off can be very thin. Even professional artists experience blow-back for copied characters from time to time. Pic related. A much more subtle case than this one, btw.
You say that only the Toriyama style was coppied and only for one character and that's certainly a way to look at it. But if the first character that ever appears in a comic looks exactly as a character by one of the most famous comic artists ever then that's certainly a bold move that can massively backfire. I don't understand why you're trying to argue about that.
>>
>>104003311
not that what you're saying is true, but you've gone beyond moving the goalposts to changing to an entirely different sports field.
>>
>>104003379
How is bringing up an example moving the goalpost? You lost this argument the moment you conceded that the character is drawn completely in Toriyama's style. I'm not even saying that it's inherently a bad thing, but you outright refuse any criticism that comes with the territory of adapting another artist's designs for your own works.
>>
>>104003566
I mean it's within toriyama's wheelhouse but it looks as different from dragon ball as the individual seasons do from each other, plus about 20%
mimicking a style is not the same as 'the characters (note the plural) are carbon copies of dragonball stuff' and 'taking someone else's design'
Now you give someone a hairstyle with 3 spikes sticking up on the top diagonal and smaller spikes down at the bottom, and ... well, then i'll point out that many different anime have done that too.
>>
>>104003802
Fair enough.
>>
>>104002118
>>104003802
>and why would that indicate a bad product even if they did?
Because that's plagiarism. Being creatively inept is the worst offense someone drawing or writing can do.

Let me put it to you like this: how many people have called you out on that one specific character since you've started posting it here? A dozen at least. There are more than a handful of people that have looked at that and said "that's Toriyama's style", because it's so prolific and distinct. You can't just copy a skeleton he used for Dragon Ball and Dragon Quest and then say "it's an homage". It's clearly very much influenced by his works because you sat down and actively chose to draw him the way you did. Whether you accept it or not, that's knowingly taking someone else's idea and using it as your own.

Now you're trying to take the high ground by saying "it's just one character bro!", when it hardly matters since the blatant Toriyama design sticks out like a sore thumb among the rest of the cast who have much more original designs. It's lazy, it's incompetent. You can genuinely choose to do better than that, but you've got this TFS mindset where stealing is perfectly fine at any capacity because "it's non-profit bro!" or "it's just an homage calm down!".

Don't go full retard anon.
>>
>>104004502

>>103991963
You really would benefit from redesigning this character entirely, he looks like a bad DBZ oc and having the stereoscopic stock art as the background isn't lending a lot of hope to this comic either. In fact the only things on those two pages that you definitely drew are the horsething and the guy, and one of them is already more-or-less traced. There's no point defending this when it'd be a simple matter to just start from the ground up making him match the other characters more stylistically.

>>104002118
I appreciate the defense but it isn't necessary. While "carbon copy" might be a bit strong, I certainly am "copying", especially for the lead character. I drew Dragonball stuff nonstop as a kid and drawing in that style is like comfort food to me, it's easy and breezy. I may not be tracing Goku's hair but I sure as heck am copying the style heavily.

>>104002680
That first panel is from a photo, but it isn't stock. I took it while on Mt. Shasta, lots of family that live there. I take lots of photos to use as my own reference. The other panels are not from photos. They're done by spending a bit of time using some Frenden brushes and going back and forth using black and white. I can do a tutorial for the grass and trees if you want, like I did with electricity a thread or two ago. And thank you, I'm trying my best to make these look as good as I can.

>>104003311
Actually this is a good point, and not one I can find a way around at first thought. At some point I'd have to show the character, give him a "hero" shot to introduce him. It's a problem that's kinda built into the design that I'll just need to live with.

Wasn't me. I agree with almost everything you're saying, even about being lazy. That was the intent, to design characters that I can draw quickly and easily which is why I went with that style. As I said above, it's comfort food. I wouldn't call it stealing but that's a whole other argument.

>>104004611
>>104004665
Easy, guys. It's a dumb comic on the internet.

>>104006215
I agree, I would benefit from changing the design, it would be smart. But I'm not going to. You're welcome to call me dumb for not changing it and you are more than welcome to. As for the rest of the comment, I used a photo I took myself for the first panel. Everything else is something I drew myself. You can think it's ugly or doesn't mesh, that's an opinion you are welcome to have, but I drew everything.

>>104006475
Thank you but it's a valid opinion to encourage someone to not so heavily base their own work on someone else's, even if the tone is aggressive and not coddling. If I was some ten year old then sure, his comment would be unwarranted, but I'm an adult, it's fine.

>>104007860
Panel composition is the main thing this comic is being used for. The visual language of comics is much more complex than a lot of people think, even when you have experience drawing. It's a completely different skill.

>>104008519
That is the point.

Chairs are the more responsible way but when your coach is always drunk and likes to watch kids fall, well, a milkcrate is the perfect antidote! The finished book will be on kindle by Christmas time at the latest. Don't really come on here much but my graphic novel about an Altar Boy vigilante is already available on Amazon. Peep it if you hate yourself...

>God, I wish my full effort art was half as good as your doodles. How many boxes did you have to grind to get there?
Thanks man, it means a lot.
I've been drawing for as long as I can remember, and it can be of any consolation, I still hate my own art. I consider myself a writer before an artist, but finding people to work with is pretty hard.
I would probably be a better artist if I actually followed a self-improvement regime of some kind, as of now, I still have tons of weaknesses. Practice, practice, practice, that's all there is to do.

Hi guys,
sorry for going a bit off topic today but the win-o -thread wasn't much help. I've been reading comics all my life and now I want to get into cartoons too. So I'm wondering, is there any accessible place online to get cartoons in decent quality? Common sense says there should be.
Any live action movie I want is 30 seconds and three clicks away, but I've been trying all week to get the newer season of Adventure time (the most popular, entry-level stuff ever) and it's stupidly hard. I've tried every public tracker I know of, rummaged through dead mega links on reddit, even tried to manually sift through google results but nothing, only season 1-5.

I'm out of ideas, so finally i decided to just start asking around on /co/ and /t/ until someone gives me a clue.
Thanks in advance.

How do you guys feel about referance humor in webcomics.? I want to write something nerdy where the characters talk about stuff from comics and anime, but I might occasionally throw in something exclusive to the comic like an in universe show or game that the characters would play or watch.
>>
>>104018404
Reference humour is fine imo as long as you keep it tasteful and low scale. Don't go overboard. Have you seen Ready Player One? What a disaster.

One of the best instances of what you describe would be Red Apple Tobacco from the Tarantino films. It's a neat thing to pick up, but not overindulgent or inaccessible to casual aduiences. Aim for something like that.
>>
>>104018404
>but I might occasionally throw in something exclusive to the comic like an in universe show or game that the characters would play or watch.
I do it all the time, I fucking love it when I see it.
>>
>>104018463
>>104018404
To elaborated, I should've added: I think referencing something current runs the risk of dating the story, while creating something of your own helps it mantain its own little freshness throughtout time.
>>
>>104018473

Yeah I kind of want to do both those ideas, even if it dates the story a little. I just thought it would be fun to have characters talk about things like current stories of spiderman or x-men, maybe a recent movie that came out. Stuff like that while also adding original series for the characters to enjoy.

I've drawn all my life--obviously not trained beyond two college drawing courses--but I always drew monsters and freaky nonsense. It was only in recent years that I started making people. That's all the explanation I have, other than my general interest in creepy/horror stuff.

So if I were giving advice, I'd just say to not be afraid of the monstrous. That said, I will be hard pressed to make genuinely happy and cheerful people look sane and not monstrous.

Animation:
Standard ones like Courage the Cowardly Dog, Watership Down, Black Cauldron. Shorts like Who's Hungry, The Hangman, and Blackwater Gospel. Truth be told, Disney's 2D stuff had plenty of freakish stuff going on with big toothy smiles, wild eyes, etc. Scooby Doo on Zombie Island was the shit.

Illustrators:
Stephen Gammell, Edward Gorey, Mignola, Tim Burton, Brett Helquist, Gris Grimsely, John Bradly (Mostly Ghostly, Mostly Monsters were huge early influences), Korky Paul (Monster Poems is awesome)

Games: Standard issue horror stuff. Dead Space, RE, Deadwood, FEAR, Bioshock, Condemned, Amnesia, Darkest Dungeon, etc.

Comics: ... I actually haven't read/seen too many horror comics, although I'm sure there's a lot of them. The series of short horror comics, one of them being His Face All Red, I think, was good. Ito, obviously. I can't recall others. I'd love recommendations.

I'll spare you all the live action TV and movies. There's countless.

And this is not mentioning the fantastic horror/creepy works that so many great artists are making now. I wish I could remember all their names, but some examples that come to mind are: Mr Werewolf, Bernie Wrightson, Charles Listor, Keith Thompson...

I could go on and on. Great stuff out there. I think I'd also say that my unreasonably strong distaste for anime styles probably reinforced my attachment to these things.

I'm shocked to say that I really like it. Very unsettling style, which is my vice. I might even say to be even creepier. The main character is """normal"""" enough to be an anchor and a resting place for the eye. As for the writing, you pontificate heavily on page 4, but it's otherwise, solid. I'd read more. Hopefully, there's more taxi action. It's a great trope to base a comic on.

And this for drawn foliage. The amount of time you spend doing this process highly effects how good it looks. The examples in the tutorial were done super quick, a few minutes tops, but the two pages I uploaded are actually good examples of how time spent translates.

I spent hours on that bottom panel of the first page and used a reference photo to make sure the trees looked front lit.

Meanwhile, the panels on the second page I spent less than an hour on and it's incredibly apparent.

I'm using both and webtoon is more suited to story-driven, but it's also much more unstable (gets stuck uploading, insane restriction on images, very slow loading for readers) and has less features (no scheduling)

Public-wise most readers on tapas want relatable strips and those on webtoons want demon gay romance, but I think readers looking for anything else are more or less spread on both platforms.

It's worth trying out both at the same time imho

Writing a medieval fantasy about a band of mercenaries called the band of good fortune

The main character is a young man named Ferdenan (Fern) a cattle herder after loosing his whole herd to diese he becomes a sword for hire inorder to make ends meet after a chance meeting with and older Axemen Named Galen and desert Nomad named Jata the trio form the Band of Good Fortune

To sum up my current roster of characters

Fern

Age:21

A cattle herder turn mercenarye years of protecting his herd from raiders and theives he's experienced in combat
He's opportunistic, optimistic always trying to find a way to keep going prone to indecisiveness, despite being an honorable young man he's not entirely altruistic believing that getting by requires doing things that goes against what he deems moral leading him to have hidden confidence issues. he has a passion for theatre arts hunting

Jata

Age:25

Born in the harsh deserts with square shaped irises he was isolated from his tribe veiwing himself very differently and was viewed as an anti social odd ball he soon left his tribe to live on his own years of roaming the desert exposed to death and desolation resulted in his demeanour of breezy apathy in his regard of others, heavily sardonic witty and often employs dark humour . Indiscriminate in the disagreeable manner by which he treats people, he is known to delight in making scathing remarks that induce great discomfort he views death as just another part of existence he's an expert in the use of poisoned weaponry and medicine.

Draw a lotta times more

Actually, very important, don't start drawing them and then decide what pose it's going to be. Decide on the pose/action first and then do it. If it looks wrong redo it / fix it / practice. Do that for many useful poses until you've perfected the design for actual use in a comic, not just for t-posing with a neutral expression.

>pretty inconsistent face and eyebrow cut angle,
Ok the cut's angle, but what's the most inconsistent part of the face? Is it the nose? The haircut?
This series is the hardest I've ever cared about character consistency across panels, and the fact that it's the first time people comment on it is a bit demoralizing.

Any comment is welcomed.

>but still fantastic stuff.
Thanks.
>>
>>104043752
her nose seems to point much more downward in panel 1 and more upward in 2, her mouth also moves further from the nose. I realize her head posture is slightly different, but seems not by that much. How much of the face is covered by the hair also changes. Just looks like a different person in panel 2 (and a man at that)
These are the nittiest of picks, it's just this art is so good, it stands out. and I'm used to trying to read symbols to recognize faces.
The 3 blues also look like different people, and different from that page. different hair heights, the part in the hair moves, the brow angle and length of the chin...
realism is a bitchpuppy, I'm really not shocked it's giving me so much trouble recognizing Sam here. don't worry too much, just see if you can see the differences yourself, and get tweaky. Tweaks are the most undersung part of drawings.
>>
>>104043824
Thanks a lot. Actually looking at the three concepts art together like this (before they were sorta on different files) I can see better a lot of the differences you talk about. Personally the hair covering her face detail is more of an angle thing, but it could use some tweaking, everything else is pretty on point. I'll tweak away, thanks again!

Experiment a lot to identify which facial features are essential for the recognisability of your character (say, maybe it's eye distance, or nose shape). Then when drawing poses spend as much attention as possible perfectly preserving those key features, and let everything else do whatever.

In that case he should uh... consider not doing that. The art style and stiff dialogue lend itself a lot better to meta jokes at the genre's expense. It's like a step above Neko Sugar Girls for me right now. If a serious story is what they want to convey, they need to reevaluate how human beings talk to each other.

No offense but the panel composition is a mess. Visually, it's a nice page with the panels at the top and the contrasting shapes on the bottom. However, the placement of the panels and the arbitrary gutter width make it confusing to read and ugly to look at.
It sounds like I'm bashing you but actually you're getting a lot of things right. The basic idea and the imagery of the page is good, but the execution is still lacking.
>>
>>104046713
Write your extra ideas on a separate document. Right now all you gotta focus on is finishing what you started. Do NOT revise your story/script until you finished it beginning to end, else you'll be caught in an endless loop and never get the writing phase done

Just did a 5 hour stream on my day offs recently. It was a good experience. It was because I scheduled time to discuss with one of my collaborators about the project we were working on, so I wasn't working on my main project, but I thought it is a good strategy to find someone to keep you in check by scheduling periodic report about the progress of a project. I wonder how much I would be able to get done if I can get myself to stream on my day off at least 5 hours on each of those days.

The image is a drawing of one of my characters that is in the background of the story. This was one of the test printing page because my printer head was clogged, I decided to try out some new tools on the other side of the that paper.

I haven't drawn on a full 8 1/2 by 11 in a while. Its so much space...

Terribly sorry for being a week too late. It's just that there was some art competition which I didn't do at the end but it still took me lot's of time and effort... anyway please check the English on those pages, please.

artists should have no borders or limits
on the other hand, you should have an artistic vision, and things that either fit or don't fit the tone and feel you're going for.
I think it's important to examine what outside things might be influencing your choices and be sure you're aware of them while you choose to keep or toss them.

honestly shit is kind of satisfying to draw, in the same way mud, dirt, and rocks are. I'm not remotely into scat but if there's a joke about somebody stepping in shit, or coming across a bunch of shit, I don't mind drawing it. From The Poopsmith's whatsit pile to curly pink icecream doodoos in anime...

I use bookmarks but I have to admit it's becoming unwieldy.
It does mean that if someone's site is down, I'm the only one who knows, and can tell them about it. Everyone else just assumes it merely hasn't updated, and you can forget about a site if you don't check it often.
>>
>>104076536
I guess for me it's about girls straining as things go in and out of their bodies. And scat is just a natural every day thing in that regard.

You have to make a conscious decision to invest in your comic if you want it to be any good. The point is that you are forgoing other opportunities in the pursuit of this one. You cannot avoid opportunity cost.

The idea of making commissioned art into your own portfolio makes no sense

what these people are doing is spending money on an artist and hoping the comic makes them money

>>
>>104078149
But wouldn't that just be hiring an artist? I don't think the guy doing the comic is using someone else's art, without proof I guess, I think he's just an illustrator that can't write worth a damn

I so desperately want to create a comic, it's been my dream for so long, but no matter how hard I try to save up I never come close to being able to afford even bad artists.

So I'm going to just say fuck it, and draw it myself, but I can't draw at all, and I'm not being hyperbolic, I even have trouble with basic stick figures and straight lines.

Please tell me, even if it's a lie, that people will read it even if it's abysmally drawn.
I know people point to the original OPM comic as proof as you don't need to be a good artist to hit it big, but honestly I wish I was even 1/100th as skilled as he was at that point.
>>
>>104078879
Hey you still there I wanna kinda teach you I've got nothing going on
>>
>>104078879
The thing with OPM is that the art complimented the type of comic he was making. It's a comedy, so the bad art didn't ruin the tone of the comic. I'm not sure what your comic idea is, so unless your art can match the type of comic you want to make, I'd say you're better off becoming a writer if you seriously cannot improve.
>>
>>104078991
There's no chance in me becoming a decent artist, though I appreciate the offer/thought.
I've taken classes, I've gotten help from various people online, drawing is just not in the hand for me, it's like expecting an 80 year old to become a professional e-sports player.
>>104079008
I am a writer, that's what I want to do, I want to write/direct a comic. I've tried novels several times but the issue with that is I don't read novels, nor do I have any interest in them, so it feels incredibly forced.

Maybe I'll just have to wait and hope on us hitting a point where AI can reliably create art for us or I get lucky and save some artist from a car crash so they give me a good deal.

I wrote some scripts for friends of mine for their college work, and that was actually a lot of fun, but obviously I can't do that on my own either.

Hey, could you look at something for me?
https://tapas.io/episode/289112

He draws better than you, obviously, but that's not what I want to talk about- his artstyle is very simple,
easy to comprehend. You can look at it and almost immediately see the shapes that make it up. It's replicable.
Probably the best panel to show this is the one immediately above pic related, with the naga slithering off- it's one of the few times he doesn't draw a character so you can see their face and the illusion just collapses

the sword is capable of feeling her breasts by being hugged, despite the obvious handicap of being a sword, and how she obviously isnt cutting herself on him, and how she's wearing a thick cloak buckle in the place he's being pressed into, which is also clearly not being bowed outward at all.. okay.
>>
>>104078292
The discussion here is about comics with good art but boring stories

Other than that, I have something written down in a txt document, hang on

>Good webcomics with shitty art:
>Hitmen for Destiny?
(please don't draw in MSPaint, bad art is okay but the MSPaint is fuck ugly)
>XKCD
>Feast for a King
(small amounts of colour seem to go a long way-lots of characters have red highlights and look much better for it. Possibly an actually good artist prioritizing speed)
>October20
>Asscastle?

>shitty webcomics with good art
>Glacias
>Asis
(actually seems to have good writing, great setting and sketchy/realistic art complements the mood, but fucked over by atrocious pacing and 4-5 panel layout)
>FactionComic/MUlate
(seemingly no one who wants to write "We're in a VR MMO, but now with STAKES!" seems to actually *get* how players think. Heartily recommended if anyone is feeling writer's block and needs to read something that missteps at every turn)
>>
>>104080839
>Shitty art
>Feast for a King
I don't even like FfaK but its art looks better than 90% of what comes out of /hyw/, especially considering it's insane update schedule. It's messy and had a weird style, but hardly shitty when you consider what most webcomics look like.

>>104078879
OPM is the exception, not the rule. If you're serious about making comics, start teaching yourself to draw. Anyone can do it, all artists start from somewhere. You can do it too, anon, I believe in you.

>oh okay, I thought 'damn comics' was your third comic but I see now that that is 'now'
Yeah, I’m writing two Heromaker stories, one on Tapas and this one, the original planned sequel to the pilot.
>that's really not a good title y'know. hard to remember, impossible to look up. even now I had a hard time saying it and I'm confusing myself.
I do realize that, but I was really stuck trying to change it. The original title was TOMORROW NOW, but changes in the overall structure of the plot lead me to change it. Maybe it should’ve stayed the same all things considered.

>.... two different time periods of the same story whhyyy would you do that?
Because I’m insane? I mean, I realized the needs of the platforms I post on, and Tapas is more of a casual reader type thing where you need tons of short updates to make people interested. So I decided to write simultaneously one of the Heromaker tales I had planned. It is tiring, I admit, this week’s update took a lot from me…

>So in essence you're doing 4 comics at once, and 2 of them are the same Tomorrow Now sounds great
Well I count Damn Comics as one but… yeah I guess I’m doing 4 comics… and yeah, I should’ve kept Tomorrow Now, it’s ten times cooler.

Let’s say I have slight ADD, my daily job offers me no joy, and drawing is the only thing keeping me alive, how’s that for an answer?

>>104095697
>How many chapter until you go for print versions or create a kickstarter?

I gave it a thought actually. Terror of GI is 10 parts, so 60 pages, + 20 of the Pilot, + all of The Grand Princess Bride, + two billions sketches and working designs, I think in a year, if I have enough followers, I could kickstart a meaty 120+ pages trade with just Heromaker, which would be fucking awesome, but all depends on how many readers I get.

>You seem extremely dedicated while also being resourceful, probably the most important skills for a comic artist right after art and writing. If you keep at it you'll go straight to the top.

Thank it means a lot hearing this. I hope I’ll keep my sanity in check.

I already have a webcomic with its own site (Mad Magic), and while I realize what you’re all saying, I wanted to distribute Damn Comics in a bulk, a full issue. All the pages will be eventually posted on their tumblr page though during the course of the next weeks. This is the first issue, I might revise my strategy based on the result.

It’d be nice if the twitter accounts designed to retweet indie comics and webcomics actually worked, but they’re ignoring me and retweeting anything but I want them to retweet. Fucking hell.

is that a backwards Ceres symbol or an overly-curvy 'Lilith' symbol?

I absolutely love the use of screentones and the background architecture in the last oanel. Very reminiscent of 80s sci-fi manga like Akira.

So where are you hosting this comic? And to read it people are aupposed to subscribe to patreon? That's pretty odd, I've never seen an approach like that on hyw...

What is this, some hyper-ironic /pol/ meme comic? The last one who tried something like this was fucking bones with his Atom Baby or what it was called. That didn't go too well.

Where do you get screen tones like this? My screen tones look like shit :/ Using firealpaca. And how do you achieve the effect of them becoming gradually darker? Or do some screen tones come like that?

what to do when no one reads ur comic

How do you commit to an idea? I have the problem whenever I come up with a great idea I'll do tons of sketches and the next day I'll wake up and completely hate the story and spend the next week thinking of something new.
I feel like I have serious issues with commiting to an idea and sticking with it.

I read your comic. I think. I don't remember what your comic is but I have a positive memory associated with your name. I have definitely liked what you've posted so far.

Boy an awful lot of retards are doing an awful lot of shit about this, aren't they?
>>
I haven't posted here in a couple years. Is you know who still around?
>>

Could be! Haha, I looked up a bunch of occult symbols and I don't quite remember what they all meant, but they're all relevant to the story. I probably should look them all up again.....

Thanks! That's exactly what I'm going for, and Otomo is a huge influence. For now I'm hosting it all on Patreon (free to read tho) and as I finish each issue, they'll be available as a PDF download.

I also have issue #1 available here: https://gumroad.com/l/modifaction-issue-1

I do all the screen toning in Clip Studio, their . toning system is great, all vector. All my art is drawn on paper first tho.

Here's another page :)

What sort of concepts have you thrown out?
You're not being judged, you've already disavowed them

You actually don't have to know how to draw to do comics. There's plenty of examples of comics that are drawn terribly that still make the creator millions (Dilbert)

>>104107507
Remember who's fault it is that no one is able to read my comic. :^)

you're not publishing the damned thing! you've even taken down the sites the comics are on.

yes, with some silly trickery it's possible to separate the processes of pencils, inking and coloring all within mspaint. it's mostly just because it's easier to convince myself to do it if it's in mspaint oddly enough

That's right. Tapas was completely destroyed in order for me to cover my tracks. :^))

I really don't know. Mad Magic hits his one year anniversay next week and I have 230+ subscribers on tumblr. Is that good or bad?

I may pitch Heromaker to Hiveworks this week, since some here suggested it, though they completely ignore MM the first time around. I'll try my best.

why do I do things like this
I could be doing actual useful stuff for the site, the characters page, but for some reason I just have this itch to do NES-looking shit right now.

there's all these old cutscenes in my head that I can't even remember where I saw them, or find online. old anime game portraits
and since the art style of my comic is based on "drawing sprites" this actually helps a lot getting my head together. I want to do a significant solidifying of that style so that some years in the future when the third Kiwi Day happens, I don't look back at the art and see it vary so tremendously month to month
>>
>>104110596
you are definitely good enough for hiveworks. you'll be a shoo-in probably.
>>
>>104110700
isn't it 'swooty'?
>>104110832
I feel like this opening should have a visible inner rim, whereas instead we have a riveted seam on the outer rim
>>
>>104110853
Fantastic and efficient job making me hate this guy
>>
>>104110894
im not sure i entirely understand what you're saying. there's a seam on the face and the head, should I erase the seam on the head?
>>
>>104110958
I'm saying when the face plate comes off, there's a rim that indicates the face is 1-2 cm thick, yeah? it has dots on it. The hole the faceplate is taken from, well, it doesn't match the faceplate's shape perfectly, but it has that same line all the way around it.
Then in the next shots it has that line but only on the viewer's left. If anything shouldn't it be on the right, so that it indicates the thickness of the material?
Basically there's some 3D stuff not being drawn right here, even ignoring the changing shape of the thing as it becomes a diamond. it's about what's "inner" and "outer", the side you choose indicates that.
I could draw something to make it clearer but I think you'll retain it better if you experiment and figure it out yourself. and anyway this thread's going to die tonight so hopefully someone makes a new one.

>>104111123
OHH I see it now, yeah. thanks for pointing that out, i'll be sure to fix that tomorrow

I want to make a webcomic but I'm having difficulty deciding on a concept.

The first one is called "Devil's Fist"(Left)
It's about the devil sending his dense daughter up to an Earth that has discovered immortality. Her mission is to find the most prolific assassins and killers, who in this world are incredibly flamboyant and colorful so they can more easily advertise themselves, and kill them so they can be recruited into Satan's army.

The second one is called "Hex Demon Hunter"(Right)
It's about a nun-like demon hunter who has to deal with her puritanical attitudes that ruin her social life but can't be put away in order to resolve herself from a previously committed sin.

Your comic is fantastic so it's only a matter of time before it gets the recognition it deserves. The Tapas algorythm favors quick uploads of 1 or better yet 2 pages a week. You're going the route of chapter releases which is more fun for the reader but ironically stifles views.
You should create your own site and just use Tapas and Webtoons to draw in viewers instead of making them your main platforms.
