What are some must have addons for Firefox?

Ublock Origin (or similar type of addon that blocks ads) is probably the one kind of addon I can no longer live without with the cesspool of advertising that is out there now. Anytime I use a device that doesn't have it I get grossed out.

because i click on open a new tab about 200 times a day. the distance between the new tab button and the website that i'm visiting is much longer if the tab is on top instead of bottom

it saves me a lot of mouse work basically

oh and to not be a narcissistic prick, I can also recommend the ghostery add-on, it blocks social media bullshit on websites that track your cookies from facebook instagram etc
and even more importantly, it also gets rid of that Disqus cancer which is responsible for like 75% extra loading time for websites (this has been investigated, if you need I can try to find the article again, there were literally like 3-5x more requests for loading a page with Disqus enabled than without)

>>63367851
As long as firefox can't run chrome extensions in a proper fashion, and firefox keeps having such a low userbase, Firefox will never be a good browser for extensions. The blink engine is really good. But if you are prepared to put some effort into it, you might get Firefox to work.

I like the new change, Firefox 57 seems good.
It is in its start phase though, don't expect too much yet. Perhaps give it a few months.

Other alternatives:
If you are default user, Chrome or Chromium is good.
If you are a strong power user, Vivaldi is good.
If you are something in between use Opera.
Yandex and safari might be of interest too.

However, if go full Firefox. I wish you good luck. It will be interesting to see how Firefox will keep developing in the future. Open-source will always have tremendous potential, so I pay my respect to it.
>>
>>63371928
I'm in the same boat.

"Save In..." is limited to saving to directories of your default downloads folder, unless you start setting up symbolic links in there which I don't wanna do.
>>
The old Image Zoom addon I used would prevent left/middle click from doing their normal actions whilst right-click was held.
This is a pain in the ass because now I can't right+middle click an image that is a clickable element, without it triggering that action when all I wanna do is zoom the image to window extents.
>>
How do you get 4chanX to work on violentmonkey?

I fresh installed both but 4chan x didn't work.
>>
Classic Theme Restorer allows me to place tabs on the left and the address bar on the right, on the same line. Until there is a simple way to do this in 57+, I am not interested.
>>
>>63371749
I can't even get to any greasmonkey settings or anything, did that nigger test this shit?

ghostery sends your information to ad agencies.

Chrome isn't even good anymore. Firefox 57 is surprisingly smooth, while Chrome often stutters and flickers when scrolling. Default smooth scrolling sucks, you need an extension. It's incredibly bloated and slow if you have a million tabs open. It also doesn't properly support 144Hz, it "technically" does, you can pass a Blurbusters test and it will confirm 144fps, but it still runs like shit. I believe this is an engine problem, Firefox and forks completely destroy any Chrome/Chromium forks is 144Hz usability. I would honestly rank Edge above Chrome now, but it doesn't support anything over 100Hz which is stupid. Even then it's smoother than Chrome.

Joke's on you. I don't need the EE extension OR a cookie editor to get into Sad Panda. Trying to keep on topic, though, uBlock Origin, HTTPS Everywhere AND Smart HTTPS, since they do different things and I've had one work on a site when the other wouldn't, and Privacy Badger are the bare minimum. uMatrix and Cookie AutoDelete only if you like to fiddle and tinkering (i.e. everyone here). I'm forgetting some more minor ones I use.

Lastly, if this ever gets a WebExtension I'm going to be obligated to install it for the memes: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/fukken-saved/
>>

HTTPS Everywhere has a community-sourced ruleset and only non-breaking HTTPS connections are forced. Ones that might cause issues are available but disabled by default. Smart HTTPS forces a site to load in HTTPS at first visit, and if it doesn't work it will revert to HTTP. I have had this prevent images from loading on some sites, but checking the option titled something to effect of "Upgrade Insecure Content Requests to HTTPS" fixed that. I'm assuming the page was placed loaded just fine but the pictures were from a separate domain and they weren't being requested over HTTPS initially. This probably means something is disabling mixed HTTP/HTTPS content somewhere but it's not consistent. I don't believe there is a whitelist for Smart HTTPS as in "ignore pages from this site" (its whitelist means does something else), but as a last resort you can always disable the extension while you're visiting a particular site giving you trouble if nothing else works. WebExtensions don't need restarts so it's one keyboard shortcut and one mouse click to do that.

There's an extension called HTTP Nowhere. I'm unaware if it has a WebExtension port but it seems like it should be simple enough to cancel all HTTP connections given what the other two can do.

>>63372941
It's probably just preloaded in the background with all the actual browser windows closed. I have literally never used Chrome as a daily driver so if I'm talking out my ass let me know. It was disappointing to see Opera become a Chrome clone but it did Chrome better than itself in my opinion when I used it for a few months. The Opera extension catalog has (had?) one that lets you install from the Chrome Web Store, too. I used Chrome enough to compare their features and that's how I decided. Even after switching back to Firefox I had Opera installed as a backup, so I was really sad when I heard the news that it had been sold to some Chinese consortium, and I uninstalled it to be safe. One of the really neat features was built-in keyboard shortcut rebinding. You could rebind any of them without an extension, and they didn't require modifiers, so absent a vim option you could make do with a poor man's stopgap. I may sound like I'm shilling but really I'm just reminiscing.

what do you guys use?

all it pretty much did was open a separate window when downloading stuff so that i could close my firefox browser and continue to downlaod whatever it was i was downloading. now i have to keep a tab open unless i want to cancel the downlaod. lame.

Does any other adblocker let you block literally anything in an easy way as ADB+ + element hiding helper did? Some sites have truly retarded layouts that can be fixed in literally 3 clicks and that shit was a lifesaver (Fuck you, YT's white line above the player)

Im glad I noticed ADB doing dumb shit 3 days ago which let me discover the switch over to webextensions and made me disable updates. So I just downloaded Quantum, but an add on I've been using forever doesn't work with it, and it's a big part of my use on Firefox.

Anyone have a suitable replacement for tab mix plus? Something that will open new tabs to my home page, and have new tabs start at the very end, not immediately next to the current tab you're on?

For example, if I want to visit another board I don't have in my bookmarks or top sites/highlights, it's easier to create a duplicate tab and just change a letter instead of scrolling all the way up (or down) for a link and lose track of the posts I'm reading

NoScript does a lot of other shit like CSS protection, clickjacker protection etc in the background. I am only using ublock hard mode too for now until NoScript is ported, but having NoScript in the background and uBlock on easy mode is just more convenient because it blocks everything uBlock hard mode can without breaking sites as much.

Also, for some reason youtube ads are now sometimes sneaking through the filter when I have to allow youtube in uBlock for the site to work and thumbnails to display.

>>
>>63380105
Well, the current noscript version was a webextension hybrid and the plan was for users to keep their settings and stuff and the update to happen smoothly before 57 gets released, like how uBlock and uMatrix did it. /pol/tard here (of the once much more common ancap variant, not a daily stormer or shoaer)

I hate mozilla being virtue signaling cucks
I am quite wary still of their future, seeing as they spend shitloads of resources running like headless ducks, like Debian (which I've completely given up long ago for that very reason, as it ended up turning the product into unredeemable absolute shit)
I've long been extremely critical of Firefox abysmal performance

but still, I won't ever use a non FOSS browser (which implies Firefox was still what I used all these years, even if I had ended up despising it)
and I must reckon Firefox has a come a very very long way in about a year, with Electrolysis, GPU acceleration working well in Linux, and now Quantum
most of what I technically harshly criticized Firefox for has been fixed
so even I reckon I'm pretty happy with it
mozilla still is a bunch of retarded cucks, though
>>
>>63380295

I'm not tech expert here but are you ever going to be able to avoid SJW style "cucks" in tech?
