Please make me more effective at stalking my contacts' behavior on skype. Anything from knowing when they last logged in, for how long they were logged in, if they viewed my messages and when, whether they started typing and for how long they were typing... I can spot these things (except for if they ever viewed my messages) if I am online with the client open to see it. Can I not record it beyond that? My laptop throttles to the point of shutting down by not much demanding shit (just having Photoshop plus other stuff opened - games send it to hell in short time too). How much of a bad idea is it to disable throttling so that this doesn't happen any more?

I mean what other solution do I have. It's completely fucked in other regards so I'm not invested on buying thermal paste (which they don't even sell were I live), and the fan pad I bought can't help any more than it's doing now.

It only improves quality if your actual source material is 24 bit 96 kHz. If your source material is 16 bit 48 kHz Dolby Atmos stuff, Atmos's setting of 16 bit 48 kHz is the best quality you can get, and setting it to anything else will resample it and reduce quality a tiny bit.

I need to sell a couple second hand consumer electronics items in the UK and I'm not sure how.

I bought new parts for a new PC, and want to sell the old one. Either selling just mobo+cpu+ram+cooler combo and reusing the rest myself, or the whole thing.

Also have a high end laptop (4k gsync screen, gtx 1070, 32gb ram, i7 6820hk...) that I bought in the US for cheap and want to resell here since I don't really need it, I just tried it to see how it worked before bringing it back to Europe.

In the country I used to live second hand market was big and easy, we has craigslist-like websites with components sections full of stuff, so I bought and sold a lot of things, here in London I would have expected the same or even easier stuff, but nope.

Basically where can I sell this stuff? a desktop or components combo (300~500£) and a gaymur laptop (~1500£)??

I've thought of ebay but I never sold anything there and I'm afraid that their cut might be too high, also afraid of not getting nets high enough maybe.

Any tips? (Anyone interested in an EVGA SC17? kek)

Is it a dock or just a usb/sata connector? If it's a dock it should just work. Only thing it might be is a power issue. Unplug the header. Inspect. Are any of the pins bent or missing other than the 1 key pin that's supposed to be missing in the corner? (Unbend or conclude it's fucked.) Are any of the wires going into the connector loose or have part of the metal hole poking out the back? (Push it back in.) Inspect the other end where it goes to the jack, is there any damage there? (Repair or conclude it's fucked.)

If you conclude it's fucked, can you RMA it? If so, do. If not, rig some DIY thing. The simplest is to plug a headphone splitter into the back of the case, your speakers into that, along with a headphone extension wire going around to the front, to give you a place to plug in headphones. Just turn off the speakers and adjust the volume before using headphones. Or, get speakers that have a headphone jack built in.
>>
>>64112349
Luckily I have speakers with a headphone jack built in. I don't feel like having to transfer all my internals to a new case though. I guess I might have to RMA it.
>>
>>64110531
First, see just how short you are of what the card should be getting. Download Unigine Benchmark and run it with no other demanding things open. Search GTX 1070 in the leaderboard and see what the scores look like compared to yours. Keep in mind, the top scores will be extreme overclockers.

I immediately notice that the very top score is leagues above the next guy down -- most likely liquid nitrogen or phase change cooling and a resistor shunt to get way overspec clocks and power consumption.

I also notice there are some 2nd, 3rd and 4th gen i7s (and even an i5 2500K, obviously overclocked, but still...) on the first page. So DDR3 is definitely capable of performing well enough.

If your motherboard supports XMP RAM profiles, get some fast, low CL DDR3 and just use that. DDR4 is way overpriced lately, and you'd be looking at a new mobo and new CPU to upgrade to it. Almost certainly not worth the cost.

Also http://thebottlenecker.com thinks your CPU won't be much of a bottleneck if any, so upgrading won't bring much benefit.

If you do want to upgrade the CPU though, see if you can get a used 4790K for relatively cheap. It'll go in the board you already have and use the same RAM, but be 400 MHz faster out of the box, and be overclockable.

>*whips out c-ck*

>>64112521
Where's the problem then? Plug the speakers into the back of the mobo, which you said works. Plug the headphones into the speaker. Ignore the busted jack on the front panel.
>>
>>64112712
I guess so.
It just kinda sucks that the case is defective
>>
>>64112622
Depends on the program. WTF are you uninstalling 134 GB of?

>>64112640
You can try installing a black and white emoji font like the one in Win10. Dunno if it will work. Even in Win10 some emoji are missing, or look completely crap and unrecognizable without huge font size. Or paste it into a browser address bar -- both Firefox and Chrome have good emoji support and show them in color, and if you search the emoji it'll find pages saying what it's supposed to be.

>>64112737
Did you narrow it down to the case and not the board? I do think that's more likely, but still.
>>
>>64112622

I have a program where different threads "own" different arrays, meaning that they lock the access to the matrix, do their thing, then drop the lock. Is there a way to prevent w10 from allowing apps to prevent shutdown/restart of the PC? Half the time I go to do it when I'm leaving, it will let some app prevent me from shutting down, so I come home to a PC that's still on, but I don't want to have to wait around to see if it prompts me to "shutdown anyway" or successfully powers off.
>>
>>64113499
Yes, they do. The vast majority of the security battle takes place in the actual software you run, particularly the OS and internet facing programs. You just don't notice because so much effort has gone into constantly developing those that the raging pile of shit that is the internet/most software generally doesn't seep through unless you do stupid shit. >>
>>64114847
Because floating point numbers have limited precision, and some calculators don't handle this correctly. The floating point value at that precision is slightly less than the real value, because the end gets truncated off. This means that when you multiply it by itself, you end up with something slightly less than the correct value.

I literally played the game start to finish, and it objectively has no redeeming qualities whatsoever, yet reddit seems to like it like every other mediocre "psychological" or every other slightly different from usual game.
So, a reddit tier game it is.

It's a pretty neat game, and a lot of people on 4chan like it as well. Not liking something simply because reddit likes it is pretty stupid. I like chocolate, but I wouldn't stop liking it just because reddit likes it too.

>I like chocolate, but I wouldn't stop liking it just because reddit likes it too.
Bad analogy. I didn't stop liking the game after I saw reddit like it, I played the game without doing any research or reading reviews and simply got underwhelmed in the first place.
You can like it, I don't have a problem with it but if you praise it from being anything better than FOTM and use phrases like "masterpiece", "how can anyone not like this game", then you're a retarded redditor that needs to leave this site.

>>
>>64115886
I know little about them, but I think it was one that is linux-exclusive but is standard for torrent sites because it's standard for seedboxes, that torrent clint being rtorrent (IIRC, maybe it was a different one).

For Windows I use qbittorrent but for several weeks now the colors have been black and blue, from a design overhaul. The tray icon is also not aliased properly. It is truly horrible, they even patched it after this design dropped to bring back double clicking a torrent to open the destination folder, not a parent folder above, so the design not reverting at this means it's here to stay. Don't touch qbittorrent with a 10-foot pole unless you like literal Sonic donut steel colors from your client. A Windows torrent client I've seen recommended was deluge, however I have no experience with it, nor do I know of other options, etc. Must be a convenient infograph giving some context somewhere.

Thanks for the recs. I currently use uBlock Origin only, but I was looking for an adblocker that is off by default, but can be turned on for a website at a single click. Idk if Adblock Plus does that but yeah I'll try it.

I know uBlock Origin has a way to do what I was hoping it could above, but it requires submenu and clicking a specific box, I was confused and couldn't be arsed, so I just indiscriminately blocked everything with it...
>>

>>64117357
I mean I was using uBlock Origin with default settings, so it was supposedly blocking all ads, if you misinterpreted by "so I just indiscriminately blocked everything with it" remark. But if you mean like, why do I want ads off by default it's just that some websites ask you to disable them, or don't even ask at all, but display a message where the ad would be and says you could have the space if you bought their premium service. Makes me feel pretty bad. And many more sites I only visit once to extract something from then will never visit again in my lifetime. I didn't think ads could be that bad, so I thought I'd only blacklist ads on sight I find egregious.
>>

>>
>>64117422
Add filter exceptions for the sites you want to support. It's not just about ads, it's about the potential code that runs on pop-unders. Preventing the scripts from running will allow you to load web pages faster and more securely.
>>
>>64117434
https://github.com/hydrusnetwork/hydrus

I don't use it myself yet but hydrus is an offline booru of your own saved images. It is its own image viewer and video player, I think.

There are really scary warnings (or at least a singular one I saw so far) in the documentation about hosting your own server to broadcast your personal booru basically, but I don't know how to do that or if you can conceivably do it accidentally. But yeah Hydrus lets you tag everything as if it were a booru. It discards filenames, though, so maybe use it alongside regular folders.

>>64117469
Cheers, and thanks for the insight. I will definitely just try to add exceptions to sites I want to support, then, but block by default. But new window ads which open two tabs still happen on uBlock Origin on default settings, so I'm hoping NoScript puts an end to that.

Every time I temporarily change a setting on my router, it gets bricked and I have to completely reset it manually. Like if I want to stop a game system from hogging the bandwidth for an update or some shit, I'll disallow its mac address from connecting to the router. Which works completely fine. The problem is that when I'm done and want to allow it to connect again, the router just completely stops working. Is this some kind of security feature to stop a hacker from reversing your settings? Is there anyway for me to disable this? It's just a basic piece of shit router/modem combo that came from the ISP, looks like pic related.

Should be able to hard reset it to default settings and then configure it again. If the problems persist even after a firmware update then it's presumably normal. Only place I could think of.
How do you follow twitter conversations?
I don't comprehend this site but there's people who force themselves to use it that are kind of important.
I'm in a situation where a reply to 3 users is made, I've been linked to this specific tweet but I'm not given any option to view what it's replying to.
It has replies to it that appear as if this was the initial post in the thread. Yet the tweet itself proclaims it's replies to some users via the interface (see pic). Clicking the links following "Replying to" doesn't get you to tweets it gets you to users.
I know this is barely tech but I really don't have any other place to ask. There MUST be something I'm missing here.

i don't think modern browsers have a proper offline mode anymore
plus, if you've viewed the page since, the cache will have been partially overwritten
plus plus, websites have so much dynamic content these days that i'm not sure how useful an offline mode would be anyway

My Samsung A5 doesn't alert me of received emails. This is a problem because I need to receive my emails in timely manner. This manifests as a bombardment of messages sometimes when I randombly check the time from the phone. I think the phone is cutting the network when it's been on standby long enough.

Here are the options I've tried

When i install it like this, i'm prompted luks passphrase twice unless i drop into shell during installation and add GRUB_ENABLE_CRYPTODISK=y to /etc/default/grub and then it works properly.
However, when i do the same steps and choose to install Gnome3, i'm still prompted passphrase twice. What am i doing wrong?

Convenience. Windows 10 is the expected OS these days, although most shit still works on 7, excluding microsoft made games. MS does their best to make 7 a pain wherever they can. You have to manually install some updates to get Windows update working, and do a hack to keep them working since MS blocks them on newer processors. And you have to patch your drivers to get it to install in the first place, and not all hardware has drivers for 7, especially in laptops. But once you get past the basics it works well enough, and you don't have to worry about the rollercoaster of updates, ads and megatelemetry that is 10.

If it's a a faulty drive you should be able to test that, either by running the diagnostic utility that came with your laptop, or better yet running a S.M.A.R.T. utility from a bootable copy of linux. Also it's 2017, if you spend a lot of time on that pc, bite the bullet and get an SSD.

Can someone explain to me what's the catch. I have to choose between the two virtual servers:

First Server:
16G ram
1 TB bandwidth
256 SSD
30$

Second Server:
32G ram
500 SSD
Unlimited traffic
25 $

What's the catch? Server #2 is better, and cheeper, how is it possible that for almost the same price tag?
>>

I wouldn't glorify anything that's ever happened on /g/ with the word "uprising". But if something is earning you next to nothing it might not be worth pissing off your userbase over. Or it may just have been a trial run to see how pissed people would get, or how long it would take ublock/4chanx to adapt.

Hi /g/, I have a question that doesn't deserve its own thread IMO but fits best here.
I had to create a Facebook account for work, it's empty and I plan to delete it afterwards, but I will absolutely need to access it from my phone from time to time.
If I do so, will I see the profiles of people who have my number in my friend suggestions , and , more crucially, will they see me in their friend suggestions ?
I don't wish this account to be connected to anything outside of work.
I can't use a pseudonym

I've seen people say that FB can do that, but since I'm technologically retarded and research gives me conflicting results, I hope that this savier board can help.

Been using a 32" 1080p TV screen as a pc monitor for 5 years now and want something new. Are 144hz monitors any good or is the refresh rate just a meme? Or what would be better in general 27" 4k monitor or 27" 1080p 144hz?
>>
>>64121695
Not so much a meme, it's just most people don't notice if their mouse movement is a little smoother, and outside of gaming there's not much content over 60hz. Also even going up to 60 is weird on movies. It doesn't scale perfectly for FHD content, but most people find 27inch at 1440p to be pretty solid, without being as hard to drive as 4k.

Is it better to not bid on an ebay auction until the last moment while keeping tabs on it manually, to make its activity seem lower, lowering the guard of potential buyers before sneaking in a bid in the last 5-10 minutes hoping they didn't expect that to happen on the near-dead listing?
Or bid on it and watch it to inflate its activity, and possibly scare others (who aren't prepared to fight a bidding war) away?

Literally any minimal Linux install. I recommend Void, or perhaps a binary Gentoo-based distro (say CloverOS for example), but literally any distro with XFCE or lighter should work just fine. You could install Ubuntu with XFCE if you wanted.
If XFCE turns out to be too heavy, LXDE might help, or find a tiling window manager to your liking

Note that while I haven't compared them myself, I've heard people saying that in this day and age the difference between lxde and xfce is minimal. Xfce is noticeably more full-featured, though.

Is this what you are looking for?
these things have been obsolete for a long time.
Every case would be too large to have in a pocket anyway. Why not just get a pencil case? It seems cheaper and more compact and with more options depending on what you need.
The biggest flaw in this picture is that thumb drives are not that big anymore and it mostly only applies to cords.

Can someone direct me to a list of computer models with Ryzen mobile CPUs? Preferably one that continues to update with new releases.
My search wording must be weak because I keep getting articles about the swift 3 and x360 but nothing else.

On the same topic; are there any pen input mobiles with Ryzen and thunderbolt 3 out or announced?
>>
>>64123354
>stock CPUs and GPUs
What
The overclocking depends on three things mainly:
>power supply
Higher clocks obviously draw more power; usually not an issue in desktops since PSUs are usually overkill
>thermals
Probably the main limiting factor; huge issue in laptops since these often have thermal issues on stock during extreme loads, never mind OC. On a desktop if you have a shit cooler just get a better one
>everything must be unlocked and support OC
There are locked intel CPUs which don't allow OCing at all. No idea about AMD. Your BIOS/mobo might also have either no support, or really poor support.

AMD had something to offer back then. There was Athlon and Opteron, which were "ok" alternatives to C2 Duo. When Bulldozer came out a few years later, the performance gap widened and it got progressively wider as the years passed. So AMD had very little to offer in the PC market, server market, and the mobile market which was exploding back then. Only just recently is AMD offering something compelling to all of those markets.
>>
>>64124205
Assuming the other two constraints are satisfied, watch your temps and try
You can also undervolt. This improves temperatures, but reduces stability. Typically people overvolt for overclocking to improve stability at higher clocks, but in your case if temperature is the limiting factor an undervolt might actually help.

I can't say more without better info. Also a decent cooler can cost like $30 so I'm not sure what's the point
