If someone were to ask you to tell them about Steven Universe, how would you describe the show and would you recommend it to them?

Nah, i recommend play Sims 2 again against this shit.

A fat little jew cries to his lesbian moms. I wouldn't recommend it, instead they should play Legend of Dragoon.

"It's about colorful, angsty rock monsters who protect this retarded kid who's basically Bobby Hill with superpowers. He even dates a girl named Connie."
I wouldn't recommend it to them, but that's really because nothing on CN has been good since Megas XLR.

I'd say;

'It's a show that got popular in a similar vein to Homestuck and other fandoms. While you may hear people say it's deep for a kids show or a show in general those people haven't really watched a lot of animation. It's a flawed piece of media people will try to tell you is flawless and will go through mental gymnastics to justify any flaw you might have with it. A lot of people liked it at first but it's becoming a drag and it's fanbase is dying, not just because of its shit schedule that it has no control over, but because the writers and the audience want completely different things. The advertisements and theme song might say it's about a kid going on adventures with his mystical guardians but it's really an SOL show that that has filler people will say isn't filler dispite the fact that you could remove the townie characters and the episodes and it wouldn't make a lick of difference to the average viewer. So no, I don't recommend it. You're better off with other things or at least wait till it's finished before committing yourself to it.'

Don't judge it by it's first episode and Don't expect to learn everything you want to know.
I recommend it if someone you know likes it, don't be the guy who has no one to talk to about it.
>>
It's a show about gemstone based beings called "Gems" and a boy who is half gem half human fighting evil gems from space.
wouldn't recommend though, the writers aren't good at pacing and most of the show is filler.

It starts out very promising with an interesting premise and cast of characters, but is ultimately ruined by ridiculous amounts of pointless meandering about nothing. The premise involves a half-breed human/alien being with developing powers raised by rebels and a fight against their corrupt homeworld, but it gets bogged down with insignificant side characters because they've reached a point where they're more concerned with pushing morals than telling a story.
The creator is well-intentioned and generally professional, and she's good about being inclusive without pointing fingers at any one group of people. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of the rest of the staff that works on her show, which she doesn't seem to have as much control over as she should.

At this point in time, I don't feel I can recommend it.

Pearl has a lovely voice, though, and I wouldn't be opposed to Deedee doing more voicework.

Are you 11 years old? Then watch it, it's a great, imaginative show with a positive message and fun characters. Are you an adult? Uh, well what I said still stands, but don't expect rich worldbuilding or a particularly deep story or anything, you should probably look elsewhere for that.
>>
>>99900608
I think it's pretty bad, kind of poor pacing but I'd definitely say watch the first season, and if you don't enjoy it, or stop enjoying it, stop watching because quality falls off as it goes along.

Story bogged down by an unwillingness to commit to a strong consistent narrative by both the staff and the studio, the staff who feel taking thing too seriously is cliche and bad and the studio who do it because dumb shit you can just put on without context gets better numbers.

Any meaning it has is shallow and it only survives by teasing meaning and depth to an audience either so starved for any type of representation they'll take anything or folks who want brownie points for liking something progressive.

A show that'll fade in history once it stops airing new episodes because it has no real substantial meaning

It starts very promising as an episodic show about a magical boy with his three female giardians having to find and defeat monsters with some hints about a deeper story but then the quality goes to shit and most episodes becomes filler where the main characters don't even show upand the animation gets so bad they can't even pull a decent fight scene when they are trying
>>
Some kid is his own mom and he lives with three space rock aliens because his mom was leader of these space rock aliens. They sing but most of the songs are ass and so is the animation. It's something I'd recommend leaving on as background noise.

>>99900608
I loved this show when it first came out. Now I'm just in awe of how badly they've fucked it up. I continue to watch new episodes so that when it finishes, I can accurately describe to people why they shouldn't like the show and every single mistake that was made throughout its creation. I'm not sure what my motivation is... I think I'm just resentful and hurt after seeing what its become because it had so much promise.

As it stands I'd probably describe it as a fucking mess. I'm fine with people being gay, bi, what ever. But I've come to the conclusion that its not cool to cram all those ideas into children's cartoons until we live in a world where everyone is on the same page. Many kids who like the show are forbidden to watch it by their parents. This is actually the case with a LOT of modern cartoons. Probably since a lot of modern cartoons are adding gay characters. The problem is if parents aren't willing to explain these concepts to their children, their children watch the show and become somewhat confused and uncomfortable sometimes. A lot of the time the show just feels like a means for the creator to force her opinions on people. "ALL lifestyles should be accepted! NEVER solve problems with violence! EVERYONE should be there for each other!" etc. Just looks kind of ugly and tacky the way its done.

Uhhh the show has pacing issues. It somehow has even more issues with focus. Its a show about some pretty big, epic concepts and then spends 2/3rd of the time focusing on slice of life crap and side-characters. Which wouldn't be bad if they made you care about any of them, but they fail at that. The show basically should have been a monster-of-the-week show with a subplot of each episode where one of the Crystal Gems learned a lesson or grew somehow. Season finales should have been Diamond boss battles that escalate in seriousness over time. There should be more fusions. Fusions shouldn't be a metaphor for sex. Do I really have to continue?

when you hear the title steven universe what do you think the show is about? a boy named steven exploring the universe? a show with a universe/space theme?
Nope, its a show about background characters. imagine watching your favorite movie but instead of the main character going on an adventure or engaging in the central plot its now about a random background character, extra #326, its about him contemplating buying a new grill or something, and the movie ends with a predictable and tacky ending of him having a barbecue with his friends. thats your favorite movie now, harry potter is now about goyle throwing a birthday party for his mom, LOTR is now about some random hobbit making a quilt, starwars is now about an ewok who wants to be an artist.

nothing of consequence will ever happen in this shows because of two factors that will just deus ex everything when the writers can't think of how steven will save the day.
in any fight scene there is nothing at stake as steven will just magically into a bubble whenever danger approaches and the gems can't die, only temporarily vanish. so whenever a boulder is hurdling towards steven or a laser coming right for him, you know the stupid pink bubble is going to pop up, and its always does.
and then there is the lion, who's only purpose is to deus ex machina things. the shows describes him as "mysterious and aloof" but this is just an excuse to not have him solve every single dilemma in the show. is there an enemy steven or the gems can't fight? lion will show up at the last minute and sonic roar them away. does steven need to get from point A to point B? lion will just open a magic portal and get him there in an instant. does steven need a magic key or macguffin in order to advance the plot forward? lion will show up for no apparent reason and just give steven the item.
this is a show where nothing happens, any new characters are shoved off to exile in the barn and any threat will be gone in 2 episodes.

Bravo, anon. I even support basically every "moral" the show espouses but it's so fuckin hamfisted, it just makes me feel so embarrassed. And in a show that started out so enjoyable too. The summer I found SU and marathoned every episode out at the time (up to Chille Tid) was just so fantastic. The backgrounds, the music, the mysterious lore, the waifufagging, the onpoint comedic timing, it was a perfect package for awhile. I wholeheartedly believe Ian leaving to do OK KO is what threw SU off the rails.

It starts out promising then feels like it starts to catch its wind, then just when it's really starting to go somewhere it starts to fall apart. Things are a little better now but it feels like it'll never live up to the promise anymore. There are characters that you'll grow to like, then love, then they get shoved aside for human characters at the drop of a hat.

Early on you'll be introduced to monsters and magical artifacts in a light action/adventure setting, don't get attached to this. By the end of season 2 the writers wholly forget about these aspects of the show, and anything not focused directly on the plot is a series of mundane stories about helping out boring human characters with little to no action at all.

I'd say it's worth watching at least for the first two seasons, and after that if you want to just keep watching until you don't really "feel" it anymore. In a few years when the show's wrapped up there'll probably be essential episode guides that you can just use instead of watching the whole show after the first couple of seasons.
>>
Steven Universe was a good show that had equal amounts of action, plot development, humor and filler. It went from a typical action show where the main characters go around hunting monsters to exploring the backstory of them, revealing that they fought in a war long ago against their own kind in order to save humanity, the monsters are really corrupted versions of their old friends and a larger threat looming across the horizon.

I say "was" because now the characters are nothing more but shells of themselves. They stopped evolving and in certain cases even devolved for the purpose of making memes. There's too much filler and the fact that the show is on it's last season and still has multiple filler episodes shows how far gone the show has become.

The "worldbuilding" as fans like to say about it is a joke. It rarely gets built and even then it's in small amounts. The writers refuse to take advantage of their setting to show what the rest of the planet is like and only focus on the main character's small town for some unexplainable reason. If the filler could build on this, it would be somewhat fine, but they still continue to focus on background characters.

In short, if the show had a different team behind it, the show could have been great.

I'd recommend Steven Universe. Not because it's a good show, but because it's fun to follow.
I remember back in 2016, when Lauren Zuke's secret blog was discovered and she became a laughingstock. I remember reddit and tumblr trying to deny that she quit and claim the blog was fake, and it was fun to watch evidence pile up in favor of it being real. I remember a year of Lapidot, uprooting, and barn jokes. I remember the episode where the uprooting happened, and laughing so hard that my stomach hurt because I wasn't expecting the uprooting to be literal. And that was just one thing going on during that time.
At some point, the fanbase and the crew drama transcends the show itself. I sure as hell didn't stick around /sug/ during the 7 month hiatus because of the show itself, that's for sure.
Steven Universe is pretty shit, but the fun I've had watching it and discussing it here and on /trash/ are an experience I wouldn't trade for the world.
