Quad channel memory and I wasn't going to bother with 4GB DIMMs in 2016 (when I was building it)

Thankfully I paid under $200 for 32GB of 3200MHz DDR4. Which today would run me around $400.

if you go AMD, you'll eventually regret it
AMD isn't sucks anymore
upgraded from that runnig at 4.2Ghz to a ryzen 1700x running at 3.8Ghz its quite a nice upgrade, can just let your pc do its botnet things while you do whatever the fuck you feel like without it ever maxing out
From what I hear Ryzen/Zen is pretty good and those sockets will at least last till 2020.

I have the same CPU and so far I see no reasons why I should upgrade. It still handles everything I throw at it well. What are you doing that warrants you needing an upgrade?

General question: what do you guys do with the hardware when you upgrade? Seems like people here upgrade frequently

fuck benchmarks, buy a new gpu and if you feel the bottlenecking, then invest in new rig.
I haven't managed to bottleneck my 6700k @ 4.6 yet with a GTX1080 (also OC'd). GPU is still my overall performance limiter. Might have to go to 32gb of RAM from 16 soon though if the trend keeps up.
Install latest bios? My 32gb went from sub 2800 to advertised/XMP 3200 14, just had to adjust to the proper voltage.

Haven't OC'd yet. Too much a pain
>Too much a pain.

Nigga what? It took me like 10 minutes to set my 6700k to 4.6 in the BIOS, and then I just left it to stress test for 30 min while I was AFK. haven't touched it since.

Just go find a guide for your CPU on overclock.net shit for brains.

Cmon anon. And is your 6700k de-lidded? What kind of loop you have? When I was still liquid cooling it was 2 GTX 670s with LN2 modded BIOS at a whopping 1400mhz and an FX-9370 @ 5.4ghz. had it all on 2 alphacool UT60 radiators. A 360mm and 240mm.

>Tfw Ryzen runs so cool it's not even worth putting underwater.
Maybe when Ryzen 2 is out and the clock speeds can surpass 4.5ghz the heat will be enough to warrant a water loop.
If Im going to do it I dont want to be as lazy as you. Needs to hit it's max and make sure it's completely stable

That photo is a little dated. The top monitor is still the same (25" ultrawide), the bottom monitor in that photo though was an old 22" LG instead of the new 27". I also have a nice new chair.

Still, that's as much monitor as I want honestly. It gives me a full 2560x2520 usable resolution, and the top monitor is pretty much a dedicated voip/browser/stats/music panel. The desk isn't really as large as it looks, an extra beer can or bong or some mail sitting around takes up most of the rest of the space that isn't already used.

6700k isn't delidded. Temps would probably be better if it was, and definitely more stable because it spikes like crazy. Still, it generally runs around 35-40, as high as 45c under 100% load for extended times. GPU rarely goes over 40 if at all.

The loop is 1x280+1x240mm radiator, factory block on the GPU, EK on the CPU. Pic related for most of the components, but there's some stuff missing. I have it crammed full of sensors. Temp, flow, res level, etc, and it's all running into the Aquaero. Slick setup, I love it.
Meanwhile I'm still getting an extra 600mhz over factory with my "laziness" while you're running stock.

>It's too hard so I'll just do nothing at all.

Great position you have there.
Which isnt worth the effort

made it last year.
>Aquero 6 pro

I just googled that and it looks fucking awesome. Motherfucker. None if this cool shit existed when I started liquid cooling. I had to retro fit an aquarium pump to accommodate 3/8" straight Barbs. I was using Tygon tuning and with drive hose clamps from home Depot. I considered myself lucky to find decent all copper blocks.

I may just build a loop now for the fuck of it. Since my CPU runs so cool, maybe I can go passive. It even better, get a mono-block for my board and CPU together. I want that aquero 6 though. The only controller I had was some over kill 4x100w channels controller when fans and pumps were all still 3 pin and 4 pin PWM was considered a luxury.

The Aquaero 6 Pro is absolutely rad. Highly recommend. It powers and controls all 7 of my PWM fans, my pump, and all of my sensors run directly into it. It's expandable to multiple pumps, can be used as an LED controller, and offers remote access. The software it comes with is top-notch too, once you figure it out. I have a nice fan curve program that scales my fan speed based on the coolant temperature, which paired with the PWM fans gives me incredibly smooth and precise airflow scaling. I've got alarm levels programmed to alert if anything goes outside of nominal boundaries, and some to automatically shut the system off if something gets too far out of whack.

Plus, it has the functionality for creating full custom stat readout panels that overlay on your desktop a-la rainmeter. Here's a quick cap of the preset I built. It's extremely configurable, way beyond what's really visible here.

Guys that got into it back when you did are what gave water cooling the reputation it has now, being a huge pain in the ass to set up.

I went way above and beyond what most people would do, or would ever need, and it was still pretty easy. The new fittings for soft tubing make doing the plumbing as close to fool-proof as anything will ever be.
