Man the clamping on my ATH-M50 has started giving me headaches recently.

God bless these phones. I've had them for 5(?) years now and they still look brand spankin new, but every time I start wearing them regularly the clamping pain just gets unbearable.

Any suggestions to help with clamping, maybe even specifically with the M50? I thought of putting some foam around the headband and upgrading the earpads but I don't wanna ruin the aesthetic of the phones rigging shit onto it and I don't know what pads might help most.

Anybody own the Status CB-1?

I'm looking for a replacement for the ATH-M40x that died on me. I opened it up but I really don't have the know-how to troubleshoot it much.

I was quite fond of the open-back design and how it fit. Looks really similar on that end. The sound signature was something else I liked but I feel like I missed out on the M50 bass. I don't need beats bass but maybe a little more colored on that end. I wouldn't mind a more fun sounding set of headphones after having such neutral pairs. I still have my Sony MDRV6s but they're way too analytical for the majority of what I listen to.

I'll fill out the template just in case:

>>
Not headphone but speaker but need to ask to make sure.

Logitech Z623 vs Z337. I think the Z623 are because they are THX and higher watt.
>>
>>63729764
Everything up to your fifth meme arrow is true. I don't listen loud, which is part of why I prefer closed cans.
Granted, the LCD-X was really more "present" in every part of the spectrum, the submarine feeling was gone, and the separation was superior. But the amplifier was bottlenecking it hard, and that is just sad for my wallet if I ever pull the trigger on actual hi-fi.
The thing that kinda disappointed me was the soundstage. Not that much larger than the one of closed beyers', and I'm listening to one right now. I expected more of an open headphone, but again maybe thats just my shitty crosstalk-y amp.
I still love my beyers to no end.

I wouldn't pay $10 for this. Add $20 more and buy set of 2.0 edifiers from amazon.
Logitech 2.1 speakers are literally the shittiest speakers you can buy, period. Actually this applies to all logitech speakers. Their """satellites""" sound like complete fucking ass with single driver that can't even produce any half decent sound, and subwoofers fart out loud niggerbass that is in no way close to how actual bass should sound.
Number 1 rule of buying speakers is to not buy logitech and bose speakers.
>>
>>63729802 >>63729969
Seconded. Logitech speakers are terrible. They're toys.
lsr305 are proper near-field monitors. Like night and day.
>>
>>63729970
Logitech's audio equipment is usually terrible. I got a pair of their gayman headphones on clearance and they distort really badly at higher volume or with heavy bass.

That'd been better, as at least you wouldn't have to suffer the sound of their headphones.

>>63729970

>>
>>63726986
5 years and they're still stiff? Amazing.
I've put mine around a tissue box overnight. That made them too loose for my liking but the hard clamping was gone.
Try finding something like that.
>>
>>63730175
Tissue boxes are awesome.
>>
>>63730069
>The R1280T is $120 (which isn't bad) so I'll probably consider those.
You should. Edifier speakers are actually the only PC speakers in this price range that I consider a "proper speakers". They are not exactly 100% flat and monitor like, but compared to creative, logitech, bose and all that shit, there is no comparison.
If you can I would suggest r1600 tiii, slightly better and tilted up, which makes placement easier as you don't need stands or pads. Read up on how to position speakers, long story short triangle with speakers facing you and high frequency driver should be on ear level or tilted up towards ears.
You can consider one of BT options if that's your thing, I never did because it's downgrade for me.
>>
What does playing a 20Hz file while fiddling with volume control sound like for you, /hpg/?
I hear constant cracking, left/right channel imbalance, and driver rattle... don't try this, it will depress you.
>>
>>63730175
I bought cheap chinese pleather replacements for them not too long ago.

The foam/filling on it is quite thick and now that you mentioned this I realize maybe these thick pads stretch the band a bit more and might be causing the clamping. The pleather is hardening as well so it's not as cushy.

Might just need to invest in better pads.
>>
>>63730362
I just get vibrations and clean 20hz. LCD-2. I get huge amounts of 3rd harmonic distortion on my earbuds though.

Okay, /g/oys, the hd6xx's just arrived and im listening to them through the classic magni 3, modi 2 combo, playin' straight outta music bee with brian eno. I recently bought a Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro and I love them and don't want to give up on them, but I've noticed a crackling/rumbling sound on the left driver/speaker at lower frequencies and bass heavy parts of songs. This was only present in the left one.

So I ordered a replacement, on the replacement the same problem is present but this time it happens at an even lower volume and on both drivers/speakers, but the right one crackles/rumbles more.

I drive them with a Sound Blaster Zx, and I've tried directly into the card and plugged into the extension that comes with it. The problem persists no matter what.

Is the case here that I've received 2 faulty headphones, or something else like a hair, which I doubt since I literally just opened them.

Any help you on my problem at all would be nice.

>>
>>63731112
Distortion isn't necessarily because of the speaker, if the source cannot handle the required power (at high volume especially) and clips it will still sound like shit even if the speaker is perfectly fine.
>>
>>63731253
dont get shp9500, they are overrated as fuck heres why
>open back yet 0 soundstage, makes them shitty for gaming

if you're leaning towards open back, try HD 558, great soundstage, comfy af and non-sibilant highs, has pretty much everything that makes a good open back unit

I agree that shp9500 are pretty shitty... don't know why they are shilled hard everywhere. My hd 598 se which is apparently "not bright at all" was better than the shp9500 at hearing footsteps.

But anon says he is poor af to even get a shp9500. What makes you think he can afford a hd 558? Get a Superlux HD 681 with velour pads if you can't afford anything atm.

Most of the terms you just use mean very little to me. All I really think about is not having those around me hear my music, comfortable, and hopefully good quality sound. I use them at work, and pushing the carts around can drown out my earbuds even at max volume.
>>
>>63731358
Then you need something closed. Open aren't exactly build to isolate you from outside noise.
>>
>>63731344

No idea, I haven't heard those headphones, don't know how loud you're listening or what your sound card can drive properly, I'm just saying. So when hunting for headphones I just need to look for 'closed'? Or are there other terms to watch for?

>>63731401
That's more or less a good ballpark for what im looking for. I can go a bit higher, but its a want vs need kind of thing. Right now it would be nice to have some cheap wireless thatll actually stay in my ears at work. I usually just put the cord down my shirt, but with all the bending the cords still get pulled sometimes which isnt exactly good for them. I'd like to get earbuds like pic related

Really depends. Even open can mean not even that loud. the main 3 are open, semi, and closed. Semi and open actually sound better compared to closed. Closed also tends to focus more on bass. Both pretty bad for gaming.

>>63731746
I'd say HD 6XX or HE 4XX. Check them on massdrop. I guess, for my taste 4XX would have better sound out of the box, but it has some build problems judging from the comments, it's a bit of lottery.

6XX is less analytical, more warmth and bass, it's no brainer if that's your thing. I'd probably buy these and O2 or Magni 3 amp and equalize headphones to my taste.
>>
I dropped my headphones terribly today but it seems like thye actually sound better after? Is this possible?

Are the HD600s still a safe bet If I'm also going to be using them for digital piano? I always hear about the sennheiser veil at higher frequencies, not sure if they'd be the best fit for the job. Currently debating the HE400i's but I'm not sure how they hold up either.
Can any anons help me out here?

Should I get something else?

Update.
>6XX is less analytical, more warmth and bass
Should be:
6XX is less analytical, sound more warm/bassy, though 4XX has better bass, because it's planar, but sound less warm/bassy out of the box, because it has (a bit) elevated highs.
>>
>>63732121

>>
>>63732332
>a bit
No senpai, it's got peaky as fuck highs, up to 10dB.
>>
>>63732240
Yes, they're a safe bet.
The so called "veil" is a made up problem (typically fixed by burn-in, that is, getting the brain used to the sound) which never affected the hd600 in the first place.
>>
>>63732612
>muh brain got used to the no highs so the veil doesn't exist.

they have rolled off highs. this is an objective fact. it can be remedied with equalization though. not the bass, that's unfixable because of the high distortion.
>>
>>63732612
If you've listened to anything brighter, you're going to get that veil, senpai. The mid-bass hump and rolled-off highs doesn't help either
>>
>>63732679
>they have rolled off highs
You mean the HD600? They're actually bright. Just very slightly over neutral, but bright nevertheless.
>>
Just got my fiiO e10k. Drivers all installed fine and windows recognizes it however I only getting windows sounds through it and no audio from anything else.
Any ideas how to get it to play all audio as opposed to just windows.
>>
>>63732687
If you've listened to beyer-style treble rape, sure.
With some luck, there's no actual ear damage and a few hours of use can restore your sensitivity to high frequencies.
>>
>>63732706
Right click on the volume icon @ tray, playback devices, find the fiio, right click, set as default, done.
If that's not enough, reboot.

honestly depends on what amps you intend on running.

Klipsch forte III is the only speaker I can think of off the top of my head that'll play nice with fleawatt tube amps. Either that or a cornscala build
>>
>buzzing periodical high frequency sound at sub 50Hz on right earcup, much much less of the same sound on left earcup, across multiple sources
What am I dealing with anons? Am I gonna have to choke a transducer?
>>
>>63732791
What exactly do you want to achieve? I personally have a few hotkeys set up which just change my default audio output, I find that easy to use.
>>
>>63732809
>>63733163
I thought it would default back to my speakers when I turn the fiiO off. I use to just pull off my headphones to get speakers to play since I plugged my headphones in the front panel.
However with the fiiO I gotta plug the usb in the back which is a hassle to unplug.
>>
>>63733196
In my case if I turn off (read: unplug from the wall) my USB DAC it does switch to what was previously selected and switches back if I turn the USB DAC on again. That FiiO looks like it's entirely USB-powered, are you sure you can actually turn it off completely without unplugging it? Maybe it just turns off the amp or something.

Does it still appear as a playback device in the Sound dialog when it's off? Does it still appear in Device Manager?
>>
>>63733047
'nearfield' in the sense i'm using them in my smol ass 10x10 room and sit about 5.5 feet away and have them 5.5 feet apart as well. i currently use ls50 with a 225wpc solid state amp. its more of a 'home theater' setup as i've got my tv in the middle of everything, but i don't watch a lot of movies. i would post my setup but last time i did you guys all sperged out.

>>63733097

Hey guys. I was just wondering if the K712s would be an improvement over the X2s. Also, how would they compare to HD558s?

Side note, is there much of a difference between USB and Aux In with an amp? When switching between them, I didn't really notice a difference.
>>
>>63733548
>K712s would be an improvement over the X2s
Yes
>Also, how would they compare to HD558s
Not at all, because one are entry level balanced headphones and other are mid tier bass canons.
>>
>>63733538
1.Seas A26 kit would work well with tubes.
2.Triangle makes a few high sensitivity bookshelf as well. The Titan bookshelf has an accordian surround woofer and horn loaded tweeter.
3.HSU has a coaxial bookshelf with 94db sensitivity.

That's all I could think of off the top of my head that has a competent design. Any reason you're opposed to klipsch? Heresy and fortes are great for tubes.
>>
>>63733548
>is there much of a difference between USB and Aux In with an amp
Aux as in a stereo line in? USB is digital, which means your "amp" actually contains a DAC too, in which case the conversion takes place there. If it also has an aux line in, then you're already feeding it analog and the integrated DAC won't be doing anything. The difference in sound (besides volume, maybe) would depend on the DACs, though I personally haven't heard much difference between any, as long as none of them suffer from excessive noise or something.

Oh yeah, is my problem with boris not doing it the way it should a problem with a lack of voltage to the speakers, or everything I know and love happening below 100hz? just bought these, some dude recommended me the original 240's but they're not selling in my country anymore, any tips?

used some previous headphones like hd419, j88i, and philips citiscape uptown, mainly for music and gaming
i'm pretty aware the 240's are not a big deal about soundstage and i'm finding them to be amazing, but the audio seems like kinda different somehow, any way i can improve it? drivers or anything that doesn't require a purchase? if it does tell me

So many entry-fi headphones. Why not save some money and buy yourself something decent for a change?
If it has to be akg, at least k600 or higher (just not k712/812, that's trash), the awesome sennheiser hd600 or the cheaper hd579 gem, the decent beyer dt880, the audio technica msr7... plenty of options.

Idol trash here salutes you. Some 75kg at 180cm. My beard is trimmed, so is my hair, with the same hair trimmer (saves lotsa bucks and time otherwise wasted in hair dresser).

no, it's got a lower peak than the hd800S, the auteur has an upper midrange bite. it also comes with pads you can swap to lower the peak and increase the bass. that graph is aligned at the wrong freq

You need accurate headphones to hear your waifus in high fidelity, I recommend the HD600.
