Just watch all of it.
>>
>>92505197
Is it really worth random filler?
>>
>>92505162
The exact moment every single Star Wars fan on the planet realized JJ fucked up.
>>
>>92505200
its not random filler you mong, almost every single scene in every single episode has future relevance or references past lore while also being entertaining for its own sake, and this includes Rebels as well
>>
>>92505200
Yeah. A lot of the "filler" excluded in that guide is actually important and not filler at all.

For example, the Onderon arc, which is not only the backstory of the very first Rebel Cell in the Rebel Alliance (Yep, George had the idea that the Rebel Alliance actually started to sprout before the Clone Wars had even ended. It's pretty neat) but also the backstory of Saw Gerrera, one of the first Live-Action characters to originate outside of the movies.

Star Wars is full of "filler". Even the movies. Chewie fixing C3PO is "filler".

If you like Star Wars, you should have no problem enjoying the entire show, even through its slower or lighter stories.
>>
>>92505200
I never got this filler thing. But no, most of it has some sort of relevance. It starts a bit slow though in S1. Picks up fairly quickly though.

The only thing you could really do is watching it in chronological order, but that only affects three or four episodes IIRC.
>>
>>92505187
No. You should watch every single episode, otherwise there is no point.
Especially Season 6, which for some reason isn't in the pic.

>>92505247
Watch everything, in chronological order:

>>92505247
Filler is an anime thing.

Essentially, Manga often doesn't release the way Western comics do. They can be infrequent, or go on long haituses.

Sometimes an anime will be made adapting a manga that gets so popular, it actually catches up to the source material.

In this case, its common for the anime to start creating filler, which are completely meaningless stories that affect literally nothing. It's just padding to keep interest in the series, and keep the money flowing. These episodes are often completely ignored once the anime returns to adapting the manga again.

So it's completely an anime/Eastern thing. However the term is often incorrectly applied to slower western cartoons too. You often see people bitching about "this episode was just filler!" if nothing explicitly important happens.

In regards to Star Wars, Filoni has talked about Rebels, and being accused of having too much filler. He says that while he has admittedly had a few slower and more self-contained stories, literally every single episode has something important and relevant to the future of the show, or the franchise, so none of it is filler.

I mean, its a big deal. Star Wars turns its characters into icons.

>George said they wouldn't recast Luke, even if Hamill didn't want to reprise the role
>Leia and Tarkin were CGI'd
>Every peice of media, from comics and cartoons, to novel covers, attempt to capture the likeness of the actors, stylization aside

Alec and Ewan are one thing, the actors were separated by 30-20 years of aging.

But having two very different-looking actors playing Han at seemingly similar ages is very new to this franchise, and its offputting. Han Solo, in every piece of media ever, has looked like Harrison Ford. Until now.

http://www.starwars.com/news/cassian-meets-k-2so-in-rogue-one-prequel-comic-exclusive

>In Rogue One, we saw how Cassian Andor and K-2SO became legends of the Rebellion — and how their story ended. Now, we’ll finally learn how it all began.

>StarWars.com is excited to announce Star Wars: Rogue One — Cassian & K-2SO Special #1, coming in August from Marvel. Written by Duane Swierczynski with art by Fernando Blanco, the 40-page one-shot will reveal how Cassian, one of the top intelligence officers of the Rebel Alliance, met K-2SO, a reprogrammed Imperial security droid. THAT is true. Something like that would be too expensive. It's one of the reasons why they shut down clone production. Training recruits and conscripts is much faster and exceedingly cheaper than producing a Clone Trooper from birth to active duty.

>>
>>92508893
>Most people just join up because 3 square meals a day and a decent wage is a good trade for wearing that armour all day.

I think you've made some bad assumptions. Stormtroopers aren't raised as kids but the empire likes to get them young, out to the mid teens for preliminary academies if possible. That's how Ezra can infiltrate so effectively and Sabine can be a runaway despite not being much older. The empire's entire training doctrine is based on the idea of breaking down kids in their mid teens and stripping away everything they are as a person by the time they become stormtroopers.

In the Chirrut and Baze book we see that while an occasional trooper my have some sympathy but they absolutely aren't the norm and don't represent the empire. Shit, even in Twilight company that one trooper may be sympathetic but activley doesn't give a fuck that it's the empire causing all of these problems and will immediately start thinking of ways to fuck everyone else over and keep fighting.

You can join up for whatever reasons you want, but the empire's academies are literally based around nothing but destroying you as a person. Hux's dad outright says so.

Why the fuck were the Seppies even supporting him? Bioweapons hurt Raxus just as much as they hurt Coruscant
>>
>>92513134
I'd point out that the program Sabine left and Ezra infiltrated is more of an officer cadet style thing, getting teenagers in and training them so they're ready to serve as leaders when they reach adulthood
And I wasn't saying every trooper is a saint under the suit, a lot of them are bastards working for an extremely harsh regime that's made them just as bad, but that still doesn't make them 'brainwashed', just following orders
Which, honestly, is kind of worse.

Galactic Empire stormtroopers are qualified volunteers roughly analogous to the marines, with a strong ideological element reminiscent of the Waffen-SS.

First Order stormtroopers are kidnapped as children and raised to be stormtroopers, in a manner that recalls the historical jannissaries.

No it's not. Every imperial goes through that program or an equivalent until they get sorted into a more specialized program. The empire is super anal about every imperial knowing how to use almost every weapon and tool to the point where you have retarded shit like TIE pilots training with flamethrowers.

That's not particularly impressive in the grand scheme of things. Larry Corriea can shit out four novels a year and they're all at least decent and consistent with each other. The MHI series is fucking amazing and you have a dozen works between the main series, short story and co-production, and he has like four other franchises going at the same time.

The difference is that Wendig tips fedoras and clinks blue milk glasses and Corriea is a shitlord who's friends with the Sad Puppies.

Lost Stars and Servants of the Empire. Twilight Company is the one that doesn't actually line up with anything else. Even in the EU you had a decent degree of cross training and multi phase academies for transfers in a similar system. The dynamic between pilots and troopers and officers is also more or less consistent with Baron Fel's backstory from Rogue Squadron.
>>
>>92514770
I said they hired someone who was fast, not that they bothered to shop around first for someone who was first, good and capable of keeping up with other franchises as well
Honestly I think a lot of the problems the early expansions of new canon has had (TFA not lining up with what the story group expected, Aftermath being shoddy) come down to just how quickly Disney and LF wanted the new canon up and running
>>
So the Empire has female stormtroopers now? Must be very rare because they're not in any of the visual mediums (that I know of) (whereas female officers and pilots are everywhere)

Crap, I'd forgotten about the TIE pilot cross training in Lost Stars, that was weird.
Still, all those people clearly volunteered for the Imperial Academy, which is a distinct thing from the Stormtrooper Legions. It produces Stromies, but its not the sole source of them. It can't be, no way literally millions of men and women all decide to join up at 15
>>
>>92514913
Their armor isn't different, and stormtrooper units are sex-segregated.
>>
>>92514913
I doubt it, its expensive enough to make a full suit of Stormtrooper armour without accounting for the fuss of making a boob plate version. Besides, boob plate really isn't a thing that needs to exist anyway. Titties don't need breathing room, sports bra prove that
>>
>>92514994

Compared to the population of the galaxy that's believable to me. You shove propaganda on someone literally their whole lives and then tell them it's this or regular school and a lot of them will jump at it.

The other thing that you forgot from Lost Stars is that literally nobody in the empire ever expected there to ever be any kind of large scale war. That's also consistent with the Ashoka novel where early Stormtroopers literally freeze up when in a real fight because they don't expect people to do anything but flee in terror. The Imperial Military after a certain point was treated as a way to climb in status and see the galaxy while shooting at the occasional pirate.

Remember Luke wanted to also join the Academy ASAP for similar reasons, and he wanted to do it for a long time before the film picked up.

>>
>>92515052
Does stormtrooper armor account for different sizes/heights? Stormtroopers aren't clones, after all. If they make the armor in several sizes, they might as well add in a couple more variations, for females.

Also why do female stormtroopers appear to be a much rarer occurrence than female pilots and fleet officers?

Beyond meme answers, it's probably because there isn't THAT much variety in humans. They more than likely have a standard height/weight like the army does, and it's a bit harder for women to meet it. Like our army. Of course, a lot of them do, but they don't want them to stand out. Stormtroopers have the personality dragged out of them, it wouldn't be good to know how different they all are. It's a standardized force that you don't want realizing hey, men and women can FUCK for one. Can't do that if they all look like dudes. Tarkin was all about standards.

and, you know. A shit ton of identical troopers is terrifying to everyone until you find out how doofy they actually are.

>>92515254
Titplate is a meme and unnecessary. It would not exist for anything but aesthetic reasons, and the Empire does not encourage anything but a very specific aesthetic.

There are fewer female stormtroopers because, statistically, female humans are less physically capable than human males.

And what about non-human stormtroopers? If they have a Chiss admiral and alien Inquisitors, surely they can enlist aliens for troops. Plenty of species, like Mirialans or Umbarans or Zeltrons, can be wearing the same armor as humans and you wouldn't tell them apart from humans in it.

>>
>>92518017

>>
>>92518019
Here's my autistic theory. Each of the Clone Commanders has a sort of 'master chip', that when activated sends a signal that activates all the other chips in the unit.
>>
>>92518085
No, the truth about the chips was being spread. Filoni said he initially was going to have 9 troopers with their chips removed in Rebels.

Beyond Rex we have Gregor, Wolffe, and Kix (who we don't see because he was captured and sent to Dooku because he knew the truth)

Rex probably told plenty of high-ranking troopers that he trusted, who (if they believed Rex) would have spread things further.

Gregor, a Clone Commando, somehow learned about the truth in time to remove his chip, it is completely possible that Delta Squad was told too, either by Rex, or Gregor himself.

The entire franchise is built around retroactively expanding things. This has been the case since 1978.

>>
>>92528374
A lot can happen in a year, and honestly Vader needed to actually meet Luke to justify why he even bothered to really dig into the boy's life, and thus discover Luke is in fact his son.
And from Luke's side it reinforces why he basically deserted the Rebellion (in so much as one can desert a volunteer army) to go to Dagobah. He came up against the object of his vengeance and fell short, a classic element of the Hero's Journey. Plus it reinforces Yoda's point in ESB, Luke was not ready to fight Vader. He wasn't ready before, and even after his training he still wasn't prepared despite Luke clearly assuming his new training would help
>>
>>92528508
Don't feel bad anon, it took me a couple of years to really understand it. At first I thought it was a pun about it being stealthy enough to sneak up on Coruscant and snatch Palpatine, the finance joke took a while to drop
I wonder if other Banking Clan ships have similar name. Fiscal Irresponsibility sounds like a great name for a hideously expensive over engineered dreadnought
>>
>>92528511
It did help in that Vader actually stopped toying with him when Luke actually got a hit in. So Luke improved enough for Vader to take him seriously and curbstomp him for real.
>>
>>92528508
>>92528528
Shit like that is great. I remember that the Industrial States of America in Crimson Skies named their airships like that too. The Commerce being their flagship zeppelin.

Probably just to piss off the commies right next to them.
>>
>>92528542
And giving them a very brief fight before hand reinforces that journey. Luke goes from being absolutely schooled, to being able to land a blow and hold his own but still losing, to walking into the Emperor's lair without fear

I think the guns fell victim to the whole backwards retrofitting that defines the Star Wars canon, they're clearly meant to reminiscent of the X-Wing's cannons but where they work in a set of four they look faintly silly in a set of two
Otherwise though the Clone Z-95 always struck me as a better example of an early version of the X-Wing. The Headhunter has that weird built up 'hump' behind the cockpit which always looked silly to me

I don't mind the look of the muzzle, I just mean that they are really short and fat compared to the X-Wings or similar.

Unless you want to fit centerline guns in the nose, which would be great too. It does have the Tiger duck nose after all.

There are some good minor arcs that are not mentioned. The episode where the younglings are introduced and go to to collect crystals was pretty nice. Dooku Captured is good too and introduces the Hondo. Padawan lost / Wookie Hunt gives both wookies and Trandoshans some lore and has nice action and Water War does the same for the Mon Cala. It also ignores that episode with kid bobba and ventress meeting.

More likely they're extrapolating from that in-universe history of propaganda that Pablo wrote
There's repeated references to an artist who primarily works with helmets who is heavily implied to be Sabine, and who was still making work after the Battle of Endor. I think she might even still be working by the time of TFA, but I'm not sure
Either way, its not directly confirmed to be Sabine, but its likely

>ITS BEEN THREE YEARS AND HALF OF THE MAIN CHARACTERS HAVENT BEEN KILLED YET, ITS TOO SAFE

That is far from playing things safe.

I feel like Empire experimenting more with cybernetics would be an interesting idea to go with, considering wiring people up to be obedient, mindless drones sounds right up their street. There's already traces of this already with the Lobot gear and the Death Troopers' unspecified modifications.

Only a matter of time, im sure.

They seem to be going around to all the major characters. Looks like they're wrapping up the OT mini-series, and starting PT ones.

Once all the major characters have their own canon spotlight, they'll do some more niche stuff like Clones.

Not the anon you're responding to, but in terms of playing things safe, I'm not really a fan of the trend of centering comics (And to a lesser extent, novels) around single characters. It's just hard for me to see us getting something like the KOTOR, Republic, or Dark Times comics again when there seems to be such an overwhelming focus on centering stories around single, safe, well-known characters.

>TFA was played way too safe I agree

Can you blame them? Last time when people tried to do something new with Star Wars movies people threw a shitfit and spent 3 movies by autisticly screaming how it isn't like the original trilogy and therefore sucks, instead of looking for actually reasons to criticize them (and there were more than enough of those; wooden acting, bad CGI, bad CGI used purely for the sake of satisfying Lucas' fetish for special effects, plot that was about as interesting as watching grass grow in slow motion, the worst movie romance since Titanic spread across 2 different movies, constantly failing at show don't tell, fight scenes that lacked tension, etc.)

Well canon is just starting up, and there are huge gaps in the timeline. The first thing they're going to do with the opportunity to have truly canon stories, is flesh out the characters we already have.

Plus you're ignoring things like Aphra, a side character who got an increased focus in the Vader comic, until she got her own title.

>bad CGI used purely for the sake of satisfying Lucas' fetish for special effects,
You know, Lucas was one of the people who was majorly critical about overuse of CGI, and the prequels were some of the last major practical work in the industry. Huge models and yes, even sets.

Now when things like Mad Max show up, people fawn over the practical effects. It's just ironic really.

I wish people would stop hating on Lucas based on bullshit.

Because Lucas doesn't deserve hate over bullshit.

He was a good man who was very ambitious, and made some of my favorite movies ever.
>>
>>92543065
Honest-to-god, the main reason is people watching 2003, and not watching 2008.

People liked the Clones and Greivous, and then saw this new weird CGI show with a quickly increasing runtime and brushed it off.
>>
>>92543065
A lot of it is fellating Genddy's stylistic choices, and generally just preferring a plot light over the top action series to something more grounded like TCW
That and the movie and early seasons of TCW didn't exactly inspire confidence due to saddling Anakin with a Padawan who'd literally never been mentioned before or after the Clone Wars.

they really aren't, you're just attached to the significantly more attractive traditional 2d animation
3d cartoons will NEVER have the life and personality of hand-drawn (or "hand-drawn") animation no matter how much better their direction and story, but the cost of 2d compared to 3d long run is always a losing proposition

False.

I mean, it's kind of hard comparing a 2-hour-long show, to one that has 121 full-length episodes.

It almost seems silly to even suggest 2003 having "better fights" than TCW.

Hell, most of the 2003 fights have TCW counterparts that are immediately more engaging.

Umm... What?

TCW had a beautiful hand-painted artstyle, how the fuck does it not have "life and personality"...? I've seen more emotion in TCW than most animated shows I have ever watched, 2D or otherwise.

Is there a reason why even though they got Morrison for Battlefront, none of the clone dialogue in game isn't done by him outside the 501st Journal?
>>
>>92543121
>very ambitious
Over ambitious I would say, to the point of being blinded by it
I'm going to ignore the CGI debate (because we'll be shouting in circles all fucking day) but Lucas should not have written those movies alone, at the very least not without an editor to do a second read and point out the problems with it. And he should have let the actors know they could push back a little when it came to reading their lines. He's a great ideas man and can direct battle scenes pretty well, but as a director of people Lucas flounders, or at least it felt that way watching the PT

Makes me curious about the upcoming Battlefront 2.

There's a certain nostalgic "je ne sais quoi" about traditional 2d animation that TCW and Rebels, as great as they are, cannot attain with CGI models and beautiful textures. TCW and Rebels are far better than Genndywars and Droids, but they are not as visually pleasing.
>>
>>92543371
Its quite ironic that no one accepted when I'm fairly sure most of the reason the actors in the PT didn't throw out the script the way the OT crew did is they were dealing with George Lucas, so felt like they just had to go with it
Still, part of me wishes Lucas had just held on till someone came along who was willing to direct alongside him, or at least until the people he approached were available. We could have had much better prequels

TCW and Genndywars have more or less an identical visual idiom, with numerous stylizations being lifted directly from one to the other. However traditional animation is ageless; CGI is not. It is the likening of the classical painters to that of modernist artists. They both have value, but Michelangelo and Monet have a lot more staying power than Pollock and Picasso.

Photo realistic (or trying to be photo realistic anyway) CGI does have an inherent time limit purely because the technology improves over time (and saying that, those CG clones from Revenge of the Sith still hold up over 12 years later)
But stylized CGI is just as timeless as any other stylized animation. Stylization helps extend the lifespan of just about every single medium out there, and animated ones in particular

But theres plenty of mediocre and dated 2D animation.

TCW is a stylized HD cartoon with some absolutely stellar lighting and other effects, I think it's going to stand the test of time.

It already looks much more fluid and aesthetically pleasing than 2003CW.
