Man, this anniversary edition is actually a bit exciting. It has the good keyboard and everything. I feel a bit silly. I kinda want to buy it, but can't afford it right now. I hope it sells fast enough that they reintroduce good keyboards or badly enough so that it's still available when I can get it.

Imagine that your a room with all computer brands in the world, discarding Apple.

In front of you is all the 'editor's choice' laptops.
Then next to you is a Thinkpad, that unlike it's competition won't become slow at the span of a few years. Thinkpads are the most reliable laptops in the PC market.

I get that. But usually when something is being shilled this hard, there are at least a couple pros. This "retro" thinkpad has more cons than anything to me. $2k can get me a P series thinkpad if I wanted it. Or a Dell Precision workstation laptop.

The only thing thinkpad related I'm hype for is the upcoming A275/A475. Thinkpad X470/T470 shells and build quality. But with AMD processors and both starting at sub $900.

Biggest reason is Thinkpads are cheap as fuck.

I got an X230, which has a third gen i7, for $120

Because Intel processors after third gen switched to ULV, it is still just as capable performance wise as most laptops still coming out today

If AR coating obliterates image quality somehow why are most optical systems equipped with it? Both projector and camera / video lenses feature it and have for decades.

What I hate about my Yoga is the fact that it has a touchscreen because a touchscreen means it has to have a super reflective, glossy screen. If there's a light behind me, I have to move my head to read what's behind its reflection. Screen brightness doesn't affect this.

My shittier Lenovo has a matte screen, and it diffuses glare, and it's readable af. I'm stuck with less readability because Lenovo wants to pander to toddlers who fingerpaint on screens like everything's an iPad, which is the only reason you'd make a screen that glossy.

And battery life is incredible
>>

>This is the only reason T440p is recommended here
That and also the nice battery life and the fact that it never throttles even at max load, and it's only 14 inch laptop

A T420 with a QM swapped in will throttle
>>
>>62804370

>>62804449
T440p does not throttle under stress testing at all.

>>
>>62804464
>Our test model has an Intel Core i7-4700MQ

Nice try. This thing will throttle just as bad stress testing if you actually give it a processor clocked above 4GHz. 4900MQ was the highest offered for the T440p (which they didn't test), and that is clocked about the same as my 3840QM, which never throttles at stock. You are misleading people into thinking the T440p has some new/better cooling that T430/T420 does not, which is false. You'll need to step up to the 15 inch series for actual cooling during stress testing >4GHz.

This is true. I need my classic keyboard though.

I have an X240 and a W541 and I'm waiting on a cheap XM.

Lenovo fails to realise that it's not the aesthetics that made the old thinkpads popular. They're ugly bricks.
It's that they're also built like bricks, both in terms of build quality and internally, with standardised hardware and the like.

So by making a new one, which is just all the bad things about new laptops but with an ugly case, is just dressing up their new shit to superficially look like back before they designed out everything good about thinkpads.
>>
>>62805182
Really the P51 is more retro than the T25
>>
>>62805182
pretty much. The colored Thinkpad logo is the worst part.
I guess they think we're retards.
>>
>>62798694
Except it's loaded with surveillance/non-costumizable/non-free hardware defeating the purpose of a ThinkPad.
>>
>>62805470
>Implying Lenovo cares about people who only buy used, older model Thinkpads
It's for people who bought them at their original prices for actual business work, not installing Arch as a useless hobby.
>>

>best displays on any laptop

This is objectively not true. The displays are pretty good, but not 99% aRGB/sRGB accurate, and they have lower resolutions and pixel density as other IPS displays in gaming laptops.

Until Apple adds wide color gamut to the Macbook instead of the iMac, they’re a far distance away from being the best displays on the market.
>>
>>62802695
Fuck off. You know I meant mDP. They're practically the same thing.
>>
>>62801166
glossy means there is more optical transmission you fucking numbskull

People with glasses don’t walk around with lightly frosted glass lenses. People don’t take photos with matte camera lenses.

They get anti glare coatings on crystal clear optics.

This. who asks 1900 for those specs? even Applel doesn't do it that badly.
>>
It's a nice piece of hardware with some throwback tech on it but it's $600 too expensive, simple as that.
>>
Literally, LITERALLY, the same thing

I am not even joking. The packaging and add-ons are a million times better than the product. That is sad.

Everybody loves chocolate anon.

sure, disgusting chocolate coming from god know where

It better be the best motherfucking chocolate on earth, that shit isn't a $1900 laptop and that money has to have gone somewhere.

Rather get a Mac for the price they are selling this shit at. No benefits whatsoever.

No, thanks.

Maybe you should take the hint that Linux is a worthless OS in the business field which this laptop is made for.
>>
>>62809674
>computer
Think you meant laptop
Except for isolated usecases laptops are useless for highend
If you need high end chances are you're sitting down at a proper workstation anyway where you can get a lot more value per dollar.

For most use cases, it's best just to get something with a good kvm interface and battery
>>
A fucking macbook would be a better for a laptop. This is the absolute state of Gookovo trash. Simply a shitter copy of the itoy.

Almost all good qualities that made the Thinkpad a better, more adaptable machine are gone.
-harder to disassemble with newer models
-good dock and battery extension options are gone
-fucked keyboard layout and style
-limit standard enterprise port selection for many models
-worse chassis construction
-shit aspect ratio, panel quality, and resolution options

ThinkPad vs Asus Zenbook? Legitimately interested which makes for a better purchase.

For example thinking of purchasing the ASUS ZenBook UX430UQ.
>>
>>62806655
>BGA 940MX
And there goes my purchase, i was about to buy it but fuck BGA graphic cards.
I need MXM.
>>
Is it just me or is the Thinkpad 25 a hugely average laptop for far more than its worth? I see nothing that screams "Thinkpad" at me other than a blue enter key, I don't see the build quality I want or the huge battery I need or anything else that made older Thinkpads special.

Why would anyone buy this?
>>
>>62802758
>ideapad rebrand
>literally same schematics as ideapad line (aka class action lawsuit botnet superfish)
>probably touch meme and will permastain screen due to that meme keyboard
lol
what a joke.

Is €372 for a new Acer Swift 1 a decent price? I want a light and little laptop I can carry around when I go to afternoon's meetings at school, I'll use this laptop to write/edit documents and for occasional web surfing. My old Asus S56CM is dying, so I'd like to get a new laptop soon.

> thinkpad
I can't find decent prices even on used ones here.
>>
>>62798694
>it has a dual core
>it has a 1080p monitor
>it has no ports
>it has a shitty laptop GPU
>it has no hardware configuration options
>it has a price on 1900USD
It's literally has all the downside of a MacBook without the pros of a MacBook or an old thinkpad.
>>
>>62812859
don't they die like in 2 years. the motherboards suck ass on those. just go with a p51
>>
>>62795335
>make retro thinkpad
>make it 1900 US dollars
>make it 1080p
>make it with zero customization

Wow. Lenovo really knows how to make a good system.

what's wrong? They gave the hipster exactly what they wanted.
