I know this expression comes out a lot, but I really feel like they couldn't make a show like that nowadays.

With basically everyone feeling like they are on the bring of an economic crisis, that we are living on a tight rope, having a show about a bunch of super rich teen having to deal with 1rst world country issues would feel insulting to most.
>>
I once had a conversation about that show, I might as well copy paste it:

>Can anyone tell me what was the deal with that Wilshire guy in “Beverly hills Teens”? I mean, initially, I thought he was just an employee, but “Beverly hills Teens” is all about a bunch of super rich teenagers, so, that mean that Bianca Dupree, who he is in complete love, is a teenager too.

>So, assuming he is old enough not only to work but also to have worked long enough to have gained the qualifications to work for such a rich family, he is basically an adult working for the father of that girl to be her driver and dreaming to fuck his underage daughter. And that is kind of creepy, even if he is a complete tool about it.

>I mean there is even an episode or two were they kiss (yuck, kissing! can you imagine it?). The only way to make it less creepy is he is also actually a rich teens and is somehow pretending to be his driver, as in being in a sick game of roleplaying where he is a complete submissive servant and she somehow agreed to it. And that is the less creepy scenario…
>>
>>96716364

the answer I got:
>There’s no doubt that Bianca’s and Wilshire’s relationship is completely messed up, but they ARE both teens. He goes to school with everybody else. And his family’s rich, too, or at least as far as I’ve understood it. So basically he doesn’t need to work or be Bianca’s driver (she doesn’t pay him, this has been made clear), but does it anyway, probably just to be close to her. He’s a grade A doormat, and has even stated he thinks she’s cute when she’s making evil plans. He’s got really weird taste in women, I guess.

>“I know it’s humiliating, but at least she’s touching me.” (Wilshire, after Bianca just used a willing Wilshire as a mat in order to step over a puddle)

>“…she makes me feel wonderful, even when she makes me feel awful.” (more of the same)

>At the same time, he’s expressed dislike or sadness at the way she treats him and others several times, and has objected to morally questionable deeds. So he’s not completely nuts, he just has a hard time saying no to her (and there’s gotta be something wrong with him, but that’s another story).

>As for her, she clearly has some kinds of feelings for him, as she’s missed him, kissed him, been freaked out when he was apparently hurt, and even said she loved him in a dream once (her own dream, from her perspective). But he’s such a clutz and so awkward and is always messing up, and she’s so arrogant and impatient and into status and popularity, so she’s always chasing Troy (or other eligible boys).

>I just saw an episode of Beverly Hills Teens where it was revealed that Wilshire has more than 3 million dollars in his piggy bank alone, so that means it’s been confirmed that he and his family are indeed rich, and that he definitely doesn’t need to work as a chauffeur if he doesn’t want to. I was always a bit unsure about his financial status, although my guess was that he was rich. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UhMXnm9o-9s&t=0m25s

Is Beverly Hills Teens the California Crisis of western animation?

I wonder who directed the OP of the show though because it's fucking great on a visual level. Easily among the all time best in a western cartoon.

I think the bigger issue is that with the growth of social media we realized that most of them are your garden variety idiots and jackasses only with more expensive clothes. The consolidation of the popular image of rich people shifting to Silicon Valley types didn't help, as it more or less stereotyped rich people into arrogant, weirdo, douchebag futurists.

I took exactly one good thing away from Earth 2 after it went to shit.

>>
>>96722627
Realistically speaking they'll probably be smart enough to not just be Cleverbot in a robot suit, but even though their AI will let them learn and evolve they probably won't reach the level of real human interaction. Bottom line, they'll learn to do whatever you want them to do, and react in ways that they know you find appealing, but you won't be able to stay up all night talking about philosophy in any meaningful way or anything.

1987 was much the same economically to be fair. The 1970s economic crises would be in parental memory, and through the 80s you basically just had a split where some people were helped to recover from that period and others were quietly held underwater until the bubbles stopped.

I still agree that you couldn't do it today, but now I'm frantically trying to think of reasons why that's the case. It's certainly an interesting prompt to thought.
(Present favourite: In the 80s, there was a movement was away from wanting employment stability towards wanting opportunities to get really rich. Now since the 2008 crisis we're in a place where some people are really rich, but larger numbers don't even expect to own their own houses.)
A less historically considered idea is that the problem is a bit more about the degree of "self awareness" in modern media, since it does seem less people would make the connection to real economic circumstances today than in 1987. That seems to be a thing too, since the spread of the internet. Can't tie that down with any historical data though.

I'll stop now because this is already dangerously off topic, but it's an unreasonably fascinating thing to dwell on.
>>
>>96783682
It's not really that hard. It's basically a whimsical, comedic version of things like The OC or Gossip Girl. As long as you can make the characters relatable and with goals and desires that are understandable the concept of them all being rich as hell is simply a part of the setting.
>>

No, you don't get it:
horsegirls are horrific. At least the crazy/obsessive types obsesses over you (in a good or bad way ) from time to time, but the girls that are into horses will always love the horse more than you. You'd be lucky to get a shred of attention at all.

I have a friend and several acquaintances that are married to horse women; they end up just being a means to an end (paying for the upkeep of the horses). It's scary to see a stereotype so closely followed in reality. Not talking about farm girls that just happen to ride a horse as part of their rounds every so often, I'm talking the spoiled equestrian types whose ponies eat better than most humans.

The dramatic antagonist almost never does. I can't name a single show where the bitchy popular girl is actually unlikable. They are usually benign to a point of cuteness and incompetent and/or unlucky to the point of pity.
>>
>>96786646
The solution here is to obviously love and raise the horse as if it were your own child. That's what the chick is looking in another person anyway and will love you more for it.

>Gee, I wonder who's behind this post?
>>
>>96792778
Incompetency and being pitiable doesn't make you a good person, just a fuck up. She's a petty, inconsiderate, backstabbing, jealous, shallow bitch who spends her days in opposition to her ostensible friends and trying to steal another chick's boyfriend. She's a G-rated upper-class thot.

Still felt sorry for her in that dream ep. though, when everyone was being an uncharacteristic shit. Nice to hear Larke's VA do a "nasty" voice.

Just get your lazy ass off that chair, go grab a tablet and get to work
Imagine all the steel rods and shiny pistons hammering into your self-insert's snatch you could draw instead of shitposting

I can’t believe people are talking about this show. I only saw it once when I was a kid, but watched more just a couple of years ago. The show is super 80s, and pretty dang cheesy, and being made for syndication is the only way this got 65 episodes. If it wasn’t for that awesome theme song, and chicks with big hair, I wouldn’t have checked it out.
You guys make me want to give it another go though.

The animation is close, if I remember. I've not watched that in ages.

>>96758290
No definitely not that. It was close, but it was almost like heavy metal 2000. Where a pair, a man and a woman, crashed on a planet or something after breaking out of a space station and stealing a space ship. The robot whore or toy of the owner of the ship or one that was in the bar malfunctions or something and forcibly tries to blow the guy as the girl walks off disgusted.

Been trying to figure out what it was for ages.

So you're saying her crime is being a real girl in a world of idealized goody-two-shoes?

Alternatively, search any booru for the corresponding tag, there's much less of it than of fembots, but it's out there and in considerable amounts.

>almost like
No, dumbass, it WAS Heavy Metal 2000. I remember that scene clearly and I very much doubt there's another movie with a scene so similar considering how rare that type of shit is.

Fun fact: I imagined what a modern take of Beverly Hills would be like if it included LGBTQ to "fit" modern standard, but without making new cast members or betraying the characters.

I quickly considered that, due to their lack of focus in the original show, Shannelle could be bi and Blaze could be gay and it wouldn't made a damn change to the 80's show. The two could even be a thing.

then I wondered, could I put a Trans in that too? And somehow it came to my mind Brenda McTech, aka "Switchboard", could fill tech bill. I even managed to work it out well within the universe of the show:
Brent Mctech, a year or two ago, asked his brother genius, Chester Mctech, for one of his investigation, to make a device to turn him into a girl "to see what it's like to be a girl and write a parer on it, to see what it's like, haha, just checking, haha", but then realised he felt much more comfortable as a girl and decided to stay like this, discovering her true self.

Of course she would be turned fully female on a DNA level, thanks to the Genius of her brother, because she is a super rich trans and will not settle for fake body operation like the plebeian trans.

And then it hit me: I had tried to made one of the character a trans, and somehow, I had picked the worst and most insufferable character to be one. It wans't even intentional...

Switchboard always annoyed me. Never knew she was Chester's sister until looking shit up now. I mean, it fits and all, but I don't recall her last name ever being mentioned?

Jett was best girl, or at least had best voice.

That's because everyone use her nick name instead.
