Just saw a video of those automated phone buying terminals you can sell your phone at, what's stopping someone from lying about the condition of the phone to get more money? (Since the machine does ask the user to state the condition as part of the process.) I know it can detect some stuff like cracked screens but surely it's not perfect otherwise they wouldn't even ask?

Hey all, finally making the upgrade from my stock AMD cooler straight to a Noctua. Ordered the U9S and it came today, but as I took it out of the box and looked at it, I realised how skinny it was. I decided going for the U9S as I'd have just under 4cm clearance with my side panel and thought this would be better for airflow, but now I'm wondering if I would've been better off just going for the U12S, even if I only have 4mm clearance with the side panel.

In a high ambient temperature environment where my PC lives (main concern right now, I think it's the majority of my cooling problems), would I be better off with the extra clearance space for better airflow, or with the extra height of the U12S but reduced airflow in my case? I haven't had any problems with cooling my GPU or other components so far but I was thinking I might run into that problem with a larger model considering I'm only on stock now with pretty good clearance.

Also can I trust Coolermasters websites measurements? I've never upgraded my stock CPU coolers and 4mm seems like it might be a bit of trouble to fit into my case and I don't want to have to return this cooler I already ordered, then another one, then reorder the cooler I already returned in the first place

Thanks all

What the fuck did I do to my laptop?

>have it for 3 years

Then I read some random forum that was looking for a fix to get a game to load and the mentioned right clicking on C: in explorer, going to properties, error checking

I did that and it went for a few minutes and found some 5,500 'events' or whichever and now my laptop is running factory new without any other changes. I didn't even need a restart

Any reason why file transfers from one HDD to another would be dog slow but only sometimes? I'm talking about transfers of a single large file (tens of GB) and right now it's ~40 MB/s but often it gets below 20 MB/s. Sometimes it'll be fine at over 100 MB/s. I cannot figure out why it's often slow. Things I've looked at:

>source and destination drive both get over 100 MB/s in sequential benchmarks
>resource monitor shows nothing else is using the drives
>the source disk (my "downloads" landing drive) is not fragmented
>both disks show no issues in SMART data
>CPU usage isn't unusual
>both HDDs are plugged into motherboard SATA 3 Gb/s ports
>I have the latest compatible Intel RST driver installed (12.x)
>initiating the same transfer from another PC on the network exhibits the same behaviour

I used to think it was due to the fact that I was transferring to a storage pool but the behaviour is the same if I bypass that completely. I'm tearing my hair out with this one!

My PSU is pic related. As of late when I boot the computer it sometimes makes a shitload of noise, as if there was something loose that the fan keeps hitting/vibrating.
The only way to get it to work properly again is to completely shut down the computer and boot up again, but it doesn't always work and I don't want the room to sound as if there was a jet turbine or spend more time rebooting/opening up the case/cleaning the damn thing again (pretty spotless, cleaned the whole rig with compressed air)

Is it just safe to assume the majority of people selling video cards for reasonable prices, regardless of whether they're AMD or Nvidia, have used the cards for mining?
Is it even worth buying a video card anymore, unless you go for the 1080+?
I found a GTX 970 for about $150 AUD, which is about the same price as the low-end 1050's, so was considering getting that, since I'm still on a GTX 660.
I don't care about the 3.5GB meme, since I'm only playing at 900p-1080p anyway, so most games that I play won't max that at higher settings.

If you use it just for Netflix and similar, then speed and server coverage.
For example I used Expressvpn for a year and of all the US servers - they had a lot, like 50 or so - I had like 2-3 max that actually worked.
And it costed a lot, I think 60$ per year.
other vpn's offer varied other features, like security and not tracking your shit

When developing an app or a website with a chat service, is it generally a good/bad idea to use XMPP? It is very easy to setup an XMPP server, the protocol is already written so i don't have to re-invent the wheel, there are plenty of security options for most server packages.
The only thing i'll have to do manually is writing the client for the website/app, but that's obvious.
If you want a more direct question:
could XMPP be used to write something like Whatsapp, Kik or Signal?

Looking to buy a charger for NiMH batteries. It should be able to load variable battery sizes, most importantly AA, AAA and(!) AAAA.
Also it should be one of those smart chargers that shut down when the battery is full.
Any recomendations? I'd appreciate a link to good reviews as well, were either outdated as fuck, or were obviously trying to shill some product.

After some searching pic related seems to be pretty perfect, if it could fit AAAA batteries. The BC 4000 expert can fit those, but it's also expensive as fuck, is there some alternative?

Drives are drives no matter the interface, a USB drive works the exact same way in the OS as a sata one does. IMO if I'm on a desktop I'd rather get another internal drive if I want more storage

How would any of us know that, and how is that technology related?
I assume it depends on the mood of the postal worker though. Some might be so nice and look for the correct PO number. But others might be stressed from having a long work day, and just refuse the mail or send it back.

Did I solve it right?

I figured out some more angles, then subtracted the 231 from the 309 to get 78 which is apparently the full angle of the 51, which ends up with 12

I then overlayed some pie charts and it lines up perfectly with 78

Did I figure it out? If so why does that work? I was just guessing.

What happens is that the screen goes black and whatever sound I was listening to goes on repeat. The computer wont take any input either.
I know this is a software problem since my windows 10 install doesnt have this problem.
Im using the amdgpu drivers for my r9 390 and I have a fx6300 cpu.

Intel finally released 6-core mainstream CPUs, Zen APUs are coming soon, and Ryzen 2 will be Q2 or Q3 release(albeit that's not really exciting release, because it'll be just a clock bump on a better process). Oh, and it's rumored that Zen 2 will have 6-cores per CCX, and that Intel might release 8-core mainstream processors a generation or two from now. Yes and No. Cheap LCD TVs are just TN panels, and in the days of analog inputs they'd usually put some shitty proprietary scaling/post processing filters in there so they could say they had a better picture. These days everything is digital so why should the TV be doing any filtering? And if it has VGA, despite being analog, they knew better than to run high-latency filters on those so they're pretty safe for input/display lag.

Easiest way to make a Raspberry Pi run a "information display"?

Idea is to have it hooked up via HDMI to a tv, on boot it should launch some slideshow software that just displays images out of a folder. Ideally the software would refresh the folder on each cycle so that new images can be added and old ones removed remotely, the folder will be shared on a network.

I'm comfy enough in linux but need suggestions on what program to run the slideshow from. If easier I could just have it run something that changes the wallpaper periodically and disable all overlaying taskbars and whatnot.

Try 15 150 15 for EAC and 30 90 60 for EDC, which is what I saw first, as the 30-60-90 triangle is a special triangle.

What is the info I should check before purchasing a power bank for my smartphone to ensure the battery will be safe?
>>
>>63373336
There is no real info to check, USB power is USB power and the phone controls the charging of the battery not the power bank

What happens if i buy the biggest power bank there is and connect it to my Samsung Galaxy Note 7 ;-)

Would an iPhone SE (Global, A1723) work on Verizon?
It has support for LTE bands 2 and 4, which are utilized by Verizon. but not band 13. That's the ONLY band it doesn't support, everything else matches with the Verizon model.
I've seen places online saying it "will not work" but those were often in 2015/2016, but I know I've heard other people successfully use LTE on Verizon successfully on a phone that lacks band 13 by way of using band 4 instead.

Is it cut and dry "will not work" or is it one of those "not officially supported" cases where you can activate your sim on a Verizon certified™ phone, move this sim over and it'll work anyway?

thanks

I see you have an iPhone X.

A BLU R1 HD actually.

The thing is that I've read of owners who had the battery dying on them after just a couple months of use and were advised by manufacturer it had something to do it with charging the phone with a charger different than the one it comes with. I had been using mine for over a year without problems sticking to always use it's original charger but I'll soon be in a schedule that will keep me away from sockets during large part of the day.

I'm looking for an Android app that lets me set a GIF as wallpaper and repeats it only once, every time i turn on the screen.

Then, the last frame of the gif stays as a static wallpaper until i turn the screen off and on again, looping it once more and freezing it again.

Anyone knows something like that?

I upgraded to FF57 and started using about:newtab. about:config has an option called browser.newtabpage.pinned which lists the pinned website with url, title and basedomain. Why does https://iqdb.org/ as the only page not have a basedomain listed in that option?

I don't use C Sharp, but it looks like your sum() method doesn't define "a", it also doesn't take any parameters and it doesn't return anything. And you want to know how to use a class from a separate class; it looks like you are just starting out and you have a lot to learn. Consider reading more tutorials/manuals/documentations

Guys, since last friday my PC seemingly became ungrounded. I noticed that when my mic was making humming noises and it would stop when I touched the metal parts of my case. What could this be? Faulty PSU? It was really an overnight thing.

In the metropolis/simulated annealing algorithm why would you want to have the chance to keep worse states?
I can't really see the point unless you have a large number of states to work with and potentially arrive at a more efficient solution.

Preservative-free eye drops are still good for like 24 hours after you open them, right? The box says to discard immediately after using once but that seems so wasterful, there's enough in the dropper for like 4-5 applications. It's just the lubricant stuff for dry eyes if it makes any different.
