Afraid we're standing out this round to work on some other stuff. Best of luck to everyone entering though.

Also, a preview of the next part of the Magical Woman text story Shika in Croatoan.

It's probably not going to make a lot of sense if you haven't read the first part at http://www.capeworldcomics.com/comic/magical-woman-1/

......

Shika knew that there were no “real” seasons on Croatoan. There was no sun to orbit and no axis to wobble on. The weather was always the same, never too hot and never too cold going back to the War of the Crosswinds and the Nimbus Accords.

Aeons before the first Puritan forefathers arrived in Croatoan the two great houses of winds, the hot Swells and the cold Drafts battled for supremacy. It took hot air and cold air combined to raise the wings of birds and scatter the seeds of plants, but would Swells command Drafts or would Drafts command Swells? The debate led to the centuries long War of the Crosswinds that devastated the surface. Swells and Drafts clashed in violent storms and grappled in enormous tornadoes. And it was the surface that suffered as victors and vanquished alike were hurled to the ground.

Seeing that neither Swells nor Drafts could overcome the other and the destruction they had wrought upon the surface the great houses of winds ceded their authority to the surface dwellers under the Nimbus Accords.

Because the surface dwellers lived within a small sliver of existence between the crust of the earth and the skin of the sky their demands would be made in ignorance of the millennia of disputes and feuds that carved up the endless miles of sky. They cared only for their crops and their livelihoods and when they looked up the sky they did not see the invisible winds and their invisible borders. They saw only unbroken blue sky, whole and unified.

And that is what the sky became under the rule of the surface dwellers. And the weather was always perfect from that day forward.
>>
>>95275609
The weather was always perfect in Croatoan.

And it never stopped being perfect. Which deeply vexed the Puritan forefathers who remembered fondly on the seasons of Earth. No matter the supernatural wonder around them they never forgot the snow of winter, the leaves of fall, the bloom of spring, or the lazy showers of summer. And so, once peace was made with the native forefathers and the empire was established and the modern Croatoan form of magic was codified at More-Trial, the Croatoans went about introducing the seasons of Earth to Croatoan.

During the reign of Emperor Makepeace Freegift More-Trial’s best thaumatergists were charged with re-creating the seasons from the memories of the Puritan forefathers. Inventing the mechanics of the seasons was no challenge. It was certainly time consuming to draw up schedules and maps and make sure the winds understood them, but it was no challenge. Croatoan thaumatergists are excellent bureaucrats. Nor was it a challenge to carry out the mechanics-that was the easiest part of the entire task. The manipulation of hot and cold is simple even for Croatoan youth too young to be trusted yet with a dreamstaff.

What was a challenge was getting the various elements of Croatoan to go along with the seasons. Water had never been rain and the plants were never rained on. And snow was something the thaumatergists could only explain through example. But the thaumatergists were up for the challenge. They were the Empire’s elite not only for their magical prowess but for their diplomatic skills. They knew the true magic behind words unalloyed with magical properties.
>>
>>95275639

Winter proved to be the most difficult season to replicate, and knowing this made Shika appreciate the winter landscape she saw all the more. For in coming together to overcome the difficulties in creating winter the Croatoans had created a beautiful, living symbol of their harmony. Though it was based on Earth’s winter Croatoan winter had elements all its own born out of the compromises and innovations required to create it. When Empress Kijutsu was born on Christmas Day in the heart of winter the Croatoans took it as a sign that she was destined for great things, for winter was the greatest of all the seasons of Croatoan.

Try as she might Shika couldn't help but compare the winter of Croatoan to the winter she knew back home in Japan where the snow melted off hot metal buildings and the stars

She started to feel uncomfortable and out of place again like a dustbunny on a beautiful oil painting.

Shika threw her head back and looked to the stars. Maybe she could lose her thoughts in their dancing?

.....

And that's the preview, don't want to take up too many posts.

What do you think thread?

How come there isn't a "HOW'S YOUR CARTOON?" or something along those lines for animated series? Unless there is, and I'm just blind.
>>
>>95282121
Because most people don't make cartoons that often.
>>
>>95278783
Funny and exciting are both qualities you need to achieve long before you start thinking about coloring a page. Don't move on from your sketch or thumbnail or whatever before it WORKS.

>>95282121
Because it takes a lot more effort to make a cartoon than a comic and as a result nearly nobody bothers trying to do it solo.

Thank you! I'm trying to make a world with as many interesting corners in it as Marvel and DC's worlds and I think I'm off to a good start.

I don't want to spend too much time with Japanese superhero tropes, but I've been thinking about doing a super sentai thing down the line. I want to do something where each member of the latest sentai squad is hanging out with the predecessors of their respective colors. The blues hang out in a dive bar. The yellows go bowling. The reds sit in a command center and talk strategy. The greens work on each others' mechs. The pinks gossip about relationships.

I'm thinking "JSA+Super Sentai". It's about passing the torch and previous generations helping the new deal with all the anxiety that comes from saving the world.

New comic page coming Friday by the way.
>>
>>95285167
>each member of the latest sentai squad is hanging out with the predecessors of their respective colors

you should do a short Comedy Strip about this
>>
How hard is to get featured on webtoons?
>>
>>95282121
Because there's a lot less people who make full cartoon projects on /co/ than people who make cartoons, and since cartoons take longer to work on those threads wouldn't have enough content to stay alive.
>>
>>95282121
we have always allowed those to piggyback on these threads
>>
>>95285769
There is a lot of potential for comedy with the idea, isn't there?

Start with the Reds giving the new one speeches on honor and duty and never giving up-then cut to the Yellows eating curry and pizza while playing vidya.
>>
>>95287219
I'd say Appeal and a steady fanbase are more important than actual Quality to be successfull on webtoons or any "open" Comic site for that matter.
Of Course webtoons has some good Features but just as many garbage Comics that happen to be popular but would never be published in print outside of pay-to-publish schemes.

That's the entire Crux of online Publishing of art in General: the removal of Editorial paractices and barriers allow unconventional art to flourish but also reduces the average Quality of works significantly.

So if you care more about exposure than Content I'd advice you to create something pandering to a large but specific audience: like a Tumblr socially relatable Comedy Comic or a Basic sci-fi themed Action Comic with lots of Boy characters directed at a female / fujoshi audience.
>>
>>95288227
I hope you don't capitalize so Randomly in your own Comic
>>
>>95288100
I don't really know anything about power rangers / super sentai but I think I understand what you're going for. Just remeber that the joke will get worn out fast and if you want to expand beyond a few short strips you'll have to come up with a plot which can be very tricky in a Comedy Setting.
Also concepts like These have been done a Million times of Course but seeing how well hishe are doing with their super cafe Thing I think it's worth a shot.
>>
>>95288271
I'm using
German
Microsoft edge atm because it's the only browser that will stream netflix with proper Quality (this is actually true, no joke) and I can't be assed to use multiple Browsers simultaneously. Edge is so broken I don't even bother to look for Solutions to Problems like this random capitalization.
Sometimes I think edge and Windows 10 are just practical jokes played on the Population by bored Silicon valley billionaires.
>>
>>95288439
I was wondering about that, I know Deutch capitalizes nouns, but this seems not to be doing that.
I fail to see how using multiple browsers is NOT the lazy man's choice though. Also I've never heard of Edge before, it's unthinkable to me that microsoft would put out a second browser
>>
>>95288695
Microsoft Edge is Internet Explorer's replacement, it came with Windows 8 or 10, can't remember which one.
>>
>>95288695
I tend to use lots of Tabs so adding multiple layers of Browsers on top will just get confusing. Edge is just a re-brand of the Internet Explorer, maybe it was only marketed as edge in Germany?
German does capitalize nouns but using english, some Explorer autocorrect function just puts them wherever. Most of the stereotypes about Germans and their language ring very true, grammar nazism is a pretty real every day phenomenon and German Amazon for example only makes the crappy Dubs for most of their films available, withholding the original Audio and making about 2/3rds of the German Amazon prime Streaming library worthless. Which makes Netflix a better Option in Germany I torrent most Content but sharing Netflix with roomates is extremely cheap and convenient for Shows

I'll be careful. I think it would be a very comfy way to show off some off the wall sentai concepts I've had like a team who invert the standard fight monster monster grows fight in mech formula. They're a sentai squad of robots who fight the monster first, then when the monster explodes and covers the area with mooks they send down hard light fighters of themselves to decontaminate the area.

They're from that time in anime where mechs and rock and roll were a thing for some reason (Dancougar, Macross, etc) so they're band themed. They're a band of giant robots. Their mech carrier looks like a stage and their lasers look like a lightshow.

Also there's a goofy baseball themed squad. And I'm amazed it hasn't already been done before. Their mech is their team's mascot.

heh, this is great. You have quite a few interesting ideas and don't get this the wrong way, but I think your art isn't good enough (yet) to pull them off. For flashy concepts especially, execution is very important and if the drawings are subpar the whole thing will fall flat on its nose. I'm only telling you this because I think your concepts have potential but you should take a considerable break to work on your art or try to find an artist to collaborate with...

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but since around July i've been busy with an idea that i've had, anyway the idea is these two twins the one on the right with the afro is named Jessie Pride and the one on the left is Kelly Pride and together they are the Pride Twinz. They are basically well known Vigilantes who protect the city of Brightward from criminals, villains and so on you get the idea. I'm still working on the idea but yeah that's the basics of it, the problem is though is that i'm not sure if I should turn this into a webcomic series or into a short web cartoon series.
>>
>>95303906
Webcomics are less effort, so if you're in doubt, go with that.
>series
Do yourself a favor and make it a short one. You're inexperienced with both storytelling and art, so odds are you're gonna make huge mistakes. You don't want to be stuck drawing another five hundred pages after you realize your story's foundations don't work very well.

>Fuck off with this unsupportive bucket crab attitude

No, he's right. I knew that I was inexperienced in making a comic. I tried several times to start one, only to be unsatisfied with every attempt. So I decided to make a throwaway comic to help me learn. It was for the best and I seen myself improve since my first pages. You don't want your series, the one you spent time developing, fall flat because you didn't execute it right.
>>
>>95293904
It's not my art. I'm the writer of a writer/artist duo.

I've been satisfied with my artist's work so far. Sure, I'd like him to do more than a page a week but if he did two pages a week I'd probably want him to do three given the rate I write stuff and come up with ideas.

What do you think is wrong with the art?
>>
Keep calm, stay focused, study and work on your art. Greatness takes time, you got this!
>>
>>95309071
False, statistically most of you won't make it. The market can only sustain so many creations before it's saturated. Everyone thinks their unique vision will make them the exception to the rule, even in this regard you aren't special.

Are you implying what I think you're implying? Hey, I'll be more than happy to work with more artists. I used to have two artists working with me but one sort of drifted away.

I don't suppose there are any artists in this thread hungry for stories and scripts to illustrate? Because I'm your man.

But even just Capeworld fanart would be incredibly appreciated.

>A comic based on a cult of ancient soul stealers and the order of monks who have been fighting them.
>Out of the 4 main characters who have to train to get stronger, one character is blessed with luck
>Natural talent and reflexes are much higher than everyone else's
>Receives frequent power ups that keep him one of the strongest fighters with minimal effort on his own
>His personality revolves around being a cocky, arrogant bastard that never takes anything seriously
>full on super saiyan levels of idiocy mixed with overconfidence

>Character arc climaxes with a anti-hero mentor-type character beating him shitless until he's near-death
>Doesn't learn anything from the experience

>The real change is when his friend almost dies because he was too busy dicking around instead of helping

I feel like this might actually be some poor writing, or there's at least a better way to illustrate a lesson like... "You can't force people to change and they just do naturally on their own terms"

This is a rough draft idea I've had for a setting. In the context of Capeworld its one of the alternate timelines of the local multiverse.

Basically "What if the Atom Bombs were people?".

Tell me what you think guys.

.......

From Dust, From Atom

When a second sun blistered the New Mexico desert the fathers of the atom bomb did not foresee the vibrations set off within its nova-heart finding sympathy within the soul of man. The white hot light of the explosion awoke something mysterious and transcendent inside the man whose name would only be known to history as Trinity.

In an instant the global war fought by man and machine was rendered irrelevant, as irrelevant as wars fought with sword and shield. There would never again be a war fought by man. Conflict had outgrown him. Now wars would be fought by a race whose thoughts shook the very sinews of existence, whose gaze caused matter itself to flee in meek observance, whose words commanded nature and whose power was the atom.

From dust came Adam and man.

From atom came Trinity and Atommen.

Fat Man On Awaiting Deployment Against Japan

We were ready to go. I mean yeah, when you first come out of the kiln you don’t want to do anything. You just want to hear the doctors and physicists tell you again and again that you’re okay. You just want to know you aren’t going to like, blow up or anything. But once you’ve flown around a few times and melted a couple of tanks boy do you feel in charge. That never ceases to amaze me. You come out of the kiln or rather flop out and you’re like “oh God please let me be okay. Please let me be okay” but give it an hour and you start feeling like God.

But yeah me and Little Boy we were ready to go. We were ready to put an end to this war. Like, just point us in the direction of Tokyo and we’ll take care of the rest. But they had to confirm and reconfirm that we were stable and they had to watch us, just watch us all the time. Every moment even when we sleeping they’d have their binoculars or videotape or they’d just be standing there scratching stuff on a clipboard, just constantly. I think only Trinity had it worse than me and Little Boy because he was the first. Nowadays they’re so nonchalant about it. You pop one out of the kiln and its “Oh, another Atomman. What silly codename haven’t we used yet? Here’s your uniform, here’s your unit, now you go have fun fighting the Reds!”. But back then they’d watch you. They’d lose sleep watching you. I think one even died watching Trinity if I’m not mistaken.
>>
just finished another animatic for my comic >:Maggot Treats that's been on hiatus a bit since finals took over everything

https://youtu.be/OUS2LdLK7_c

i would've liked to have added more panels to this, but i had kind of a tight deadline
>>
>>95318426
And a week went by and they told us they were waiting on the chain of command, they were waiting on them to formulate and okay an operation and we were like, what? An operation? For what!? There was nothing the entire Japanese army could do to us. Everything was just matter to us. Their tanks, their bombs, their guns-just matter. Now like everyone else I’ve heard the rumors. I’ve heard that the powers-that-be were kind of sore that a war that cost billions to fight in dollars and men was about to be won by two guys that came out of a Superman comic and so were trying to finish up the last few islands they were on, sort of as a last hurrah for a military service that was about to go the way of the dinosaur. I don’t know how much stock to put into those rumors. I only know that we waited an awfully long time.

After a week of just sitting on our hands me and Little Boy had had enough. We floated up to our handlers and told them “Look, we don’t want to go AWOL but if you haven’t heard there’s a war going on and people are dying.”

And oh man did that scare them. We didn’t mean to scare them, but we did. Little Boy and I even talked about it beforehand because we knew we were the big guys on planet Earth and that if we really wanted to put our foot down about anything there wasn’t much they could...you know, do to stop us. But god...that was probably the most uncomfortable, weird moment in my life seeing how they all looked at us. They acted like we just told them we were going to burn their houses, kill their dogs, and rape their wives. I saw men in uniform cry like little boys. It was...weird. Very weird. I guess that’s the only word that describes it. To have them all project this sort of...I don’t know, almost religious dread at you...it hurts. It hurts a lot.
>>
>>95316640

I like your writing quality a lot. I'm not interested in this idea at all, but you did it so well.
>>
>>95318435
Cute as always anon
>>
>>95318447
Me and Little Boy we could have flown off right then and there and gone to Tokyo but...we couldn’t. We couldn’t just leave looking like monsters in the eyes of the guys we called sir. We just couldn’t. It would be like bullying your grandpa. And you know as scared as they looked the generals looked awfully old, awfully weak. So we just...put our feet back down on Earth and apologized and went to our room. Like kids. Like I said it was the weirdest moment of my life.

Atommen who complain about being seen as tools need to listen to what I’m saying. It sucks to be seen that way, I know. You step out of the kiln and you got power, you can fly through the air and turn anything you want to sand with a snap of your fingers...and you got to go fight the Red Atommen on the moon.

You feel like you’ve just stepped off a gladiatorial assembly line. And you know that when people see you they don’t see a guy that can unscrew things into subatomic particles, they don’t respect you as a guy who can do that. They see you as Atommen #one hundred and whatever with #one hundred and whatever+1 coming right behind him. And that is how they respect you.

It sucks. I know.

But trust me when I say this, it sucks even more to be seen as a god.

Humans can be seen as tools. It’s in our nature to try and be useful. And yeah, it's also in our nature to take advantage of other humans. But we’re still talking about humans here. We’re still talking about how humans see and treat other humans.

But when humans see you as a god they don’t see you as a human. That’s why its better to be seen as a tool than a god. Because when you’re seen as a tool they still see you as human. It sounds crazy, I know. But being an Atomman is already a whole mess of crazy.

......

And there you go. What do you think? I'm going to try and do a series from other bombs from Trinity to Tsar Bomba.

I honestly think comics are a great way to learn art practically, as long as you don't overreach. Making short episodic things forces you to bump up against poses and scenes you've got no experience with constantly.

That is, provided you don't wuss out and avoid every single one of the complicated things.

Honestly, I'm not sure what it is. The eyes/faces are a bit weird to me, but I think it might be just that feeling of everything being sort of stiff. It's got this "posed flash templates" quality to it that reminds me of that kind of thing, especially in the joints. Everyone is basically seen at the same angle and shares the same basic shapes.

How do you guys feel about real world referances in your webcomics? Its not exactly original but I have some nerdy characters who talk about various shows, games and comics they enjoy. But I'm wondering if I should just leave the referances in the dialogue, or maybe draw the referances they are talking about as well. Like they are talking about a spiderman comic for instance, and you'll see the comic book characters in thought bubbles or in the background as the nerds are talking about them

I don't really have a steady enough schedule right now for a proper writer-artist ongoing collaboration; I can't make any promises about schedule or even being able to finish something, so I wouldn't want you to spend any real time on it.

My hope was more along the lines of somebody having a script for a one-shot that they don't have time to draw themselves that they'd be willing to just hand off. If I did finish it, I'd be happy to let you have it and host it, of course.

aside from the veins I fail to see how it's phallic at all let alone more phallic than usual tentacles. Usual tentacles have a consistent diameter, like a phallus, whereas these taper (though I have seen some crazy tapering dicks, and they seem to be the norm on other animals. if you have a tapering ween i'm not insulting you, you have the ideal shape since you can please any size woman)

the writer originally also made the art. I'm not sure if it was some otherwordly stuff of his, it was some kind of third eye tattoo, i liked the idea of fusing it with her eyebrow in the redesign i made.

as for the meaning your guess is as good as mine, he reads a lot of mignola and symbology stuff so i believe is something along those lines.

The first is a consequence of the MC's best friend having to preserve her soul by sending it inside the MC's subconscious, later on the MC's brother offers her the chance to resurrect her but he can't really make her come back without risking the MC's sanity as her best friend's soul started bleeding into the MC's mind; the second is somewhat related to the first but I might scrap that instance, although the father of the MC is a confused shape-shifter (more like a flesh bender if that word makes sense) for that matter; and the third one has to do with an old, seemingly defeated villain trying to come back by serially possessing people until finding an optimal body.

Friday is update day!

Our three page comic Magical Woman is finished!

Next week we start updating our comic story about the first superhero and supervillian in prehistory, Princes of Dawn, and the accompanying text story to Magical Woman "Shika in Croatoan" updates.

http://www.capeworldcomics.com/

I'll be posting the whole three pages here because I love you guys, but give the site some attention if you can.
>>
>>95344955

Tumblr should be secondary. Any comic that is even slightly serious about becoming successful should have its own website. If you want it to be your hobby or just don't have the money then tumblr is good.
>>
>>95344978
This page got a lot of criticism. My artist was pressed for time and finished this real quick. It's animeness probably cost us the contest last time.

The third page looks a lot better and looks more like the first which got some praise.

See? Lot better.

I think we would have won if we got this one in. I quite like how the expressions came out.

Also, I think I'm the first to do this gag on the magical girl transformation cliche. Which is sad. Step up your game modern mahou shojo.

Questions? Comments?

The "Shika in Croatoan" update is coming and will probably be 10K words. On one hand I'm happy I'm putting so much lore behind the mahou shojo corner of Capeworld. On the other I'm 10K+ in and Shika just now meets the Empress.

I'm having trouble with character design.
I always had trouble with my character's wardrobes but now I'm trying to design characters for a fantasy comic and I'm blank on what to do
>>
>>95345512
I think as long as it's funny it should be fine. Nobody thought it was fetishy when Cosby or Bender got pregnant. arnold swartzenegger was a little disturbing, but I liked that movie.
>>
>>95345717
what fantasy stories do you like the outfits in? Zelda? Tales? maybe you go more serious LotR stuff? take a look at those, and just practice 2 or 3 outfits til you have them solidly down. then start swapping their parts. learn how to draw tunics, undershirts, long boots, baldricks...
>>
>>95345411
A lot of early mahou shojo really played with the idea of the heroine disguising herself. Maybe it was a carry over of the Bewitch influence.

For as much as Alice takes from classic mahou shojo she doesn't disguise herself. She teleports into Tokyo and announces who she is and what she can do. Her early adventures are comfy and are about her just trying to fit in and doing stuff like helping a dull and cold star outcast from all the other stars become the Christmas star and keep her date from being ruined by her romantic rival the Empress of Ice (who does everything from stir up a blizzard to making her soup cold). As she gets older her stories become more action-focused and she gets bad guys to fight, sort of a meta way of signalling how mahou shojo gradually became less Sally the Witch slice of life and more Sailor Moon fighting bad guys and monsters.

And she ends up having a fling with an Ishinomori inspired cyborg hero. Because its a shame there's no fictional universe where toku boys hang out with mahou girls.

>>95345717
Well what's the character?
>>
>>95345882
or rather I Dream of Jeannie, I know that was another big mahou shoujo influence, and Jeannie did that a lot. I don't recall Samantha ever disguising herself, she already had a solid public identity
>become the christmas star
>romantic rival the empress of ice
i am loving this.
>toku boys hanging out with mahou girls
i have wanted that for ages. i had the idea of the classic "boys and girls camps on either sides of the lake" scenario but with two different academies for those kinds of heroes (slight asymmetry given that tokusatsu has girls too, but so many fewer. there might be some funny stuff with one of the magical girls becoming a transfer student

A lot of problems are like pufferfish, they make themselves look so big and so complex that you can't see where to attack them first
only when you take the time to sit and measure do you realize that you own pins longer than the fish's pins and thus you can just stick yours in between two of his and now he's popped like a balloon because pufferfish do that, right?

While you can go with >>95345836 and start out by looking at what other fantasy character designers are doing, in my not so humble opinion, it's a better idea to start off with real fashions from historical (or modern) cultures analogous to the one your character is from.

Not only will it stand out more next to everyone going "what are the popular people doing right now", any real culture is vastly more complex than what a single person can come up with, and you'll learn ways to approach costume that you never knew you didn't know.

I've heard Krita is OK. You can also try GIMP, though I haven't used it for years now. The former is supposedly aimed at artists, while GIMP tries (or rather tried those several years ago) to be a free Photoshop, meaning a less specialized functionality.

For making comics: Clip Studio Paint is pretty cheap when it's on sale, which happens often, and the cheaper version has all the tools you'd need, lacking only a bit of convenience targeted at actual professionals putting out actual printed volumes, so you're really not losing anything substantial.

Alternatively you can just steal things, won't be the first and won't be the last, right?

I'm tryng to work out an 'Origin story' to explain why 3 mis-matched characters would be house-sharing together:

The Recluse gets stiffed over by their former flat-mate who moves out suddenly - but not before arranging for The Dope to move in as their replacement.

The Dope can actually pay their share of the rent (when they remember) but is constantly bringing home their friends (and occasional stray animal) and otherwise interrupting The Recluse, who works from home.

The Recluse is therefore not surprised when they discover The Peacemaker rooting through the kitchen fridge. The Peacemaker is friendly enough and offers to make dinner so The Recluse can get back to their work. The Recluse is usually too busy to cook properly and The Peacemaker is a good cook, so that works out well for everyone.

Now this is the part I get stuck on - my plan is that The Peacemaker needs a place to crash for a little while and offers to do all the cooking in exchange. Both The Recluse and The Dope agree to this.

I have a montage in mind next that shows The Peacemaker defusing arguments between The Dope and The Recluse, preventing The Recluse from killing The Dope and stopping The Dope from accidentally killing everyone (metaphorically speaking).
The Peacemaker is thus vital in keeping their household running at least semi-functionally.
The punchline is The Recluse thought The Peacemaker was a friend of The Dope and vice versa; in fact neither of them had met The Peacemaker before they first showed up and moved in.

My problem is - why would a misanthrope like The Recluse let a near complete stranger stay in their house, even if they are a good cook?
Should I move the montage to before The Peacemaker asks for a place to stay? (Having them come back regularly to help out and cook)
Perhaps add something to the initial meeting that shows off the friction between The Dope and The Recluse (prompting The Peacemaker to stay and smooth things over)?

Any suggestions?
>>
>>95350140
If Peacemaker's quiet, keeps the Dope busy and doesn't disturb the Recluse, I wouldn't question it.
Maybe to sweeten Recluse's first impression, Peacemaker cleaned up a mess that the Dope left in the kitchen before going through the fridge.

Well (and I didn't get to this while giving advice, wanted to be succinct) the idea was that once you check out the fantasy series you like best, and practice it, you'll get an idea of the common threads. articles of clothing we don't see very often anymore. Then you're in a good mindset to check out real fashions from the few lasting visual sources, and say "oh I see what kind of garment that is. i recognize that kind of dress. looks longer than people in that game were wearing, that's interesting" and it'll all come together

I don't know, man, not the other anon, but the thing I am working on when I am feeling lonely or inadequate are very different from the things I work on when I am feeling ambitious.

When I am feeling ambitious, my MC is a girl who is just trying to find a job at first but found herself embroiled between different conflicts, and must decide if she wants to take on the responsibility associated her unique abilities, or to continue allowing others to protect her, or to confront the conflict on her behalf, while she maintains a facade of normality.

When I am feeling lonely I work on stuff featuring a self inserted fat ugly loser who is an orbiter in love with the first MC, but always can never approach her in that way because he felt insecure and inadequate. Through some circumstances started a relationship with first MC's childhood friend, who plotted to get all the major girl in the story into his harem. Which would include 3 space princess, a goddess and 2 super soldiers.

That's pretty bad, but when I am at that place, it feels like I might as well because I felt like I was the only audience.

Yeah, I really need to get off my ass and just put this out. Although sometimes, you kind of hit your physical limit unfortunately. Sometimes I just having a hard time deciding how I should approach a page, sometimes I rework them over and over, and sometimes I just procrastinates. Thread like this helps because it sometimes keeps you accountable to a point, but I don't always have the time or the wakefulness to post here.

I don't have a webcomic, though I'd like to have a serious one at some point instead of the terrible shit I did when I was younger. The trouble is just how much time art and improvement eats up when I'm trying to get serious about my writing.

Is there any way to slot in time for something like that without making my entire week nothing but work with no free time?

I've actually read some of these! I'm not a complete beginner, since I've been drawing a while, but I'm mostly self-taught so I've missed some early steps which have been giving me grief through bad habits.

Most of my issue isn't learning, it's the time required. I'm already spending hours of my day writing let alone taking care of the rest of my real life, so I basically only have a couple free days in a week and I don't want to spend 90% of them working, too. Trying to figure out the best way to manage my time.

So after some years, I've had some ideas and finally want to try this webcomic thing.

I made a cute little girl character and wondering which idea would be best for her

Either:

A girl healer that helps an outcast orc with his goal of becoming the fiercest orc warrior around by giving him steroid-like potions to make him buff and experimental drugs to make him confident and fearless

Or

A little girl who likes spooking people and enjoys spending the summer in her Uncle's house, yet she discovers that evil spirits are attempting to haunt it and decides to use her scaring skills to get rid of the spirits

Questions are welcomed
>>
>>95367003
I think if you're gonna do a webcomic, you have to ask yourself what sort. Is it a gag strip, a plot strip, or a bit of both? In either case, how long will it logically run?

My concern with your ideas is that I can't see how they could go for very long as gag strips, but the first idea doesn't seem to have much in the way of plot conflict and the second one seems like it'd end very quick. That's fine if you're not after a long-running series, but keep in mind possible conflicts and SPECIFIC long-reaching goals characters could have as a plot.

As an aside, both sound cute if they're just intended to be a short silly thing.
>>
How deep do you guys go in with your worldbuilding? I won't bore you with my overall idea but I want to have characters from multiple cultures form a party to achieve their end goal. I tend to prefer Lotr and silmarillion style world building and lore, with a lot of background detail you can piece together to form a clear picture, but is that really doable with a webcomic? I've only read a few webcomics and I haven't really found one that does this.
>>
>>95367061
Do as much as you need, show as much as you have to. You rarely need to explicitly explain as much as you think you do. Make sure anything important is understood before it's used to solve a problem. Those are really the only hard-and-fast rules I can think of.
>>
>>95367054
Thanks for this advice.

I plan to make this super silly actually, not long term or super serious

Though if I do the uncle one, it might be a tad serious with dark humor
>>
>>95366761
I-I got magical girls to Anon! D-Does that mean I can still use my tripcode?

>>95366541
It doesn't look bad. Do you have any sort of project planned out?

>>95367061
How deep do you want the lore to go? I got a big shared universe and the lore is thick even in the little "areas" that make the universe up. But if you're just doing a single story you'll probably want to make sure the lore doesn't overshadow the plot.
>>
>>95367255
No art projects at the moment. As I said in my first post, my time is largely taken up by writing and I'm trying to figure out if slotting a webcomic into my schedule is even possible. Sometimes I wonder if I should just illustrate my stories instead to scratch that art itch.
>>
>>95367255
>How deep do you want the lore to go?
I wanna go relatively deep but mainly for small things, like name structure (why do individual cultures name people the way they do, what do familial names mean etc.) and how societies sprung up over the centuries after the apocalypse (the setting is sort of post-post apocalypse, theres been multiple apocalypse events in the past and the world is currently in a medieval era, there's still plenty of old stuff lying around, but no one is out there scavenging for cans of food). I mainly don't want to bore people with irrelevant bullshit, and i'm an inexperienced writer so I don't really have an idea how much people will care
>>
>>95367283
You do writing stuff? Post some of it here. I've been able to post my writing stuff here.

I recommend illustrated your stories. My site is sort of a webcomic plus webnovel thing and I always include illustrations with the text stories like:

http://www.capeworldcomics.com/comic/deseret-stateswoman-of-utah/

and

http://www.capeworldcomics.com/comic/the-daredevil-assault-on-castle-blitzenfaust-1/

Second one is a story about the public domain superhero Daredevil (who predates the Marvel one). I use public domain art from the digital comics museum on that one.

You can post an illustration, post some story, and maybe get some feedback here. It's worked for me.

>>95367336
Small things are important-and fun to write. My Shika in Croatoan story (the text story that goes with the magical girl comic) is filled with little notes about the culture of Croatoan.

http://www.capeworldcomics.com/comic/magical-woman-1/

The story is very much like a travelogue, and I'm not sure if you want to spend paragraphs talking about why moving hills charge a fare like I do, but I put in little asides about Croatoan sayings and what words mean.

My advice is to focus on language to build up your lore. It worked for Tolkien. Like in Croatoan the places and people have weird names like Freegift and From-Above and Humility Barebones because Croatoans descended from dimensional displaced Puritans and took their real-life weirdo naming conventions.

>post apocalyptic medieval

Are you going for Mad Max or is it more like Thundarr and Masters of the Universe?
>>
>>95367520
>Are you going for Mad Max or is it more like Thundarr and Masters of the Universe?
I more mean medieval in how its organized, sorry for wording it so weirdly.
it's gonna be like, deserts between towns, but those towns are built well and everyone can farm their own food and whatnot. The only way you'd know there was an apocalypse at all was the advanced tech some people have despite not having the know how to build it or the infrastructure to build laser guns (that and the occasional underground lab with freaky shit in it).

Are you allowed to talk about those rules? Because I didn't know that. What, they won't publish it if it's ever been online where people can see it for free? Because... everything is.
>>
>>95368220
It's about publishing rights. Different places have different rules, but for the most part anything published somewhere else (and most webpages count) before being published somewhere properly is going to bump into trouble depending on how much of the original work was shown. You can get around this with self-publishing, but I'd rather not try for that unless there's no other option.

When you create a page it gives you the option of marking your Patreon for sexual content, meaning porn itself is definitely allowed, but I don't want to be "labeled" as a porn Patreon or something.

I do 90% SFW stuff and comics, but I enjoy drawing lewds from time to time and I know porno is good incentive so I'd like to have a single tier that gives people access to exclusive lewd comics, but I don't want my Patreon getting taken down because I didn't mark it NSFW while I'm sharing porn for one of my tiers.

Whats a good way to get more writing done? I usually only write if I have a quick scene in mind or have some dialogue I want to try out. I had the day off work yesterday and didn't really do anything productive and I want to change that. I usually play games or watch shows to get inspiration, but I should put that inspiration to use after I'm done with my entertainment.
>>

Can I use cels to draw my comic? What kind of sizes can I find cels in? My comic probably won't have any graphics in the gutter so I don't have to worry about that except for cover art. How much do they cost?
>>
>>95373283
What, like animation cels? Please explain what you mean.
>>
>>95373308
Something like them, but with size more fit for a comic. Like sketch the page on paper, trace over them to the cel, then paint the back.
>>
>>95373380
Why so much work when you can do it so easy digital? Or even the traditional pencil ink then color?
>>
>>95373380
There's nothing to stop you doing that, I guess. The primary reason for doing so would be as an artistic or stylistic decision, as it wouldn't be the most efficient method for making a comic.

If you're going to have recurring sets and backgrounds, then using cels (or the equivalent) would save some time, but you are limited to only showing those scenes from the same angle every time. While it's advantageous to do that for animation (to avoid redrawing a static background 12 times per second), it's not as much of an issue with a standard comic page (in fact, you're more likely to need multiple copies of the same background per page).

The size you need will depend on the size you want to publish at (whether in print or on the web). Or, the size of sheet you use will determine your final print size.

Actual animation cels are going to be expensive. Standard stationery acetate sheets would be more economical, but you'll also need to find pens and/or paint that will work properly on them.

This is just comic practice, but the characters are an artist and their creation. This was all for a comic tournament from last year (the next one is coming up soon.) The artist wears the character and they fight together.

This comic itself is loosely about the frustration of concept art and trying to figure out how to update and change the look of a character. So if anything it's a sort of slice of life. Not meant to be taken too seriously.

Can someone look at this and see if anything jumps out at them as off?

I tend to free-hand most of my work with little to no reference. Sometimes I nail and a lot of the time I don't. I think I'm far enough along that I just need to learn a few mental notes when drawing that will raise the percentage of times my proportions aren't horribly off.

Like, for a long time I was drawing heads too big and not accounting for the fact that hips are not narrower than the torso. Or that the bone that sticks out of your ankle is higher on the inside and the outside... stuff like that.

My next thing is trying to figure out why my torsos never look right to me.

>>
>>95370736

>>
>>95376906
You can't make people migrate from one to the other.

It really depends on what you're trying to do. If you have a webcomic and a site, then all of your social media interaction should be focused on interacting with fans and potential new readers and directing them to your webcomic.

If your goal is just saturation of your brand, then you have to engage people on the platform of their choice. Which means staying engaged on multiple platforms to the same or at least similar degree so that no part of your fanbase feels neglected.

Some artists split up the type of post between their social media. So like twitter is just for WIPs and preview images, tumblr is for illustrations or commissions and then they have their main site (or platform) where they post the main product.
>>

uhhh, yeah, legs are too small and arms are too long. torso is weirdly long too but not enough to call it a mistake.
you're taking the ribcage into account, right? It feels weird giving advice to someone this good but it does kind of look like maybe you aren't. Also the face doesn't quite look as turned as it should be (unlike the last time someone said this, it's true this time. though mostly the nose. also if it actually is bon bon, you'd want a perkier nose. it probably isn't bon bon)

Most wallpapers and avatars are standard shapes and sizes, so you can anticipate what size to work at. You can also ask the Patron eg what their desktop/phone size is and work directly to that.

Publishing webcomics is completely different to publishing fiction, and usually isn't done through publishing houses. It's almost all self-published.

It's VERY rare to see someone post an entire novel online and then publish it traditionally. They almost always sit on it, send it to publishers, then the first time it appears officially is through those channels. It's nowhere near as strange or unlikely as you seem to think.

It's the same way you don't often find creators posting big movies straight to the internet an then putting them in the theatres. When that kind of thing happens it's almost almost something art-house.
>>
>>95379995
Remember, I'm not saying people don't post things for free online or self-publish it through indie websites. That's pretty common. But it's usually a deliberate choice and an alternative to traditional publishing.

Do comics on Tapas even have a chance of becoming a "thing"? I've been uploading my comic on to Tapas and Webtoons for a while now and idk if it's just a slow process to gain readers or if I'm doing something wrong.

i've seen 3 or 4 comics with handwriting as a font and i love it when it's done well. that said, >>95395657 needs to work on his handwriting

Once your webcomic reaches a high enough quality you can migrate to hiveworks or set up a patreon. In terms of readership size webtoons has a lot of potential when you look at the views of popular comics there.

finished a new page.

I could make a video but i dont feel like it right now, maybe later, maybe tomorrow, whatever. Burnt out on making youtube videos, i think ive made enough to prove to all you faggots that constantly say i trace all my comics that i dont and i make everything from scratch. so whatever.

um........ oh yeah, lol, I have the next pages story boarded all the way up to page 80, the final page of chapter 2 of GGZ! :D

ALSO, also... big announcement... I made a TCG based on GGZ, I dont want to talk about it at all because the concept is worth millions of dollars, the ideas i wrote down for it are fucking beyound golden and f\perfect and everything just works and its perfect. Thats all I can say about it without giving anything away until its properly copyright or i already made millions of dollars off of it...

ALSO, ALSO, I havent slept in 2 days lol, so yeah theres that to, lol

What is considered high enough quality for webcomics? Story? Artwork? A combination of both? I know many people will have different opinions about it, I'm just wondering what you guys think.
In my opinion there are a lot of populair comics with mediocre-ish artwork or badly written stories so I don't really know what kind of content I as a creator should deliver for it to be high quality.
>>
>>95400438
My audience is small so I don't know if I can throw something in, but people just want something to enjoy. My art ain't all that great and it's mostly a jokey comic than a story one but people do enjoy it.
>>
>>95400438
>high enough quality for webcomics
It's more about not having a bad foundation and having some quality that stands out.
For instance, mediocre art is fine for a comic that relies on dialogue for jokes. But outright bad art, where the reader has trouble seeing what's going on or who's talking, won't work.
Another example would be a fanservice comic, where nobody really cares about the story not really making sense or the backgrounds being a bit wonky sometimes so long as the skimpy-clad babes are well posed, drawn and framed.
>>
>>95400778
Then there's genius masterpieces like Pokey the Penguin.
>>
>>95398503
No, this is the epilogue of the previous story.

The above pages, are kind of standalone, but if they had to be placed in a timeline, they would be between the previous story and the epilogue.

In my version of the world, time is a bit wonky. I introduced a plot element where everyone that enters that world experiences time independently. What might be a few hours for one artist could be weeks or years for another.
>>
>>95366928
i have a empty twitter page if that counts lol. i plan to use it when i finish up the comic for concept uploads or whatever.
>>
>>95400438
>In my opinion there are a lot of populair comics with mediocre-ish artwork or badly written stories

Exactly. It's the way of webcomics.
This applies to many very popular webcomics that wouldn't have a chance to get published traditionally but find a large audience when distributed world wide thorugh a platform like webtoons. Fujoshit, fan comics, politocomics (like the trans- gender- comic crowd) and generic fantasy / sci-fi stuff copypasted from WSJ series bordering on copyright infringment are all examples of this. It creates a kind of bizzare situation where MS-paint crap riddled with grammar errors has similar popularity as a publishable quality comic.

For the top 10% of webcomics measured by view counts it probably looks something like this:
50% quality comics, dispersed fanbase, general artistic merit as incentive
50% trash comics, dedicated niche fanbase, pandering outweighs low quality
>>
>>95400438
>Artwork?

I’d say Shadman is nice benchmark for minimum acceptable quality

Now the time to roll the optional themes has come. Someone has the pic you used the last time?

Spiders and Doors....

OK so for the next challenge it would be

>MAIN THEME: Spiders
>SECONDARY THEME: (choose one to play around alongside the main theme!)
-Doors
-Drag Queens
-Marshmallows
>DEADLINE: September 30

Now to wait until we reach page 9 or 10 so the new jani don't delete the new thread

We probably won't be entering this challenge either, but I got an idea for a spider themed WW2 character. Capeworld has needed some dark heroes. Every superhero universe has Punishers and Specters. Ours is a survivor of the Nanking Massacre.

I think her gimmicks are quite cool and creepy.

Page 1

Panel 1

“They say that you are never more than three feet from a spider.”

“This is not true.”

A Japanese soldier bolts down a street in occupied China.

Panel 2

“The truth is that they’re closer. Far closer.”

“I am Zhīzhū. And I know.”

As he trips over a market stall we see that his face is marked by a big red spider symbol. Four legs reach across his face like they want to tear it off.

Panel 3

“Eight legged microbes live in hair. In eyebrows. In skin.”

Close up on the soldier’s face.

Panel 4

“They live and die and breed and you do not know them.”

“But they know you.”

“I am Zhīzhū. And I know.”

The soldier falls and lands on his face.

Panel 5

“They dig into your face with their tiny claws, claws that will not come out even if you scratch your face raw.”

“Help me! Won’t anyone help me! Help me please!”

The soldier looks up to the crowd and begs for help.

Panel 6

“The Japanese soldiers dug their fingers into my face. Shattered my teeth. Tore my jaw.”

“I was once a great beauty. I was going to be a mother, one day.”

“Now I am mother to children that outnumber the stars in heaven.”

“Now my children dig their claws into the faces of Japanese Soldiers marking them with my sign.”

The Chinese civilians look down on the Japanese soldier with contempt.

Page 2

Panel 1

“No! Please don't leave me! I don’t want to die!”

In panels 1-3 the soldier begs for help while the civilians slowly turn around and leave him.

Panel 2

“I-I never touched a Chinese girl, I swear!”

Panel 3

“I didn’t want to do it! We had to! We had orders!”

Panel 4

“Please…”

The soldier is left all alone.

Panel 5
“My web is the entire world.”

Zhīzhū appears behind the soldier. She’s a large ghostly women in large dark robes. Her face is hidden by a hood. There’s nothing pretty or beautiful about her. Her hands look burnt and disfigured.

Page 3

Panel 1

“There is no hiding in my web.”

The Japanese soldier turns and gives a silent scream.

Panel 2

“There is no sanctuary in my web.”

Zhīzhū grabs the soldier by the face and pulls him up. We see through her fingers the soldier’s terrified eyes.

Panel 3

“There is no mercy.”

Spiders start crawling across Zhīzhū’s arm making their way to the soldier’s face.

Panel 4

The Spiders get closer.

Panel 5

“No mercy at all.”

The spiders start crawling on the soldier’s face.

Page 4

Panel 1
Japanese soldiers are standing over something talking to each other about what they’re seeing. Some take pictures. We don’t see what they’re looking at yet.

Panel 2

Camera pans down and we see the soldier from before now dead with a horrific death mask made of spider webs.

Panel 3

“I am Zhīzhū.”

Close up on three soldiers looking down at the body.

Panel 4

“And my children are the children of hate.”

The three soldiers now have the same red facial markings the dead soldier had, but none of them realize it yet.

So what do you think? She marks targets using facemites to agitate the skin into creepy spider patterns and then kills by suffocating them with spiders. And then leaves them with a web mask of their last horrified expression.

And the focus on the face and the spiders as surrogate children tie into her origin as a survivor.
