Because Winshit 10 breaks like half the program compatibility. Windows 7, 2000, and 98SE are the best versions of Windows made for home use. Otherwise you'd have to use the Embedded/Server versions to have anything as stable and usable as those. That's the state of Microsoft software. Maybe in another 10 years when ReactOS has better stability and driver support I'll switch to that. Otherwise I'm just going to keep on using Fedora as my main OS and Windows 7 in a VM for legacy software.

avoid the "Rollups" at all costs, each one adds telemetry, even if you gut the telemetry from the last rollup, the next one re-installs it.You have to manually install the updates within the rollups to avoid this. google/searchengineofyourchoice is your friend in finding out more.

You did this to yourself Microsoft, you reading you street shitting shills? You fucked over your user base, the hardcore Windows users, you fragmented your own customer base, you are forcing a fucking regression in software use while trying to force users to "upgrade" to your broken, inconsistent, spyware/adware-bloated hunk of shit. You gambled and you lost, hard. Winblows 10 user base actually shrunk in the last month. No amount of shilling will change that, and even cutting out new Windows 7 updates from installing on new hardware will stop us from using it. It is the last best OS from Microsoft, and in this posters opinion the last OS, period. RIP in pieces M$ of old, you will be missed.

Except not. Microsoft makes a lot of money through partners who rely on Windows as a feature to sell. Microsoft makes an overwhelming majority of their money through having Windows everywhere as it increases enterprise attach rates. "Killing off Windows" would ruin the entire strategy.

Like, stop being utterly retarded about the situation. At most dramatic, they're treating Windows like an ongoing beta and that's a fucking problem, not that it's being "killed off".

>>
>How come you are still using a nearly 10 year old OS?

Because it works, it's rock solid stable, it's just as secure as anything else (like it or not), and it runs all the software I require without issues unlike newer versions of Windows.

Windows 7 is the best operating system Microsoft ever created and I will continue using it for many years to come whether Microsoft likes it or not, or anyone else for that matter.

Bitch.
>>

>>
>>62793753
The problem with vista was when it came out it required top end systems or everything ran like hell, and with the new way everything worked, compatibility was a nightmare driver wise, along with a very VERY fun nvidia had shit drivers and caused nearly 50% of all windows crashes

yea, vista was a fucking trainwreck when it came out.
then hardware got cheaper,
then they patched the os to be less shit.
by the time 7 came around, vistas issues were more or less fixed besides nvidias drivers and the hardware to run it well was a 600-800$ all in one walmart box tier.
7 came around, with all the improvements to vista without any of the legacy compatibility issues and hardware was ready for it.
vista became good over time, windows 7 was good out of the box.

now compare 7 to 10, and 10 is a fucking dumpster fire of malware the os and till equifax happened, I assumed the microsoft data breach would be the most devastating thing that would happen considering 10 has a keylogger in it.

But I don't like the control microsoft has in installing and removing shit from my os or changing settings, I also fucking despise the flat ui, I refuse to use 10.

I tried using Windows 10, and couldn't last more than 7 hours before I gave up and moved back to 7.

I know there are workarounds for this, but I remember setting my wallpaper on Win10 and seeing the compression just completely crumble it to shit, that was almost enough for me to give up there and then. Then it's the email application forcing a password on your lockscreen.

I will avoid it for as long as humanly possible. even though I hate how windows 7 looks.
>>
>>62793924
7 is just vista rebranded
and that was a 3 year wait period for a rebranding
in the same 3 year period they've had to do a complete 180 from 8.1 to 10

so comparing 7 and 10 without any sort of context is completely useless, sure it might make sense in the eyes of a consumer because that's the upgrade path, but that's just not the only perspective

Windows 7 also does this JPEG recompression shit by default. You have to use the APIs directly (either through image programs like IrfanView that allow you to set a wallpaper, or even fucking Paint) to set an uncompressed bitmap as wallpaper.

>Windows 7 compresses wallpapers by default
It leaves the wallpaper's compression level. 8.1 and 10 recompresses them. And they do a bad job.
Here's an example of a JPEG created with PS and saved with the least amount of compression, then set as wallpaper (red colour is the most fucked usually).
>>
Telemetry on Windows 7 and Windows 8 is opt-in.

On 10 you can't even turn it down to a minimum level unless you have Enterprise.
>>
>>62794247
They do the same shit in the EU

Did you use a png? If so, redo the test but make the test image a jpeg, save it in the highest quality in photoshop, it's not going to matter it's gonna shit it up.
>>

So it's not doing the same shit 10 does. In 10's case it's accepted when you install it and start using it. In 7 you have to separately join the "improvement" program before it starts collecting same shit. You never agree to it when you installed 7. They can't change the contract just like that.

No. A JPEG. Point was that 7 does not recompress JPEG pictures, unlike 8.1 and 10. It does compress PNG though. Idk about BMP. But you can get some pretty, low compression JPEG files as well. With PS and with GIMP. Actually GIMP does an even better job than PS. Here's an example with GIMP.

Shit i fucking wish bruh. Ex heroin junkie busted on b&e in the heroin capital of the US. Only did 18 months, but it was not fun. If you're a big dude like i am you're pretty much guaranteed to fight. If it's not some new guy that's seen too many movies and thinks people will respect him if he tries to fight the biggest dude he can find, it's the actual mean mother fuckers that you do NOT say 'no' to that drag you along when then want to put boots to someone.

My first 8 months went by pretty much without incident and i just kept to myself, sat in my cell, and when i had to leave i learned the right time to keep my fucking mouth shut and when to throw out a "fuck you" to not look like a weak pussy. It was the next 3 months where i got pulled into running with the double homicide dude until he got transferred and the only reason i didn't end up with a longer "vacation" was everyone was too afraid of the dude to say shit about who fucked them up. The rest of my bid was back to the normal "sit in a room and do fuck all" after he was gone.

And this wasn't even a hardcore prison either. I mean, it's a max prison, but it's not nearly as bad as some of the others I've heard of. A lot of the dudes i was in with had been to ones way worse and called jessup a hotel by comparison. I did get to help take care of puppies, though, so i can kinda see what they mean. I want to do a fresh install of Windows 7, but my problem is I never update it because:

>Windows Update gets randomly stuck and can never update
>Microsoft installs these "telemetry" crap.
>Not really sure of what I'm doing.

Do you guys have any general process for fresh installs of Windows 7? Like all necessary updates without Microsoft crap? Then after that, should I keep using Windows update? Or is there a community driven package of all the "good" updates?

Should I just use this this guys >>62794034 script as well?

You can download all updates individually from within windows itself. It's really not that big of a deal. Zero need to use alternative services. You have a browser don't you? Googling KB891725 provides all the information you could ever need.

I'm not paranoid actually, I just think it's pretty stupid when people demand something more secure/private and then turn around and use random shit shilled to them.

That thing isn't stable or reliable. I've only dealt with Professional 64 bit versions of 10 to be honest. I can go on about the cons of the operating system. I'd love to hear an argument against the privacy implications of running such an OS. With all of the botnet hysteria, I figured this would be an obvious assumption that such an OS is never a good idea. The notion that it comes more secure oob is non sense. You cannot configure Windows 10/Server 2012 any more secure than you can 7/Server 2008 R2. I've cracked local admin accounts on Server 2012, with an Active@ PW reset ISO from 2003.

I'd be okay with that on the home version that comes with every PC but to get the same experience even after you pay to "upgrade" is absolute shit. If you can't afford Windows 10 enterprise you shouldn't pay for the inferior version.

yeah isn't that what Microsoft did when they celebrated Windows 10 (that they literall couldn't give away) finally beating XP in the market share.
Still less than 40% adoption at this stage is pretty fucking hilarious... so yes your graph does make me feel better about not joining Botnet 10, cheers

I have switched to Linux several years ago and I'm absolutely not looking to come back to Windoze

It doesn't win... I prefer Linux all day and don't give a shit about market share, I find it funny watching Windows 10 fail though

I guess things aren't going too well for you at Microsoft at the moment, well you just hang in there buddy, maybe people will buy that retarded Cortana speaker thing and you might get a Christmas bonus after all ;)

this, most Win7 fags will join the Open Source community when the time comes to switch

Windows 7 in a VM obviously. If you care about muh Windows exclusive games which can't run in WINE then you dual boot.

Kek it sounds like I've struck a nerve there fella,
I never said I hated Microsoft, I just find their recent OS to be utterly shite... and yes I do use Windows10 at work but would never consider it installing at home.
If that fact triggers you then I'm standing by my theory that you're a MS Shill or your Dad works for them or something

I'm not. Once the stupid popup for W10 started happening, I bailed on Windows altogether.
>>
>>62802879
I just does it... by Default the Add-on or module is called the "Desktop Experience", once you install it and activate the "Themes" services, just restart then pick/customize your Aero settings and set the taskbar to small view or whatever. Time+Date is shown...
>>
>>62804356
That's what XP users said about 7 when they saw the "upgrade now" popup.
>>
>>62804467
I actually used XP, and don't recall an "upgrade now" popup on it. Also, wouldn't they do it with Vista, instead of 7?

Toward the end of XP's support lifecycle there was an update pushed via Windows Update that displayed a taskbar tray icon and occasionally popped a balloon up saying that XP was about to stop getting security updates and that the user should consider upgrading.
>>
>>62804673
>moving the goalposts

There is a big difference in seeing a small popup and having your OS "upgraded" against your will.
>>
>>62804725
And there's the difference. Even with automatic updates enabled XP would only warn you that you're about to stop getting support. 7 and 8 literally upgraded automatically to an OS that takes away user control and serves as an advertising and data collection platform.
