Posting in fresh bread XDDDD

Can someone recommend me a good aux cable with the slimmest possible connector? I have a pair of Bang & Olufson H6's but its stock cable died and normal aux cable connectors are way too wide.

https://www.amazon.com/VOJO-Auxiliary-Uncoiled-Tangle-free-Connector/dp/B01N56KSL2/ref=pd_sim_23_1?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01N56KSL2&pd_rd_r=1BKTE51BMR86QK9MKC9H&pd_rd_w=7TOky&pd_rd_wg=bXMoN&psc=1&refRID=1BKTE51BMR86QK9MKC9H

This is the only one I've found with a connector smaller than 6.25mm in diameter, but the reviews are scaring me off a bit. The only reason I need a new one is because the last one was bad.

Preferably a coiled cable too btw.

Hi I'm looking for a new headphones for my cool meme iPhone 4 because they are melting apart. These are the second headphones I buy for the iPhone. They cost me like 20€ if I rememeber it well. They are the official ones.

I don't know which materials Apple use to make the cables for the headphones and for the power cable but they break apart alone in 2 years.

I also bought a second official power cable and it is breaking apart as well. I have it fix with tape for the wires don't go out.

Apple accesories are shitty as hell.

Play around with the filter width "Q". That's the part where the parametric equalizer really is powerful. You need very little filters to fix that response. Perhaps two is enough for bass already so long as you use correctly sized filters.

>Lossless formats
>It's true enough that a properly encoded Ogg file (or MP3, or AAC file) will be indistinguishable from the original at a moderate bitrate.
>But what of badly encoded files?
>Twenty years ago, all mp3 encoders were really bad by today's standards. Plenty of these old, bad encoders are still in use, presumably because the licenses are cheaper and most people can't tell or don't care about the difference anyway. Why would any company spend money to fix what it's completely unaware is broken?
>Moving to a newer format like Vorbis or AAC doesn't necessarily help. For example, many companies and individuals used (and still use) FFmpeg's very-low-quality built-in Vorbis encoder because it was the default in FFmpeg and they were unaware how bad it was. AAC has an even longer history of widely-deployed, low-quality encoders; all mainstream lossy formats do.
>Lossless formats like FLAC avoid any possibility of damaging audio fidelity [23] with a poor quality lossy encoder, or even by a good lossy encoder used incorrectly.
>A second reason to distribute lossless formats is to avoid generational loss. Each reencode or transcode loses more data; even if the first encoding is transparent, it's very possible the second will have audible artifacts. This matters to anyone who might want to remix or sample from downloads. It especially matters to us codec researchers; we need clean audio to work with.

That's what everyone does. No one really likes or wants bass-heavy headphones. Your next step should be to sell them and buy natural sounding headphones.

I have a theory that retards who use IEMs and can't get any bass with them because they don't know how ot seal them properly end up byuing bass-heavy headphones and then regret it.

Don't buy it?
There are at least a few people who love it to bits, and other who do not. It is not remotely perfect, but it is an easy suggestion because it at least sets a baseline.
Head-Fi specializes more in these headphone sales sort of things, along with Slickdeals. If you aren't going to buy something right away, may as well set up an account there and wait for something to show up.

Dear /hpg/ I humbly request your help. I know next to nothing about headphones but am in dire need for a pair with the following features:
Noise cancellation (or great isolation);
Detachable wiring;
Wireless (if at all possible over bluetooth);

I don't have a budget.
Thanks for any help.
>>
>>59502978
>>59503017
How are the HD 598se relative to the HD 558? I'm looking at those instead.

I used these m40x but I realized there wasnt really a point for me to get closed headphones. I can probably just get some earbuds to use when i'm away from home if I don't want to disturb anyone, but at night in my place it's very quiet and there's no reason for me to be sacrificing the sound stage by not going open.

I'm also not going to be carrying $100+ headphones to my university or anywhere else for that matter.
>>
>>59503142
Better build quality, comfier, more detailed, more neutral. The only thing the HD 558s have going for it is more bass.
>>
>>59503142
in addition to what >>59503187 said, you can remove a piece of foam in the 558 cups to sound like 598's
>>
What are the go- to brands for cheap earbuds?
>>
>>59503122
I'd go for HD 4.40 BT Wireless. Fits all your categories. It doesn't have active noise cancellation but it isolates well because it's built well. Unless you're worried about construction noise, it will do you well.
>>
>>59503187
>>59503208
So I suppose if I wanted to truly stick around the same price range I should go 558's then?

I wanted a good pair of sub $150 headphones to learn audio before jumping into the $300+ price range. I wanted a single pair to last me until then.
>>
>>59503208
Somewhat? Removing the foam just frees the HD 558s from any bloated bass possibly drowning anything out. Bass is kind of meh in these headphones.
>>
>>59503241

Thanks, I'll check them out and likely buy some tomorrow. Any alternatives in case this doesn't work out?

Good noise cancellation is about the most important thing here (I work a lot at a noisy campus).

Don't waste a cent on cables, any properly insulated and wound cable will be fine.

I don't understand people going all autistic on cables and not pads. Pads play a much bigger role in how they shape a sound and its also easily measured.

Alright, /g/, I'm not huge on audio, but I know the basics.

After 4 years of abuse, the Jack on my M50s broke. I replaced it like 3 times and I keep buying shitty jacks from different sources and they just break within minutes.

Following the OP guide:

>I need full sized.
>Closed back is probably a must, I use the subway a lot, it makes noise, can't hear shit with the cheap earbuds I'm stuck with now.
>I'd like them to be comfortable, since I wear them for hours upon hours, but I can deal with them being a tad uncomfortable after a few hours.
>Honestly, I dunno. either neutral, or lightly v-shaped.
>I had M50s forever, nothing I hated about them except I worn the pads down so much they got uncomfortable as hell after like half an hour.

>>59504199
Yeah, that was me. I'll probably grab K712/K7XX or Q701's. The highs sound fine to me but then again my hearing just dropped to 17Khz max earlier today.
>>
>>59504355
Never tried the V6 - was considering that as well except that the cable isn't detachable. The MSR7 looks like a nice choice that I hadn't considered.

While I loved the sound from the Q701, part of my concern in purchasing new phones is that the vast majority of the "quality" in higher end headphones (basically anything over $150) comes more from the natural sound of the headphone (and individual preference thereto) rather than the physical capabilities of the design. IE: most anything above a fairly modest threshold can sound good to almost anyone when combined with a capable source and adjusted EQ.

From reviews and frequency response charts, I would say I could get a good idea of which headphones I would prefer listening to with a raw source, but I don't think that necessarily makes an extra $200+ worth it if it just means skipping the EQ.

If I bought the M40X for example, I expect I could reasonably level it off with some basic EQ and still get fairly outstanding sound overall.
>>
>>59504355

well what I meant by that was signature, the dt770 is a good v-shaped headphone, so you would probably like it. but are you ok with switching up the signature. with most people it's easiest to recommend based on what they already know. but if you think you know the kind of sound you want I could recommend other stuff, I just don't want to give you something you don't like. coming from m50s you will probably find a lot of "audiophile" headphones to be lacking in bass/thin sounding. that puts a lot of newbies off which is why it's sometimes bad to recommend things like a 598 to someone who has only heard beats.

>>59504519
eh, I'm of the heretical opinion that FR isn't everything and that EQ can't do everything. there are qualities of sound that you get from "better" headphones that are worth more than just not having to use eq as much. things like bass impact, extension, even and detailed mids, "airy" highs and such. but that's all just my opinion based on owning a lot of headphones and eq'ing them all towards neutral. I still find myself switching a lot deepening on my mood because they still sound significantly different after eq to my ears. as for build, it's all over the place. some cheap headphones are tanks, some expensive ones are like glass. you just have to know the tough ones. dt770, x2, v6, are all pretty damn tough. sennehisers look like they would break but they can stand drops and such because of the design having more "play" and less weak pressure points than other headphones.

my only gripe with the k7xx is that on many measurements it just seems less even overall than other AKGs. in the highs and upper mids especially. the k712 is already less even than the q701 and k702, but you gain bass as a trade off.
>>
>>59504686
Well, that's kind of the deal. I'm not necessairly looking for "More V-shape". Like, I see where you're coming from, I'd definitely not be super huge on going from M50 to a completely flat signature, but I'm not some bass zombie who bitches because my eardrums are still intact after listening to a 20Hz tone or something.

770s do look appealing, though.
>>
>>59504686
Fair points. Durability is always a concern - I am ok spending $300+ on headphones if I will get 5 good years out of them, but I am pretty hard on headphones so that can be asking a lot. I frequently drop them off my desk, pull on the cable, or roll over long cables with my chair.

I am leaning towards the M40X right now, but the MSR7 is quite tempting; I'm just not sure if it will be worth double the price in practice.

I am going to sleep on it for tonight and order something tomorrow.

Apples and oranges. You have to compare individual models.

you would probably love the X2 but it's open and expensive. might like the dt880 as well, brighter than the X2 but still "mildly v-shaped". problem is there are not that many mildly v-shaped headphones on the market. in my experience it's easier to buy something v-shaped and good and then lowering the bass and highs some with eq to where you like it. that way it's not totally overpowering or harsh but you still get that added oomph of pressure. that's what I do with my X2. so you can get the dt770 and lower the peaks. when it comes to bass, reduction usually works better than addition when it comes to impact. anyone who has tried to make something like the 598 bassy has experienced this.

>>59504795
you should know that bigger pads help a good but with comfort and adding some bass impact. I use pleather srh-840 pads on my m40x. you should get them off amazon and then if you don't like them, return them and move up.

>>59504795
all the ATH-A line are bass roll-offy last I looked, could be wrong. but considering that, I don't see why you would buy anything in that line over a 598.

My AKG K712 Pro driver broke and I'm thinking about four scenarios:

1 - Buy another AKG K712 Pro
2 - Buy spare parts for the AKG K712 Pro and repair it
3 - Buy a HD 600
4 - Buy a ATH-R70X

(Note: All open, I prefer opens)

For me I prioritise:

a) Neutral audio, low THD
b) Comfort for long periods of listening
c) Construction quality

What should I do? Also do you have another suggestion? I'm willing to spend but I'm not an audiophool so wouldn't overspend (e.g HD800 is a joke).

Looking to get some 150-200$ headphones (first time), thinking about the 598 or 598cs what's the difference between the two, also what's the difference between over ear and closed back, and i listen to all types of music so if you think my choice is shit please recommend me something else in the same price range
>>
>>59505753
AKG K612's are nice though need an amp. 598's aren't bad for an all arounder and can be driven fine off onboard though sound better on an amp as well.
>>
>>59505753
The only thing they have in common are with their names. The Cs' are coloured and muddy as fuck, while the open-backed version is not. Just do yourself a favour and forget Sennheiser has even made them the Cs'; they're absolute shit. Get the 598s, forget about the 598 Cs'.
>>
>>59505753
Closed means that the cups don't have an opening on the back of them. Open is the opposite which gives them an airier sound at the cost of letting all outside noise in and all noise coming from the headphones out.
The 598cs are closed back versions of the 598 but overall shittier, open/closed designs aside. They only share name and design, everything else, most importantly the drivers and materials for the earpads. If you want an open headphone the 598's are a fine choice in that price range, look for something else if you want closed.

The center bit was easy enough. I fixed mine 3 times. The reason it kept breaking was the mini-XLR connector was jammed and wouldn't be released no matter how much you pulled on it and presed the little button. The wires used on the inside looked REALLY cheap.
>>
If you're a poor fag Monoprice DJ Premiums, they're 5 bucks, come with an extra cable, and the 50mm drivers they use are excellent. It uses proper insulated cables inside and especially if you get their white pads they're actually pretty comfortable. That leaves somewhat larger open (HD 558 and SHP9500S) and some closed options (XPT100/variants, DT 770, and the Custom One).

Basically what that adapter tries to do it eliminate interference from your PC

For example, without the adapter my Mic sounds awful, I'm extremely quiet and there's a lot of buzzing

Once I plug my mic into the adapter, my voice is a lot louder, clearer, and there's a hell of a lot less static

Hey, I've always gotten turtle beaches because they actually go loud enough for me to get immersed in the music and have a cord long enough to dance to it.

Sadly, they are shitly made.

So when I'm looking for a new pair, what is the term or thing to look for the determines their loudness. I'm tired of getting 40-60$ headphones where the music gets no louder than a cheapo pair of earbuds.
>>
>>59512581
Get an amp like the E10k or Fulla 2, and stay away from turtle beach.

Cheap earbuds should be able to get pretty loud, don't want to damage your hearing, anon.

If your sound is constantly changing to adapt to your environment, there is going to be some if only so slight impact on quality
>>
>>59511712
>Yes, obviously
If you think that, you probably would already have an answer or two. But if you don't know why, how can you even have an opinion here?

They aren't universally bad any more so than headphones in general are. A common issue with active noise cancelling headphones compared to most other headphones is the self noise emitted by the active circuitry required for the ANC. The rest of the possible issues are shared with other headphones. Active circuitry blocks out continuous low frequency noise, sometimes effectively much more than a conventional passive sealed headphone would. Tradeoff is the battery operation and possible noise. With technology maturing these can likely be made insignificant or they might already be depending on your criteria.

I burnt in my dt990 250ohm last night and I'm just so happy with them. I just get off so hard on the way female vocals peak in trance on them. People hate but at $150 or so they are a god tier purchasae if it suits your taste.

Anyway my dragonfly black can drive them to exactly a comfortable listening level. i think that maybe some more power, even though I wouldn't play them louder than this would have a positive effect on the sq. Any good amps, JUST AMPS, not a dac, that can do 250ohm? Maybe like a tube amp to warm up the 990's just a tad?
How often would I have to replace the tubes?

> i think that maybe some more power, even though I wouldn't play them louder than this
You don't understand how that works. With more power they can potentially be louder. Unused power is nothing but waste, headroom.

>would have a positive effect on the sq
Only if there is something downright wrong with the setup now. More power doesn't have anything to do with SQ beyond volume.

>Any good amps, JUST AMPS, not a dac, that can do 250ohm?
Yes, every amplifier. I'm guessing you don't have a clue about impedance either as it does not tell how much power/voltage you need for driving headphones and on its own impedance is a spec you don't ever have to know. Anyway, higher impedance = easier to drive but high impedance headphones on the market tend to be on the lower side of sensitivity. This includes 250 ohm versions of the DT990.

Also DACs don't drive headphones or any load for that matter.

>Maybe like a tube amp to warm up the 990's just a tad?
Tube amplifiers aren't warm. Maybe a shitty one is.

>How often would I have to replace the tubes?
Thousands of hours if the tubes are good. You'll notice it.

You are having a problem related to frequency response so to fix it you have two options: an equalizer or a pair of headphones that suits your tastes better.

There is no problem but thanks. The potential to play the headphones would be nice.
When I see people look for sources they generally just say the ohm rating for their headphones. Amps are even advertised that way. My dragonfly black says up to 150ohm, there is a creative amp that says up to 600ohm. If higher impedance is easier to drive why are the 600ohm 990s easier to drive than the 250ohm 990s?

And it's of very little use most of the time. Sometimes none.
>My dragonfly black says up to 150ohm
>there is a creative amp that says up to 600ohm
And plenty of other amps are advertised this way. I've been vocal about this before but I think this sort of spec sheet is part of the reason why people have such a warped conception of impedance and amplification.
>If higher impedance is easier to drive why are the 600ohm 990s easier to drive than the 250ohm 990s?
Less power draw due to lower load impedance presented to the amplifier. Amplifier being strained less, heats up less and distorts less. However the 600 ohm version here is less sensitive, roughly a 3dB drop at the same input voltage compared to the 250 ohm version. You will need an amplifier with larger voltage swing to drive it equally loud.

Years ago I bought an HD800 on amazon, amazon mentioned that due to the high price of the HD800, it requires signature upon delivery.

I come home from work one day and found my HD800 at my doorstep, brand new in box, everything's fine. But what if I could get it for FREE?

I went on amazon's customer service chat and reported that I hadn't gotten a delivery. They gave me $100 in amazon credit and immediately shipped another HD800 for me, which I sold on Craigslist afterwards.

Most people and I personally think that 320kbps mp3 is sufficient . Currently bluetooth is dog shit for audio because it just straight sound bad. A new bluetooth codec called LDAC can deliver 990kbps audio bandwidth. Will this make wireless headphones passable?

Right now they are unjustifiable and ridiculous. It bothers me that my local best buy only sells one pair of wired headphones and they're the apple ones. Every single other headphone is wireless.

Seriously, if I had that much money to get myself something nice I would research the SHIT out of potential purchases and literally try them all. Being a lil' faggit you are, you gave no specifications for your music, past headphones or any sound preferences.

There are >>59515372 HD 800 with shiit stack. Then there are MrSpeakers with closed ETHER C for 1500 or Aeon for 700, they are new tho and there are only 'professional' reviews out there but I am yet to find someone who was dissatisfied with MrSpeakers products altho at this price it might be as well a circlejerk. Then there are Fostex TH-900 that go around 1k, 1300 on amazon and 1,100 on ebay. Then there are STAX systems, they are electrostatic and need their own amps, like SRS-3100 that goes for around 800. Then there are ZMF headphones with their high end going from 900-1300. Then there are Audeze LCD-breakyourneck-2 for 1k and EL from 700-800. Then there are Audioquest nightsomething, going around for 700. Finaly focal eclair and HiFimans.

There are so many 'hight end' headphones out there, here all I know so you can proceed all that info and go to your store to hump all of them because that what I would do if I was going to sped a fucking 1.3k on headphones. But none of this may matter, you might go in try all of this shit and then try HD600 or X2 or something for 300$ and be completely satisfied with it. Or you might buy speakers if you live alone and that will satisfy you more depending on your preferences.

>>
>>59515195
>1.3k
Christ. That budget does allow for a lot of screwing around.

I'd start by getting a good dac+amp like the O2+ODAC or the Schiit Stack.

DACs might seem like a meme, but having a good external DAC ensures you're not getting screwed by your source or at the very least you've got something good to compare against. Good DAC chips are cheap, and any good 2 DACs will sound the same, yet often enough in devices such as motherboards or smartphones, they cheapen out way too much, typically in isolating the DAC (introducing noise) or amplifying (causing non transparent FR), and the end result is flawed.

Then with the rest of the budget (still a lot left!) you could pick some actual cans.

From all I've personally tried, HD600 (which I own) are the only ones I'd dare say are a must.

That still leaves a lot of budget to play around with other fun options (like planars and electrostatics), but likely, the HD600 are the ones that are going to get the most use regardless.
