The vulnerability doesn't effect AMD.
The patch that the Intel devs put in the kernel targets AMD64 architecture which includes AMD (sabotage?)
If can be disabled via kernel parameter in GRUB so you don't have to suffer till intel tightens up the patch to only include intel CPUs

Nobody knows EXACTLY which processors are affected. It's known that at least Westmere is, which means that Nehalem probably is too.
There's *speculation* that the flaw may be intrinsic to the actual speculative execution methods Intel designed in the Pentium Pro. Which means it goes back to the Pentium Pro. There's also speculation that it may be intrinsic to Intel's virtual memory handling in general, which would date it back to the 80386 - but that's unlikely.

>>

>Nor is it intel, what are you smoking
The internal RISCiness of Intel CPUs is vastly exaggerated, especially since they added µop fusion. The vast majority of instructions (especially common ones) map one-to-one to internal instructions. It's just that the internal format is more regular and uses fixed-width encoding.

Microarchitecturally, Nehalem is very similar to the Core 2 chips, so it's extremely likely that they too are affected, and I'd be surprised if the load units have changed much since then P6 days.
>>
>>64122545
Has anyone tested a P4? They're architecturally different enough that they could possibly be unaffected, and I'm sure someone somewhere still sits on one.

Every CPU intel have made after the pentium 2 have a hardware level security flaw. The only fix is to add a software level check to the OS that will decrease performance of some applications by up to 30% or maybe more. And if the specifics of the vulnerability are teased out before patches are deployed, literally over half of all computers could be hacked with malicious javascript. Best case scenario, the world has lost 10-20% of its total computing power. Worst case, the internet is fucked and we get an economic depression. Thank you Intel

Why would i even want to white list everything? I've been with noscript for years and i have a handful of trusted sites, but that's all.
I can certainly see how bad it is for normies but for someone like me who is not storing any credit info on his PC and doesn't have any important accounts anywhere a simple read-only exploit that can be avoided by not being a dumbfuck won't do anything.

Have you not been keeping up with the news on this? The security flaw is an architectural problem with Intel processors. Since Intel hasn't dramatically changed their arch since Pentium 3 days, its why the problem dates back so far.

Meanwhile Ryzen is completely different and doesn't suffer this flaw. No flaw, no issue, no patch. No patch, no performance hit. So far as we know.

Who else here thinks that whoever found this stumbled upon the secret backdoor that the FBI/CIA/NSA have been using? I personally think the embargo is so the 3 letter agencies can try to remove themselves from this whole thing as much as possible.
>>
Breaking news! VIA aquires Intel!
>>
>>64126728
the problem has to do with speculative references in Intel’s processors, which AMD CPUs don’t have. Speculative execution is basically a form of pre-emption which tries to predict what code is going to be run, and then fetch it and execute it before the actual order comes through and keeping pipelines ready

AMD will NEVER be affected by this.

MS will be enabling it by default in a rollup, it's already out for linux and in true Jewtel scheming they tried to force it to run on AMD too despite it not affecting them at all.
Fortunately it's already been redacted, but give it a rest you worthless shits.
We just have to hope MS doesn't fuck up and turn it on for AMD like a bunch of idiots.
