Having some issues my HD 579. They sound really quiet, I don't think it's a fault with the headphones from what I read in previous threads that people are having the same problem, and my pc gives out a lot of static noises when I plug them in. I've read an amp/dac would fix the problem but don't know what make/model would be the best value.
Any recommendations for a uk bro?

Sounds like the gain setting of your amp is too high.
I'm not sure if I would trust the peak value meter in Peace though. Whenever I've tried it out, it always recommends a higher preamp setting than necessary, which could result in clipping.
Also post your EQ graph window.

Looks like a solidly built speaker but no idea how the crossover design is.
Parts express has a pretty neat speaker that just came out for $70
https://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-mk402-4-2-way-bookshelf-speaker-pair--300-455
Well designed crossover, 2 solid drivers, compact package. This would be a much better option than the commonly recommended miccas.

If you're handy with DIY stuff, definitely consider the C-note from parts express. Minimal soldering and no woodworking because the cabinet is premade.

A step up from that would be the affordable accuracy monitor from philharmonic audio
>>
>>63718233
I have not heard nfb stuff before so I can't comment on it. The element is a solid amp, endgame for most that can drive even inefficient planars.
the emotiva basx is great, but it's a speaker amp primarily. I would only consider it if you were buying ridiculously inefficient headphones.
>>
>>63714705
You didn't state your onboard source but most likely you will need an amp. Get something like magni or O2, get an a/b switch, they are piss cheap, and try out dedicated amp vs onboard amp, but for me element made a big difference esp in bass.
>All I listen to is doujin trance and other electro music from the nipland.
While I love my HD600 I think electro music is their weak point, 6XX which is 650 might cut for you tho, but on tracks like this I don't get enough bass even tho the rest is good.

Aight bois, I've tripped over my wires one too many times, I'm looking for some bluetooth headphones.
I went to the store and tried some of them out, unusual skull shape due to an incident as a kid makes the majority of headphones insane uncomfy on the right side, so I tried 'em all out.
The comfy ones were Sennheiser HD 4.50 BTNC. I tried 'em out with my phone and all is good, within my price range as well.
Here's the deal, I need my headphones to be loud, as my hearing is not very good, how loud can I expect em to be if using with say, a laptop? Or was it the max loudness that I got with my android phone?
Years ago I bought a razer headset (i know, i know, shut up) mostly because it was loud as fuck, and I like that.
Should I be concerned? Or will using it with something more than a phone result in higher volume?
Also, first time bluetooth user, if these questions seem dumb just bear with me.
>>
>>63719339
bluetooth will always be loud since the headphones are battery powered
>>
>>63719339
simply trying them doesn't say much about long term comfort, i'd get in-ears based on your condition

>>63719469

>>63719432
What do you mean? I thought it'd be the opposite, since its battery it would be less loud.
>>
>>63719488
the headphones are designed around the battery in mind
>>
>>63719496
So, battery powered means louder, since normal cable-connected ones don't have a battery and draw their power from the connection to the audio source? Am I understanding this correctly?
>>
>>63718076
Is the Element really that good? It looks sexy as fuck but I'm wondering about the performance.
>>
>>63719626
it's enough, unless you're a basshead
>>
>>63719532
not necessarily, it's just that bluetooth headphones from brand name companies are designed around their battery to hit their desired volume requirements

regular headphones can be designed to require little power but the audio source itself is a variable, with bluetooth you're just sending a signal to a bluetooth device and you don't have to worry about being power limited on the source device
>>
>>63719723
Are these headphones worth their money? I checked 'em out on canpicker and it seems like the general consensus is positive.

>>
>>63719997
It doesn't need an amp.
>>
>>63719997
Yes. The only device I have which doesn't drive my HD650 loud enough with no amp is my Nexus 5. Everything else I've tried from tablets, laptops, various integrated sound cards get loud enough. I also have an O2 and I can't notice any significant difference over any other source which gets to the volume I want, other than obviously being able to go way beyond that.

I don't really like them at all to be honest

they're really sibilant, the bass bleeds into the mids, the mids lack presence, there's an overall lack of detail, and the cable connections cut out pretty often

I'm not trying to waste money but watching Tyll's review really has me chomping at the bit for an elear. Design aside, which I am a total fucking sucker for, his description of them as "exceptionally dynamic" is very appealing to me. My music is all over the frequency spectrum very quickly and dynamics sounds like something I totally want in a headphone. The he500 kicks ass but when I listen to my dt880 it's like oh this is dynamic bass I forgot. I want the best of both worlds of a high end planar and dynamic and I guess a high end dynamic like the elear would be closer to that than the lcd2(which prob sounds like dark he500)
Keep in mind the elear is only like 600 bucks on ebay

Depends on the headphones you use. I actually prefer the HP out of my iphone 6s when using my Westone W60 as the Mojo somehow accentuate the 10khz peak on the Westones, which, being sensitve to treble isn't great. With my Shure se846 and HD650 it sounds amazing though. Also if you're listening at home it's fine but i find it tiresome to lug around when out, so i'll probably be selling it and getting a DAP, possibly AK70 as i've heard good things about it.
>>
>>63722622
This is possible. Sadly they are just too inconveienent and inconsiderate. I rent a room in a sober house with 6 other men. I hate when they play their family dollar $25 speakers I imagine they'd hate if I was jaming out to some $300 studio monitors which are presumably loud as fuck.
I think hd800 or another really really good headphone is the way to go. Lets see if the source makes any difference. It's not like I'm going to drive the hd800/elear/atticus/whatever off a $60 dac x6(i could) so I'll buy a new source first and if it's an audible upgrade fuck yeah if not whatever it'll be a better pairing for future upgrades.
Still really want a clear/elear though. It's that design guys, it's so fucking nice.

To compare it with my X2's which I use every day, it has less bass, but can pick up on smaller details, probably because less bass and smaller soundstage. I don't have any sibilance issues with it either, I'm glad I picked them up.

**Budget**: $200-$350

**Source**: Desktop PC via Apple Music or Spotify

**Requirements for Isolation**: Don't really need it, since it's for home use.

**Will you be using these Headphones in Public?**: Nope, home use.

**Preferred Type of Headhpone**: Over ear/full size

**Preferred tonal balance**: Ideally, I'd like everything to be good but with the bass emphasized.

**Past headphones**: Apple EarPods, I tried Sennheiser 598s very briefly for a couple weeks. Liked them except for the lack of bass.

**Preferred Music**: Post-rock, lots of post-rock (GY!BE, Mogwai, EitS, MONO, etc). Also becoming a metalhead too, dipping into post-metal and stuff a lot lately.

**What would you like to improve on from your set-up?**: Well, this will be my first major leap into the realm of high quality audio. I want everything to be better with these headphones and emphasized bass. I also want the high tones to be more tolerable. Sometimes its screeching and unpleasant depending on the song. Post-rock has the tendency to be noisy and high pitched at times. I know I'll need an amplifier/DAC too. Recommendations on that?

Thanks.

>I want everything to be better with these headphones and emphasized bass. I also want the high tones to be more tolerable
HD650 sound fine for you, they have a warm tonality with treble that isn't harsh, though not much sub-bass. Since you don't mainly want to listen to a genre which relies on sub-bass, I'd say they're appropriate for you.

Depending on your current source, you may not need an amp either. If you go with HD650, I suggest you try them out without an amp or external DAC first. If you're not happy get an amp, if you're getting a lot of noise then get an external DAC too, or some amp+DAC combo.

It also depends on how loud you want to listen to music too, of course. Your integrated sound card might get them to reasonable levels for instance, but nothing ear-shattering. Still I don't think it's a bad idea to try them without an amp first, especially if you know you don't like listening at very loud volume. In any case it's not the kind of headphone which most sources will barely get it beyond a whisper or something.

>>
>>63726565
Most people have 5 toes, some people have 6. It's factually correct to say humans are a species with 5 toes. The majority of people who listen to an hd600 or hd650 will benefit from an amp that can properly power them.
>>
>>63726603
Well, if you want to at least have the possibility to listen to HD650 at levels which will quickly damage your ears, you will quite likely need an amp. If you want to listen to HD650 at levels which will not harm your hearing even after very long/indefinite exposure, you may not need an amp at all.
>>
>>63726631
>at levels which will quickly damage your ears

What are you talking about? How is my preference relevant to the capability of an amp to drive HD650 to, say 110dB+, which would be damaging quite quickly? I don't think most mobo integrated sound cards are capable of that. The headphone sensitivity is known, the required voltage to reach whatever listening level is not a matter of preference, it is something which can be calculated. What isn't known is what his source is can do, where speculation comes in.

HD650 needs what, like 2.2VRMS to reach 110dB SPL, that's already beyond standard line level and sound card outputs tend to double as line out as well. The integrated sound cards I've listened to are also much quieter than a 2.1VRMS DAC, so I don't believe your average integrated sound cards will be able to drive HD650 to ridiculous ear-rape levels.

110dB peak spl. I'm tired of having this argument where the person doesn't understand average listening level and peaks
>>
>>63726855
So you're saying you believe the majority of integrated sound cards can drive HD650 to 110dB SPL?
>>
>>63726872
no, they can't. they typically output ~1 vrms
>>
>>63726878
So then what the fuck are you arguing with me? I just said the same shit.
>>
>>63726906
that peak levels are different from average levels. hearing damage is both time and magnitude dependent. it is also frequency dependent. that amps are needed for loud peak levels and not just average volume, and that loud peaks are not necessarily harmful.
>>
>>63726939
I feel like you're trying to have an argument with me, but I have no idea what you're talking about because I never said that shit. I said HD650 will probably not reach those levels on an integrated card, which it will not, average or peak, because the card very likely won't be able to reach the required voltage. If those levels are desired (doesn't matter if average or peak), an amp/a source which can put out higher voltage is required. That's what I said.

>>63726990
no, I just interpreted
>Well, if you want to at least have the possibility to listen to HD650 at levels which will quickly damage your ears, you will quite likely need an amp. If you want to listen to HD650 at levels which will not harm your hearing even after very long/indefinite exposure, you may not need an amp at all.
as "you don't need an amp unless you want to damage your ears". I think it can only interpreted in that way without context, didn't read who you were replying to and that's my mistake

Sure, I see. That's not what I meant.

Most of these are off for review/demo, and the Lyra II and Jupiter won't be coming back. Andromeda, Polaris and Nomad should keep me comfy for a looooooong time. I'll be focusing on fullsize cans moving forward for a bit.

Why has this neurotic jerk-off circle not been banned off the board yet?
>>
>>63727425
Because headphones are technology.

>>63727435
Being technically on topic is not an excuse to be all around terrible.
>>
>>63727022
That anon is known to be very sensitive about amps because he has severe hearing damage and post-purchase rationalization. The HD600 doesn't need an amp.
>>
>>63721900
coincident dynamites also he sells his se amp at discount if you buy speakers and amp together

If it's terrible then don't visit.

The sight of your weeb shit in the catalog alone is enough to annoy me.

It's an anime imageboard. I know of a place just for you: reddit.
